Fry pan to fire ?: "New" Inspector-General Of Police is Mohammed Abubakar once indicted by Jos Panel for Religious fanaticism in Plateau

As we applaud the right decision to sack or get rid of the hopelessly incompetent Ringim, we should also impress it on Mr President to set ambitious and specific targets that will turn around the fortunes of the Nigeria Police for the incoming IG.

CONTROVERSY REPORTS SAY :

Jos crisis panel recommends Police chief Abubakar for retirement

The Justice Niki Tobi panel on the Jos 2001 crisis has recommended the retirement of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, Muhammed Abubakar.

Abubakar was Plateau State Commissioner of Police during the ciris.

The panel was constituted by former Governor Joshua Dariye to look into the September 7, 2001 crisis. Since it concluded its sitting, its report was not made public until yesterday.

In a White Paper released in Jos, the state capital yesterday, the panel suggested that Abubakar should be dismissed if he refuses to retire.

The panel said: "Religious fanatics should not be posted to head state police commands. The commission recommends that for his ignoble role during the September 2001 crisis which resulted in the loss of lives, the former Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Alhaji M.D. Abubakar, be advised to retire from the Nigeria Police Force and in the event of his refusal to do so, he should be dismissed from the service."

It recommended that the Hausa/Fulani should be encouraged to discuss with other communities and "accept the ownership of Jos by the Ajizere, Anaguta and Berom".

"Anything short of that will not make for peace", the panel added.

It noted: "The non-implementation by government of the report of previous commissions of enquiries and in particular the report of the commission of enquiry into the riots of April 12, 1994 in Jos metropolis (the main features of which are very similar to the September 2001 civil disturbances) is a sure recipe for a repeat performance of such disturbances".

The government also released a White Paper on the Justice Aribiton Fibersima panel on the Jos 1994 crisis. The panel investigated the April 1994 Jos crisis.

Its report said: "There was strong and convincing evidence before the commission that: on April 11, 1994, just a day before the fateful day, Alhaji Yaya Aga Abubakar, the President of Jasawa Development Association, in the company of Alhaji Aminu Mato’s younger brother, Sanusi Mato, held a meeting at Masallaci Juma at Jos with the Jasawa community during which they resolved to carry out a demonstration the following day.

"So, Yaya Abubakar and Sanusi Mato were directly connected with riots. They were the leaders of the insurrection that brought disaster and shame to Jos metropolis, to Plateau State and to Nigeria, that brought death and destruction of lives and properties".

"A recurrent friction for many years between the Berom, Anaguta and Afizere on the one hand and the Hausa/Fulani tribe on the other hand is the remote cause of the riots. Each part of lays claim to Jos."

The report urged the government "to spread its intelligence gathering network far and wide to cover all individuals and organisations (such as religious, cultural, and social organisations) that could be potentially dangerous to peace and order."

Mohammed Abubakar, an Assistant Inspector General of police, in charge of Zone 12, Bauchi who allegedly masterminded the killings of Christians in Jos may replace out-going Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, Pointblanknews.com has learnt.

Abubakar is one of the many AIG’s who is being considered for the top cop job as Ringim’s removal draws near.

A Justice Niki Tobi panel constituted in September 2001 by former Governor Joshua Dariye on the Jos crisis had recommended the retirement MD Abubakar from the Police force

In a White Paper released in Jos, the panel suggested that Abubakar should be dismissed if he refuses to retire.

Abubakar from Zamfara State who was indicted twice between 2004 and 2006 by a Jos crises Panel, is alleged to have sponsored some Islamist Militant Group when he was Commissioner of Police in Bauchi and Plateau States, according to Pointblanknews.com sources.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that already, the presidency has commenced search for Ringim replacement and has interviewed few top police officers, which includes MD Abubakar.

More AIG’s have also been lined up for interview in the coming days.

Sources hinted that the Presidency is seriously considering an immediate replacement for Ringim and all other security chiefs who have been found to have covertly supported the activities of Boko Haram in the country.

Meanwhile, following the precarious security situation in the country and the last week massacre in Kano by Boko Haram, top management team of the Nigeria Police Force headed by Hafiz Ringim had a closed-door meeting for six hours in Abuja.

The agenda of the meeting, which started at about 10:am and ended at about 4:30pm, was not disclosed as at Press time.

All Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs) and the Force Secretary were in attendance at the meeting, which took place at the IGP’s conference room of the Louis Edet House of the Police Headquarters in Abuja.

It was also learnt that President Goodluck Jonathan had mandated all the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the last week Kano explosions without delay.

Deputy Force Public Relations Officer (DFPRO) of the Police Oluyemi Ajayi while justifying the reasons for the closed-door meeting said it’s a routine management meeting in the Police.

He said the meeting was aimed at assessing the past performance of the Force and planning for future operational strategies.

Dat is not the solution....

NIGERIA POLICE, MY FOOT. THEY ARE ALL CRIMINALS AND EXTORTIONISTS. MOVE THOSE OF THE BRATS ON THE ROADS IN THE SOUTH EAST TO THE SELF IMPOSED BOKO HARAM AREAS IN THE NORTH. BOKO HARAM NEEDS TO BOMB OUT THOSE IDIOTS.

Why not give the guy a chance to prove himself...I remember when he was CP Lagos, the ranks and files sat up and were on their toes.
