Our purpose for remaining on earth today is to win souls unto the Lord and mature in Christ. We’re not here just to accumulate wealth and riches that will perish with this world, these are not of any eternal value. When you study the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus, you’ll observe that reaching people was the focus of His ministry. An example was when He took time to preach to the woman at the well, even though He was very tired and hungry (John 4:5-26).
When the disciples saw the way His face lit up as He spoke to the woman, they were convinced He had eaten something. When they asked Him about it, His response was, “…My meat (food) is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” (John 4:34); put differently, “My nourishment is to win souls.”
Just like Jesus, I love to win souls; I love to tell people about His love for mankind. This is the reason we’re reaching people through every available means with this gospel.
The Lord Jesus said, “… I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth” (Luke 15:10), and He used the parable of the prodigal son to elucidate on this statement. This parable is of utmost importance. Consider the father’s response to his son’s return and the ensuing homecoming celebration.
You see, every time you win a soul to the Lord, you’re creating much celebration in heaven. Just as the Lord Jesus said, there’s much rejoicing in heaven when a soul converts to the Lord. The angels celebrate so much over one sinner that repents because that’s the purpose for the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Bible says the Lord is unwilling that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9), and for this reason He patiently waits for us to win them. Make soul winning your utmost priority today; let your mind be preoccupied with it. Come up with effective strategies to win more and more people to the Lord. Let’s make it an endless celebration for the angels and the hosts of heaven.
