THE SMART CHOICE

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat (Genesis 3:6)."

God created man in His image and in His likeness, yet, man is vulnerable to sin; why? There’s one major characteristic in Adam and Eve and in all mankind that causes this to be—CHOICE.

Man is a creature of choice; he’s a free moral agent. You have the choice to live right or live wrong. God never imposes Himself on anyone. He’s a just God. He gives you the choice to decide what you want. Any father who imposes himself on his children and insists they love him will never know true love from those children. So every human being has the ability to choose, and God Himself placed this ability in us.

Eve fell for the serpent’s temptation because she chose to. God had instructed Adam not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and he had in turn passed that instruction to Eve. But God left the tree there, giving them the right to exercise their choice. So when the devil came tempting Eve, it was her choice to either believe his lies and open the door for sin or to believe the truth of God’s Word. But she allowed herself to be deceived by the devil and she ate the fruit.

Adam, on the other hand, was not deceived at all (1 Timothy 2:14). When Eve gave the fruit to him, he could have put his foot down and refused to take it, but Adam wilfully chose to disobey God and fall for the temptation. Sadly, this still happens in the lives of folks today. They willingly choose to disobey God’s Word. They choose to believe a lie and are led astray. This is why you must be very careful in your life and choose wisely to serve the living God.

Go For Wisdom
"Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it (Proverbs 8:10-11). "

The principal thing you need for success in life is divine wisdom. David knew this, and he admonished his son Solomon on the importance of pricing wisdom over riches. He said “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7). He had known from his walk with God that wisdom was the key thing in life, and he passed that on to his son Solomon.  It was no surprise therefore that when God asked Solomon what he wanted Him to do for him (1 Kings 3:5), Solomon said, “Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad” (1 Kings 3:9).

In other words, he asked for wisdom. The Lord’s response to Solomon’s request was remarkable. He said,

“Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart... And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.”

For choosing wisdom, rather than riches Solomon became the wealthiest man that lived until Jesus. Why? Because wisdom will deliver riches to you! This is why you must let your heart go after the wisdom of God. Wisdom comes from the Word of God; so to go for wisdom is to go for the Word. The more of God’s Word that’s in your spirit, the greater the level of wisdom you’ll function in. The Bible says wisdom is better than gold and choice silver (you might as well add Euros, Pounds sterling and Dollars); thus the smart choice is to go for the Word of God.

As you imbibe God’s Word into you, not only will you find yourself dealing wisely in the affairs of life but wealth and riches beyond your comprehension will be delivered into your hands! You wouldn’t have to ask or pray for them. Don’t pursue money, fame or material possessions. Go for wisdom!
