Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State under the New Lagos Movement (NLM) on Monday stormed the Alausa, Lagos office of Mr. Babatunde Fashola, the state governor and the state House of Assembly in protest against what they described as the “reckless powers of the party's leadership” in the state.
Brandishing placards with different inscriptions while singing protest songs referring to Bola Tinubu, a national leader of APC and former Governor of the state, the protesters demanded internal democracy from the party. They warned against any plan by the party leadership to impose any aspirant on the party and the state’s people.
Huhuonline.com can report that other groups within the party and with similar agitations as the NLM had sprung up recently. They had complained that the party was fast becoming autocratic due to lack of internal democracy.
Niyi Akinsiju, leader of the protesting group explained that imposition of candidates can no longer be tolerated by members of the party.
"Enough is enough," he said.
Some of the protesters continued the demonstration at the governor’s office, while others marched on to the state House of Assembly where the Deputy Speaker of the House commended them for being peaceful.
He also promised that the House would look into the issue.
