A coalition of Edo women in the diaspora, led by Dr. Rosaline Okosun, President and Founder of the Association Against Women Export, ASWE, weekend, described as disturbing and unacceptable, the alleged impregnation of a 15-year-old girl by a member of the Edo State House of Assembly.

It will be recalled that the lawmaker (names withheld),representing one of the constituencies in Edo North, allegedly impregnated his 15-year-old sister-in-law and had pressured the victim to abort the about four months pregnancy. Vanguard was reliably informed that the victim had remained defiant and had vowed to keep the child since she had earlier aborted two pregnancies for the same lawmaker.
However, in the joint statement, Mrs Okosun and Osa-Oviawe, expressed concern over the welfare of the girl, whom they described as a victim of a sexual predator and called on the relevant authorities to ensure that the said lawmaker was brought to justice.
According to the statement, "it is morally, culturally and ethically reprehensible for a grown man to take advantage of a little girl like that. It is even more unconscionable when the said man is a lawmaker. Edo State has a serious problem with prostitution and human trafficking involving under-age girls. Lawmakers should be protecting these young girls and not joining in the orgy that is causing a generation of Edo girls to become victims of pimps, madams and child molesters.
"We call on the necessary authorities to take up this matter and ensure that justice is done. If the said lawmaker is found culpable of these allegations, he should be recalled from the House of Assembly and criminally charged with statutory rape of minors. His act is shameful, against cultural values, predatory and animalistic. Such a man should not be allowed to roam about free, while endangering the safety of young girls everywhere in Edo State," the women added.
