Is My Woman Satisfied?

He may never admit he worries about anything, but trust us, he does.

Weakness and men don’t mix. With protector/provider ingrained in their DNA, men believe it’s their primal job to be strong. If outside influences upset a man’s strength or ability to provide and protect, the man may experience angst, stress and a desperate desire to regain control. However, since men are unlikely to share their feelings, the silent anxiety affects their relationships in untold ways.

The man wants to solve, push through or dispel his fears, but he doesn’t want to admit them to others. Meanwhile, his significant other can sense his worry, but may not be able to put her proverbial finger on the issue, which results in a disconnection and lack of understanding. She might think he is being distant, cheating, uninterested or worse.

As problem-solvers, men look for the fastest, most effective ways to work through issues, and many think the best way is to do that alone. But therein lies the main challenge for relationship dynamics: He wants to work through it alone and thus fails to communicate it, and his significant other knows something’s wrong, but doesn’t know what it is, and may assume it has something to do with her, even if it doesn’t.

So, what’s your guy scared of? Here are the top seven things men worry about:

1. Do I make enough money? Money is a huge issue, but it isn’t only about cash, it what the cash represents: Self-value (what he believes he’s worth), perceived value (by the world, by a superior, by his family, by his family of origin), security (for himself, for his family), flexibility (lifestyle, providing for his family), achievement (self and in the eyes of others) and future considerations (college for kids, retirement, weddings, vacations). Yes, women also work and contribute to these items … but most men will see this as their job.

How you can help: Stay active in the finances. Pay the bills — all the bills — together, regardless of who makes what paycheck. A joint effort means that success/challenges are addressed by both of you, and the stress is then shared. And let him know you’re proud of him. It sounds like such a small thing, but your pride in him will mean a lot.

2. Have I accomplished/done enough in life? Men look back often and wonder: What have I accomplished in my life? What is my legacy? Will I be remembered in some way? Is this what I want? Am I happy? Is the grass greener somewhere else? This self-evaluation leads to wondering if they are living life to their fullest.

How you can help: Talk to him about it … without judgement. What are his short- and long-term aspirations? What does he want for himself, and what does he need from you to make it happen?

3. Am I going to lose my job? His job is a very big deal to him, especially in these tough economic times. This fear causes men to (re)focus on their career/job. As they put their attention to it, other things suffer from a lack of attention — family, relationship, etc. He’s probably not doing it on purpose, but it leads to women asking why he doesn’t care or put effort in any more.

The rub: She doesn’t want to tell him that she feels he’s dropping back, because then his renewed effort isn’t “genuine” (read: he didn’t think of it himself, so it isn’t him wanting to).

How you can help: Acknowledge the issue and the stress that accompanies it. Remind him that you are in this together. If life throws you a curveball, you’ll be there — with him and for him. At the same time, gently remind him that he needs balance. Jobs and money might come-and-go … but you are there and that is where his effort needs to be also.

4. Am I getting old? Men do worry about their age and attractiveness. Finding gray hairs, losing eyesight, getting tired constantly … these insecurities are a combination of societal pressure, self-evaluation and a sense of nagging mortality.

How you can help: Just like you, he wants to know you still find him attractive. Let him know … and show him.

5. Am I losing my health/do I have cancer?Whether it’s a result of pure procrastination or the invasive tests/probes, many men hate the doctor — until it’s something that cannot be avoided. At the same time, he is worried … he just doesn’t want to know.

How you can help: Remind him that if he wants to see his grandkids’ grandkids graduate, he needs to stay fit and get yearly checks. Then … make it something you do together (OBGYN/pap smear, anyone?)

6. Is my significant other sexually satisfied? This issue is tricky. He wants to know that he’s “doing his job” in bed, but he doesn’t want to know if he’s not. Male ego hinged on sexual prowess, virility and skills are surely part of the reason we have Viagra for sale via mail order but male birth control is (mostly) in the testing phase.

How you can help: Talk to him … sensitively. If he’s not doing it for you, don’t tell him what he’s doing wrong, talk to him about what you like (bonus points if you say it in a breathy voice, horizontally sans clothing). The more fun/no biggie you make things, the less likely he will be to get a bruised ego. And the payoff with what you do like will increase, because he will know and he will want to.

7. Am I a good dad/will I be a good dad? If he’s considering taking the plunge into fatherhood (or is already a father), most men worry about their ability to: 1) Pass on what they know; 2) Not pass on the bad parts of their parents/fathers/childhood experiences; and 3) Be a balanced/fun/strict/good dad.

How you can help: There’s no rulebook for parenting; it’s a tough gig. Talk to him about your fears about you (because women worry about motherhood, even if nurturing comes naturally for most) and ask him about his fears. By sharing your similar issues, you can make it safe for him to be vulnerable.

Above all, women need to know that a man’s fears are his, and nothing she can do will make him face/get through/get over them. He has to firstly acknowledge the fear and then start down the path of dealing with them. While she can create an environment that makes it safe for him to discuss things, it is still his choice to do so. It’s not her job to make him do it, nor is it her failure if he chooses not to. All she can do is be there … but she can’t force.

bookthis: Hitler's leadership style was to give contradictory orders to subordinates and to place them into positions where their duties and responsibilities overlapped with those of others. In this way, Hitler fostered distrust, competition, and infighting among his subordinates to consolidate and maximise his own power. His cabinet never met after 1938, and he discouraged his ministers from meeting independently.[188][189] Hitler typically did not issue written orders, but gave them verbally at meetings or in phone conversations.

PROCESS PLANT EQUIPMENT: Operation, Control and ReliabilityMichael Holloway, Chikezie Nwaoha, and Oliver A. Onyewuenyi, (Editors). (October 2012).John Wiley and Sons, New Jersey, 736 pages, £100, ISBN 13: 9781118022641, ISBN 10: 1118022645http://eu.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-1118022645,descCd-description.htmlThe nature of human beings has been to control the immediate environment for safety and comfort. Building shelter, finding food and water, and staying warm and dry are the reasons for our success. None of this would or could be possible if we did not develop a means to communicate and retain information. Consider the fact that humans do not possess great physical strength or agility compared to other animals or the ability to withstand harsh environments without the use of an extension of our bodies (clothing and shelter). We truly rely on each other’sexperiences to help us accommodate to what the world throws at us. This book is an extension of just that—a means by which humans can share ideas and experiences in order to live our lives more comfortably. From petroleum, pharmaceuticals, and various chemicals and food products, to energy and power production, processing plants produce products essential to our survival. Without these plants we would not have the ability to get much older than our prehistoric ancestors. Developing the competence to run these plants efficiently, reliably, safely, and profitably is therefore a prime human objective. From energy to pharmaceuticals to food, the world depends on processing plants to manufacture the products that enable people to survive and flourish. With this book as their guide, readers have the information and practical guidelines needed to select, operate, maintain, control, and troubleshoot process plant equipment so that it is efficient, cost-effective, and reliable throughout its lifetime. Following the authors' careful explanations and instructions, readers will find that they are better able to reduce downtime and unscheduled shutdowns, streamline operations, and maximize the service life of processing equipment. The effort that proceeds over the next several hundred pages is nothing short of a miracle! Rarely can you get one or two people to commit to such a monumental project. This particular undertaking has herded over thirty (yes, thirty!) of the world’s top academic and engineers to embark on a project that is encyclopedic in nature. Talented folks from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, South America and North America have each put forth the effort to take on a topical chapter in order to build this work, all intended to provide readers with the information that will lead them to understand and implement best practices in process plant equipment operations, reliability, and control.PROCESS PLANT EQUIPMENT: Operation, Control and Reliability is divided into three sections:Section One: Process Equipment Operations section covers chapters on key equipment as Valves (Prof. Shoukat Choudhury, Chikezie Nwaoha and Sharad Vishwasrao), Pumps (Craig Redmond, PE), Pipes (Shaohui J.I.A), Cooling Towers (Dr. Zaki Yamani Zakaria andChikezie Nwaoha), Filters and Membranes (Flora (F) Tong and Chikezie Nwaoha), Sealing Devices (Matt Tones, PE and Jim Drago, PE), Steam Traps (Engr. Jacob E. Uche and ChikezieNwaoha), Process Compressors (Prof. N. Sitaram and Chikezie Nwaoha), Conveyors (Okenna Obi-Njoku), Storage Tanks (Dr. Marcelo Ferrara and Chikezie Nwaoha), Mixers (Jayesh Ramesh Tekchandaney), and Boilers (Celestine C. G. Nwankwo).Section Two: Process Plant Reliability section sets forth a variety of tested and proven tools and methods to assess and ensure the reliability and mechanical integrity of process equipment. It comprised chapters on Engineering Economics for Chemical Processes (Alberto R. Betancourt-Torcat, Prof. Luis. Ricardez-Sandoval and Prof. Ali Elkamel), Process Component Function and Performance Criteria (Prof. Robert Free), Failure Analysis and Interpretation of Components (Michael Holloway), Mechanical Integrity of Process Vessels and Piping (Dr. Oliver A. Onyewuenyi, PE), Design of Pressure Vessels and Piping (Prof. Maher Younan), and Process Safety in Chemical Processes (Prof. Jelenka Stefanovic Savkovic).Section Three: Process Measurement, Control, and Modeling section examine chapters on flow meters (Greg Livelli, PE and Chikezie Nwaoha), Process Control (John A. Shaw, PE), and Process Modeling and Simulation (Dr. Mathew Chidiebere Aneke).Throughout the book, numerous photos and diagrams illustrate the operation and control of key process equipment. There are also case studies demonstrating how actual process plants have implemented the tools and techniques discussed in the book. At the end of each chapter, an extensive list of references enables readers to explore each individual topic in greater depth. The book incorporates the latest information, best practices, and trends. The sound foundations of engineering principles for a process facility provided in this book have solid roots from which the tree of productivity is constantly bearing fruit. In summary, this text offers students, process engineers, and plant managers the expertise and technical support needed to streamline and optimize the operation of process plant equipment, from its initial selection to operations to troubleshooting.

After all these years, there's still nothing quite like a new project from Kirk Franklin. It's hard to believe that he's been on the scene since 1993. Since Kirk Franklin and the Family debuted, Gospel and music in general have been turning their heads to see what this self-proclaimed church boy is all about.

True to previous projects, this new one, Hello Fear, isn't just about the soulful music and innovative beats. Rather, it's the combination of his melodies and grooves with his transparency, his honesty, and his accessible story that draws us in to Franklin's world.

CDThe project title references the fact that we all deal with fears of various sorts, and that for Kirk Franklin, the time for turning and facing fears is now. The transparency is palpable.

Joining Franklin on production is longtime collaborator and keys man,Shaun "Harold" Martin. VocalistsIsaac Carree, Anaysha Figueroa, Nikki Ross, Charmaine Swimpson and Eric Moore add their harmonies to nearly every cut.

Joining Franklin on the project are guests that include Marvin Sapp and Beverly Crawford (on the traditional, organ-infused slow burner, "The Altar").

Then there's a whole slew of names on the long time coming reprise of "Something About The Name Jesus Part 2". The original, appear on Franklin's Nu Nation Project from 1998, has been in repeat play mode for many since that it first came out. Back again for the reprise are Rance Allen and Isaac Carree (whose group Men of Standard was featured on the original), with Marvin Winans andJohn P. Kee also in the mix.

Kirk FranklinNewcomer and fast riser Mali Music is tapped to join Franklin on "Give Me", adding his distinctive delivery to this soundtrack to prayer for God's strength and wisdom. Insistent snare percussion overlays high register keyboard stylings, making the sound stick.

Not many will sleep on the inspirational "Today", an infectious contemporary cut that combines beat with melody. Raise your hands in the air everybody!!

The mid tempo urban radio single "I Smile" is typical Kirk Franklin, his compositional imprint all over it. The song is "a declarative statement that I'm not going to live my life based on how I feel. I will live my life based on God's Word", says Franklin.

"I Give" is the other song making the radio rounds. The laid back ballad puts the focus on soft harmonies, with Franklin intoning declarations and promises from God's Word. "'I Am' is about exchanging all of my weaknesses for God's strength. This song is also about declaring what God says about me and not my situation. As we daily transform to God's image, we no longer identify with who we were, but who we are becoming", says Franklin.

Hello Fear is another step in the spiritual and musical journey of Kirk Franklin; it succeeds on both levels.

nduka2.jpgIrked by the public condemnation that met its opinion polls, which awarded 60.3% of the total votes in April elections to President Jonathan, huhuonline.com has learnt that Leaders and Company publishers of THISDAY newspapers has commenced legal actions

at the Federal High Court, Abuja, against four men who faulted their opinion polls.

Specifically, Messers Joe Igbokwe and Alhaji Ibrahim Modibbo, both of Action Congress of Nigeria, Yinka Odumakin of Congress for Progressive Change and Cletus Akwaya of the Peoples Democratic Party are being sued for impugning the integrity of the newspaper.

In addition, they are also being sued for imputing wrong motives against the editors of THISDAY in the discharge of their duties as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to THISDAY, the four men are trying to intimidate and harass its journalists with a view to stopping them from publishing the results of the ongoing and weekly THISDAY/Ipsos Poll ahead of the 2011 general election because the poll results, in a particular edition, did not favour their principals.

Huhuonline.com understands that the four men are being sued in the sum of N10 billion each in their personal capacities...

As huhuonlone.com published previously,

Two leading opposition parties in Nigeria, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has condemned THISDAY newspapers opinion poll which affirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan will receive 60.3% of the total votes during April polls.

Mr. Joe Igbokwe, publicity Secretary of ACN labelled ThisdayNewspapers “the number one enemy of Nigeria”.

In his words; “This is the fraudulent business Thisday newspaper has been known for since 2003 and it is all about politics of the stomach”.

“This paper did it for a fee in 2003. They did it again in 2007 for N3 Billion Naira and in 2011, these hungry guys are repeating it again. This is impunity taken to a frightening dimension”.

“For a huge fee that runs into several billions of Naira this shameless newspaper is preparing the ground for PDP to rig the 2011 election as it did in 2003 and 2007”.

“This is silly, petty, meaningless and unacceptable”

In the same vein, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin, National Publicity Secretary of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) , said “ the current publications which awarded 60.3% of the votes to be cast by long suffering Nigerians to Jonathan and PDP who are their “Tormentors-in-Chief”, looks like a last ditch effort by the PDP and its candidate to justify the massive electoral fraud they have planned to unleash on Nigerians”.

Petrol scarcity has hit Nigeria's capital, Abuja, and the nation's commercial capital, Lagos, as long queues were noticed at some filling stations on Friday. When NEXT visited the NNPC MEGA station on Olusegun Obasanjo way in Abuja, both private and commercial motorists were seen struggling to fill their tanks. A petrol attendant who simply identified herself as Esther said "petrol tankers are on strike". In Lagos also, many motorists were seen in lines for fuel.

It was confusion on Friday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos as a fire outbreak at the eight floor of the terminal made hundreds of passengers and airport users scramble for safety.

The fire, which affected the equipment and control room of the airport, was noticed by witnesses at the airport around noon, and lasted for a few minutes before the arrival of the fire fighters from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

"We were standing here when we saw a thick smoke coming out of that room upstairs and we had to raise alarm so that people will evacuate this place before any harm is done," said Stephen, a traveler at the terminal.

According to this eyewitness, the incident necessitated a "mad rush" out of the airport terminal, as people hurried outside the airport in order not to be caught in the flame.

Movements in and out of the airport was however, highly restricted by the Aviation Security personnel of the airports authority, as they provided specific assistance to the team of fire fighters.

The situation was calmed within minutes, but Akin Olukunle, the public affairs manager of the airports authority had his phones switched off, and was not available at his office to respond to the press on the development.

Meanwhile, Supo Atobatele, the public affairs manager for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) disclosed that no harm was done to the equipment in the control room, adding that the prompt arrival of the fire fighters saved the day.

The spokesperson for the agency commended the arrival of the team and noted that the ambulance from the airports authority was in place should there any form of casualty.

"It is electrical spark from the distribution box in the equipment room. The spark did not affect our equipment. Flight operations were not affected. We are now on uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)," he said..

"It did not affect the tower from doing its job. Engineers from FAAN and NAMA are already working on it.''

“Did you know Charlie?” was an advert placed in a UK local newspapers in 2004. As it was reported by Matt Roper on pages 14 and 15 of Daily Mirror, Wednesday, December 22nd , 2004. The advert read thus: “Charlie Dufar, 81. died recently, leaving a  substantial sum of money to be divided amongst his friends. We have been appointed to trace friends of Charlie in order to distribute these funds. Charlie was a widower, who lived in Rail Street for the last 12 years of his life. He was a keen football fan and spent evenings in the Mariners Arms. Did you know Charlie?. Please contact us and include brief details of your relationship with Mr Dufar..” According to Roper, the Daily Mirror  reporter, “ There was only one problem: Charlie never actually existed. We made him up- to see if anyone would try to stake a claim on his cash. Our adverts appeared in newspapers up and down the country, with fake firm of solicitors Smith-Gregory & Partners as a contact address. Within days our mail was bursting with touching memories and heart-warming stories from Charlie’s choked-up friends and colleagues. Nobody clocked the fact his surname is an anagram of “fraud”, nor that his last residence - Rail Street - is “liar” spelt backwards”  That is to show you the extend that unreasonable and greedy people could fall into victim of these scam fraudsters.

As technology advances since the world wide web (www) became accessible on a household level, it has help introduce new methods, ideas or products which has proved to have many merits –but also demerits. Criminals become more sophisticated in the methods they use to steal from people. An intentional deception made for person gain or to damage another individual is a fraud. The internet makes it easier  for these scammers, con artists and other online miscreants to carry out their nevarious crimes to pursue the shortest path to personal richest which never last. These internet crooks use different schemes or proposals ranging from sharing or disbursement substantial sum of money or property of a rich man who died recently, an unsolicited lottery, mail-box notifications, online job postings, work-from-home scams, fraudulent telephone calls, rental and real estate scams, conversion of hard currency, sale of crude oil or gold dust at below market prices, africa relief funds fraud, fake returned package (reshipping), third party receiver of funds or promise of easy money which might seem like a dream come true. 419 is perpetrated by enticing the victim a proposal which promises huge some of Pounds Sterlling or Dollars as a reward. I do not believe that there is a living soul on earth who have not receive a spam mail (unsolicited email) or an advance fee fraud letter of any sort. It is now everyday routine to encounter scam mails in your junk mail box especially the most recent “Account User Verification / Notification” from fake Hotmail or Yahoo subscribers aiming to retrieve their victim email personal data.

Meanwhile, the categories of these fraudulent schemes and business proposals fall into many categories. These include; identity theft, copycat websites, wills disbursement or transfer of  money or goods from deposed rich or African leaders, phising or spoofing, contract fraud, internet scams (lottery, auction, employment, investment scams etc) and the popular Nigerian 419 email scam. Identity theft is when someone known or unknown appropriates another’s personal information without their knowledge to commit theft or fraud. These personal information includes people’s names, dates of birth, credit card numbers, card expiry dates, personal e-mail and passwords, international passport numbers, identity card data, banks account numbers and statements and other data taking from public records.

Copycat website is another way fraudsters imitate websites of genuine financial institutons or companies and are designed in order to lure people into revealing private data and giving them access to their hard earned money. Their imitations will be in the same format with similar website name to fool the users unless they are paying close attention. The copycat website may contain unauthorised links to the websites of other reputable company to induce a sense of genuiness. Their establishment is a fake or do not exist. Their mission is completed after tricking unsuspecting users out of parting with their money.  Then, the website exist no more. The very best way to check the legitimacy of the website is to look for a security icon, usually in the form of a lock. Right click on your mouse and click on the properties label. If the URL website address is different from the address bar, it is likely to be counterfeit. Avoid remitting any funds or giving personal information until you are satisfied that the website is genuine. Also, you can check with the relevant regulators to see if the establishment is registered..

Will disbursement or transfer of  money or goods from deposed rich or African leaders is just exactly the case of Charlie Dufar explained in the beginning of this piece. The story normally goes with a very rich African leaders who died and left a large amount of funds or raw gold or property. It is only a fool or a greedy human being that usually falls to the victim of this crooked-up story. Their plans could be quickly discovered as a fraud when you got a letter from unknown person trying to involve you in such a large amount of funds, saying that you should not inform anybody about the deal and urge you to act without delay. It is funny that most of their stories are always written in the same form, featuring malapropisms, tortures syntax and misspellings.

Phishing or spoofing is another form of internet fraud vial e-mail which is forged to appear as though it was sent by someone other than the actual source. The fraudsters or hoaxers will send the emails purporting to come from your bank or other company or financial institution requesting you to click on a link to update or verify account details and disclose personal financial data such as bank account or credit card numbers, internet account user names, passwords and personal indentification number (PIN). They always threaten to suspend your account if you do not act or comply as soon as possible. The best solution for such a mail is to contact your bank or company immediately with all detail information you received. Phone phising is almost the same with the email message. The fraudster will call and claim to be from your bank or financiacial institution, advising you of a fraud scam going around and asking you to confirm your banking identity details. Avoid giving your personal data on phone.

The lottery, auction, employment, investment scams are other types of “get rich quick opportunities” common in all peoples’ inbox messages. These internet crooks tell victims they won a lottery, but they must pay the taxes and processing fees upfront. They trick you to send these fee before eventually send you a fake check. There is no point in contacting anybody if you do not remember entering a lottery. Auction fraud is misrepresentation of a product advertised for sale or the non-delivery of products purchased through an internet auction site. The employment and investment frauds also aim to retrieve the prospective employees and victims personal information to defraud them and their families by making fraudulent claims to apply for loans or purchase items. The investment scams also known as Ponzi or Pyramid schemes are tricks in which investors are promised abnormally high profits on their investment. At the end, no investment is actually made. Beware of any deal that charge a fee prior to delivering your prize or promise additional money as a requirement to be eligible for future winnings or profits. People should always be vigilant with online transactions.

The most popular Nigerian advance fee fraud letter or “419” was named after the section 419 of the Nigerian Criminal Code which addresses frauds schemes combine with the threat of impersonation with a variation of an advance fee scheme in which a letter. email, or fax is received by the potential victim. This scam operates by sending an unsolicited fax, email, or letter often concerning Nigeria or another African nation to the targetted victim. The subject matter contains either a money laundering or illegal proposal which always involve a large amounts of funds-usually millions of US Dollars. The scammers will promise their trusted “unknown” victim a healthy percentage of these funds as commission as soon as the funds are out of the country. The victim is encouraged to send his personal information such as  blank letterhead stationary, bank name and account numbers, and other identifying information without delay to the author (fraudster). The scheme relies on convincing a willing victim to send money to the author of the letter in several installments of increasing amounts for a variety of reasons. At the end, this large amount of funds does not exist. This Nigerian 419 scam is so popular that there are more than hundred private and public groups and websites dedicated to fight this plague and their perpetrators. It is advisable to file any complaint on 419 scam with the Nigeria  Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on www.efccnigeria.org and with the Central Bank of Nigeria Anticorruption Unit on www.cenbank.org ( anticorruptionunit@cenbank.org This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) .

Finally, there is no doubt that the twenty first century criminal is a plague with the touch of the worldwide web at fingertips. Internet scams are various and rife. They are also ingenious and dangerous. Scam is scandalous, a ruin to the nation and humanity. In order to combat the internet fraud and threat, security companies have been pushing to develop new protection models. They are promoting items like fingerprint scanners and face recognition on devices, and tools that can disable a device or freeze the data it holds from afar, if an attack is reported. Many companies and people are using internet to take your money. In order to reduce your chances of becoming a victim, it is more important and advisable not respond to unsolicited email (spam) talk-less of giving your personal information. The same thing applies to links contained with unknown e-mails.         We have to be extra vigilant when disposing of bank statements, checks, receipts, bills and credit cards. Passwords for all financial accounts should be changed regularly. If you are asked to act quickly from any e-mail received, it may be a scam because fraudsters always create a sense of urgency to get you to act quickly. It is advisable not to keep security numbers, PINs or passwords in your purse or wallet, or store in your mobile phone, PC or laptop. It is now a collective responsibility of every citizen to fight these internet crooks that is giving our beloved country a bad name because no nation can develop with fraud and corruption. The fact is that, it is much harder to maintain a web of deceit and malpractice than it is to make use of internet sea of information and opportunities to develop oneself, people and community successfully. You may defraud others, from a distance; but close up, you defraud yourself.  All parents should talk about internet use and safety in general with their children. Internet as a saviour is not the future as many people think. It is the present and we – the people - are the future.

Views of Brazil in two fellow members of the Bric group of countries - Russia and India - are less negative than they are in the fourth members of the group, China, but still only lukewarm. Most respondents in both countries said they were neutral towards Brazil, or offered no opinion, but only 29% in India and 37% in Russia had a positive view.
Positive views of South Africa's influence jumped from 35% to 42% overall, with big improvements in the US and Canada, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and South Korea.
Overall, positive ratings increased for 13 of the 16 nations respondents were asked to rate.
"While last year relatively dour views of nations were prevalent - perhaps reflecting the mood of the economic downturn - the mood now seems to be relatively upbeat," said Pipa director, Steven Kull.
US recovery
The average ratings of the three most negatively viewed countries - Iran, North Korea and Pakistan - went from bad to worse, however.
In 2007, the US was among the countries with the lowest ratings, but it has climbed quickly up through the rankings since then.
Focusing on polling results from 15 countries where the survey has been carried out every year since 2005, positive views of the US outnumbered negative views in 2010 for the first time, and are now 12 points clear. That leaves the US roughly in the middle of the league table of 16 countries.
The most negative views of the US are found in majority-Muslim countries, though opinions in Indonesia have undergone a marked shift in the last year, with positive views of US influence, at 58%, now more than twice as prevalent as negative views (25%).
In Turkey views remained negative overall, but there was a 22-point increase in positive views (now 35%) and a 21-point drop in negative ratings (now 49%).
In Egypt, however, while views of the US improved in 2010, they tumbled again this year. In the 2011 survey - carried out before the revolution that toppled President Hosni Mubarak - negative views rose 21 points to 50%, while positive views dropped 19 points to 26%.

12166286284?profile=originalWhoimages?q=tbn:ANd9GcS58wszDjDombUKKJiQNPmLJz_zBAhdpWzShBW9pdrkCUkU6ktoENYwGg would have thought that one single Tweet could cause such a riot?

But then we’re talking Kanye West here – global god of the cool block.

So it happened that just after midnight yesterday, at exactly 1.47, the man with over 2.5 million followers, but only 1397 Tweets since he started Tweeting in July 2010 ‘released’ one Tweet that concerned Nigeria, and all Twitter broke loose.

From @kanyewest: Yo @iamdbanj and @donjazzymohits get back to NY asap there is still work to be done.

Don Jazzy – a Twitter-holic if there was one but who hasn’t Tweeted in 13 days – was quick with his response. @DONJAZZYMOHITS: @kanyewest yes boss. See u soon.

And D’banj – who Tweets, er, about once every other three months – followed suit.  @iamdbanj: @kanyewest oooossssheee no worries boss. Coming soon.

Wow.

All so calmly, like this was just another Tweet all in a day’s job – no big deal. All so cool. All so… Don Jazzy.

Apparently, coming on the heels of the Snoop Dogg – Uncle Snoop, he was called in the video – collabo that is still shaking the African entertainment hemisphere, Don Jazzy and D’banj are set for a collaboration with the Hip-Hop living legend, Kanye West (already christened Uncle Kanyinsolaoluwa by @eaboyeji).

Said a source very close to the Mo-Hits management over a quick phone interview, who asked for anonymity as, according to him, Don Jazzy is trying to do this hush-hush, “Something big is popping. Watch this space – Don Jazzy is not playing games this year. But that Tweet was not a mistake o – Kanye is not a small boy. I no fit talk pass that one o.”

If, as the source said, this was a Marketing gimmick – and the fact that both music stars were awake just at the right time to respond to the post-midnight Tweet goes to confirm that it most certainly was – then it absolutely worked.

Nigerians – those still awake, of course – immediately began to Ping and to Tweet and to wake up their compatriots to the, er, good news. Facebook and Twitter went wild, as people Re-Tweeted and Re-Posted the message frantically.

‘Mo-Hits’ and ‘WhenKanyeTweetedatandDbanjandDonja’ almost immediately began to Trend in Lagos, and Nigerian Timelines could hardly miss at least a Tweet on the subject.

The excitement was palpable. Darey Art-Alade, who launched his new album yesterday, could not help sharing in the excitement: “Make una do quick!”, he tweeted.

His colleague, Sound Sultan, added his voice: “we gonna do it from home big sign for a lotta ppl,” he said.

Popular columnist, Tolu Ogunlesi, who shared at least 10 excited Tweets on the matter, chipped in with his trademark tongue-in-cheek: “GEJ may have “brought” FB to #NG, buh Mohits moved Kanye’s ‘Endowed’ fingers to tweet naija. They should get national awards.”

For good measure, he also threw this in: “Breaking: FG declares public holiday to celebrate @kanyewest tweet”!

@kennybayeroju had something to add: “and later south africa will start claiming that they are relevant in africa/ abegggggg abeggg its all about nigeria.”

And, on her part, @SomaKudi,  found the moment so historic that she had a word for those who dared to sleep at this rarefied moment! “People who are sleeping at this moment have lost out big time. Reminds me of the unprepared bridesmaids in the Bible #Deep,” she Tweeted.

Indeed as recent developments involving MI (who Trended globally following release of MI2), Omawumi (for whom Nigerians on Twitter went gaga when she released her latest single “If you ask me”) and other artistes have shown, Twitter is changing the way the game is played – both as a conversation driver and a Trend-setter (puns intended).

At this moment, it has underlined a reality many of us already knew – the guys at Mo-Hits are certainly at the top of their game.

Glory Edozien, Features Editor of BellaNaija.com capped its significance quite succintly: “Moral of the story: see a man diligent in his ways, he will not stand before mere men! What ever u do, do it well…put ur backbone into it!”

As another Nigerian, @Lowla360, remarked following the Tweet that changed the music game: ‘Twitter its bout time our boys got their accounts verified yo!!! Bawo lo shey check e??”

And let the people say ‘Amen’.

The Okoye family in Awgu Enugu State is battling to come to terms with what became of their son months after he left his home in Lagos for a prayer mission.
Okoye-disappear[1].gif?width=228
Okoye

Peter Joseph Okoye who was last seen on November 21, 2010 could rightly be said to have just disappeared.

He is founder of Jesus the Man I Know Ministry and was to travel to his hometown in a week’s time before his disappearance to commence processes for his marriage. While Peter’s whereabouts remain a mystery his beloved fiancée, Ifunanya Umeh keeps waiting for the marriage.

The beginning of the gist is that Peter was allegedly sent to Ijebu Ode by a member of his ministry, Philip Enyabine to rescue a man struck by lightning.

In a petition to the Inspector General of Police, the family is alleging that Ifunanya was used as bait by his boss, Enyabine, to lure their brother to his waterloo. They claimed that the duo pricked by their sense of guilt, dramatically turned round to be the ones raising alarm about Peter, when the family still presumed that he was on one of his usual evangelical missions that sometimes kept him for days, except on Fridays.

Their story

Tracing his disappearance, his elder brother Uche, told Saturday Sun that his brother, an evangelist, spent little or no time in their house at 38 Osho Drive, Olodi, Apapa, Lagos. He recalled that on November 20, Sunday, Peter returned from a programme with a food flask supposedly from his fiancée. He told his brothers that his wife prepared a dish for him which he shared with his brother and friends. “Shortly after the meal he left for his usual work. Because of the demands of his ministry, nobody bothered to know whether he came back to the house or not. We became worried when on November 23 his fiancée, Ifunanya, called our sister, in Nsukka demanding to know if Peter was with her.”

Peter’s sibling wondered why Ifunaya who was a regular visitor at their home could call their sister in far away Nsukka. They immediately tried his mobile line to find he had switched off. They also called Ifunanya back to hear from her that Peter went to see one of the members of his ministry, Philip Enyiabine. The siblings visited Enyiabine, a familiar person to the family to know if he knew their brother’s whereabouts. Uche said Enyiabine told them that he sent Philip to rescue his friend who was struck by lightning at a monastery in Ijebu Ode.

“He said his friend was on his way to the east, when his vehicle broke down at Ore. He decided to go down to the Ijebu Ode monastery, where he was struck by lightning. He said he had spoken with Peter who confirmed to him he was at Ijebu Ode for the prayer and had promised to return as soon as possible.”

Confusion

All friends and allies were determined to help the Okoyes find their brother. To demonstrate his commitment, Enyabine, gave the team some money to travel to Ijebu Ode and its environs incase, Peter was involved in an accident. On November 26, the rescue team combed all prayer sites in Oyo and Ogun states and some of the monks on site told them that they did not see someone that fits their description of Peter who also was a regular visitor to the prayer mountains in the area. At the Ogun Monastery, the monk in-charge, told them that there was no incident of thunder strike in the area and called its Ijebu Ode branch that also affirmed that no one was struck. Back in Lagos they lodged a complaint with the police and Federal Road Safety Corp. Both told them they had no record involving their brother.

Back home and confused, the family kept on making frantic efforts to locate their brother, Pastors who claimed to have the spirit of vision visited them and promised to help them locate their brother. One of such persons was Peter’s assistant. But after sometime and search efforts, the family got threat calls from unknown persons warning them to stay off the effort and attempt to locate Peter or risk facing same fate.

However hope of finding Peter waxed on November 28 when the family received a call from a man who claimed to have abducted him. The caller demanded N5m ransom, but finally agreed to take N200,000 after much pleading to release him. Still determined to help the family find Peter, Enyabine also gave N100,000. They were directed to drop the money at a spot in Ajegunle, Lagos, which they did with the promise that Peter would be released the next day. They waited endlessly and Peter was not found nor released till now.

Accusations

The matter took another dimension when the family discovered that Ifunanya was allegedly hiding some important information from them. After much pressure, she told the family that Enyabine had alleged that Peter made away with his money. Taken aback, the family wondered why Enyabine or Peter’s fiancée never told them of this development all this while.

They confronted Enyabine who confirmed that Peter defrauded him of N20 million.

“I asked him to explain to the entire family, how our brother who he never had any business with duped him of N20m. He told us that he kept money in a special room and Peter asked him to mix the money with some dollars and pray so the money will increase. And true to his words the money increased and he was advised to keep it in that room. He never suspected anything till Peter disappeared. They opened the house and discovered that all the money, about N5m was gone. At that point it became clear that Enyabine could know the whereabouts of our brother, so we reported the case to the police.”

He narrated further that: “I introduced my brother to Enyabine when he had problem in his business. Months after the introduction, his life changed and in appreciation, Enyabine gave him a brand new bus and a flat at Iyana Iba. He also employed his fiancée as personal assistant. It was after this discovery that I recalled that Peter had told us that he was offered money by some people to stop praying for Enyabine. Even if, our brother owes him, let him tell us where to find him and he will surely get his money back. Why did it take him 13 days to open up and accuse my brother of theft if there is no hidden agenda? We felt betrayed that a woman our brother is planning to marry would do this.”

All efforts to get across to Enyabine failed as his phone numbers where out of reach. Our finding is that he has since relocated to Abuja where the matter is being investigated. Ifunanya who was also indicted told Saturday Sun on phone that she was arrested and taken to Abuja for investigation. “I have been released and I know that my God will vindicate me.”

Police investigation

When the suspicion heightened, the Okoyes reported the matter to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation, Panti, and Enyabine and Ifunanya were arrested and interrogated. Not satisfied with the outcome of the investigation, the family sought the transfer of the case to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Adeniji Adele, Lagos.

The event however took a dramatic turn, when the suspect, Enyabine tired of harassment cried for justice and the Okoye brothers were arrested and transferred to Abuja where the Commissioner for Police, Special Investigation Unit is handling the case. At the time of filing this report Uche was still in detention for false accusation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olusola Amore told Saturday Sun that the police are investigating the matter to find out what became of Peter. He also said in response to Uche’s detention that in the course of investigation, both the accused and the complainant are relevant and the police cannot be used to intimidate any person when investigation has not shown that the accused is guilty.

He called on the Okoye family to be patient as the police would bring anyone involved in the sudden disappearance of Peter to face the wroth of the law.

12166301491?profile=originalPresident Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday made history when he ordered that henceforth, females interested in becoming combatant officers for the Nigerian armed forces should be admitted into the Nigeria Defence Academy.

Minister of Defence, Adetokumbo Kayode who made the disclosure at a media briefing in Abuja, said, though the issue had been under consideration by the military high command for sometime, President Jonathan took the decision to start it immediately because it is the right thing adding that "Other countries in Africa are already doing it and they are not better than us".
Photos: Are of US Female Soldier Lavena Johnson who was Raped/Murdered in the barracks in strange circumstances. Will The "Men" who beat their wives in the 9ja Army allow this to become a norm instead of a "killing" ground of our women ?

We remember the allegation that the 9ja Army fathered upto a whopping 250,000 kids during the Liberian conflict !

Main Story:
"Presently, we have female armoured tank drivers, female Para-troopers, Jumpers, and so on. We will follow international best practices in this regards. We want to have strong, virile armed forces devoid of discrimination".

Expatiating on the new directive, the minister said, "As you are all aware, the Nigerian Armed forces had always had opening for female officers. However, these have always been limited to non combat duties thereby limiting their career path irrespective of their competence or skill".

"To redress this obvious anomaly and in line with conviction of the President that every Nigerian irrespective of Gender or any affiliation should be given equal opportunity to excel in his or her chosen field of life, Mr. President has directed the immediate enlistment and training of female regular combatant commission officers into the Nigerian armed forces".

"The training of the female regular combatant cadets along with their male counterparts will be at the NDA, Kaduna where they will pass out with a degree in a chosen academic field and a regular combatant commission into the Nigerian Armed forces".

The minister continued, "As you might already know, we have various types of commission in the armed forces namely; Regular Combatant Commission, Short Service Combatant Commission, Direct Regular Commission, Direct Short Service and Executive Commission. Of all these types of commissions, it is only the Regular Combatant Commission that can give an officer the opportunity to aspire to head any of the services or rise to become the Chief of Defence staff".

"It is in this consideration that the Presidential directive was given in other to provide the female officers the same opportunity of rising to the pinnacle of their profession. This directive is also aimed at providing women, career opportunities that would allow them to compete with their male counterparts for the highest offices in the military".12166302064?profile=original

"The female regular combatant officers will therefore have the opportunity, as their male counterparts, to command major units of the army, fly fighter jets of the Airforce and to be seamen officers who could command a combat going vessel of the Nigerian Navy", the minister said..

Reacting to a question, he said, “there will be no discrimination with regard to training. The same standard will be applied to both male and female intakes. There will no gender issues involved as it will be strictly be in compliance with NDA statutes”.

LaVena Johnson (July 27, 1985 - July 19, 2005) was a Private First Class in the United States Army whose death, officially ruled a suicide, has attracted international attention amid claims she was raped and murdered. She was the first female soldier from Missouri to die in Iraq.

Johnson's death was officially ruled a suicide by the Department of Defense. However, her father became suspicious when he saw her body in the funeral home and decided to investigate. The Army initially refused to release information, but did so under the Freedom of Information Act after Representative William Lacy Clay, Jr. raised questions about it at the congressional hearings over Pat Tillman's death.[3]
The autopsy report and photographs revealed Johnson had a broken nose, black eye, loose teeth, burns from a corrosive chemical on her genitals, and a gunshot wound that seemed inconsistent with suicide. Several reporters have suspected that the chemical burns were to destroy DNA evidence of a rape

Amnesty International Report on 9gerian (sic) Soldiers

women despoiled by police and army

"Disturbing trends of despoil and sexual violence against women and girls at the hands of police and security forces" have been revealed in Nigeria. Some security forces act as if they were entitled to despoil local women, and they are sure never to face justice.

"There were three men. I have pain even today… they used my daughter too. She is 12 years old… They also despoiled my sister. Another man despoiled a woman who was 4 months pregnant and she lost the child…they were military men. Everyone in the village saw them, they didn't hide, they didn't care. I didn't tell the police because I fear them."

This is one of the testimonies presented at a press conference in Lagos, Nigeria, today by the human rights group Amnesty International. The testimony is part of a report on sexual abuse of women by Nigerian security forces, which according to Amnesty could almost be termed systematic.

despoil by police and security forces is endemic in Nigeria as is the abject failure of the Nigerian authorities to bring perpetrators to justice, the human rights group said at the press conference. They called on Nigeria's federal and State authorities to urgently overhaul the legal and social systems that tolerate widespread despoil and sexual violence against women and girls across the country.

Amnesty launched the report "Nigeria: despoil - the silent weapon", which draws upon the testimony of survivors and "identifies disturbing trends of despoil and sexual violence against women and girls at the hands of police and security forces." The report argues that these acts are compounded and encouraged by failures at every level of the judicial system and persist because of consistent failure by the state to tackle the abuse of women and girls by the police and security forces.

Whether abused by police, security forces or in their homes and community, the report outlines the enormous difficulties faced by women and girls who are despoiled or sexually abused in Nigeria.

"The harsh reality is that if you are a woman or a girl in Nigeria who has suffered the terrible experience of being despoiled, your suffering is likely to be met with intimidation by the police, indifference from the state and the knowledge that the perpetrator is unlikely to ever face justice," said Kolawole Olaniyan of Amnesty.

At the press conference, there was further presented evidence of the use of despoil and sexual slavery by the Nigerian security forces "to intimidate communities in the Niger Delta." The oil-rich but impoverished Delta has fallen into violence as local rebels fight for a greater part of oil revenues to be channelled to the region.

The group further outlined how despoil is used by the police as a means of torture to extract confessions from suspects in custody and how women and girls rarely seek prosecution for fear of intimidation by the police and rejection by their families and community. When they do, widespread failures throughout the judicial system result in only an estimated 10 percent of cases ever being successfully prosecuted.

The report outlines serious obstacles to the reporting and prosecution of despoil in Nigeria, including inadequate training of police that results in the humiliation and intimidation of the victims and police investigations hampered by corruption and incompetence. On the legislative level, differences between federal, state, Shari'a and customary law lead to uneven standards of justice and arbitrary decisions concerning the seriousness of the crime.

"Our report depicts the near total failure of the Nigerian state to protect women and girls from these terrible crimes. The Nigerian government has taken no meaningful action to translate its international legal obligations towards woman and girls into national law, policy and practice. It is now time that the state and federal authorities meet those obligations and offer real security and justice to women and girls in Nigeria," Ms Olaniyan said
.

12166300684?profile=originalThe glamorous lovers’ day celebration on Monday turned bloody at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) when gunmen killed two students. Daily Sun gathered that the clash was between two rival cult groups, namely, Black Axe and the Buccaneers,’ over a female student allegedly snatched by the Capone of the Black Axe for Valentine celebration.

The action of the Capone , the source said did not go down well with the other group leading to the clash.
A student who witnessed the shooting said besides the two cult members who were shot dead, about four others sustained injuries and were ferried out of the campus by their leaders to shield their identity.

The sources said the cult members who carried out the attack were not UNILAG students but members from another campus, adding that the attack was carried out in a commando style with sporadic shooting.
An undergraduate student of English Department told Daily Sun that the Buccaneers’ group attacked the Black Axe members while another student returning from the Mosque said those who carried out the killing were not from UNILAG because they did not cover their faces.

It was learnt that as soon the shooting started, students scampered for safety while others took cover behind the wall and under cars packed around, while others ran into the halls to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
A senior lecturer who confirmed the killings said the university management had met to curtail any reprisal attack while security personnel had taken over the investigation of the deadly cult clash.
When Daily Sun visited the troubled institution yesterday, there was uneasy calm, as most staff and students rebuffed efforts made by the reporters to get their comments.

However, one of the students who resides at Sodeinde Hall, said there was sporadic gunshots outside the premises which caused panic everywhere.
It was gathered that the crisis, which erupted when the students were at the peak of lovers’ day celebration, created stampede on the campus as people ran for safety.

One of the victims of the attack reportedly ran into Sodeinde Hall for help, from where he was taken to the hospital.
Although the Hall Master of Sodeinde Hall declined comments on the issue, one of the officials, who wouldn’t want his name published, said the attack could not be linked to any cult group. He said there was increasing speculation that the perpetrators of the attack could be fighting for love. Efforts made by Daily Sun our reporter to ascertain the identities of the victims were unsuccessful.
The news bulletin of the university, Information Flash (ISSN 08195540) also captured the incident, while assuring the staff and students of the university of adequate security.

“The attention of the universities authorities has been drawn to the incident which occurred in one of the Halls of Residence in the late hours of Monday, February 14, 2011 where two persons were reportedly injured in fracas. The university management has commenced investigation into the unusual incident, in particular at a time when preparation for the first semester examinations due to commence on February 21, 2011 are in top gear. Security has been intensified to ensure safety of life and property on campus. Law enforcement agents have been involved to assist the university in this respect,” it said.
Daily Sun learnt that students are leaving the campus because of the fear of reprisal attack while some parents called their wards on phone to return home until the situation is brought under control.

The Deputy Registrar Information of UNILAG, Mr. Dare Adebisi refused to pick his calls or replied to text message sent to his phone.
When the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Samuel Jinadu (DSP) was called thrice, he promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area and did not call back as at the press time....

She needs to buy all sorts of stuff to make the birthday colourful, so as to retain her name as the best mother in the world (at least to the celebrant). Yet she was in a mood to chat with us. We're at her Ikeja GRA office. Face-to-face in a little cubicle, Omosexy – as she is fondly called by both her husband and her fans opened up like someone who had been bottled up for a while. She smiled warmly, chose her words carefully and took time to stress her points, even though her eldest child waits impatiently in the reception area – waiting for us to get the interview over with, so that the birthday shopping can begin. But the minute-counter on the recorder only reads two minutes five seconds; which means the interview is just beginning.

We traced the story of her life, probing without borders, digging deeper than a Julius Berger drill, and almost giving her goose pimples.

From her days on Molue buses, preaching away like a career evangelist, to her cross over from movie to music, her alleged snobbish attitude, and that celebrated enmity with fellow movie star Genevieve Nnaji, she spoke with Dimeji Ogedengbe until the recorder batteries were completely exhausted...

To start with, do you still find time to cook your hubby's meal?

I do all the time. I always cook in bulk if I am travelling. They bring it out and warm from the microwave. Even if I'm in the middle of a shoot, if I have to, I'll come back, especially if something urgent comes up. It hardly happens. Basically, I cook in large quantities. It's something I've trained myself for. The only problem is NEPA. There are times when there's no light or the generator is bad. Then they have to turn out stuff. I don't like de-frozen food.

Before Ije, We had stopped seeing you in movies. We only heard about you in the music industry; is music conflicting with your movie career?

No. Absolutely not. I'm just chilling not to be in too many movies at this period; because there are not too many projects out there right now that I really want to do. There are a few movies that I love and recently I've have shot about four of them, that's straight to video movies. Otherwise I'm also looking more to shoot movies like 'IJE' and also to encourage the producers and directors of such movies. You know, promoting such movies takes a lot of time; you have to travel around and all that. I really have been travelling to promote other movies. I have another project called 'Mind game' and I've been promoting that since last year as well, just as i did 'IJE' . So, that's what I've mostly been doing with the movie side of my life but otherwise I've shot other movies on the local scene.images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTdoEbDDnCssW4tQmm6OZzLPIUJqYZe2KC78SXVO5A1y98AllAE

You have one album to your credit and the second one is coming out; has it been promising so far? {EDITOR'S NOTE: Omotola's second album Me, Myself and Eyes, has since been released}

Absolutely! Extremely, in fact. I've always known that nothing good comes easy so I'm not one of those people who come in and think everything has to go their way. I know most times that you really have to work hard to get things and I know that if nothing else, something has to give you a fight. I know that I have to be strong-willed, confident and hardworking. I know exactly what to expect. I think I'm surprised that things are catching up quickly and faster than I thought it would. I'm really bracing up for a big fight not only in Nollywood but around the world. It's never been easy for people to cross over from movies to music likewise from music to movies. I envisaged a very tough fight and very hard terrain. You know, a lot of people think it's just something you do to pass time because you are bored or there is something else you are looking for..

But what can you say is your priority Music or Movie?

None necessarily. My priority is entertainment first and foremost because that's the profession I've chosen to do. It's like asking a doctor – GP has to be your specialty. I mean they can decide to take another course and do other parts of medicine. My specialty is entertainment. I could be a poet, a dancer, stage act, singer or an actor. It's all within entertainment.

You and Genny – Is this the first time you are doing a movie together?

No.

Why does 'Ije' seem to be more pronounced?

Well, that's because it's actually a big movie. Other movies we've done like 'Games Women Play' and 'Sister in love' were big too, 'Blood Sisters', is one of the biggest African movies in the world till date. So, I mean we've done a couple of movies together but I guess 'Ije' is just on another level. It's big, it's a film and it's well promoted.

A lot of people see you two as rivals; with 'Ije' it would seem you both have a robust relationship. Are you guys quite close? Did you get along well while on set?

That's the irony. There is nothing to get along and nothing not to get along. The idea is actually in peoples mind. People read meaning to everything. The point is we are not best friends or close friends and we are not enemies too. We are just colleagues and we are cool. I mean if I see her somewhere, I would be like 'hello hello' and we'll go our separate ways like every other person. I really don't understand what the fantasy is with me and Genevieve in particular. She's not the first person I'm acting a sisterly role with and she will definitely not be the last but I know, somebody or people just have feelings of those two brands. I don't even think we look alike so it's an irony why people keep tagging us as sisters. It's weird but it's what it is.

You were alleged to have snobbed a male fan who offered you a handshake on the red carpet of Ije premiere in Lagos. Are you truly a snob?

Wow, I'm hearing this for the first time. I don't remember anything of that nature happening. Are you sure I saw this person? There was no way anyone could have even come up to me because I had a bodyguard with me. Are you sure he was trying to shake me or he was giving me something? That's not possible. To everybody who said 'hello' to me that day, I said 'hello' back. I was even over friendly. We even had a situation where i was playing with the area boys. So if I could play with area boys outside my car why would someone try to shake me on the red carpet and I won't respond to the gesture? That's strange..

It was tempting to watch and see what ‘The Perfect Church’ had to offer that Nollywood had not served up a million times before.

The religious satire from Wale Adenuga Productions is a screen adaptation of Ebi Akpeti’s novel of the same title. Unusually for a Nollywood picture, The Perfect Church lampoons, albeit not too hard, but the difference from the rest of the pack is clear. Cheating husbands, homosexuals, ‘carnal believers’ and desperate singles are some of the awkward vehicles moving the story’s plot.

Perfect by Name

The movie, directed by Bambo Adebajo, opens aptly during Sunday service. A choir session is ongoing in Pastor Benson’s ‘The Perfect Church’. Ramsey Nouah is fitting in his role as Benson, shepherd of the perfect flock. It is not the first time Nouah will be playing a pastor, though. He played a similar role in ‘Church Business’, another religious satire from 2003.

Leading praise and worship with the ‘voice of an angel’ is Sister Angela, played by Funke Akindele, a senator’s mistress. The pastor’s sermon on marriage is a winner with the congregation and they rush to gush to the pastor about how moving it is: the congregation is in awe of its pastor and the pastor is proud of his followers.

Alas, the key players in the church’s activities are living a lie. Things in the Church are not exactly as they seem. We are soon introduced to the ‘who’s who of what’s what’ in The Perfect Church.

Mr and Mrs. Ojo are the church’s perfect couple, superbly portrayed by Hakeem Rahman and Ngozi Ezeonu. Pastor Benson cites them as examples of what a perfect marriage should be and hopes the rest of the church will emulate their ‘exemplary’ union.

Norbert Young is Mrs Ojo’s former husband, who brings back good and bad memories. Jibola Daboh is the distinguished Senator Val, lover to Sister Angela. Despite having only a cameo appearance, Val is not easily forgotten and in a movie filled with very bad men, Daboh joins Rahman as its super-villains.

The church’s head usher, anxious to marry above his status, soon dips his hands into the money box, much like Judas Iscariot before him. Needless to say, the Pastor did feel betrayed. Same for Yinka Olukunga in her role as the devoted, desperate church sister eager to become Pastor Mrs. Benson. She indulges in unsolicited ‘cooler’ ministry and has the courage to propose to the Pastor after she is convinced that reception was loud and clear when her prayers revealed she would be the handsome preacher’s life partner. Benson, however, has other interests.

Imperfect by Nature

The much-anticipated visit by Bishop Williams is the catalyst for the unfurling and the collapse of the sandcastle that is the Perfect Church. Acted excellently by Olu Jacobs, it is hard not to fall under the spell of the Bishop, who soon has all and sundry confessing to myriad sins. It is during his altar call that we see that there are more sinners than previously believed. It was easier to have simply said ‘Go and sin no more’ to the residents of this contemporary Sodom and Gomorrah.

The picture ends happily for some; two go to jail for attempted murder and one to hell for suicide. On its part, the audience is acquainted with a narrator we never knew existed. She obliges us – as she does the visiting students from a private secondary school - with an epilogue on the Perfect Church Saga. There is hope that a change in the church’s name will herald a change in its nature.

The Perfect Church is not the perfect movie. In its search for complexity, there are too many flashbacks rather than authentic twists and revelations that could task the audience’s imagination. The hints to the pastor’s darker side are merely glossed over and we don’t feel the punch or essence of this until the climactic moment of disclosure. The emphasis appears more on the flock than on the shepherd and at the end, the pastor’s misfortune seems not to matter so much. Not even to his flock whose awe swiftly turns to disgust.

His comeuppance at the end of the movie is also unrealistic and more of a cowardly act. In fact, the unexpected suggestion by a child in the audience to ‘Kill all of them; just kill them’ sounded like a more logical option than the pastor’s eventual choice.

No Part Two

‘The Perfect Church’ does not draw a clear line for itself between a satire and a moralist play or a Greek tragedy. At some points, it preaches forgiveness and also mocks the same; it hails courage but then takes the easy way out; it satirises and also pampers.

The subtitles were sometimes faulty and some of the grammatical howlers strike you in the face like a bad day in history.

The movie however makes up for its flaws with humorous lines and action. Beneath the humour also lies a pointer to the thought that, in reality, no perfect flock exists and the lesson that sin does not pay...

Even though it seemed like another episode of Super Story, there is no promise of a sequel. See it if you love Nollywood; see it if you hate Nollywood..
