12166303693?profile=originalThe senatorial candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Benue South senatorial district, retired General Lawrence Onoja,  was shot today in a village near Otukpo, Benue state where he was billed to receive People's Democratic Party (PDP ) decamps to his party.

retired army general Onoja told SaharaReporters over the phone that he was shot before he could reach  the decamping ceremony at Otukpo-Icho township near Otukpo where a PDP politician, Oko Iklagher and 3,000 decamped to ACN.
 
He claimed that armed men suspected to be PDP thugs shot him in the left arm while he was traveling in the same vehicle , an Ash-colored Toyota Prado Sports utility Vehicle-with "Young Alhaji", a popular businessman in the area who contested again Mr. Mark in the 2007 elections. Young Alhaji is currently the deputy goober candidate of the ACN in the state. he too sustatined some injuries from broken glasses from the vehicle.


Onoja is running against the current Nigerian  Senate President and PDP candidate, David Mark.

General Onoja expressed concern about the activities of the supporters of the Nigerian senate president in their area. He state that two days ago, PDP thugs attacked "Hausa quarters"  targeting ACN members who boldly display the party's broom emblem with the Senate president campaign vehicles openly used in harassing opponents...
 
 Calls to Mr. Mark's phones were not returned as at the time of filing this report.
