Award (4)

Cameroon and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o set a new landmark for individual success in African football on Monday after being named the continent's Footballer of the Year for a record fourth time.

12166296678?profile=originalThe 2010 award came five years after his last triumph and capped a year of unprecedented club success in which he also extended his scoring record at the African Nations Cup finals.

The Cameroon captain finished ahead of Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan of Ghana in the polling for Africa's top individual prize, awarded at the Confederation of African Football's awards gala in Cairo.

"It is a pleasure to be a winner again, to take it for the fourth time against such top opposition," Eto'o told a news conference after the ceremony.

"It is true now that Africa has so many good players and there is lots of talent coming up, so this might be a last chance for me."

Eto'o was African Footballer of the Year from 2003-05 and his fourth award surpasses the three titles won by Abedi Pele in the early 1990s.jpeg&STREAMOID=bBLld$04Pbkd$CLrzcdCQC6SYeqqxXXqBcOgKOfTXxT0dtkZQrvlKNstOzlIebRvnW_PgxgftuECOcfJwS6Jtlp$r8Fy$6AAZ9zyPuHJ25T7a9GKDSxsGxtpmxP0VAUyHL6IDcZHtmM2t7xO$FHdJG95dFi6y2Uma3vSsvPpVyo-

Eto'o's goal-scoring form helped Inter Milan to a triple of titles last season, including the UEFA Champions League in which the 29-year-old took a winner's medal for a second successive year.

He scored on Saturday as the Italians beat African champions TP Mazembe Englebert in the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi.

Eto'o scored twice at the Nations Cup in Angola in January to stretch his tournament record tally of goals to 18. He also netted at the World Cup finals but later described Cameroon's poor performance in South Africa as the biggest disappointment of his career.

Omosexy wins sexiest actress award

Fresh from hosting a 5-star album launch she performed in , Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has
continued to prove that her nom de plume, “Omosexy”, was earned through hard work, focus, self denial and public acceptance as she has emerged Vanguardmedia’s “Sexiest Woman in Nollywood” in their Nollywood 2009 Reloaded Awards.

Omotola polled a total of 11, 622 votes , giving her a clear lead over runner-up, Genevieve Nnaji who polled 10,677 votes and second runner-up, Chika Ike, who polled 8,579 votes. Other contenders are Mercy Johnson who was voted fourth, Cossy, Orjiakor, Ini Edo, Oge Okoye, Ebube Nwagbo, Chioma Chukwuka, and Tonto Dike. Omotola also wears the Best Booty of Nollywood crown with 5,207 votes..

Though many keep wondering how she has continued to keep her features intact even after four children,
Omotola’s emergence as the sexiest actress in Nollywood is no surprise to many in the industry as she has continued to keep herself relevant in the industry catching up with new international trends that can make her compete favorably with actresses across the globe. Her latest movie, Ije is the longest running Nigerian movie in the cinemas.

Five years after she took her passion for music seriously by making an album, Omotola hosted a 5-star album launch for her sophomore album late last month at the Eko Hotels and Suites. The event was attended by eminent Nigerians like Aremo and Yeye Olusegun Osoba, Senator Ita-Giwa, Abba Folawiyo, Eyimofe and Dorothy Atake, Erelu Dosunmu, Grace Egbagbe, Dr soleye, Stella Damasus,Chidi Mokeme , Guy and Loraine Murray-Bruce, Zizi Cardow, Dele Momodu, Prof Pat Utomi, Freeze, Alli Baba and wife, Zik Zulu Okafor, Mr. Wanle Akinboboye, Sasha, Taofik Okoya, Tuface, Omawunmi, Kefee, Yemi sax, Jimmy Jatt, Sasha, Sound Sultan, Mike Aremu, Munachi Abii, and DJ Jimmy Jatt.

resurrected by Tony Award winning director, Bill T. Jones in a manner that makes the legend more accessible to Western audiences. For those who are unacquainted with his music or reputation for being a thorn in the flesh of military rulers and despots in Africa and around the world, this production does a lot to educate while entertaining with memorable beats and the signatory blare of the saxophone.Fela! takes the audience into the legendary nightclub “African Shrine” where the musical icon and political activist played for several years, perfecting his music and criticism of the military junta in his homeland. A biography ensues as Fela takes the crowd through his life story, his relationship with his mother, his rebellion against zombie soldiers and the origin of his style of music, Afro-beat. The performance is quite interactive with the hip-gyrating dancers filing through the theatre and Fela’s insistence of crowd participation. Brooklyn-based Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, who has been performing Fela’s music since his death in 1997, also does not disappoint.Fela! is an explosive, awe-inspiring show and perhaps the best and most original part of the production is when it explores the relationship between the musician and his accomplished mother with a backdrop of African rituals and egungun spirits. It is not too often that a musical depicting an African character makes it to Broadway and Anikulapo-Kuti comes across as a champion for the rights of his people, music as his weapon, fighting till the very end.-- Osahon Akpata (Monday, Oct. 19, 2009)Fela!, Contains spirituality and brief smoking. In English, Pidgin English and Yoruba with subtitles. At the Eugene O’Neil Theatre in previews with the official opening date set for November 23rd, 2009.
