Dare devil armed robbers who reportedly have been terrorising motorists, along the ever – busy Enugu/Onitsha expressway, have hijacked a lorry load of building materials worth millions of naira at Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State.

The Nigerian Compass gathered that on the fateful day at about 7:30a.m, when the robbers struck, they took the driver and conductor to a bush, where they were stripped naked, then their lorry loaded with the goods was driven away.

The lorry which was later recovered at Owo, in Ondo State with the items still intact, allegedly left Bridgehead Market, Onitsha for Nsukka, Enugu State, where it was hijacked at Njete, few kilometers to Awka, the state capital.

The incident came to the limelight, when the driver, early morning of the next day, in company with his conductor, went to the Njete Police Station to report the robbery.

The owner of the lorry was said to have contacted Comrade Mike Umezulike, the Chairman of a Human Right body, Fundamental Rights League International, which he belonged to, for assistance.

On spreading the development to all members of the body within the country through its security network, the Ipere-Owo Police Station, was contacted by members of the right group there and the vehicle was intercepted at Itakpe-Owo.

The recovery was said to have been possible by the description of the vehicle, type of cargo, vehicle number, colour and inscription.

A police team, led by one Inspector Samuel Eghaghe reportedly arrested the robbers with the Goods intact.

Uwazulike, who spoke on the incident, appealed to the police authorities to immediately promote the said inspector for achieving such a feat.

He revealed that the said robbers had since been transferred to Awka, for further investigation.
