The governors who met at Government House, Asaba, Sunday, stated that the President remains the most credible candidate capable of addressing the numerous challenges facing our country.
They also expressed great appreciation in the transparency of the electoral process leading to his emergence as presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a communiqué read by Chairman of the forum, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, after hours of deliberation on a number of issues of common interest particularly in the political and economic spheres, they resolved to continue to come together to pursue areas of common interest.
The meeting was attended by eight governors from the South East and South South Geo-political zones.
They include, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state who doubles as Chairman of the forum, Chief Theodore Orji of Abia State, Chief Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State as host and Senator Liyel Imoke of Cross River State
Others are Barrister Sullivan Chime, Governor of Enugu State, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State who represented the state governor and Chief Martin Elechi, Governor of Ebonyi State.
Reasons were however not made known on why some governors did not attend the Forum’s meeting, even as the governors declined to make further comments on their deliberations.
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY GOVERNORS OF THE SOUTH EAST AND SOUTH SOUTH AFTER A MEETING HELD AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE, ASABA, ON SUNDAY, 23RD JANUARY 2011.
The two zones met and deliberated on a number of issues of common interest particularly in the political and economic spheres.
At the end of the deliberations we resolved as follows:
1.That we are sincerely grateful to all Nigerians for the massive nationwide support given to President Goodluck Jonathan at the recently concluded PDP National Convention.
2.We also appreciate the transparency of the electoral process leading to his emergence as presidential candidate of PDP.
3. That the President remains the most credible candidate capable of addressing the numerous challenges facing our country.
4.Both Zones agreed to continue to come together to pursue areas of common interest.
