From Ali Abare Abubakar, Lafia

Some unidentified men at the weekend invaded the recently refurbished Nasarawa office of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and carted away the newly installed ‘Mikano’ heavy duty generator.

Policemen posted to man the centre after the theft, confirmed that the thieves overpowered their colleagues who were on duty at the office.

Information on the incident was sketchy, yesterday, as the police were not forthcoming on how two armed policemen were overpowered by the hoodlums. Even the Area Commander in charge of Lafia, Elisha Kazza, who confirmed the incident, failed to throw more light on the issue.

When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa state Command, Ephraim Amakulor, said they would not comment on the matter until properly briefed by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area.

The management committee of the NUJ, has however, expressed surprise of the theft, directing all inquiry to the government and police. It has wondered how Governor Aliyu Doma’s good gesture should be the subject of such ‘babarism’.
