A Macedonian woman living in Germany allegedly killed her husband, cut his body into pieces, and flushed them down the toilet.
So much for the British report earlier this week that said couples file en masse for divorce after spending too much time together over the holidays.
Apparently a 52-year-old woman in Dusseldorf, Germany took things several steps further. Instead of filing for divorce, she allegedly murdered her husband, chopped his body into pieces, and flushed them one by one down the toilet.
It is well-reported that crime rates, especially those of a domestic nature, often rise during holiday periods. Too much time spent together, combined with excessive use of alcohol at holiday parties, and having to deal with family members can all converge together into a violent situation.
The woman, who was born in Macedonia, and her 58-year-old taxi-driver husband had a "spiteful" marriage. Neither of their names have been released to the public.
The couple's children had reported their father missing right around Christmastime, and told police that their mother had said to them, "You won't find him, I've flushed him down the toilet."
The children had also told police that their parents' marriage had been "steeped in hatred." The woman had previously attacked her husband with a hammer and tried to poison him, though he never filed charges, according to German media sources.
When police arrived at the couple's home, they found freshly painted walls. But using technology designed to detect traces of blood, they discovered the missing man's blood on the walls and in the hallway, as well as on and in the toilet.
It is believed that the woman kept the larger pieces of her husband's body in garbage bags and attempted to leave them at a public incineration site.
She has fled Germany for Macedonia, say officials, and while an international warrant for her arrest has been issued, Macedonia does not have an extradition relationship with Germany.
Neighbors reported to police that on the night of the apparent murder, they "heard a toilet continuously flushing" all night.
