The Kaduna State government has lifted the curfew imposed on the state following the post elections violence that erupted in April, the state's Commissioner of Information, Saidiu Adamu, said on Tuesday. He said the decision to lift the 4-month curfew was reached due to the relative peace in that had returned to the state.
However, movement of motorcyclist within the Kaduna metropolis and its environs was restricted between 8.00 o' clock p.m. and 6 a.m. Adamu said the restriction was for security reasons; adding that security agents would still engage in routine checks on motorists to ensure a crime-free environment.
The information commissioner appealed to all motorcyclists to be law-abiding, saying the police and other security agencies had been directed to enforce the new rule.
Government had imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state on April 18 following the outbreak of violence following the announcement of the results of the presidential election. On May 25 the curfew was scaled down to between 11pm and 5am.
International observers said hundreds and million of properties of lives were lost while thousand were displaced.
