12166307063?profile=originalUrban Reproductive Health Initiative, NURHI, has disclosed that not less than 750,000 abortions are committed yearly in the country, bemoaning the lackadaisical attitude of the three tiers of government to family planning.

Among these women that commit abortion, 545 of them  die per 100,000 most of whom are married women whose percentage was put at 35.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Stella Akinso, State Team Leader, NURHI, and Dr. Celina Johnson at a sensitization workshop organised for various stakeholders in the helath sector in Ibadan.

NURHI with other groups such as Development Communication Network, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria and many others assembled participants to enlighten them more on safe motherhood.

The workshop which witnessed large turn out also called the attention of government to the need for disbursing money allocated to family planning to the appropriate quarters.

Some of the participants who were sourced from local governments in the state also appealed to the government to stop diverting the money meant for family planning to other concerns.

12166306695?profile=originalThis is the little boy whose headless and limbless body was found floating in the Thames ten years ago, it was claimed last night.

The five-year-old’s identity has remained a mystery after he was smuggled into Britain and murdered in a voodoo-style ritual killing.

He was drugged with a ‘black-magic’ potion and sacrificed before being thrown into the Thames, where his torso washed up next to the Globe Theatre in September 2001.

Detectives used pioneering scientific techniques to trace radioactive isotopes in his bones to his native Nigeria.

They even enlisted Nelson Mandela to appeal for information about the murder.

But they always struggled to formally identify the boy, who they called Adam, despite travelling to the West African state to try to trace his family.

Now Nigerian Joyce Osiagede, the only person to be arrested in Britain as part of the inquiry, has claimed that the boy in this picture is Adam. She said his real name is Ikpomwosa.

In an interview with ITV’s London Tonight, Mrs Osiagede said she looked after the boy in Germany for a year before travelling to Britain without him in 2001.

She claimed she handed the boy over to a man known as Bawa who later told her that he was dead and threatened to kill her unless she kept silent.

Dismembered: Detectives used pioneering scientific techniques to trace radioactive isotopes in the boy's bones to his native Nigeria

Asked directly during an interview at her home in Nigeria if the boy in the photograph is Adam, Mrs Osiagede replied: ‘Yes.’

Saying she is now willing to talk to police, she added: ‘Ikpomwosa. Baby Adam, his native name was Ikpomwosa.’

The identification is a potentially huge breakthrough for Scotland Yard detectives.

Retired Detective Chief Inspector Will O’Reilly, who led the investigation, said: ‘Without a name murders are very hard to solve. So this is a crucial starting point for us and it should lead us to who killed him.’

Clue: The only clothing on his body was this pair of orange shorts, exclusively sold in Woolworths in Germany and Austria

Sinister: Extracts of carabar bean would have left the child paralysed but conscious when his throat was cut

Police have passed numerous files on the case to the Crown Prosecution Service but it has never gone to court.

A second suspect, a Nigerian man, was arrested in Dublin in 2003 but was never charged.

Mrs Osiagede was first questioned by police after they found clothing similar to that worn by ‘Adam’ in her Glasgow tower-block flat in 2002.

The only clothing on his body was a pair of orange shorts, exclusively sold in Woolworths in Germany and Austria.

Dressed in a traditional gold and green dress, Mrs Osiagede denied any involvement with the death of the young boy. Asked who killed him, she said a ‘group of people’.

She added: ‘They used him for a ritual in the water.’

Claiming the boy was six years old, she said: ‘He was a lively boy. A very nice boy, he was also intelligent.’

Detailed analysis of a substance in the boy’s stomach was identified as a ‘black magic’ potion.

It included tiny clay pellets containing small particles of pure gold, an indication that Adam was the victim of a Muti ritual killing.

Muti murders, common in sub-Saharan Africa, are carried out in the belief that the body parts of children are sacred. Bodies are often disposed of in flowing water.

Ita-Giwa was born on 19 February 1946 in Atabong, Bakassi LGA, Cross River State, and attended the Kilburn Polytechnic in London, United Kingdom.[2] She became a nurse, then a representative for the Beecham pharmaceutical, and then moved to Standall Pharmaceutical where she represented Lagos State.[3] She married Dele Giwa, the founding editor of Newswatch magazine.[2] Her husband was killed in late 1986 with a parcel bomb.[4]

Ita-Giwa joined politics and emerged as NRC chairman for Delta State. Thereafter, she was elected a member of the federal House of Representatives 1992-93[5], and was a member of the committee on devolution of power constituent assembly 1994-95.[2] She became involved in Bakassi affairs, and earned the nickname "Mama Bakassi".[3] Ita-Giwa was elected Senator for the Cross River South constituency in April 1999 and was appointed to committees on Rules and Procedures, Environment, Foreign Affairs, Women, Niger Delta and Drug & Narcotics.[6]

After leaving the senate in 2003, she joined the People's Democratic Party PDP, and became President Olusegun Obasanjo's Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters.[4] In May 2010 there were rumors that funds were missing from the account of the Bakassi Resettlement Committee, chaired by Ita-Giwa, who asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the matter.[7]

110318_trump_gold_ap_328.jpg?width=234Donald Trump now sees himself as something of a patron saint for the birthers – and he's even released his own birth certificate as he steps up criticism of the president.

Seeking to pump more energy into the birther movement and quirky chase for the White House, Trump on Monday provided a copy of his birth certificate to the conservative website Newsmax – which has played a leading role in trumpeting birther mythology.

And in an interview on Fox News, Trump cast himself as something akin to the rebel leader of the birther movement.

“Now, this guy either has a birth certificate or he doesn’t,” Trump said. “And I didn't think this was such a big deal, but I will tell you, it’s turning out to be a very big deal because people now are calling me from all over saying, please don't give up on this issue."

Trump’s insistence that he’s being encouraged to continue on his birther crusade has led to what he says is the startling revelation that, “all of a sudden, a lot of facts are emerging and I’m starting to wonder myself whether or not [Obama] was born in this country."

Trump also called for Hawaii Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to be investigated for stating that he – as a friend of the president’s parents – remembers Obama’s birth.

"I think this guy should be investigated," Trump said. "I doubt it. He remembers when Obama was born? Give me a break! He's just trying to do something for his party."

Transcript – Excerpt
Nigeria is just like any other place
GN – Everything, every aspect of you know, human nature is in every Nigerian. The good, the bad, the ugly, it’s just like another New York. You know, Nigeria is fun to be honest. But we’re not the worst people. All we have people talking about when it comes to Nigeria is crime and fraud, and that’s just a very, very, minute number of people. Nigerians as a whole are very confident people, I believe we’re confident, I believe we’re very resourceful and we are very hospitable when it comes to visitors in the country.

PP – When you look at you’re country, what are some of the things you love about it, what are some of the things that you would like to change?

GN – I like that as Nigerians as we are, we have some sort of neighbourly love that we don’t understand, we have a way of coming to the rescue of complete strangers, we do have that bond and I think it has to do with our background and how we are raised and how Nigerians in a whole have been made to be morally. It’s like you have a moral duty to your society, to yourself, to your family so it’s like everybody’s business is everybody’s business. It’s a bad thing sometimes, but it does have its good sides. You know, so that is something that we are. We probably don’t know as a people and if we don’t know we should know it now, it’s a good thing. What I don’t like about Nigeria…man, I never diss my own country, man! You know, what ever negativity is in a country is in every other country; it’s in every other part of the world. So, the thing is everyone needs to be treated as individuals and not a collective nation. You don’t judge one person or judge one person by another persons faults. So, I just take every Nigerian the way I see them. I would never live anywhere else to be honest, no.

PP – Really?

GN – No, I grew up in Lagos, I was born, bred there. I don’t see myself leaving that town anytime soon. I can work anywhere else, but in terms of living, I’m used to Lagos, I’m sorry!

Luke Poulin met Sandra Lewis on an Internet dating site. Recently, Lewis was to join Poulin in the United States of America as his wife but she did not show up. Poulin then got a mail that Lewis had been kidnapped. TOYOSI OGUNSEYE writes that this may be another Internet scam.

Luke Poulin was eager to see the lady he had dated for over seven months. Even though he met Sandra Lewis on an Internet dating site, he had no doubt in his mind that she was his wife. He had showered her with gifts worth $80,000 throughout the period they dated and couldn't wait to be united with her.

Lewis was expected to arrive in the United States of America on March 2, 2011. That day, Poulin could not hide his excitement as he went to the airport with his mother. They got there hours before Lewis's flight was to arrive and stood there with flowers and a ring for Lewis.

After waiting for several hours and there was no sight of Lewis, the Poulins went home worried. What happened to her? Did she miss her flight? Did she fall ill? Those were some of the questions on their mind.

A few days after, Poulin who just got over a bad marriage received an electronic mail that Lewis had been kidnapped on her way to the airport in Kano. He was confused because Lewis had earlier told him that she was residing at 2BE hotel and suites, room 206, in Lagos and she was expected to depart Nigeria from the Lagos airport. What was she doing in Kano? Poulin asked himself.

In the mail, the abductors told him that they tortured Lewis and forced her to give them Poulin's e-mail address. The mail read, "Well sorry this is coming rather late. The reason is that we have a long list of people in our custody and your acclaimed wife, Sandra, has been proving stubborn but after sweet torture, she finally gave us your contact and we want to tell you that she is safe with us."

Lewis's kidnappers then went ahead to demand a ransom, "Listen we are not demanding much but we demand the ransom of just $7000. It is not compulsory you get us the money because it is not mandatory that she lives. But get this straight, if we don't have the money we won't ever release her alive. We advice (sic) you in your own interest not to talk to anyone about this, we have seen posters of her being declared missing. I want you to know that the police who you think will help you are also part of us so you can be sure it will not help if you still believe they are the ones to help you get her.

"I will advise you not to contact anybody after reading this mail; rather get to work and know how you will get the money to us. We opened this mail so we can contact you, we could have called you but we know is possible for you to trace the call. We will be waiting to read from you here on this mail. Be warned don't contact anyone again to look for her. If our reliable sources tell us you're still trying to get the kidnapper then you can be sure we will kill her and send you the photos for confirmation."

They added that they were open to negotiations. "We are very nice persons so we will welcome your negotiation. The choice is yours. Whatever you decide, mail it to us, until then we will let your wife rest well but if we don't get good response from you then I think you had better start looking for another wife because we will eliminate your Sandra."

Poulin who was terrified at this point told the kidnappers that he would be glad to pay them on the condition that they sent Lewis's pictures to him as evidence that she was alive and well in their custody.

When they sent the pictures to him, Lewis did not look like someone that was kidnapped. She was relaxed in a pool and even wore some make-up. Poulin then asked the abductors to send him the pictures of Lewis holding her passport and a current newspaper.

To that, they replied thus, "Well, we just gave you the chance to save your woman. That was the reason why we took our time to contact you to know if you are willing to save her. You can't order us around. She is not the only white hostage we have and by the time we have sorted them all out, we will just drop her off in the ocean. We could have got you what you asked but we are far from where we can get it done. This may be the last mail you will get from us; since you have proven not to be cooperative, the choice is yours. Good bye."

Poulin however stood his ground that he would only send the money if they met his conditions. While all this was going on, he got a call from one John Suton, who claimed to work with Assertion Security Services, Lagos that he could help in tracing Lewis.

Poulin's mother who monitored the exchange between her son and the kidnappers however smelt a rat. While her son was working the phones and trying to trace his lover in Nigeria, his mother wore a rueful smile suspecting that her son was a victim of a scam. She suspects that Lewis never existed and that her son has fallen victim to Internet fraudsters who pretended to be Lewis.

She says, "He told me he met her on a dating site in the summer and that he had only talked to Lewis on the Internet. She claimed to be born in England and was brought up in Halifax, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. He sent about $80,000 to her and I know he has $50,000 owed on his credit card because of this. I'm so mad at people like this. How could they break someone's heart like that? To use people at their weakest points in their life....I know my son was trying to get over a bad marriage when he got into this. He was so happy his life was turning around only to be let down again. I just don't know what else to say."

Meanwhile, Poulin, an American, was admitted in a US hospital after the incident.

Enugu : Married but yet a Prostitute

'My husband is aware I'm a prostitute in Otigba, but he'll go hungry if he stops me'

Ozioma Ubabukoh, Enugu

Otigba Street in Enugu is a known red-light district where students and non-students ply their trades at sunset. OZIOMA UBABUKOH explores the area and reports Night fall in Otigba, Enugu, is like summer season when visitors pour into the streets, ready for pleasurable moments. The hosts, with inviting cleavages and heavy backsides, dart for the best of their willing guests. Who are these guests? Joy, a mother of one, responds, "They are guys who are willing and can pay to have us all night."

pix201103260315071%5B1%5D.jpg?width=300
OTIGBA ROUNDABOUT

Better, she says, "If he can't muster the strength, or he is not financially buoyant to keep us till the next morning, then we can do short time. It all depends on the person's pocket." 'Short time' for commercial sex workers can mean quick sex, or sharp-sharp in Pidgin.

As gathered from Joy, if it is a short time deal, it could be done quickly in the client's hotel room or apartment, or in a dark corner on one of the streets off Ogui Road or Ebeano Housing Estate, which are both linked with Otigba Roundabout.

Short time, she says, can go for between N500 and N1,000 in the dark spot, and between N1,500 and N2,000 in the client's hotel room or residence.

"Sometimes we are usually scared going with the person to his house so that we don't get raped, kidnapped or used for rituals, which is why we always insist on hotels, especially when it has to be an all-night exercise.

"But when we see the prospective customer as responsible or he is known to us, we won't hesitate following him to the house," she quips.

In impeccable English, she notes, "A till-dawn deal could go for as low as N3,000 and as high as N8,000, or higher, depending on the class of the girl to the client, or her bargaining power."

Joy, a secondary school drop-out, showed our correspondent the hang-outs. "Our hang-out points are Ogui Junction and the adjoining streets around it. When you move down, you will see some us standing by the road up to Nwodo Lane, which is opposite the Fire Service. Then you get to Otigba Roundabout which is central and our meeting point," she explains.

"You can also find some of us at the other end, which are the streets that take you either into Ebeano Estate or Bisala Road on Independence Layout.

"Above all, Eight Hours, a bar at the heart of Otigba, where you cand find the majority of us, while some others tilt towards the other bars and supermarkets beside it."

Ironically, Eight Hours is situated in front of the British Council building with a message on the wall - 'Stay away from unprotected sex. AIDS no dey show for face.'

This message, however, does not seem to perturb these ladies. Virtually all of them carry a condom pack and ensure that the client uses it to protect them from HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, or pregnancy.

But why would a 25-year-old mother be involved in trading her body for money? Joy answers, "I don't have any means of livelihood and I can't go to steal, so I do this to survive."

Worse, her friend, Chinonye, who is married with two children and trades her body for money, says that Joy isn't her real name but Ezinne Ohakwe whom, she adds, is currently living with the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus, presumably acquired from the father of her child whose whereabouts is not known.

"Her child is with her mother in Mgbidi, Imo State. She had him in 2005 as a result of an affair with her boyfriend who after five years agreed to marry her. But then, the marriage did not happen as medical tests showed her to be HIV positive. The man took off when he heard it and has refused to show up for a test. Till date, nobody knows his whereabouts," Chinonye says.

She adds, "With a feeling of dejection and no means of livelihood, she started coming out to Otigba early this year (2010) and from the proceeds, she enrolled at a catering school in Achara Layout, close to Uwani, where she resides. She hopes to stop the Otigba runs when she rounds off her programme at the catering school, then get a job or start a catering business."

For Chinonye, her "evening must start at Otigba Roundabout" because her husband cannot afford to cater for her and the children.

She says, "I have been married for five years now and we live in Abakpa. If I don't do this, my children will die of hunger."

SATURDAY PUNCH traced her to where she lives on Mabia Street in Abakpa, a suburb in Enugu. The testimonies of her neighbours were shocking: her husband is aware of her activities at Otigba, but dare not question her or he will go hungry.

The Enugu State correspondent of a national daily, who lives in her neighbourhood, states, "The money she makes from the trade is what the family feeds on. Her dear husband dares not question her. Moreover, he is already a frustrated man.

"We began to monitor her activities when we noticed a change in her lifestyle. Sometime last year, we noticed that during the day, she was always at home but once night sets in, she cleans up, gets dressed and leaves the house.

"When some of her contemporaries tried to question her nocturnal activities, she simply told them she got a hotel job, which required her leaving the house in the evening. She even feigned being unhappy with the work schedule but said she had no option until she gets something better.

With her excuse, she probably succeeded in working on their minds, at least to get them to stop nosing around her. But her trick wouldn't last for long as she was given out by another neighbour, Samuel.

"I am not married and I have to keep body and soul together since I am not a wood. So once in a while, after a hard day's job as a driver of one of the Sullivan taxis, I stop by Eight Hours, the joint where most of these girls hang out while waiting for calls from men who have come to drink and unwind," Samuel says.

"Over time, I noticed that so many ladies, mostly mistaken for responsible people in Enugu, are in this business. Some even dress religiously to Eight Hours and about 11 pm, the peak time, they go into the inner bar and change into shorts, spaghetti wear, or mini and handless tops.

"So you could see a girl you know and probably think she's there for a harmless outing. You would only know her true intention if she came in company of someone, or doesn't go to stand on the road, or remains in that same dress till she leaves.

"On that fateful day, I had passed through the inner bar to urinate when I saw a girl changing from and a revealing top. I, however, became more interested when I noticed that what she wore was as good as being naked.

"I religiously tiptoed behind her, studying her moves, with the intention of having her for the night. But then I was in for surprise when she crossed to the other side of the road. She waved at potential patrons. "From the glittering street lights, I saw her face clearly and that ended my night for that day."

However, single mothers and married women alone, like Joy and Chinonye, do not form the bulk of Otigba night girls. The common culprits are students and jobless young ladies.

"It boils down to the fact that Enugu is a haven for vacation seekers and tourists. Since there are more than five higher institutions in Enugu, whenever male tourists or vacation seekers come to the city, they aim for the opposite sex to keep them company.

"When they can't easily come by any, they are directed from where they are lodged to head towards Otigba," Gift divulges.

Mincing no words, she says, "People like us who have not been to school will definitely claim studentship of one school or the order so that we don't lose out.

"I can't come all the way from PortHarcourt, and then go back empty-handed. Ordinarily, I could stay in PH and do my thing but the class there is too high; I can't fit in. Enugu is best, anyone can fit in here.

"Besides that, Enugu is best for us due to its centrality, serenity and cosmopolitan nature. People want to visit here. It is a London of its own. The noise that there is no money in Enugu is a farce because more hotels keep springing up by the day and they keep making profit.

Apart from the students of tertiary institutions in Enugu State, some of these commercial sex workers are bona fide students of Imo State University; Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State; Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Imo State; Anambra State University; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; and Ebonyi State University.

A report exclusively released to SATURDAY PUNCH by the Enugu State Police Command indicated that tertiary institutions in Enugu State which female students are prone to the increasing rate of student prostitution are Enugu State University of Science and Technology; Institute of Management and Technology; and Federal College of Education (Technical).

The report, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu "was as a result of arrests made at Otigba recently on the orders of the state government."

Amaraizu says, "The 19 girls arrested were convicted by a magistrate court and jailed for wandering and constituting nuisance to the public."

This action, according to the programme officer of Women Information Network, Miss Ijeoma Ogbonna, "has not changed anything." For Ogbonna, "It has only stopped them from standing on the road. They now crowd themselves in other bars and supermarkets."

Nneka, a part two accounting undergraduate in ESUT says "I don't enjoy doing this, but who will give me money to pay my school fees and accommodation? No one will just open his eyes and say take this money to feed or buy dresses. "I live in Ajegunle, Lagos. If not for my boyfriend who bought the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board form for me and ensured I was enrolled in a preparatory class, I wonder where I would have been.

"Most of us are from very poor homes. The very day we told our parents that we gained admission into the university, they simply told us that we were on our own. "It is a bad case for those of us who are Igbo. Our relatives, even when they have so much of money to give out, will not look your way. "It is bad to find your relatives, cousins and friends going to school while you idle away. So we have vowed that we must complete our education then say bye to this.

"Gradually, those of us who are students are leaving Otigba in droves. We now run a home service whereby our clients call us on our mobile phones whenever they want our services. artificial_cloud_blog_post.jpgQatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup by promising that its nine new open-air soccer stadiums would be air-conditioned. Now the Qataris have announced another cool twist to their hospitality -- an artificial cloud to hover above the stadium and provide shade.

The head of mechanical and industrial engineering at Qatar University said the cloud would be positioned by remote control and run on solar power.

Based on the design shown in local Qatari news outlets, the cloud isn't white and fluffy. It is flat and rectangular, resembling a giant cell phone, and will be built using light carbonic materials. Perhaps something was lost in translation from Arabic because the invention is more spaceship than cloud, but ultimately players and fans will benefit from the shade.

The cost of the cloud is $500,000, but money is no obstacle for Qatar, which is one of the world's richest countries thanks to vast natural gas and oil reserves.

There have been concerns about the heat ever since Qatar began its campaign in 2009 to pursue a World Cup. The average high for July in Qatar is 106 degrees, and temperatures have reached 120 degrees in the summer. That is one reason why Prince Ali of Jordan suggested shifting the 2022 World Cup from its traditional time in July to January, which is Qatar's coolest month with an average high of 71 degrees.

Temperatures were in the 60s for the 2010 World Cup championship match in Johannesburg, South Africa, held on July 11, between Spain and the Netherlands.

Qatar, which is roughly the size of Connecticut, will be the smallest nation to host a World Cup. The other finalists to host in 2022 were the U.S., Australia, Japan and South Korea.

The head of mechanical and industrial engineering at Qatar University announced plans this week to develop an "artificial cloud" that will be positioned in the sky to provide shade and help reduce the heat in stadiums for the 2022 World Cup. The incredible plan has made news around the world with many wondering how Qatar University could come up with such a fantastical concept. Well, it didn't. The Simpsons did.

In the legendary two-part 1995 episode entitled "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" nefarious power plant owner C. Montgomery Burns devises a plan to create a giant shield that will block the sun and keep Springfield in perpetual darkness. Springfield's wacky residents soon turn on Mr. Burns and the mystery of his shooting ensues. So, as Globoesporte points out, while Qatar may have added their own twist by making the artificial cloud remote controlled, the core idea is clearly ripped from a 16-year-old cartoon.

Even the idea of ripping off this idea isn't original, though. In 2002, South Park did an entire episode called "The Simpsons Already Did It" where Butters a.k.a. Professor Chaos plots to build a large structure to block out the sun (video clip here). But even Butters realizes the it isn't worth building once he's told that The Simpsons already did it. Apparently Qatar hasn't gotten that far yet.

The man claimed that he was pressed when the girl showed him her breasts but the victim said that he has been doing it and after the act he will give her N20.

The 55-year old Adekunle, who is a staff of Amuwo Odofin local council, was alleged to have lured the little girl inside his house and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her when his wife was not around.

The little girl was bleeding profusely before luck ran out on him, as he was caught by his daughter

“When I checked her breasts, I noticed that they were developing and I was aroused to have sex with her,” he stated.

He also claimed that he has been assisting her with money.

The victim told the police that it was not the first time Adekunle was assaulting her sexually. She said he had raped her three times and told her not to tell anyone about it. She also revealed that after the act, he gives her N20.

Mr. Bankole who was at the Bortal Remand Home, located in Adigbe area of the town to commission an Information Communication Technology(ICT) Centre he facilitated in the institution, could not hold back tears when being confronted with the bane of juvenile delinquency in the country. Apparently disturbed by the plight of the young inmates, the weeping Speaker found it difficult to address the young inmates, whose age ranges between 8-15 years.

The Speaker who expressed a desire to fully help the delinquents, noted that he wants to be fully briefed on the reform process of the students. Mr.Bankole said that with only three of the institutions in the country, he does not want to believe there are no juvenile delinquents in other parts of the country. He said the Nigerian society will be better off, if its leaders can address the ills afflicting youth at their tender stage before their attitudes are fully formed. ‘‘ICT centre is meant to give the inmates and staff, opportunity to be abreast of what is going on in the outside world as well as equip the children to fit easily into the larger society at the end of their reformation''.

The Ogun State Controller of Prison, Kunle Babalola said there are only three remand homes in Nigeria : located at Kaduna, Ilorin and Abeokuta. He said the humane nature of the Speaker must have accounted for his thoughtfulness in remembering this segment of the society for educational advancement.

Education centre

He noted that the establishment of the ICT centre is aimed at educating,

correcting and re-integrating the students into the society will be of great benefit to both the students and staff of this institution. ‘‘The ICT centre is aimed at educating, correcting and re-integrating the students into the society, and I am convinced that it will be of great benefit to both the students and staff of the institution'',Mr. Babalola stated .

The leader of the community where the institution is located, Olayinka Oyesiku commended Mr. Bankole for the project as well as the ongoing construction of Adigbe -Saraki road which is located in the community. He assured the Speaker of the community's support during the election, saying he has fully represented their interest at the Federal level through various constituency projects.

12166307078?profile=originalThe North will not fold its arms and watch President Goodluck Jonathan complete its remaining term of four years in the presidency.
Second Republic governor of Kaduna State, Lawal Kaita, who spoke to Daily Sun in Katsina, said the North remains adamant on zoning and is furious over the handling of this year’s presidential primary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Kaita says part of the game plan is to get other candidates from the North to step down for General Muhammadu Buhari.

His words: “For the first time, you will see that the people of the North have honour. It is just unlike (some) people of the South who have no honour. We entered into agreement with these,
“We have come to the general elections where the ordinary people will vote. Have you heard a Katsina man shouting ‘Sai Jonathan?’ You can never hear it.”

Kaita, who is a close associate of the erstwhile consensus presidential candidate of the Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, said the North has remained unhappy following the decision of President Jonathan to contest 2011 election, contrary to his agreement with the North. “That is why we are going to the election with everybody drawing his sword. You don’t know what is going to happen at the election. Only God knows how many people will die. We don’t pray for anything but you, as a journalist, knows how hot the country is,” Kaita, 78, stated.

He also revealed that the North is likely to throw its weight behind the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive change (CPC) and former Head of State, Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), in the April 9 poll. The highly respected septuagenarian who spoke on several issues however, said that Atiku may have put the forthcoming presidential election behind him for now.

Excerpts:

You were conspicuously absent at the PDP presidential rally in Katsina. Are you still opposed to President Jonathan’s ambition?
I don’t believe in him being the next president; I believe this, the (2011) presidency is the turn of the North. I believe this should be a Northerner’s turn, not a Southerner’s. I am not against Jonathan as a person; as a principle, I don’t welcome him.

The presidential election is around the corner, but many do not know what your close associate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has up his sleeves. What are his plans?
Leave Atiku alone as far as this election is concerned. We are talking of three weeks to election now, what can he do with that? The PDP has rigged him out, what else can he do?

Sir, the coming elections promise to be of great expectations. Do you think it is better for the North to support PDP in the presidency?
No! You see, we are fighting based on principle, it is not for something to eat; When you are fighting on principle like this, there is no reason for us to succumb or give up the fight. We will fight up to the day the election is held. We still want a Northerner to be the President; it doesn’t matter whether it is Atiku or not.

There are reported moves for the North to field a consensus candidate outside the PDP. What are the chances of such moves?
The negotiation is still on with Buhari, Shekarau and Nuhu Ridadu.

If they fail to reach a consensus, do you think any of them can defeat Jonathan?
It is going to be difficult for any of them to beat Jonathan as an individual, we agree, that is why we are fighting desperately for these people to come together; at least, for one of them to concede so that we can have our forces behind him (the consensus candidate).

What are the chances of such effort coming to fruition?
We will meet with the three of them.

On what platform are you meeting with them?
On PDP platform, I can say we are trying; we are pushing them, we have asked Emirs and chiefs to join hands with us to get all the votes of the North together. That is what we are doing; getting our votes together, which is several millions above the votes of the South.

With the support Jonathan has garnered, will it not be virtually impossible for any group or individual to stop him in the April 9 poll?
What support? What endorsement has he garnered in the North? He has come to Katsina, you were at the rally ground, his crowd was less than that of Lado Danmarke (governorship candidate of the CPC in Katsina State). And in any case, when people go to rallies, more than 50 to 60 per cent are paid agents. People were given N2,000 to come to his (Jonathan’s) rally but they will collect his N2,000 and vote for a Northerner.
I assure you, Nigerians will see a shock election of their lives. These people you have seen in his rally will take his N2,000 and will vote for the candidate of their choice.

You expressed the same confidence ahead PDP presidential primary, but we saw the power of incumbency at play against your candidate?
This is a world of difference. When the power of incumbency was at play, it was only a handful of people involved. In Katsina, there were about 200 to 300 people (delegates) whom the governor or government could corner or tie them up; they were all appointed anyway; about 90 per cent were appointed.
I know here in Katsina a day before the election, about 18 national delegates were changed, and these were chairmen of local governments and so forth.

They could be removed overnight; they know it and none of them was allowed to fill the name of the candidates he likes. The forms were filled and given to them.

Ahead the NPLF’s meeting with Buhari, Ribadu and Shekarau, who among them is your favourite?
If I have the opportunity, I will support Buhari, he is the one that definitely has the chance to win. Even now, he has an equal chance as Jonathan.

Do you entertain the fear that some of the Northern presidential candidates are being influenced by PDP to remain in the race?
How can they be influenced? They have never been in PDP any way. Shekarau was never in PDP, he is a governor in All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP). Nuhu Ribadu is a new comer; he was never in PDP. Why should I fear that PDP will influence them; because PDP has money or what?

The concern is that the plan would be aimed at splitting northerners’ votes. How do you see such fear?
That is what some people say, but what is likely to happen is that for the first time you will see that the people of the North have honour. It is just unlike the people of the South, who have no honour. We entered into agreement with these…

(Cuts in) Many Northerners are equally supporting Jonathan…
(Cuts in) Hold it, that was for the purpose of the primaries. We have come to the general elections where ordinary person will now vote. Have you heard a Katsina man shouting: “Sai Jonathan?” You will never hear it.
Even if a Katsina man says “sai Shema” hundred times, he will never say: “Sai Jonathan.” So, you people will be shocked over the (presidential) election outcome.

Are you confident that there will be free and fair elections?
Yes, I believe there will be free and fair elections. I believe Prof. Jega had been quite honest and decent; I trust him, I reason with him.

What is your message to President Jonathan?
He should not have contested in the first place. It is his intention to contest that has brought all these confusion. After all, Obasanjo contested yet, we Northerners gave him our votes to win, even though he is a Christian and a Yoruba man.

So, it is the dishonour, the dishonourable action of people that has brought the whole of this country into confusion. That is why we are going to the elections with everybody drawing his sword. You don’t know what is going to happen on that Election Day; only God knows how many people will die. We don’t pray for anything but you, as a journalist, know how hot the country is.

It is simply because of a dishonourable act. Obasanjo has done his two terms and Umaru did one term before he died, but Jonathan from the South wants the other term again. It is honourable for him to say he won’t contest again and there will be no quarrel.

Why are you rooting for Buhari?
I am not saying Buhari is better than Shekarau or he is better than Nuhu Ribadu. What I am saying is he looks set to be the best person to challenge PDP and Jonathan. So, giving him the consensus help will simply facilitate his victory.

It is not that he is better than any of the other two contenders, but he has a better structure and a better followership than the others. On individual basis, none of them has more followership than Buhari . I am Atiku’s man; 100 per cent, but I know the support for Buhari among ordinary people.

Is he doing enough to maximize the goodwill of the people?
Yes, he is everywhere. He has been to Port Harcourt, Katsina, everywhere. What can he do? He hasn’t got government’s money or machines but he is trying.

12166306480?profile=originalTHE 14th City People Awards ended abruptly yesterday, when the venue of the event, Balmoral Hall and Events Centre, Oregun, Lagos, went up in flames.

Five people were injured.

Prominent Nigerians, including Senator Florence Ita-Giwa; wife of the late business mogul, Mrs Abba Folawiyo; Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment Dr Muiz Banire and Erelu Abiola Dosunmu; among others, ran for safety when the fire emerged from the catering corner near the stage.

The event began on a bright note as guests shone in various local and foreign black attires.

Stand up comedians and musicians entertained the guests before the presentation of the awards.

Banire and Erelu Abiola were about presenting the award for Best Run Bank of the Year to Zenith Bank, when the fire began.

People rushed towards the exits and there was a stampede at the main exit.

Efforts by the waiters and some officials of City People magazine to put out the fire was unsuccessful.

By the time officials of Lagos State Fire Services arrived minutes later, the event centre had been completely razed.

An eye witness, Sam Adams, narrated how the fire started.

Adams said: "The cloth of a lady sitting near the caterer’s corner caught fire. Immediately, her friends helped her to put out the fire with a table cloth.

"They threw the table cloth away but the air blew it up and the upper part of the hall, which was made with canopies, caught fire.

"Then everybody started shouting Fire! Fire!! Fire!!!. I can’t believe that little thing led to this great disaster. It was a horrible experience." .

As at the time of filing this report, the publisher of City People magazine, Mr Seye Kehinde, could not be reached.

Yet there are 16 lesser known candidates vying for this job, pursuing a dream that has become somewhat customary for some and symbolic for others. In the 2007 presidential election, there were 22, and 19 in 2003.
photo:
Some of the little known presidential candidates: (clockwise from left) Dele Momodu (NCP), Chris Nwaokobia (LPN), Christopher Okotie (FP), Peter Nwangwu (ADC), Ndu Yahaya (ARP), Rasheed Adewale Shitta-Bey (MPPP), Patrick Utomi (SDMP) and John Dara (NTP).

Nwadike Batos Chikezie (PMP)

On the current and probably final list of the Independent National Electoral Commission, published last week, the People Mandate Party will present Nwadike Batos Chikezie as its flag bearer.

A former teacher from Anambra state, Mr. Chikezie joined politics in 1989 and served as the Administration Secretary of the defunct Peoples Front of Nigeria in old Imo State. He later moved to then Social Democratic Party (SDP) and contested as the Chairman of Nkwerre Local Government Area.

With the return to democracy in 1999, he lost the senatorial elections and later became a Special Adviser to late senate president, Chuba Okadigbo. He contested in the presidential primaries of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2007.

Now back on the hustings, Mr. Chikezie said if elected, he will pursue developmental projects and raise workers wage to a minimum of N50,000.

Peter Nwangwu (ADC)

The African Democratic Congress has Peter Nwangwu, a professor, as its flag bearer. Mr. Nwangwu hails from Anambra State too and besides training in the United States as a chemist and pharmacologist, Mr. Nwangwu wields relatively light political credentials for the highest political office in the country.

John Dara (NTP)

From the North Central state of Kwara, comes John Dara of the National Transformation Party (NTP). He once served as Special Assistant to the former Minister of Defence, Theophilus Danjuma and is a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ebiti Onoyom Ndok (UNPD)

Although three women will be running mates in the presidential contest, only Ebiti Onoyom Ndok from Cross River State is standing as a female candidate for the highest office, sustaining the one-female-in-the-contest convention that has remained since 1999. Representing the United National Party for Development, Mrs. Ndok trained in Nursing, Management, Law and Diplomatic Studies and is the chair of her party, like many of the less known candidates.

She campaigns to champion the women agenda of greater participation in leadership and also promises a minimum wage of N50,000.

Ndu Yahaya (ARP)

Besides the well-known repeated push for the presidency by former military head of state, Mr. Buhari, who has been in the contest since 2003, Ndu Yahaya of the African Renaissance Party is another top ranking contestant if judged by frequency of contest.

A lawyer and the chairman of the party, he has sustained his aspiration for years despite successive dismal performance at the polls. His party joined the ruling party, PDP, last week in rejecting the INEC's code of conduct for the approaching elections. He personally described the document as "vexatious and unnecessary". He promises an administration of mass participation if elected.

Solomon Akpona (NMDP)

Solomon Akpona, is one of four candidates from Delta State seeking the office of the president. He promises to improve the economy, upgrade power and the nation's industrial sector if elected on the platform of the National Majority Democratic Party.

Chris Nwaokobia (LPN)

Also from Delta State is Chris Nwaokobia of the Liberal Party of Nigeria. One of the youngest in the pack at 40, Mr. Nwaokobia wields more energy as a scholar - having trained as a lawyer and political scientist- than as a politician. The party pledges to attend mostly to education, energy and employment if elected.

Christopher Okotie (FP)

Renowned Pastor, Christopher Okotie, from Delta State too, returns to the contest in 2011 as a veteran candidate having attempted to win the presidency twice. In 2003, he ran on the platform of Justice Party while in 2007 he represented Fresh Party, where he remains. Mr. Okotie has repeatedly claimed divine directive to seek office.

Patrick Utomi (SDMP)

Another veteran presidential contestant is prominent economist, Patrick Utomi, who also hails from the South South state of Delta. He ran in 2007. Mr. Utomi has been a lecturer and entrepreneur, and stands as a candidate for the Social Democratic Mega Party. He promises transparency in governance, anchored on a 10-prong strategy for development.

Dele Momodu (NCP)

One of the newest in the pack is journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, of the National Conscience Party. He played a role in the campaign of the late politician Moshood Abiola, the winner of the annulled 1993 presidential elections. Besides that, he has, relatively, not been active in politics up until now.

Rasheed Adewale Shitta-Bey (MPPP)

Rasheed Adewale Shitta-Bey is a one time member of the House of Representatives during the second republic.

He was the former national chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). Mr. Shitta-Bey also led the defunct Mega Summit Movement (MSM), an alliance organised by some members of the opposition political force to oust the ruling PDP in 2011 elections. Some members of the Movement include: former head of state and the Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Mr. Buhari; former secretary to the federal government and the Alliance for Democracy presidential aspirant in 1999 general election, Olu Falae; An Afenifere chieftain, Ayo Adebanjo; and former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

Mr. Shitta-Bey who is running on the platform of the Mega Progressive Peoples Party had at a time led the newly founded alliance of opposition parties under the auspices of the Patriotic Electoral Alliance of Nigeria (PEAN). The group had once declared its support for the aspiration of President Jonathan, but the alliance collapsed on the grounds that money was, allegedly, the main object of the group.

Mahmud Mudi Waziri

He is a West African School Certificate holder who aims to rule Africa's most populous nation.

Lawson Igboanugo Aroh

Holder of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Mr. Aroh was the 2007 governorship candidate of the Peoples Progressive Party in Anambra state. He led a group of aspirants that declared their support for the victory of the Peoples' Democratic Party's candidate in that election, Andy Uba.

He said, "We hereby endorse the April 14 governorship election in Anambra State and at the same time urge our numerous supporters to seek no violence. While we are not challenging the outcome of the election, we intend to work closely with the PDP-led government to achieve relative peace, security and above all, the human and material progress of the state.

"Those who still feel aggrieved about the outcome of the election and their expectations, our advice are that there is another day and we urge them to join the reconciliation team for a better future for the state," he said.

The others

Running on the platform of the African Political System is Lawrence Makinde Adedoyin, a Mechanical Engineer. Ifeanyichukwu Godswill Nnadi, is the flagbearer of the Better Nigeria Progressive Party, and Albert Ambrose Awuru is of the Hope Democratic Party.

Frank Edoho's Marriage Break Up Latest !

Contrary to his public posture, sources have reaffirmed that celebrated presenter of must watch television programme, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Mr Frank Edoho has indeed abandoned his family. A known "Snob" according to his former neighbours in the Northern Foreshore Estate

And not only this, fresh information has it that he has also stopped providing for his broadcaster wife, Kathrine and their three children.
He is said to have adopted this stance for close to a year now.

Information has revealed that Edoho had carefully masked the development from the public based on the after effect it might have on his job.

The promoters of his claim to fame, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire had warned him about any negativity about his person rubbing off their show.

He is widely seen as the face of the show all over town. It was their insistence that made him recalled his wife in the initial celebrated bust up that the couple later denied. There were talks of replacing him as presenter

Franks Response:

Over the years that he has anchored Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, he has cracked jokes with his guests and kept them at suspense before supplying the right answers to the questions. This has made the programme interesting.12166304300?profile=original

But popular television show host, Frank Edoho, may not be in the mood to dish out jokes right now. Well, he seems to be very angry with news hunters at the moment. In fact he was said to have asked that journalists should leave his wife, Katherine alone.

we learnt that this emanated from rumours that circulated on the internet recently that the couple, who have three kids, have separated. However, a few days ago, Frank said the separation tale was not true. He insisted that his marriage is intact and that his marriage and private affairs are nobody’s business. Hear him: “There is nothing like that. I do not know where the rumour is coming from. What you need to know about me is just my career. I’m not going to tell anybody about my family life. Nobody has any right to ask me about my family.”

More:

“I read about it yesterday. It is not true at all. I am a journalist myself. My marriage and private affairs are nobody’s business. What you need to know about me is just my career, my TV show and my upcoming radio venture. For now, I’m not going to tell anybody about my family life or private life,

Those are the lamentations of Frank Edoho, the host of the popular TV show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” about the rumored separation from his wife, Katherine.

There has been a speculation that the couple was having problems with their marriage and the TV host has moved out of their matrimonial home.

Reiterating his earlier position the through a telephone conversation with news magazine, a furious Frank said:

I’m just calling you back because I’m like a colleague. The only thing I can say now is that there is nothing like that. I do not know where the rumor is coming from. Nobody has any right to ask me about my family so I am not going to answer again. I am just showing you guys respect. Many people have called me and I have told them that nothing is going on. I’m still with my family and still married to my dear wife,

Talking about the impact the malicious news is having on his wife, he said; “These journalists should just leave my wife alone; she’s undergoing too much stress. People have been calling her for like two days now and its getting to her because she’s taking care of my children. That’s all I want you to put out there,” he concluded.

9jabook is certain Frank Edoho moved out of his northern foreshore chevron drive lekki 3m per annum Luxury 4 bed Duplex late last year as from all indications from his neighbours whom he did not even tell . One morning moving trucks arrived and by evening he was gone ! His house help or house maid, relation or whoever she was had been seen that day usually with the children but the kids  all of a sudden were gone too. Edoho's wife according to neighbours and sources rarely came out of the house.

Their estate Northern foresore which has a private beachfront had put edoho in previous electricity problems as his generator was having problems in an estate where light could be off for more than a week. The estate populated by chevron and mobil staff and other highbrow personalities is notorious for having multiple 24kva generators by residents who show off their ability to run their generators for weeks without PHCN ..Edoho who had only one seemed to have been fed up with this and one day suddenly moved out .

Story according to the gravepine
The marriage of Frank Edoho, the hugely popular presenter of must watch programme, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, to Katherine, his Nigeria Television Authority employee wife is once again in crisis.

This is barely two years after the couple's celebrated bust up that was hurriedly patched up with the intervention of notable family friends and influential personalities at their work place.

Investigations conducted revealed that the current situation has reached such a level that Mr Edoho has moved out of his matrimonial home.

He is said to have discreetly secured another apartment in Victoria Garden city while his wife hold forth at the couple's abode in Lekki, Lagos.

Their three children currently reside with the wife.

Sources disclosed that Edoho abandoned home over what he labelled 'life threatening behaviour' of his wife, Katherine.

It is not clear at present what he meant by this appellation of his wife's conducts.

Information at the disposal, attributes the immediate cause of the present turmoil enveloping the Edoho's marriage to a mysterious abandonment of home by Katherine in the heat of a marital squabble.

She was said to have disappeared and remained incommunicado from her husband for four days.

She allegedly took the children with her in the mysterious journey.

Sources divulged a highly distraught Frank Edoho later learnt on the fourth day of her disappearance that she was abroad with the children!

He was said to have moved out of their matrimonial home before she returned and later secured another apartment for himself.

Efforts to make him return home to his wife are said to be meeting stiff opposition from the popular television presenter.

He is said to be insisting a wife he left at home for work, only to disappear for four days and surface in another continent is capable of doing anything to him!

The reason(s) Catherine behaved in the manner she did is not clear at press time.

It is however instructive to note that their celebrated bust up of not too long ago was as a result of wife battering allegations against Frank Edoho.

He was said to have beaten up his wife to a state of grave injury over what was later confirmed suspicion of infidelity.

The action had resulted in Katherine moving out of her matrimonial home and a breakup of the marriage- until intervention from notable family friends and influential employers.

However with Frank now moving out of the home for his wife and children -and gone ahead to secure a new home for himself, there are strong indications that the centre might not hold again in the Frank and Katherine Edoho marital union.

Investigations are still on to get a clearer picture of the crisis that is speedily collapsing the marriage by the day.

2007 Interview: How things change and how time flies Frank Go BACK TO YOUR WIFE PLEASE !

Wife contributed to his first Car !

Frank Edoho talks about his rise to fame with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

How did you become being the face of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire"?

Actually, I was called by a friend to come for an audition for "who wants to be a millionaire"? And since I had been watching the South African Version of the show which was years back, I knew the format of the show. So I said if this show is coming to Nigeria, great! But I just didn’t think that I would be the one presenting the show. I felt it would need a veteran broadcasters. So I felt the chance I had in presenting that show was like a snowball’s chance in hell, but I said hey!, let me just try. I missed the first audition, but as God would have it, the owner of the show said he still believes that there was that person out there, so they organized another audition.

What are the things you were asked to do during the screening?

Well, you go into the place and they give you a script. I didn’t know you were supposed to memorise it from outside, so I went there with the script and I was asked not to read from it and I should just present it. I started making things up but I wasn’t too impressed with my performance, but I said hey what the heck! I did it. What they were looking for was someone amiable, someone who’s natural. I’m not saying other people weren’t natural, but they were looking for a particular kind of person and I fitted that description, so I don’t see it as a special thing.

What schools did you attend and what did you specialize in?

I attended St. Louis Primary, then I went to St. Patrick’s College, Calabar, and then the University of Calabar to study Animal Science. While I was in school I made a foray into broadcasting, because I had a flair for it and that was in 1993. And since then, I’ve been into broadcasting. I was doing it side by side in school. I was doing a Radio Programme called Calabar Music Room on an A.M. Station, the A.M. Station for Cross River Radio. Then I told them that I wanted to start a programme called Block Buster on the FM Station of Cross River Radio once a week, and after that I started a television programme. There was one breakfast television show by the name, Swell Time Entertainment. We didn’t have any breakfast show as at that time in Calabar, so it came up on Saturdays and Sundays for three hours. That was what really showed me that on Radio, you work very hard on a daily basis and it could take like 3 years for someone to recognize you, but on TV, all you need to do is look nice, say the right things, make the right gestures and you are the toast of the whole vicinity, though I prefer Radio to TV actually, because Radio is my first love. I get to play great music and I get to be myself, but on TV, I have a character and I make sure that character is as natural as possible.

What were you doing before "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire"?

When I came to Lagos, I started working with DBN Television. I was at DBN Television and for that one year, I was a Cameraman, Editor, a Newscaster, News Producer, Presenter. After that, I went to Radio Nigeria, Metro FM, where I met grant people, especially the then Director General, Dr. Eddie Iroh, who brought innovation into that place and he really helped me in terms of training, diction, elocution and speech, how to project, how to attack a script and even news reading. After that, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire came along and the rest is history.

Apart from Who Went To Be A Millionaire, what else do you do?

I am an MC, I compere events all over the place.

You must really be a millionaire?

If you have one million now, it makes you a millionaire, not so? But I’m telling you, one million is not much money because if you want to buy a car, maybe it’s worth N800,000 and you have N200,000 left. But I do lots of compere, voice over, everything I do is related to the entertainment world and the voice overs improve my voice quality.

In which commercials did you do voice over?

I’m all over MTN, Intercontinental Bank, I don’t do for Telecomms Companies for obvious reasons, they are too numerous.

How were you able to clinch the deal the second time with MTN?

When it comes to that aspect, I’m not allowed to really talk about it, but I’m going to give you what I can. The former dispensation was this, we had sponsorship slots, and these slots were taken by different companies. The owner of the show. Mr. Femi Ayeni, in order to break even had put in so much work, and money and nobody wanted to plunge in the sort of money we wanted. So he said okay, let’s UBA, then Telecoms, that’s Vmobile, then we had Cowbell. And you know Cowbell cannot be there and you would have Peak, so that was what happened. Then MTN came along and said they wanted all the slots. I really commend MTN. That is what a company should do, they should say look, we want this programme, I don’t care what it takes. Abroad, they have what they call Nielsen ratings, which show companies what they should offer for TV Shows. They have a way of rating TV Shows because their system of broadcast allows one to know how many people are watching a programme. But here, it’s just based on assumption, but for a show like ours, you can only know that everybody watches the show, because of the fact that people see me and recognize me instantly. And I tell you, my face is not on billboards and they still know me, it means they are watching. And it is a mutual benefit thing; the show benefits and the company does. The then Vmobile was one of the sponsors, while MTN sponsors the whole show, so we are partnering with MTN to make sure things happen.

Where are you from?

I’m from Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, so you can call me an-Akwa-Cross indigene.

So how did you meet your wife?

I met my wife in Calabar in 1989. Of course I didn’t know she would be my wife. Then we met at DBN TV, though I had just spent two weeks. She was in a relationship that didn’t work out and I had just proposed to a girl that didn’t want to marry me, and so we hit it off together. She handles AM Express. I love her very much. If you realize what my wife went through for me, no woman can suffer like that. My wife was squatting with a friend of mine who threw us out and we had nowhere to go, but she stuck by me. She would give me all her money, my wife gave me half of the money for my first car. Sometimes couples have their troubles, but what I always remember is what she went through for me. I don’t think I can marry any other woman, so I guess I’m stuck with her. Moreover, she is a good mother to my children, she is one of the nicest people I can think of, so let this be a lesson to people who think celebrities don’t have problems, just because you see them smiling all the time. Anyway, I can only say that I’m in this one forever. You know with women, no one can predict your next reactions, so no problem.

So how do you people manage the home front, considering the nature of your jobs?

We are both Broadcasters. My wife leaves home early for AM Express. Mine is easier as sometimes, I don’t leave the house till 10, then I go meet my wife in the office to have a chat, then I go. Sometimes, I get home very late. I’m using my image to meet people, get contacts and stuffs, like that. I get MC jobs and stuff like that, so I try to mingle with my colleagues, it’s not easy but we have to balance it out.

Do you ever have time to relax?

My idea of relaxing is not doing any job but staying at home to watch Tv and playing video games. Also, I love listening to music while driving; it relaxes me. Also, I love hanging out at Barcelos, which is my favorite hangout. I’m just a regular guy, not some stuck up celebrity hanging his nose in the air.

What are your challenges as a Compere and Presenter?

Everytime before I present a show, I pray. I don’t use scripts nor teleprompters, everything I say comes from my head, and all I do I just beg God to help me and he does. And as a quiz master, you must know all pronunciations, quotations, then as a compere, I have to update my jokes and try creating a joke out of a situation and also try to make it original.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

I can’t tell you the craziest thing I’ve ever done in my University days, unless you want my marriage to crash, but I can tell you one, though I’ve not said it to anyone. On my wedding day, my wife and I weren’t talking, and when people walked up to us, we would both act the happy couple and as soon as they leave, we would continue. My mother found out and scolded the hell out of me. And the funny thing about it is that I can’t remember what actually caused the friction.

How do you feel being the popular Frank Edoho?

I don’t have the right to do anything I want. Sometime ago on the Island, one area boy tapped on my door and started raining abuses on me just because I wouldn’t give him money. If it was the Frank Edoho of that time. I would have raised him 5ft in the air. As a matter of fact, when the guy was talking to me, I wanted to talk back at him but one family just drove past waving at me and I had to wave back smiling.

How long will the show last?

The show is just going on. That of Vmobile lasted for two years, but this time, I don’t know, we are trying to make it great. The Executive Producer, Mr. Femi Ayeni is trying to improve on the quality of the show in terms of equipment, location etc.

Who are your role models?

In terms of presentations Ruth Benamesia-Opia, Adesuwa Onyenokwe, my wife, whom I feel is a better presenter than I am. For men, Sunny Irabor, Uncle Femi Sowoolu. In terms of MC, Basorge Tariah Jnr. Is great, he actually taught me. I admire Basket Mouth, while A.Y. is just a stupid boy in terms of comedy. The MD of Access Bank Aigboje Aig Imokhuede and his Assistant, Herbert Wigwe, those two have achieved, they have no qualms about it. They are not going about it as if they have done anything, they wish to achieve more.

In my books, Buhari is a pretentious anti-corruption fighter. The trajectory of a man's journey in public life matters. For the follwoing reasons I can not vote for Buhari

1. He is an oligarch who does not believe in equality before the law. The way he jailed Lateef Jakande, Jim Nwobodo, Ambrose Ali, Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ayo Ojewumi on cases that had no foundation and allowed Awwal Ibrahim, the then Niger State governor, who was arrested in Heathrow Airport in London with 14 million pounds sterling and several millions of Niara and dollars to be under house arrest is my evidence. He also allowed Shehu Kangiwa, Sokoto State Governor who conducted and supervised the famous Bakolori Massacre of poor peasant farmers whose land were appropriated without compesation to remain under house arrest.

1(a) Ayo Ojewumi became blind as a result of his imprisonment over false charges and died shortly after.

1 (b) Prof. Ambrose Alli also became blind as a result of this false imprisonment. When he died, he had only one undeveloped plot of land to his name.

1© Pa Adekule Ajasin was never the same after his eventual release and remained sickly for the rest of his life. Whe he died, he never had any property anywhere in the world except the one he had built from his sweat as long term teacher and school principal in Owo township.

2. He put in place a retroactive law that killed three men, innocent men in my book, by public execution. He left untouched an alleged well known drug baron in Ibrahim Babangida who later overthrew his government.

3. He jailed Ndukar Irabor and Tunde Thompson of the Guardian on stories that were factually true under Decree 4. He had told the Nigerian journalists then that it did not matter whether the story reported was true or not,

4. He supervised the smuggling of 53 suitcases filled with cash througth the MMA against the protests of General Tunde Idiagbon and ironically, Abubakar Atiku, the then Director General of the Customs who later became the Vice President and a compromised politician himself. This smuggling of the suit cases were supervised by his ADC, Col. Mustapha Jokolo.

5. He jailed Fela Anikulapo -Kuti on trumped up charges under emergency law which prompted the sentencing judge to confess that he was ordered to do so and apologised to the late musician. It was Buhari's administration that said it has "decided to deal with this Fela problem once and for all."

6. He convinced all the northern political leaders against allowing the National Identity Card program because according to him, this would unravel the myth of Northern population majority

7. He is an Islamic fundamentalist, the Bin Laden of Nigeria, who told his northern followers never to vote for anyone who was not a muslim.

8. He is a coup plotter.

9. He has never been able to account to Nigerians what he did with the 20 billion Naira of the Petroleum Trust Fund of which he was the chairman under Sani Abacha.

9(a) He has not been able to point to any project that he prosecuted outside the Northern Nigeria with the so-caled trust fund.

10. He was in full support of all the atrocities of Sani Abacha against the Nigerian people. There is no single record of his criticism of Sani Abacha during those dark days when Nigeria was on precipice. It shows that he is a patriot of convenience and as such unfit to lead the country.

11. Buhari, as part of his tribalistic practices placed President Shagari under house arrest inside a palatia mansion in Ikoyi while he locked up Shagari's Vice, Alex Ekwueme in Kirikiri Prison. Shagari is Hausa/Fulani like him while Alex Ekwueme is an Igboman.

12. Ikemba Emeka Ojukwu, another Igboman who returned from 13years exile just a little over a year then was as well locked up in Kiri Kiri Prison by meanhearted Buhari.Up till today we are not told what was Emeka's offence.

13. Busari Adelakun died of ulcer because Buhari refused him to be taken out of prison for immediate medical attention. The then Governor of Ogun State,Bisi Onabanjo suffered similar fate which we were told led to his untimely death.

14. Buhari ransacked the house of our late sage, Obafemi Awolowo and confisticated his International passport. Which civilized democratic society would elect the likes of Buhari as President, the same individual who overthrew an elected President? Never!

15. Plus Buhari having Sam Mbakwe in jail, went for one of Mbakwe's wives. He established himself again for what he was/is letting Mbakwe receive in jailhouse news of the death of another of Mbakwe's two wives. One (I can't remember his name now; Odenigbo?) also died in jail.

16. Buhari's henchman and sponsor, CPC governorship candidate for Kano State, is Mohammed Abacha, the same person that had/ran a personal killing squad, co ordinated the killing of Kudirat Abiola & attempted to kill Ibru; and also stashed money in underground tanks, all less than 13 years ago....Nigerians have very short selective memory. Shame!

17. Buhari discriminated against persons from other ethnic groups/faiths; and that as PTF Chairman, he employed an overwhelming number of Fulani/Hausa/Moslem people at the detriment of other groups and concentrated PTF projects in the North. If in doubt read El Rufai's testimony where he wrote about Katsina boys who used the money they made at PTF to bankroll Yar'Adua's election in 1999.

18. Buhari is unforgiven. When he "took over" by coup in 1983, even remembered an article written a very very long time ago by Bisi Onabanjo ('The Mallams are coming') and a later one in which Onabanjo wrote that people should watch out for that "gangly officer from the north" after Buhari gave a no holds barred speech at some Army function where he was reported to be very openly pro Fulani and pro Islam to the exclusive of all else and also talked about termination of democratic rule. For that, Onabanjo got one of the harshest jail terms and treatments.

19. Buhari intolerance is worse than Obasanjo's. When he was adopted as the ANPP's candidate on the night of the party's Primaries without prior warning to the other candidates and a few of them protested, Buhari got up and made a speech that those people must be disciplined. I subsequently saw him on BBC's "hard talk" and he frightened me and the interviewer with his archaic and fundamentalist intolerant views. His understanding and articulation is very much in doubt.

20. The evil genius, IBB and his crew similarly ran rings around Buhari. On the 10th anniversary of Abacha's demise, Buhari said that Abacha stole nothing from Nigeria! Despite millions of Dollars recovered from banks around the world and the Abacha family signing a formal agreement to return over $1 billion dollars, Buhari still said that Abacha's stealing remains an unproved allegation!!!! Why? Because Abacha set Buhari up like an emperor and let him use oil money from the Niger Delta to develop the North without supervision or questions.

21. Buhari snubbed the same Nigerians he now wants their votes by refusing to appear before Justice Oputa Truth and Reconciliation Panel. Despite the fact that Buhari knew how inportant reconciliation is to the stability of democracy. Buhari has never apologised at anytime.

22. Buhari executed Lawal Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26). To put it quite plainly, one of those three – Ogedengbe - was executed for a crime that did not carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed. and At the time Ogedengbe committed the crime it did not carry that punishment. If we must live as civilised citizens we must go by the rules. Article 11.2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reads: "No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission WHICH DID NOT CONSTITUTE A PENAL OFFENCE, under national or international law at the time when it was committed. NOR SHALL A HEAVIER PUNISHMENT BE IMPOSED THAN THE ONE THAT WAS APPLICABLE AT THE TIME THE PENAL OFFENCE WAS COMMITTED. Killing people with retroactive laws is not the civilised thing to do - and for as long as we will have people who refuse to see the truth only because their heroes are inching to rule when they have not purged themselves we will continue to wallow in misery.

If Nigerians reward dangerous, insensitive, dishonest, mean, cruel, partial, egoistic, religious, fundamendalist, conscienceless human being like MOHAMMADU BUHARI with the presidency of Nigeria with his kind of track record, then why do we still wonder why Nigeria has not and will not make it?

I can not in good conscience support Buhari's candidacy on the above grounds. I wish we have intelligent people who know what democracy means. I wish we have civilized minds. However, I am 100 percent sure that Buhari will never again rule Nigeria.

For the good of Nigeria, vote any other candidate, but SAY NO TO BUHARI!!!
