The anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria reached a feverish pitch on Friday when its Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke(SAN) filed charges against Maizube Holdings Limited, a company owned by a former Head of State, Gen. Abdulasalami Abubakar and 14 others.

The others include Adeyanju Bodunde, who was a former Personal Assistant to ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo; a former Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; and Bilfinger Berger GMBH.

Others are AVM Abdullahi Dominic Bello; Mohammed Gidado Bakare; Urban Shelter Limited; Intercellular Nigeria Limited; Sherwood Petroleum Limited; Tri-Star Investment Limited; TSKJ Nigeria Limited-(a) Technip S.A.; (b)Snamprogetti Netherlands B.V. (c) Kellog Brown and Root Inc(d) Japan Gasoline Corporation of Japan.

The suspects will be tried at both the Federal High Court Abuja and in the High Court of Justice of the Federal Capital Territory .

Although the suspect central to the bribery scandal(Jeffrey Tesler) is at large, the Federal Government is determined to prosecute all those implicated.

The prosecutors of the suspects are Mr. J.B. Daudu(SAN), who recently emerged as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA); E. C. Ukala(SAN); and G.O. Obla FCI Arb

Allegations against some of the suspects are as follows:

  • That you, George Mark, Jeffrey Tesler(now at large), Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH, sometimes between 2002 and 2003 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court conspired among yourselves to make several cash payments in the sum of US$1million(five times) totaling in equivalent the sum of $5million to one Adeyanju Bodunde and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 16 of the Money Laundering Act 1995(as saved by Section 23(2) of the Money Laundering Act 2004) and punishable under Section 15(2) and (3) of the Money Laundering Act 1995(as saved by Section 23(2) of the Money Laundering Act, 2004).
  • That George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH and Adeyanju Bodunde sometimes between 2002 and 2003 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court conspired among yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit: failing to report several cash payments totaling in equivalent the sum of $5million by one Jeffrey Tesler(now at large) ; thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 16 and punishable under Section 15(2) and (3) of the Money Laundering Act 1995.
  • That all the six suspects sometimes between 2002 and 2003 did make several payments totaling in equivalent $5million to one Adeyanju Bodunde and thereby committed an offence contrary to Sections 1 and 15(d) of the Money Laundering Act 1995(as saved by Section 23(2) of the Money Laundering Act 2004) and punishable under Section 15(2) and (3) of the Money Laundering Act 1995(as saved by Section 23(2) of the Money Laundering Act, 2004).
  • That you Adeyanju Bodunde sometimes between 2002 and 2003 did accept several cash payments in the sum of $5milion($1m in five tranches) from George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH and thereby committed an offence contrary to 1 and 15(d) of the Money Laundering Act 1995(as saved by Section 23(2) of the Money Laundering Act 2004) and punishable under Section 15(2) and (3) of the Money Laundering Act 1995(as saved by Section 23(2) of the Money Laundering Act, 2004).
  • That you George Mark, Jefferey Tesler(now at large), Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH did transfer several sums of money received from one Jeffrey Tesler in the sum of $5million to one Adeyanju Bodunde in Nigeria, to wit did conceal and transfer to a nominee knowing that it constitutes proceeds of a criminal conduct and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 16 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(Establishment) Act 2002.
  • That you George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH conspired among yourselves to do an illegal act to wit: corruptly procuring and transferring cash payments amounting to $5million on behalf of one Jefferey Tesler (now at large), to one Adeyanju Bodunde, Personal Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, CAP C38 LFN, 2004.
  • That you George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH did for and on behalf of one Jefferey Tesler (now at large) did corruptly procure and transfer $5million to one Adeyanju Bodunde, Personal Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 98A of the criminal Code CAP C38 LFN, 2004.
  • That you Adeyanju Bodunde sometimes between 2002 and 2003 while being a public official and in your capacity as the Personal Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria corruptly asked for and received several cash payments in the sum of $5million from one George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH for and on behalf of one Jeffrey Tesler(now at large) thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 98B of the criminal Code CAP C38 LFN, 2004.
  • That you Adeyanju Bodunde sometimes between 2002 and 2003 while being a public official and in your capacity as the Personal Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria accept several cash amounting to $5million from one George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH for and on behalf of one Jeffrey Tesler(now at large) , being a reward beyond your proper pay and emoluments, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 98B of the criminal Code CAP C38 LFN, 2004.
  • That you George Mark, Hans George Christ, Heinrich J. Stockhausen; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Bilfinger Berger GMBH did make for yourselves and on behalf of one Jefferey Tesler(now at large) several cash payments in the sum of $5million to one Adeyanju Bodunde, personal Assistant to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the purpose of financing the activities of a political party in Nigeria thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 38(2) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act CAP. C20 LFN 2004..

Jos killings Sponsored, suspects tell police

Jos: We were sponsored, suspects tell police Jude Owuamanam The Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, has said that some "faceless influential persons" are behind the March 7 killings in three villages of Shen district in Jos South Local Government Area of the state... advertisement Aduba, who briefed the press on the latest development in the state, said that confessional statements extracted from the suspects indicated that while some of them volunteered to take part in the massacre, others had influential sponsors. The commissioner said, "Our joint efforts after the said incident of March 7, 2010, had yielded good results wherein some 200 people were arrested. They cut across two categories of offences. "The first category comprises some 49 Fulani who were arrested immediately after the incident of Dogo Na Hauwa, and in their various statements (they) owned up that they carried out the invasion and killings in the aforesaid villages. "They further stated that they were on a revenge mission, being a fall-out of the event of January 2010 whereupon some villages, namely Tim-Tim, Von and Kuru-Jenta were attacked and some of their inhabitants and cattle destroyed. "Investigations have also revealed that some of the Fulani were paid while some were volunteers, but so far, they have not revealed the identities of their chief sponsors. "The second category was made up of 151 people arrested at Mangu and other surrounding villages for the offences of unlawful assembly. "Investigations have further revealed that they took the laws into their hands by taking up arms in apparent defence of their communities against possible reprisal attacks." Aduba said that some of the weapons recovered from the suspects included four double-barrelled guns, 35 single-barrelled shotguns, two locally-made double-barrelled guns, three locally-made single-barrelled pistols, making a total of 44. He added that five 9mm ammunition, five AK-47 ammunition and 35 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects. Other weapons recovered from the suspects, the acting commissioner said, included 26 bows and arrows, 14 machetes, 12 knives, three axes, four spears, charms and 129 swords. Aduba also said that a body count of those given mass burial showed that they were 70, made up of 12 males, 26 female children, 19 female adults and 16 male adults. He said 18 were privately buried at Barkin Ladi, 12 by relatives at Dogo Na Hauwa and nine others died in the course of treatment at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital. He said that the dead were from four villages of Dogo Na Hauwa, Zot, Ratsat and Kutgot. Meanwhile, a group, the Joint Revolutionary Council of Niger Delta, has condemned the killings of innocent people in Jos. The group, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Mr. Bakabio Walter, and made available to THE PUNCH, said the tragedy was a reminder of the "severity of internal colonialism in the entity called Nigeria." It said, "How can we explain that the Nigerian military, led by the Fulani aristocracy, was informed of plans by Fulani militants to invade indigenous settlements in Jos and environs, yet there was no response. This is totally unacceptable and must be condemned by all genuine advocates of peace and justice. "This is a litmus test for the Jonathan administration. The sack of Nigeria's National Security Adviser who used his inaction to support the Jos massacre might be a welcome development but it is definitely not enough. No amount of soldiers sent to Jos can bring an end to this conflict. "If the Jonathan administration is committed to resolving the recurring ethnic violence in Jos, Niger Delta etc, the only logical thing to do is to convene a Sovereign National Conference of all the ethnic nationalities that were forcefully conscripted into Nigeria. "However, we wish to state in unambiguous terms that our mission is to achieve independence for a Niger Delta Federation and not to seek relevance for the sake of patronage. We shall continue to strike until we achieve our ultimate goal. "We note with curiosity, the continuous denial of knowledge of our attack on oil installations by the management of Shell and Agip and the Joint Task Force. "No amount of money you give to them will prevent us from striking you more. Our actions will be sustained and will differentiate us from the criminal pretenders who are negotiating currently with the management of Agip.

Pa Soludo: Police arrest suspects

•We are happy, but sober, says family Anambra state Police Command yesterday said some people had been arrested in connection with the kidnap of Pa Simeon Soludo, the 78-year-old father of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the February 6, 2010 governorship elections in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, who was released Wednesday night by those who abducted him from his family house about 10 days ago. advertisement But a deputy Commissioner of Police in the Command, Mr. Oshodi Glover, told journalists at the Soludo family house in Isuofia that the command was still working on the matter and would like to be discreet about it at the moment. “Please, don't let me reveal anything yet. There will be time for that and not now,” he said. Oshodi, who was accompanied by Mr. Chris Ezike, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Inspector General of Police's monitoring team, however denied knowledge of any ransom paid. This came as the Soludo family expressed gratitude to God for the release of their patriarch, saying they were happy but sober. They also took a swipe at the insinuation that they masterminded the kidnap adding that anybody peddling such is cursed. Meanwhile, the Soludo Campaign Organisation, yesterday evening in a statement signed by Dom Obiekie ,said it was relieved to receive information that Pa Soludo had been released and thanked Anambra people for their concerns while the man was held in captivity for 10 days. The statement read in part: “the Soludo Campaign Organisation was relieved and delighted to receive information from the Divisional Police Officer in Aguata local government area, Mr. Samuel Dang, who announced that the 78 year old Pa Simeon Soludo, has been released by the kidnappers who have kept him in captivity for 10 days. “According to the police, he was released around 10pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 along the Uga Road in Aguata. Pa Soludo, father of the PDP governorship candidate for the Anambra State 2010 election Professor Chukwuma Soludo is now undergoing medical examination to ascertain his health condition following the physical, psychological and emotional trauma which he experienced in the course of the unfortunate incident. “After his medical examination and treatment, the Soludo family would have a quiet reunion with their patriarch. There would be no formal briefings. “Meanwhile, we acknowledge with thanks, the concerns shown by individuals and groups, including friends, well-wishers, associates and the media during this trying moments.”
