Ten SANs to probe CJN, Salami

10 SANs to probe CJN, Salami

By DAYO BENSON, CLIFFORD NDUJIHE, DAPO AKINREFON & IKECHUKWU NNOCHIRI

LAGOS-THE Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, yesterday constituted a 13-man committee, comprising 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, to probe allegations of corruption levelled against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami.

This came even as leading lawyers in the country were divided on what would be the fate of Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Rauf Aregbesola of Osun; if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP's allegations that the court decisions that brought them power were fraudulently obtained.

In the face-off between Justice Salami and Justice Katsina-Alu, the President of the Court of Appeal had accused the Chief Justice of asking him to compromise in the Sokoto gubernatorial appeal case before the appellate court.

Empowering of committee

The NBA which has vowed to get to the root of the matter, empowered the committee to take a holistic appraisal of the debilitating corruption eating into and corroding the entire judicial system, as well as to fish out legal practitioners that promote corruption in varieties of ways in the system.

NBA National President, Joseph Bodunrin Daudu, SAN, said in a statement in Abuja: "Pursuant to the resolution of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association made at Awka, Anambra State on February 17, 2011, I have, in my capacity as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, been directed to set up a high_powered committee to investigate and report back to NBA_NEC the following:

"CJN/PCA face_off, debilitating corruption eating into and corroding the entire judicial system and legal practitioners who promote corruption in a variety of ways in the system.

"In compliance with the said NEC directives/resolution, I hereby appoint the following eminent persons as members of the above described NBA committee. They are: Chief T.J.O. Okpoko, SAN, Chairman; Chief Bamidele Aiku, SAN; Mr. Idowu Sofola, SAN; Dr. S.S. Ameh, SAN; Mr. O.C.J. Okocha, SAN; Mr. E.J.J. Toro, SAN; Chief Assam. Assam, SAN; Professor G. O. Olawoyin, SAN; Mr. Marcus Yarkasuwa Saleh, SAN' Mr. Obi Ulasi, SAN; Alhaji M. U. Ibrahim, and Mrs. Stella Ugboma as members, while Mr. Ebenezer Obeya will serve as the secretary.

NBA secretariat on high alert

"The Secretariat of the NBA has been put on high alert to ensure that the activities of the committee proceeds unhindered. Finally, the Chairman of the committee will as expeditiously as possible fix a date (preferably within this week) for a commencement of the committee's activities.

The committee will regulate its activities and within the shortest possible time, submit its report to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, who will in turn forward it to NEC/NBA for it to deal with as it pleases."

It will be recalled that it was only last week that the Appeal Court President, Salami, withdrew a legal action he instituted against the CJN before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Though he premised his decision on "the intervention of well meaning Nigerians and stakeholders in the justice sector," NBA insisted that it would investigate the authenticity of the facts personally deposed to by the litigant in an affidavit he filed in support of the withdrawn suit.

On petitions filed by the PDP against Justice Salami, while most of the lawyers said the court judgments could not be overturned because the Court of Appeal was the last court for governorship and National Assembly polls petitions before the last constitution amendment, others contended that a court of higher authority could order a retrial of the cases.

However, they all deplored the raging scandals ravaging the judiciary and urged high-powered probe and sanctioning of those found culpable.

PDP petition

The PDP in Osun and Ekiti had in a letter dated February 16, 2011 asked security agencies and the National Judicial Council, NJC, to unravel the purport of alleged inappropriate communications between President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami and leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and their lawyers, which they alleged influenced the judgements which brought AC governorship candidates to power in Ekiti and Osun States in October 15 and November 26, 2010 respectively.

Before the judgments the PDP had the governors of both states (Segun Oni, Ekiti; and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Osun).

Speaking on the allegations in petitions against Justice Salami by the PDP, Mr. Bamidele Aturu said Nigerians were in interesting times with the political elite heating up the polity.

However, as per the law that guided the 2007 governorship election, he noted: "Once the Court of Appeal has given a judgment there is nothing anybody can do about it. The decision on Ekiti and Osun is final but if the justices are found culpable, they can be dealt with individually."

Decrying the deteriorating rot in the judiciary, he canvassed "a wholesale probe of the Judiciary," saying: "Let's look at the issues, let the EFCC and ICPC get busy, get to the bottom of the allegations and prosecute those found culpable. If the allegations are frivolous, the people peddling them should be dealt with."

Speaking in like manner, Chief Ayo Adebanjo lamented that the rumour had been on for while and urged purification of the Judiciary to save the country.

"The rumour has been going on for sometime. That is why I said there should be an inquiry. They should set up a panel made up of competent retired judges to look into the matter.

There should be a process to purify the Judiciary otherwise we are finished in this country because the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man."

On what would happen if indeed the judgments were fraudulently obtained, Adebanjo said much would depend on the findings of the investigating panel.

Fraudulent judgment

He contended: "If the judgment is fraudulent, they can order for a retrial. Although, there is no appeal on governorship election after the Court of Appeal, when they discover that the judgement is fraudulent, a court of higher authority can order a retrial."

In his reaction, constitutional lawyer, Prof Itse Sagay, rose in defence of President of the Court of Appeal Justice Ayo Salami, saying that those who have accused him of compromising in Osun and Ekiti states governorship appeal petitions should provide evidence just as he stated that Justice Salami was incorruptible Prof Sagay who spoke against the background of the petitions noted that since the Court of Appeal was the final court in appeal in governorship petition, (prior to recent amendments of the 1999 constitution) the judgment in the two cases could not be tampered with by any other court.

He said that any person in the position of President of Court of Appeal or Chief Justice of Nigeria has a lot of interaction with lawyers and such exchanges certainly have nothing to do with the cases before them.

Sagay said: "In any case, Justice Salami is not the type of judge anyone can corrupt. So those who are making the allegation that he might have been compromised should come forward with their evidence. He stated that Justice Salami was not a member of appeal panel in Osun governorship election petition, so the issue of being compromised does not arise.

Court of Appeal upturning itself

"It is impossible for the Court of Appeal to upturn itself. The Court of Appeal is the final Court of Appeal on governorship petition cases and its decision is final. You cannot go against it for whatsoever reasons.

Its decision cannot be set aside by any court, that matter is finished permanently. Let me put it this way, personally, it is impossible for Justice Salami to be involved in any case of perversion of justice.

"Let me also put in hypothetical manner. Supposing Justices of the Court of Appeal are influenced into giving decisions on the governorship petition, which amounts to perversion of justice, I want to put it in that general way. When it comes to election matters as relating to a governor, the Court of Appeal is the final court in that matter; but once you establish a case of perversion of justice or corruption, if you make a case or a petition, it will be investigated. If the case is established upon investigation, such judges will be removed."

A prominent Lagos lawyer who preferred anonymity argued that some of the lawyers mentioned in the petition appeared for both PDP and ACN candidates. In their petitions, it was possible they had telephone exchanges with some of the judges involved. He, however, asked on whose behalf such conversations were made adding: "Were such calls made on behalf of PDP or ACN candidates?"

According to him, Lateef Fagbemi SAN was counsel to both former Governor Olusegun Agagu and Governor Rotimi Amechi; Yusuff Ali, SAN was counsel to Governor Fayemi and former Governor Olagonsoye Oyinlola ; Niyi Akintola, SAN was counsel to Agagu and Fayemi; He said Emeka Ngige SAN was mentioned because he is a younger brother of Chris Ngige, a chieftain of ACN.

Abuja based lawyer, Ugochukwu Osuagwu in his contribution said: "I am aware that Justice Salami was queried by the NJC over allegations that he compromised standard in the Ekiti State governorship appeal. The truth is that he is a civil servant under the employ of the Federal Government and should, therefore, be held accountable over any allegation of misdemeanour raised against him.

As a civil servant, procedures laid down under the civil service should apply to him, which I think the NJC should enforce. The underlying controversies should equally be looked into, maybe he has declined to respond to the query due to pending cases in Court or there could be other reasons as well.

Nobody is beyond reproach; if the NJC can furnish enough evidence against him then he can be sanctions with or without his response. Until the allegations are proved he should be deemed innocent. We must be very careful in accepting every allegation against judicial officers or judge's especially when politicians make them."

Chief Nkereuwem Akpan, Human Rights Activist, said "the NJC is statutorily enamoured with powers to investigate and if need be sanction erring judicial officers. We are told that it was the intervention of the NJC that prevailed on justice Salami to discontinue his suit against CJN.

Now because the CJN is the chairman of the NJC and with the sordid, disgraceful and embarrassing allegations and counter allegations flying all over the place from both sides, who will chair the NJC during the hearings as the CJN cannot be a judge in his own case. Sadly, one of these respected jurists is not telling the truth and that is how low our judiciary has sunk, most regrettably.

ACN's reaction

ACN in its own reaction warned the PDP and the colluding top federal government officials not to throw Nigeria into an avoidable crisis over their desperation to reverse the Appeal Court judgements on the Ekiti and Osun governorship election petitions."

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the Appeal Court judgments in the cases are final, irrespective of what the ousted usurper governors are being told by their starry_eyed advisers or the buttons they are pressing at the Federal Government level.

''Despite the clandestine meetings in the highest echelon of the PDP and also involving some top officials of the federal government, the PDP cannot re_write the Nigerian Constitution just because the rulings in these cases did not favour them.

Heavens did not fall when other parties lost to the PDP in many other election petition cases. And heavens will not fall now that the PDP has lost the cases in Ekiti and Osun, where the rigging party did not win anyway."

''As we said earlier, the cases are not final because they are infallible, but they are infallible because they are final. The sooner the PDP understands this, the better for everyone.

There is no point trying to bring down the entire judiciary just because they lost cases they could not have won, on the strength of the available evidence,'' it said.

ACN warned, however, that should the PDP think it can re_open the cases and overturn the judgements, then it should be ready for an epic battle, the end of which no one can predict, and the consequences of which can only be imagined.

''We have the strength of character, the courage and the conviction to mount a sustained campaign in defence of justice, and in defence of our mandate. We will not surrender a mandate freely given to us by the people, which was evident in the massive jubilation that greeted the rulings of the Appeal Court in both Ekiti and Osun states,'' the party said.

Commenting on the MTN call logs insinuating a deal between ACN chieftains/lawyers and Justice Ayo Salami, as contained in the petitions by Messrs Segun Oni and Osun PDP chieftain, Sunday Ojo_Williams, the party dismissed them as ''selective perception'', designed to muddle the waters.

It said: ''If the petitioners and their sponsors want to really convince Nigerians about their allegations, they should be courageous enough to publish all the call logs of Justice Salami during the period in question, so that all can see all the calls that Justice Salami received during the period.

''The fact that Justice Salami is the President of the Court of Appeal does not mean he will not have a social life, or that people can no longer call him. Can't his friends, acquaintances or others even call to invite him to social sessions like weddings, birthdays and burials? Do such calls _ even if they are from party members _ automatically translate to seeking undue favour? Why publish only calls from a few people when all the call logs during that period should have been published for all to see? This selective perception will not help the petitioners in their lost cause,'' ACN said.

Texas varsities to allow students to carry guns on campus

Agency Reporter

USA- Universities in Texas are set to be forced to allow students and academics to carry guns on campus, in a victory for a firearms lobby unbowed after last month's massacre in Arizona, the Telegraph reports.

A new law that looks certain to pass through the Texas legislature would mean that its 38 public colleges, which are attended by half a million students, must permit concealed handguns on site.

It would become only the second state, after Utah, to enforce such a rule.

More than 20 states have rejected similar proposals introduced since the Virginia Tech massacre in April 2007.

At present, colleges in Texas - along with churches and businesses - are free to ban firearms from their premises. Guns are prohibited from university buildings, dormitories and surrounding grounds.

The plan is likely to astonish most who recall the mass shootings at Virginia Tech, where a student killed 32 people, and in Northern Illinois the following year, where five people were murdered.

It also comes just six weeks after six people were killed and 13, including the United States Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, were wounded during a shooting spree in a supermarket car park in Tucson, Arizona.

Texas for Gun-free Schools, a group campaigning against the measure, said that it was supported by only one in four Texans and just 15 per cent of students.

"Guns do not belong in classrooms, and the incredibly low violent crime rate on college campuses demonstrates the success of this policy," the group said.

While the plan provoked anger among opponents, supporters said that allowing everyone to carry a hidden weapon was the only way to prevent more massacres...

"It's strictly a matter of self-defence," said Jeff Wentworth, a Republican state senator. "I don't ever want to see repeated on a Texas college campus what happened at Virginia Tech." "Some deranged, suicidal madman goes into a building and is able to pick off totally defenceless kids like sitting ducks."

Before Virginia Tech, the University of Texas was the site of America's worst college shooting, when a student killed 16 people and wounded dozens more in August 1966.

Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, a pro-gun group, said crime rates at universities in Colorado had dropped since the state allowed them to permit guns on campus.

South Africa deports 27 Nigerians

By Wole Shadare

TWENTY-SEVEN Nigerians were yesterday deported to the country from South Africa.

The deportees were brought into the country in a chartered plane marked ZS-GAT with flight number GBB130, which touched down at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport at noon.

According to Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) sources, the 27 deportees - 26 males and one female - were expelled from South Africa back into the country based on immigrations-related offences.

South African law enforcement agents accompanied the deportees on the flight back home.

They were handed over to NIS officials and other Nigerian law enforcement agents who were on ground to receive the deportees.

Yesterday deportation brought the number of Nigerians deported to the country in the last one week to about 200.

Daily deportation of Nigerians from across the globe has become a recurrent decimal at the Lagos airport, a situation that has been giving Immigration officials tough time.

Nigerians have also been deported recently from a number of African and European countries, including Spain and Libya.

Governorship election may not hold in five states this April following a ruling by a federal high court in Abuja, yesterday, extending the tenure of the incumbent governors. Presiding judge, Adamu Bello, said any such election in Kogi, Sokoto, Adamawa, Cross River and Bayelsa states will have to wait till next year.

The ruling also set new dates for the termination of the tenures of the governors. Ibrahim Idris, Kogi, will stay on till April 5,2012; Aliyu Wammakko, Sokoto, remains till May 28,2012; Timipre Sylva, Bayelsa, leaves the next day on May 29, 2012; Liyel Imoke's tenure in Cross River terminates on August 28, 2012; and Murtala Nyako, Adamawa, gets his tenure elongated till April 30th, 2012.

The five governors had gone to court to challenge the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct governorship elections in their states this year. They said their tenure only began after they won the run off in their states and so should not be terminated in April 2011. They named INEC and the Peoples Democratic Party as first and second defendants respectively..

Electoral commission waits

When contacted last night, the electoral chairman's spokesperson, Kayode Idowu, said the commission will not be rushed into taking any decision until it has made further consultations on the judgment. "When we receive the judgment, we will have to sit down with our lawyers to study the decision. Taking a decision now will be too sudden." Mr. Idowu said.

The counsel to the five governors: Lateef Fagbemi, Kanu Agabi, Sunday Ameh, Ladi Rotimi Williams and Paul Erokoro had asked the court to stop INEC and the PDP from conducting elections in the five states, citing Section 180 (2) of the 1999 Constitution. They said the law that the four-year tenure of office for a governor begins from the day the person takes an oath of office and oath of allegiance is a sacrosanct provision and cannot be abridged or ignored.

In opposing the governors' request, the government urged the court to dismiss the case for lack of merit.

Mr Bello however held that since the 2007 elections were nullified and set aside by competent courts, the oath of office and allegiance subscribed to by the five governors have all been nullified and set aside along with the elections. He said, "the tenure of governors start counting from the day they took their oath of office and oath of allegiance." The judge further said that in line with section 180 of the 1999 Constitution, the tenure of the governors legally commenced in 2008 when they were sworn in after their first elections were annulled and rerun ordered.

According to Mr Bello, the 2007 elections used by INEC to determine the tenure of governors were legally declared null and void by competent courts of law.

Differing views

Adeniyi Akintola, who stood in for the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, argued that no tenure elongation should be granted to any of the governors since the amended 1999 Constitution was opposed to such a move.

But the PDP, represented by its national legal adviser, Olusola Oke, said the tenure of any governor in Nigeria today legally begins from the date the governor takes the oath of office and oath of allegiance.

The party claimed that the 2007 elections that brought the five governors to office in the first instance were voided and set aside for fresh ones by courts. The party therefore insisted that the oath of office taken by the affected governors have been voided along with the elections and were of no effect whatsoever in law.

INEC had announced that the tenures of governors who were re-elected after their 2007 elections were cut short by tribunals would end on May 29, 2011, like those of other governors.

What the law states

In the recently amended 1999 Constitution, Section 135 of the Principal Act, which deals with the issue of governors' tenure, has been altered in subsection (2) with the insertion of a new paragraph which states that: "in the determination of the four-year term, where a re-run election has taken place and the person earlier sworn in wins the re-run election, the time spent in the office before the date the election was annulled, shall be taken into account."

However, in justifying the ruling by Mr Bello, Jiti Ogunye, a Lagos-based lawyer said the new amendments cannot have an effect on incidents before it. According to him, "That amendment does not cover this kind of case, because any law cannot be applied retroactively."

Victory for the rule of law

Reacting to the judgment, Doifie Ola, spokesperson for the Bayelsa State governor, described the court ruling as a victory for the state and the rule of law in the country. He said, "The extension will give the administration more time to deepen development and democracy in the state." In Cross River, the PDP lauded the judgment while the opposition parties under its umbrella body, Conference of Nigerian Political Parties [CNPP] said the court ruling was a setback to the quest for a change in the governance of the state.

Cross River State Commissioner for Information, Patrick Ugbe, described the judgment as the best thing that has happened to the administration and commended the judiciary for righting the wrong caused by the Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar on July 14, 2008.

‘'We are happy with this judgment. It has strengthened our faith in the judiciary and our position that INEC was wrong in interpreting our tenure. The first oath of office taken had become a nullity. Therefore the second oath suffices, meaning Governor Liyel Imoke commenced his first term on August 26, 2010. The law cannot take retroactive effect'', he said.

Libya: President Orders Evacuation of 9ja Citizens

President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the immediate evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Libya. Amid criticism that the government has responded slowly to the crisis, Vice President Namadi Sambo said that evacuation plans have commenced in the north African country. Libya has a high number of Nigerians who often use the country as a departure point for Europe.

Mr Sambo said this at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting which he chaired in the absence of Mr Jonathan who was on a campaign tour.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Information Minister, Labaran Maku said the council discussed the situation in Libya and the Middle East and the condition of Nigerians in these countries.

The Foreign Affairs minister, Odein Ajumogobia, who also spoke on the evacuation, said the situation is being monitored by his ministry. He said Nigerians will be evacuated from Libya's biggest cities, Tripoli and Benghazi, but did not go into details about the plans.

"We are in close contact with our envoys," he said. "I want to assure Nigerians that the President is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. I want to assure you that whatever measures are necessary would be taken to ensure their safety and security." Mr. Ajumogobia also said our diplomats in the country have since evacuated their families as is the custom so that they can concentrate on the work at hand.

Not in Nigeria

On whether the government is afraid that similar protests like the ones in the Middle East might take place in Nigeria, the minister noted that though Nigeria has its own challenges, the president has already put in place measures to address these problems.

"One of the major challenges we have in our country is power," he said.

"Small and medium enterprises, agriculture, water resources cannot be mobilised without power. The fact that President Jonathan has taken firm control of power as his key sector is an indication of his serious commitment and determination to overcome this challenge."

The minister said public uprising of that nature is unlikely in Nigeria.

"The difference between Nigeria and those countries is that this country today is run on constitutional order where the tenure of office of leaders is fixed," he said.

"Nigeria is probably the only country in Africa today that has the largest number of former leaders alive. So our country has lessons that these countries can learn from."

Lack of information

No official figures have so far been given on the number of stranded Nigerians in Libya. A visit to the website of the Nigerian Embassy in Libya did not yield any information on this nor did any details about the evacuation plans.

Bill Gates’ visa application for Nigeria was rejected by its government initially. They wanted Gates to show proof that he would not reside in Nigeria indefinitely and cause a strain on Government’s services.

Bill Gates was recently visiting Africa, probably for his Gates Foundation charities, wanted to travel to Nigeria. He needed a visa from Nigerian Government, so when he applied for the visa, Nigeria denied him. The Nigerian government required proof that the Bill Gates would not stay in the country for a long time and become a burden to Nigeria’s social services and immigration. Nigeria because of its oil wealth, many from other African countries immigrate illegally, so the Nigerian governement required assurances from Bill Gates that he will not be in the country for long. A travel document expediter CIBT helped the billionaire Bill Gates overcome the hurdle by helping him with his application, obtained a letter from Gates’ bank that reassured the Nigerian authorities, who later approved his visa. 9jabook.com writer says his holiday plans to Nigeria goes down the drain, if Gates has problems getting into Nigeria, he has absolutely no chance. No, not even with a Gizmodo email account as collateral—shocking. I don’t know where the Nigerian government got the idea that Gates is going to stay in Nigeria for long; it must have been embarrassing for Gates. At least we have to admire Nigerian officials they didn’t care who the person was and just followed the government procedures.

Concerned Akwa Ibom Citizens

The Concerned Citizens of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, residing in USA, London, Uyo Akwa Ibom and other parts of Nigeria and other parts of the world will be holding a protest rally in the following locations: Washington DC Capitol, White House); New York (UN); Atlanta(King Center, Nigerian Consulate); Houston(City Hall);London; Uyo (Akwa Ibom State Capital); on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 12 noon local time, to press home their demands for justice, good governance, respect for life and liberty for all.

We are sending this letter to you being aware of the power of the free press and media in unshackling the chains of oppression, giving voice to the voiceless, giving hope to the hopeless and providing solace to those that are in despair.

The press and media stand on issues relating to Human rights and Social

Justice is unparalleled. We are weak but strong in heart realizing that you will hearken to our cry for justice and use your coverage to strengthen our voice.

Akwa Ibom State is in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, where the Ibibio, Annang, Oron, Eket, and Ibeno are the main ethnic groups....

The Ibibios are the most populous indigenous inhabitants in the state and possibly in the Niger Delta.

When combined together including the Efiks, the group constitutes the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria. The Census of 2006 puts the population of the State at nearly 5 million. Since the early 1960s, when Shell (Anglo/Dutch) began oil exploration in Nigeria, hydrocarbon has become the main stay of Nigeria's economy.

In 1970, Mobil Producing began oil production off the coast of Akwa

Ibom State. The State is now the largest oil producing area in Nigeria.

The past years have been tough for our country Nigeria and some of her states, for politicians and those without such inclinations due to unprecedented murders, assassinations, rape, kidnappings and intimidation going on in Akwa Ibom State (our homeland) of Nigeria. Assassinations and kidnappings continue are unabated, and relentlessly.

We have lost loved ones, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances in this act of state terrorism.  For those of us not directly affected, the hurt, fear, and despair permeates our body due to our collective believe in the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The bible also exhorts, “mourn with those who mourn.” (Rom. 12:15).

In Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, people, especially the children, are being killed and in some cases, their bodies are being dismembered, mutilated, and their body parts used for cult related rituals. Innocent citizens are being harassed for not being in the band-wagon of Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio, kidnapped simply for supporting a candidate other than Akpabio, threatened for switching political parties, and arrested and detained by authorities on false and trumped-up charges, or on the orders of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

Women are killed and their private parts excavated for ritual purposes.

So many of these kidnappings and assassinations are carried out inside churches during Sunday Services, where people regularly assemble to pray and thank God for blessings received for their daily events.

In Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, no place is safe.

On February 16, 2011, we received reports of five people whose

bodies were found in different locations around the Akwa Ibom State. Some of the bodies have been identified as supporters of opposition party candidates.

The wicked and diabolical schemes are not restricted to the people at home. Reports have confirmed that the Akwa Ibom State administration has paid airline crews and taxi drivers a sizable amount of money to maintain a log (known as a manifest in Akwa

Ibom) of every passenger ferried into the State. The goal for such a log is for use in fishing-out Akwa Ibom State indigenes resident abroad that have been criticizing the activities of Governor Godswill Akpabio's administration. This is taxpayer’s money spent

on such a frivolous and wicked scheme. The question is, what would Godswill Akpabio do if any of the perceived critics is identified? Of course he will kill the person; that is how sick and Satanic the government of Governor Godswill Akpabio and some of his supporters are.

It is obvious today that the government of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, has defaulted on its sacred promise and obligation to keep the citizens safe. The government of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria is using the services of the Police and State Security to intimidate, harass, and arbitrarily arrest innocent citizens.

The reason Governor Godswill Akpabio feels that he has succeeded in his diabolical acts is because of the docility of the masses, a quality, which the Governor is taking for granted and clearly underestimating.

It is interesting that the Security Vote mandated by Nigeria's Constitution as funds a State Executive should use to guaranty safety and security for the people is being used by a greedy and senseless man to kill the very people he swore to protect and uphold their inalienable rights.

What is more interesting is that this same man is now going around begging the citizens for another chance for a second term as their governor. So far, he has miss-read their pulse by equating docility with cowardice and by misinterpreting silence as ignorance.

We are already in hell. We pray God to take away this cup from us.

It would be fatal for us to overlook the urgency of the moment as we do not believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We therefore call on you who represent the free press, which cherish freedom, democracy, and good governance and respect for life to help us in condemning this evil. We should always remember that “all that is needed for evil to prevail is for good men and women to do nothing".

We urge you to help us to stop political assassinations, kidnappings, political imprisonments, child abuse and neglect, elderly neglect, and political intimidations in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria.

 Please, we need your help.

We need you to amplify our cry against these senseless killings.

We need a medium to convey our call to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria and to convey to him that there is ethnic cleansing of the Ibibio tribe of Akwa Ibom state of Nigeria conducted by Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio.

We need your help because President Jonathan believes it is better to court the governor who uses the state funds to bankroll his electioneering campaign rather than siding with the majority, the oppressed to whom should lay political power in a civilized society.

We need a medium to tell the government of Nigeria that we are tired and economically exhausted due to sending money home frequently for burial expenses and for payment of ransom to kidnappers.

We need a medium to tell our government and all the human rights agencies worldwide that we are tired of contributing towards the mental rehabilitation of those who suffer from the agony and torture of kidnappings, abuse, and neglect.

Please do not delay as tomorrow may be too late. Broadcast it in the morning, broadcast it at dawn. Please help tell the whole world our story, lest they say they never heard. We no longer want to remain slaves in our home-land as we can no longer sleep in our homes due to fear of assassination.

Join us and say No to kidnappings

Join us and say No to assassinations

Join us and say No to Child abuse

Join us and say not to the ethnic cleansing of the Ibibios

Joins us and say No to state sponsored terrorism of her citizens

Join us and say no to the killings and kidnappings of Americans,

Britons and expatriate oil workers from other countries.

Yours sincerely,

Concerned Citizens of Akwa Ibom.

Mohammed Gaddafi
By Wikileaks/Guardian, UK

US embassy cables shed light on Gaddafi family – including son Saif al-Islam, who vowed in TV address to eradicate enemies.

Muammar Gaddafi presides over a 'dysfunctional' family of eight offspring, WikiLeaks cables reveal.

The leader of the Libyan revolution presides over a "famously fractious" family that is powerful, wealthy, dysfunctional and marked by internecine struggles, according to US diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks. The documents shed light on how his eight children – among whom rivalries have sharpened in recent years – his wife and Gaddafi himself lead their lives.

Muammar Gaddafi

The patriarch, now 68, was described by US ambassador to Tripoli, Gene Cretz, in 2009 as a "mercurial and eccentric figure who suffers from severe phobias, enjoys flamenco dancing and horseracing, acts on whims and irritates friends and enemies alike." Gaddafi has an intense dislike or fear of staying on upper floors, and prefers not to fly over water, the cables add.

Safiya (nee Farkash)

Gaddafi's second wife travels by chartered jet in Libya, with a motorcade of Mercedes vehicles waiting to pick her up at the airport to take her to her destination, but her movements are limited and discreet. Hosted a banquet in the Bab al-Azizia compound on the occasion of the anniversary of the revolution that was festive but not extravagant. Hails from Benghazi, the centre of the rebellion in eastern Libya.

Saif al-Islam
Second-eldest son. Presumed heir-apparent in recent years who warned of civil war when he addressed the nation on Sunday night. A trained engineer who promotes political and economic reform and backed NGOs under the aegis of the International Charitable Gaddafi Foundation. Has PhD from the London School of Economics.

"Saif al-Islam's high-profile role as the public face of the regime to the west has been a mixed blessing for him. Has bolstered his image but many Libyans view him as self-aggrandising and too eager to please foreigners," the US embassy said.

Escorted the convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi home to die in August 2009 "and persisted in his hard-partying, womanising ways, a source of concern in a socially conservative country like Libya". Cables claim at odds with siblings Muatassim, Aisha, Hannibal, and Sa'adi.

Sa'adi

Third-eldest son. "Notoriously ill-behaved Sa'adi has a troubled past, including scuffles with police in Europe (especially Italy), abuse of drugs and alcohol, excessive partying, travel abroad in contravention of his father's wishes Former professional footballer (a single season with Perugia in Italy's Serie A league, he owns a significant share of al-Ahli, one of the two biggest soccer teams in Libya, and has run Libya's football federation). An engineer by training, Sa'adi was briefly an officer in a special forces unit.

Used troops under his control to affect the outcome of business deals. Owns a film production company. Reported to have been involved in crushing the protests in Benghazi.

Muatassim

Fourth-eldest son. Father's national security adviser and until recently a rising star. In 2008 he asked for $1.2bn (£739m) to establish a military or security unit akin to that of his younger brother, Khamis. Lost control of many of his personal business interests between 2001 and 2005 when his brothers took advantage of his absence to put in place their own partnerships. Described as "not very bright" by Serbian ambassador. Gets on badly with Saif al-Islam.

Hannibal

Chequered history of unseemly behavior and public scuffles with authorities in Europe and elsewhere. Arrest in Geneva over alleged beating his servants led to bilateral spat with Switzerland, in which Swiss were forced to back down under threat of withdrawal of Libyan investments.

In December 2009, police were called to Claridge's hotel in London after staff heard a scream from Hannibal's room. Aline Skaf, now his wife, was found to have suffered facial injuries but charges were not brought after she maintained she had sustained the injuries in a fall. Fifth eldest son.

Khamis

Gaddafi's sixth son and the "well-respected" commander of a special forces unit – 32nd battalion or Khamis brigade that effectively serves as a regime protection unit and was reportedly involved in suppressing unrest in Benghazi. Trained in Russia.

Aisha
Daughter who mediates in family disputes ands runs NGO. Reported to have financial interests in a private clinic in Tripoli, one of two trustworthy facilities that supplement the unreliable healthcare available through public facilities. Lionel Richie was flown to Libya several years ago to sing at her birthday celebration. A younger adopted daughter, Hanna, was killed in the US bombing of Tripoli in 1986.

Muhammad
The eldest son, but by Gaddafi's first wife. Heads the Libyan Olympic committee that now owns 40% of the Libyan Beverage Company, currently the Libyan joint venture Coca-Cola franchisee. Also runs general post and telecommunications committee.

Saif al-Arab
Least publicly known of the eight children. Reportedly lives in Munich, where it is claimed he pursues ill-defined business interests and spends much time partying.

Like all the Gaddafi children and favourites is supposed to have income streams from the national oil company and oil services subsidiaries. A seventh son, Milad Abuztaia, is an adopted nephew.

NaturesPlatform- Man, like his fellow primates, has always used the squatting position for eliminationsitting-vs-squatting2-naturesplatform.gif. Infants of every culture instinctively adopt this posture to relieve themselves. Although it may seem strange to someone who has spent his entire life deprived of the experience, this is the way the human body was designed to function..

And this is the way our ancestors performed their bodily functions until the middle of the 19th century. Before that time, chair-like toilets had only been used by royalty and the disabled. But with the advent of indoor plumbing in the 1800’s, the throne-like water closet was invented 22 to give ordinary people the same “dignity” previously reserved for kings and queens. The plumber and cabinet maker who designed it had no knowledge of human physiology – and sincerely believed that they were improving people’s lives..

Seven Advantages of Squatting

# Makes elimination faster, easier and more complete. This helps prevent “fecal stagnation,” a prime factor in colon cancer, appendicitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
# Protects the nerves that control the prostate, bladder and uterus from becoming stretched and damaged.
# Securely seals the ileocecal valve, between the colon and the small intestine. In the conventional sitting position, this valve is unsupported and often leaks during evacuation, contaminating the small intestine.
# Relaxes the puborectalis muscle which normally chokes the rectum in order to maintain continence.
# Uses the thighs to support the colon and prevent straining. Chronic straining on the toilet can cause hernias, diverticulosis, and pelvic organ prolapse.
# A highly effective, non-invasive treatment for hemorrhoids, as shown by published clinical research.
# For pregnant women, squatting avoids pressure on the uterus when using the toilet. Daily squatting helps prepare one for a more natural delivery.

The new device symbolized the “progress” and “creativity” of western civilization. It showed that Man could “improve” on Nature and transcend the primitive cultural practices followed by the poor “benighted” natives in the colonies. The “White Man’s Burden” typified the condescending Victorian attitude toward other races and cultures.

Squat appendages to home toilets are being reintroduced on recommendation of medical personnel.

back-shitters-thumb.jpg?width=344

The British plumbing industry moved quickly to install indoor plumbing and water closets throughout the country. The great benefits of improved sanitation caused people to overlook a major ergonomic blunder: The sitting position makes elimination difficult and incomplete, and forces one to strain.

Those who could not overlook this drawback had to keep silent, because the subject was considered unmentionable. Furthermore, how could they criticize the “necessary” used by Queen Victoria herself? (Hers was gold-plated, befitting the self-styled “Empress of India.”)

sitting-vs-squatting-naturesplatform.gif?width=356

Sitting vs squatting {naturesplatform}

So, like the Emperor’s New Clothes, the water closet was tacitly accepted. It was a grudging acceptance, as evidenced by the popularity of “squatting stools” sold in the famous department store, Harrods of London. As shown below on the left, these footstools merely elevated one’s feet in a crude attempt to imitate squatting.

The rest of Western Europe, as well as Australia and North America, did not want to appear less civilized than Great Britain, whose vast empire at the time made it the most powerful country on Earth. So, within a few decades, most of the industrialized world had adopted “The Emperor’s New Throne.”

150 years ago, no one could have predicted how this change would affect the health of the population. But today, many physicians blame the modern toilet for the high incidence of a number of serious ailments. Westernized countries have much higher rates of colon and pelvic disease, as illustrated by this report in the Israel Journal of Medical Science:

The prevalences of bowel diseases (hemorrhoids, appendicitis, polyps, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticular disease, and colon cancer) are similar in South African whites and in populations of prosperous western countries. Among rural South African blacks with a traditional life style, these diseases are very uncommon or almost unknown.

3pix.jpg?width=482

Pictures of ancient public toilets tend to confuse westerners, who assume that they were used in the sitting position. This impression is often reinforced by the pose of a comical tourist. But, in reality, these are squat toilets. They are elevated, not for sitting, but because there is an open sewer underneath. The cutouts in the vertical wall allow people to clean themselves with water, which is done from the front when squatting. The last picture shows a typical tourist. He might be surprised to learn that, except for royalty and the disabled, everyone used the squatting position until the second half of the 19th century.

Within the past several days there have surfaced a total of four separate videos showing a UFO descend, hover, flash brightly and then streak back upwards, directly over the spire of the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

 jerusalemufo2.JPG?width=640

Please note that many credible eschatologists (Bible prophecy scholars), for a variety of valid reasons, espouse the belief that UFO's are demonic apparitions and NOT visitors from other planets aka "aliens".

Realizing their true origin, these videos may be viewed in proper perspective. Please also note the significance of their appearance over the Temple Mount, which is the most sought after, fought after, piece of real estate on the globe.

The Temple Mount is considered holy by the three most dominant world religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

Even more astounding is the fact that this demonic manifestation is directly over the one of the most sacred Islamic mosques, the Dome of the Rock.

Notable is the fact that this amazing well documented sighting occurred on January 28, 2011 when the current spate of Mideast uprisings was just taking a foothold.

These revolts may be the catalyst that sparks the ignition of the coming Psalm 83 War, prophesied for the last days.

Please see the following blog entry for the details of this War, which may well mark the beginning of the Tribulation period:

http://theworldisshaking.blogspot.com/2010/04/what-is-psalm-83-war-here-are-details.html

It is also imperative to realize that Jerusalem is God's holy city, which the world is desiring to divide in these last days.

Therefore, this recent "UFO" manifestation in Jerusalem, over the Temple Mount and directly over the spire of the Dome of the Rock is extremely significant and nothing short of astounding in light of Bible prophecy.

The four following videos are footage of the very same event, through four different lens from four different vantage points.

They are taken from a range of distances from upon a hillside to within the city; with a variance of differing angles.

These videos can therefore, not be debunked as they are of the same exact sighting by several spectators from varying positions.

The timing of the activity of descending, hovering, flashing brightly and then streaking upward by the UFO/demonic entity correlates perfectly as it is the exact same in each video.

As such, the timing of this "UFO's" activity further solidifies the veracity of the footage.

Please note that there are a multitude of other rationales, regarding the UFO phenomena, proving that they are indeed demonic manifestations. These proofs will be covered at a later date.

At this time, however, it is vital to realize that most in the field of Bible prophecy believe that UFO phenomena will be used by the enemy as an end times deception that will deceive many as for so many, "seeing is believing":

2 Thessalonians 2:9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.
From the above Scripture, it appears that God may allow this delusion by Satan, to those who refuse "to love the truth".
This may be another reason that Scripture so emphasizes the importance of faith; so that the people of God, who love the truth and hold it in their hearts by faith, will not waiver and fall for the lie which will propagated by the great deceiver.

This is why it is so important that Christ followers to be strong in their faith as well as to be alert to the possibility of this coming great delusion.

We cannot know the timing of the grand appearance of this delusion to the masses and whether or not it will precede the Rapture of the the readied Bride.

Therefore, it is so important for Christ followers to be in the Word of God and drawing nigh to Him as the days grow short and the times more perilous!

CREDIBLE REASONS FOR THE DYING WILDLIFE PHENOMENON

Following is more amazing insight and fascinating information by my fellow watchman, R. Johnson, regarding plausible explanations for the recent astonishing mystery of the dying wildlife, over the various parts of the globe, in the past week.
arkansas-birds-fall-sky-fish-kill-blackbird_30820_600x450.jpg?width=640

"The earthquake which killed 700 people in Chili last February (2010) caused the earth's axis to shift and shortened our days by a very small amount. There have been so many strong earthquakes this last year. I imagine there has been or will be, more shifting as these earthquakes continue, or increase.

Some people are predicting major magnetic pole changes.

A rapid change might cause birds, which use the magnetic poles to navigate, to become disoriented, maybe enough for a flock of birds to bang into each other causing internal damage and mass death.

I'm a Licensed Amateur Radio operator (Ham Radio). There are several levels of licensing, but those of us who are licensed to transmit on the High Frequencies (long distance frequencies) keep an eye on the current conditions of the eleven year solar cycle.

We do this because the increase or decrease (depending upon where we are in the cycle) of solar irradiation which reaches earth affects the distance around the globe that we are able to transmit and receive.

We are in the middle of an improving solar cycle that will peak in about 2012. For Ham Radio operators this means that radio frequency bands that have been closed to us are starting to open up and we can communicate with other Hams in countries much father around the globe.

However, some scientists are predicting that as we reach this peak, massive solar disruptions will begin happening and could cause widespread disruptions (similar to those which the electromagnetic pulse EMP bombs we keep hearing about cause).

Massive power failures, electronic chips which are now found in everything from cars to cell phones to computers to gas pumps to factory machines to stop lights will fail.

Basically every device we depend upon will stop working and require chip replacements or major electronic repairs to get working again.

You won't be able to use any of them, unless they are stored and used behind shielding. Lead is the best electromagnetic shielding.

Lead is that stuff that the US government so vigorous campaigned against in the 1960s and 1970s for us to take off the walls of our houses because purportedly millions of children ate paint which they told us would caused mental development problems.

So our walls are no longer shielded from electromagnetic waves, nor from various methods of electronic eavesdropping.

I have read that during that time (lead safety campaign) they were also developing technology which would allow them to electronically look and listen through walls and record what they heard/saw.

The article I read said that lead paint prevented these devices from working and os actually what really prompted the government's Lead Paint removal campaigns in the 60s and 70s.

We may never know if that was true or a coincidence.

While not as good as lead, heavy aluminum shielding blocks electromagnetic waves and can be used to prevent folks from listening to conversations in your house via your cell phone (yes it can easily be done without you even knowing it), prevent the remote viewing of your computer screen (ECHELON), and more importantly, keep computers, cell phones, radios, and other devices you want to still be able to use afterwards working.

Getting back on the topic of electromagnetic disturbances:

The US military's HAARP program (based in Alaska) also has the capably to cause anomalies in the earth's Ionosphere, purportedly used in researching ways to extend the distance of military radio communications.

I have read that they are also working on extending radio communication for submarines in the ocean.

Some suspect that's a cover for a weapon they have been developing. What they are doing has been compared to the Scalar Electromagnetic Energy weapons (Tesla Howitzers) purportedly developed by the KGB which can send strong EM energy to any point on the globe and even through the earth from one point to another.

These devices are strong enough to cause a heating up or a cooling down of their target area as well as magnetic force field disturbances They can also cause stress to build on fault lines which eventually result in earthquakes. Some reports indicate they can even cause weather changes.

It is rumored that the Russians and others have been increasingly using these weapons to cause earthquakes and disasters in targeted countries around the globe in an attempt to cause increased economic problems and the eventual economic collapse of those countries.

Sounded like Science Fiction to me until I read the following:

"In January, 1960 (now 50 years ago!) Nikita Khrushchev announced to the Presidium:

'We have a new weapon, just within the portfolio of our scientists, so to speak, which is so powerful that, if unrestrainedly used, it could wipe out all life on earth. It is a fantastic weapon.'

The Russians have not yet revealed that weapon, but developed it in secret, and tested it clandestinely to see if the West could understand what was going on, whether the U.S. had discovered the weapon yet. It had not.

In 1997, 37 years after Khrushchev had announced the new (scalar electromagnetic) weapon U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen gave a warning, suggesting that the U.S. had finally understood the nature and power of the weapon.

He warned about eco-terrorism using scalar electromagnetic weapons:

"Others [terrorists] are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves...So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations...It's real, and that's the reason why we have to intensify our [counter terrorism] efforts."

The above quote is from:

http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?read=38963

So G-d may be allowing (or using) man's greedy nature, warmongering, and foolish tampering with physics to cause the huge increase in earthquakes and disasters over the last few years.

Additionally, the Scalar Electromagnetic Energy they can target so precisely to any point on earth might also explain why these massive flocks of birds are dropping dead with internal trauma.

If they are testing the sending of the same through the water ways that that might explain why the fish are dying with similar conditions.

Maybe they died from artificially caused extremes of heat or cold or disorientation from magnetic force fields, or renal trauma directly caused by the beams which were sent to targeted areas where the animals just happened to be in during beta testing of these devices.

Or, maybe using advance target spotting devices they intentionally looked for large flocks of birds and attacked them intentionally as part of their testing. Maybe the same was done with the fish and whales.

IS THE CHRISTCHURCH EARTHQUAKE A SIGNAL TO CHRIST'S CHURCH?

2010–2011 earthquakes

[edit]September 2010

An earthquake with magnitude 7.1 occurred in the South Island, New Zealand at Saturday 04:35 am local time, 4 September 2010 (16:35 UTC, 3 September 2010).[10] The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.0 miles), and there were no fatalities.

The epicentre was located 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of Christchurch; 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south-east of Darfield;[11] 190 kilometres (120 mi) south-southeast of Westport; 295 kilometres (183 mi) south-west of Wellington; and 320 kilometres (200 mi) north-northeast of Dunedin.

Sewers were damaged,[12] gas and water lines were broken, and power to up to 75% of the city was disrupted.[13] Among the facilities impacted by lack of power was the Christchurch Hospital, which was forced to use emergency generators in the immediate aftermath of the quake.[13]

state of emergency was declared at 10:16 am on 4 September for the city, and evacuations of parts were planned to begin later in the day.[14] People inside the Christchurch city centre were evacuated, and the city's central business district remained closed until 5 September .[15] A curfew from 7 pm on 4 to 7 September am on 5 September was put in place.[16] The New Zealand Army was also deployed to assist police and enforce the curfew. All schools were closed until 8 September so they could be checked.

Christchurch International Airport was closed following the earthquake and flights in and out of it cancelled. It reopened at 1:30 pm following inspection of the main runway.[17]

The earthquake was reported to have caused widespread damage and power outages. 63 aftershocks were also reported in the first 48 hours with three registering 5.2 magnitude. Christchurch residents reported chimneys falling in through roofs, cracked ceilings and collapsed brick walls.[18] Total Earthquake Commission, insurance and individual costs may reach as high as NZ$4 billion according to the New Zealand Treasury.[19][20]

An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred on 22 February 2011. It was centred on Lyttelton 10 kilometers south of Christchurch and at a depth of 5 km.[21]

In contrast to the September 2010 quake, the 6.3-magnitude quake struck on a busy weekday afternoon. At least 75 people were killed,[22] and hundreds injured.

Many buildings were severely damaged, including the iconic ChristChurch Cathedral.

Ist Quake:

Everyone knows the basic mechanics of earthquakes and that they occur due to slippage of faults, at fault lines.

So it is well realized that earthquakes originate from the sudden movements of the earth's tectonic plates, close to the earth's surface, along zones of pre-existing weakness called faults.
As such, great earthquakes are associated with major faults (cracks) in the crust. When the faults are locked tightly together, the strain accumulates without producing earthquakes. When the faults relax, the rocks slip and shake the earth.
faultline.jpgIncredible as it is, there was NO fault at or near Christchurch, New Zealand, prior to the recent massive 7.0 quake!!

Instead, it is widely reported that this huge quake actually"ripped a new fault line in the Earth's surface".

"New Zealand Quake Rips New Fault."

"The powerful earthquake that smashed buildings, cracked roads and twisted rail lines around the New Zealand city of Christchurch also ripped a new fault line in the Earth's surface, a geologist said Sunday".

"Earth's surface 'lurches 11ft to the right' as New Zealand earthquake rips new fault line".

"The earthquake that devastated a city in New Zealand tore open a new 11ft fault line in the Earth’s surface."

new+faultline.jpg

"The 7.1-magnitude quake which hit Christchurch, the country’s second-largest city, destroyed about 500 buildings and caused an estimated £930million of damage."

"Miraculous"

The Prime Minister of New Zealand, "who visited earthquake-stricken parts of the country's South Island over the weekend, said 430 houses and another 70 buildings had already been earmarked for demolition by assessment teams."

"About 100,000 of the 160,000 homes in the Christchurch, Selwyn and Waimakariri areas had sustained some damage, he added."
"I was awe-struck by the power of the earthquake and the damage it has caused in the city," he told reporters. "It was miraculous that nobody was killed."

Christchurch+devastation.jpg
The scientific awareness of normal plate tectonics as the cause of earthquakes, gives deeper meaning to the supernatural significance of this recent 7.0 quake in Christchurch, New Zealand.

As reported, the earth's surface just "lurched" and ripped a new fault line.

This event is surely phenomenal and shows the handprint of God as the crust just ripped open, while sparing the lives of the entire populace of the city.

Earthquake.jpg

As the Prime Minister stated "It was "miraculous that nobody was killed".

Even though there were more than 100,000 buildings suffering damage and more than 500 structures so severely damaged that they are slated for demolition, there were no casualties.

This is another factor that is surely confounding the experts. What are the chances that out of more than 500 buildings being destroyed at 4:35 am when most residents would be at home, sleeping, that no lives would be lost?

Only two people out of the city's 348,400 residents sustained serious injuries even though "When the earthquake finally ended the city looked like a scene from a horror film".

damage.jpg
"Only two serious injuries were reported from the quake as chimneys and walls of older buildings were reduced to rubble and crumbled to the ground. Prime Minister John Key said it was a miracle no one was killed."

God mercifully allowed none to perish and only two to be seriously injured with this sign that He has surely presented to us

Apparently, God used the city named CHRISTCHURCH in which it was scientifically impossible to experience an earthquake.

It therefore appears evident that the God of Heaven rippedopen the crust because previously there was NO FAULT LINE at or near Christchurch New Zealand, but there is now!

Research on the other "Christchurch" city on our globe, which is in Barbados, shows that it IS on a fault line.

So, the difference between the two is that the Christchurch in Barbados is on a fault line whereas Christchurch, New Zealand was not.

It appears that the Lord purposefully used the "Christchurch" where an earthquake was impossible according to plate tectonics, so as to prove it was His intervention.

Interesting to note, New Zealand's main commercial activity is the raising of sheep.

The fact that sheep are representative of New Zealand further evidences the strong possibility that this is a signal from the Lord to His sheep, the flock of Jesus Christ!

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

When the disciples questioned Jesus about His coming and the end of the age Jesus answered them: "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man" Matthew 24:37

This verse has perplexed many, resulting in various interpretations. If we review the Scripture, we see in Genesis that Noah's ark was shut by God and it was SEVEN daysbefore the flood started.

Because of this fact, many Bible prophecy scholars have theorized that there will be a warning seven days prior to the Rapture and the subsequent beginning of the "flood" of Tribulation events.

Genesis 7

The Great Flood
1 Then the LORD said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. 2 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; 3 also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth. 4 For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” 5And Noah did according to all that the LORD commanded him. 6 Noah wassix hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth.
7 So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean animals, of animals that areunclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth, 9 two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth....16 So those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him; and the LORD shut him in

Note that the chapter in Genesis describing the days of Noah is Chapter 7. The Christchurch earthquake was a 7.0 magnitude and it occurred, Israeli time, 7 days before Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah is God's appointed feast day that most prophecy students and Messianic rabbis believe it to be representative of the Rapture of the Church.

The number seven is the Biblical number of completion. God, with all the astonishing events outlined above, may be signaling the completion of the Church Age to those who have been watching and are aware that Rosh Hashanah coincides with the Rapture!

Please see the following website for an elaboration on God's perfect number being the number, 7 :

http://www.angelfire.com/az/rainbowbridge/seven.html

Now, we will delve into the significance of this possible seven day warning ending with the celebration of the feast of Rosh Hashanah.

The first thing that Christ-followers need to realize is that God's feast days that He outlined in the Torah, represent God's plan of redemption, compromising both His first and second coming.

Jesus has already fulfilled all the Spring Feast days with His first coming.

The upcoming Fall feast days represent the Rapture, His Second Coming and the Millennial period.

The next feast day to be fulfilled would be the first Fall festival, Rosh Hashanah.

It is important to remember that the feast days are NOT just Jewish feast days but are God's feast days. In the book of Leviticus, God stressed that they are HIS feast days.

Leviticus 23:

1The Lord said to Moses, 2“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies

So, the festival (feast) days belong to the Lord Himself. His followers, Jew and Gentile are to keep them.

If the Church had been observing God's feast days then they would have realized that His return for His own would come one Rosh Hashanah/ Yom Teruah.

It is noteworthy to realize that Rosh Hashanah has several different titles, all referring to the same festival.

It is also known as Yom Teruah,or the Feast of Trumpets. These titles, as well as other names for this important festival, will be used interchangeably throughout this entry.

The Jewish idiom for God's feast day of Yom Teruah, is the feast "of which no man knows the day or the hour".

Due to the dispersion of the Jewish people from their land in ancient days, the feast of the new moon/Yom Teruah could have been over before word of the sighting of the new moon spread to those dispersed in Babylon.

Therefore, Rosh Hashanah was celebrated as a two day festival but recognized as one long day. It is the only feast day that begins at the sighting of the new moon by two witnesses in Jerusalem.

Because of this, no one could know for certain, beforehand, the day or hour of the beginning of the feast of Yom Teruah.

Bear in mind that Yeshua (Jesus)was Jewish, speaking to His Jewish disciples when He used this well known Jewish idiom:

Matt. 24: 36“ No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Just as in American culture, one would know that if someone informed them that they would visit them on "Turkey Day'" that they were indicating Thanksgiving.

In the same manner, the Scripture indicates that our Jewish Savior was referring to the well known 2 day feast of Yom Teruah/"on a day or hour that no man knows" (which is also an idiom of this feast being representative of the Jewish Wedding).

"Of that day or hour no man knows, but my Father only" is the expression used by a Jewish groom when asked when he will go and steal away his bride "like a thief in the night".

1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

The Jewish groom (representing Jesus) goes away to prepare a place for his bride. When preparations on the bridal chamber are completed, the father of the groom (representing our Heavenly Father)tells his son it is time to fetch his bride.

The Feast of Trumpets is also known as the "wedding of the Messiah", and therefore, the expression about "not knowing the day or the hour" refers to the Jewish wedding custom in relation to this feast.

Believers are the Bride of Christ for whom the Bridegroom, Yeshua, (Jesus) will one day come to take to His Father's House, at the time of the Rapture.

Therefore, it is clear that the Rapture must take place on a Feast of Trumpets/the wedding of the Messiah.

Remember Jesus's assurance to us, His Bride:

Matthew 14:1“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.a If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?b 3When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

Thus, it can easily be seen how this feast day represents the Rapture, as the Bride of Christ, we are caught up in the air to be with the Lord and to attend the marriage supper of the Lamb.
jesus_rapture.jpg
The title, Yom Teruah, means Day of Trumpets in Hebrew. There is the blowing of 100 shofar blasts towards the very end of the celebration of this feast.

The one hundredth and last blast is called "THE LAST TRUMP".

Just as Jesus was Jewish speaking to a Jewish audience so was Paul, as a Jew, relating the well known Jewish name for the last shofar blast blown ending the Feast of Trumpets/Yom Teruah.

1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

On The Feast of Trumpets, the challah, or special bread, is baked into the shape of a circle, representing a crown.

It is on this day that the coronation of the King is to occur and the King which we know to be Yeshua Ha Mashiach, is to be enthroned on this festival/feast day. The shofar is blown during the coronation of a king.

As such, it can be seen that one day, on a Yom Teruah, (which means the "day of blowing") that the shofars will be blown announcing the coronation of King Jesus!

The thirty days prior to Yom Teruah are the month of Elul. Daily during this month, leading up to Rosh Hashanah, we are supposed to reflect on our lives because God's judgment is coming on Rosh Hashanah.
The message from Elul 1 to Rosh Hashanah is clear: Repent before Rosh Hashanah. Don’t wait until after Rosh Hashanah, or you will find yourself in the Days of Awe.

The Days of Awe are the seven days in between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur/Day of Atonement.

These 7 days represent the 7 year Tribulation period and The Day of Atonement represents the Second Coming of Jesus.

God is so loving and merciful that He gave us each year, 30 days to search our hearts and repent prior to what one year will be the Rapture on a Yom Teruah.

Another name for Rosh Hashanah is Yom HaDin which means Day of Judgment. The Jewish people believe that on Rosh Hashanah the"books” are opened in heaven.

There are three books opened - that of life, for those whose works had been good; another of death, for those who had been thoroughly evil; and a third, intermediate.

Those classified as intermediate are those whose case will be decided on the Day of Atonement (seven days after Rosh Hoshanna on Yom Kippur).

The delay is granted for true repentance, which without, their names would be finally entered, into the book of of death.

For those who truly repent and forgive others, their names will be entered into the book of Life.

The opening of the books on Rosh Hashanah signifies the judgment of mankind wherein the righteous will be taken in the Rapture and the intermediates and wicked will be left behind to face the 7 year Tribulation.

The intermediates are those who Jesus called lukewarm and warned He would "vomit" them out of His mouth.

Revelation 3:15-17
15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,[a] I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Recognizing this, all professing Christians need to make sure their focus is on the things of God instead of the world:
Revelation 3: 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked

Rosh Hashanah is also known as Yom HaKeseh (Day of the Hiding or Hidden Day) which one may translate into the raptured Bride of Christ being "hidden" in Heaven during the cataclysmic events of the 7 year Tribulation (correlating with the 7 days of Awe).
One of the reasons for blowing the shofar is to proclaim the resurrection of the dead. Jewish thought is that the resurrection of the dead will take place on a Rosh Hashanah.
the-rapture.jpg
In addition, this feast  is also known as the Day of the Awakening Blast or The Day of the Awakening Shout.

1 Thes 4:15-18 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not preventthem which are asleepFor the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
The blast of the shofar and the shout of the Lord will one day awaken those who now sleep.

With the dead in Christ, those who are alive and truly belong to the risen Lord, will be "caught up together with them into the clouds" into glorified bodies and everlasting life.
Also, the gates of Heaven are understood to be opened on Rosh Hashanah.

As such, it is further evidence that the Rapture of the believers in Christ will take place on a Rosh Hashanah when the gates of Heaven are open, in which we may enter in.

The time of sorrows (birth pains) have been steadily growing stronger and closer together just as Jesus prophesied they would as the time of the end drew near.

Matthew 24:6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Therefore, we can be able to recognize how close to the end we are on God's prophetic timeline.

This recent 7.0 earthquake in CHRISTCHURCH  was scientifically improbable as there was no fault line until the crust ripped open and formed one.

The fact that there were NO casualties and ONLY 2 serious injuries even though more than 500 buildings were destroyed and 100,000 homes suffered damaged (in a city with a population of 348,400) is definitely nothing short of being miraculous.

As the Prime Minister of New Zealand so aptly summarized:

"It was a miracle no one was killed".
This all happening SEVEN days before Rosh Hashanah indeed appears to be a miracle as well as a sign from God to those who are watching.

The hour is growing late. We are at the end of the age and our Lord is returning.

We will soon know whether or not it is THIS Rosh Hashanah, as we are but days away.

If there is any uncertainty of our standing with God, we need to repent and draw near to Him, asking to be accounted worthy to escape the wrath to come.

Luke 21:36 Watch you therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Things A Customer Service Should Never Say.

We all know that a positive tone and language are highly important when it comes to good customer service, but many retailers still use phrases that may give the wrong image and negatively impact our customers’ shopping experience.

The following phrases used in a customer service setting can kill a sale and possibly lose a customer. Here are some sayings retailers should avoid.

1. I Don’t Know
Customers don’t expect retailers to know everything, but when it comes to answering a product question or other inquiry, they do expect the salesperson to be confident enough in their knowledge of the business to provide an answer.

Better: “That’s a good question. Let me find out for you.”

2. Calm Down
There may not be a more infuriating phrase in customer service than this one. If a customer has reached a boiling point and is ranting away, the best thing to say is nothing. Let the customer finish. Once he or she has gotten everything out, they will begin to feel better and may be more receptive to a solution.

Better: “I apologize.”

3. Did You See Any?
If a customer asks for a particular item you carry, chances are he/she already looked for it and didn’t see it. This could mean it’s out of stock or possibly still in the stock room. Even if they haven’t looked for it yet, the best customer service would be to either take them to the product or go get it for them.

Better: “Yes, we stock that. I’ll go see if we have any.”

4. We’re Closed
At the end of the day, the last thing a closing-shift employee wants to do is allow a shopper in after hours. Before turning away a potential sale, keep in mind that either the customer doesn’t know the store hours or possibly the customer’s doesn’t know what time it is. Neither is a reason to be abrupt.

Better: “We close at __ o’clock and reopen at _ o’clock. Is there something I can quickly help you with now?”

5. Will That Be All?
Not many customers would find anything negative about this phrase. However, not only is it overused but the retailer is passing up a sales opportunity.

Better: “Did you see our __ that goes with this?” or “Have you tried __?”

6. It’s Over There
We’ve all heard this bad customer service phrase used by the busy or indifferent sales clerk. Sometimes they may point in the general direction. Other times they don’t even lift their head to acknowledge the shopper. Make sure all store staff knows using this phrase is a big no-no.

Better: “Follow me, I’ll show you right where it is.”

7. I Can’t Do That
This is another negative customer service phrase that should be banned from all store staff. Either empower the employees or train them to take issues to a supervisor or store management.

Better: “What I can do is ___.”

8. That’s Not My Department
It may be true, but it is also definitely something a customer doesn’t want to hear. Retailers should train their staff to be familiar with all areas of the store operations or at least understand who to contact for help in various departments.

Better: “I’ll be happy to get you to the person who knows more about that department.”

9. It’s Against Our Policy
In today’s competitive market, retailers can’t afford to be inflexible. It is important to have store policies but it’s more important to keep a customer satisfied. Use this phrase only when you feel a policy is being abused.

Better: “Our policy is __ but we want to make this right. This is what I can do…”

10. I’m New Here
For some reason, many new staff members think this customer service phrase let’s them off the hook. The customer doesn’t care if you’re new. He/she only wants to deal with someone who knows what they’re doing and can get the result they want.

Better: “Please bear with me and I’ll get you the help you need.”

11. Hold On
This customer service phrase, and all of its variations, should be non-existent. There is a much softer way to say essentially the same thing without infuriating the customer.

Better: “Are you able to hold for a moment?”

12. I’m Busy Right Now
Have you ever said, or heard, the following? “If it weren’t for customers, I could get some work done.” If you are in retail, chances are you’ve at least thought it. The truth is, without customers retailers wouldn’t have a job.

Better: “I’d be happy to help you.”

13. You’re Wrong
No, customers are not always right but retailers should never tell them they are wrong. Never. The best course of action is to simply assume the blame.

Better: “I think there has been a misunderstanding.”

"Museveni:You want another Rap ? Crowd: Yes Sevo ! "

President Yoweri Museveni says he might release an album after a rap he performed became a smash hit on Uganda’s radio stations and in its nightclubs. “I was very happy with the reaction of the youth because that means they are very thirsty for the music of their ancestors,” the 67-year-old told a news conference before elections on Friday.

“So after the election you may get quite a big album of the classics.” The leader, nicknamed ‘M7’, performed two children’s folk chants from his birthplace in Western Uganda at several election rallies over the last few months -- ‘Naatema akati’ (I cut a stick) and ‘Mp’enkoni’ (Give me the stick).Record producers then mixed the performances with hip-hop beats.

“Those poems which I gave to the youth are classical poems from the colonial times” Museveni told reporters. “There are quite a number of other songs and recitals which I will make available to them.”

  • simply transilated as follows:

Verse 1: The stick I cut strayed into Igara where Ntambiko reigns. Ntambiko gave me a knife which I gave to millet harvesters, who gave me millet, that I gave to a hen, which gave me an egg, that I gave to children who gave me a monkey that I gave to the king, who gave me a cow that I used to marry my wife.

She gave me a child I called Mugarura who raided back what belonged to me and my fathers.

  • Verse 2:

Give me my stick! Invaders from Ngarama have arrived, shaking their bums like Rutendegyere. May thunder strike Rutendegyere from above where there is abundance that helps the rhinoceros to thrive. The rhinoceros feeds but reamins ready for a buffalo attack. The buffalo, whose meat is salty. The salt that comes from Nsharira deep inside the kingdom.

Ty Bello is back with ‘The Future’

Nigerian singer and photographer Ty Bello is back with two new singles titled ‘The Future’ and ‘The Future remix’ featuring Mr Fischer. Speaking about the inspiration behind the tracks, the singer said, ‘‘I committed myself to writing a jubilee song for Nigeria , what reinforced my passion was the Abuja bomb blast on December 31,2010. The inhumanity of the perpetrators moved me in writing the song , in my view, the bomb blast was a metaphor of the hopelessness and impending tragedy that might be ahead if we do not become more engaged in building the country we desire. I realize that the crisis in the nation is beyond the political. My hope is that as you listen to this song, you will be stirred and realise that the future that we dream of is not way ahead of us’’.

The video for ‘The Future’ was shot on Sunday, February 27 by Kemi Adetiba..

Lagos, one of the worst cities to live in

jpeg&STREAMOID=zEVW4hAslzmcmOyjezdUpC6SYeqqxXXqBcOgKOfTXxTfPCZPAxRUhKu2C9hcJ8WEnW_PgxgftuECOcfJwS6Jtlp$r8Fy$6AAZ9zyPuHJ25T7a9GKDSxsGxtpmxP0VAUyHL6IDcZHtmM2t7xO$FHdJG95dFi6y2Uma3vSsvPpVyo-The 2011 Liveabililty Ranking and Overview has rated Lagos city as the fourth worst city to live in. Last year, the city ranked fifth after an assessment of living conditions in 140 cities around the world using 30 indicators across five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

This was revealed in the latest summary of the EIU Liveability survey for the year 2010 where the state depreciated further from the fifth worst city it was ranked in 2009. With sub-indicators for each of factors such as the availability and quality of both private and public health care coupled with general health indicators, while prevalence of petty/violent crimes with threat of civil unrest/militancy are evaluated for the stability indicator.

The incessant rush-hour traffic congestion on major roads of the metropolis; insufficient low-cost housing, and its attendant impact on the housing needs of the rapidly growing population are glaring examples of the strained infrastructure needs of the city under the infrastructure indicators.

Lagos was ranked 137 in the list of 140 countries surveyed. The city with a population of 18million people had an overall rating of 39.0. The state also earned the score of 25 in stability, 33.3 in both education and health care and an above average score of 52.3 for culture and environment. The recent huge investments by the state government in infrastructure earned the state a score of 48.2.

However the deputy state governor, Sarah Sosan, who oversees the Ministry of Education disagreed with last year’s ranking stating that, “I don’t think the standard of education is low.” She said this during a press briefing held to mark the third anniversary of the current administration. “We need to improve on factors and we’ve been doing that through the rehabilitation of science laboratories, provision of libraries, putting of furniture in place, and so on. We are also aggressively putting structures in place to reduce congestion in our schools.”

On the first position of the worst city to live in the world is the Zimbabwean capital; Harare which was closely followed by Dhaka-the Bangladeshi capital which is currently hosting the cricket world cup and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. Other cities on the bottom of the table are Algiers, Karachi, Tehran, Dakar and Colombo. The bottom list was populated mainly by African and Asian cities.

Vancouver again

Vancouver in Canada remained at the top of the ranking, as it did last year and according to the EIU; the position was maintained by the “successful hosting of the 2010 winter Olympics and Paralympics, which provided a boost to the infrastructure and culture and environment categories.”

The Australian city of Melbourne rises to become the second highest ranked city with Vienna; the Austrian capital coming third.

Two other Canadian cities; Toronto and Calgary completed the top five cities most suitable to live in the world according to the EIU liveability survey.

NEXT called up the senior special assistant to the Lagos state government on media; Hakeem Bello but he declined comment saying he will have to get across to the Ministry of Economic Planning which will be privy to such statements before the state government can adequately react to it.

Respondents who reacted to the previous ranking of Lagos were unanimous that the city has enjoyed a fairly stable atmosphere despite its peculiar characteristic as a meeting point for diverse ethnic groups. Yoruba residents in the state are particularly known for their goodwill and cheer, which gives rise to the numerous parties that dot the metropolis during weekends, and even, on some cases, work days. “Lagos is like a house of everything; a mix of everything,” said Justyna Kita, a Polish citizen from Krakow who was an intern at the Murtala Muhammed Foundation

“There is the traffic, the generators, and so much noise. But the people are very friendly and open. They shake my hands in the streets, and are always singing and dancing. I have made so many friends here, and I don’t miss my home for now.” A sociologist, Uwadiegwu Otisi, attributed the city’s stability as a factor responsible for its massive population growth. “Despite the aggression displayed by most Lagos residents, the city has won accolades as a peaceful city,” he said. “And I think it has been a major form of attraction to so many people who decided to relocate to Lagos. A lot of southerners have relocated to Lagos due to the incessant religious skirmishes in the north.”..

Chinese Firms Swindle 9ja Importers

The managing director of a Lagos-based company, which deals in chemicals, Mr Jude Ekolie (not real name), thought he had a good bargain when he decided to patronise a Chinese company when he was planning to buy merchandise for his firm. Although his fingers had once been burnt in a similar deal in the past, he knew that this was the time to ponder the aphorism of once bitten, twice shy. Risk taking, he had ruminated, is part of entrepreneurship.

Of all the quotations he got, he picked that of Tianjin Jinlaifu Chemicals Company Ltd., Tianjin, China, as the best. But this time he was more careful. So he thought.

In his earlier transaction with another Chinese firm, Hebei Bofate Chemicals Company Ltd, he had on June 15, 2010 wired $2930 through telegraphic transfer for the shipment of water treatment chemicals to Nigeria. But till the time of this report, he had seen neither the goods nor his money. To worsen matters, all efforts to contact the company through its representative, Susan Zhang, came to nought. It had disappeared into thin air.

Given his previous experience, he decided to resort to what he thought was a foolproof method: paying through a letter of credit. His bank, under his instruction, had on August 26, 2010 opened a letter of credit for $14,596.20 with Citibank, New York. Under the terms of payment, the Chinese company is to ship 18.36 metric tonnes of calcium hypochlorite (used for water treatment) to the importer through the Apapa seaport in Lagos..

Payment was to be done through the correspondent bank upon confirmation of the receipt of the chemicals. That did not, however, stop Tianjin Jinlaifu from defrauding him.
But how did the transaction go wrong? Narrating his experience in an interview with Sunday Sun, Ekolie, who was on the Internet chatting with one of the company’s representatives said: “One of the reasons we chose the Chinese was that their price was attractive. While other companies in Europe were quoting around $1,000 per tonne, the Chinese quoted about $600. There was little variation in all the quotations we got from China. So, we settled for Tianjin Jinlaifu with the hope that we would get value for our money.

“Contrary to our agreement, the company shipped to us chemicals that were below the specification we ordered and paid for. We were supposed to be supplied the chemicals in granules. But it was the powder form that was shipped to us. You see, the powdered form is of low quality and it is not a fast-moving product here in Nigeria.”

Shortly after the company received the goods, it asked its bankers, First Bank, to direct Citibank not to honour the letter of credit for now. It brought the matter to the attention of Tianjin Jinlaifu, hoping there was an error that could be rectified. Rather than attend to its complaint, the company gave him a hard choice: ship the goods back. That was when the company knew that it had fallen into the net of another Chinese dupe.

Ekolie said: “We were disappointed. Shipping the goods back is going to be at the detriment of our company. We will require about N1 million to do that. After a long negotiation, the company suggested we should find market for it and sell at a lower price. After that, we instructed our bankers not to pay the full value of the letter of credit.

“Ordinarily, the money should have been paid to the Chinese company after we had received the goods. But our saving grace was that the goods arrived Nigeria before the due date on the letter of credit. So, that gave us enough time to halt the payment as the terms of the transaction had been breached.”
Given his earlier experience, were there no telltale signs that danger was looming? “Yes, there were,” he confesses.

“At the early stage of the transaction, Tianjin Jinlaifu was trying to put some stumbling blocks on our path after we had agreed on the terms of transaction. Shortly after we sealed the deal, the company was delaying the shipment of the goods. On enquiry, its officials advised us that we should buy caustic soda so as to stop Chinese authorities from intercepting the goods. At a stage, we felt the company was only trying to make us part with more money. We began to suspect it had no intention of fulfilling its own side of the bargain,” he added.

Ekolie dismissed claims that his company did not take enough steps to guarantee the fidelity of the transaction and that it should have been suspicious of the low price quoted by the supplier. He said when his company was considering employing an inspection agent to check the goods before shipment, Tianjin Jinlaifu discouraged it, claiming that it could delay the exportation of the goods as Chinese Customs could subject the process to undue bureaucracy.

“Let me say that we knew that we were taking a risk doing business with the Chinese, but risk taking is part of entrepreneurship. Unfortunately for them, there was a delay in payment as we asked Citibank to stay action on payment. Now we have been able to broker a better price deal with them. They set out to defraud us in the first instance. The game plan was to ship the wrong product, get paid before we get to know what hit us.

“Regardless of the very poor credit rating of most Chinese firms, China still remains the second biggest exporter in the world. Not even the United States can ignore the emergence of the Asians.
“That probably explains why Hu Jintao (the Chinese president) got a red carpet treatment at the White House. By 2020, China may overwhelm Germany in the export business. So apart from lower prices from their firms, the Chinese have a lot of things going for them.
“Moreover, there is no entrepreneur who does not take a risk regardless of how astute and successful. There are so many bitter lessons that one cannot learn even from the leading business schools in the world.

“However, I accept the fact that we must learn from our mistakes. Most importantly, it is our desire to enlighten others so they could have a smooth learning curve. When any Nigerian company loses, we see it as a great loss to the nation. That explains why we are crying out,” Ekolie said.
Unfortunately for Ekolie’s company, the matter may drag on endlessly as Chinese police have closed down Tianjin Jinlaifu and arrested some of its officials. Ekolie told Sunday Sun that he learnt that some of those the company had defrauded reported the matter to the police. He, however, decried the attitude of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria to reports of alleged frauds committed by Chinese companies and individuals.

“When we went to report the matter to the Commercial Section of the Chinese Consulate, located at Idejo Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, the officials were not cooperative. We met other importers with similar tales of woes. Even if you request for a visa to go to China to sort out the problem with the exporter, you are not likely to get it,” he said. Sunday Sun investigation show that many Nigerian exporters of chemicals are victims of sharp practices by their Chinese trading partners. One Nigerian importer was said to have lost over N20million in such a transaction with the Chinese.

Curiously, many of them are not willing to go public with their experience. During visits to Ojota and Ilasamaja, two popular chemical markets in Lagos, some of the traders confirmed that they had had nasty encounters with the Chinese but they declined to give details.

Ekolie attributed this to the need to protect their business. According to him, they deal in regulated products and publicity such as this could raise customers’ suspicion that could affect patronage.
“Many of us deal in a market whose products are regulated by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

We are trying to avoid the prying eyes of the agency as such reports could make its officials beam their searchlight on us. That will not be good for business,” he said.
Officials of the Commercial Section of the Chinese Consulate in Lagos declined comments on these allegations. A consulate official, who simply identified himself as Jack, told Sunday Sun on the phone that the consulate was closed for business and would not reopen until after two weeks

According to information made available 2Face had made claim to be in position to make a duet with world acclaimed R&B Singer R.Kelly for a yet to be released album.
Bisi sensing a business opportunity had entered into negotiation with Idibia using his company Happy Boys.
The idea was for the company to buy the album off 2face and use the R.Kelly angle to market it and earn returns on investment made.

Sources divulged that the compromise was reached on the understanding that Idibia would come up with another album to cushion the loss suffered.
The album was titled Unstoppable.
