Baby Enioluwa Now Found

Ten month-old Enioluwa Odegbaike who went missing two weeks ago from his parents' home in Magodo, Lagos has been found. According to a member of the Odegbaike family, he was found this morning in the border town of Badagry in Lagos. "Yes he has been found. He is fine and he is in good health," he said. A female member of the family, who identified herself as Ibukun, confirmed that the baby has been reunited with his family. "Our dearest baby and now yours, Enioluwanimi just came back home safely at 8.20am this morning," she said. Baby Enioluwa disappeared with her nanny, Victoria on February 13. It Is still uncertain if the family paid any ransom and the Police Public Relations Officer, Samuel Jinadu could not be reached to comment on the matter.

12166300878?profile=original

10 month old Enioluwa Odegbaike with babysitter's picture inset.

The family of 10-month-old Enioluwa Odegbaike who went missing 11 days ago has called on Nigerians to pray for the return of their baby because other efforts to find the child has proved abortive.

A member of the family who refused to give his name, said in a telephone interview with NEXT that the mother of the baby remains traumatised by the experience.

“She just wants to be left alone. All we need from Nigerians is their prayers that he is found and in good health,” he said.

The child was taken away from his parents’ home in Magodo, Lagos by his nanny on Sunday, February 13 and was never seen again. The nanny is believed to be working with some unknown persons.

Useful leads

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police command, Samuel Jinadu, said the police has arrested the man who acted as the nanny’s referee and introduced her to the Odegbaike’s home. He is reportedly being questioned by the police.

“The person who introduced the nanny to the family has been arrested and is being quizzed by the police. The case has been transferred to the State CID. All efforts are being made to find the missing boy. The case is still under investigation.” He said.

Underground kidnapping in Lagos

The spate of kidnapping in recent times has led many victims and their families to find various means of finding their loved ones who go missing.

The Internet, through websites, BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms have become tools that residents now use to spread news of kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

When five-year-old Sharon Omolayo was kidnapped from her school, Avicenna International School, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos by a trusted employee, on December 13, 2010, the Internet played a major role in spreading the news of her kidnap.

For the seven days she went missing, her pictures and that of her abductor was widely circulated online through several blogs, websites, Facebook and Twitter and within a few days, her name and pictures were imbedded in the minds of almost every Internet user within the country and abroad.

“It was hard not to see her,” said Efemena Mayo, a student. “Her pictures were everywhere. I first got it on my BlackBerry. Then I saw it on Facebook, Twitter, and different blogs. Before I knew it, I was looking closely at every young girl I passed on the street to see if she was Sharon because she had a birth mark on her face that was hard to miss.”

According to David Ogburn, Principal of Avicenna International School, the Internet was a very helpful tool in circulating information about Miss Omolayo, and once the information got on to Facebook, it spread quickly.

Also, when the duo of Ify Eneli and Michael Neri were kidnapped on Friday January 28 while leaving a night club in Victoria Island, Lagos, their pictures and the information about their kidnap spread quickly over the Internet with friends and family members asking for the support of the people in helping to find them.

They were released some days later after their families paid a ransom to their abductors and this information was again circulated over the Internet.

Recently, a picture of missing 10-month old Enioluwa Odegbaike has been circulated over the Internet, ensuring that more and more people get to know about the kidnap and lookout for him.

Still searching for Enioluwa

According to a release by the family, any information concerning the missing child should be reported to the nearest police station.

“If you have any information about Enioluwa or the nanny no matter how trivial, please call 07085534788, or the nearest police station. Enioluwa’s mother (Foluso) can be reached on this number, 08022228422,” said the family member who refused to comment further on the issue.

If you have any information concerning the disappearance of Enioluwa Odegbaike please call the numbers above or send a mail to metro@234next.com or  findenioluwa@systemini.net

Ten SANs to probe CJN, Salami

10 SANs to probe CJN, Salami

section-logo.jpg News,    date-logo.jpg Wednesday, February 23, 2011

By DAYO BENSON, CLIFFORD NDUJIHE, DAPO AKINREFON & IKECHUKWU NNOCHIRI

LAGOS-THE Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, yesterday constituted a 13-man committee, comprising 10 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, to probe allegations of corruption levelled against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami.

JUSTICE1[1].jpg?width=400

blank.gif

This came even as leading lawyers in the country were divided on what would be the fate of Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Rauf Aregbesola of Osun; if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP's allegations that the court decisions that brought them power were fraudulently obtained.

In the face-off between Justice Salami and Justice Katsina-Alu, the President of the Court of Appeal had accused the Chief Justice of asking him to compromise in the Sokoto gubernatorial appeal case before the appellate court.

Empowering of committee

The NBA which has vowed to get to the root of the matter, empowered the committee to take a holistic appraisal of the debilitating corruption eating into and corroding the entire judicial system, as well as to fish out legal practitioners that promote corruption in varieties of ways in the system.

NBA National President, Joseph Bodunrin Daudu, SAN, said in a statement in Abuja: "Pursuant to the resolution of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association made at Awka, Anambra State on February 17, 2011, I have, in my capacity as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, been directed to set up a high_powered committee to investigate and report back to NBA_NEC the following:

"CJN/PCA face_off, debilitating corruption eating into and corroding the entire judicial system and legal practitioners who promote corruption in a variety of ways in the system.

"In compliance with the said NEC directives/resolution, I hereby appoint the following eminent persons as members of the above described NBA committee. They are: Chief T.J.O. Okpoko, SAN, Chairman; Chief Bamidele Aiku, SAN; Mr. Idowu Sofola, SAN; Dr. S.S. Ameh, SAN; Mr. O.C.J. Okocha, SAN; Mr. E.J.J. Toro, SAN; Chief Assam. Assam, SAN; Professor G. O. Olawoyin, SAN; Mr. Marcus Yarkasuwa Saleh, SAN' Mr. Obi Ulasi, SAN; Alhaji M. U. Ibrahim, and Mrs. Stella Ugboma as members, while Mr. Ebenezer Obeya will serve as the secretary.

NBA secretariat on high alert

"The Secretariat of the NBA has been put on high alert to ensure that the activities of the committee proceeds unhindered. Finally, the Chairman of the committee will as expeditiously as possible fix a date (preferably within this week) for a commencement of the committee's activities.

The committee will regulate its activities and within the shortest possible time, submit its report to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, who will in turn forward it to NEC/NBA for it to deal with as it pleases."

It will be recalled that it was only last week that the Appeal Court President, Salami, withdrew a legal action he instituted against the CJN before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Though he premised his decision on "the intervention of well meaning Nigerians and stakeholders in the justice sector," NBA insisted that it would investigate the authenticity of the facts personally deposed to by the litigant in an affidavit he filed in support of the withdrawn suit.

On petitions filed by the PDP against Justice Salami, while most of the lawyers said the court judgments could not be overturned because the Court of Appeal was the last court for governorship and National Assembly polls petitions before the last constitution amendment, others contended that a court of higher authority could order a retrial of the cases.

However, they all deplored the raging scandals ravaging the judiciary and urged high-powered probe and sanctioning of those found culpable.

PDP petition

The PDP in Osun and Ekiti had in a letter dated February 16, 2011 asked security agencies and the National Judicial Council, NJC, to unravel the purport of alleged inappropriate communications between President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami and leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and their lawyers, which they alleged influenced the judgements which brought AC governorship candidates to power in Ekiti and Osun States in October 15 and November 26, 2010 respectively.

Before the judgments the PDP had the governors of both states (Segun Oni, Ekiti; and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Osun).

Speaking on the allegations in petitions against Justice Salami by the PDP, Mr. Bamidele Aturu said Nigerians were in interesting times with the political elite heating up the polity.

However, as per the law that guided the 2007 governorship election, he noted: "Once the Court of Appeal has given a judgment there is nothing anybody can do about it. The decision on Ekiti and Osun is final but if the justices are found culpable, they can be dealt with individually."

Decrying the deteriorating rot in the judiciary, he canvassed "a wholesale probe of the Judiciary," saying: "Let's look at the issues, let the EFCC and ICPC get busy, get to the bottom of the allegations and prosecute those found culpable. If the allegations are frivolous, the people peddling them should be dealt with."

Speaking in like manner, Chief Ayo Adebanjo lamented that the rumour had been on for while and urged purification of the Judiciary to save the country.

"The rumour has been going on for sometime. That is why I said there should be an inquiry. They should set up a panel made up of competent retired judges to look into the matter.

There should be a process to purify the Judiciary otherwise we are finished in this country because the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man."

On what would happen if indeed the judgments were fraudulently obtained, Adebanjo said much would depend on the findings of the investigating panel.

Fraudulent judgment

He contended: "If the judgment is fraudulent, they can order for a retrial. Although, there is no appeal on governorship election after the Court of Appeal, when they discover that the judgement is fraudulent, a court of higher authority can order a retrial."

In his reaction, constitutional lawyer, Prof Itse Sagay, rose in defence of President of the Court of Appeal Justice Ayo Salami, saying that those who have accused him of compromising in Osun and Ekiti states governorship appeal petitions should provide evidence just as he stated that Justice Salami was incorruptible Prof Sagay who spoke against the background of the petitions noted that since the Court of Appeal was the final court in appeal in governorship petition, (prior to recent amendments of the 1999 constitution) the judgment in the two cases could not be tampered with by any other court.

He said that any person in the position of President of Court of Appeal or Chief Justice of Nigeria has a lot of interaction with lawyers and such exchanges certainly have nothing to do with the cases before them.

Sagay said: "In any case, Justice Salami is not the type of judge anyone can corrupt. So those who are making the allegation that he might have been compromised should come forward with their evidence. He stated that Justice Salami was not a member of appeal panel in Osun governorship election petition, so the issue of being compromised does not arise.

Court of Appeal upturning itself

"It is impossible for the Court of Appeal to upturn itself. The Court of Appeal is the final Court of Appeal on governorship petition cases and its decision is final. You cannot go against it for whatsoever reasons.

Its decision cannot be set aside by any court, that matter is finished permanently. Let me put it this way, personally, it is impossible for Justice Salami to be involved in any case of perversion of justice.

"Let me also put in hypothetical manner. Supposing Justices of the Court of Appeal are influenced into giving decisions on the governorship petition, which amounts to perversion of justice, I want to put it in that general way. When it comes to election matters as relating to a governor, the Court of Appeal is the final court in that matter; but once you establish a case of perversion of justice or corruption, if you make a case or a petition, it will be investigated. If the case is established upon investigation, such judges will be removed."

A prominent Lagos lawyer who preferred anonymity argued that some of the lawyers mentioned in the petition appeared for both PDP and ACN candidates. In their petitions, it was possible they had telephone exchanges with some of the judges involved. He, however, asked on whose behalf such conversations were made adding: "Were such calls made on behalf of PDP or ACN candidates?"

According to him, Lateef Fagbemi SAN was counsel to both former Governor Olusegun Agagu and Governor Rotimi Amechi; Yusuff Ali, SAN was counsel to Governor Fayemi and former Governor Olagonsoye Oyinlola ; Niyi Akintola, SAN was counsel to Agagu and Fayemi; He said Emeka Ngige SAN was mentioned because he is a younger brother of Chris Ngige, a chieftain of ACN.

Abuja based lawyer, Ugochukwu Osuagwu in his contribution said: "I am aware that Justice Salami was queried by the NJC over allegations that he compromised standard in the Ekiti State governorship appeal. The truth is that he is a civil servant under the employ of the Federal Government and should, therefore, be held accountable over any allegation of misdemeanour raised against him.

As a civil servant, procedures laid down under the civil service should apply to him, which I think the NJC should enforce. The underlying controversies should equally be looked into, maybe he has declined to respond to the query due to pending cases in Court or there could be other reasons as well.

Nobody is beyond reproach; if the NJC can furnish enough evidence against him then he can be sanctions with or without his response. Until the allegations are proved he should be deemed innocent. We must be very careful in accepting every allegation against judicial officers or judge's especially when politicians make them."

Chief Nkereuwem Akpan, Human Rights Activist, said "the NJC is statutorily enamoured with powers to investigate and if need be sanction erring judicial officers. We are told that it was the intervention of the NJC that prevailed on justice Salami to discontinue his suit against CJN.

Now because the CJN is the chairman of the NJC and with the sordid, disgraceful and embarrassing allegations and counter allegations flying all over the place from both sides, who will chair the NJC during the hearings as the CJN cannot be a judge in his own case. Sadly, one of these respected jurists is not telling the truth and that is how low our judiciary has sunk, most regrettably.

ACN's reaction

ACN in its own reaction warned the PDP and the colluding top federal government officials not to throw Nigeria into an avoidable crisis over their desperation to reverse the Appeal Court judgements on the Ekiti and Osun governorship election petitions."

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, Ogun state on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the Appeal Court judgments in the cases are final, irrespective of what the ousted usurper governors are being told by their starry_eyed advisers or the buttons they are pressing at the Federal Government level.

''Despite the clandestine meetings in the highest echelon of the PDP and also involving some top officials of the federal government, the PDP cannot re_write the Nigerian Constitution just because the rulings in these cases did not favour them.

Heavens did not fall when other parties lost to the PDP in many other election petition cases. And heavens will not fall now that the PDP has lost the cases in Ekiti and Osun, where the rigging party did not win anyway."

''As we said earlier, the cases are not final because they are infallible, but they are infallible because they are final. The sooner the PDP understands this, the better for everyone.

There is no point trying to bring down the entire judiciary just because they lost cases they could not have won, on the strength of the available evidence,'' it said.

ACN warned, however, that should the PDP think it can re_open the cases and overturn the judgements, then it should be ready for an epic battle, the end of which no one can predict, and the consequences of which can only be imagined.

''We have the strength of character, the courage and the conviction to mount a sustained campaign in defence of justice, and in defence of our mandate. We will not surrender a mandate freely given to us by the people, which was evident in the massive jubilation that greeted the rulings of the Appeal Court in both Ekiti and Osun states,'' the party said.

Commenting on the MTN call logs insinuating a deal between ACN chieftains/lawyers and Justice Ayo Salami, as contained in the petitions by Messrs Segun Oni and Osun PDP chieftain, Sunday Ojo_Williams, the party dismissed them as ''selective perception'', designed to muddle the waters.

It said: ''If the petitioners and their sponsors want to really convince Nigerians about their allegations, they should be courageous enough to publish all the call logs of Justice Salami during the period in question, so that all can see all the calls that Justice Salami received during the period.

''The fact that Justice Salami is the President of the Court of Appeal does not mean he will not have a social life, or that people can no longer call him. Can't his friends, acquaintances or others even call to invite him to social sessions like weddings, birthdays and burials? Do such calls _ even if they are from party members _ automatically translate to seeking undue favour? Why publish only calls from a few people when all the call logs during that period should have been published for all to see? This selective perception will not help the petitioners in their lost cause,'' ACN said.

Top 10 Reasons Small Businesses Fail

One of the least understood aspects of entrepreneurship is why small businesses fail, and there's a simple reason for the confusion: Most of the evidence comes from the entrepreneurs themselves.

I have had a close-up view of numerous business failures -- including a few start-ups of my own. And from my observation, the reasons for failure cited by the owners are frequently off-point, which kind of makes sense when you think about it. If the owners really knew what they were doing wrong, they might have been able to fix the problem. Often, it's simply a matter of denial or of not knowing what you don't know.

In many cases, the customers -- or, I should say, ex-customers -- have a better understanding than the owners of what wasn't working. The usual suspects that the owners tend to blame are the bank, the government, or the idiot partner. Rarely does the owner's finger point at the owner. Of course, there are cases where something out of the owner's control has gone terribly wrong, but I have found those instances to be in the minority. What follows -- based on my own experiences and observations -- are my top 10 reasons small businesses fail. The list is not pretty, it is not simple, and it does not contain any of those usual suspects (although they might come in at Nos. 11, 12 and 13).

1. The math just doesn't work. There is not enough demand for the product or service at a price that will produce a profit for the company. This, for example, would include a start-up trying to compete against Best Buy and its economies of scale.

2. Owners who cannot get out of their own way. They may be stubborn, risk adverse, conflict adverse -- meaning they need to be liked by everyone (even employees and vendors who can't do their jobs). They may be perfectionist, greedy, self-righteous, paranoid, indignant, or insecure. You get the idea. Sometimes, you can even tell these owners the problem, and they will recognize that you are right -- but continue to make the same mistakes over and over...

3. Out-of-control growth. This one might be the saddest of all reasons for failure -- a successful business that is ruined by over-expansion. This would include moving into markets that are not as profitable, experiencing growing pains that damage the business, or borrowing too much money in an attempt to keep growth at a particular rate. Sometimes less is more.

4. Poor accounting. You cannot be in control of a business if you don't know what is going on. With bad numbers, or no numbers, a company is flying blind, and it happens all of the time. Why? For one thing, it is a common -- and disastrous -- misconception that an outside accounting firm hired primarily to do the taxes will keep watch over the business. In reality, that is the job of the chief financial officer, one of the many hats an entrepreneur has to wear until a real one is hired.

5. Lack of a cash cushion. If we have learned anything from this recession (I know it's "over" but my customers don't seem to have gotten the memo), it's that business is cyclical and that bad things can and will happen over time -- the loss of an important customer or critical employee, the arrival of a new competitor, the filing of a lawsuit. These things can all stress the finances of a company. If that company is already out of cash (and borrowing potential), it may not be able to recover.

6. Operational mediocrity. I have never met a business owner who described his or her operation as mediocre. But we can't all be above average. Repeat and referral business is critical for most businesses, as is some degree of marketing (depending on the business).

7. Operational inefficiencies. Paying too much for rent, labor, and materials. Now more than ever, the lean companies are at an advantage. Not having the tenacity or stomach to negotiate terms that are reflective of today's economy may leave a company uncompetitive.

8. Dysfunctional management. Lack of focus, vision, planning, standards and everything else that goes into good management. Throw fighting partners or unhappy relatives into the mix, and you have a disaster.

9. The lack of a succession plan. We're talking nepotism, power struggles, significant players being replaced by people who are in over their heads -- all reasons many family businesses do not make it to the next generation.

10. A declining market. Book stores, music stores, printing businesses and many others are dealing with changes in technology, consumer demand, and competition from huge companies with more buying power and advertising dollars.

In life, you may have forgiving friends and relatives, but entrepreneurship is rarely forgiving. Eventually, everything shows up in the soup. If people don't like the soup, employees stop working for you, and customers stop doing business with you. And that is why businesses fail.

Jay Goltz owns five small businesses in Chicago.

10,000 bootleg DVDs of 'Nollywood' Nigerian movies seized inBrooklyn

More than 10,000 bootleg DVDs of popular Nigerian movieshave been seized this week after complaints from "Nollywood" film execs aboutrampant piracy in Brooklyn.

The pirated DVDs were found at nine stores inthe borough, along with several high volume disc duplicators, said DistrictAttorney Charles Hynes.

"The sale of bootleg and counterfeit goodsdeprives the city and state of New York of millions of dollars in sales taxrevenue," Hynes said yesterday.

"And it deprives the artists who madethe movies of their well-deserved proceeds."

The Nigerian film industry, known globally as "Nollywood," is extremely prolific, second only to India'sBollywood in terms of the number of films made.

Most are straight to DVDor TV, but extremely popular throughout the African continent...

Thatpopularity has followed to the communities of immigrants from Africa in theUnited States, where they are legally sold in DVD form for $5 apiece while thefakes sell for $3 each.

Among the titles recovered in the sweep this pastweek are feature films like "Material Girl," "Mind Games," the "Governor's Gift"and "Stolen Will."

The last few weeks have been a nightmare for President Obama, in a summer of discontent in the United States which has deeply unsettled the ruling liberal elites, so much so that even the Left has begun to turn against the White House. While the anti-establishment Tea Party movement has gained significant ground and is now a rising and powerful political force to be reckoned with, many of the president’s own supporters as well as independents are rapidly losing faith in Barack Obama, with open warfare breaking out between the White House and the left-wing of the Democratic Party. While conservatism in America grows stronger by the day, the forces of liberalism are growing increasingly weaker and divided.

Against this backdrop, the president’s approval ratings have been sliding dramatically all summer, with the latest Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll of US voters dropping to minus 22 points, the lowest point so far for Barack Obama since taking office. While just 24 per cent of American voters strongly approve of the president’s job performance, almost twice that number, 46 per cent, strongly disapprove. According to Rasmussen, 65 per cent of voters believe the United States is going down the wrong track, including 70 per cent of independents.

obamasings1.jpg

The RealClearPolitics average of polls now has President Obama at over 50 per cent disapproval, a remarkably high figure for a president just 18 months into his first term. Strikingly, the latest USA Today/Gallup survey has the President on just 41 per cent approval, with 53 per cent disapproving.

Related link: The Obama presidency increasingly resembles a modern-day Ancien Régime

There are an array of reasons behind the stunning decline and political fall of President Obama, chief among them fears over the current state of the US economy, with widespread concern over high levels of unemployment, the unstable housing market, and above all the towering budget deficit. Americans are increasingly rejecting President Obama’s big government solutions to America’s economic woes, which many fear will lead to the United States sharing the same fate as Greece.

Growing disillusionment with the Obama administration’s handling of the economy as well as health care and immigration has gone hand in hand with mounting unhappiness with the President’s aloof and imperial style of leadership, and a growing perception that he is out of touch with ordinary Americans, especially at a time of significant economic pain. Barack Obama’s striking absence of natural leadership ability (and blatant lack of experience) has played a big part in undermining his credibility with the US public, with his lacklustre handling of the Gulf oil spill coming under particularly intense fire.

On the national security and foreign policy front, President Obama has not fared any better. His leadership on the war in Afghanistan has been confused and at times lacking in conviction, and seemingly dictated by domestic political priorities rather than military and strategic goals. His overall foreign policy has been an appalling mess, with his flawed strategy of engagement of hostile regimes spectacularly backfiring. And as for the War on Terror, his administration has not even acknowledged it is fighting one.

Can it get any worse for President Obama? Undoubtedly yes. Here are 10 key reasons why the Obama presidency is in serious trouble, and why its prospects are unlikely to improve between now and the November mid-terms.

1. The Obama presidency is out of touch with the American people

In a previous post I noted how the Obama presidency increasingly resembles a modern-day Ancien Régime, extravagant, decaying and out of touch with ordinary Americans. The First Lady’s ill-conceived trip to Spain at a time of widespread economic hardship was symbolic of a White House that barely gives a second thought to public opinion on many issues, and frequently projects a distinctly elitist image. The “let them eat cake” approach didn’t play well over two centuries ago, and it won’t succeed today.

2. Most Americans don’t have confidence in the president’s leadership

This deficit of trust in Obama’s leadership is central to his decline. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, “nearly six in ten voters say they lack faith in the president to make the right decisions for the country”, and two thirds “say they are disillusioned with or angry about the way the federal government is working.” The poll showed that a staggering 58 per cent of Americans say they do not have confidence in the president’s decision-making, with just 42 per cent saying they do.

3. Obama fails to inspire

In contrast to the soaring rhetoric of his 2004 Convention speech in Boston which succeeded in impressing millions of television viewers at the time, America is no longer inspired by Barack Obama’s flat, monotonous and often dull presidential speeches and statements delivered via teleprompter. From his extraordinarily uninspiring Afghanistan speech at West Point to his flat State of the Union address, President Obama has failed to touch the heart of America. Even Jimmy Carter was more moving.

4. The United States is drowning in debt

The Congressional Budget Office Long-Term Budget Outlook offers a frightening picture of the scale of America’s national debt. Under its alternative fiscal scenario, the CBO projects that US debt could rise to 87 percent of GDP by 2020, 109 percent by 2025, and 185 percent in 2035. While much of Europe, led by Britain and Germany, are aggressively cutting their deficits, the Obama administration is actively growing America’s debt, and has no plan in place to avert a looming Greek-style financial crisis.

5. Obama’s Big Government message is falling flat

The relentless emphasis on bailouts and stimulus spending has done little to spur economic growth or create jobs, but has greatly advanced the power of the federal government in America. This is not an approach that is proving popular with the American public, and even most European governments have long ditched this tax and spend approach to saving their own economies.

6. Obama’s support for socialised health care is a huge political mistake

In an extraordinary act of political Harakiri, President Obama leant his full support to the hugely controversial, unpopular and divisive health care reform bill, with a monstrous price tag of $940 billion, whose repeal is now supported by 55 per cent of likely US voters. As I wrote at the time of its passing, the legislation is “a great leap forward by the United States towards a European-style vision of universal health care, which will only lead to soaring costs, higher taxes, and a surge in red tape for small businesses. This reckless legislation dramatically expands the power of the state over the lives of individuals, and could not be further from the vision of America’s founding fathers.”

7. Obama’s handling of the Gulf oil spill has been weak-kneed and indecisive

While much of the spilled oil in the Gulf has now been thankfully cleared up, the political damage for the White House will be long-lasting. Instead of showing real leadership on the matter by acing decisively and drawing upon offers of international support, the Obama administration settled on a more convenient strategy of relentlessly bashing an Anglo-American company while largely sitting on its hands. Significantly, a poll of Louisiana voters gave George W. Bush higher marks for his handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, with 62 percent disapproving of Obama’s performance on the Gulf oil spill.

8. US foreign policy is an embarrassing mess under the Obama administration

It is hard to think of a single foreign policy success for the Obama administration, but there have been plenty of missteps which have weakened American global power as well as the standing of the United States. The surrender to Moscow on Third Site missile defence, the failure to aggressively stand up to Iran’s nuclear programme, the decision to side with ousted Marxists in Honduras, the slap in the face for Great Britain over the Falklands, have all contributed to the image of a US administration completely out of its depth in international affairs. The Obama administration’s high risk strategy of appeasing America’s enemies while kicking traditional US allies has only succeeded in weakening the United States while strengthening her adversaries.

9. President Obama is muddled and confused on national security

From the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to the War on Terror, President Obama’s leadership has often been muddled and confused. On Afghanistan he rightly sent tens of thousands of additional troops to the battlefield. At the same time however he bizarrely announced a timetable for the withdrawal of US forces beginning in July 2011, handing the initiative to the Taliban. On Iraq he has announced an end to combat operations and the withdrawal of all but 50,000 troops despite a recent upsurge in terrorist violence and political instability, and without the Iraqi military and police ready to take over. In addition he has ditched the concept of a War on Terror, replacing it with an Overseas Contingency Operation, hardly the right message to send in the midst of a long-war against Al-Qaeda...

10. Obama doesn’t believe in American greatness

Barack Obama has made it clear that he doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism, and has made apologising for his country into an art form. In a speech to the United Nations last September he stated that “no one nation can or should try to dominate another nation. No world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will succeed. No balance of power among nations will hold.” It is difficult to see how a US president who holds these views and does not even accept America’s greatness in history can actually lead the world’s only superpower with force and conviction.

There is a distinctly Titanic-like feel to the Obama presidency and it’s not hard to see why. The most left-wing president in modern American history has tried to force a highly interventionist, government-driven agenda that runs counter to the principles of free enterprise, individual freedom, and limited government that have made the United States the greatest power in the world, and the freest nation on earth.

This, combined with weak leadership both at home and abroad against the backdrop of tremendous economic uncertainty in an increasingly dangerous world, has contributed to a spectacular political collapse for a president once thought to be invincible. America at its core remains a deeply conservative nation, which cherishes its traditions and founding principles. President Obama is increasingly out of step with the American people, by advancing policies that undermine the United States as a global power, while undercutting America’s deep-seated love for freedom.

Cameron welcomes gay celebrities to Number 10

David Cameron pledged his support for gay rights tonight before jokingly referring to his deputy, Nick Clegg, as 'my own civil partner'.

Gay celebrities and members of the Armed Forces partied at Number 10 as Mr Cameron became the first Tory Prime Minister to reach out to the gay community.

BBC newsreader Jane Hill and Today presenter Evan Davis were among almost 200 guests invited to the Downing Street drinks party.

Others included former Coronation Street actress Amanda Barrie, journalist Matthew Parris, and singer Duncan James, of the boy band Blue.

Gay representatives of all three branches of the Armed Forces also attended, in full uniform.

The event was designed to help reposition the new Government as a champion of equality after decades in which the Conservatives have been accused of anti-gay prejudice.

The Tories' bid for the so-called 'pink vote' was derailed during the election when the then Shadow Home Secretary Chris Grayling said Christian B&B should have the right to refuse accommodation to gay couples. His comments outraged gay activists. After the election Mr Grayling missed out on a seat in Cabinet.

But a source said it was also a sign of the coalition Government's commitment to equal rights.

Mr Cameron told guests that he backed 'equal rights and equal treatment', adding: 'I'm standing here as leader of the Conservative Party that has not always got that right.'

Guest Rosey Cox, from Nottingham Pride, said she thought her invitation was a hoax when it first arrived.

She said: 'I just do Pride. I didn't know what it meant to so many people.'

The event was held as the Government unveiled a 'Transgender Action Plan' to crack down on discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals.

Proposals-include allowing gay civil partnerships to take place in religious buildings, but stop short of allowing 'gay marriage' - a key demand of some activists.

With Mr Clegg by his side, Mr Cameron said he wanted civil partnerships to be carried out in places of worship if possible, adding: 'We shouldn't have this legalistic nonsense getting in the way of people who want to celebrate their civil partnership in churches.'

Guest Antony Cotton, who plays gay character Sean Tully in Coronation Street, was there as an ambassador of The Albert Kennedy Trust, which helps homeless gay teenagers.

He said: 'It was set up after a young boy died in Manchester.

'He was homeless and was being chased by what you would now call homophobic bullies and he was chased to the top of a car park and jumped off.

'The trust helps young people all over the country who are homeless after coming out.'

Lesson #1.

Just because I sin and mess up doesn’t make God’s truth any less true.

Lesson #2

Just because it hurts to hear the truth, do not assume that the truth is an unfair judgment of your own or anyone else’s lifestyle.

Lesson #3

Get used to the idea that when your life is held up to the Standard the Bible presents, you WILL fall short of the mark. Therefore the truth(judgment) you do not like from lesson #2 is always fair because lesson #1 IS STILL not changed even if you think truth=judgment.

Lesson #4

The only way we can truly expect freedom from judgment is by living our lives identical to the life Christ led.

Lesson #5

NOT ONE of us CAN or will live our lives identical of Christ, so we are still found lacking under what we learn in lesson #2 because lesson #1 is STILL True.

Lesson #6

Because I cannot meet the expectations of lesson #4, and because lesson #1 is STILL true, There is nothing I can do to escape the truth of Lesson #2.

Lesson #7
In light of lesson #6, if I do not want to face judgment, I must find something with-in God’s truth to free me of the judgement.

Lesson #8
Since Lesson #1 is STILL true, even if I am a sinner, if God’s word shows us a way to escape judgement it must work because Lesson #1 is STILL true.

Lesson #9
God’s word claims that Jesus took my sins and shame. Since Lesson #1 was STILL true when Jesus took my sin and shame, he became able to take my judgment for me leaving me(us) in his place, which is judgment free..

Lesson #10
Praise God for Lesson #9, because if it isn’t true, I would still be trying to figure a way out of Lesson #6.

A total of 10 youths have been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to smuggle 12.33kg of narcotics out of the country..

A statement by the spokesman of the agency, Mr. Ofoyeju Mitchell, on Sunday also revealed that drug barons were now targeting Nigerians living in Europe, because they possessed travel documents.

The NDLEA stated that apart from two of the suspects residing in Lagos, the others were residents of European nations. It said that 12.33kg consisted of 1.115kg heroin and 11.215kg of cocaine.

The Airport Commander of the NDLEA, Alhaji Hamza Umar, gave the names of the suspects as Osaze Monday, 37, who allegedly ingested 60 pieces of cocaine weighing 1.010kg; Izevbokun Kelvin, 22, who ingested 111 pieces of cocaine weighing 1.610kg; Joe Favour, 26, who ingested 82 pieces of cocaine weighing 1.300kg; Nwodo Oscar,34, who swallowed 95 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.515kg; and Chinedu Okeke,40, who swallowed 69 wraps of heroin weighing 1.115kg.

Others are Obarisiagbon Marvis, 32 who ingested 77 pieces of cocaine weighing 1.445kg; Liasu Ajadi, 41,who ingested 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.190kg; Ejiro Henry,19, who ingested 73 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.285kg; Lever Ehigie,21, who ingested 66 pieces of cocaine weighing 900 grammes; and Omorose Kingsley,28 that swallowed 960 grammes of cocaine.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer, NDLEA, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, in a goodwill message on Democracy Day charged youths to shun for illicit wealth.

He charged youths to take advantage of the numerous windows of opportunities in the economy to reposition themselves for leadership responsibilities.

Giade, who identified indiscipline and greed as the factors responsible for the involvement of youths in narcotics trafficking, urged them to “positively rebrand” themselves.

“Drug traffickers usually act on impulse as a result of greed and indiscipline. Unfortunately, many only have a re-think after they had been caught,” the NDLEA boss stated.

From the photo it is clear that one of the boys is black I hope say no be naija man pickin !

An eight-year-old girl cuddled her teddy bear and cried as she told a jury in a recorded interview that she had been raped by two ten-year-old boys.

The defendants sat with their mothers in the well of a courtroom as the recording was played at the Old Bailey yesterday. The girl, who was interviewed by specially trained police, said that the boys had refused to return her scooter unless she did what they demanded. She said that they led her from a lift at a block of flats to a bin shed, then a hedge, and exposed themselves and raped her.

Wiping away tears, she said that while it was happening she had thought about going to a sweet shop with her mother.

She said that on the day it happened, in October, she had been playing with her younger sister and a five-year-old friend when the boys approached and led her away. They told her to pull down her underwear, warning that she wouldn’t get her “scooter from the bush” if she didn’t

Sometimes rushing her sentences, the girl said: “Then they took me and my friend downstairs to the bin shed and they put the bins near the entrance so we couldn’t get out. We wanted to go out but they wouldn’t let us. They put the bins so no one could see us.”

Rosina Cottage, for the prosecution, said that the girl’s mother had been told by her younger daughter, who returned home alone, that the two boys had been “hurting her”. The alleged victim’s mother and younger sister went to look for her and came across the mother of the younger defendant and a five-year-old playmate.

When the boy’s mother asked the little boy where her son was, “he said that he was in a nearby field and that he was with her and that he was hurting her”, the prosecution said.

He pointed to the field and they went to find the children. The girl’s mother went into the field in Hayes, West London, but could not find her. “As she was walking out she saw her with the boys and asked what they had been doing. They all said nothing,” Ms Cottage said.

The mother asked for her daughter’s scooter back from the younger defendant. As they walked home, the woman “could see things were not right with her daughter”. It is claimed that the girl later told her mother what had happened and the police were called.

The judge and three barristers in the case are appearing without their usual wigs and gowns because the defendants and alleged victim are so young. Mr Justice Saunders has also moved from the raised judge’s bench to the lower court clerk’s seat. The sitting hours will be shortened.

The two boys often discreetly asked their mothers or solicitors questions and occasionally pointed at the screens used to show maps and CCTV footage of the area. The girl was introduced to the jury via a video link from an anteroom of the court after the taped recordings had been played.

Opening the case, Ms Cottage said that after the alleged attack the girl was taken to hospital complaining of stomach pains, and scratches and grazes were found. When officers interviewed the older boy he denied raping the girl and blamed the other, who said nothing to the police.

Both boys deny two charges of rape and two of attempted rape. The trial continues.

C' River: Female teacher, 10 men detained in one cell …Petitions Army Command over illegal detention, torture
From JUDEX OKORO, Calabar
.
A female school teacher, Mrs. Etta- Bassey Ephraim, was made to pass through the valley of death as she was detained in a military cell for eight hours with 10 men. Some of the men, she said, displayed signs of lunacy and violence, sending shivers down her spine.

Narrating her ordeals to Daily Sun, Mrs. Ephraim, a History at Army Day Secondary School, Ikot Ansa, Calabar, Cross River State, stated that she was so terribly frightened and depressed that the male inmates could rape her at any slightest opportunity.

She said, “ I was shocked to the bone marrow when I was put in the same cell with these hefty men; I asked myself what offence did I commit to warrant such torture, human debasement and treatment from the Commanding Officer whose duty it is to ensure my protection in the barracks. But thank God that after eight gory hours, my husband and my principal were able to effect my release from the gallows,” adding, the experience has worsened my health condition because it was the biggest nightmare I have ever had in my life.”

In a petition, entitled, “Petition against the Commanding Officer, 146, Battalion, Eburutu Barracks, Calabar, for an illegal detention in military guardroom,” and addressed to the General Officer Commanding 82, Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Cross River State House of Assembly and Commissioner for education, the petitioner stated that since she joined the secondary education board and command school for over 14-years now, she had never had any case of indiscipline or problem whatsoever in the various schools served and, therefore, wondered why she could be subjected to such a treatment.

Mrs. Ephraim, who described her detention as illegal confinement and breach of fundamental human rights by the military authorities, is demanding an unreserved apology and that the Commander of 146, Battalion, Eburutu barracks, Calabar, Lt.Col.K.N. Garuba, be cautioned for an alleged misbehaviour and inhuman treatment meted out to her for no just cause.

According to her, the incident that led to her detention was as a result of her trying to intervene in a matter between one of her colleagues, Mrs. Theresa Egrinya, and the Commanding Officer, Lt.Col. Garuba, on Saturday, March 2, 2010 at about 10:45 am in the school compound. Explaining further, she said, “We were in school with some of my colleagues for a re-scheduled examination for students. After the examination, we were outside the school, discussing the Army Day African Cup of Nations, a football tournament of the school when a motorbike pulled up in front of us.”

Looking agitated, the rider started shouting at one of the teachers, Mrs. Theresa Egrinya, saying, “madam you sent your son to knock me down, pack out of my barracks, I own this barracks.” On hearing this, she claimed, the madam fell on her knees and pleaded for mercy and in the process the school principal joined in pleading for leniency, an action which further infuriated the officer.

“Not yet satisfied, the army officer went ahead to order me out of the barracks for daring to interfere in the matter. And before I could get my things out of my office, he ordered one of the soldiers on guard to escort me to pack my things and lock me up in the guardroom.

In an emotion laden tone, she therefore, called on the relevant military authorities and the Cross River House of Assembly to intervene in the matter and caution Garuba against such action.

Hundreds of Nigerians gathered in the capital Abuja on Wednesday for a march to the presidency to demand the appearance of ailing leader Umaru Yar'Adua, two weeks after he returned from a Saudi hospital.

jpeg&STREAMOID=aHreR5nnEZgrsbD4jiK6Bi6SYeqqxXXqBcOgKOfTXxSTtGSWu82iUfRxukIdYdU8nW_PgxgftuECOcfJwS6Jtlp$r8Fy$6AAZ9zyPuHJ25T7a9GKDSxsGxtpmxP0VAUyHL6IDcZHtmM2t7xO$FHdJG95dFi6y2Uma3vSsvPpVyo-

The 58-year-old leader has not been seen in public since being flown back after three months of treatment in Jeddah for a heart condition. There have been no announcements on his health but presidency sources say he remains in intensive care.

His return while still too frail to govern raised fears that his inner circle of aides, led by his wife Turai, would fight to maintain their influence over Africa's most populous nation and seek to undermine Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

A power struggle at the top of the OPEC member nation of 140 million people could bring paralysis in government decision-making, threatening an amnesty programme in the oil-producing Niger Delta and stalling momentum on reforms.

Several hundred people, many wearing T-shirts with "Save Nigeria Group" on the front and "Enough is Enough" on the back, gathered near to a city centre hotel under the watch of police officers lining the avenue.

"We want the invisible president to be revoked. We are tired of a president we can't see, who can't govern. We want to see him," Babatunde Ogala, a politician from the commercial capital Lagos, told the gathering crowd.

"If we can't see him we want someone else who is allowed to govern. Why is a cabal controlling our country," he said.

Officials organising the march said they planned to walk to Aso Rock, the presidential villa, and hand a letter of protest to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who co-ordinates between the presidency and government ministries.

"Turai, leave Nigeria alone" and "Jonathan get decisive now" were among the banners held up above the crowd.

A police spokesman addressed the protesters, pledging that the security forces were there to protect them and would help them carry their message "in a peaceful manner". He said officers were not carrying tear gas or weapons.

Such political demonstrations are relatively rare in Nigeria, where the vast majority of people get by on $2 a day or less and feel politics is a game played by multi-millionaires whose outcome has little effect on their daily lives.

Similar marches in recent months have passed peacefully.

Should Yar'Adua be formally declared too sick to govern, or resign or die, Jonathan would be sworn in as head of state and complete the unexpired presidential term, which runs to May next year, with a new vice president.

The demonstrators are also demanding electoral reforms to avoid the sort of chaos seen in the 2007 polls which brought Yar'Adua to power, a vote so marred by ballot-stuffing and intimidation that observers said it was not credible.

My new tall, dark and handsome boyfriend was standing across the room looking so fine in his shirt; I couldn't take my eyes off him. It was my pal's birthday party and the first time I had ever dragged my latest man-friend out with my buddies. I wasn't sure how it would go, yet there he was, charming the pants off them all by himself, busting out his A-material small talk with some friends in a corner. He was doing his best to impress. It was very sweet. He was going all out for me. Meanwhile, I was at the snack table and before I could curse myself for leaving him to go in for another cheesy cracker, I was accosted by a buddy's wife I barely knew, a nasty woman named Sue. "How old is he?" she pried. After politely playing 20 questions with Sue about my new boyfriend, I knew this was the one she was getting at. I wanted to say something like, "He's not as old as those frown lines make you look!" Anything that would shut her up and let me enjoy my prized romance. Instead I shoved a cracker in my mouth and mulled over her question as I pretended it was hard to chew. It was more like her question was hard to swallow. Yes, my new man was older than me, much older than me. But I wasn't some gold digger trying to claw at his cash account, or even a woman with daddy issues. I just thought he was the hottest, funniest man I'd ever met. He was more exciting to be with than any of the 20-something guys I knew. I was smitten with his wit and the way he filled out a pair of pants. Really, are there better reasons to date someone? Should I seriously have let 15 years come between me and happiness, just so I could avoid judgment from girls like Sue? I really should have answered her question with the long list of truly great things about dating an older man. Cause lets face it there is only so much ‘benefit of the doubt’ to go round!* 1. Quality: I’m just saying my phone shoots better movies; even youtube weeps because nollywood is yet to achieve youtube standards. For a $250 million industry you’d expect someone to own some real equipment. Is it so hard to avoid (unintentionally) shaky/grainy pictures and the bad sound OMg the white noise.* 2. Skill: An almost accent should not be the some total of anyone’s acting arsenal.* 3. View: No creative angles, no interesting scenery and the general compositions are not even considered before anything is shot. I know I did not go to film school and neither did anyone in Nollywood. The room composition adds nothing to the story. It is not a metaphor for internal torment, or a foreshadowing of impending doom. It is all just blah and circumstantial. That’s why we just get the stationary overview of the room where people are talking, one-sided close-ups, fade to black and my favourite focus on unrelated inanimate object in the room. Classy.* 4. Character development: What is this character development of which you speak? You see in Nolly all stereotypes hold true. All stepmothers are evil, stepfathers are rich, uncles are all molesters, the poor are uneducated and anyone who has travelled abroad is not only wealthy, but also smart and good-looking. That why the only motivation for a character is the story in spite of everything that happed before. Forget past experiences, education and just be good or evil.* 5. Names: I guess Jessica and Sylvia are exotic names at least on this end and we appreciate their use and abuse. But seriously Beyonce, Rihanna, what are the odds? Even the actresses seem startled to addressed by these names. Please! Ignore the Bard, a Funmi by any other name is … well, not quite the same. Return to Adas and Mariams and lets get on with it. BTW as an added bonus, if you want to butcher any pronunciation you can get help from Nolly. Do they even do takes?* 6. Child stars: Sorry child bleeps [‘b’ words are such fun] they are never age appropriate. Is casting that difficult? Freaking read the script and then try to not hire your child or the children of anyone you know unless they actually fit the bill and can ACT. It is revolting to watch an overgrown child speaking in a fake sulky baby voice. To avoid this simply ask the auditioning bleeps to say the line and gage by how much you want to slap them, how appropriate they are for the part. It is also not cute when a small child stumbles (badly) through words she/he has never heard in a way that is meant to come across as innocent insight. A child would never use the word granule to describe the specks in her toothpaste. Closeup toothpaste, I’m looking at you.* 7. Use of words: On the rear occasion where you come across a worthwhile script it falls down to the actors to destroy it. Every other day of the week destruction begins with writers who make George Lucas’ romantic scenes less robotic. Sometimes they write as if they are actually translating from another language. This explains the reoccurrence of words that aren’t common in everyday use and the tendency for kids to sprout words only popular in medical journals.* 8. Sets, costumes and other disasters: Since acting is out of the question, a character must rely on his props to explain to the audience, who he really is. Luckily, Nolly is yet to run out of houses to parade in order to depict a just how vast a person’s wealth is. This is also unfortunate as the subtle art of styling a person according to their status is magic to dark even for Africa Magic. Just look at the décor and the clothes. No one seems capable of dressing the part. If they are so smart /travelled /rich /etc why are they dressed like idiots. NOBODY wears fishnet tops anymore, (well except for your average cross dressing stripper who prostitutes) ehm! Here’s an idea maybe you should hire someone to consult with on clothing decisions. Someone not already in the industry.* 9. Time: Time is Nollywood movie is measured by hair. You have your standard old man/women with powdered hairs that change from scene to scene. You have you standard extra with unchanging attachment [so your hair has remained the same for the past 6 years]. Then you have your main character with her treasure-trove of wigs.* 10. Prayer: Finally prayer is the answer to everything from possession, to lost persons and property. It can make even liars and murders forthcoming and force the materialization of whatever is needed, but only at the very last moment. The only unanswered prayers are mine; for better movies. The Nolly inner circle is more difficult to break into than Fort Knox and more pointless than a waterproof teabags. It’s the same set of people who write, star and direct. You can’t really fault them for making an easy living. Wait I guess I just did.excerpted from yamikas blog

10 People killed, 50 houses burnt in Edo kingship tussleThe tussle over the 'Aidonogie' stool in South Ibie clan in Etsako West Local Government area of Edo State took a bloody turn over the week end as supporters of the two claimants engaged themselves in a fight that left no fewer than 10 persons dead and over 50 houses and many cars burnt.Although, the police confirmed only two persons dead in the two-day battle, Daily Independent gathered that the communal war was still raging last night with women, children and the aged relocating to neighbouring towns and villages. It will be recalled that a Benin High Court, presided over by Justice M. O Ighodaro, on Wednesday restrained Edo State Government from presenting the staff of office to Kelvin Aliyu Danesi on May 23 or any other day pending the determination of a motion on notice brought before it by counsel to the plaintiffs, Roland Otaru (SAN).Chief Shaibu Imogere, Prince Abu Umoru, and Prince Yesufu Umoru, plaintiffs in the suit, filed the action for themselves and on behalf of the Ogiator branch of Okhokho ruling house.Reports had it that despite the court order, the Aidonogie palace was still putting every arrangement in place for the governor to perform the ceremony on May 23 and this was said to have provoked supporters of the other factionReacting to the latest development, however, Danesi told newsmen that the crisis was fueled by the chairman of the Estako West Local council, Gani Audu.He insisted that Oshiomhole did not recognize him because they were friends, adding that successive regimes of Lucky Igbinedion who presented him with the staff of office and Prof. Osunbor have already recognized him as the ruler of the townBut the Vice-Chairman of the local government. Jimoh Omogbeni, denied the accusation, insisting that as the chief security officer of the council, the chairman was out to ensure that peace and order were maintained in the area.In another development, 17 persons were on Sunday killed on the Lagos-Benin Expressway when a Toyota Hiace commuter bus plunged into Aden River near Okada Town in Edo State. This is coming barely 48 hours after 60 persons were similarly roasted inside a luxury bus on Benin-Auchi-Abuja Expressway.Daily Independent gathered that the Benin bound vehicle which took off from Ojota Motor Park in Lagos had a head-on collision while struggling the with a truck belonging to a construction firm which was carrying out repairs on the road. The bus, said to be carrying 20 persons made up of 17 males, one female and two children, then lunged into the river. The three survivors in the accident were rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).As at press time, officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) were still busy trying to recover the bus from the river. Some of the recovered bdies were deposited at the UBTH mortuary. The luxury bus that claimed 60 lives on Friday, according to reports, was heading to Onitsha from Sokoto when it collided with a broken down tanker conveying diesel oil.
