12166298501?profile=originalFive persons have been reportedly killed at the weekend while several others were seriously injured in a bloody clash in three different locations between two rival cult groups, the Eiye and Black Axe in Benin, the Edo State capital.

Daily Sun gathered that the victims were killed during a quarrel, as one of the groups was sharing money allegedly given to them by politicians during the conduct of primaries by one of the political parties in the state.

It was learnt that two men riding on a motorcycle, suspected to be members of the Eiye confraternity shot a member of a rival Black Axe cult group whose name was identified as Tony Idemudia at Uwelu, near Ogida area of the city. As soon as this happened, the Black Axe members were said to have stormed the Texiles Mill Road area apparently on a reprisal mission and swooped on two rival members killing them in the process.

Not satisfied, members of the Black Axe confraternity were said to have retreated and launched another attack on their opponents at the Second East Circular junction also in the state capital, where they shot two persons to death. One of the victims of the onslaught was identified as Osas.
The bloody scenes had left the residents of the affected areas scampering for safety. When contacted , the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Peter Ogboi failed to confirm the incident..

However, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Omojola said nine persons had been arrested in connection with the incident. He attributed the killings to rival cult gangs and promised that those involved in the killings would be prosecuted, adding that investigations were on to unravel the circumstances surrounding the clash.

The corpses of the cult members have been taken to the morgue of the Central Hospital, Benin by policemen from the state command.

Three people died instantly, and thirteen others sustained injuries from a road crash that took place at Car Wash, Oworosoki Expressway exit of the Third Mainland Bridge on Tuesday morning.

The accident involved a truck belonging to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and two commercial vehicles popularly known as ‘Danfo' and ‘Molue.' According to eyewitnesses, the Molue (a fabricated 44-seater bus) lost control and ran into a moving Danfo bus. The Danfo Bus (15 seater bus) subsequently swerved into the LAWMA truck which was about to exit the express way.

"A LAWMA truck wanted to make a U-turn to collect dustbin under the bridge. He did not check his mirror well and as it was making the U-turn, a Molue bus don hit a bus wey dey come. That is how the bus run into the truck," said Tunde Ibrahim, a recharge card seller who witnessed the incident while coming to work at 9am yesterday.

The result of the collusion completely wrecked the Danfo bus and resulted in the instantaneous death of two passengers, while a LAWMA staff died while receiving first aid treatment. Most of the injured, who were coming from Lagos Island where they went to buy goods, were evacuated to St Daniel's Hospital, located about 100m away from the scene of the accident. A few were taken to Gbagada General Hospital. Adewale Ogunkoya, the Administrator of St Daniel's, confirmed that thirteen injured persons were brought into the hospital..

The state of the injured

"Yes we had them brought in about two and half hours ago," he said. "We were able to admit 8 out of the 13 but the remaining 5 were in very critical condition. They had fractures, some were bleeding from the nose and mouth, while others could not regain consciousness. We had to just administer first-aid to and transfer them to the Gbagada General Hospital with the help of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). All 8 have been stabilized. They are presently coming out of shock and most of them are now conscious."

"The victims sustained fractures on the leg and lacerations on the body and the head, but the hospital was able to stabilize the four men and women, supply them with drip and stitch the areas where they were badly cut. We felt bad, the moment we heard about it, and we alerted the whole hospital staff to get ready for the emergency because the patients may be brought because it happened very close to us, so we were ready. Some could not talk because they were in a state of shock He added the patients where attended to immediately without billing," he added.

A mother of one of the victims, Iyabo Animashaun, expressed gratitude to God for sparing the life of her daughter. "I just want to thank God that she did not have more than a gash on her head," she said. "It may look nasty but at least she is alive. The doctors just want her here for some time to make sure everything is okay before she is discharged."

At the Gbagada General Hospital, the situation of the victims who were referred there could not be ascertained as the hospital's administrative officers refused to left NEXT see some of the injured passengers. One of the administrative officers, who requested anonymity, confirmed that some accident victims were brought in but could not comment on their condition as he was not involved in their treatment. Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- Earthquake victims, writhing in pain and grasping at life, watched doctors and nurses walk away from a field hospital Friday night after United Nations officials ordered a medical team to evacuate the area out of security concerns. The only doctor left was CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta. He assessed the needs of the 25 patients, but with no supplies there was little he could do. And more people, some in critical condition, were trickling in late Friday. "I've never been in a situation like this. This is quite ridiculous," Gupta said. With a dearth of medical facilities in Haiti's capital, ambulances had nowhere else to take patients, some who had suffered severe trauma -- amputations and head injuries. Others had suffered a great deal of blood loss, but there were no blood supplies left at the clinic. Search and rescue must trump security. ... They need to man up and get back in there. --Retired Army Lt. Gen. Russell Honoré Gupta said some might not survive the night. He said the Belgian doctors did not want to leave their patients behind but were ordered out by the United Nations, which sent buses to transport them. "There is concern about riots not far from here -- and this is part of the problem," Gupta said. There have been scattered reports of violence throughout the capital. "What is striking to me as a physician is that patients who just had surgery, patients who are critically ill are essentially being left here, nobody to care for them," Gupta said. Sandra Pierre, a Haitian who has been helping at the makeshift hospital, said the medical staff took most of the supplies with them. Port-au-Prince "All the doctors, all the nurses are gone," she said. "They are expected to be back tomorrow. They had no plan on leaving tonight. It was an order that came suddenly." She told Gupta, "It's just you." A 7.0 magnitude earthquake flattened Haiti's capital city Tuesday afternoon, affecting as many as 3 million people. Tens of thousands of people are feared dead. Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, lacked adequate medical resources even before the disaster and has been struggling this week to tend to huge numbers of injured. The U.N. clinic, set up under several tents, was a godsend to the few who were lucky to have been brought there. It was not known whether the medical team would return in daylight. Retired Army Lt. Gen. Russell Honoré, who led relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina in 2005, said the evacuation of the clinic's medical staff was unforgivable. "Search and rescue must trump security," Honoré said. "I've never seen anything like this before in my life. They need to man up and get back in there." Honoré drew parallels between the tragedy in New Orleans and in Port-au-Prince. But even in the chaos of Katrina, he said, he had never seen medical staff walk away. "I find this astonishing these doctors left," he said. "People are scared of the poor."

Ohineme Ndubisi, a Nigerian in Plaza, Guangzhou, China is one of the unlucky Nigerians daring to escape intense raids by the local Chinese Police on illegal immigrants. Ohineme’s story is a gory one that reminds you of a Hollywood block-burster film. Realizing that the team of policemen had rounded him up in a corner on the fifth floor of the Market Plaza in Guangzhou, China, he shattered the window glass with his bare hands and dived through it to the ground floor. As he jumped, a sharp edge of the shattered glass pierced through his stomach, slicing it into two. Surrounded by some policemen who had earlier laid siege to the ground floor, the young Nigerian grilled in pains as blood gushed from his open stomach. Before he was taken to the hospital. The news of his adventurous stunt had attracted a crowed of bewildered passers bye including Nigerians around. But Ndubuisi was not the only casualty the Wednesday afternoon of 15th July. Another Nigerian, Chigozie Asukwa, was also badly injured as a result of the raid. Chigozie had hit his head on an iron bar, while scampering through a narrow exit. Unlike other past raids, the Nigerian community in the small town of Guangzhou would rather not sweep the horrific incident under the carpet. About 2.45pm same day, they gathered in their hundreds and engaged the local police in a free-for-all. More Nigerians were injured. Chanting the song, “oh my home, oh my home, when shall I see my home…” the Nigerian protesters barricaded a major road in the city. The protest, which caused serious tension was said to have lasted for about four hours before the Chinese Police, after a re-enforcement, over powered the Protesters. A detailed video footage of the incident was compiled by Foundation for Nigerian Ethics (FINE), an international media organization based in Abuja, and exclusively made available to Daily Sun in Abuja. Narrating how the incident occurred, Okere who by now was recuperating in a nearby hospital told FINE that, “a friend had called me from Lagos for memory cards. So, I was to go and change the $3,000 he sent to me at the market when the policemen came and rounded me up. The white guy who had my money started running. So, I couldn’t stand to lose two things, my money and then go to jail because my paper is already expired. So I broke the glass and jumped down.” Another Nigerian Emeka Amobi, 26, had broken his hands in a similar experience on the 3rd of July. Amobi out of fear of being apprehended by the Chinese Immigration Police had jumped down from a 25feet height in a train station in Beijin. The country Director of FINE, Mr. Titus Ezeugo, who witnessed the Guangzhou riot and who has been on media surveillance on Africans in Asia and Europe for over half a decade, gave an insight into why illegal Nigerian immigrants would rather prefer to jump from any height than be arrested. “It’s important to clearly state that more than half of Nigerians in china are illegal immigrants. The Chinese law is clear on its immigration matters. For instance, citizens of Nigeria, depending on your kind of visa, are not allowed to stay more than two weeks for a business or work visit. “A minute after two weeks of stay, you would be surcharged 500rmb (about N14, 000). After that, everyday you stay with an expired visa, you are made to pay 500rmb. So some of them are indebted to the tune of 5000rmb, which is the hallmark. If apprehended you would be in an underground cell till you pay your demurrage fee, purchase a return ticket and TC. So where would the person get such money? ” He said the Chinese authority should not be blamed adding, “Nigerian government must be ready to cater for her people whether they live in Nigeria or not. The Chinese immigration law has trapped many Nigerians who were deceived into travelling to China for greener pasture.” Ezeugu who averred that the condition of Nigerians in China was precarious and most embarrassing added that many were languishing in penury. He, therefore, charged Nigerian government to spend money on qualitative enlightenment campaign that would redirect the minds of her youths away from what he says is the illusion of going for a greener pasture in China. “We cannot say because they violated the law, then we would watch them rot away in China. Take recent case of Americans in South Korea. You see that, Clinton, a former President, had to fly to South Korea because of the matter. This is what FINE has been doing and we need the government to show some interest in this” Ironically, the media practitioner said that while the number of Nigerians travelling to China on a daily basis is still on the increase, majority there want to return home. Collin Chimobi, a Nigerian businessman based in China, told Daily Sun that more than half of Nigerians in China want to come back home. Meanwhile Daily Sun after frantic efforts to get comments from the Chinese Embassy in Abuja failed due to Embassy protocol, a questionnaire on the incident was posted to the embassy’s official website on Monday, but Daily Sun is yet to get a reply. However the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, told Daily Sun that the ministry was fully aware of the incident and has already directed the Nigerian Mission in China to begin discussions with the Chinese authorities on the modalities of getting out of the situation. The Minister who spoke on the matter through his Director of Communications, Mr. Ayo Olukanmi, appealed to Nigerians in China to be patient as the process of visa issuance to anyone who wants to come back would soon begin. But the National Human Rights Commission said that it was fully abreast of the matter and has been following it with keen interest. The Director, Public Affairs and Communications, Mr. Muhammad Nasir Ladan told Daily Sun that although the commission is handicapped on the matter as its mandate restricts it to matters within Nigeria, it has begun discussion with the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Benilla. “We are working on the issue to reach a position before we come out with the next line of action. If there is human right violation as it is being alleged, then there are possible steps to take on the matter.” SO HOW MANY WEEKS ARE THE CHINESE IN NAIJA ALLOWED ON BUSINESS VISAS ?
