So now that the Royal Wedding is over, what's the most desired ticket in the world? Courtside at the NBA Finals? The Super Bowl in New York City? The World Cup final in Rio?

How about none of the above?

The BBC reports that one million people applied to see an event that has nothing to do with Tom Brady or LeBron James or Lionel Messi.

And the event will last less than 10 seconds.

We're talking about the men's 100-meter final in London next August. The sprint is always the marquee event of the Summer Olympics, but this is likely the most anticipated Olympic event ever, because of one man.

Every sports fan in the world, let alone the million who applied for a seat at the Olympic Stadium next year, wants to watch Usain Bolt try to beat his unfathomable world record Olympic time of 9.69 seconds, set at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

To give you some perspective, 1.6 million people applied for tickets to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but that was for a weeks-long tournament. This is for one race.

The stadium seats 80,000, so chances are not great, but if Bolt lowers his mark, few will complain about shelling out 725 pounds (about $1,000) to see it.

Bolt will be 25 when he takes his place in the starting blocks next year -- assuming he stays healthy and qualifies, of course -- putting him right in the prime of his sprinting life. So although he'll be competing against seven other runners, he'll really be competing against the limits of human capacity -- and himself.

His Beijing performance was met with both awe -- he beat the second place finisher by a whopping 0.2 seconds -- and wonder. Bolt slowed down to showboat at the end of the race, and had a shoelace untied, so speculation immediately began as to how fast he could really run. Some calculated close to 9.5 seconds, which is preposterous in a world where a sub-9.8 time is still superb. (Maurice Greene set a World Record with a 9.79 time in 1999.)

So almost as soon as Bolt crossed the finish line in Beijing, the countdown to London 2012 began. While most assume Michael Phelps has reached his potential as an Olympian, Bolt's ceiling is very much up for debate. Many think the 2012 Games will bring the answer. And many think Bolt will hit a generational best -- a mark that will not be matched for decades, despite the steady progression of lower times over the course of running history.

Bolt made London even more interesting in 2009 by lowering his world record to 9.58 seconds in Berlin. At the end of that event, the mayor of that city presented the sprinter with a chunk of the Berlin Wall that weighed nearly three tons.

But that heavy piece of history is not nearly as popular these days as the little piece of paper that will allow a view of the fastest human ever.

The former world number one has not triumphed anywhere since the 2009 Australian Masters and has been steadily losing ranking points because of his recent struggles on and off the course.

In Monday’s rankings, Woods is sandwiched by fellow Americans Bubba Watson (in 11th) and Dustin Johnson (13th), the first time he has been out of the top 10 since he was 13th on April 6, 1997.

Ever since his private life unravelled in sensational fashion at the end of 2009 and he tried to repair his crumbling marriage, Woods has been a shadow of the player he once was.

It has been almost three years since he clinched the last of his 14 major titles and the prospect of adding any more in the near future receded after he withdrew from this month’s Players Championship because of injury.

Injury woes

Aged only 35, Woods has already had four surgeries on his troublesome left knee and his latest injury setback comes at an inconvenient time with the second major of the year, the U.S. Open, fast approaching.

Woods is a three-time winner of his national open and had initially planned to compete in the Quail Hollow Championship, the Players and then the June 2-5 Memorial tournament to complete his U.S. Open build-up.

However, he was forced to pull out of Quail Hollow because of mild strains to his left knee and left Achilles’ tendon and those same injuries led to his withdrawal from the Players the following week.

Woods is rapidly running out of time in his preparations for the June 16-19 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

He has repeatedly said he would quit the game whenever he felt he was unable to compete at the highest level.

“For me it is very simple, it (the time to quit) is when my best isn’t good enough any more,” Woods told Reuters shortly before he won his most recent major at the 2008 U.S. Open.

“I could not live with myself going out and practising and preparing as hard as I do and knowing that if I go out and play my best someone is just going to beat me.”

Plights of Saudi Women: previously Woman killed for chatting on facebook, Rape Victim given 200 lashes

The Middle East is a strange place for Women. Unseen, Unheard their Lives are still like the Middle Ages Where Women were to be seen and not Heard. Googling saudi woman will bring stories of inhumane treatment like these .Just this week a Saudi Woman has been detained for Driving !

A woman in Saudi Arabia was detained after she launched a campaign against the driving ban for women in the Kingdom and posted a video of herself behind the wheel on Facebook and YouTube.

Human rights activist Walid Abou el-Kheir said Manal al-Sherif was detained on Saturday by the country's religious police, who are charged with ensuring the kingdom's rigid interpretation of Islamic teachings are observed.

Al-Sherif was released hours later, according to the campaign's Twitter account. The terms of her release were not immediately clear.

Al-Sherif and a group of other women started a Facebook page called "Teach me how to drive so I can protect myself,'' which urges authorities to lift the driving ban.

She went on a test drive in the eastern city of Khobar and later posted a video of the experience.

"This is a volunteer campaign to help the girls of this country'' learn to drive, al-Sherif says in the video.

"At least for times of emergency, God forbid. What if whoever is driving them gets a heart attack?''

'Mass drive'

The campaigners have focused on the importance of women driving in times of emergencies and in the case of low-income families.

Al-Sherif said unlike the traditional argument in Saudi Arabia that driving exposes women to sinful temptations by allowing them to mingle with policemen and mechanics, women who drive can avoid sexual harassment from their drivers and protect their "dignity.''

Through Facebook, the campaigners are calling for a mass drive on June 17 and more than 12,000 people viewing the page have indicated they support the call.

On their Facebook page, the group says women joining the campaign should not challenge authorities if they were stopped and questioned, and should abide by the country's strict dress code.

"We want to live as complete citizens, without the humiliation that we are subjected to every day because we are tied to a driver,'' the Facebook message reads.

"We are not here to break the law or demonstrate or challenge the authorities, we are here to claim one of our simplest rights.''

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world to ban women, both Saudi and foreign, from driving. The prohibition forces families to hire live-in drivers, and those who cannot afford the $300 to $400 a month for a driver must rely on male relatives to drive them to work, school, shopping or the doctor.

Saudi woman killed for chatting on Facebook

A young Saudi Arabian woman was murdered by her father for chatting on the social network site Facebook, it has emerged.

The unnamed woman from Riyadh was beaten and shot after she was discovered in the middle of an online conversation with a man, the al-Arabiya website reported.

The case was reported on a Saudi Arabian news site as an example of the "strife" the social networking site is causing in the Islamic nation.

Saudi preacher Ali al-Maliki has emerged as the leading critic of Facebook, claiming the network is corrupting the youth of the nation.

"Facebook is a door to lust and young women and men are spending more on their mobile phones and the Internet than they are spending on food," he said.

The woman was murdered in August but her death was highlighted following Maliki's comments.

Social customs and religious rules oblige women in Saudi Arabia to cover their head and figure with a veil so that men are not distracted by the female form.

Critics also allege that Facebook is an avenue for the promotion of homosexual relations in Saudi Arabia. More than 6,500 people have signed the online petition in a bid to stop the conservative Muslim kingdom following Syria in banning access to the network from local internet servers.

There are estimated to be more than 30,000 Facebook users in the oil-rich kingdom. Many Saudi women use nicknames and post comic images or drawings on their pages instead of photographs. Some Saudi bloggers have dubbed the network "Faceless".

Women users' contact details and email addresses are often pseudonymous. The popularity of sites for singles has broken taboos on people making contact outside family and class connections.

One of the most popular Facebook groups among Saudi Arabian youth is Single and Looking in Saudi Arabia, which has 1,823 members and hosts many sexually explicit images.

A coalition of Edo women in the diaspora, led by Dr. Rosaline Okosun, President and Founder of the Association Against Women Export, ASWE, weekend, described as disturbing and unacceptable, the alleged impregnation of a 15-year-old girl by a member of the Edo State House of Assembly.

It will be recalled that the lawmaker (names withheld),representing one of the constituencies in Edo North, allegedly impregnated his 15-year-old sister-in-law and had pressured the victim to abort the about four months pregnancy. Vanguard was reliably informed that the victim had remained defiant and had vowed to keep the child since she had earlier aborted two pregnancies for the same lawmaker.
However, in the joint statement, Mrs Okosun and Osa-Oviawe, expressed concern over the welfare of the girl, whom they described as a victim of a sexual predator and called on the relevant authorities to ensure that the said lawmaker was brought to justice.
According to the statement, "it is morally, culturally and ethically reprehensible for a grown man to take advantage of a little girl like that. It is even more unconscionable when the said man is a lawmaker. Edo State has a serious problem with prostitution and human trafficking involving under-age girls. Lawmakers should be protecting these young girls and not joining in the orgy that is causing a generation of Edo girls to become victims of pimps, madams and child molesters.
"We call on the necessary authorities to take up this matter and ensure that justice is done. If the said lawmaker is found culpable of these allegations, he should be recalled from the House of Assembly and criminally charged with statutory rape of minors. His act is shameful, against cultural values, predatory and animalistic. Such a man should not be allowed to roam about free, while endangering the safety of young girls everywhere in Edo State," the women added.

  1. mjq%7Endq4_l.jpgIntroduction

    • Eating healthy consists of consuming a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy oils, low fat dairy and lean animal or plant-based proteins. This balance is outlined in the United States Department of Agriculture's healthy foods pyramid. This pyramid acts as a basic guideline to eating in such a way that you promote a healthy body. Of course, this pyramid can be altered to fit your lifestyle (such as that of a vegetarian), but the same principles apply in getting the right mixture of carbohydrates, healthy fats and protein needed for the body to function correctly.

    Weight Control

    • When eating a balanced diet, one of the first ways that your body benefits is through weight control. According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2006 alone, over 72 million Americans over the age of 20 were considered obese. Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) score of 30 or more. Eating healthy helps prevent obesity in several ways. First, those who eat healthy tend to take in less calories during meals. Second, eating healthy ensures higher amounts of fiber (such as those found in fruits vegetables and whole grains). Fiber gives your body the sensation of feeling fuller longer, which reduces the overall intake of food during the day. Finally, eating healthy influences your metabolism, allowing you to burn more calories each day.

    Heart Health

    • A healthy diet replaces unhealthy fatty foods packed full of LDL (bad) cholesterol with foods that are full of HDL (good) cholesterol (such as olive oil or salmon). High levels of LDL cholesterol in the blood create plaque buildup in the blood vessels. This can lead to arterial hardening and heart disease. HDL cholesterol removes bad cholesterol from the bloodstream to the liver, where it can then be processed and removed from the body. A healthy diet is also high in fiber, which can help control the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood.

    Blood Sugar

    • Eating healthy also benefits your body by helping control your blood sugar levels. This is mostly achieved through eating healthy forms of carbohydrates. Eating foods full of sugar and other unhealthy forms of carbohydrates can quickly cause the levels of blood glucose to rise in your circulatory system. Although your cells need glucose to create energy, too much glucose can result in insulin resistance, known as diabetes. Insulin is an important hormone that unlocks the cell's ability to absorb glucose from the bloodstream. When the cells become resistant, they no longer can absorb the glucose from the blood. This causes the glucose levels to rise above healthy levels in the bloodstream, resulting in serious damage to the blood vessels.

    Disease Prevention

    • Eating healthy also helps the body prevent disease. Healthy foods, especially vegetables, tend to contain higher levels of phytochemicals. Pytochemicals are substances that increase your immune system's ability to fight diseases. Eating healthy also helps prevent conditions that promote disease. For example, according to the Mayo Clinic, by eating less fatty foods and increasing the amount of plant-based foods you consume, you can actually prevent certain cancers. Eating healthy can also help prevent heart disease, diabetes, strokes and even Alzheimer's disease.

As the Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola, dissolves his cabinet on Monday to begin the reconstitution of a new cabinet, one prominent name that has sprung up, according to investigation by Huhuonline.com, is that of his arch-enemy. His name is Dele Alake, former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state during the period of former governor Bola Tinubu, who is now leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Alake, who has been a close friend of Tinubu, left with the former governor after he successfully laundered the later's image and took over the running of some of the former governor's media organisations including Radio and Television Continental, based in Ketu, Lagos.
Since then he has been with the former governor allegedly carrying out jobs that has to do with image promotion for him.
The former Commissioner, who has always seen the current governor, Babatunde Fashola, as a junior colleague, was alleged to be the brain behind the unearthing of the allegation of corruption against governor Fashola when the governor had political issues with Tinubu.
Huhuonline.com learnt that he was actually the brain behind the creation of the True Face of Lagos, an organisation that churned out information about moneies claimed to have been misappropriated by governor Fashola. The group also sent petitions to the state House of Assembly to, first, investigate the allegation with a promise to come out with more information about the governor's alleged financial recklessness.
Then, the group later sent another letter to the House of Assembly castigating it for its refusal to do justice to the petition. But the House of Assembly replied that it could not go on due to an order of a Lagos state High Court, which put a hold on the investigation.
Throughout this same period, the former Commissioner never recognized the governor whenever they met at events. He never shook hands with Fashola or accorded him the regards of the office of the governor.
However, the political problem between Fashola and Tinubu were resolved while Alake moved to Ekiti to contest a senatorial seat with Opeyemi Bamidele, his successor in the state Ministry of Information a nd Strategy and Babafemi Ojudu, a media guru.
While Ojudu won the ACN primaries for the seat, Bamidele was advised to move to contest the House of Representative seat, which he won. But Alake, it was understood, hearkened to the advice of the party's leader to step down, and he did, however, not without lamenting the way the primaries was conducted in Ekiti.
He said: "When I joined the race for the senatorial seat in Ekiti, I was motivated by the higher ideal of offering service and quality representation to the people of Ekiti Central Senatorial District in particular, Ekiti State and Nigeria in general.
"I felt that my God-given intellect, talent, elocution and erudiction/articulation, experience, exposure, knowledge and vision would be best put to the service of my people in the National Assembly through a clean electoral process.
"I did not envisage that an intra-party primary would degenerate into malpractices, fraud, violence and brigandage... I have come to the painful conclusion that it will be an uphill task for decent people with a sense of propriety to be part of any such process again.
"In the light of this and after due consultations with well-meaning Nigerians across the geo-political divides and given the fact that I subscribed to the principle and value of playing the game by the rule and also the fact that I cherish the quality of my name, status, stature and my image , I have decided not to be part of any such arrangement because there is no guarantee that the same thing will not occur again. Politics, for me, is not a do-or-die affair.
"I do not and will not be part of a scheme that will hoodwink the public because I want to serve them. If anyone resorts to monetary inducement, brigandage and cohesion, then such person’s motive can never be to serve. I, therefore, withdraw my participation in any political arrangement that is not above board."
But Huhuonline.com has learnt that to compensate him for his loyalty, he has been nominated for appointment in the new cabinet, a situation many residents of Lagos see as a move to scuttle Fashola's effectiveness in the next four years. Our checks reveal that when Gov. Fashola reconstitutes his cabinet, he will be allowed to nominate only two commissioners, while his mentor, Ahmed Tinubu is expected to fill the remaining slots with his loyalists. The ministries assigned to Gov. Fashola are Justice and finance.

Huhuonline.com reported weeks ago that there were plans by Tinubu to appoint his men into key positions in order to monitor activities within the state and Alausa, where the Government House is located.

Roland Amaize who handed down the judgment on Monday, held that the action of Mr Ola, a police sergeant, was pre-meditated and not a case of accidental discharge as offered by the convict.

He said the convict had initially reported a case of armed robbery against the deceased which was later discovered to be false, adding that there was no justification for the convict to have shot and killed the deceased who was harmless as at the time of the incident.

Mr Amaize further held that there were contradictions in the convict's extra-judicial statement and his oral testimony in court.

Overwhelming evidence

According to him, there was evidence from the police doctor who performed a post-mortem on the corpse showing damaged urinary bladder and profuse bleeding which led to the death of the victim.

The court held that the evidence of one of the expert prosecution witnesses on the handling of arms and ammunitions showed that AK-47 rifle was at the safety catche when the incident occurred.

Mr Amaize also held that the evidence of another prosecution witness present at the scene of crime as at the time of the murder was not challenged. On the whole, the court held that the prosecution proved the case of murder against the convict beyond reasonable doubts as stated by law.

Mr Amaize, therefore, sentenced the convicted Mr Ola to death by hanging under section 319 of the Criminal Code.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that it will embark on another round of indefinite industrial action if the Federal Government fails to implement the terms of Agreement reached with ASUU in 2009.

The Chairman of ASUU-UCB, Mr. James Okpiliya, who disclosed this while addressing journalists at the unions secretariat over the weekend in Calabar, said the imminent crisis ahead will be dangerous for the university system and called on all major stakeholders to intervene before the education sector is doomed.

Okpiliya admitted that though, the government has implemented the monetary increase as contained in the agreement, but the problem lies with the National Assembly that has refused to pass the law on the retirement of professors and other major contending issues.“The union regrets that since 2009 when the agreement was signed, the National Assembly has refused to pass the law making retirement of lecturers at professorial cadre to be 70 years. The government has failed or refused to enact the enabling laws to facilitate the implementation and enforcement of some of the key aspects of that agreement.

“With less than two weeks to the end of this administration, we can conclude that government is ill-willing to give legislative backing to the parts of the agreement, ‘’ he said. The union urged the National Assembly to urgently pass the relevant law in respect of the areas of the agreement that require such before the end of the legislative tenure, stressing that “to renege on this is to avoidably throw the university system into another serious crisis.’’

The union also strongly objected to the arbitrary dissolution of the governing councils by visitors of various state universities with a wave of the hand insisting on due process of law in the removal of the Vice Chancellors especially that of Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, and the University of Ado Ekiti by their visitors. Okpaliya further commended lecturers and members of the National Youth Service Corps for their role in the success of the recently concluded general elections.

He, however, condemned in strong terms the post-election violence in some parts of the country, particularly the killing of corps members, saying “their killing is unfortunate, unacceptable and a primitive fall back on fault lines that drift us apart as a nation.”

Motorist plying the Lagos-Ibadan expressway are presently going through tough times as robbers have laid siege to the expressway, robbing and maiming motorists and passengers, unchallenged.

Last Thursday, about 15 robbers, clad in military fatigue, robbed motorists unchallenged.
A notable politician, said to have taken part in the just concluded House of Representatives election, (names withheld), was among the victims. He was said to have been stripped to his panties and robbed of all his valuables. Sources said he was slapped several times when the robbers realised whom he was.
No fewer than eight robbery incidents had been recorded with an unspecified number of persons injured, this month alone.
According to sources, the robbers usually operate few metres away from the Lagos Shagamu under bridge, before the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC,  and the old Ogun State toll gate.

The Action Congress of Nigeria in Ogun State has raised the alarm over plans by the out-going Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s administration to disrupt the May 29 hand-over ceremony by bombing the venue of the event.

The handover ceremony to the incoming ACN-led administration is slated for the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary in Ogun State, Mr. Sola Lawal, the ACN accused Daniel of instructing his aides and associates to vacate the state on or before Wednesday, May 25 so as not to be caught up in the mayhem.

This move, the party also said, was meant to provide an alibi for top functionaries of the administration if they were fingered as culprits in the planned attack.

The ACN accused the Daniel’s administration of having the intention of causing pandemonium not minding its impact on lives and property of the citizenry.

He said, “He was unable to stop the emergence of Amosun and now planning to halt his installation. We hereby call on the security agencies to be at alert to ensure maximum security throughout Ogun State and also put in place steps that will guarantee safety of lives and property at the stadium during the hand-over ceremony.

“As a party, the ACN has been known to be peace-loving and we want to re-assure the good people of Ogun State that we will do all in our power to see that the state is well secured in the build-up to the swearing-in as well as on the day of the event.”

The ACN mentioned security as one of its cardinal programmes and vowed to ensure that the in-coming government in the state accords issues of security necessary attention.

“The neglect of security by the out-going administration is a deliberate action, which Governor Daniel exploited to his advantage and this has resulted in the palpable fear that has gripped the people of the state.

“The insecurity occasioned particularly by the unresolved murders in the last eight years has made prominent indigenes and frontline opposition leaders to flee the state and this has been detrimental to the socio-economic and political development of the state”, the party added.

Lawal in an interview with our correspondent disclosed that the Ogun State Police Command had been adequately briefed by the party on the development.

But both the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Daura, when contacted through telephone denied receiving such report.

Adejobi simply directed our correspondent to the state commissioner of police, but Daura in his response said, “I am not aware of such report and such report has not been forwarded to me. I am not a politician and you shouldn’t bother me about issues of politics.”

When reminded of the security implication of the allegation, Daura simply retorted, “I have told you, I am not aware and that I have not receive any report of such” before switching off his phone.

The Ogun State Governor, who reacted through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, urged security agencies in the state to probe the ACN over false alarm.

In a statement signed by Adegbenro, the state government described the allegations as heinous and condemned the party’s publicity secretary over the allegations.

“To say the least, we are shocked by the resort to naked propaganda and vile untruth by a party, which should ordinarily be concerned with fashioning ways to consolidate the gains of the last eight years in Ogun State. Rather than constructive engagement that would further deepen good governance, what we have seen is a descent to the abyss of propaganda and issuing of statements meant to heat up the polity and divide our people.

“However this latest concoction from the propaganda mill of the ACN in Ogun State gives cause for worry. For if this is the colour of the emerging administration, then Ogun State people should be prepared for lies at the highest level and propaganda as tool of governance. All the allegations contained in Mr. Lawal’s statement are completely false. We as a government cannot and will not destroy what we have built and what would continue to stand as legacies of our good governance in the last eight years.”

GJ crashes kerosene prices

Jonathan goes tough on kerosene scarcity

LAGOS — Following the lingering scarcity of kerosene (DPK) across the country which has led to high prices of the product, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Engr. Austen Oniwon to urgently find a lasting solution to the problem even as he directed that anybody or group found to be responsible for this hardship on Nigerians should be immediately sanctioned.

As a result, the Minister and her entourage are expected to hold strategic meetings in Lagos with various stakeholders in the downstream sector as a way of turning the situation around before the handover date of May 29, 20011 and also hand down the President’s directive that any stakeholder who refuses to ensure availability of products at government directed prices as expected would be severely sanctioned.

The President, according to news sources, was irked by the fact that wit all the attention given to the downstream sector by the government and the billions of tax payers money going into importation of DPK, Nigerians still have to queue to buy it at exorbitant prices and this is seen as a  national embarrassment which requires urgent intervention.

Vanguard checks, however, reveal that the reason for the high prices of the pump might not be unconnected with the backdoor transactions which has almost become the order of the day at various NNPC depots across the country.
An operator who poke to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity said the problem lies with the government which has refused to liberalise the downstream sector to make room for general importation of kerosene by all marketers, as well as allowing the Petroleum Subsidy Fund (PSF) applicable to kerosene importers too.

In some of the major petrol stations visited at press time, it was discovered that the product is available, but sells at about N140.00 a litre, while the independent and black marketers sell as high as N160 and N200 respectively.

Only a fortnight ago, the management of NNPC strongly dismissed the rumours that the Federal Government has concluded plans to hike the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which led to unnecessary build up of fuel queues in Abuja and other parts of the country.

Image maker of the corporation, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma had disclosed that the NNPC had well over 39 days sufficiency of PMS and other petroleum products in stock, and this presumably included Kerosene, even as he described the rumoured hike in fuel price as baseless and unfounded and urged the Petroleum Tanker Owners to release their trucks for loading of petroleum products at various depots and loading facilities in Lagos now that the elections have been rounded up across the country.

However, Nigerian have continued to groan under the pressure of scarcity of kerosene and its subsequent hike in price.  A close source in one of the major marketing companies who pleaded anonymity confirmed that NNPC does not give products to major marketers. “You can say it publicly anywhere that NNPC does not give us products.

I stand to be corrected, NNPC does not allocate product to major markers, so if a dealer buys his products from a third party certainly you will expect him to sell as he has bought.

If the President is concerned about this anomaly now, then it is a very good step but the fact remains that he should check what the daily consumption rate of kerosene is and what is the volume of daily supply, im sure he’ll discover a huge gap, and you will agree with me that when ever there is a problem of supply, a lot of issues comes into play and the hardest thing to control at such instance is price.” he said

GEJ_sambo_patience.jpg?1306079735&width=234By SaharaReporters, New York

A scandalous squandering of scarce public funds for next Sunday’s inauguration of Goodluck Jonathan's presidency is in effect.  SaharaReporters investigations have revealed that the inauguration ceremonies will last one week at a budget of about N5 billion ($32 million).

In a memo obtained by SaharReporters, the church service alone, which will take place next Saturday, will swallow over N62 million( $403,000)

The memo is signed by the Minister of Aviation, Fidelia Njeze, in her role as the chairman of the Church Service sub-committee of the 2011 Presidential Inauguration Committee.

Wearing that cap, Mrs. Njeze will oversee the church service on Saturday May 28, at the Christian center in Abuja for a couple of hours.

The Presidential Inauguration Committee is listed under the office of the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF).

Presidency sources told SaharaReporters that apart from the series of committees set up by the Office of the SGF, the president's office and that of the First Lady also have their different budgetary expenses for the event.

In the church committee activity, Mrs. Njeze proposes to provide a public address system for N35 million.  She will also refurbish the Christian Center's 24 air-conditioning system for N8 million; provide multimedia projectors and screens for another N8 million, and pay as well as pay officiating ministers N2.5 million.pres_inauguration_Page_1.jpgpres_inauguration_Page_2.jpg

Carlo Ancelotti is sacked as Chelsea manager

Ancelotti awaits news on future shortly before he is sacked

Chelsea have sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti after he ended his second season at the club without a trophy.

He was dismissed following the 1-0 loss to Everton, as the west Londoners finished second in the Premier League.
The 51-year-old had one more year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
A club statement read: "This season's performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of next season's preparations."
Speculation had been mounting that Ancelotti would be sacked following Chelsea's first season without a trophy in three years.
They missed out in the Premier League as Manchester United clinched their 19th top-flight title last week, further compounded by exits in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup during the season.
The Blues, who were Premier League and FA Cup holders at the start of the campaign, finished nine points behind United and only ahead of third-placed Manchester City on goal difference.
Former manager Avram Grant suffered similar treatment when Chelsea finished second in the domestic table and lost the Champions League final in 2008 on penalties.

Carlo Ancelotti's dismissal as Chelsea manager immediately after the season's final game is ruthless even by Roman Abramovich's standards
=
And ambitious owner Roman Abramovich, who bankrolled an audacious £50m move for striker Fernando Torres during the January transfer window, will now start the search for a successor capable of recapturing the Premier League from Manchester United, while also guiding the club to the much-coveted Champions League trophy.
"Chelsea's long-term football objectives and ambitions remain unchanged and we will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager," read the club statement.
Ancelotti had reiterated his ambition to remain at Chelsea, but insisted the decision was entirely down to the club's demanding hierarchy.
"I am now on holiday - but I am not sure how long my holiday will be," he said in his post-match media conference shortly before he was sacked.
"We haven't arranged any meeting but I think in the next week, now the season is finished, the club can address my job and they will take a decision.
"I have to wait and see what happens. I don't have to say anything to the club - they can judge me on my job for two years."
Ancelotti had been coveted by Abramovich after spending eight years in charge at AC Milan, guiding the Italian giants to two Champions League titles in 2003 and 2007.
He signed a three-year contract in June 2009, taking over from interim boss Guus Hiddink, who had guided Chelsea to the FA Cup before returning to take charge of the Russia national team.
Ancelotti's first season in English football began in spectacular fashion, winning the Premier League and FA Cup - sealing the former with a thumping 8-0 victory against Wigan on the final day of the 2010 calendar.
But his second year in west London proved significantly more challenging as he was twice thwarted by Manchester United domestically and in the Champions League, where Chelsea suffered a quarter-final exit to Sir Alex Ferguson's team.

Ancelotti's progress was hindered when lassistant manager Ray Wilkins left the club in November after they decided not to renew his contract.
The Blues had been top of the table but the former England midfielder's departure coincided with a poor run of form, losing 3-0 to Sunderland before a 1-0 reverse against Birmingham during a six-match winless league run.
Defeats by Wolves and Liverpool followed at the start of the year before a late-season renaissance revived their title hopes.
However, a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on 8 May effectively sealed Sir Alex Ferguson's 12th Premier League title.
"Last year was really good, this year was not so good," added Ancelotti.
Chelsea's attentions will now turn to finding Ancelotti's successor, their seventh manager in the eight years since Abramovich took control of the club in 2003.
Porto's highly rated Andre Villas-Boas, Hiddink and former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard are all in the frame.
Dutchman Hiddink, who has a close relationship with Abramovich, revealed he still has an advisory role at Stamford Bridge.
"Since I left two years ago I've been advising the club on things concerning the squad," he wrote in De Telegraaf on Saturday.
"Sometimes I become a sounding board. It costs me very little time and I can combine it well with my position with Turkey. There is no conflict at all."

“It feels great,” Hopkins told reporters after eclipsing the achievement of George Foreman, who was 45 when he knocked out Michael Moorer to win the heavyweight title in 1994.

“I knew it was going to be a tough fight, but I wasn’t going to be denied. You’re supposed to win titles in your twenties, not when you’re 46.” The bout was a rematch of the duo’s controversial majority decision draw in Quebec City last December which Hopkins thought he had done enough to win but only one of the three judges awarded him a win.

On Saturday in Montreal, however, all three judges awarded the canny, former undisputed world middleweight champion the fight with Hopkins claiming 116-112, 115-114 and 115-113 majorities.

That result seemed unlikely when, after a quiet opening round, Pascal came to life in the second round and landed several hard punches, including a combination against the ropes that had the crowd of 17,560 roaring its approval.

In the third, Hopkins, 52-5-2 (32 KOs), turned the tables, feinting with a left and then landing a booming overhand right hand that buckled Pascal’s legs, forcing the younger man to hold on.

Pascal, 26-2-1 (16 KOs), returned the favour in the fourth, landing a big right and then following up with a right-left combination that had his opponent looking hurt at the end of the round.

Although Pascal was the younger man by 18 years, he appeared to tire surprisingly early in the fight and took advantage of every second of the one-minute rest between rounds to catch his breath on his stool.

When he appeared to take especially long to stand up at the beginning of round seven, Hopkins mocked him by doing push-ups in his corner while he waited.

By that stage, Hopkins had seized control of the contest, with Pascal beginning to look confused. An overhand right in the eighth round nailed Pascal, as did another right in the ninth.

In the tenth a short right hand spun Pascal around and he staggered forward, touching the canvas with his gloves, but British referee Ian-John Lewis did not call a knockdown, instead ruling the Canadian had slipped.

A great fight

As the fighters emerged for the twelfth and final round, Pascal in particular appeared exhausted, but he summoned the last of his energy to attack Hopkins with everything he had left, landing two hard rights as the two exchanged furiously at the final bell.

But it was not enough and Pascal, who claimed the belts by beating Chad Dawson in August, was left to praise the new champion.

“Bernard fought great tonight,” he said. “He is a great champion. he has really good defense and a lot of tricks. I am a young fighter and I am green.

These two fights will make me better in the future.” Hopkins, who made his professional debut in 1988, was delighted with his achievement.

“It was exciting,” the American said.

“I’ve been accused of being boring but I’ve saved the best for last. I’m going to fight like this until I retire. But I want to fight for as long as I can.” Hopkins also received tribute from Foreman, whose record he broke.

“What great conditioning,” he marvelled. “And he did it in Pascal’s home town. Isn’t that something? He was just so much better. I’m happy for Hopkins and I’m happy for mature athletes.”

The arrest of a man who sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl before mutilating her vagina for rituals has put Adamawa state on the spot.

Doctors say the little girl, survivor of the gruesome attack (name withheld), will require reconstruction of her vagina because of the severity of the mutilation by the suspect, identified as Kunini Jacob.

The commissioner of police in Adamawa State, Adenrele Shinaba who led the parade of Mr Jacob and an herbalist behind the ritual plot, said there will no longer be a resting place for criminals in the state.

Mr Jacob (23), was arrested along with his mother who was allegedly shielding him from security agents. Incidentally, the suspect was only recently released from jail after serving a three-year jail sentence for a related offence.

Mr Jacob told journalists his action was “the work of the devil” and that he was acting on the instruction of an herbalist who told him to procure the intestine of a virgin along with her private part for ritual to give him instant wealth.

Mr Shinaba said Zidon Digga, at Dong Village in Bidoma Development Area of Adamawa state, reported to the police two weeks ago that his five-year-old daughter was missing. He said the little girl was later found in a pool of her blood and rushed to the state Specialist Hospital for treatment.

Azubike Chuks, leader of the doctors that carried out two sets of emergency surgeries on the child, said when she was brought in, her intestine was outside and that the first operation was to return the intestine.

The report showed that the thin layer separating her vagina and rectum was mutilated by the attacker. The doctor said a third operation is needed to join the two parts together.

But Mr Bala distanced himself from the crime, saying he did not instigate the main suspect to commit the crime.

The police boss said the suspects will be charged to court for the offence of criminal conspiracy, house trespass, kidnapping, rape and attempt to commit culpable homicide.

The young victim is now at the Yola specialist centre awaiting a third surgery. But Mr Azuibike said this will cost several hundred of thousands, which neither the hospital or the child’s family could afford.

“We appealed to public-spirited persons to help and so far only N20,000 has come in,” he told NEXT

Culture of silence

Recently, the state education board dismissed two teachers found guilty of committing paedophilic acts on pupils under their care. One was a head teacher who impregnated one of a female pupil in one of the sub-urban primary schools in Jimeta, while the other involved a teacher in one of the special schools in Jada.

Bakari Adamawa, state chairman of the state universal basic education board blamed what he called “the culture of silence” for the prevalence of sexual abuse of minors in the state.

“We have called the education secretaries and warned them that they should live up to their duties,” he said. “They should make sure head teachers are aware of what is happening in their schools.

“We are coming out with new codes of conduct for teachers and we are also going to carry put special training for teachers on how to handle children. There was another investigation which we couldn’t conclude because the parent didn’t want to talk about it. You know some parents really don’t want to talk about it. It is a really sad experience and they don’t want to recall it.”

It's a sad fact of growing older for the male species. Most men over the age of 60 (and some in their 50s) develop some symptoms of prostate problems. The three most common disorders are benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate; prostatitis, an inflammatory infection; and prostate cancer. BPH is so common that some physicians consider it a normal consequence of aging in males.

The prostate's main role is to produce an essential portion of the seminal fluid that carries sperm. This walnut-shaped gland located just below a man's bladder starts to kick in near puberty and continues to grow and grow. This enlargement doesn't usually cause symptoms until after age 40, and it usually doesn't cause problems until age 60 or later.

An enlarged prostate is problematic because it presses on the urethra, creating difficulties with urination and weakening the bladder. Some of the symptoms of prostate problems include:

  • difficulty urinating

  • frequent urination, especially at night

  • difficulty starting urination

  • an inability to empty the bladder

  • a dribble of urine despite the urgent need to urinate

  • a burning sensation when urinating

  • uncontrolled dribbling after urination

  • pain behind the scrotum

  • painful ejaculation
Ignoring prostate problems, as some men are wont to do, isn't a smart idea. Left untreated, prostate problems can get progressively worse, become more painful, and can lead to dangerous complications, including bladder and kidney infections.

Changes in diet can help relieve some prostate discomforts and, in some cases, may reduce the chances of developing prostate cancer. Check out how home remedies from the kitchen can help.

Home Remedies from the Cupboard

Pumpkin seeds. Pumpkin seeds are used by German doctors to treat difficult urination that accompanies an enlarged prostate that is not cancerous. The seeds contain diuretic properties and plenty of zinc, which helps repair and build the immune system. The tastiest way to enjoy pumpkin seeds is to eat them plain. Remove the shells and don't add salt. You can also try a tea. Crush a handful of fresh seeds and place in the bottom of a 1-pint jar. Fill with boiling water. Let cool to room temperature. Strain and drink a pint of pumpkin seed tea a day.

Home Remedies from the Refrigerator

Corn silk. The silk from corn has been used by Amish men for generations as a remedy for the symptoms of prostate enlargement. When fresh corn is in season, cut the silk from 6 ears of corn. (Corn silk can be dried for later use, too.) Put in 1 quart water, boil, and simmer for ten minutes. Strain and drink a cup. Drink 3 cups a week.

Fish. From the deep comes a way to fight prostate cancer and tumor growth. Try to get 2 servings a week of fish high in omega-3 oils (the good oil), such as tuna, mackerel, or salmon.

Soy. Learning to like and use soy foods is an easy and good way to help nip prostate problems in the bud. Soy-based foods contain phytoestrogens, which are thought to help reduce testosterone production, which is believed to aggravate prostate cancer growth. The phytoestrogens are believed to limit the growth of blood capillaries that form around tumors of the prostate.

Tomatoes. Seize that salsa! Pour on the spaghetti sauce! Down that tomato juice! Learn to add more tomatoes to your diet. Studies have shown that as little as 2 servings of tomatoes (including cooked tomatoes) a week can help men reduce their risk of prostate cancer by half. These red orbs are full of lycopene, an antioxidant compound that helps fight cancer.

Watermelon seeds. The Amish use watermelon tea to flush out the system and help with bladder problems and prostate problems. Enjoy a slice of watermelon and spit the seeds in a cup. When you have1/8 cup fresh watermelon seeds, put them in a 1-pint jar and fill with boiling water. Let the tea cool, strain, and drink. Drink 1 pint of tea every day for ten days.

Home Remedies from the Supplement Shelf

Saw palmetto. The extract of the berries of this plant has been shown to work as well or better than prescription drugs in improving urinary flow rates and reducing the symptoms of BPH, such as urinary hesitancy and weak flow. The extract works by altering certain hormone levels, thus reducing prostate enlargement. Palmetto extracts can be purchased at the health food store. Consult your physician for recommended dosages.

Stinging nettle. Stinging nettle has been used in Europe for more than a decade, and studies have shown it to reduce symptoms of prostate problems. Nettle helps by inhibiting binding of testosterone-related proteins to their receptor sites on prostate cell membranes. Take stinging nettle in extract form (as capsules). Check with your physician for the correct dosage.

Do Remember
  • Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
  • Limit your intake of fatty foods and red meats.
  • Schedule an annual prostate exam. Catching problems early is vital.
  • Watch your alcohol intake. Studies have shown that beer can raise prolactin levels in the body, which in turn can eventually lead to prostate enlargement.

12166312067?profile=originalHere is an article from Natural News about research on electronics and sleep deprivation.
We have known this for years and I have been suggesting to people that they NOT have a TV in their bedroom and not play on the computer just before bed. Personally, I also use full spectrum lighting before bed and sleep on a Nikken magnetic mattress to reset my body’s natural rhythm during sleep. See my website st www.nikken.com/bychoice for information on these products

(NaturalNews) Do you use your computer, watch television, or mess around on your cell phone within the hour before you go to bed at night? If so, you might be altering your sleep cycle and preventing quality rest, according to a new study conducted as part of a National Sleep Foundation poll. Researchers say that staring at light-emitting screens during the hour before going to sleep inhibits the proper release of melatonin, a hormone that regulates the body’s natural sleep cycles.

Roughly 95 percent of poll respondents indicated that they typically play video games, watch television, use the computer, or access their smart phones within the hour before they go to sleep. And 43 percent of respondents between the ages of 13 and 64 said they rarely ever get a good night’s sleep during an average work week.

“This study reveals that light-emitting screens are in heavy use within the pivotal hour before sleep,” said Charles Czeisler from Harvard Medical School, in a Breitbart piece. “Invasion of such alerting technologies into the bedroom may contribute to the high proportion of respondents who report that they routinely get less sleep than they need.”

While respondents in older generations tended more towards passively watching television before bed, younger respondents indicated participation in more active and brain-engaging activities like playing video games and using smart phones, which experts say may be even worse for sleep and overall health.

“Over the last 50 years, we’ve seen how television viewing has grown to be a near constant before bed, and now we are seeing new information technologies such as laptops, cell phones, video games and music devices rapidly gaining the same status,” said Lauren Hale of Stony Brook University Medical Center. “The higher use of these potentially more sleep-disruptive technologies among younger generations may have serious consequences for physical health, cognitive development, and other measures of well-being.”

Keeping mobile phones and other radiation-emitting devices away from your bed at night will also help improve sleep quality by limiting exposure to the “electro-smog” they emit that can disrupt restful sleep. Long-term exposure to even low levels of electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) may cause serious health problems, so it is always a smart idea to limit their use and keep them away from your body whenever possible (http://www.naturalnews.com/022926_E…).
