Gay pastor escapes mob attack in Lagos

A 21 year old man, Elijah Adisa, who was .accused of sodomising teenagers for ritual purposes., narrowly escaped being lynched by a mob at Amai Street, Amukoko, on Thursday morning.

According to residents of the street, Mr Adisa, who was revered as a man of God, had been engaging in that act for a long time but luck ran out of him last week when his neighbours discovered he was having sex with one of the boys.

"We rushed to his house but he saw us coming and jumped the back fence of his house and ran away," said a resident of the street who did not want to be named.

Mr Adisa was sighted on Thursday morning in the area and it took the timely intervention of the elders in the community to rescue him from a gathering crowd that had descended on him. He was subsequently taken to the house of the Baale (community leader) of the area where some of the youth in the area continued to torture him.

Hypnotic act

Eyewitnesses accused Mr Adisa of hypnotising the boys before sleeping with them on a white cloth spread on the floor in his apartment.

Azeez Kareem, one of the boys who admitted being a victim of Mr Adisa's sexual acts, narrated what he experienced in his house.

"One day we were going to the field to play football when this man called us. He asked our names and our religion, I said Islamic and my cousin said Christian. He said I should leave. I went and came back and they were preaching. I don't know what they are talking," said Master Azeez, 17.

"One day, I just enter the house and I saw one boy. He told the boy to go outside. He then said I should go and buy Atare (Alligator pepper). When I came back he said I should pull my clothes and lie down on the floor, there was a white cloth on the floor. I don't know what he was doing. When he did that finish, he said I should eat the alligator pepper but I did not eat it."

Residents said that Azeez's cousin, Tunde, who had moved in with Mr Adisa for several weeks, had become a changed person in recent times.

"I just came back from school to see that my brother has started living with him. I didn't know him before. I asked my mother that this person that my brother is living with, did he know him somewhere before? She said no, that he is a prophet of God, that God sent him to help the boy. That was the first time I would meet that terrorist (Mr Adisa)," said Wale Razak, Tunde's elder brother.

Tunde was unavailable at the time of the incident; he had gone to write his General Certificate Examination papers.

"He (Tunde) used to be a very noisy chap but since he began living with the terrorist he became a very quiet person, he changed completely. And we were thinking the man was really preaching to him, we never knew he was using juju on him,"

Admission and denial

In absolving himself of any wrong doing, Mr Adisa denied indulging in any ritual act.

"Whatever they say, it is only God that really knows the truth. I did not run away, I went to the mountain to pray, at Osogbo. I only make sex with them," said Mr Adisa.

"I started doing it just this month and I've slept with only two boys. There is nothing like ritual. I don't force them nor give them money and I don't spread anything on the ground."

The beatings that Mr Adisa received from the mob, prompted him to excrete on himself; and the gathered youth proceeded to rub his mouth on the excreta before stripping him naked.

"It is very very bad and they say he is using it for money rituals. It has been going on for long but they just brought the matter to my attention and we have to take it very serious," said Jide Saliu, the Baale of Alafia.

"I have called the police under my jurisdiction. I will hand over everything to them. And I've talked to the Oba of Ijora and he said I should take the matter serious."

It was gathered that police officers from the Pako Police Post, Amukoko, arrived the scene later and took Mr Adisa away for questioning.

PH2010091102326.jpgNEW YORK: A US pastor, who had threatened to burn Quran, on Saturday said he never burn copies of the holy book, even if a mosque is built near ground zero in this America's commercial capital.

"We will definitely not burn the Quran, no," Pastor Terry Jones of Florida told NBC.

"Not today, not ever," he said when pressed whether his planned demonstration might happen at a later date.

He explained that it would not happen even if the Islamic center is built near ground zero, NBC reported.

"Even though we have not burned one Quran, we have gotten over 100 death threats," Jones said.

"We feel that God is telling us to stop, and we also hope that ... maybe that will open up the door to maybe be able to talk to the imam."

Jones had on Friday suspended his plans to burn copies of the Quran claiming that he received a pledge from a Florida Imam that the Islamic cultural center would be moved elsewhere.

However, the Imam refuted his claim and said the "deal" existed only in Jone's mind.

The pastor's threat to burn copies of the holy Quran had stirred outrage in Islamic world, with kings and presidents of Muslim nations joining hands to condemn his plans and asking US President Barack Obama to intervene to stop it.

Obama, on his part, said, the pastor's move could lead to "recruitment bonanza for al-Qaida."

In his Eid greetings, Obama said this year's Eid is also an occasion to reflect on the importance of religious tolerance and to recognise the positive role that religious communities of all faiths, including Muslims, have played in American life.

Non-Muslim nations have also condemned the pastor's plans. .

RCCG pastor arrested over N7.5m unpaid loan
By CHRIS ANUCHA

Thursday, April 29, 2010
A Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor, Akin Obatusin, has been arrested and detained at the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, over a loan of N7.5 million.

Daily Sun gathered that another RCCG pastor, Abimbola Oresegun, wrote a petition to SFU that led to the arrest.

His detention at the Special Fraud Unit was also confirmed by a senior police officer, who spoke to Daily Sun but wouldn’t want his name in print. Problem started when Pastor Obatusin, an Estate Agent, allegedly borrowed the sum of N7.5 million, from the complainant on August 2009, to execute a contract.

The condition attached to the loan was that the suspect would pay back, after one month with 8 per cent interest. Also, the duration of the loan was one month. Two days after collecting the N7.5 million, Obatusin approached Oresegun and requested for another N2 million loan, this time, for himself.

The cleric had told Oresegun he wanted to use the money to complete the construction of his parents’ building, located at Layori Soetan Street, Sawmill, Gbagada, Lagos. The suspect was said to have promised to pay back the money, with 5 percent interest per month, immediately tenants moved into the house. He was also expected to pay back in one month..

However, Oresegun started to smell a rat when his pastor -colleague failed to pay back at the expiration of the one month.

According to a source, when Oresegun approached Obatusin, he (Obatusin) begged him to allow him use the money for further business transactions, a request which Oresegun turned down. After he failed to convince him to allow him hold on to the money, the pastor, again promised to pay in September 2009, before the lender traveled to Toronto, Canada, for further studies. But he never did.

While in Canada, a couple of e-mails were exchanged between the two pastors, during which Obatusin promised to make the money available by the first week of December 2009, when he would have returned to Nigeria. It was gathered that he again extended it to January 4, 2010. Following many breach of his promises, Oresegun decided to take the matter to their senior pastors, through a letter dated March 18, 2010. In the letter, the lender narrated how he lent some money to Obatusin and how he failed to honour the gentleman agreement he entered into with him.

Oresegun sought the Senior Clerics’ intervention, to prevail on Obatusin, now a Church Administrator, to pay back the money he borrowed from him.

Also in the letter, he told his fellow pastors how the suspect had in a separate business deals, assisted his wife to refurbish a building, let it out and allegedly collected N3.6 million, but refused to remit the money to his wife. It was when his efforts to collect the money failed that Oresegun decided to report the matter to the Special Fraud Unit. At SFU.

The complainant narrated how he had known the suspect at RCCG, Maranatha Chapel, Gbagada, Lagos, since 1999, which his wife attended.

He explained that his trust in Obatusin was based on the fact that he (Obatusin) once assisted him to procure a land and Certificate of Occupancy (C of O). The complainant also attached copies of e-mails exchanges between two of them to the petition he sent to SFU. The e-mails also were made available to Daily Sun.

Robbers kill Christ Embassy pastor, newly married couple ...Pastor’s fiancée goes into coma, hospitalized Mr. Chris Ipigbhe, a sub-pastor at one of the Christ Embassy’s satellite parish, Baruwa, at Ipaja area of Lagos, had just attended an evening service that fateful Wednesday , where he personally mounted the pulpit to preach. He never had the premonition that it was going to be his last sermon, as he was later shot dead by some dare-devil robbers shortly after. The robbers also allegedly killed no fewer than four persons, including a newly wedded couple. Daily Sun gathered that the substantive pastor was said to be away and had asked the sub-pastor to take charge. The up-coming pastor did just that and was said to be seeing off one of the church members, an elderly woman, as it was already dark, when they ran into some armed robbers, who were operating in the same compound where the woman he was seeing off lives. “She begged the robbers, who were holding sway at the gate, not to harm the pastor. She told them he was his son and that they were coming back from the church” our source said. The pastor was said to have been ordered to lie face-down while the female member was asked to raise her two hands to the sky. Unfortunately for the pastor, some of the robbers who were operating upstairs were said to have come downstairs with their loot when they saw the pastor and the woman “serving their punishment” and appeared not to be satisfied. One of the bandits, allegedly shot the pastor ripping open his stomach and his intestines gushing out. After shooting their victims, the robbers allegedly operated from room to room, carting away money and other valuables belonging to the residents of the two-storey building. The rattled woman was said to have screamed for help until her co-tenants, who were also victims of the robbery incident rushed out to help her to take the pastor to a nearby hospital. Two residents, Francis Alumhe and James Igbape narrated how the victim was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), adding that he later gave up the ghost. Alumhe, who claimed to be the deceased’s bosom friend said the pastor, visited him in his office earlier in the day, adding that they were together till 2 pm that fateful day. The pastor’s fiancée, who was said to have travelled to Abuja, came back the same day her husband to-be was brutally killed by the robbers. Daily Sun gathered that when she arrived at the Airport, she made several phone calls to the pastor, unknown to her that he was in a coma as result of the gunshot. The lady, who arrived in the house to be told that the pastor was shot right in her house, as he was seeing her mother off, also became unconscious and was taken to the hospital. She was at the hospital, receiving treatment when Daily Sun visited. Meanwhile, police operatives at Ipaja were said to be investigating the tragic incident and have vowed to fish out the bandits and to bring them to book. The bodies of the victims were said to have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.
