Shareholders are stakeholders in a corporation, but stakeholders are not always shareholders. A shareholder owns part of a company through stock ownership, while a stakeholder is interested in the performance of a company for reasons other than just stock appreciation.

Stakeholders could be:

  • employees who, without the company, would not have jobs

One of the most memorable works of fiction I read as a pre-teen is a children’s story by Washington 12166327681?profile=originalIrving titled Rip Van Winkle. I still remember my excitement watching the cartoon version of the story on Lagos Weekend Television (LTV) in the 80’s. Seeing one of my favorite tales come to life before my eyes was a joy unparalleled! For those of you who’ve never heard of this classic fiction, I’ll do you the honour of summarizing the tale:

The story is set in the pre- American Revolution War. Its central character is a man, Rip Van Winkle, who lives in a village at the foot of the Kaatskill Mountains along with his kids and nagging wife (Dame Van Winkle). He is well loved by the kids in the village because he often gives toys and entertains them with stories. He enjoys solitude and has a penchant for idleness which often incurs the wrath of his nagging wife. She complains incessantly about his lack of industry and neglect for his farm land which is constantly in disarray.

On one fateful autumn day, Rip escapes into the mountains with his dog, Wolf, to escape a barrage of nagging from his wife. As he wanders along he hears someone calling his name. On proceeding towards the direction of the voice, he comes in contact with a man dressed in old fashioned Dutch clothing. The man asks Rip for help and without hesitation, he assists the stranger in carrying a keg of rum all the way into a hollow-like Amphitheatre in the mountain. There he meets other men similarly dressed like the stranger, playing ninepins and drinking rum boisterously. He soon joins them in their drinking and revelry and before long, falls into a deep sleep.

He awakens and it is morning. He skin is wrinkled, his beard is long, his gun is old and rusted and Wolf is nowhere to be found. He returns to the village to find out that he has been asleep for 20 long years; his wife is now late, the American Revolution has taken place and his close friends have all died in the war. Someone calls out to a man called Rip Van Winkle who turns out to be his son, now a grown man. He is eventually taken in by his daughter who’s also now a full grown adult.

Such was Rip Van Winkle’s fate; missed out on every detail of life for 2 decades. The last he remembered, he was a young man wandering into the mountains. And now he awakens an old man unable to account for the past 20 years of his life.

I can relate to Rip Van Winkles experience because I too feel like I have been in a coma for that long; I can’t really account for the past 20 years of my life. The last I remembered I was an enthusiastic youth looking forward to an exciting future, but I am now in a future far different from what I had anticipated. There are lot of things I ought to have accomplished by now which just didn’t matter to me. Why didn’t they matter until now? Why has my mind been oblivious to the opportunities of the day? What did I do with all that time? How did the grey hairs sneak up on me undetected? Why did I never have a strong desire to get married until now? Why am I living far less than my potential while others who had far less potential at the beginning have gone far ahead? Why was I so comfortable with my self-imposed limitations? What was it that put me to sleep? Why am I suddenly waking up to the harsh reality that the time is short? Why now and not earlier? Just wondering if I am the reincarnated Rip Van Winkle.

This reminds me of Sharru Nada’s account in the all-time classic, The Richest man in Babylon. 40 years ago he arrived at Babylon a slave, and saw some labourers toiling by the gateway leading into the city. 40 years later he returns to Babylon a wealthy free man and notices the same men still toiling by the same spot; they’d had made no progress for 40 years.  God forbid that should be my testimony!

I talked this over with a friend and told him of my painful awakening and he said to me, “anytime a man wakes up, that is morning for him. No need to wallow in regrets. Forge ahead! I have decided from this point on not to allow the latter part of my life become a reflection of my past.

I am going to redeem the time!

12166308456?profile=originalFertility treatments can be done safely and effectively in couples where the man is infected with the AIDS virus and the women isn't, according to a new review of past studies.

Over the last 2 decades, researchers have improved methods of "washing" the semen of men infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Unwashed semen could pass HIV to the woman or their baby.

"I think the procedure is getting safer and safer," said Dr. Deborah Anderson, a scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine who studies HIV. She was not involved in the current research, but she told Reuters Health that washing the man's semen lowers the risk of transmission enough that "it's an acceptable ... procedure for couples that really want to have children."

In the new review, published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, researchers from the Evandro Chagas Clinical Research Institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil looked at 17 earlier studies involving a total of about 1,800 couples in which only the male partner had HIV.

In each of the studies, researchers performed one of two common types of fertility treatments after washing the semen. Then they recorded how often women became pregnant after the procedures. They also monitored the women and any babies they had as a result of the procedures, to see whether HIV had been passed on from the semen.

About a third of the women had a procedure in which a single sperm is injected into a single egg; then the fertilized egg is placed into the woman's womb. This kind of fertility treatment is assumed to be safer for couples in which the male partner has HIV because it is easier to ensure that the sperm being used does not have the HIV virus. The rest of the women had sperm injected directly into the womb, when their eggs were most likely to be there.

Ultimately, roughly half the women became pregnant, and about 80 to 85 percent of the pregnancies resulted in the birth of a baby. The success rates for pregnancy were comparable to what has been shown in other studies of fertility treatment in couples without HIV. If anything, couples in the current study may have been more likely to get pregnant using fertility treatments because many of them had no underlying fertility problems, the authors say.

None of the women in the study, or babies that were born after fertility treatments, tested positive for HIV. However, in a few of the studies in which researchers tested semen after it was washed, between two and eight of every 100 samples tested positive for HIV - indicating that it still may be possible, if unlikely, for the virus to be passed either to the woman or to the fetus.

However, the findings are "very reassuring," according to Dr. Elizabeth Ginsburg of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Center for Reproductive Medicine in Boston. Ginsburg, who was not involved in the study, said that even if some of the samples did test positive for HIV, the amount of the virus was probably so small that it wasn't likely to be passed to the mother or baby. In addition, she said, HIV transmission requires some sort of trauma to the woman's body because the virus is passed from semen to blood, and although there's a chance of that in intercourse, it's not likely in fertility treatment.

Despite mounting evidence of its safety, fertility procedures are not very common in couples in which the male partner has HIV. In part that's because the procedures aren't often covered by insurance, Ginsburg said. Although some fertility procedures may be as inexpensive as $1,000, others run many times higher. "One of the things that is a shame is that when couples can't afford fertility treatment, they're stuck with the other option, which is having timed intercourse, and that puts the woman at risk," Ginsburg said.

Anderson said a new option for these couples might become available in the future - medications that the woman can take to avoid getting the virus from her partner who has HIV. And, "if the mom doesn't get it, the baby's not going to get it," she said. "I think that's going to be the future of this field."

So far, only a couple of early studies have been done on the drugs' effectiveness at preventing transmission of the virus, and for now, Anderson said, fertility treatment is the safest possible option for these couples.

IRKED by the assault meted out on his son, Prince Ekpen Erediauwa, by the Chairman of the Edo State Task Force Committee on the Vandalization of Pipeline and also the youth leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Edo State, Mr Osakpanwa Eriyo, the  Benin monarch, Oba Erediauwa, yesterday, placed a curse on the alleged culprit after describing the action as a taboo in Benin Kingdom.12166304073?profile=original

PROTEST: Chiefs and elders of Benin placing curses on the Chairman of the Taskforce Committee on the Vandalisation of Pipelines, over his alleged assault on the Oba of Benin's son, at the Oba's Palace, in Benin City, yesterday. Photo by Barnabas Uzosike.
This came as thousands of youths, dressed in red attire, market women and royal family members, protested round Benin City, yesterday, demanding for the banishment of Eriyo from the kingdom, explaining that assaulting a Prince of the kingdom was sacrilegious, and capital punishment should be meted on him.
Meanwhile, the Edo State government, in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Peter Okhiria, yesterday, announced the suspension of Mr Eriyo as Chairman of the Anti-Pipeline Vandalization Committee, adding “all contracts in respect of revenue collection in Oredo Local Government Area are also hereby suspended.”

It will be recalled that  Eriyo, who also doubles as the Chairman Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Edo State chapter, had weekend, assaulted the Transition Committee Chairman of Oredo Local Government Area of the state, Prince Erediauwa during a meeting of the leadership of the ACN in Oredo council. But Osakpanwa had denied that he assaulted the Prince in a statement.
Reacting swiftly, the Oba’s chiefs, led by the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe; the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri; Obasogie of Benin Kingdom, Chief Eduwor Ekhator and the entire palace chiefs, went round the city, with pots of charms and placed curse on Osakpanwa after he was declared an enemy of the Oba.
In a statement by the Chairman, Peace and Conflict Resolution in the Oba’s Palace, Chief Eduwor Ekhator, it said “no one can demystify the monarchical value of the Benin Royal Palace of the Oba. Attempt by any person or persons to destroy the long existing peace and unity of the Benin will be checked with rebuked condemnation.
“The attempt on the Benin Prince was a demonstration of recklessness and lack of respect for a constituted authority. It is highly provocative, sacrilegious and unacceptable and thereby deserves total condemnation by every Edo son and daughter both at home and in the Diaspora. However, the palace of the Oba advises all sympathizers to obey the rule of law,” it added.

12166304279?profile=originalTwo persons were killed yesterday as the rift between the son of the Benin monarch, Prince Ekpen Erediauwa and suspended chairman of Edo State Task Force on Anti-Pipeline Vandalisation Osakpamwan Eriyo worsened.

Two casualties were recorded in a clash between the prince’s and Eriyo’s supporters.

The clash, which occurred  about 9am on the popular Lagos Street in Benin City, saw motorists and traders scampering for safety when shootings started.

Several vehicles were destroyed;  traders did not open their shops out of fear.

The victims were identified as Raphael Oke, who died on the spot and Osamuyi Obazee, who died at the Central Hospital where he was taken to.

Two others, who were injured, are said to be in the hospital.

Sources said trouble started when Eriyo, who doubles as the State Chairman of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and State Youth Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, visited his in-law, Chief Arala Osula, to complain that Osula’s children had joined Erediauwa to fight him.

Osula said before he could come out of his house, Eriyo’s supporters had started shooting sporadically and three boys in the locality were shot.

His words: “I know there is a quarrel between Osakpamwan and the Prince. He knew my children were close to Erediauwa so he decided to bring them into the feud.

“I am married to his elder sister and one of my sons is staying with him.”

Osula refused to allow policemen to carry Oke’s body to the mortuary, insisting that he will take it to the Oba‘s Palace but he agreed after pleadings from the police officers.

Members of RTEAN went into hiding yesterday for fear of being attacked by aggrieved youths from the area.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday suspended Eriyo.

A statement by the Secretary, Chief Osaro Idah said Eriyo would remain suspended, pending the outcome of ongoing investigation.

Youths in the locality protested, asking for the government to arrest Eriyo.

Police spokesman Peter Ogboi said only one person died and that two others were injured.

Ogboi said those fingered would be arrested after investigation.

Eriyo could not be reached for comments.

The feud started last weekend after Eriyo allegedly beat up Erediauwa, who is the Transition Committee Chairman of Oredo local council, over revenue contract.

The Okoye family in Awgu Enugu State is battling to come to terms with what became of their son months after he left his home in Lagos for a prayer mission.
Okoye-disappear[1].gif?width=228
Okoye

Peter Joseph Okoye who was last seen on November 21, 2010 could rightly be said to have just disappeared.

He is founder of Jesus the Man I Know Ministry and was to travel to his hometown in a week’s time before his disappearance to commence processes for his marriage. While Peter’s whereabouts remain a mystery his beloved fiancée, Ifunanya Umeh keeps waiting for the marriage.

The beginning of the gist is that Peter was allegedly sent to Ijebu Ode by a member of his ministry, Philip Enyabine to rescue a man struck by lightning.

In a petition to the Inspector General of Police, the family is alleging that Ifunanya was used as bait by his boss, Enyabine, to lure their brother to his waterloo. They claimed that the duo pricked by their sense of guilt, dramatically turned round to be the ones raising alarm about Peter, when the family still presumed that he was on one of his usual evangelical missions that sometimes kept him for days, except on Fridays.

Their story

Tracing his disappearance, his elder brother Uche, told Saturday Sun that his brother, an evangelist, spent little or no time in their house at 38 Osho Drive, Olodi, Apapa, Lagos. He recalled that on November 20, Sunday, Peter returned from a programme with a food flask supposedly from his fiancée. He told his brothers that his wife prepared a dish for him which he shared with his brother and friends. “Shortly after the meal he left for his usual work. Because of the demands of his ministry, nobody bothered to know whether he came back to the house or not. We became worried when on November 23 his fiancée, Ifunanya, called our sister, in Nsukka demanding to know if Peter was with her.”

Peter’s sibling wondered why Ifunaya who was a regular visitor at their home could call their sister in far away Nsukka. They immediately tried his mobile line to find he had switched off. They also called Ifunanya back to hear from her that Peter went to see one of the members of his ministry, Philip Enyiabine. The siblings visited Enyiabine, a familiar person to the family to know if he knew their brother’s whereabouts. Uche said Enyiabine told them that he sent Philip to rescue his friend who was struck by lightning at a monastery in Ijebu Ode.

“He said his friend was on his way to the east, when his vehicle broke down at Ore. He decided to go down to the Ijebu Ode monastery, where he was struck by lightning. He said he had spoken with Peter who confirmed to him he was at Ijebu Ode for the prayer and had promised to return as soon as possible.”

Confusion

All friends and allies were determined to help the Okoyes find their brother. To demonstrate his commitment, Enyabine, gave the team some money to travel to Ijebu Ode and its environs incase, Peter was involved in an accident. On November 26, the rescue team combed all prayer sites in Oyo and Ogun states and some of the monks on site told them that they did not see someone that fits their description of Peter who also was a regular visitor to the prayer mountains in the area. At the Ogun Monastery, the monk in-charge, told them that there was no incident of thunder strike in the area and called its Ijebu Ode branch that also affirmed that no one was struck. Back in Lagos they lodged a complaint with the police and Federal Road Safety Corp. Both told them they had no record involving their brother.

Back home and confused, the family kept on making frantic efforts to locate their brother, Pastors who claimed to have the spirit of vision visited them and promised to help them locate their brother. One of such persons was Peter’s assistant. But after sometime and search efforts, the family got threat calls from unknown persons warning them to stay off the effort and attempt to locate Peter or risk facing same fate.

However hope of finding Peter waxed on November 28 when the family received a call from a man who claimed to have abducted him. The caller demanded N5m ransom, but finally agreed to take N200,000 after much pleading to release him. Still determined to help the family find Peter, Enyabine also gave N100,000. They were directed to drop the money at a spot in Ajegunle, Lagos, which they did with the promise that Peter would be released the next day. They waited endlessly and Peter was not found nor released till now.

Accusations

The matter took another dimension when the family discovered that Ifunanya was allegedly hiding some important information from them. After much pressure, she told the family that Enyabine had alleged that Peter made away with his money. Taken aback, the family wondered why Enyabine or Peter’s fiancée never told them of this development all this while.

They confronted Enyabine who confirmed that Peter defrauded him of N20 million.

“I asked him to explain to the entire family, how our brother who he never had any business with duped him of N20m. He told us that he kept money in a special room and Peter asked him to mix the money with some dollars and pray so the money will increase. And true to his words the money increased and he was advised to keep it in that room. He never suspected anything till Peter disappeared. They opened the house and discovered that all the money, about N5m was gone. At that point it became clear that Enyabine could know the whereabouts of our brother, so we reported the case to the police.”

He narrated further that: “I introduced my brother to Enyabine when he had problem in his business. Months after the introduction, his life changed and in appreciation, Enyabine gave him a brand new bus and a flat at Iyana Iba. He also employed his fiancée as personal assistant. It was after this discovery that I recalled that Peter had told us that he was offered money by some people to stop praying for Enyabine. Even if, our brother owes him, let him tell us where to find him and he will surely get his money back. Why did it take him 13 days to open up and accuse my brother of theft if there is no hidden agenda? We felt betrayed that a woman our brother is planning to marry would do this.”

All efforts to get across to Enyabine failed as his phone numbers where out of reach. Our finding is that he has since relocated to Abuja where the matter is being investigated. Ifunanya who was also indicted told Saturday Sun on phone that she was arrested and taken to Abuja for investigation. “I have been released and I know that my God will vindicate me.”

Police investigation

When the suspicion heightened, the Okoyes reported the matter to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation, Panti, and Enyabine and Ifunanya were arrested and interrogated. Not satisfied with the outcome of the investigation, the family sought the transfer of the case to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Adeniji Adele, Lagos.

The event however took a dramatic turn, when the suspect, Enyabine tired of harassment cried for justice and the Okoye brothers were arrested and transferred to Abuja where the Commissioner for Police, Special Investigation Unit is handling the case. At the time of filing this report Uche was still in detention for false accusation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olusola Amore told Saturday Sun that the police are investigating the matter to find out what became of Peter. He also said in response to Uche’s detention that in the course of investigation, both the accused and the complainant are relevant and the police cannot be used to intimidate any person when investigation has not shown that the accused is guilty.

He called on the Okoye family to be patient as the police would bring anyone involved in the sudden disappearance of Peter to face the wroth of the law.

Man to Hang for Kidnap murder

Aba (Abia) — A High Court in Aba, Abia, yesterday, sentenced a 30-year-old man to death by hanging for kidnapping and murdering his victim...

Loveday Ahuchaogu, the kidnapper from Umuawa in Isiala-Ngwa Local Government Area of the state and others still at large, were facing a four-count charge for kidnapping and murdering Mr. Francis Ajayi on July 28, 2008, at Umudike in Ikwuano, near Umuahia.

Ahuchaogu was charged with kidnapping, murder, conspiracy and robbery.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Theresa Uzokwe, in her judgment, ruled that the accused was found guilty of the offences as charged and gave Ahuchaogu seven years imprisonment with hard labour for conspiracy and 10 years with hard labour for kidnapping.

The accused also got 10 years with hard labour for robbery and was condemned to death by hanging for murder...

Mrs. Ngozi Obioma, Director of Legal Services in charge of the Public Prosecution Division of Abia State Ministry of Justice, Aba Out-station, who is the lead prosecuting counsel, told newsmen shortly after the court sitting that it was a fair judgment.

Obioma said that Ahuchaogu’s defence was flimsy and frivolous against the weight and gravity of evidence against him as adduced by the prosecution.

She said the evidence against the accused was overwhelming as he was caught red-handed in the banking hall on camera while trying to cash the third tranche of the ransom money.

She said Ahuchaogu, who admitted collecting two other tranches of the ransom money, was also implicated through the SIM card of the deceased that was tendered as exhibit.

“It is my belief that justice is seen to have been done today, everybody in Abia, particularly Aba and environs, will agree that the menace of kidnapping has been on the increase, creating fears on residents.

“It will also serve as a deterrent to others who may be nursing the idea of embarking on such dangerous escapade,” Obioma said.

Mr I.U. Nwokocha, Counsel to the accused, however, pleaded for leniency for his client.

PORT HARCOURT: Ngozi whose age was put at 27 thought she had found her heart throb. She was in love; every other thing probably came second in her world while her lover, Victor who was said to be in his mid- 30s took the first position.

The suspect after he was apprehended

advertisement
He meant everything to her. She demonstrated this in her actions and utterances because she lived and laboured for him. Her world apparently revolved around Victor.

But like the saying goes, you only know those you love, you don't with all certainty know those that love you.

That was the story of Ngozi. Convinced that she had found her Mr Right she probably became blind to any observation from a third party on the relationship when it contrasted with her feeling and understanding of what she was into..

In economic terms, she played the role of a man in the relationship. She sold vegetable for a lady at a spot styled Fruit Market on Kaduna Street in Port Harcourt to eke out a living.

Nobody could really say how she met her lover but Ngozi rented a small apartment, not the size of a standard one-room, on Ogbunabali area of Port Harcourt. The apartment was probably what her meagre take home from hawking vegetable for her employee at the Fruit Market could afford.

Her lover allegedly painted the picture of a homeless young man before her. So she accepted his plea to live with her in the poorly ventilated and lighted room.

While Ngozi would wake up in the morning and head straight to her vegetable business, neighbours around said Victor would hang around the compound till noon time and then take a stroll out to no specific place only to come back in the evening when Ngozi would have been back. Ngozi on her way back would buy some food items for meals at home.

They would eat and sleep off. It became the routine neighbours were aware off.

On May 27 this year, the story changed. They both came in that Thursday evening.

According to Victor she prepared food, they ate after which "I had marathon sex with her". Later she slept off. He said in the midnight he stealthily opened the door to get a rod and came back in.

The rod on his right hand, he looked at her cheerful face on the bed and the thought of killing her flooded his mind. He said he raised the rod to hit her but suddenly as if she had a sign, she shifted on the bed, apparently to change her sleeping position.

This caused him to wait a while to thoroughly observe if she was awake. Satisfied that she was in deep sleep, her lover said he raised the rod and brought it down very hard on her head.

From her sleep, the girl screamed "Jesus". And quickly he went for her neck, the intention being to complete the job by strangling her with one of her clothes lying on the floor. He said he applied his weight on a pillow he had already used to cover her nose and mouth.

And gradually his lover gave up the ghost. After killing her, he remained with the corpse in the room till morning when he was sure the main gate in the compound would have been opened.

Quietly, he locked the door and sneaked away. A day after, being the 29 while the nation was marking its democracy day, he resurfaced in the compound this time with a taxi driver.

He went to the room, forced the remains of his deceased lover into a waste bin but he had difficulty in doing this because of rigor mortis had set in. He had to rush out to get a big bag and forced the corpse into it.

And assisted by the taxi driver they deposited it in the boot of the car. It is not clear if the taxi driver knew what was in the bag. Together they drove to a burrow pit on Ada George area to dump it.

Before he left with the big bag neighbours were already getting suspicious that something fishy was going on. When they asked him of his girl he said she was on admission at the state owned Braithwaite Memorial Hospital.

One of the neighbours told the Vanguard Metro that when he zoomed off with the taxi he quickly ran to the female ward at BMH to verify if she was truly admitted there. He said he combed the hospital for her but could not find her. So when he came back he told his other neighbours about his suspicion.

They had to peep through the window into her room and what they saw on the floor rattled them. "There was blood everwhere. And quickly we concluded that he had killed the girl," he said.

Meantime, after disposing the corpse, Victor came back to clean up the room. As he stepped into the apartment the neighbours again demanded to know the whereabouts of his girl friend.

This time he sensed that they were becoming suspicious and he took to his heels. Already the landlord of the compound had been alerted on phone about the development.

And he had instructed that the neighbours should hold him pending when he returned from his business place. Like a wounded lion, Victor ran for his life. At a point he shook off those chasing him.

The landlord who does not want his name in print said when he got to a junction close to his house he saw some of those he asked to hold the suspect. They told him that Victor had escaped. While they were still rubbing minds on what next to do he said Victor was sighted some metres away running towards their direction.

Under his instruction they all ducked behind his car And as the Victor ran close to the spot they pounced on him. Some security men around the traffic light stepped in immediately, threatening to shoot Victor after he confessed to the murder. He told the gathering there that he did not regret his action.

When asked why he killed the girl, he told the crowd that it was because his late lover was always buying cheap clothes for him with her money.

The clothes, according to him, made him appear shabby before her whenever they went to church on Sundays.

He said he would have fled after killing her but he had to come back to dispose of the corpse because he did not want the family of the deceased girl to perform any ritual on it that would make her ghost to start haunting him.

He later led the crowd to the burrow pit where he dumped the corpse. Those around had to exhume the corpse which was already fast decomposing.

It is not clear how the case is being handled at press time but Vanguard Metro gathered that Victor was in prison custody. Nobody could say if he was being tried or if he was remanded in custody on account of his confession.

Meanwhile, some people who spoke to the Vanguard Metro on the incident said they alerted rights groups in the state when it happened but they were disappointed by their lack of response.

"They did not show any interest probably because there was no donor agency fund for such. This is why I disagree with most of them when they say they are fighting for the people because they only come out when they have donor agency funds on an issue," one of them lamented to the Vanguard Metro.

From all indications, the yearnings of those familiar with the incident is that justice should be done on the matter. "It is possible the family of the deceased may not have the means to pursue justice on this matter but it should not be traded with," one of them said.

When you see some guys in tee shirt you notice that they have breasts ! Some are quite funny indeed ! anyway Do you ladies like men with boobs or man boobs, moobies as they are called. Or it doesnt matter so long as he has a nice JEEP with a nice Job /bank account .90percent of our Senators and most males above 30 in Naija have man boobs !

But guys dont fret there are many Stars that have this just see pics below and there is a solution !

Here is what a male friend of mine had to say
i am getting rid of my man boobs. Why? . If you ask my girlfriend, she’ll tell you . She doesn’t flip them anymore. Now, she grabs them and asks me to flex. There’s a big difference between someone flapping your flabby man boobs around and getting a big handful of newly ripped muscle.

Well, I won’t say that I’m ripped just yet. Besides, I’ve only been going to the gym for about 4 months now, and you can’t expect to see your man boobs disappear with a snap of your fingers or after doing one rep. on a bench press machine. If you want to get rid of man boobs you’re going to have to be patient and exercise a little self discipline. What follows are a few general suggestions for getting rid of or at least reducing the appearance of your manly bosom.

Ways to Lose Man Boobs

image 1If you’re between the ages of 12 and 18, what you’ll need to do to get rid of man boobs is—nothing. If you’re a teenage boy and your man boobs are getting sensitive and even a little bit bigger, there’s no reason to fret; this is a normal part of male development during puberty. Trust me, I had sensitive nipples when I was younger, and good god was I scared I was turning into a woman—but I didn’t, and neither will you. Just wait it out, or if you’re really that concerned, go see a doctor and they’ll tell you the same thing.
image 2If you’re over the age of 25 and you’re starting to notice your man boobs getting bigger it might be time to adjust your diet. Once men like you and I start getting closer to 30 the metabolism that kept us from growing beautiful man bosoms when we were younger starts to slack on us a little bit. It’s time to stop with the isiewu, peppers oup and assorted meat foods. Drink less beer, for sure, and stop eating sweets like chocolate and icecream if you want to get rid of man boobs.
image 3Diet isn’t the only thing; if you’re serious about getting rid of man boobs, you’re going to start cardio-aerobic exercises ASAP. After a certain age men tend to build up fat that starts to look like boobs. When your body loses or burns fat, it does so in a global sense; that is, it doesn’t just reduce fat in one area, but all areas. What’s the quickest way to convert fat to energy? Aerobic exercises like running, cross-country skiing, and biking are the best way to lose fat and your plump little man boobies.
image 4Anaerobic exercises (weight lifting) are also a good way to get rid of man boobs. The first exercise you’ll want to focus on is the incline bench press. Most gyms have a machine that focuses specifically on your upper chest; this is the incline press machine. A greater amount of muscle mass in the upper chest will tighten some of that flab around the nipples. Remember that building muscle mass with a weight training regiment requires fewer reps with greater weight.
image 5Working the lower chest, shoulders, and upper back are good things to focus on if you want to reduce the appearance of your man boobs.Building mass around the lower chest will make your boobs look more like schwarzenegger’s man pecs than Grandmumsies sagging womanhood. Building muscle in the shoulders and the upper back will also stretch and tighten the skin of the upper torso on a whole, so work on building greater muscle mass up
there as well as on your chest.

Man Boob Diets & Herbal Supplements according to that Alfa or local area Herb Seller/babalawo

You’ll find no lack of people trying to sell you books and herbs that will apparently get rid of your man boobs with the least amount of effort possible. The truth is, this just isn’t the case. You’ve got all of this research out there, people telling you that an alkaline body is the best way to reduce fat, that this herb or that herb will stabilize this and stabilize that and increase your metabolism and help boost whatever the hell they think needs boosting. They will tell you all of these things because telling people not to drink beer and not to eat fat, and not to consume so much sugar, and to get off their damn couch and go do something for a change—well, telling people this stuff doesn’t sell books, dvds, or the latest nutritional supplements. They’ll tell you that in order to get rid of man boobs you should do everything they tell you, and to put your money where your tits are. The question is: can you trust them?

Gynecomastia, pronounced /ˌɡaɪnɨkɵˈmæstiə/, is the development of abnormally large mammary glands in males resulting in breast enlargement. The term comes from the Greek γυνή gyne (stem gynaik-) meaning "woman" and μαστός mastos meaning "breast". The condition can occur physiologically in neonates (due to female hormones from the mother), in adolescence, and in the elderly. In adolescent boys the condition is often a source of distress, but for the large majority of boys whose pubescent gynecomastia is not due to obesity, the breast development shrinks or disappears within a couple of years.[1] The causes of common gynecomastia remain uncertain, although it has generally been attributed to an imbalance of sex hormones or the tissue responsiveness to them; a root cause is rarely determined for individual cases. The condition may also be caused due to an imbalance of estrogenic and androgenic effects on the breast, resulting in an increased or unopposed estrogen action on breast tissue. Approximately 4 to 10% cases of gynecomastia are due to drugs. Both Digoxinand Furosemide are reported to cause the same condition. Although, chances of gynecomastia could be more if these two drugs are coadministered [2]. Breast prominence can result from hypertrophy of breast tissue, chest adipose tissue (fat) and skin, and is typically a combination. Breast prominence due solely to excessive adipose is often termed pseudogynecomastia[3] or sometimes lipomastia.[4]

Gynecomastia should be distinguished from work hypertrophy of the pectoralis muscles caused by exercise, e.g. swimming, bench press

The richest man in India, Mukesh Ambani, has moved into his new home in Mumbai which is 27 storeys high and worth £630m.

Ambani, his wife and three children have moved into the building which is named Antilia, after a mythical Island. It contains a health club with a gym and dance studio, at least one studio, a ballroom, guestrooms and a range of
lounges and a 50 seater cinema.

There is even an elevated garden with ceiling space to accommodate small trees.

The roof has three helicopter pads and there is also underground parking for 160 cars, which will come in handy for guests at Ambani's forthcoming
housewarming party.

From the top floors of the 173m high property are spectacular views of Mumbai and of the Arabian Sea.

The 53 year-old tycoon is not only the richest man in India but the fourth richest man in the world. In total there is reported to be 37,000 square
metres of space, which is more than the Palace of Versailles.

To keep it running smoothly requires 600 staff.

According to Forbes magazine Ambani, who owns much of Reliance Industries, the oil, retail and biotechnologies conglomerate, is worth £18bn. He used to
help run the company before falling out with his brother.

The glass, steel and tiles used to make the building are reported to be from local sources.

Ambani does not appear to be influenced by calls by the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, for business leaders to be "role models of moderation"..

More:

Antilia, is the proposed name for a twenty-seven floor (560 ft or 173 m) building presently under construction in Mumbai for Indian businessman, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, whose family will occupy about 35,000 square feet (3,300 m2).

Named after the mythical island in the Atlantic, Antillia, it is designed by Chicago architects, Perkins & Will, is estimated to cost US$2 billion, and is inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Situated on a 4,532 square metres (48,780 sq ft) plot at Altamount Road on the famed Malabar Hill, where land prices are upward of US $10,000 per square meter, the building will house parking for 168 cars, a movie theatre for audience of fifty, living quarters on four floors and three helipads

3. Ballroom : The most striking features of the Antilla ballroom are the crystal chandeliers that will take up approximately 80% of the ceiling. The silver stairways lead to a central landing, behind which two retractable doors can open to display works of art. There is also a stage for entertainment or speeches, with a projection screen behind it. A kitchen, about the same size as the ballroom itself, can service hundreds of guests.

4. Bathroom : One of Antilla’s key design themes is the mix of lavish features seen in worldwide homes and elements that are distinctly Indian. The Gingko-leaf sink designs are a good example. Native to India,
the leaves in the sinks are shaped in such a way that their stems guide water into the bowl created by the basket of the leaf.

5. Traditional Lounge : Ambani’s home features countless lounges, offering Reliance Industries guests a quiet escape. Chandeliers and mirrors are a common feature of these rooms, as are finely woven Indian area rugs.

6. Modern Lounge : Each space and floor uses materials not seen anywhere else. The idea is that spaces will blend into one another, giving the impression of consistency and flow, while at the same time displaying different influences and traditions. This furniture, floors, lines and dark woods of this lounge have a more minimalistic approach than the home’s other lounges.

7. Entertainment Level : It’s very common in large homes to have a theater or screening room, but usually they’re just large projection screens with a few nice seats. The Ambani’s theater is more like those seen in
George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch or Frank Pritt’s Portabello Estate–a full-fledged theater, indistinguishable from a cinema. A wine room, snack bar and entertaining space, including couches and tables, fill out the room. This is a detail from a floor plan rendering.

8. Health Level : The indoor/outdoor health level features a lap pool and Jacuzzi that take in views of the city skyline, as well as lounge chairs shaded by trees. Yoga and dance studios, changing rooms for men and women, gyms and a solarium with a juice bar fill out the interior space. There are plans to include an ice room in the center space, where the Ambanis could sit on a hot Mumbai day to cool off in a man-made snow flurry. This is a detail from a floor plan rendering.

9. Garage : The first six floors of the residence will be dedicated to parking for the Ambani family, guests and employees. Hanging vertical gardens dot the exterior. While they make for good decoration, their key function has to do with energy efficiency: The hydroponic plants, grown in liquid nutrient solutions instead of soil, lower the energy footprint of the home by absorbing heat and sunlight and providing shade that helps keep it cool.

10. Roof : The top floor features a covered, outdoor entertaining space with panoramic views of the Mumbai skyline as well as the Arabian Sea. On those days when it’s too hot, or cold, an interior space with floor-to-ceiling windows provides the same luxury.

Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- Rapper T.I. helped police persuade a man not to jump off the roof of high-rise hotel roof in Midtown Atlantaon Wednesday afternoon, police said..

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, talked to the man about how a person "can make itthrough anything," Atlanta Police spokesman James Polite said.

"T.I. just happened to be in the right place at the right time," Polite said.

Harris faces his own life crisis this week when he appears before a federaljudge, who is considering revoking his probation on a weaponsconviction.

Harris offered to help convince the man that "life's not that bad," a proposal that police accepted, he said.

The man, who was not identified by police, agreed to leave the roof to meet with the rapper.

After several minutes of conversation, he was taken into custody andtransported to Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital for a psychologicalevaluation, he said. He was not charged with a crime, he said.

Harris and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, were arrested on drug chargesduring a traffic stop on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California, last month. The charges triggered Friday's probation revocation hearingin Atlanta.

As more and more commercial bike riders are being held in Lagos for flouting the state’s new law that they must not move on highways, some of them have accused Governor Raji Fashola of promulgating laws without ‘human face’..

There is this palpable fear in the minds of some of these commercial bike riders that the governor was stealthily attempting to banish Okada riders, as they are popularly known, from the state.

But these riders are not the only ones feeling the pinch of the new law. Pregnant women are also complaining, especially those that are not mobile.

The Lagos State police spokesman, Frank Mba, while reacting to the continual arrest of commercial bike riders on the highways, said that more and more would be arrested if they fail to comply with the law.

The ire of the commercial bike riders was coming, even as a few Lagosians, especially commercial bus drivers, kept on applauding the governor for his foresight in kicking the commercial bike riders off the highways.

Before the enactment of the law, the governor, at an event held in Ikeja, which also saw the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo in attendance, tried to explain the need for coming up with such restrictions on motorbike riders. According to him, governance should be more of safety for the inhabitants of a state.

He said: “Many children have become orphans, many women are now widows and many men have become widowers, as a result of road traffic accidents arising from the use of Okada. We are not attempting to banish them from Lagos, but to restrict them from some areas within the state, because the money spent on buying artificial limbs is becoming too much. The rate motorbike accidents happen has become alarming.”

Explaining that he knew most people took up commercial bike riding as a means of survival and a way of keeping their families alive, Fashola urged them to comply with the rules and regulations of traffic in the state.

Akpoyibo presented a paper entitled: ‘The Lawlessness of Commercial Motorcycles on Lagos Roads, Particularly on the Highways.’

He noted in his presentation that majority of Lagosians have come to regard commercial motorcycles as a necessary evil. He called on the state government to intervene if Lagos State was to ever realise the vision of becoming a mega city, which has been its destination, in order to attract investors and tourists.

Mr. Tijani Pekins, the national chairman of motorcycle operators of Lagos State, in his welcome address, said security of lives and property were not an issue any government should toy with.

Indeed, Pekins said that he welcomed the development. But acting as a true leader, Pekins pleaded that his members should be allowed to continue to ply service lanes on the expressways, such as Western Avenues, Ikorodu, Mile 12, Badagry Express Road and Apapa-Oshodi expressway.

He added: “We beg the government to help create orderliness in our operations by ensuring that only recognised organisations or associations practice trade union activities among motorcycle riders in the State.”

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, said the resolve of the Lagos State Government on motorcycle operation in the state to maintain law and order, was that no person shall operate a motorcycle in the state without valid rider’s license.

His words: “No person shall operate a motorcycle without registration number; the two side mirrors of each motorcycle must be fixed on the motorbikes.

“ No motorcycle operator shall operate without wearing a standard helmet with full head protection. Also no motorcycle operator should carry more than one passenger at a time.

“Under aged children are banned from being carried on motorcycles. No motorcycle operator should operate beyond 8:00p.m in Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Ikeja and 1:00p.m in other areas of the state. Pregnant women, school children and women with children on their backs are totally banned from mounting Okada.”

The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Lagos, Mr. Jonas Agwu, urged motorbike riders to comply with the law and orders of the state.

He said: “Any violator will be dealt with seriously and their motorbikes seized!”

Speaking further with the Nigerian Compass, Agwu said: “We are trying to strengthen our working relationship to see that Lagos is safer. We are talking about safety here!

“An Okada rider should not carry more than one person. But most mothers would want to jump on a motorbike with a baby strapped to their backs, another on their lap. I tell you, I will give all the support to the Lagos State government!

“All the government wants to do is to keep mothers and their unborn babies alive. School children now have to wear crash helmets. Some mothers have argued with us that motorbike is the fastest means to take children to school, but our concern is how safe are the kids? Must we carry kids who are seven, eight and below such ages in an unsafe manner? I don’t think so!

“What the government is trying to do is Child Passenger Safety Campaign. We are looking at how kids and younger people are carried on bikes and vehicles. To me, I say kudos to Lagos State government! I once saw a woman with a baby who is about six months old on a motorbike. I stopped the lady and asked: ‘Madam, what’s the hurry that you have to carry this baby on this bike?

“I told her that the bike would just throw her off the road. We need to put a stop to all these things. We are talking about convenience and safety!”

Whatever Agwu may say, some commercial motorcyclists, who are beginning to feel the bite of the new law as it takes effect, apparently will not agree with him.

Okada Riders/Passengers Speak:
According to Ali Abdukareem, who, from Jigawa State, came to Lagos five years ago in search of greener pastures Okada work is a path to success.

He was already beginning to make it financially, when Fashola suddenly came up with his new law.

He said: “This new law is seriously affecting my Okada business, but I still have to thank Allah! This Okada business is not my only job. I work with a company in Ikeja, as a security guard. The major problem right now is riding home to Onigbongbo, Maryland, with my motorbike at night.

Police used to disturb me.

“Before Lagos State government came up with this law, I used to make N5000 per day, but now, I can’t even make N2000. I beg Fashola to learn to make laws that have the common people in mind. After all, we are all citizens of this country.”

Another rider, Pa Eke James revealed that he had been riding Okada for six years now.

James noted that when he started the business, Okada riders were very scarce on the roads.

“But now, Okada riders are everywhere! This is because there are no jobs to keep body and soul together. It’s because of this lack of job that many people took to riding Okada to make money.”

When the Nigerian Compass sought his view on whether what the state government was doing is good, he said: “My Bible made me to understand that you should not condemn authority. The only thing I want to beg the government is to provide people with better jobs before attempting to take away their sources of livelihood.”

Eme Sambo, who hail from Akwa Ibom State, said that when the law restricting them was promulgated, he had heard it from one of the radio stations.

He did not feel too happy with the new law because, “it affected me too much, especially in terms of money. Before the law was passed, I used to make between N2,500 to N3,000 on a daily basis but now, I barely make N1,500 to N1,000. The government should please help us to make a living within the state because we don’t have any other job to do for now.”

Austino Apeh, a native of Benue State, used to ply Maryland and Ikorodu routes and sometimes Allen Avenue, in Ikeja.

He used to smile home with N3000 everyday, but now, he hardly makes N1000.

Looking frustrated, he said: “Government has caged us. We don’t have access to any of the major roads as before. What most of us are making now, can hardly take us anywhere! Take me for instance, I buy fuel at Oando filling Station at Maryland; before I will ride over to the station, but now I can’t because I fear being arrested. To buy fuel, I have to cross over the highway with a gallon and come back to fill my tank.

“I’m appealing to the government to please allow us to start plying major roads again! The money we are making now is not enough to keep a family together. Better still, let government provide jobs for us.”

As commercial bike riders are crying, so also are pregnant women.

Odesanya Grace is also not happy with the law that prevents pregnant women from mounting motorbikes.

She said: “The law is not good! Come to think of it, how do they want us to move about, especially those of us that are not mobile?
“What about women whose husbands also do not have cars? If they wanted to pass such a law, they should have provided Marwa (tricycle) that will be shuttling the nooks and crannies of everywhere in Lagos! Since they started this law, Okada riders have not been carrying me in Ikeja. I have to walk from LASUTH to Ikeja.

“It is quite stressful! Even if it’s exercise, must it be everyday? Must we overstress ourselves everyday? Government should look for an alternative bike, like Marwa (tricycle).

“Although the way some Okada riders ride is not always safe, but we cannot do without them. There are some places where you cannot take buses to, which is why I say government should try and bend the law a bit and find another solution.”

But another pregnant woman, Ogunjobi Olusola, who gave the Lagos State government a pass mark for attempting to safe the lives of pregnant women in the state, also scolded this same government.

Olusola said: “I think the law is good for the safety of pregnant women. Let’s think about accident now; if a pregnant woman falls off an Okada, it may be fatal, compared to a woman who is not pregnant.

“But on the other hand, it is quite stressful for pregnant women. Some of us do not have cars to move about and cannot trek long distances. Government should try and consider us. They should have said Okada should not carry us to ride through the highway, instead of saying Okada people should not carry us at all!”

Joseph Benjamin, Nollywood's new leading man

If you were one of those ladies (like me!) that was wondering when a good looking, suave, smooth, articulate dreamboat of an actor was going to walk in and sweep you off your feet (in the movies, mind you! lol) then you need to wonder no more. Infact, I say you can finally exhale, ladies! This is introducing… Joseph Benjamin. The new generation of martinee idols just got a kick start from the fine looking, chocolatey brown brother. (Well, I was always partial to chocolate though I know its bad for you.. the waist line that is). Never one to miss out on a good thing, nollywooduncut.com caught up with the fine actor and this is what transpired. Enjoy!

NWU: Hi Joseph.

J.B: Hi Bola. How are you?

NWU: Fine thank you. First of all, where have you been all our lives? (general laughter)

J.B: I’ve been there, I’ve been there but not necessarily in Nollywood.

NWU: You do know you’re a dreamboat, don’t you? (general laughter). Can you tell us a bit about your professional background?

J.B: I first started as a child actor on NTA’s ‘Tales by Moonlight’.

NWU: No kidding!

J.B: Yes, I did several of those production, then I acted in ‘Super Story’, ‘Edge of Paradise’,168, and Mnet’s ‘Tinsel’.

NWU: Has anybody ever told you you look a lot like Desmond Elliot?

J.B: I get that a lot. I guess it’s the dark complexion.

NWU: Have you ever acted in a Nollywood movie?

J.B: Funny enough yes but that was a long time ago. It was called ‘Travels of Faith’. I was an extra. I also acted in Zeb Ejiro TV series but I have been doing more of modeling.

NWU: When can you say you had your big break? When the world took notice of you

J.B: It was definitely ‘The Project Fame’ gig.. I was a presenter on the MTN Project Fame show and it certainly opened doors for me, being aired all over Africa.

NWU: So what projects have you been doing film-wise?

J.B: I’ve shot a film with respected director, Mahmood Ali Balogun called ‘Tango with Me’. It was a big budget movie, shot on celluloid and all that. I acted with Genevieve.

NWU: I see… I hear you got to kiss her too… how was that? (laughter)

J.B: Great! She’s a very good kisser that I can tell you! (laughter)

NWU: What other films should we expect to see you in?

J.B: A film called ‘Spell Bound’ and ‘Bursting Loose’… both produced by Emem Isong.

NWU: Hmm.. you got called back a second time… you must have impressed her. You know she is fond of discovering new talent… Stella Damasus, Dakore Egbuson, Nse Ikpe-Etim are just a few names of people she is said to have discovered. Do you think you are the next anointed one?

J.B: Let’s wait and see… let the audience decide.

NWU: I hear you sing as well.

J.B: Yes I do.

NWU: What kind of music?

J.B: Soul… anything jazzy too.

NWU: You sing, you act … is there anything else you do that we should know about?

J.B: I do Voice Overs for commercials too.

NWU: I repeat, where have you been all our lives? (sigh)

J.B: (in deep, baritone voice over mode) I’ve been right here… and Im here to stay!

NWU: Yipee! (Do I hear an ‘Amen, somebody?)

Rosh Hashanah DAY !

Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה‎, literally "head of the year," Israeli: Hebrew pronunciation: [ˈʁoʃ haʃaˈna], Ashkenazic: ˈɾoʃ haʃːɔˈnɔh, Yiddish:[ˈrɔʃəˈʃɔnə]) is a Jewish holiday commonly referred to as the "Jewish New Year." It is observed on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar.[1] It is ordained in the Torah as "Zicaron Terua" ("a memorial with the blowing of horns"), in Leviticus 23:24. Rosh Hashanah is the first of the High Holidays or Yamim Noraim ("Days of Awe"), or Asseret Yemei Teshuva (Ten Days of Repentance) which are days specifically set aside to focus on repentance that conclude with the holiday of Yom Kippur.

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the civil year in the Hebrew calendar (one of four "new year" observances that define various legal "years" for different purposes as explained in the Mishnah and Talmud). It is the new year for people, animals, and legal contracts. The Mishnah also sets this day aside as the new year for calculating calendar years and sabbatical (shmita) and jubilee (yovel) years. Jews believe Rosh Hashanah represents either analogically or literally the creation of the World, or Universe. However, according to one view in the Talmud, that of R. Eleazar, Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of man, which entails that five days earlier, the 25 of Elul, was the first day of creation of the Universe.[2]

The Mishnah, the core text of Judaism's oral Torah, contains the first known reference to Rosh Hashanah as the "day of judgment." In the Talmud tractate on Rosh Hashanah it states that three books of account are opened on Rosh Hashanah, wherein the fate of the wicked, the righteous, and those of an intermediate class are recorded. The names of the righteous are immediately inscribed in the book of life, and they are sealed "to live." The middle class are allowed a respite of ten days, until Yom Kippur, to repent and become righteous; the wicked are "blotted out of the book of the living."[3]

For secular Jews

It would happen each fall around the Jewish new year. At the very time when renewal was in the autumn air, Arnold Barnett, an engineer from Moorestown, would go into a mild funk. His wife eventually figured it out: He was less than enamored with high holiday synagogue services.

"He simply wasn't engaged by what went on inside our Reform synagogue, or with the traditional approach to Judaism," said Ellen, 70. "I knew he was struggling. So sometimes, I would just go to services alone."

Then last year, the Barnetts saw a small notice in a local Jewish newspaper about a recently formed group in South Jersey. "We went to a meeting that was focused on Jewish history," Arnold, 71, recalls, "and that was something I could relate to. It was much more appealing."

And so the Barnetts will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, which begins Wednesday at sundown, by meeting Sunday with like-minded members of South Jersey Secular Jews - a group of people who may or may not believe in God, but do believe in caring about the world and one another, respecting and understanding Jewish history, and celebrating a culture that has meaning and emotional pull.

"The most important aspect of secularism is the survival and continuity of the Jewish people," said Paul Shane, a native New Yorker now living in Philadelphia and married to the daughter of Holocaust survivors.

Shane, 75, a member of the more established Philadelphia Secular Jewish Organization, believes humans are responsible for what happens on Earth. The here and now is central, and actions speak louder than words.

That philosophy resembles traditional Judaism. But secular Jews and traditional Jews part company when it comes to accepting religious dogma.

If you're secular, God is optional. (Traditional Judaism has "God at its heart. That's not an option," said Rabbi Ethan Franzel of Main Line Reform Temple Beth Elohim in Wynnewood.) Also, life-cycle events are handled individually - for instance, there are no set burial or wedding traditions in secular Judaism.

Of course secularism, in which one adheres to cultural norms rather than religious ones, is hardly new. During the Renaissance, from 1450 to 1600, and the Enlightenment in the 18th century, many Jews shed the God-oriented elements of their Jewishness, according to Shane, a professor of social policy at Rutgers University in Newark. That shedding also continued in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

What's different today is that a growing number of secular Jews are finding one another, forming groups, and practicing the social responsibility Judaism requires - minus the synagogue.

Rifke Feinstein, executive director of the national Congress of Secular Jewish Organizations, says there are approximately 2,000 affiliated secular Jews in the United States. But because seculars typically are unaffiliated, and therefore uncounted, estimates for the entire American secular population range from 8,000 to 40,000.

In the Philadelphia area, there are six such organizations for secular Jews - including the five-year-old South Jersey Secular Jews - all under the local umbrella cooperative venture called Kehilla for Secular Jews.

For many people, discovering that such an organization exists has been a relief.

" 'I thought I was the only one!' is what people often express when they discover that they are not alone in their secular relationship to their Jewishness," said Larry Angert, 59, a member of 11-year-old Shir Shalom: A Havurah for Secular Jews. "The Jewish tent is big, and there's room for all of us in it."

Some local secular groups, like Philadelphia's Sholom Aleichem Club, which started in 1954, and Philadelphia Workmen's Circle, founded nationally in 1900 to aid Jewish immigrant workers and to promote Yiddish, have graying memberships. Bob Kleiner, 85, of Elkins Park, a retired sociology professor at Temple University, and his wife, Frances, a teacher of Yiddish, both long active in the secular movement, lament that younger people are not actively involved in these historic groups.

But the formation of new groups, such as South Jersey Secular Jews, is evidence the movement still has traction.

Credit Naomi Scher, 64, of Cherry Hill, whose children attended the Jewish Children's Folkshul, another Kehilla group, which is a parent-run cooperative held at Springside School in Philadelphia. About 100 children receive their Jewish education, not in a traditional Hebrew school but in classes that nourish social justice and individual responsibility. Bar and bat mitzvah aspirants undertake personally meaningful projects that they ultimately share with the entire Folkshul community.

Although Scher formed relationships with parents of her children's classmates, commuting to Philadelphia became burdensome once her children graduated, and in 2005, the retired social worker decided to start a secular group closer to home.

What began as a gathering of eight to 10 people now regularly attracts 30, meeting monthly with speakers who address social and political concerns, Scher said.

Deborah Chaiken, 74, of Palmyra is delighted to have a group close to home. "In the formal Jewish community, I felt that I didn't really have a voice. Here, I know that I do."

Dues are $25 a year, and participants are asked to bring food for potluck dinners. Meetings are held on the second Sunday of the month at Unitarian Universalist Church in Cherry Hill..

South Jersey Secular Jews members Cary and Bilha Hillebrand of Cherry Hill call the group a welcome addition to the local landscape. For Bilha, 54, the philosophy of the group is more in keeping with that of her native Israel, where the majority of the population leads a more secular lifestyle.

"We are not in any way antireligious," says Cary, 60. "We hold the belief that we are responsible for what happens to ourselves and to the world. And to us, that's the essence of what religion is, and should be."

Mariam Abacha Preaches Forgiveness. Will Nigerians Forgive Her?

Ever since she lost her husband, Gen. Sani Abacha in 1998, Hajia Mariam Abacha has led a quiet life, unfazed by the avalanche of public criticisms of the tenure of the former military head of state, who presided over one of the most turbulent times in Nigeria’s political history.
After performing one of the unenviable tasks of evacuating her family out of the seat of power on the death of their bread winner, and the spirited battle she waged to save her son, Mohammed, from Obasanjo’s vengeful mission, the matriarch of the Abacha family has simply returned to Kano and settled to a quiet life after power.

Nigerians caught a glance of Hajia Mariam Abacha in May when she joined the other first ladies to condole Turai Yar’ Adua who faced a similar fate of taking her husband home, after his fruitless struggle to stay alive. Sunday, July 4, 2010 was therefore a moment to remember as Hajia Abacha and her family received a gathering of Christians from southern Kaduna, who live in Kano and came to offer their support as well as campaign for the success of Mohammed Abacha in the forth coming governorship contest.
The former first lady, who spoke in Hausa language, told the crowd that she was not surprised by the close relationship her family had maintained with the Christian community, adding that the Abacha family had over the years savoured the relationship of other Nigerians irrespective of the “ethno religious divide.” She said the head of her domestic staff is a Christian who enjoys freedom of worship in a Muslim family. She said apart from learning from Christians on her staff the teachings and values of the Christian faith, they are regarded as relations and members of the extended family. “You are my relations, the head of my domestic staff is a Christian from Kaduna, we allow freedom of worship and from him we have come to learn a lot on Christians values”, Mrs. Abacha stressed.

Mariam Abacha stated that his late husband’s belief in the unity of the country was evident in his appointment of Christian military officers as governors in the Muslim dominated northern states, and the appointment of Muslim officers as governors in the Christian populated south.
She told the gathering how General Abacha influenced the stay of execution of death sentence passed by a tribunal on the former Rivers State governor, Major General Zamani Lekwot and his kinsmen over the Zango Kataf crisis in 1992.
Seven members of the Kataf ethnic group, including Lekwot, had been sentenced to death for murder in connection with religious riots in northern Nigeria, leaving them with no right of appeal against the convictions.

Mariam Abacha explained that the gesture by the late general was propelled by his ‘humane spirit of forgiveness’..
The former first lady stated that the late head of state supported the unity of Nigeria especially the cordial relationship between the Christian Kataf and their Muslim brothers who had for years lived peacefully together.

‘We voted for Nigerian unity, one people one nation, these what my late spouse lived and died for, and we are promoting the legacy for its attendant benefits in a multicultural society’, Mrs. Abacha stressed.
In a speech earlier, leader of the southern Kaduna people resident in Kano, Mr. Ayuba Dangana, described the late General Abacha ‘as a friend and a relation’ whose administration elevated the people to the forefront of Kaduna politics.

The patient, who is known as Oscar, appeared at a press conference at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona where he underwent surgery. He spoke with difficulty just two months after regaining his voice, "I am very happy and I want to thank the surgeons and the donors especially the man who gave me the new tissues I received."

He added that he was looking forward to tasting his favorite lamb dish and going for a beer with friends..

In the last four months Oscar has had to overcome two rejections of his new face following a process that saw him receive a transplant that included skin, facial muscles, nose, upper jaw and cheekbones.

At the moment Oscar is still unable to eat solid food and has problems speaking as he is still unable to control the central area of his lips..

The surgeon who carried out the operation, Joan Pere Barret, explained that his faces does, however, have feeling and that although he will still need many hours of rehabilitation, he should be able to talk and eat normally in the future.

Oscar is also unable to fully close his eyes, but once again the surgeon assured that he will be able to do so in the future.

"He will do that soon. He has recovered the movement in his eyebrows and he is also able to smile. There are two Oscars: one before and one after the operation," conformed Dr Barret.

A North Carolina woman is alleging that "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino engaged in an affair with her husband, and says in court documents that the pair "recorded" their sexual encounters.
Paula Cook, who separated from her husband, Antwaun Cook, in June, filed the documents -- seeking child custody, alimony and other monetary support -- Wednesday in Mecklenburg County District Court.
The documents allege Antwaun Cook began the affair with Barrino, 26, in August 2009 after the pair met at a Charlotte-area T-Mobile store where Cook is employed.
Barrino -- the 2004 winner of the popular Fox show and an eight-time Grammy nominee -- treated Cook to a lavish lifestyle over the course of their affair, flying him to Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida; New York; Los Angeles, California; and Barbados, the documents allege.
The pair "have at times recorded their illicit sexual activity," according to the documents.
A month after Paula Cook separated from her husband, Barrino is alleged to have interrupted a phone conversation between the estranged couple, telling Cook, "He don't want you. Maybe the next time you get a husband you'll know how to keep him. That's why he is here with me," according to the documents.
Barrino has appeared publicly with a tattoo on her left shoulder reading "Cook," an apparent tribute to Antwaun Cook, who is said to have a similar tattoo in the same place on his shoulder, according to the documents.
The alleged affair was first reported in November by gossip magazines and websites.
Barrino and her record label Sony Music declined to comment on the documents Sunday.
Paula Cook says that as a result of the affair, her husband became more and more withdrawn from their marriage, attributing late nights and other absences to work, the documents say.
"As [Paula Cook] contemplated ways to save her marriage and family, [Antwaun Cook] and Ms. Barrino continued to enjoy their open and notorious relationship without her knowledge and/or consent," the documents say.
Paula Cook is seeking custody of her two children, ages 6 and 2, with Antwaun Cook, as well as child support, alimony, attorney's fees and ownership of the couple's former marital home..
