The issue of platform is something that is not very clear yet. Right now, it is the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), because it is the strongest opposition party in Ogun State. It is also a strong party in the South-West. I have consulted very widely. I have met the party leaders. I have met with my constituency and everybody was very happy and very supportive of my aspiration.

But interestingly, I got a feeler that a son of one of the party leaders has been pencilled down for the slot I am trying to contest for. An anointed candidate sort of. I even met with the father of the so called anointed candidate and he (the father) told me in many ways that he has been planning the race for his son for a very long time. He therefore told me to look for something else to contest for. He even suggested that, I might go for House of Assembly or wait for a political appointment or something like that. When I got back home to discuss with my family, they were not happy about the turn of events and they insisted I went into primaries with the anointed candidate and if at the end of the day the anointed candidate won, so be it..

But when we had a meeting in Abeokuta, they made it clear that there would not be any primary. They said they would just handpick candidates and submit same to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). And whoever is not picked should wait for an appointment or something like that.

And I think if that happens, I would move to a different party. And the different party I could move to is General Muhammadu Buhari’s party. The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). Over the years, like in 2003 and 2007, I was part of General Buhari’s campaign train. He is somebody I love, somebody I admire and somebody I campaigned for. It is not that the party is strong in the south west, but since I could not get a fair deal in the ACN, I decided to go back to General Buhari’s party.

Why in politics?

We have general problem in Nigeria from Maiduguri to Port-Harcourt, Sokoto to Lagos and Enugu to Jos. There is problem of unemployment, economic problems, and leadership problem as well as problem of infrastructure. I hold the view that by 2011, every capable hand, every competent hand who have love and passion for this country should come out to salvage the country together.

But when you don’t have internal democracy in the political parties, the problems will persist because those people who are not popular, who are not competent and who don’t have wide support among the populace would be at the helms of affairs. And sadly they would not be able to perform because people would not have confidence in them. And when you don’t understand democracy, you would not understand the language of democracy and how democracy works to bring about dividends of democracy.

How long have you been in politics?

Every human being is a politician. It is not when you start running for an elective position that will make you a politician. We have been playing politics at home. We play politics with our wives, we play with our children and we play politics with our parents too at home. We are all political animals.

But I became more active in politics when my father was running for an election. Though I was young then, I can say I was part of the campaign team. I was following them up and down during the campaigns, watching what they were doing. And when there was annulment and the struggle to actualise the mandate ensued, I was with my mum, going up and down with her to see what could be done.

I was part of the marches to protest. Even in America, I was part of the protesters at the Nigerian Embassy. I even lobbied some American government officials to put some kind of sanctions on Nigerian government to force it to de-annul the election and so on. I am in politics with my roles to that extent. So in 2003 and 2007, I became part of Buhari campaign team in the south west, I think with Chief Olu Falae as the Head of the Campaign team. You can see now that I have been in politics but just that I am now fully in it as a candidate.

Why N’Assembly as a starter?

I want to start from the Federal level because some of the problems facing the country always come from the Federal government. Take for instance, the problem of insecurity is from the centre. Take a look also at roads like Lagos-Ibadan, Benin-Ore roads. They are Federal roads. Other examples are budgets and exchange rates and other stuff that are handled at the centre. If we can solve the problem from the top, other warehouses would fall in line. So, going to the House of Representatives will give me the opportunity to assist in solving the country’s problems from the centre.

Are you trying to step into your late father’s shoes?

No, no, no. You see, every human being has his own destiny. You can’t say you want to copy some one else life exactly. You should be able to have your own destiny. I agree my parents played politics for the enthronement of democracy that would make everybody in Nigeria enjoy. They did till they sacrificed their lives for genuine democracy to have roots in Nigeria.

Although that has not happened, we should remember that every thing in life is a process. We are in the process of achieving that. You know you can not get to paradise overnight. You have to work towards it. Basically, if we don’t have democracy in its real sense now, we should remember we are no more being ruled by the military. It is an advancement. We are progressing on that road since we have held three elections in this country. We hope we wont go back to dictatorship in this country.

The pro democracy war my parents fought and died for was a collective fight along with a lot of people. And with the elections we have held in this country, it means we are progressing.

What is required now is that the little achievements we have so far recorded must be sustained and nurtured. We hope that the coming election would be better than what we had in 2007. We hope that the democratic process as well as performance of our elected officers across board would be better.

What is your take on professionals in politics?

If you check all the people that have moved forward, you will realise that they put their best forward to lead them. You don’t have people that have nothing doing leading them. They won’t put people who don’t understand why the country is in bad shape in office. Those who don’t know why Naira is devalued when our crude oil is selling at high rate. Or those who don’t know the impact of devalued Naira on the economy.

I remember in the 1980s when naira went one-to-one dollar, one to two and one to three dollar, people started shouting. When it went from one to five to one to ten, people started screaming. When it moved from one to ten to one dollar to N22, people were wondering what was happening!

When Obasanjo took over it was one dollar to 87. Before you knew what was happening it went to one dollar to N117. Later it went to one dollar to N135. Now, it is one dollar to N155! You can imagine what is going on here. We need those who can identify the problem and proffer solution to it.

Also you look into the high rate of the current expenditure when the budget is currently going to the current expenditure. Our crude oil is basically spent on paying salaries and not in developing infrastructure. These are some of the issues I am going to the National Assembly to address by the grace of God.

What has being Abiola’s son done for you?

Well, I don’t ask from human being any special favour because I am MKO Abiola’s son. My parents have done their work and have gone back to their God and I pray that God gives them their rewards. I don’t seek unnecessary favour like saying, Lekan Abiola wants to contest and so, anybody that wants to contest should get out of the way. That was why I told the party leaders at a meeting in Abeokuta that, there should be primaries where all the card carrying members would decide who they want to fly the ACN flags.

It is not because of me.

What about those who are not Abiola’s sons like sons of Okada man, sons of artisan and peasant farmers and others like them?

I have gone round to meet people and campaign. They were supportive of my aspiration and looking forward to having a good primary.

When my father was contesting in 1993, they did not say, oh, MKO Abiola is coming, let everybody get out of the way for him. He fought a good fight since he had the Kingibes and Atikus to content with. It was a big fight in Jos. My father did not get his ticket of the SDP on a platter of gold. So I don’t expect my own to be on a platter of gold also.

So, even, if I was the one so handpicked, I would not want it. However, it has not discourage me in any way. It does not worth it, big or small. I am sure, anything God says is mine, In Sha Allah, I will have it. If God says on May 29, 2011, I will be sworn-in as House of Representatives member, nobody can stop it. When one door closes Allah will open another bigger one. So, I can’t be discouraged. I hope In sha Allah, I will be successful.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Saturday arrested two members of a gang that abducted Dr. Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa, son of the late prime minister of Nigeria, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who was kidnapped on Friday night at the business premises of his wife.

Tafawa-Balewa had gone to visit his wife in the Federal Capital Territory, when two men accosted him and took him away at gunpoint to a hideout in Mpampe area of the city.

He was taken to a hilly area where he managed to escape from his kidnappers. The gang was said to have demanded a N100m ransom from his family.

Tafawa-Balewa’s family and friends were already making arrangements to pay the sum to secure his release when he escaped from his kidnappers.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, the FCT Police Commissioner, John Haruna, explained that a suspected member of the gang, Adamu Adamu, who was arrested when he came to collect the ransom, led the police to their hideout where another suspect was apprehended.

He suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Two other suspects are being sought, he added.

Tafawa-Balewa stated that the gang took him away in a Honda car and seized his wallet and wristwatch. The car was recovered in Minna, Niger State where it was taken to after the operation.

Speaking with newsmen, Tafawa-Balewa said, “It was raining when they took me away, so I had no idea where they took me to. But I know that we ended up on a mountain. But when I got an opportunity to escape, I took it.

When I came out, I saw policemen searching everywhere, I didn’t know they were looking for me.”

Mum brings baby back to life.

Miracle mum brings premature baby son back to life with two hours of loving cuddles after doctors pronounce him dead.
An Australian mother has told how her touch brought her 'dead' baby back to life.

Doctors gave tiny Jamie Ogg no chance of survival when he was born prematurely at 27 weeks weighing just 2lb.

His twin sister Emily had survived but after battling for 20 minutes to get him to breathe Jamie was declared dead.

He was then handed to his mother Kate so she and her partner David could grieve and say their goodbyes. But after two hours of being spoken to, touched cuddled and held by his mother he miraculously began showing signs of life.

Then after being given breast milk on his mother's finger, he began breathing regularly.

Kate, who gave birth after a three-hour labour in March, has spoken of how vital 'skin-on-skin' care can be for a sick baby, or 'kangaroo touch' as it is known in Australia. 'Skin-on-skin' care is when the child is laid on the mother.

Normally, premature babies are sent to intensive care and she was only given her son to hold because he was thought to have died.

Telling how the drama unfolded at a hospital in Sydney, she said: 'The doctor asked me after the birth had we chosen a name for our son.

'I said, "Jamie", and he turned around with my son already wrapped up and said, "We've lost Jamie, he didn't make it, sorry."

'It was the worse feeling I've ever felt. I unwrapped Jamie from his blanket.

'He was very limp. His little arms and legs were just falling down away from his body.I took my gown off and arranged him on my chest with his head over my arm and just held him.

'He started gasping more and more regularly. I thought, "Oh my God, what's going on?" A short time later he opened his eyes. It was a miracle'

'He wasn't moving at all and we just started talking to him. We told him what his name was and that he had a sister.

'We told him the things we wanted to do with him throughout his life.'

Jamie occasionally gasped for air, which doctors said was a reflex action.

She added: 'After just five minutes I felt him move as if he were startled, then he started gasping more and more regularly.

'I thought, "Oh my God, what's going on?" A short time later he opened his eyes. It was a miracle.

'I told my mum, who was there, that he was still alive. Then he held out his hand and grabbed my finger.

'He opened his eyes and moved his head from side to side.'She said they passed on a message to their doctor insisting Jamie was showing signs of life, but he sent back a midwife with the reply that they were just natural reflexes and that there was no possible way he could still be alive.

Kate then said to her husband, 'What if he lives?'

She added: 'I was like, "We could be the luckiest parents in the world".

'I gave Jamie some breast milk on my finger, he took it and started regular breathing.

'At that point the doctor came back. He got a stethoscope, listened to Jamie's chest and just kept shaking his head.

'He said, "I don't believe it, I don't believe it".'

David, speaking to the Australian TV show Today Tonight, said: 'Luckily, I've got a very strong, very smart wife.

'She instinctively did what she did. If she hadn't have done that, then Jamie probably wouldn't be here.'

Tension has enveloped the sleepy village of Akabor, Ahiara in Ahiazu Local Government Area of Imo State after 45-year-old Bernard Anyanwu beheaded his only son, Chikaodi, in a forest on Wednesday.

The incident, a reminiscent of the infamous “Otokoto” saga of Owerri, has sparked off fear and apprehension as some Akabor residents have started fleeing home for fear of being arrested.

The Otokoko saga emerged from the killing of one master Ikechukwu Okonkwo for rituals, which triggered a chain of violent protests in Owerri in 1996. Indigenes of Owerri, particularly the youths, women and children, took to the streets en masse to burn and destroy property believed to belong to suspected ritual killers who are today referred to as the Otokoto Seven. Photo: Headhunters in police net inset one of their victims

The fearful Otokoto drama reached its peak in 1997, when about six men were publicly executed by firing squad over alleged armed robbery charges and ritual killings. Those executed were: Obidiozor Duru, Chidi Onuoha and Amanze Onuoha (brothers); Collins Ndulaka, Sydney Onyechege and Mac Donald Ebere. Former Military Governor of Imo State, Colonel Tanko Zubairu (rtd), quickly signed their death warrants in an effort to rid the state of the rising cases of suspected ritual killings.

In the latest case, police sources said the wife of the suspect, Charity, has already made a statement at the Ahiazu Police Station and that the suspect, a motor mechanic, is now being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri, the state capital.

An eyewitness account narrated that Anyanwu had told the wife that he wanted their only son, aged 13, to accompany him to the nkporo (local name for the village’s forest) near a river to fetch some woods for the repair of their dilapidated building.

But the suspect later returned from the forest allegedly carrying a cellophane bag containing human flesh with blood dripping down.

Confronted by an insane man on arrival to the village, the suspect was said to have rebuffed the insane man and proceeded home where, with the combined efforts of the insane man and another drunkard, the villagers were alerted .

The suspect was said to have overpowered those that initially came to arrest him on discovery of what the two men were raising alarm for. He was however arrested on Thursday, 24 hours after the incident by the police and Akabor vigilante group.

A native of the town who sought anonymity said Anyanwu once suffered from insanity and that a similar incident occurred in the same family two years ago .

Meanwhile, a middle aged man was electrocuted at Umuebejileme Obohia also in Ahiazu LGA as he attempted to allegedly illegally connect electricity in the house of his relation in the same village.

Business Manager of PHCN, Jude Oguadinma, lamented that people of the area often connect electricity to their homes without involving PHCH officials, adding that the company has lost a lot of revenue through the heinous act.

A Geneva police court on Friday sentenced Abba Abacha, son of the former Nigerian dictator Sani Abacha, to a suspended two-year jail term for participating in a criminal organization.

The court ruled that Abacha could not properly account for the hundreds of millions of francs he kept in 20 bank accounts under different names.

Last fall, an investigating judge orderd the confiscation of 350 million dollars seized by authorities from banks in the Bahamas and Luxembourg.

Abacha’s father is believed to have absconded with three billion francs from Nigerian government coffers between 1993 and 1999, when he died.

Much of the money ended up in Swiss bank accounts. Most of the 870 million francs frozen by government authorities in Switzerland has already been returned to the Nigerian government.

The case against Abacha’s son began in 1999 at the request of the Nigerian government.

He has already spent 561 days in preventive custody..

how a man abducted his son, alerted a family member and demanded a ransom from his extended family

A 45-year-old drummaker, Tanimowo Hunge, has been paraded by policemen from the Ogun

State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for allegedly abducting his 16-year-old son, John, and demanding N100,000 as ransom.

Hunge, a native of Maun, Ipokia Local Government, was paraded alongside some robbery and murder suspects by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Daura, in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Hunge, who wept profusely, blamed the devil for the crime. According to the CP, the suspect tricked his son who lives in Lagos with his brother in-law, Joseph Dosa, to come home. His father later abducted him and got in touch with Dosa that John had been kidnapped and the abductors demanded N100,000 ransom.

Dosa later told reporters that efforts to get the alleged abductors' telephone number from the boy's father proved abortive as he was said to have claimed that the abductors warned him not to release the telephone number to any other person.

The CP added, "When information go the police, they phoned the kidnappers and the money was made available by the police in order to attract the suspect. As the suspect surfaced for the collection of the money, he was arrested. Incidentally, the suspect is the biological father of the victim.

"We even tried to negotiate the ransom to N50,000 but the father refused, saying the kidnappers had refused any form of negotiation."

Amidst continuous sobs, Hunge, who confessed to the crime, claiming that tree felling had robbed him of the materials with which to make drums.

"It was the devil. I used to have money. It was hardship that pushed

me to this level and I only pray that God will save me from this problem," he lamented.

Also, another suspect, Abdullahi Adekunle, was paraded for allegedly killing one Musibau Olopade, who was caught having sex with his (Adekunle's wife) on their matrimonial bed.

Daura said Adekunle, a block moulder in Ilogbo Ota, stabbed Olopade in the back after he caught his wife, Funmilayo, and the young man having sex on their (Adekunles) matrimonial bed. A sober Adekunle explained that though he stabbed the late Olopade, who was unmarried, with the knife he used during the Eid-el-Kabir (Ileya), he did not know that the deceased would die.

The wife who had had a stillbirth for the suspect claimed that the deceased raped her. Funmilayo said, "I was expecting my husband in the morning; so, when he (Olopade) knocked, I thought it was my husband. I opened the door while I had only wrapper on. He pushed me to the bed and started. When my husband was knocking, he said I shouldn't open the door that it was not my husband. When my husband forced the door opened and saw him; they started fighting and I ran out of the building. As he (late Olopade) was trying to escape, my husband stabbed him in the back."

My son must not die -Yar'Adua's mother *Tells Turai to release her son *To meet with OBJ, Gowon

FOLLOWING the refusal of the First Lady, Hajia Turai Yar'Adua, to allow top politicians, including the relatives of the ailing President Umaru Yar'Adua to see her husband, who was secretly brought into the country after spending three months in a Saudi Arabian hospital, the mother of the president, Hajia Dada

Unusual disrespect to lead her husband in the religion they both practice, not to mention President of a nation

advertisement

Yar'Adua, has called on eminent Nigerians to prevail on Hajia Turai to release her son to her.

Similarly, the president's mother has vowed to hold her daughter in-law responsible if anything unwholesome happens to her son.

A source close to the family in Katsina disclosed that the president's mother has started making frantic efforts to meet with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, as well as other eminent Nigerians, who were close to President Yar'Adua's late brother, General Sheu Musa Yar'Adua, to help appeal to the first lady to drop her recalcitrant attitude, and bring home the ailing Nigerian leader.

According to the source, Turai had locked the door of Aso Rock against the president's mother, thus preventing her from seeing her son. He added that the woman, who had become troubled since her son took ill, had sent emissaries to Ota Farm to meet Chief Obasanjo in order to make him see her plight and prevail on the first lady to change her mind.

The woman, according to the source, revealed that the health status of president Yar'Adua had always been a source of worry to her, noting that the president had been battling with health challenges, as he was afflicted with a certain skin disease at birth, adding that the president's illness, which has been given much media attention in recent times, could be cured locally.

She said Turai's hard stance on access to her husband had made things worse, as President Yar'Adua's health condition had suffered in the process.

The source said that President Yar'Adua's mother did not want her son disgraced from office, noting that it was better for him to die and be given full presidential honours, than being disgraced out of office.

It will be recalled that the president's mother, in the wake of the president's latest sickness, after he was flown to Saudi Arabia, had urged the first lady to leave her son alone and allow him to resign from office on the grounds of his ill health.

Fela's "son" Dede mabiaku breaks his silence

DedeSpeaks against musicians and hunger strikeDede Mabiaku is the reporter’s delight any day. And just like his late mentor and Afro beat legend, Fela Anikulapo- Kuti, his word leaves a delightful echo in the ear.Twelve years after the Fela, otherwise known as Abami Eda, (The man with death in his pouch) passed on, the Warri, Delta State born musician is yet to release his debut album. He tells our Entertainment Editor, Ogbonna Amadi why. He also shares his experience as a married man and why he will never marry again. These and more interesting bits about Dede we have packaged for your weekend delight. Enjoy. It’s been long I saw you in a show. Why would I stop playing? I wouldn’t. That I was just out of Nigeria for a while didn’t mean I stopped playing. But you’ve not been playing for long. With my band, yes. It’s been long. But like I said, I was away. I had been living in Ghana, not in Nigeria. So, I put the band on break. What were you doing in Ghana?Actually, I went there for arts related business in music. I’m into different things in the arts world. Music alone has its own time. We must know that people learn different things in life as they progress. Well, I was in Ghana. And it was another education for me, understanding what production was all about.Learning musical production?Yes, musical production. I was into studio technology and the rest of them and then I was also performing. But in all, I went to Ghana to catch some rest. I needed it.You were learning production in Ghana. Aren’t there good studios in Nigeria? No, I said there are good studios. The scene in Ghana was very convenient for me to study, to learn what I wanted to learn. There was much to learn and the shows I had in Ghana with my band were different. I recorded in different places.I recorded in Ghana in 2000, in 1998 first, as a matter of fact. I recorded with a friend of mine in 2002. I recorded in Nigeria also. So, I understand the patience level of the Ghanian studio. It is different from the patience level of the Nigerian studio. The business schedule of the Ghanian studio is different from that of the Nigerian studio. I found my better option in Ghana.Afrobeat. Which country is better- Ghana or Nigeria?Nigeria, because that’s the source. Ghana has an understanding of Afrobeat from their direct contact with Fela when he went to Ghana. And so they are in love with Afro-beat based on that. But not as much as Nigerians.Well, you physically dress to adapt to your style of music, though I wouldn’t want to call it Afro-beat anymore.Yeah, Afro-beat is a serious education of comparative high life. Are we looking at the Oni dodo and the Koola Lobito level of those days? No, I thought back to one time when Fela used to gist with me. He would say, ‘Dede, look there is one thing I want you to do. Go and listen to those high life days of old…. When you listen to them, then you will begin to understand the ingredients of a true African music. You must go back and start to listen to these things. And then go and start listening to reggae…rhythm and blues. You need to educate yourself and improve based on the knowledge you gain. After a few years, I decided to study properly. The years of sacrifice, moving from one country to another playing music. One would have expected that you’ve learnt enough to tell Nigeria, this is what I learnt from the master.I think you’re missing the point because Nigerians are already knowing and feeling what I learnt from the master. It’s simply wrong if you say I have not done anything within these periods. Then, that’s not putting it in the right context. As far as music is concerned, nobody can say I’m not delivering the way I need to.Then, why haven’t you produced an album? If you’re talking about releasing an album, that’s a different cup of tea, and I have my reasons for not wanting to do that yet. This is because I discovered certain things we have to do.What were those things? It got to a stage where some powers said that we cannot even play music; that we should just step away from it; we should not even attempt it. I didn’t think that was the case. I thought very strongly that if the source had to be in existence and in these present time of ours, then without the foundation, we are nothing.I had to make sure that these things that we are doing will gain more essence. So I sacrificed all to make sure that the original unit that is Fela’s Egypt 80 band was standing firm.Secondly, I had to make sure also that the top of that unit stands solid and is able to carry on where it needs to carry on. So ultimately, until that was done, then I can start doing the remaining things that I need to do.And what were the remaining things that you needed to do?You know them now, at least by now you see say the band don strong. I remember many years back, we brought the whole band to sit here and start to structure how Fela used to do his music itself. Seun was in school, in Liverpool then, and it was me with the team. They (Egypt 80 band) will give you the story and details of what happened. I left every thing undone, sacrificed for the band because it was important. I had to do all these because I knew Seun had a lot to offer because he is the last of the origin.Remember Fela handed him over to me. Today, they are doing very well all over the world and I’m happy and proud. But somebody at that time said the reason you didn’t want to release an album was because you were scared of being judged?I know that many years ago, you heard some songs from my album The green and white one. That was part of what we were pushing forward at that time. The reason why we stopped that was because we knew within ourselves that it had to be stopped. But for me, spiritually, that happened because it had to stop for me to concentrate on what I needed to do ultimately because if I had taken my focus from what was happening with the band, it wouldn’t have been good for all of us.Can you be more specific. Now that you are back inNigeria, what are we expecting from Dede?We are starting performances fully now. Thank God it’s home first and we are going to Warri. This is your first show in how many years in Nigeria? We did a show in December in Calabar for the carnival. It was the jazz fiesta. It featured Hugh Masakela, Asha and my band. The music was well taken in Calabar. But after that performance, I sent the band on break pending my return to Nigeria fully. I am happy they understood and also happy the guys stood by me. They know there is something to offer. That’s why we are back on track.Let’s talk about your personal life. Someone said the reason you went to Ghana was because of a woman. Before I met the woman I married, I had been going to Ghana. I have been going to Ghana since 1995. Usually, I’d spend about two weeks, just to rest and come back so that they don’t take you on a wrong drive. In later years (2000) when I went to Ghana, I stayed for three months. So it’s not true that a woman made me settle in Ghana. I stayed there myself intentionally and when I went back in 2002, I stayed for four months. But you didn’t meet her in your first few years in Ghana.I met her when I turned 40. In my life, I had seen it all and I felt there was nothing left but to get married. Besides, I liked her. So, I thought I should just get married, after all it’s not a crime. I went into it to feel and experience what marriage was all about.I have heard that your ex- girl, Bimbo is back. No, Bimbo and I are just friends and we remained friends, even when I got married. So, what is between us today is just purely friendship, like a brother and sister thing. It is very deep and nothing can change that. But sometimes, I ask myself why real friends can’t get married and still remain friends? The point is that the moment you get married, it is a different scene entirely. The ownership clause comes in and that becomes the major problem because she wants to own her own sector and the man wants to dominant his domain. And when that happens, you must compromise. But when it’s not working the right way, it’s stupid to continue to break your head. It is better you remain friends and have peace of mind. Now that you have tested marriage, would you like to test it again? No, I won’t get married again. I don’t need it. I have children. How would your dad feel knowing that his first son is not married? You are getting the whole picture wrong. Marriage is different from companionship.Do you have sisters and brothers?Plenty. You can’t even count. My family members are calm and very reserved. They don’t like publicity. But I am different for I am the only one in the eye of the public. I am very happy with the profession I chose.Recently, some group of persons gathered and said they were embarking on hunger strike to protest against piracy. What’s your take on this? That time when Fela was talking about piracy, he did it alone without anybody. Other musicians didn’t support him. Some went behind his back and paid radio stations to play their music. And Fela at that point was saying the reverse should be the case, they should pay the musicians.Fela was exposed to the people abroad. He was receiving royalty from those units and he believed that the same system should start to function here in Nigeria. Because nobody supported his campaign, today we are going back to the same old story.Right now, I think we are going about it the wrong way. Let’s be realistic. When we talk of piracy, I ask, ‘ have we been able to identify how piracy came in the first place?’ We need to identify them because there was a hollow in the music industry. The market unit collapsed, the artiste and repertoire unit collapsed, the management of artiste themselves collapsed, the recording company, many of them folded up. So, ultimately what happened was that it became an all comers affair. These people you call pirates, are they not human beings? Since dem no be spirits, they have addresses where they operate from. And the people know who sell for them. Instead of fighting these people, get the data base of all of them, identify their marketing units, legitimize them and lecture them on what they stand to gain if they become the real marketing outlets. But if you are not interested in following the part of peace and you want to kill their units directly, then go directly and destroy their companies.Blow them up but that’s not what you want to do. The issue of piracy started here because there was no structures on ground. Some people had to do something to keep the music industry breathing. So, what you need to do now is make them understand what it would take for them to be credible and legitimate. So, when are we expecting your new album? To pin a date on it now won’t be proper. There is a team working on a package locally and internationally and that team is what I am working with now. I am going by what they have laid down. They want to do proper management structuring and I’m ready for them. They were here recently and they came in from Paris. We spent time together with the band and they were very happy with what they saw on ground. We’ve started the ball rolling. So, let’s give Dede the support now because he is back on stage live. Let’s have fun men.

Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of the former Nigeria Head of State, late General Sani Abacha, is set to join one of the existing political parties in the country, a declaration that would symbolically mark the beginning of the family’s quest to return public life. The Abachas had abruptly been cut off the national leadership scene when their patriarch, Gen. Abacha, suddenly died some 11 years ago, while still serving as the Military Head of State. Mohammed Abacha before we forget In 1999, Mohammed Abacha was arrested and charged with the murder of Kudirat Abiola (wife of MKO Abiola) and the attempted murder of Alex Ibru (head of Guardian Newspaper - an opposition newspaper). In 2002 same moHommed Abacha was ultimately acquitted and released by President Olusegun Obasanjo. a supposed secret admirer of the abacha Family from the long standing Military relationship with Abacha the elder This was after an agreement was reached between the government and the Abacha family that they would hand over the balance of funds embezzled during his father's rule, Which obviously The balance of that HUGE amount of Stolen funds Mohammed wants to use As the Comeback Kid of A DESPOT ! The Audacity of the Plan shows he his his fathers Son .Decisively Stupid and Ruthless. Musa Umar Kazaure of The Weekly Trust said that the move was politically motivated.[3] The prison did not immediately release Mohammed Abacha after Obasanjo acquitted him. ON April 18, 2005 Justice Amina Adamu Augie of the Court of Appeal in Abuja said that Mohammed Abacha would undergo a trial at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory due to offenses related to the stealing of public funds. Mohammed Abacha filed an appeal to fight the judgment.[4] As of 2008 he is married with two children, a son named after his father and a daughter. ( SO BE CERTAIN HE LOVES HIS FATHER LIKE ANY GOOD SON BUT IS HE A GOOD PERSON OR GOING TO BE A GOOD LEADER ?) This is the question mark The people in KANO and the REST of Nigeria have to Answer advertisement click for NollyWood videos on utube4naija A very credible source told 9jabook sources in Kano that Alhaji Mohammed Abacha, when he eventually steps out into the political fray in the days ahead, is most likely going to pitch his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adding that so far, discussions between him and some of the stakeholders of the party, both in Kano State and in Abuja, have reached an advanced stage. It is speculated that the younger Abacha, upon his admission into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would immediately set his eyes on the Kano State Government House, hoping to emerge as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP and eventually, the governor of the state by 2011. Incidentally, the Abacha Abachas are believed to have had a long-standing romance with the All Nigerian Peoples Party Party (ANPP), especially in Kano, where the party, at some stage, even road on the seeming popularity of the Abachas with the common Kano folks. It is still not clear what brought about the u-turn to PDP. A new power equation At the helm of the coordination of the highly guarded proposal is Alhaji Umar Gano Bayero (not directly related to the emirate). Alhaji Bayero, a former gubernatorial candidate of the Action Congress in the 2007 polls is a close confidant of the family and one of the associates of the former governor of the old Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi. His central role in the entire project has since led to the belief that, should the proposal work out as projected, Alhaji Abacha might not be joining the Kwankwaso’s faction of the party, which sources told the 9jabook is frightened by the prospect of this new factor to the political balance of the party in the state and yet hopeful, the young man might join the faction in the end. Already, a proposal for the formation of an eight- man Central Working Committee that would manage this ambition is in the offing. Sources said the names of the members of the committee were carefully selected to represent the seriousness of the new deal, adding however that their initial meeting, which should have taken place by now, was placed on suspension pending the fresh registration exercise of the party in the state which is billed for next week. It was also gathered that the meeting was caused to slow down with a view to allowing the CWC have a glimpse of the nature of the party’s congresses and the shape of the incoming executive of the state. “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) offers the young Abacha a number of benefits, including the fact that it is the party in government at the national level and a party that stands an average chance to win the next gubernatorial election in the state, if the right candidate and the right leadership is put to work,” said the source. The source opined that a character from the Abacha’s family would invariably excite the top notchers of the PDP in the country, arguing that Alhaji Mohammed Abacha fits into the kind of personality the party and those sympathetic to the interest of president Yar Adua need to balance the power equation in the party in the state. 2011 guber in the mix In reference to the 2011 battle in the state and for the survival of the president, the source added: “You see Alhaji Mohammed is very, very rich. PDP and indeed, Yar’Adua would be interested in such a person who can spend his own money for the sake of the party. This is typical of the Yar’Adua we now know, that is, getting others to do his work for him while staying aloof and watching from a distance” A number of investigations carried out by the 9jabook in Kano State recently confirmed that the relationship between the family of the former head of state and the incumbent President, Alhaji Umar Yar Adua, has been on the upward swing since the president was sworn into power, some two years ago. It was discovered that the pressure mounted on several fronts against the Abachas by the previous administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has been gradually relaxed for the family, if not totally suspended. Notably among them is the easing on the tight security around the matron of the family, Hajia Mariam Abacha, who, it was gathered, has since had an ease in the restrictions placed on her movement. A security source told the 9jabook that she can now travel to any part of the world so long as she can get their visa. This new development is a sharp contrast from the restricted nature of her freedom during the eight-year rule of the past administration. It is also on record that the former First Lady was one of the very first few jubilant Nigerians to rush to the Yar’Aduas in Kastina to celebrate their son’s election as the president of the country and on that occasion, she was well received by the then incoming First Lady, Hajia Turia Yar’Adua. A burning ambition 9jabook also was gathered from another competent source that this is definitely not the first time that Alhaji Mohammed Abacha had plotted to join the politics of the state, adding that much as he was not in a hurry to stage a come back given the hostile climate against his family under Obasanjo, he had always kept an eye on the political development of the state, waiting for the right time to strike. The source, a long time relation of the Abachas, recalled that the last time Mohammed had tried his hand on this long nurtured pet project, was some two and a half years ago, when the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) had tried to wreck the ambition of some serving governors, including the second term ambition of the governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau. The source stated emphatically that the Abacha son, sensing that the coast was clear, immediately flew to the Eastern part of the country to try to persuade the Chairman of the All Nigerian Peoples Party, Chief Edwin Umezeoke, to consider him for the gubernatorial ticket of the party in state in the event the incumbent governor was barred by the authorities. He observed that the move suffered a major set back when a court ruled against the barring of the governors by the EFCC. On the chances of the young man in a complex political terrain like Kano State, the source noted that it is one thing to want to declare oneself for political service and another game all together when one is inside the political fray with all its ups and downs. He added that for now, many people are urging on Mohammed Abacha to join politics and based on this, it seems he is a popular choice of the people. He, however, expressed pains that some of these persons singing his praise worthiness are not singing it out of genuine concerns but are simply out to milk his purse. DO YOU WANT AN ABACHA BACK IN POWER IN KANO ? obviosuly most kano people do He stated that in the political equation of Kano state, the family of the Abachas, no doubt, enjoy some form of love and respect, despite their demonization by a section of the media in the country, but he feared that Mohammed Abacha might be his own undoing, given that he is seen as a character that does not mingle with others outside his class of select friends, adding that he rarely steps out to visit people when they are bereaved and is hardly available for other kinds of social engagements in the community. This character trait, he stated, means a lot to the people of the north and Muslims generally. Efforts to reach out Alhaji Mohammed Abacha for comment were unsuccessful. Babangidas ,Obasanjo,, Over to your Sons & Daughters SOON ALL THE GOVERNORS OF NIGERIA WILL BE THE SONS OF FORMER PRESIDENTS AND THEN ALL WE NEED IS THEIR KING ? Dan Usman writes from Kano City
