I need to start by saying I am really not into politics, So please do not be surprised when you ask me basic questions that you think every citizen should know and my response would be erm erm erm erm erm, till i finally give up lol!

My country Nigeria aka Giants of Africa in west Africa is going through elections at the moment to choose a leader for the country, we have seen many leaders go and come, some make positive changes while some make negative changes, but let’s try and forget about the past and press forward.

Every Nigerian is looking for a change, but how do we recognize positive change? The elections will be taking place sometime in April 2011 and I am aware that lives have been lost because of the candidates chosen for the election; it has obviously because an issue of tribe to some, instead of making a choice of based on a good leader with the right qualities. We were reading the book of Jonah recently and Nigeria came to mind as i saw the qualities of a good leader in the king of Nineveh, a good leader is not perfect, but fights for perfection. A good leader forgets the past and presses forward to start on a CLEAN slate..

Although saying this i do not think it's ONLY a leaders responsibility to push a country forward, the followers have a role to play. There is a saying that when the head is rotten it affects the other part of the body. I pray we will not elect a leader that would affect the country negatively IJN

I pray as leaders and followers we pick a thing or two from chapter 3 of the book of Jonah.

Qualities of a good Leader

I will give a brief introduction about the story of Nineveh in the previous chapters, the city of Nineveh was about to be destroyed by God because of their sins, so God sent His servant Jonah to pass this message to them, that they would be destroyed in 40days because of their wickedness, well after some heavy nudges from God lol! Jonah finally delivers the message to the people of Nineveh, note that the people of Nineveh did not know right from wrong, but take note of the qualities that the king of Nineveh possessed in this short chapter.

Humility: The Word says that the Lord will humble those that exalt themselves and exalt those that are humble. Verse 6 of that chapter says "When the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying, he stepped down from his throne and took off his royal robes" , Do you know what it is for a king to step down from his throne? this king acknowledged the King of all kings, Some leaders set themselves on high horses and believe they cannot be brought down because of the wealth they possess, if any leader needs a lesson on humility the best teacher i can think of is king Nebuchaddnezzar in the book of Daniel, so when choosing a leader this is one of the qualities that should be found in his or her.

Does not procrastinate: A good is a man/woman takes actions immediately on things that are important, he finds it hard to procrastinate, i say this with sadness in my heart, that this is one thing that has been a down fall with previous leaders in that country, procrastinating of changes that would move the country forward, but as I said earlier we should look forward to the change that is about to take place. Verse 6 of that same chapter shows us the immediate action of the king of Nineveh immediately he heard Jonah's message, he stepped down from his throne, removed his robe and sent a decrees to the city, there was no slacking on his part, if he took his time the city could be destroyed.

Wisdom: Proverbs 15:5 says “Only a fool despises a parent's discipline; who ever learns from correction is wise”. We can tell that the king of Nineveh was wise because of the decisions he made after he heard the message from God, please understand that it did not start well, but he decided to take the message from Jonah . His decree to the people came with wisdom verse 7 - 9 tells us that the king and his nobles sent a decree throughout the whole city, for the people to fast , pray and turn from their evil ways...... Hmmmm wisdom is much better than gold.

Positive: A good leader remains positive even in the midst of adversity, verse 9 says “Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will change His mind and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us" even though a message had been passed the king remained positive, when a leader is positive his followers recognise this and follow suit.

Fear of God: Proverbs 1:7 says the Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, a leader that does not fear God will not have compassion for his followers. He will believe that he does not answer to anybody so he can do as he pleases, you will know a leader that fears God by the decision him/her makes. This quality to me is the most important out of all the qualities, why do I say this?  if one can fear God genuinely the remaining qualities of a leader will fall into place. Choose right people.

Followers: We are all leaders one way or the other, be it in our homes, offices, place of worship etc, but trust me one cannot be a good leader if they find it hard to be a good follower. This is not a matter of pointing fingers at the leaders every time, look at yourself in the mirror first, ask yourself what changes you are making, as followers we should support our leader and not frustrate him/her with our ways. The people of Nineveh are a good example of good followers; they OBEYED their king by observing the fast, praying and turning from their evil ways. We complain every time how the leaders do not hear the complaints of the people, but as follower do we listen and obey the laws/decrees set by the leaders. People let the CHANGE start from you.

The OUTCOME

So what was the outcome after the decisions made by the king and the followers, verse 10 says " When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their own evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened" People the decisions we make as leaders and followers can TURN THINGS AROUND.

2nd Chronicles 7 v 14 says “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and RESTORE their land"

Let’s start on a clean slate and make right decisions, so we can be restored.

I give God the glory for this note, Father I pray your WILL be done in the election, you see deeper than we can see, choose a leader for us Father, let it be a man after your own heart....... and all the children of God say a resounding Amen J

Have a lovely weekend people

Who owns this huge money? Ten million American dollars and one million Euros, equivalents of Nigeria’s N1.7 billion? In cash? And being moved out of Nigeria by four nondescript persons with no social or business pedigree? Could this huge sum be a proceed of money laundering by some politicians or funds being funnelled to some sources for terrorist activities? These are questions that officials of the State Security Services (SSS) are currently seeking answers to. Some SSS officials arrested the four men, believed to be of Northern origin, while they were attempting to board a flight to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The money was kept in sacks, commonly called Ghana Must Go bags. When the foursome could not explain how they came about the money and the purpose for which it was meant, the SSS officers promptly placed them on arrest and handed them over to officers of the Police Command at the Airport. The Inspector General, Mr. Hafiz Ringim yesterday ordered a Commissioner of Police to lead investigation into the money-cache. The chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs Farida Waziri has also sent a team of her officials to get to the root of thge matter, which is within the purview of her organisation, since it borders on suspicion of money laundering and terrorism fund. A source said that the four men, who looked “ordinary”, could not explain what they were doing with such huge sums of money, even as they claimed to be on their way to the United Arab Emirates. It was further gathered that when the money was brought out from the bags and counted, the total sum was about $10m (N1.5b) and one million Euros about N205m. Said a source: “You know that there has been serious suspicion that some politicians and even governors, move money out of the country when the allocations from the Federal Allocation comes. This large amount could be one of such. It is also possible that the money is for some other activities that are terrorism related. You know this period, where there is crisis all over the country, anything could happen, really.” While Nigerian Compass on Saturday could not confirm from Police authorities, the spokesman of the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi confirmed that his commission was aware of the development. According to him, “The EFCC is aware of the matter and we believe it is witin the purview of the EFCC to unravel the source of the money. We are already investigating the matter and would make it public soon” It was further learnt that the suspicion of security agencies on the source of the money was not unrelated with the crises that have become the lot of some parts of Northern Nigeria in the past one year and the incessant bomb blasts in the country recently.... While Borno State has been witnessing mayhem from a religious sect, Boko Haram, Jos in Plateau State has become a shadow of itself, over internecine wars, that border on both ethnic and religious reasons. Between October 1 and December last year, Abuja, the once peaceful Federal Capital Territory, has witnessed two separate multiple bomb blasts that has tens of persons killed. That is in addition to similar blasts in some other parts of the country.

A 13-year old sex slave (name withheld) has escaped from a hotel in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, after sleeping with at least 10 men daily for almost two months.
Alice-356x336.jpg?width=356
She was forced into prostitution by her aunt simply called Victoria, who brought her from Akwa Ibom to Lagos in December last year.

The JSS 2 student said it was while she was making effort to escape back to Akwa Ibom State after she fled from the hotel that someone saw her on the street and took her to a police station.

At the station, she told the police how she slept with at least 10 men daily, that is, about 550 men had sex with her throughout the two months she spent in the hotel.

She said each man paid her N1,000 to have sex with her. And her aunt, Victoria, usually comes around to collect the day’s proceeds.

The teenager said Victoria lied to her parents in Akwa Ibom that she was bringing her to Lagos to attend school only for her to be taken to a hotel and asked to sleep with men.

According to the girl, she gave me a room and brought mini skirt and slide dress and asked me to wear them.

“I did not understand what that meant until men started to approach me and I saw other girls going into their rooms with men,” she said.

“My aunt came to my room and coached me on how I should behave and directed that if any man comes to me I should collect N1000 and allow him to have sex with me.”

She also warned her to behave well so that they can always come back.

“That was how I started sleeping with men and at least 10 men have sex with me on daily basis and my aunt will collect the money and leave only food money for me,” she narrated.

On why she ran away from the hotel, she said that she was having severe pains in her private part and “when I complained to her, she wouldn’t hear of it and gave me oil to be robbing inside it but the pain continued until I could no longer bear it.”

Narrating how she agreed to follow her aunt to Lagos, she said that she hails from Ukuda in Akwa Ibom State and was in JSS2 when Victoria came from Lagos in December to take her here.

“She told my parents that she would like to assist them by sending me to school,” adding that since she was living in Lagos, she will take the victim along with her.

“On the day we set out from the village to Lagos, she gave my mom N500 and we left,” she narrated.

When they got to Lagos, she took her to a popular hotel in Ejigbo, New Love Hotel, situated at Lafenwa area, NNPC, Ejigbo.

On how she came to the police station, she said that when she could not bear the pain any longer, she ran away. She said she was crying and looking for a way to go back to the village because she does not know any place in Lagos.

While she was looking for a way to escape to the village a man took her to the station after listening to her plight.

Following her escape, the police have arrested the manager of the hotel identified as Johnson while Victoria was said to be on the run.

Though the manager has been granted bail, he was ordered to produce Victoria who brought the little girl to Lagos as a sex slave. On how she came to the police station, she said that when she could not bear the pain any longer, she ran away. She said she was crying and looking for a way to go back to the village because she does not know any place in Lagos.

P.M.NEWS
gathered that the Area Commander Zone D, Mushin has ordered full investigation into the matter.

Malawi row over whether new law bans farting

_51098196_img_0202.jpg?width=304 The justice minister said local chiefs would deal with those caught breaking wind in public

Two of Malawi's most senior judicial officials are arguing over whether a new bill includes a provision that outlaws breaking wind in public.

Justice Minister George Chaponda says the new bill would criminalise flatulence to promote "public decency".

"Just go to the toilet when you feel like farting," he told local radio.

However, he was directly contradicted by Solicitor General Anthony Kamanga, who says the reference to "fouling the air" means pollution.

"How any reasonable or sensible person can construe the provision to criminalising farting in public is beyond me," he said, adding that the prohibition contained in the new law has been in place since 1929.

The Local Courts Bill, to be introduced next week reads: "Any person who vitiates the atmosphere in any place so as to make it noxious to the public to the health of persons in general dwelling or carrying on business in the neighbourhood or passing along a public way shall be guilty of a misdemeanour."

Mr Chaponda, a trained lawyer, insists that this includes farting.

"Would you be happy to see people farting anyhow?" he asked on the popular "Straight Talk" programme on Malawi's Capital Radio...

He said that local chiefs would deal with any offenders...

When asked whether it could be enforced, he said it would be similar to laws banning urinating in public.

He told the court that the marriage, which was solemnization on April 18, 1998 had failed to produce any children despite several attempts which included the IVF (Invitro Uterine Fertilization) process.
The 40-year old pastor said after series of tests it was discovered that his wife had fibroid, a situation which made her to become a completely different person.
“She became aggressive, hostile and confrontational despite all my pleas. She banned sex between both of us forever,” the petitioner said.
He further told the court that his 44-year old wife moved out of their matrimonial home on June 6, 2009 while he was away on a church programme.
Gbadamosi said: “When I came back, I was very shocked because she never divulged the new place of her abode.
“I sought for her, went to her office, knelt down for her publicly and begged her to return home because God can still do it.”
He alleged that his wife told him she left their marriage to seek for a child elsewhere because she was told to do so by God.
The petitioner therefore asked the court to dissolve the marriage because his wife has moved on with her life.
The case was adjourned till 2 March 2011 for cross-examination and defence.

Afeez Agboola, 40, had attended Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP), ward meeting at Orile Iganmu, afeez-family%5B1%5D.gif?width=227Lagos, that fateful January 11, 2011, with the hope of coming back home to meet members of his family.

The meeting ended came to a close quite alright, but Afeez didn’t make it to his house at Igando, a Lagos suburb, as he was stabbed to death by one Ahmed Fatai.

The deceased had tried to save Ahmed’s mother, whose son (Ahmed), armed with knife, was pursuing her, as she kept screaming for help. But in an attempt to intervene he lost his own life in the process.
The deceased’s widows and children

When Daily Sun visited Moshalashi Street, where the incident occurred, people gathered round the body of the husband of three wives, who was in the pool of blood.

One of the eyewitnesses, who spoke to the reporter on the condition of anonymity, painted a graphic picture of how the meeting ended and Afeez getting ready to go home before he saw the armed Ahmed pursuing his mother...

“Ahmed’s mother was screaming for help, pleading with the son to spare her life. Afeez went to rescue her, but Ahmed stopped, stared at his face and stabbed him in the neck and chest,” he said.

Ahmed’s father was said to have hired a tricycle known in Lagos as Keke Marwa to rush him to the hospital, but it was too late as the Good Samaritan died few minutes later.

Afeez, a shoemaker, lived at Orile- Iganmu for many years, before he packed into his own house at Igando with his third wife, Taiye, who is said to be five months pregnant. His first widow, Nuratu, who disclosed that they had been married for the past 20 years, said they were friends, before they decided to get married.

She said: “He was my boyfriend, when he was in Boys Academy, Lagos. I’m his first wife. This is his second wife (pointing at a woman). Her name is Kudirat. The third wife is five months pregnant and she is living at Igando. “My husband was a successful shoemaker, and was popular man, I have two boys for him. “He once had a shop at Baale Street, Orile -Iganmu, before he moved to Lagos Island and later, Igando.

He told the third wife that he wanted to attend PDP ward meeting and to return home before 4.30. But he was killed at about 1pm.” The widow also narrated how her husband had earlier refrained himself from going out and restricted his movement to his compound since January. “He just decided to stay at home and prayed, till that fateful day he was murdered. He was a peaceful person, who disliked fighting.

“He could be angry but he never raised his hands on someone,” she revealed. His second widow with whom they had two children, a boy and a girl, said she was informed of his death on phone.

She described him as a good husband, who took care of his wives and children Ahmed’s sister, Modinat, also told Daily Sun how the family concealed the tragic incident from their father because of his failing health.

But the family could not hide the death of his son for too long as the 72-year-old man knew about his murder. Pa Moshood Agboola explained that the deceased was the only one taking care of him.

He lamented: “What am I living again for? The man, who killed my son has killed me, too. Who will take care of me? I’m now 72 years old, Afeez is my first son. The person, who killed him should know that it wasn’t only my son that he killed.

“He was a peace lover, he died, trying to make peace and to save life. His mother died long time ago and I gave him good home training. “I want the government and police to investigate the case properly, and, to bring the suspect to justice. This is what the family wants.” The traditional ruler of the area, Baale Jonathan Balogun, 80, also condemned the action of the suspect.

Meanwhile, residents of Orile-Iganmu said they suspected that Ahmed ran amok few minutes, after he came back from the mosque. According to them, he suffers from what they described as momentary insanity. They claimed it might have been responsible for his action. But the Baale reasoned: “If he suffered from insanity and was stopped from killing his mother, why did he kill another person?”

Emotions ran high yesterday at the Lagos State Police headquarters, Ikeja, after a 46 -year-old man gave a startling confession of how he masterminded the killing of his United States based mother last December, in their Isolo abode..

The suspect, Adedeji Idowu , was arrested along side his wife, Adebimbe, a graduate of English language from the Lagos State University, Ojo, for allegedly been in the know of the plot to kill her mother-in-law upon her arrival.

The deceased , 65-year-old Alhaja Sikirat Idowu, only returned from America on December 1 , 2010, unaware that , that would be her last trip alive. Adedeji, it was gathered, went to pick his mother from the airport and arrived their 17, Akiti Avenue, Isolo, at about 11pm.

The ovation that greeted her arrival was however, disrupted by the appearance of four strange men who ordered everyone to lie flat. The armed men reportedly demanded for Alhaja Sikirat's money and luggage. But she was reported to have put up a struggle, following which she was shot right in the chest and died instantly.

Policemen attached to Okota division began investigation into the death until last week when they made headway, leading to Adedeji arrest. When his apartment was searched, some of the loots stolen from his late mother were recovered.

When interviewed, 46-year-old Adedeji who was paraded alongside his wife and a member of the four-man gang that invaded the deceased home, said he never told the armed men to kill his mother. Rather, he claimed he only instructed them to collect her money and other things she brought.

Looking remorseful and with a shaky voice, Adedeji said, "I never knew they would kill her. I only told them to collect the dollars she brought and other things. My mum was my benefactor, she was always there for me. Anytime I was short of cash, I usually ran to her for help".

But things, according to him, fell apart between him and his mother late 2009. " Before then, I brought someone in 2008 that was owing me N4 Million. She promised to collect the money from the person when she got to US. But because of the misunderstanding, I was not on greeting terms with her until she traveled."

Asked what caused the misunderstanding, he kept mute, ignored the question and continued with his explanation, " even members of my extended family came to settle the rift between us but the quarrel lingered until she left for US. Later, I called one of my siblings in US who informed me mummy would be coming in December. I then contacted Ologede who contacted other members of the gang.

The plan was to get the money she brought . When she eventually arrived , I went to pick her at the airport and immediately she came in , the robbers came out of their hiding, stated the graduate of Textiles in one of the Southern Universities.

Narrating the chain of events that led to the death of Alhaja Sikirat Idowu earlier, out-going Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo, said Adedeji craftily excused himself from the welcome party , where he signaled members of the gang to strike. The suspects, according to Akpoyibo, " arrived the late Alhaja's residence in a BMW saloon car belonging to one of them named Ambali.

They also escaped from the scene using the same car, after robbing the 65-year-old grand mother of laptops, assorted jewelries , phones, cash which denomination was in dollars and other valuables"

A total sum of 50,000 US dollars was said to have been stolen from the deceased . But his son only got 200 US dollar(equivalent of N30,000) two laptops and jewelries.

But investigations, according to Akpoyibo, showed that Adededi's wife, Adebimpe went to collect the money and other loots from the suspect. When approached, Adebimpe did not deny it. But she only claimed she got to know of her husband's involvement after the attack.

She confessed to have been given some of the gold jewelries, one of which she sold for N50,000 at Yaba. On why she did not tell anyone of her husband's involvement, she replied, " I only wanted to save my marriage. He told me after the incident. I asked him following the news around the area that my husband knew something about the robbery . So when I confronted him he opened up to me and begged me to cover him up.

After some days, he sent me to get the money from Ologede and when I went, I was only given 200 dollars and some jewelries, part of which my husband gave me"

At a point , she bent her head down and wiped away the tears that was running down her cheeks. Recalling how it all happened, she stated, " I was leaning on the balcony when Alhaja's arrival was announced. I quickly ran out to meet her and immediately I got there with one of the maids, the men came and ordered both of us to lie down. When they demanded for money she said she had no money and when one of them attempted to carry her luggage, she snatched it from him and the next thing I heard was a gun shot. It was after they left that I raised alarm. I have never been myself since the incident",said the mother of two.

But one of the arrested suspects, Maminu Olusoji said the gate of the building was opened to them by no other than Adedeji. He stated that Adedeji actually took them to where they would hide before his mother's arrival. Maminu , a father of two, is a popular plantain seller at Idi-Oro market in Mushin area of Lagos. He also claimed to be a member of the Odua Peoples Congress(OPC)

He disclosed further that the plan to kill the late Alhaja took three weeks to finish. " We met three times at Dalekeo. When he came, he told me to get people that would help attack his mother. But he told us plainly that we should not kill her.

He said she was a witch and that she had killed one of his siblings . He also added that she had hypnotized him .But on the day we went, I was not the one that shot. It was Irabor. I drove the vehicle. Even when we left the scene, We all blamed Irabor for shooting and he said the woman tried putting up a struggle and that he released the bullet by mistake".

Though no date has been announced for the wedding yet, the actress is set to silence her critics as plans are in top gear for the wedding, which is very likely to hold soon.

Contrary to some reports that the wedding plans have hit a brickwall due to the fact that the groom-to-be parents didn’t want their son to marry Stephanie, the actress said there is no iota of truth in the reports.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS on phone yesterday, Stephanie, who has just featured in a Hollywood flick titled Through The Glass, declined to give details of the wedding plans now, but confirmed she has no problem whatsoever with her fiancée’s parents as it was being rumoured.

“My brother, I have decided not to talk about this issue for now, but trust me; you will be among the first people to know when I’m ready to make the plans public. Everything is in order and I don’t have problem with anybody,” said Stephanie.

In August 2004, Stephanie got married to former Super Eagles player, Chikelue, but the union was officially dissolved in January 2007 on mutual grounds.

Born in Imo State in 1982, Stephanie Onyekachi Okereke is the sixth child of eight children. A model and film director, she emerged the first runner-up in the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria [MBGN], beauty pageant in 2002, and ever since, her career has been on a steady rise.

This ebony-skinned actress has actually carved a niche for herself, clinching awards both from the local and foreign scenes. Some of her awards include 2003 Reel Award for Best Actress, 2006 Afro Hollywood Award for Best Actress among others.

What almost wrecked her flourishing career happened in April 2005 when she had a close shave with death. She was involved in an auto crash. She was actually on her way to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State for the Africa Movie Academy Awards [AMAA] when she had the accident.

She had been nominated in the Best Actress Category...

Stephanie does not like talking about her crashed marriage with the ex-Super Eagles footballer, but she acknowledged that he was a shoulder for her to lean on during the time of the accident. She was flown abroad for proper medical attention, and it took her almost a year to bounce back in front of the cameras.

“Yes, he stood by me when I had an accident but it was his responsibility to take care of somebody he claimed he loved and was his woman. It is not as if I don’t appreciate the fact that he stood by me, but he was supposed to be there. If he weren’t there, people would start talking,” she said.

buhariface.png?width=222All our military heads of state were largely insensitive, corrupt, almost illiterate, self-appointed tyrants who seized their stripes of honour (dishonour is probably more appropriate) through coups rather than the rigours of formal training, experience or war..
Each one of the military heads of state simply got up from bed one chosen morning, pistle on the hip, jackboots on the ready to besmear our constitution to loot our treasury to their hearts content. Of course, they soon made up on the job for their lack of proper war or soldiering experience by detaining, tear gassing, shooting and bombing citizens protesting against their high-handedness and misrule. Everyone of our coup Generals aspired to be the richest lazy fool in the world sitting like an over-fed baboon atop the tallest tree in our devastated and rotting vineyard, savouring their exploits amidst squalor, hunger and decaying corpses. General Muhammadu Buhari was one of such military heads of state.

Shagari’s regime (1979-1983), incurred Buhari’s wrath when it decided to investigate the US$2.8 billion that disappeared from the Midland Bank, London account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, (NNPC), during General Obasanjo’s era as military head of state that preceded Shagari’s. Dr. Olusola Saraki, Turaki of Ilorin, was the majority party leader of the Senate at the time and he headed the Senate Committee set up to trace the stolen money after some three years of clamour for such an investigation by members of the civil society. The money was traced to the Midland Bank London branch fixed account of Obasanjo’s appointee as military head of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. The Committee’s report was presented to the Senate during the tail end of Shagari’s regime in 1983, so the House decided to deal with the matter and expose the rogue military head of the NNPC soon after the 1983 general elections. The attempt at civilian-to-civilian transition provided the fillip for mayhem at the time. The elections were marred by massive rigging because incumbent political office holders were refusing to slacken their stranglehold on Nigeria Plc., mortgaged as the leaders private property.

On the 31st December, 1983, Buhari struck under the cover of the political commotion that trailed the presidential election results. Buhari generally had no agenda for leadership but vendetta against those he called critics and rabble-rousers. Buhari did not see any moral wrong in his conversion of our oil money into his personal use. Rather he railed at the press and what he described as the self-righteous sections of the country for making a big deal out of the issue. He locked up without trial, politicians and critics including Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, notorious for clamouring for the exposure of the oil money rogue. Satire saved my neck at the time. Vera Ifudu, who was an NTA reporter then, was sacked through his prodding as military ruler, for reporting what Dr. Olusola Saraki had told her in an interview about how the missing money was traced to Buhari’s account at a Midland Bank London branch. Vera eventually won her case of wrongful dismissal in court against the NTA and was financially compensated.Buhari’s ‘War Against Indiscipline’ was obviously a swathe to camouflage his moral decadence. He did not see anything wrong with the over 50 suitcases an Emir smuggled through the Murtala International Airport without routine checks. And as a master of selective justice, he refused to convict Shagari, claiming not to find direct evidence against him but making a mountain out of a molehill on the indulgencies of Shagari’s lieutenants. His regime’s masterstroke to divert attention from his moral ineptitude was exemplified by his crating of Umaru Dikko to airfreight back to Nigeria from London. Despite his moral degeneracy and his high handedness and intolerance of dissent, his regime was not a total disaster. He maintained a vibrant foreign policy with Africa as its principal focus. Nigeria was already a failed state economically when he seized government from Shagari. We had a staggering foreign debt load of US$18 billion, so Buhari stopped all further borrowing, and in defiance of the IMF and World Bank, provided a homegrown alternative to the IMF’s SAP and pegged the exchange rate of the naira at one to the US$1.50. He stopped all further borrowing from abroad; instituted counter trade for essential or desperately needed commodities and put a ceiling (or an upper limit) on the amount of foreign exchange earnings to be used in servicing foreign debts. After sorting out and rejecting all the dubious and unverifiable foreign debts in our portfolio, he paid off nearly 50% of the genuine debts by the end of his regime in 1985. Even Britain was already scheming to enter into counter trade agreement with Nigeria when Babangida was sponsored in 1986 by the West to sack Buhari in a military coup that reversed our limited economic gains. Not much is known about Buhari’s family background. Not a great deal has been heard about his educational qualifications either. As head of state, he was a recluse to the core. At least, that was the image he portrayed. His deputy, the late Gen. Idiagbon, was considered by most Nigerians to be the star of Buhari’s regime. It is to Idiagbon that any credit due to that regime is generally attributed. Idiagbon was the defacto head of state. He was honest, upright, disciplined, and like Murtala Muhammed before him, he succeeded briefly in introducing order and sanity to our lives.

After consigning the vexatious matters that brought him to power, to administrative oblivion with the help of Shinkafi, his Secret Service guru, Buhari announced his readiness to quit office. Idiagbon, as Buhari’s lieutenant, naturally insisted on taking over as head of state from his apparently prematurely retiring boss. Babangida, who was Chief of Army Staff at the time and a member of the Supreme Military Council, insisted it was his turn to rule because he had been involved in virtually every military coup up to that time. The quarrel split the Supreme Military Council members almost equally behind the two principal combatants and eventually led to the overthrow of Buhari’s regime by Babangida. America, Britain and the other leading western nations hailed Babangida’s coup and immediately sent emissaries to strategize with him. President Reagan went out of his way to send him gifts including books such as Niccolo Machiavelli’s: the Prince, advocating the destruction of civil freedom to strengthen despotism. The June 12 annulment provided Buhari with the opportunity to publicly wear a messianic toga while quietly pursuing private vendetta against someone he considered his enemy. He attended meetings at Ota to join with others to condemn Babangida’s decision and as soon as the decision was reached to ask Babangida to step down, he stopped attending further meetings. He had achieved his revenge.

Abacha rehabilitated Buhari with the chairmanship of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) before he (Abacha) died in 1998. When Obasanjo returned to power in May 1999 as civilian president, he found that over 2.5 billion naira had not been properly accounted for in the PTF and that there was not much on the ground to show for the colossal expenditure the agency was claiming. On the day Obasanjo announced the scrapping of the PTF, a non-staff brother-in-law of the boss, allegedly serving as his conduit on some PTF projects, died suddenly from what appeared to be heart failure. Most of what he was able to achieve in the PTF, was focused in his backyard. Haruna Adamu, who was appointed by Obasanjo to investigate the PTF before finally consigning it to the dung heap, quickly pocketed one hundred million naira of PTF’s money before operating table could be set up for him, thus forcing Obasanjo to hurriedly close the place down without further investigations. Buhari has been trying desperately since to return to power, perhaps to get a chance to shred the PTF documents?

Buhari is a tribal and religious bigot. When he lost the presidential election in April 2003, he threatened the nation with mass action and refused to go to court. He organized a rally in Abuja, as one in a series of such civil acts of disobedience to protest what he described as the massive rigging of the election that brought Obasanjo to power the second time.

He almost succeeded in launching his Jihad. The alleged taped sermon of an unnamed pastor at an unidentified church in Adamawa claiming that: “Whether Muslims like it or not, Obasanjo must continue” and that “any Muslim who does not want that, can die or move to Niger” was obviously a blatant forgery. It was very likely to be the handiwork of the ‘Crater of Dikko brigade. For a start, the language of the sermon was too brash to be true, especially coming as it was claimed, from a Christian minority likely to bear the brunt of the consequences of the offensive sermon in a predominantly Muslim state. The Christian minority would have had to be mad to the last man, to call for their own annihilation in such a careless and irresponsible manner.

It is not logical that the Christian cleric would send hundreds of his suicide sermon tapes, not to Christians, but to Muslim clerics and the media around the country. Someone who desperately wanted to kill Nigeria must think we are all morons and I suggest we look for him at the backyard of our current number one Jihadist. Where else to look when Buhari was threatening he must occupy the Presidency whether he won the election or not. We begged him to go to the Electoral Tribunal to settle the matter but he insisted that he would rather clubber us to death, with religion than subject himself to the in indignity of being judged by another man. That is how badly he cares about our welfare and survival.

One is not always sure if he is truly a Nigerian because let’s face it; no true Nigerian would hate Nigeria so much as to threaten her with a Jihad. May be the problem is of a mental nature considering the gutter snipes often credited to the supposed statesman on the Hausa service of the BBC and other foreign media about his fatherland. He seems to love to speak before he thinks. There is something definitely troubling about the mind of this crater genius because it is probably not just Nigerians that he hates but life itself in its totality. In other words, we are probably all trapped in the vicious grip of a cool and calculating sadist. In fact, I am told that no one has ever seen him smile or laugh.

Sam Omatseye, writing about Buhari in the Sun newspaper at the time said: “He (Buhari) uses Sharia to justify his worldview; to justify a certain selfish view of the world that serves his interest at a particular time. He played that card in the presidential election in order to secure a base for himself. But he needed more than his northern base to become president. You must be flexible to pull non-sharia base with you and the man has no flexibility in his bones so when he tries to play the chameleon, he fails. He tries to carry a veneer of a man of principles but falls short when selfish interest is involved.”Buhari has no respect for democracy. Under his behest, the ANPP humiliated five highly respected South-Eastern Presidential aspirants at their primary for the 2003 presidential election despite having Dr. Okadigbo as Buhari’s running mate. After rigging his party’s primary to become its presidential candidate, Buhari then felt he stood on moral grounds to preach election morals to the world. Buhari ignored the South-West completely, as if it did not exist and offered the South-South, the unattractive, legally diminished constitutional option on derivation. To rob salt into injury, he threatened to swap NDDC with PTF. If he wasn’t playing with words, he betrayed his selfish ethnic agenda because we all know what happened in his PTF. It concentrated its activities in the North.

Buhari definitely was not a sellable presidential candidate across Nigeria. What happened was that the incumbent ANPP governors needed a Buhari to help them hold on to their states on religious grounds. Even in the area of public debate, Buhari was not articulate or detribalized and he lacked charisma. He ignored all entreaties to explain his programmes to the ‘bloody civilians.’ Arrogant and condescending, he was unable to climb down from his high horse as a former military dictator. Infused with the moribund myth that Nigerian leadership was the sole property of his ethnic group, he assumed he could cow the rest of us with a jihad. If that failed, some said, military coup was a possibility because a kaferi must not continue to rule. He concentrated his campaign (if it could be called that, because he said very little at every stop), in the North-East and North-West of the country. The little he said, was only in the Hausa language to titillate the warrior nerves of his jihadist gang.

With 19 states in the North, he was convinced he could, at least, force a re-run in the elections, forgetting that the North Central states are already a little weary of jihad. Even the core North itself has some 30% Christian population. Awolowo and Zik exposed the fallacy of the monolithic north by winning elections all over the place during their time. Abiola proved that religion is not the cocoon the Buharis think it is in modern Nigerian politics.

He prostitutes his political ambition by moving from party to party, with the sole aim of becoming the presidential candidate of any party he joins. He is not prepared to serve under anyone else, definitely not under a southern candidate. On seeing that he would not be able to realize his selfish ambition in the mega party he initially joined with others to form, he hurriedly formed a break away party where no one would challenge him as presidential candidate. Since there is no hope of his legitimately ever becoming the Nigerian president or head of state again, Nigerians need to be preparing now for a possible jihad led by this man in the not too distant future.

Family Disappears On Way to Asaba from Lagos

A Dubai-based Nigerian family has been declared missing after they embarked on a journey from Lagos to Asaba, Delta State. The family of four has been missing for seven days now.

•The missing Onyeocha family: Only the man (behind) did not travel with the family.

The Onyeocha family, including Edna, 35, and her three kids, Loveth, 11, Precious, 8, Golden, 6 and Edna’s cousin, Chinyere, left Lagos last Wednesday in a chartered Toyota Camry saloon car with registration number LAGOS KU 108 EKY. Ugochukwu Onyeocha, Edna’s husband and father of the missing kids, told P.M. NEWS that he and his family came into the country on Monday, 24 January for a holiday from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, their base. The last time the family came to Nigeria was five years ago.
But last Wednesday morning, he hired a cab that came to pick them up at Jakande Estate, Isolo, where they all stayed with his wife’s sister, before their ill-fated journey to the Delta State capital.
According to Ugochukwu, an accountant, his wife, Edna, a staff of Standard Chartered Bank, Dubai, and the children left for the trip around 10a.m. in a car driven by a man called Godfrey Emmanuel Inalegwu, who works for a car hire outfit. .
Ugochukwu said he last spoke with his wife at around 11a.m. of that Wednesday and later around 3p.m. when he tried to check on them. But he could no longer reach her afterwards as her phone was switched off.
Ugochukwu was now disturbed by his inability to reach his family.
“I again called her phone to confirm their safety but her phone was still switched off. I later gave up, thinking probably because they were on the expressway, and there was no network. After some time, I tried again and the phone remained dead.
“My kids don’t use phones so I didn’t bother to call them. At a point, I thought maybe she was tired and wanted to rest. So, later I went to bed.”
But early the next day, Ugochukwu’s mother-in-law, whom the Onyeochas were going to visit in Asaba, was the first to call, asking after them. Ugochukwu was stunned when his wife’s mom told him she was yet to set eyes on his family.
“After my mother-in-law gave me this shocking news, I quickly picked my phone and tried my wife’s line over and over but it remained switched off.
“I then rushed to the Red Cab park in Amuwo Odofin, to look for the driver named Olajide that brought the driver that took my family on the journey, but I didn’t meet him. I asked after him from his colleagues and they said he came around in the morning and left.
“I asked for his number and called him but his number was switched off. So I left and dropped my number with them that he should call me as soon as he comes. He did call me later but had no clues as to their whereabouts.”
The missing family are suspected to have been abducted somewhere near Otu Costain – a border town between Ondo and Edo States – based on the record on the map of the tracking device attached to the car they were travelling in.
“The map showed that the vehicle left Lagos around 10 a.m. and passed Ore. They got to a place called Otu Costain, the car stopped there for six minutes and continued again; after that nothing could be seen again on the map. Whatever happened to my family could have occurred at that point,” Onyeocha told P.M.NEWS.
Meanwhile, the matter is now being investigated by detectives at the Force Criminal Investigations Department, FCID, Panti, in Yaba. Ugochukwu first reported the case at the Festac Police Station before it was transferred to Panti.

The incident, which almost got out of hand also, consumed nine cars belonging to the bank and its members of staff, while the ATM machine was looted and set on fire.

The two persons were rushed to an undisclosed hospital, but unconfirmed reports said they later died of gun injuries. Trouble started when the policeman accidentally shot the taxi driver who had parked in front of the bank for his passenger to alight. The bullet also hit the female passenger, which led to her death; and this triggered the riot and attack on the bank.

Lorry load of policemen and soldiers were later brought to control the situation..

The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, John Haruna told journalists that “the policeman at the centre of the crisis has been taken into custody,” stressing that there were certain conditions that must be met before firearms could be used, but these conditions were not satisfied before the policeman fired his weapon.” The Mpape Divisional Police Officer, Imran Balarabe said he was at home when the incident happened but was informed by the Divisional Crime Officer via a phone call around 8 am. “I quickly dashed to the scene, only to see hundreds of angry people attacking the bank and attempting to break into the banking hall.” He said. The DPO said the information he had was that the gun went off when the policeman hit his rifle against the car to urge the taxi driver not to park in front of the bank, adding that the rifle may not have been cocked. However, Igwebuike Ugwueze, an artisan whose workshop is directly opposite the bank explained to NEXT that he heard a gunshot and saw the policeman speeding away as he was hotly chased by the mob.

“The policemen escaped into a bus which took off, then the people mobilised and started stoning the bank before setting it on fire. I learnt that some people suffered gunshot wounds, but I didn’t see any dead bodies,” he said.

NEXT observed money bands littering the frontage of the bank as well as expended shells on the ground.

Buhari picks Bakare for CPC VP

12166207275?profile=originalThe presidential candidate of the Congress for
Progressive Change (CPC), Gen Muhamadu Buhari has picked fiery preacher; Pastor Gbolahan Babatunde Bakare as his running mate for the 2011 presidential election as the deadline for nomination of
candidates expires today....

The frontline runner for the highest political office in the land hinged his choice on the need to put the best feet forward in what promises to be a decisive political challenge for the soul of Nigeria. "We have seen the uncommon enthusiasm of our people to register to vote in spite of the many challenges of the exercise, that speaks to their desire to do what Tunisians and Egyptians are doing on the streets through the ballot box in April.

There is a compelling need to give them a ticket that will make all their sacrifices worth the while and that is what we have done” he said.

General Buhari also condemns the wave of serial violence in Borno,Plateau and other parts of the country which have left casualties in it's trail and with the Federal Gov
ernment appearing totally helpless.

"It is sad that these dastardly acts are taking place without any coordinated response from the government to guarantee the safety of lives and property.

A responsible leadership must not agonize over the virtual breakdown of security in parts of the country, it must organize the security system to deal with the situation first and create the atmosphere for social justice to flourish to end the conditions that make citizens to let loose against each other".

While condoling with the Borno State Government and people as well as all those who have lost loved ones in these pockets of violence, General Buhari sues for peace among all Nigerians and called on the government to sit up and bring an end to this palpable state of insecurity.

On the unfounded allegation by Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido that his supporters are responsible for a hate text message circulating after the PDP primaries,Geneneral Buhari said it is regrettable that some
people can't appreciate that certain offices require a high degree of responsibility in utterances.

"What evidence has he got to say that the text came from any of my supporters? Has he gone to the service providers and they told him the text originated from a phone traceable to anyone who is my supporter? I condemn any attempt to spread hate among Nigerians but I suspect this may be a mischief from our opponents who cannot face issues but dwell only on weeping up emotions. And it may appear that the governor may be aware of those behind this hatchet job"

General Buhari added that he has never been involved in the zoning debate because the Federal Republic of Nigeria with all the people within no matter how they talk to God is his constituency."Those who don't want the progress of our people have spent fortunes over the years to raise silly propaganda about me.I have been around for some years and vie challenged them to bring out one person I ever discriminated against based on faith but they are
yet to take up the challenge. They should continue to tell lies about me just as I will continue to tell the truths about them" He insisted that the weapons that worked for them in the past will not produce this time around.

"We will force them to discuss issues. They must explain why poverty has increased from 45 per cent in 1999 to 76 percent in 2011 in spite of unprecedented revenue under the PDP Government. Nigerians want to know how we got to a situation where 98 per cent of our children now fail NECO examinations whereas we had 54 per cent pass in WAEC examinations in 1999.The Global Financial Integrity recently reported that an average of $15b left the shores of Nigeria in illicit transfers in the eight years it surveyed under PDP rule"

Imam guilty of raping boy at mosque

1932953-vlarge.jpgA Muslim cleric has been convicted of raping a young boy as he attended Islamic education lessons at his mosque...

Mohammed Hanif Khan, 42, was also found guilty by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court of sexual activity with a child, as well as the two counts of rape.

The charges relate to two boys who attended the mosque in Capper Street, Stoke on Trent, where he was imam, in 2009.

Prosecutor Tariq Bin Shakoor told the jury part of Khan's job was to lead prayers and give Islamic education lessons to boys at evening classes.

He told the court one of the boys claimed in police interviews that he was singled out by Khan after evening prayer on several occasions. He was sexually assaulted in various areas of the mosque which were not covered by CCTV, Mr Shakoor told the court.

The other boy was assaulted when he was an overnight guest at Khan's house, the jury of six men and six women were told.

But in his evidence to the court Khan, of Owler Lane, Sheffield, said he had a close relationship with the youngsters because he tried to help them with their unruly behaviour, adding that he would often be more lenient on the boys if they were late or did not turn up for classes at the mosque because he was aware they had issues at home.

Khan's lawyer, Robert Woodcock QC, asked him who had invited him to get involved in the family's business and he said it was mainly the mothers of the two boys who asked for his help.

Khan, who told the court he travelled to Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, India and Cyprus to complete his imam training, showed no emotion as the jury delivered its verdicts.

A further five charges were dismissed by Mrs Justice Dobbs because the jury could not reach a decision, and she adjourned the trial for pre-sentence reports to a date yet to be fixed.

A TEENAGE boy made up allegations that an Imam attempted to rape him because he feared he would be sent to Pakistan, a court heard.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claims Imam Mohammed Hanif Khan sexually assaulted him and tried to rape him when he stayed over at his Meir home.

The 41-year-old Muslim leader, who now lives in Owler Lane, Sheffield, denies three counts of rape, four attempted rapes and one count of sexual activity with a child. The charges relate to two boys.

Nottingham Crown Court heard yesterday that the teenager's parents were struggling to control his behaviour and that Khan was also concerned that the boy was getting involved with drugs.

The jury heard that last year the boy had admitted, in court, offences of robbery and attempted robbery relating to an incident.

Robert Woodcock QC, defending Khan, said to the boy: "In your police interview you denied being present and denied committing the offences.

"Then you pleaded guilty.

"I suggest that you are not someone who tells the truth.

"And I suggest that on the night at the Imam's house absolutely nothing happened as you describe."

The boy replied: "No".

Mr Woodcock said: "I suggest you and the other boy put your heads together and this is all lies.

"I believe that at the time you made this complaint there was a very serious consideration by the Imam and your grandfather to send you to school in Pakistan."

The boy denied members of his family wanted to send him to Pakistan because of his behaviour.

Mr Woodcock said: "After the night you spent at the Imam's house, you told your family he was a chilled out bloke and how he was somebody you could trust."

The boy said: "I told my mother that he was not the kind of person she thought he was. He might seem like a nice person but he's not."

"Did your mother not ask you what you meant by that?" said Mr Woodcock.

"Yes," said the boy. "I didn't have the confidence to tell her what happened."

"But you plucked up enough confidence to tell her what sort of man you thought he was. You could have just explained more about it?" said Mr Woodcock.

"I just couldn't. I was in shock," said the boy.

The trial continues.
