Word reaching us, is that Gabriel Amanyi, aka Terry G has been involved in a terrible auto accident and is critical condition.

The accident occured at about 3am saturday morning, when the singer/producer was on his way home from an outing with friends in Ikeja, Lagos. Apparently he ran into a road demarcation somewhere in Ogba.

No word yet on where he’s being treated. His mobile phone is off, his BlackBerry inactive. And although his manager assures us ‘everything is under control’;

The car- A Toyota Camry – is now lying at the office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Please say a prayer for Terry G and other members of the House Of Ginja involved in the accident.

Three people died instantly, and thirteen others sustained injuries from a road crash that took place at Car Wash, Oworosoki Expressway exit of the Third Mainland Bridge on Tuesday morning.

The accident involved a truck belonging to the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and two commercial vehicles popularly known as ‘Danfo' and ‘Molue.' According to eyewitnesses, the Molue (a fabricated 44-seater bus) lost control and ran into a moving Danfo bus. The Danfo Bus (15 seater bus) subsequently swerved into the LAWMA truck which was about to exit the express way.

"A LAWMA truck wanted to make a U-turn to collect dustbin under the bridge. He did not check his mirror well and as it was making the U-turn, a Molue bus don hit a bus wey dey come. That is how the bus run into the truck," said Tunde Ibrahim, a recharge card seller who witnessed the incident while coming to work at 9am yesterday.

The result of the collusion completely wrecked the Danfo bus and resulted in the instantaneous death of two passengers, while a LAWMA staff died while receiving first aid treatment. Most of the injured, who were coming from Lagos Island where they went to buy goods, were evacuated to St Daniel's Hospital, located about 100m away from the scene of the accident. A few were taken to Gbagada General Hospital. Adewale Ogunkoya, the Administrator of St Daniel's, confirmed that thirteen injured persons were brought into the hospital..

The state of the injured

"Yes we had them brought in about two and half hours ago," he said. "We were able to admit 8 out of the 13 but the remaining 5 were in very critical condition. They had fractures, some were bleeding from the nose and mouth, while others could not regain consciousness. We had to just administer first-aid to and transfer them to the Gbagada General Hospital with the help of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS). All 8 have been stabilized. They are presently coming out of shock and most of them are now conscious."

"The victims sustained fractures on the leg and lacerations on the body and the head, but the hospital was able to stabilize the four men and women, supply them with drip and stitch the areas where they were badly cut. We felt bad, the moment we heard about it, and we alerted the whole hospital staff to get ready for the emergency because the patients may be brought because it happened very close to us, so we were ready. Some could not talk because they were in a state of shock He added the patients where attended to immediately without billing," he added.

A mother of one of the victims, Iyabo Animashaun, expressed gratitude to God for sparing the life of her daughter. "I just want to thank God that she did not have more than a gash on her head," she said. "It may look nasty but at least she is alive. The doctors just want her here for some time to make sure everything is okay before she is discharged."

At the Gbagada General Hospital, the situation of the victims who were referred there could not be ascertained as the hospital's administrative officers refused to left NEXT see some of the injured passengers. One of the administrative officers, who requested anonymity, confirmed that some accident victims were brought in but could not comment on their condition as he was not involved in their treatment. "Even if they are here, how do you expect us to know how they are doing? Are we their doctors?"

Happily injured

Florence Shotola, a 48-year-old trader who was in the Danfo bus, said she was coming from Adeniyi Adele in Lagos Island, and was on her way to Mile 12. "I have four children, I am very happy I did not die. I am better now thank God for the doctor," she said. Bus accident claims five lives in Lagos

Five people were killed on Saturday morning in an accident involving a commuter bus at Adeniji Adele Bus Stop in Lagos Island. According to eyewitnesses at the scene of the incident, the bus, which was bound for Obalende, was impounded by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the accident happened while one of the officials of LASTMA was driving the bus. "We saw the LASTMA man driving the bus and the brake of the vehicle failed as it was descending the Adeniji Adele Bridge" said an eyewitness, who didn't want to be identified. Austin Akika, the divisional police officer of the Central Police Station, Adeniji Adele, said according to a statement from one of the occupants of the bus, the driver lost control of the vehicle because of the failed brakes. The Chief Superintendent of Police who spoke to NEXT at the LASTMA office on Adeniji Adele said no official of the agency had impounded the bus and that the bus driver and conductor fled after the incident. I am certain Armed Robbers,Immigration authorities,Drug Courts and even the JTF kill less people .THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has said that the number of people who die in road accidents is likely to increase over the next 10 years from the current 1.3 million annually to about 1.9 million by 2020.According to the agency, the over 50 million injured victims annually will also increase except concerted efforts are made to stem the tide of road accident.Assistant Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Apollos Jediel, made the prediction while receiving a delegation that paid a condolence visit to the zonal office over the death of the immediate past Zonal Coordinator, Hajiah Fatimah Usman with her children recently in a road mishap.He said: "These hidden road casualties and injury epidemics, which take away our agile and skilled manpower are a crisis for public health and a major contributor to the causes of poverty."Therefore, it is high time we treat it as a national emergency as we are daily being confronted by an epidemic that kills and maims on the scale of major infectious diseases like malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS."Information Officer of NEMA, Maiduguri zone, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said in a statement, that Jediel listed the menace of petroleum tankers, trailers and large-and-slow moving vehicles' drivers as the major cause of road accidents in the country.Jediel stated that over 70 per cent of road accidents could be prevented, if petroleum tankers, trailers and large-slow moving vehicles' drivers adhere to section 15 of the Highway Code.According to him, the section 15 of the code states that "it is an offence for large and slow moving vehicles to allow smaller or fast moving vehicles queue behind it whenever the driver can pull over safely to make way for other vehicles".The Assistant Zonal Coordinator stated that NEMA has observed that large and slow moving vehicles do not care about the highway regulations that stress the need for them to pull-in and slow down or stop as soon as it is safe to give fast moving vehicles a chance to overtake them safely.He noted that the act by small and fast moving vehicles of queuing behind a trailer or slow moving vehicles most times lead to multiple and fatal accidents as the smaller vehicles struggle to outwit one another.Jediel also drew the attention of the Federal Road Safety Commission to the provision of Section 26 on the indiscriminate parking of fuel tankers, and other long vehicles on our highways.Non-compliance with this provision, he said, also constitutes another major obstruction to other road users as parking on both sides of the road at the same time, known as double- parking, causes hindrance to free movement of other vehicles.The nation has lost many lives and valuables because of accident at the converging spots in various part of the country.The assistant zonal coordinator therefore, urged motorists and other road users to call the attention of the security enforcement agencies' personnel to reckless driving for appropriate sanction against drivers who constitute danger to other road users.NEMA PREDICT

The four-year-old daughter of boxing legend Mike Tyson died last night when she accidentally strangled herself with an electrical cord. Little Exodus was found hanging from the flex which was attached to a treadmill in an exercise room at her mum's home. Her distraught dad was at her bedside as she struggled for life on a hospital respirator. But she died hours later. Exodus was discovered at the house in Phoenix, Arizona, by seven-year-old brother Miguel who alerted their mum Monica Turner. Police Sergeant Andy Hill, who answered Monica's panicked emergency call, said: "It's so tragic. Exodus was playing by herself when she got tangled in the cord which was attached to an exercise treadmill. "It acted like a noose and she was obviously unable to get herself out of it. "We don't know how long she was hanging, but it could have been a couple of minutes." Former heavyweight champion Tyson, 42, who had been filming a documentary in Las Vegas, immediately flew to Phoenix to be beside his daughter. Paediatrician Monica, who is his ex-wife, was also at the hospital. Advertisement - article continues below » A spokesman for the boxer said: "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest, most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time." James Toback, director of the new documentary Tyson, said the accident had devastated Exodus's "adoring" parents. He said: "This is horrendous. There is no more careful a mother." Neighbour Dinka Radic said that Tyson did not live at the house but regularly visited his children. She last saw him a month ago at Miguel's birthday party. Dinka added: "I'd see Exodus and her brother playing together. She always asks me for chocolate. When I give it to her, she kisses me. "She's such a cute girl. A real sweetie. I pray to God she pulls through." Another neighbour, Ben Brodhurst, said: "She's a lively girl, you see her riding a bicycle from house to house." Tyson, who was jailed for rape and drug offences and banned from boxing for biting off part of rival Evander Holyfield's ear, recently said he had turned his life around because of his children. He added: "I've been sober for two-anda-half years and I'm working hard to keep out of trouble. "If there's a transformation it's because of my children. I want to be a proper father."

By Fidelis Soriwei, BeninThe carnage in the nation's roads continued again on Sunday as another accident resulted in the deaths of 18 passengers on Benin-Ore Road.The accident occurred a few days after the death of over 50 people in an auto accident involving a luxury bus and a tanker at the Benin-Auchi Road.Our correspondent gathered that an 18-seater Toyota Hiace vehicle in which the deceased passengers were travelling plunged into the Ovia River just after the Okada junction.According to an eyewitness account, efforts made by motorists and others to rescue the trapped passengers were unsuccessful as they lacked the capacity to drag the submerged bus out of the river.The Good Samaritans were said to have watched helplessly as the passengers were drowned inside the bus.The source added that nobody, including the driver, was able to escape from the vehicle at the time of filing this report.The Benin Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Zakari Nda, confirmed the accident, saying that his men were already on a rescue mission.He did not, however, confirm the casualty figure of the accident, saying he had not been briefed by his commander on ground.Investigation revealed that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle was heading for Benin from the Ore when it plunged into the river.The accident is coming shortly after about 66 people died in two separate auto accidents on the Benin-Auchi Road last week.While 16 market women lost their lives in the first accident which occurred on the Benin-Auchi Road on their way to Onitsha, over 50 people were killed in the second accident involving a tanker and a luxury bus loaded with passengers from Sokoto to Onitsha on Friday.Nda, who confirmed both accidents, said that while it was difficult to give the exact number of those killed in the latter accident, 43 burnt corpses were given mass burial in Benin on Friday evening.Meanwhile, about 10 people were feared killed in South in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State over a lingering chieftaincy dispute in the community.Our correspondent gathered that several other people were injured in the resumed hostilities between two cousins - Messrs Kelvin Danesi and Obebe Umoru - over Aidonogie of South Ibie chieftaincy tussle.According to an eyewitness account, several houses and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the clash between the supporters of the two principal actors in the crisis.It was learnt that crisis had been on for over 10 years and had once been put under control through the intervention of eminent groups like the Ibie Peace Forum based in Lagos in 2007.The source said the resumed violence, which commenced in the evening of Saturday, continued Sunday and had not abated at the time of filing the report.Our correspondent could not also ascertain what actually led to the recent crisis, but a source disclosed that the group loyal to Umoru was angry about the plans being made to mark the 10th year anniversary of Danesi, who is recognised by the state government.Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Sunday, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in the Edo State Police Command, Mr. Clement Adoda, said that the situation had been brought under control.He said that the command had drafted riot policemen and the men of the Police Area Command in Auchi to the community.
