They said, “The living condition in Libya is better than what you have in Nigeria. Life is cheap and the level of security is quite fantastic. After the crisis, we would be ready to go back (to Libya).”
Some however said that they found themselves in Libya on their way to Europe. They have variously spent between four and 17 years in Libya.
One of the returnees, the professional boxer Bash Ali, who said he was in Tripoli for medical treatment, commended the Federal Government for the evacuation exercise and the courteous and speedy response of the concerned agencies.

It was surprise galore on Thursday at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, when a 15-year-old boy, Wasiu Odunewu confessed that he cut off the head of the immediate younger brother of his father, Odunewu Ojo and sold it for N8,000...
The suspect confessed that he was forced to commit the crime due to financial constraints. "It was a week to the just concluded Ileya festival and I needed money to buy clothes and to entertain my friends. So when my friend brought the 'business', I quickly accepted it to raise money for the festival."
Police source at the Eleweran told Sunday Tribune that the suspects have confessed to the crime and investigations on the matters would soon be completed. The suspects - Wasiu Odunewu, Toibu Babalola, 23 and Shakiru Tiamiyu, 17 - are currently cooling their feet in one of the cells at Eleweran..
Speaking on what led them into the crime, one of the suspects, Toibu Babalola told Sunday Tribune that It was his immediate elder brother, Yusuff Babalola that requested that he should help him get a human head. "It was about a week to Ileya festival, I cannot remember the exact date when my brother came to our village from Lagos. He told me that I should help him get a human head, either fresh or dry. He promised to pay any amount. My brother is working in Lagos. When he gave me the assignment, I told him to give me sometime. I contacted my friend, Wasiu Odunewu about it and he (Wasiu Odunewu) agreed to get it at the cost of N10,000.00. I called my brother on his mobile phone to inform him about the development and he agreed to pay N10,000. To carry out the deal, Wasiu also informed his other friend, Shakiru Tiamiyu about the deal. So, we all agreed to carry out the assignment."
On how they carried out the deal, Toibu told Sunday Tribune that it was agreed among three of them that it would be very difficult to get a fresh human skull and that since the alleged receiver, Yusuff Babalola was not keen on whether the head should be fresh or dry, it was agreed that the suspects should dig a grave and cut off the head. Wasiu quickly suggested that he would lead them (suspects) to the grave of his uncle "when we agreed to carry out the assignment, Wasiu told us he would lead us to where his uncle Odunewu Ojo was buried. The three of us - Wasiu, Toibu and Shakiru left for their village in Debari in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. We carried out the assignment in the night around 9.00 pm. But before then, we had gone to the burial site in the afternoon to survey the area. When we went to cut the head, we dug the ground and quickly remove the head and to avoid suspicions we covered the grave and left."
The suspect, Toibu told Sunday Tribune that immediately he got the head, he called his brother to come for it. "After carrying out the deal, I called my brother and he came from Lagos to take the head. He gave me N8,000 and I gave the money to Wasiu. He shared it with his friend, Shakiru. My brother must have used the head for the ritual he wanted to perform."
How they were arrested by the Police, Sunday Tribune learnt that some people in the community noticed that the grave had been tampered with and they raised alarm. They contacted the father of one of the suspects. The family of the dead man went to a traditionalist whom employing charms, the suspects confessed to the crime.
Also speaking and how they were nabbed. Wasiu, told Sunday Tribune saying, "You see, on the day of the operation, we went to the burial site of that my uncle in the afternoon and some people saw us. So, when they saw that the grave had been tampered with, I became the first suspect. The people in the community told my daddy about it and he brought out a charm and told me to tell him everything I knew about the missing head. At that point, I told him that I was responsible for it. He was very sad about it because, the head was that of his immediate younger brother whom he was fond of while alive. My father later invited the Police and I was arrested. I later gave the Police all the necessary information that led to the arrest of my colleagues."
All the suspects explained that they used the money realised from the deal to take care of the ileya festival expenses. "The deal came at a time I needed money for Ileya festival, so when he brought the idea, I could not resist it," Wasiu said.
The Ogun State Police Command yesterday sealed off the state secretariat which houses both the Governor’s Office, and the House of Assembly at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Police said it was necessary to prevent factions embroiled in a tussle over the leadership of the assembly from gaining entrance into the premises.
However, civil servants who saw fully armed policemen cordoning off the area, fled their offices to avoid becoming victims of the fracas.
The Police spokesperson in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the command took the action after receiving information that hoodlums were planning to burn down the complex. Asked if the command got its directive from Abuja, he said he was not aware of any such orders. “I am not aware of any directive from Abuja to close the gates, if there is such, it has to be from the Inspector General of Police to the Commissioner, we only move to ensure peace following information that some hoodlums were planning to burn the place and some other areas in the state”.
As early as 7am, policemen led by the Commissioner of Police, Musa Daura, arrived the premises of the secretariat, and the two gates leading into the premises were soon manned by armed officers.

Most workers who fled their offices said they were afraid of being attacked by supporters of the factions who may mistake them for opponents.
Speaking via the telephone, the impeached Speaker, Tunji Egbetokun, said his group of G-15 remains intact, but will not be employing any violence. He also said members will soon find a place to convene a meeting.
“We are still much in control, no cause for alarm. The mace, which is the assembly authority is still with us, and we are going to get a conducive place to do our sittings.”
Late yesterday, sources say President Goodluck Jonathan will be meeting with Mr. Egebtokun’s group in Abuja. This may be an indication that members have the ears of the president especially since Gbenga Daniel did not attend the meeting Mr Jonathan held with all the Peoples Democratic Party governors last night.

The new Speaker, Soyemi Coker, said he is unable to say on which specific date his team will start sitting in the assembly, but denied that the mace used for the impeachment belonged to the Abeokuta South local government..
He told journalists shortly after visiting the secretariat of the PDP in Abeokuta with four members of his ‘G-9’ team that the ‘G-15’ lawmakers cannot hold the state to ransom. “I cannot be specific when we are going to start sitting in the house, can you yourself as journalists be specific when you are going to get back to your home? Also it is not correct that we used the mace of the local government, a mace is a mace” he said.
Mr. Coker said the new leadership is grateful to Mr. Daniel who they visited shortly after the impeachment of the former leadership, to inform him of the change of guards.
The Abeokuta South Local Government also denied that its mace was used during the impeachment. The Leader of the councillors, Fatai Adeleke, said, “I want to ask Mr. Egbetokun if Abeokuta South Local Government was inscribed on the mace he claimed belonged to it. Let me also say that the Chairman does not in any way interfere with the affairs of the legislative council, not to talk of having access to the legislative mace.” He said the allegation was a figment of Mr. Egbetokun’s imagination, demanding that he apologises within 12 hours or be sued.
A two time governorship candidate of the National Conscience Party in state, Lanre Banjo, said the manner in which the nine lawmakers impeached the Speaker, using what he called “armed robbery tactics,” should be condemned.
He said, “The first business of the day after entering the premises of the Assembly, like Shina Rambo, was to reinstate the suspended members of the house to swell the numbers of pro-executive members of the house to eleven (11) and to strengthen their quorum for the resolutions they were about to pass. Except that impeachment requires a minimum of 16 members.”
Mr. Banjo appealed to all those he called elders in the state to intervene in the crisis.
France and Uruguay played out a goal-less draw in their opening match in FIFA World Cup's Group A on Friday in the Green Point stadium in front of 64,100 spectators.
France could not break down a stubborn Uruguay defence despite being up against 10 men for the last nine minutes when substitute Nicolas Lodeiro was sent off having only been on the pitch 16 minutes.
The result leaves Group A wide open with hosts South Africa also sharing the points in their opening game with Mexico. They now play Uruguay next Wednesday with France meeting Mexico Thursday.
Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez made just two changes from the side that beat Israel in the country's only warm-up game prior to the World Cup. In came Universidad de Chile's Mauricio Victorino and Penarol midfielder Egidio Arevalo.
The South Americans were relying heavily on the strike partnership of Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez, who scored 53 goals between them last season for Atletico Madrid and Ajax, while France left out their most famous forward.
Thierry Henry was on the bench as Nicolas Anelka lead the line supported by Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery and Lyon's Sidney Govou. Chelsea's Florent Malouda was another notable absentee in Raymond Domenech's starting line-up.
France had the first scoring chance in the seventh minute when Ribery raced away down the left and crossed for Govou who from the edge of the six-yard box failed to steer his effort past Fernando Muslera in the Uruguay goal.
Uruguay were looking to play in Suarez at every opportunity and one long ball to the striker was fumbled by French keeper Hugo Lloris. He appeared to concede a corner as he caught it at the second attempt only for the linesman to award a goal kick.
On 16 minutes Uruguay had their first real chance when Lloris saved from Fifa man-of-the-match Forlan after the striker cut inside Gallas and shot from the edge of the box.
Gourcuff then took a free-kick from the left wing and with everyone expecting a cross the Bordeaux midfielder almost caught out Muslera with a shot that the Uruguay keeper turned over his bar.
On 19 minutes Ribery was booked for pulling back Arevalo. Gourcuff then shot again from distance as France looked in vain for the opener. Diego Lugano's mistake then almost let in Anelka but Diego Godin blocked his shot.
France went close again 14 minutes before the break when Diaby looked to release Govou but Anelka intercepted the pass and was flagged offside.
The offside flag then thwarted Uruguay when Forlan played in Suarez but the Ajax striker was just the wrong side of the last defender.
France had the last chance of the first half when Gourcuff's long free-kick was punched away by Muslera but despite making most of the running the runners-up from Germany 2006 could not break down their well-organised opponents.
Both teams were unchanged at the start of the second half with Forlan having Uruguay's first chance blasting wide under pressure from Gallas.
Bacary Sagna then crossed for Anelka to head wide but France were still being limited to shots from distance with Toulalan testing Muslera again.
On 59 minutes Victorino was booked for bringing down Patrice Evra and from the resulting free-kick Gourcuff squared to Ribery but he sliced his effort well wide.
At the other end Sagny brought down Suarez but Forlan's free-kick did not trouble Lloris. Uruguay made their first change on 64 minutes when Ignacio Gonzales was replaced by Nicolas Lodeiro whose stay was to be a short one.
Lodeiro went into the book almost immediately for a late challenge and he was soon joined by Toulalan for a foul on Pereira. Tempers flared with Uruguay's Lugano seeking out the offending Lyon midfielder who was then spoken to once more by the referee.
With France not looking like making the breakthrough Henry replaced Anelka on 71 minutes and Malouda replaced Gourcuff three minutes later. Still France could not find the breakthrough but they were then given a helping hand by hot-headed Lodeiro.
On 82 minutes he was sent off for a terrible foul on Sagna. The Ajax midfielder had only been on the pitch 16 minutes and had been booked just two minutes after coming on.
Uruguay had just nine minutes to hang on and they managed it surviving one late scare when Henry had a free-kick in a perfect position but wasted the chance with a tame shot.

He is raffling himself. In an e-mail sent to millions of people who supported Hillary Clinton’s White House campaign, the former President asks: “How would you like the chance to come up to New York and spend the day with me?” For those who would like the One-Day-With-Bill prize, an online donation of as little as $5 (£3) will buy them the chance.
By 2007, seven years after leaving the White House, the Clintons had earned a combined $109 million (£73 million) through speaking engagements and bestselling memoirs. Even so, apparently they would prefer American voters to settle Mrs Clinton’s remaining $771,000 debt rather than paying it themselves.
“Hillary’s campaign still has a few vestiges of debt that I know she would like to see paid in full. Will you reach out today to help Hillary this one last time?” Mr Clinton asks. In her marathon battle against Barack Obama Mrs Clinton’s debts peaked at $25.2 million. More than $13 million of that she lent to her own campaign — a huge sum that she will never recoup.

This is the second time in a year that Mr Clinton has offered himself as a lottery prize to whittle down his wife’s debt, something that makes some of their supporters cringe. As Secretary of State she is barred from raising money herself to pay it off.
What further angers some of Mrs Clinton’s backers from her failed Democratic primary campaign is the name of the creditor to whom she owes all the money: Mark Penn, her former pollster and chief strategist.
Mr Penn, a longtime Clinton pollster from the former First Couple’s White House days, followed what is standard practice for political strategists in US campaigns: he took a cut of the money paid by Mrs Clinton’s campaign to his firm to carry out polling and send mailshots to voters..
A total of $24 million from her campaign was paid to Mr Penn’s firm, Penn Schoen Berland, during her failed presidential bid. Much of that was to cover the cost of the company’s services but there is no doubt that the advice and strategy Mr Penn gave — advice that many Democrats believe doomed her campaign — made him millions.
He is blamed, for example, for failing effectively to gauge the public’s desire for change, and for sending out 20 million pieces of direct mail in a campaign in which the internet was so crucial. By the end of 2008, Mrs Clinton’s campaign still owed Mr Penn’s firm $5.4 million. That is now down to $771,000, although the campaign also has nearly $624,000 in the bank.
There are some Clinton supporters who believe that Mr Penn, a divisive figure, should not be paid. The money is not owed to him personally but to his firm, which is a subsidiary of the London-based WPP Group.
Mrs Clinton’s campaign relied heavily on big-money donors, most of whom gave the maximum amount allowed, hence the mass appeal to the small-donor base.

Arsène Wenger has claimed that Arsenal are the only one of the big four on the rise and he showed his determination to retain his best players this summer by declaring that Cesc Fábregas would be misguided to move to Barcelona because the "unwatchable" Spanish league "is in complete disarray".
Arsenal's campaign seems set to conclude, for the fifth year in a row, without a trophy but Wenger maintained that his methods have been vindicated and that, given injuries to key players, the season has been successful, although he also said that Wednesday's defeat in the north London derby left his team with "only hope, not a realistic view" of overtaking the leaders, Chelsea.
"The other night [after defeat by Tottenham] I went home and thought I was stupid because I was hugely disappointed," said Wenger. "But I think overall you try to bring a team as high as they can and this year I have a done a good job [given] what happened to us. Playing in the top three, with all the competition around us, you cannot say the policy hasn't paid off. Yes, you cannot parade in the street with a trophy but you cannot say that what we have done and the way we have achieved it hasn't paid off."
Wenger suggested that, with Manchester United and Liverpool constrained by debt, only a further instance of what he calls "financial doping" can keep Chelsea ahead of Arsenal next season. "We are the most on the up," he said. "The only difference is that tomorrow Abramovich can go out and buy 10 players because he has the financial potential. If Chelsea were run like every other club, he couldn't do it. That's the difference. On the curve we are going up, that is for sure, and they are going down; that is sure as well because they have six or seven players over 30. But Abramovich can just say, 'Today I will buy seven 24-year-old players.'" Asked whether Manchester City were also "on the up", Wenger replied: "They are on a serious cheque book."
Wenger acknowledged that Arsenal are likely to open their own cheque book this summer, admitting the club needs to reinforce its defence. "I don't deny that," said Wenger, "and you could see that again on Wednesday night. It was a game we had to win but we couldn't win, so we're not there but on the other hand we're not far. It is difficult to see whether we need to buy because we were without Gallas, Fábregas, Van Persie and Arshavin. But we need to add something defensively because I believe in the big games we were too vulnerable."
Wenger is keen to persuade William Gallas to sign a new contract when his deal expires in the summer but he refused to countenance breaking the club's rigid wage structure. "We'll always keep our policy," he said. "We manage within our resources."
The player Wenger would be most loth to lose this summer would be the team's chief conductor, Fábregas. This week the 22-year-old has again been linked with a return to Spain, with Barcelona refusing to rule out a bid for a player they nurtured and reports that Real Madrid are preparing an offer. Wenger, however, said the Primera Liga is vastly inferior to thePremier League and any player who moves there would be taking a downward step.
"I watched Real Madrid against Almeria [on Thursday] and turned off after 30 minutes – it was unwatchable," he said. "I can't see anyone who has a competitive edge going to Spain. They have two good teams but the third team is 21 points behind and this week the players threatened to go on strike because they are not paid. It's a league that is in complete disarray. If you are competitive you stay in England, that's where the competition is and that's where the best players want to be."
A northern Mississippi school district will not be hosting a high school prom this spring after a lesbian student sought to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.
The Itawamba County school district's board decided Wednesday to drop the prom because of what it called recent distractions but without specifically mentioning the girl's request, which was backed by the American Civil Liberties Union.
The student, 18-year-old high school senior Constance McMillen, said the cancellation was retaliation for her efforts to bring her girlfriend, also a student, to the April 2 dance.
"A bunch of kids at school are really going to hate me for this, so in a way it's really retaliation," McMillen told The Clarion-Ledger of Jackson. Calls to McMillen by The Associated Press late Wednesday went unanswered.
School policy requires that senior prom dates be of the opposite sex. The ACLU of Mississippi had given the district until Wednesday to change that policy, arguing that banning same-sex prom dates violated McMillen's constitutional rights.
Instead, the school board met and issued a statement announcing it wouldn't host the event at Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, "due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events."
The statement didn't mention McMillen or the ACLU. When asked by The Associated Press if McMillen's demand led to the cancellation, school board attorney Michele Floyd said she could only reference the statement.
"It is our hope that private citizens will organize an event for the juniors and seniors," district officials said in the statement. "However, at this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Itawamba County School District, after taking into consideration the education, safety and well being of our students."
Kristy Bennett, legal director for the ACLU of Mississippi, said the district was trying to avoid the issue.
"But that doesn't take away their legal obligations to treat all the students fairly," Bennett said. "On Constance's behalf, this is unfair to her. All she's trying to do is assert her rights."
Itawamba County is a rural area of about 23,000 people in north Mississippi near the Alabama state line. It's near Pontotoc County, Miss., where more than a decade ago school officials were sued in federal court over their practice of student-led intercom prayer and Bible classes.
Anna Watson, a 17-year-old junior at the high school, was looking forward to the prom, especially since the town's only hotspot is the bowling alley, she said.
"I am a little bummed out about it. I guess it's a decision that had to be made. Either way someone was going to get disappointed — either Constance was or we were," Watson said. "I don't agree with homosexuality, but I can't change what another person thinks or does."
Other students are on McMillen's side.
McKenzie Chaney, 16, said she wasn't planning to attend the prom, but "it's kind of ridiculous that they can't let her wear the tuxedo and it all be over with."
A Feb. 5 memo to students laid out the criteria for bringing a date to the prom, and one requirement was that the person must be of the opposite sex.
The ACLU said McMillen approached school officials shortly before the memo went out because she knew same-sex dates had been banned in the past. The ACLU said district officials told McMillen she and her girlfriend wouldn't be allowed to arrive together, that she would not be allowed to wear a tuxedo, and that she and her girlfriend might be asked to leave if their presence made any other students "uncomfortable."
McMillen said she feared she would be thrown out of the prom because "we do live in the Bible Belt."
