British teen Steven Holmes was initially thrilled when Kanye West chose him to be the first (and so far only) person Kanye would "follow" on Twitter. The student from Coventry, England -- who goes by the Twitter handle "ste_101" -- responded to Kanye's unexpected "follow" by excitedly Tweeting: "Holy *&$% bro thx for following!". Kanye replied: "You are the chosen one dun dun dun dun." But then the phone calls started.
In an exclusive interview with his hometown paper, the Coventry Telegraph, Holmes says he was immediately barraged through Twitter and his phone with requests from media organizations. He says he turned down interviews with the BBC, CNN, and New York Magazine, among others.
Since Saturday night, when the rap star chose to follow him on Twitter, Holmes began receiving messages from people desperate to get West's attention. People tried to send him film trailers and music demos, hoping to reach 33-year-old Kanye and his 400,000-plus followers. "I didn't want to talk to any of them," Holmes told the Telegraph. "Fame has never appealed to me. It's vacuous."
Now Holmes, who says he likes West's music but is "not his biggest fan" wants no part of the fame machine and has for now removed his Twitter application from his mobile phone (though he hasn't gone so far as to delete his account.) "Before this weekend I thought it would be cool to have a celebrity following me on Twitter but now I think it's really not worth it.".
[Flashback: Taylor Swift reacts to Kanye's award show outburst]
On Monday, Holmes announced his semi-retirement decision to his 4,000-plus followers (most of whom no doubt came by way of Kanye's implicit endorsement), Tweeting: "I won't be speaking to anybody else, surprisingly not everyone wants to be famous. That's all I'm saying - peace out x."
The incident calls to mind the brouhaha from earlier this year when Conan O'Brien chose to follow an otherwise-unfamous young woman from Michigan. Sarah Killen, who goes by the Twitter moniker "LovelyButton," now has more than 29,000 followers. The 19-year-old woman reacted to her newfound celebrity more positively than "ste_101" did: she used the spotlight to raise money for breast-cancer research.
Kanye has been showing a lot of love to Twitter lately: last week he visited the social-networking giant's headquarters to serenade its employees:
While some of these girls are undergraduates in various higher institutions of learning in the country, others are just trying to make ends meet.
.
Some of these white men are in Nigeria for greener pastures while others are called upon by companies operating in the country to take up jobs because of their technical know-how.
The girls often meet these men, a term used to describe Europeans, White Americans and Asians, in places like night clubs, bars, shopping malls and parties.
One of the girls, Osagie Ruth, confirmed that Nigerian girls prefer white men because they spend money without thinking twice. He also said they were more romantic.
Citing an instance, Ruth, who is excited about having white men as lovers, said she has vowed never to date any black man until when she is ready for marriage.
According to her, this vow became necessary after experiencing several heartbreaks with Nigerian men.
“Can you believe that the last one I dated was a married man with three kids? He never told me he was married until I almost got lynched by his wife who saw us while we were in the heat of passion in his supposed house.
“I would have been dead by now. The worst part of it was that he hardly gave me money for my upkeep and he monitored my daily activities as if I was in prison custody, yet I stayed in the relationship as I needed a man desperately,” she explained.
She said she was introduced into the “business” by a friend and since then she has “been living in the sweetest world.
“I now have a Honda car and a well furnished apartment.”
Another girl, who maintained anonymity said she prefers dating white men because “they are more understanding and they give us freedom to do a lot of things compared to their Nigerian counterparts.”
She said she could date other men and engage in other ventures that would fetch her money without the prying eyes of her white guys. But that is not the case with the Nigerian men, who she described as greedy and crooked in their love life.
“They prefer hiding you somewhere and doing it only in secret places with you for fear of being recognised by other people.
“But the white men are always proud to move around with you openly. They are proud of what they have even if we are only with them for money.”
Asked why she loves dating only white men, Philomena Okeke, an undergraduate, retorted: “Why I no go date them? Even if they look like albinos, it is a matter of closing my eyes when we are having fun. I begin to think of black people when it is happening.
“Though I hate them, I need their money. I have also had many heartbreaks from Nigerian men and I decided to give the whites a try. I have no regrets so far.”
P.M.NEWS also gathered from the girls that not all the white men are nice. The ones from Asian countries, India and Lebanon do not like to spend. According to some of the girls, men from these areas prefer paying peanuts after satisfying themselves.
“When dealing with people from these areas, we collect our money first. I am not an animashaun (meaning free giver in Yoruba)” one of the girls, who was seen hanging out with a white man in an eatery told P.M. NEWS.
However, some of the white men are said to be so happy with the ladies that they could go as far as buying houses and cars for them and sending them on vacation abroad.
Ijeoma, a 28-year old lady, who now has two kids for a white man residing in the country, agreed that the reasons for the preference varied.
According to her, “one thing that a black girl sees in a white guy is money in this part of the world because of poverty.
“For others, they want to be seen that they are powerful girls that can trap a white guy. Others want to have a white baby, get married and have security.
“Sometimes, a white guy in Africa might be having a hard time and the next thing on his mind is to go out and bang just any girl. You will find such guys mostly around bars, clubs, etc.
“Now, the girl in return wants a guy to sell her body too and get some few change and they talk, arrange to meet and he takes her to his place and they have sex. He pays her off and other times, there is a huge argument, the girl wants more money probably because she knows she will never see him again and instead of taking N5,000 she will demand for N50,000.
“These white guys also get better pay and remember, they are expatriates, and while their families are abroad, they need to have fun and they discovered that there are loads of loose girls here.
“The second type of girls that go for white guys want to be perceived as powerful, big girls. They travel with the white men, live high class life and have a good sex life. You see these girls driving powerful cars and living in high brow areas of the city.”

OPEN LETTER TO DORA AKUNYILI by Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne On behalf of Dora Akunyili's Late Eldest Sister's Family
Dear Aunty Dora,
1. I write you this letter as your first nephew and first son of your late sister. I write you on behalf of our family―the family of your late eldest sister. I write with deep sorrow and pain in my heart. I have chosen this medium because it seems to be the only medium you enjoy and especially since you decided to politicize the death of my mother through the mass media. You are the Minister of Information and Communication and in control of Government owned media. You have really demonstrated to us and all Nigerians how much powers you have by mobilizing all Government media to fight your private family battles. You know I have always cared for and respected you and all my aunties and uncles. This letter is out of care and concern for you Aunty. You may not appreciate it now but I am sure that in a few years time, it will all make sense. The goal of this letter is to remind you of our mortality in this world, and to beg of you to please let my mother truly rest in peace!
2. You would recall Aunty that when you were lobbying for the NAFDAC position, you asked my late mother and all of us to go on fasting and prayers and that if God answered our prayers, the family would never be the same again. It is up to you, Aunty, to assess whether in the last 10 years you have been in public service the family has seen more pain or gain. I now agree that power corrupts. But Aunty take it easy because as the late Azikiwe once reminded everyone, ‘no condition is permanent’! Life is a stage, and all positions remain temporal and ephemeral. In the end, you will still need this family, and you may not know exactly when or how!
3. Your tribute to my late mother attests to the fact that she literally brought you up, and was the matriarch of your family since your parents died early. But over the last several years, you brought so much pain and sorrow that she regretted having you as a sister. Her unanswered question remained: "what did I do to Dorothy?" Only you can answer that question! It speaks volumes that your eldest sister who doubled as your mother was sick for about six months and even flown abroad for six weeks and you did not know. Of course, if you were in talking terms with her or if you ever called her on phone, you would have known. Whatever may be your reasons for your behaviour towards her, it baffles us that you have no compassion even to the dead. Your conduct before, during and after the burial/funeral ceremonies gave the impression that you were bent on disrupting the ceremonies for reasons best known to you. In the attempts, caution was thrown to the winds and perhaps you may not be aware that you committed several abominations in the process.
(a) First and without consultation with our family, you left your hometown (Nanka) and came to set up a parallel, rival funeral site next to our compound (contrary to custom and tradition). When I noticed this abominable arrangement two weeks to the burial, I politely begged and explained to Uncle Anayo (your younger brother who came to make the arrangement) that it was not proper. We thought it was settled. My family was shocked to notice in the early hours of the burial day, that you adamantly went ahead to set up a tent beside our family house as your own funeral site. It took the intervention of our kindred, the traditional ruler, and the police to convince your occupation force to relocate to your home town Nanka as the tradition demanded. Of course, the soldiers and police you brought to enforce your wish brutalized several members of my kindred who protested the abomination. Aunty, our hearts bled. Is this the use of power which you asked us to fast and pray for? You know best the reasons for your strained relationship with my mother, and even at her death, you brought truck loads of soldiers and police to harass and beat up innocent people who came to mourn her death. We did not find this act funny, Aunty. Now that my mother has died, are you now on a mission to also conquer her family?
(b) Why did you not allow your immediate elder brother, Uncle Joseph, who is the first son of your parents, to be part of your delegation to the burial/funeral? By tradition, he was expected to lead the delegation of our Uncles and aunties. We were shocked when you stood in the Alter of God and publicly announced that your more successful younger brother, Uncle Anayo, was the head of the Edemobi family. Is Uncle Joe dead? Some of us can only hazard a guess as to the reasons. But Aunty, to deny him the opportunity to see the corpse of his eldest sister and also publicly deny him his birthright as the head of the Edemobi family (on tape) is an abomination! It pained us that Uncle Joe was not allowed to see his sister’s corpse and pay his last respects. Dear Aunty, there will be life after Government!
(c) Again, Aunty, why would you bribe the Umuada Nanka (paid each N5000) so that they won’t perform their last rites to my mother? On the morning of Saturday, July 17, we sent a bus to bring the leadership of Umuada as we were directed but were told that you asked them not to come. Must you go this far Aunty? Well, we are happy that we fulfilled all the requirements as demanded by your people and the Umuada, as required by custom and tradition, including the cow, etc. By tradition, you and the Umuada are now the ones owing my mother! Money, they say, is the root of all evils. With money, Aunty, you have created a crisis among the Umuada. Many of them have called us to complain that you have goaded them into committing an abomination by not giving my mother her right, and are now demanding a date from us so that they can shed the burden. We leave you and the Umuada to your conscience, to God, and the spirit of my mother!
(d) We heard you were complaining that the corpse of my mother was not brought to you at Nanka before the burial. Very funny, isn’t it, Aunty? Remember this was the woman you had not spoken to in over a year. How many times in the last five years did my mother enter that compound? Why would she do so only as a corpse? By the way, when did it become the custom and tradition of Nanka that a married daughter of Nanka would never be buried unless and until the corpse has been taken to her father’s compound in Nanka? Aunty, I am sure you know enough that taking of corpses to the deceased’s father’s home is simply a gesture of goodwill (especially when the corpse has been put in a mortuary, where it is convenient to do so, and where existing relationship is cordial) and never a requirement by custom and tradition in Nanka or even the environs. What if she was married in Calabar and the survivors had no money to even put the corpse in the mortuary?
Finally, everyone of the over ten thousand people who attended the two day events attested that it was a funeral to be remembered for years for its huge success. While everyone was praising us and our inlaws for giving our mother a historic burial, you went ahead to call a press conference to give bad publicity to the events. Well, he who has decided to dance unclothed in the market place must not blame the children for taking a glance at his nudity. I will refrain from commenting on that press conference and your spurious allegations therein. We were all shocked that you could boldly fabricate such stories about thugs and tell the whole world. My mother must be perplexed anywhere she is about your conduct and how you are paying back her family for all she did for you. Think about this Aunty, you could not devote one minute of network news to announce the death of your eldest sister but devoted minutes of airtime in all TV stations including the NTA network news, radio, and the print media to run your obviously self-serving advertisements to ensure that the burial had a bad press. It is well!.
4. My last word, Aunty, is that you should take it easy. Please watch it Aunty because, aside from the choruses and trumpets that go with power, the ship may be getting empty by the day. Always remember, we all love you. We earnestly pray that you will still come to the reality that aside from God, your most important possession is family! We are still observing the 40 days of mourning, but I will not forget to send our belated happy birthday wishes. We will continue to pray for you, Aunty!
With all best wishes,
Your nephew,
Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne
THE battered wife of the deposed Deji of Akure, Olori Bolanle Adepoju Adesina, Monday sought forgiveness for her banished husband, Oba Adepoju Adesina.
She particularly urged the Ondo State Government and the Akure community to rescind their decision to sack the former monarch.
Adesina was dethroned about two months ago by the government for allegedly assaulting Olori Bolanle in public.
He is presently banished from Akure.
Olori Bolanle addressed reporters after the end of a reconciliatory meeting held by heads of her family and those of the Adepoju Adesina royal family.
She said: "At the end of the crucial meeting, family of the Deji withdrew the controversial statement which disowned my children as potential members of Adesina royal family."
She urged traditional rulers to help her appeal to the government to rescind its decision on the deposed monarch..
Bolanle said: "I also impress it on my colleague oloris in the state to support my pleading to Akure kingmakers, eminent Akure indigenes, youths, indigenes of the state and Akure people in the Diaspora."
In a letter of apology to the Olori’s family in Owo, the Adepoju Adesina royal family appealed to the head of the family, Chief Akinola Fadeyi, for forgiveness.
It urged the family to disregard the statement on alleged infidelity and doubtful paternity of the two princes whom Olori Bolanle has for the deposed Akure monarch.
It said: "Our family, like yours, is rather disturbed by the undue publicity and political manipulations to which this ordinary matrimonial matter has been subjected."
The statement was jointly signed by Cheif Abisoye Adesina, Prince Ibukun Adepoju Adesina and Princess Bobola Adepoju Adesina.
It said the report credited to the former monarch was made in the heat of passion based on the prevailing circumstances at that time.
The family said the two children are their authentic children and not bastards.

"The first thing is go see a doctor, be checked to make sure you are medically alright."
After several years of spreading a virus throughout the male gender, a prostitute has been captured, but the damage has been done as there are fears that 100s of men have been infected.
With a schedule of two clients a day, four days a week for several years, Nigaila Gibbs, 20, whom knowingly is HIV+, has left many in question to whether or not they have contracted it and are now positive.
Under the belief that many men have had sexual contact with the woman, her photo has been released serving as a heads up for those residing in St. Louis County, Missouri that a medical examination might be smart right about now.
Gibbs has been charged with prostitution while knowingly infected with HIV, which is a felony.
Check the story below.
Thousands ofCatholic faithfuls and onlookers yesterday thronged the St PaulCatholic Church, located along the busy Airport Road in Benin City toview the appearance of a strange image believed to be that of JesusChrist in a "Monstrance" at the church's sanctuary.
The massive crowd halted vehicular traffic on the road for several hours, causing discomfort for travellers and road users.
When the reporter found his way into the main auditorium of the church, a faint imagecould still be observed on a gold plated circular object on the alterplaced on a table, with two linings of coloured lighting on both sidesof the gold plated object.
It was a tough job trying to get information from members of the church as they describedthe "mysterious appearance" as a spiritual happening. They alsohelpfully added that it may be difficult for a layman and non-Catholicto decipher.
A worker in the church's sanctuary said the image was an "expression of the blessedsacrament, but when sacrament is exposed, we usually see the whitebackground in the gold plated object placed on the alter. But sinceyesterday afternoon (Wednesday), we have been seeing Jesus' form in thebackground which is supposed to be white and it has been there tillnow, but it is beginning to go faint now." The assistant priest of thechurch, Chima Okosisi refused to make any official pronouncement on thesighting. "This is a strange development here, unusual here, similarthings have happened before in other places, we revered it," he said.
Hour of mercy
A member of the church, Bernedette Idalo said the image appeared at about 3 pm onWednesday, which she said was the hour of divine mercy; the exact timeJesus was said to have died when he was crucified. She however, saidthat it was totally strange to the church as similar images haveappeared on the wall and other places before now.
"This apparition can stay for days and weeks, it is meant to strengthen our faith. Awoman was in a trance when the thing happened and she said our Lordsaid we should praise Him more," she said.
As at the time of filing this report, hundreds of persons were still waiting at the church while some were praying to see if a bolderimage of Jesus would appear later.
A policeman attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Borno State police headquarters in Maiduguri has allegedly impregnated a 24-year-old homicide suspect, Halima Abdu, while being detained in cell at the CID wing for investigations before her prosecution in court.
Daily Trust confirmed yesterday that the suspected policeman, whose name was only given as Abubakar from Biu Local Government Area, has since been arrested and detained by his colleagues after the Nigerian Prisons Service wrote to the state Commissioner of Police informing him that a suspect was confirmed to be pregnant while she was to be admitted into the maximum security prison in Maiduguri and on investigations, she said she was impregnated by a policeman.
The Fulani woman was brought to the CID where she identified the man and he was promptly detained by his colleagues with investigations still on, police sources said. The woman became pregnant sometime in January 2010. She was arrested and detained since 2009, shortly after she was accused of killing her three-day old baby boy whom she dumped in a public well at Balbaya village in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno State in June 2009.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Isa Azare, didn’t answer phone calls yesterday for comments and wasn’t traced but a source at the command said investigations were going on which may require a DNA test after the woman delivers next month, September- expectedly, to ascertain the paternity of the child.
Now about eight months pregnant, Halima told Daily Trust that she was impregnated by the police officer after she was transferred from Bayo Police Division to the CID. She said he lured her into having sex with him.
“He said he was going to help set me free if I agreed to have sex with him and we had sex right there inside the cell where I was kept. But after that, he failed to keep his promise. I did what I did to regain my freedom,” she said.
Daily Trust found out from prison sources that the pregnancy was discovered based on the suspicion of a female prison warden at the Admissions Board (a department within the prisons that is saddled with the responsibility of ascertaining conditions of new inmates and disclosing to them their rights).
A pregnancy test was conducted in March, 2010 and the woman was confirmed to be 12 weeks pregnant as at then. Halima had told Daily Trust that she was married to one Haruna Buba and lived at Unguwan Mai Ruwa in Jalingo, Taraba State, but was sent packing by her husband without a divorce letter while she was already pregnant for him.
Despite court intervention, he refused to divorce her, forcing her to go back in search of her parents who were until then resident at Juniji village in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno State.
She said she couldn’t locate her parents and on June 15, 2009, she was accommodated by one Hafsat, a house wife. “In the afternoon of June 17, 2009, I gave birth to a baby boy and decided to move with the baby,” she said.
She said in the evening of June 19, 2009, she stopped over at Balbaya village in Bayo and out of frustration and annoyance with how her husband treated her, and having nowhere to go or whom to turn to, she confessed, “I decided to drop the baby boy into a well.”
Daily Trust gathered that one Malam Bello Ali (Agambe) Chairman of water vendors at Balbaya was said to have sighted the body of the baby boy and rushed to report his discovery to the village head, Lawan Ali Muhammadu, who in turn reported the matter to the Balbaya police outpost. The case is to continue on August 11, 2010.

We shall update you as event unfolds.
Mrs. Iyabo Bakare had looked forward to August 2, 2010, the day her daughter, Fausat, was to write her Post-University Matriculation Examination with high hope. Her hope was hinged on her belief that Fausat would get admission into the university where she intended to read Accountancy. Although the incident occurred on May 31, as sympathisers came to visit Iyabo on Monday, the visit triggered the emotion that was witnessed on the night Fausat died. Most of the sympathisers said the death of Iyabo, who would have been 19 by December, was avoidable. Fausat, fondly called Mama, was electrocuted on the premises of 1, Adebiyi Close, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, shortly after returning from the church. An eyewitness, who did not want her name mentioned, told PUNCH METRO that Fausat was electrocuted by illegally connected electricity under a TV antennae pole by one of the occupants of the building said to be illegal structure. She said, “That day, rain fell heavily and everywhere was flooded. As Fausat was wading through the flood, the underground live cable shocked her. Unknown to her, she held on to the TV pole to support herself, and she was flung into the flood with such a terrific force. “Before neighbours could rescue her, she had given up the ghost. When she was eventually rushed to a hospital (Noble Hospital, Olonode), a doctor confirmed she had died before getting to the hospital.” The eyewitness said the incident angered the neighbours, who pounced on the apartment and vandalised it. One of the occupants of the building, who was accused of the illegal electricity connection (name withheld), reportedly went to the police station to lodge a complaint that the property was vandalised. ”When the police came and found out true situation of things, they had to detain the suspect for illegal connection of electricity,” she said. Speaking amid tears, Iyabo said Fausat‘s demise dealt a devastating blow to the family. She corroborated the eyewitness‘ account and added that on the fateful day, the deceased with her other siblings, having returned from church, said they wanted to eat bread and tea. She said Fausat went in company with other children in the neighbourhood to buy the items. She recalled that as they were wading through the flood, she almost fell and had to ignorantly hold on to the antennae pole to support herself, not knowing that there was a live-wire running under the pole. She said, ”As my daughter and those who accompanied her to buy the items were wading through the flood, she held to the pole for support and was immediately electrocuted. ”Ordinarily, people would think that the pole was just a TV antennae, but this was not so. There was an underground wire, which had been illegally connected. I think the man put the antennae probably to deceive the officials of the PHCN.” Narrating the qualities of Fausat, Iyabo said she was beautiful, brilliant, intelligent, hard working and respectful, adding that the family had lost a jewel of an inestimable value. She appealed to the Lagos State Government and the Yaba Local Council Development Area not to allow her daughter die in vain, saying that she wanted the illegal structure to be demolished and the underground cable removed so that other innocent people would not fall victims again. When our correspondent visited the scene of electrocution, he observed that the entire building had been deserted. Also, the underground cable had been removed, while the alleged culprit was said to have bolted. It was also observed that a sealing notice had been pasted on the building from a Customary Court in Yaba indicating that the building would be demolished soon. | |||
J.O.J Okoloagu, a retired general was ambushed by a gang of armed kidnappers at the Alaoji area of Aba on his way to Port Harcourt in the company of his orderly and the driver.
Mr Okoloagu narrated his ordeal at a hospital where he is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds he sustained during the attack. He said the kidnappers blocked his vehicle and started firing into the air while one of them demobilised his vehicle by blasting the four tyres. One of the kidnappers then tried to drag him out of his car not knowing that he was a soldier.
“He thought I was a civilian and immediately he let his hands off the trigger, I pumped the whole six rounds into his chest,” he said.
Mr Okoloagu said, in retaliation, the kidnappers shot and wounded him along with his orderly - the orderly was shot in the hand. But sensing that their mission had been jeopardised with one of them down, Mr Okoloagu said they fled, after commandeering a vehicle with which they took their slain colleague away..
He added that he managed to escape into the bush with his orderly in the confusion that followed but regretted that his driver was critically wounded and is now in coma at a hospital.
Mr Okoloagu also called on the federal government to get soldiers involved in efforts aimed at checking the insecurity by rehabilitating abandoned army barracks in the South-East zone. When contacted, Ali Okechukwu, the Abia State Police command Public Relations Officer said he can not immediately confirm the incident.
The plot of the nation's political drama thickens as President Goodluck Jonathan plans to reshuffle his cabinet next week, said sources privy to the decision.
Photo:L-R Head of Civil Service, Steve Oronsaye,Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed, Vice President Namadi Sambo and President Goodluck Jonathan at the Federal Executive Council Meeting in Abuja, yesterday
As politicians in the last few weeks focused on zoning and its attendant problems or benefits, Mr. Jonathan, who political watchers say never ceases to surprise, was doggedly entrenching his hold on the nation's polity.
A few days back, he forwarded the names of three nominees to the Senate for approval as new ministers. It was not immediately clear, however, who the new people will replace. The Senate has acknowledged the receipt of the nominees and decided to reconvene Tuesday next week to screen, and possibly confirm them.
Although the Senate would not reveal the identities of the nominees, it was confirmed that the candidates, two men, and a woman, are from Yobe, Delta, and Borno states. A source further confirmed that one of them is a member of an opposition party, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
Curiously, Mr. Jonathan's action is coming nine months to the end of his administration and he still refuses to confirm if he will be contesting in next year's presidential election or not. Former president Olusegun Obasanjo also effected such a cabinet reshuffle towards the end of his second term in 2006 when he re-assigned Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from ministry of finance to foreign affairs.
The usual suspects
Sources confirmed that the proposed changes will most likely affect the finance minister, Olusegun Aganga and the minister of state for finance, Remi Babalola. It was unclear if Mr Babalola's statement last month that the state oil company, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was broke led to his been considered for possible removal. Mr. Babalola had told a group of journalists during a workshop on "Understanding the operations of the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria" organised by the NNPC for members of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), that the only reason the corporation has not paid the ₦450 billion debt owed to the federal government was "its cash flow problem." He reportedly lost favour with Mr. Jonathan after that statement.
At the federal executive council meeting that took place after Mr. Babalola's comment, the council denied, through Dora Akunyili, the Information minister, that NNPC was insolvent.
"NNPC, from the auditor's account, is a going concern, and does not have solvency issue as a corporation. Therefore, categorically, NNPC is not insolvent," Mrs. Akunyili said.
She added that there will always be an outstanding balance between the federal government and the oil giant because of the regular transactions between them.
One of the nominees is supposed to fill the vacancy in the power ministry which had no substantive minister, apart from the junior minister. The others are expected to fill the junior minister positions in the petroleum and foreign affairs ministries.
Although the cabinet reshuffle was not mentioned during the briefing that followed the federal executive council meeting yesterday, the Presidency is said to be awaiting the senate's endorsement of the nominees whose names are currently en route to the national assembly.
