Fake leaders,Fake Schools will breed Fakes !

Last Monday uproar along Keffi- Akwaga Road, Nasarawa state, got residents of the area wondering what the problem was, as members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) fled in different directions.

Decency was thrown to the dust as some of them reportedly fled half unclothed and bare footed, jumping into any available means of transportation, from a camp located about a kilometre behind a police post, which is used as orientation of the NYSC members.

In their confused states, most of them fled, leaving their property at the mercy of the invaders who were later discovered to be officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC). However, some of the unlucky ones were whisked away in the NSCDC vehicle.

Not too long, reason for the invasion was discovered to be that the orientation camp which has been in existence for some time was illegal. Other startling revelations about the clamp down according to spokesman for the NSCDC, Mr Okeh Emmanuel, revealed that some of the corps members were students from different higher institutions of learning who did not graduate owing to problems associated with carry over courses. Others, according to Emmanuel, were students of satellite campuses, Distance learning programmes and Part time study centres, who are not permitted to partake in the compulsory one year youth service.

Preliminary investigation according to Emmanuel, revealed that a syndicate which key members are on the run, instituted the fake orientation camp. This, they succeeded in doing with the alleged connivance of some key members of the NYSC headquarters, Abuja.

Emmanuel stated further that preliminary investigation also revealed that a total number of three hundred fake Corp members went through the compulsory one month orientation at the camp and were awaiting deployment to their respective areas of primary assignment which was to take place on Tuesday 27th July, 2010, when luck ran against them.

Astonished at the discovery, Emmanuel hinted: “As an organized crime, the whole exercise is a syndicate thing made up of a cartel all over the country with agents both in the tertiary Institutions, NYSC Office and so on.

“Investigation so far revealed that the Agent at the South-East in whose account money was deposited by one of the victims as indicated in the teller, is called Chinedu Ogene Uchendu while that of South-South axis is called Osita, and Steve Agabi, a staff of University of Jos coordinated the axis. From the arrested persons’ statement, there is a link between the coordinators and staff of NYSC headquarter, Abuja, where one Mr. Abraham was mentioned”.

A total of sixty-nine fake corps members according to him were arrested. Among them was a nursing mother who reportedly came to the camp with her child. During interrogation, Emmanuel said the arrested fake corps members confessed to have paid as much as N70,000 to N150,000 to their agents , in order to take part in the compulsory one year service at the end of which they would be issued NYSC discharge certificates. They were said to have also confessed that the gentle man agreement did not include their benefitting from the Federal government monthly allowance.

NYSC and NSCDC on manhunt for collaborators

Expressing shock at the dexterity with which the cartel operates, Emmanuel said, “As at the time of parading the fake Corpers before members of the press by the Deputy Commandant General, Operations, Mr.Evans Ewurum, the representative of NYSC Director General Dr. John Abuluera, Director of Procurement attested to the fact that insinuation and suspicion about the influx of fake Corps members have been on air and as a matter of fact that the DG had set in motion all necessary machinery to track down suspects.

“The Director of Mobilisation, Mrs Michala stressed that the agency with the aid of the DG will not relent in their pursuit of purging the system of fake corps members, as well as hunting for personnel that are likely to be involved in this type of heinous crime. She also assured that they would not only lose their job but face prosecution in line with the law of the land”

The collaboration with the various security agencies of government according to him was what lead to the arrest by Civil Defense Officers, adding that the arrest would serve as deterrent to others.

The arrested corps members as gathered, were immediately charged to an upper Area Court, Keffi for further prosecution.

A North Carolina woman is alleging that "American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino engaged in an affair with her husband, and says in court documents that the pair "recorded" their sexual encounters.
Paula Cook, who separated from her husband, Antwaun Cook, in June, filed the documents -- seeking child custody, alimony and other monetary support -- Wednesday in Mecklenburg County District Court.
The documents allege Antwaun Cook began the affair with Barrino, 26, in August 2009 after the pair met at a Charlotte-area T-Mobile store where Cook is employed.
Barrino -- the 2004 winner of the popular Fox show and an eight-time Grammy nominee -- treated Cook to a lavish lifestyle over the course of their affair, flying him to Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida; New York; Los Angeles, California; and Barbados, the documents allege.
The pair "have at times recorded their illicit sexual activity," according to the documents.
A month after Paula Cook separated from her husband, Barrino is alleged to have interrupted a phone conversation between the estranged couple, telling Cook, "He don't want you. Maybe the next time you get a husband you'll know how to keep him. That's why he is here with me," according to the documents.
Barrino has appeared publicly with a tattoo on her left shoulder reading "Cook," an apparent tribute to Antwaun Cook, who is said to have a similar tattoo in the same place on his shoulder, according to the documents.
The alleged affair was first reported in November by gossip magazines and websites.
Barrino and her record label Sony Music declined to comment on the documents Sunday.
Paula Cook says that as a result of the affair, her husband became more and more withdrawn from their marriage, attributing late nights and other absences to work, the documents say.
"As [Paula Cook] contemplated ways to save her marriage and family, [Antwaun Cook] and Ms. Barrino continued to enjoy their open and notorious relationship without her knowledge and/or consent," the documents say.
Paula Cook is seeking custody of her two children, ages 6 and 2, with Antwaun Cook, as well as child support, alimony, attorney's fees and ownership of the couple's former marital home..

Swazi minister quits over allegation of royal affair

Swazi justice minister Ndumiso Mamba, the right-hand-man of King Mswati III, has resigned, the government said on Thursday, after a dissident group said he had an affair with one of the absolute King’s wives.

The dissident group, Swaziland Solidarity Network, said last week that Mamba had been having an affair with 23-year-old Inkhosikati LaDube, one of Mswati’s 14 wives, and was netted in a police sting at a luxury hotel owned by Mswati.

“There is a story that has gone far which is currently being circulated ...The story touches on the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ndumiso Mamba,” Prime Minister Banarbas Sibusiso Dlamini told a news briefing.

“Mamba had opted to resign as both Senator and Minister of Justice ...to allow the matter to be considered by the appropriate authorities,” he said.

Dlamini did not give any details of the case or accept questions on the subject.

Mswati - who was on a two-week official visit to Taiwan when the story broke - is frequently criticised by human rights groups as a dictator who runs the country of a million people as his own personal fiefdom.

Sandwiched between South Africa and Mozambique, Swaziland won independence from Britain in 1968 but has been without a constitution since 1973. Political parties are banned and the king appoints the government.

"I’ve confessed God’s word. I’ve sown seeds. I’ve fasted. I’ve prayed. I’ve done everything! Why hasn’t my situation changed? Oh God, why?!!"

Many people are agonized like this over seeming inability to change their situation. Yet, in Matthew 17:20, Jesus made this statement clear. He said “When you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, nothing shall be impossible unto you. So, why do many of God’s people pray, fast, cry, sow seeds, confess Scriptures and still experience frustrations and even tragedies in their finances, health, jobs, marriages and business. Why do they always end up questioning, “Oh God, why?”

Many who find themselves asking this kind of question or who find themselves in such situations have one major problem: They haven’t learnt how to make their faith work.

Apart from their ignorance of how to put their faith to work, some Christians find their faith coming under attack and weakened by adverse circumstances. Like Peter, they take their eyes off the Word and gaze in fear at the boisterous winds and billowing waves; they eventually begin to sink when they should actually be walking on the water.

It is at such times of adversity that some take their eyes off God’s Word. They neglect their faith, allowing it to be stifled and rendered ineffective by circumstances which the same faith should have dominated. Any child of God can rise above any situation, time and time again, if he’d only learn how to make his faith work.

You need to know how you can receive everything that rightly belongs to you in Christ, and live the glorious, victorious, successful, joyous and prosperous life God has called you into. It’s very important that we have a clear understanding of what faith is. Faith is defined as the substance of things hoped for. If you have hope for anything, faith is what gives it substance. Faith gives you every reason to affirm something is yours before you see it with your physical eyes. Why? Faith is the substance of things hoped for; it calls real those things that are not physically observable. It calls them done NOW! Faith is the response of the human spirit to the Word of God.

Let me quickly point out here that there’s a difference between faith and believing. Faith is the corresponding action to what you believe. For the one who is sick, when he hears the Word that says “By whose stripes ye were healed” and believes it, his response or corresponding action to that Word will be to begin to declare “By the stripes of Jesus, I was healed!” He should start acting as one who’s been healed and as a result, begin to do the things he couldn’t do hitherto, due to that sickness. Now, when he declares that he is the healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ, his declaration is not based on his feelings, but on the word of God that says he was healed. For faith to be faith and not just believing, it’s got to have some action to it.

You Can't Please God without Faith
The bible unequivocally states that “without faith it is impossible to please him (God).” It didn’t say “without love” or “without prayer” or “without holiness;” neither did it say “without righteousness.” I’m not saying these aren’t important, for the Word of God lets us know they all are. What I’m saying is, it’ll take faith to activate and appropriate these and many more blessing that are in the Word of God to your life.

Some have tried religiously all their lives to be holy, to walk in love or to pray, yet they couldn’t please God because they haven’t learnt to walk by faith. It’s impossible to walk in any of these successfully without faith. You’re not expected to pray yourself into faith. How else would you be able to pray to the God you don’t see? How do you know He’s really up there listening to you? It’s got to be by faith! So, you see, you do have faith. You believe the Bible is the Word of God and you study it, but you weren’t there when it was written. You simply have faith that it’s really God’s word. That’s where it all begins. Faith is fundamental; it’s the foundation, for without faith you can’t even be born again. It takes faith to come to God.

Everything in the kingdom of God functions by the principle of faith. That’s why the Bible says the just shall live by faith. It didn’t say the just shall live by holiness or righteousness, but by faith. This shows just how important faith is and why the ‘faith-message’ should be taken very seriously by anyone who desires to live a successful life in God’s kingdom.

Without faith, you wouldn’t function well on your job, in your business, family, academics, finances, health or ministry. You can’t even keep the devil under your feet where he belongs without faith! It takes faith not to wish evil for those who hate, mistreat and misjudge you. You can only walk in love and live peaceably among all men as the Bible instructs to do by faith. You see, the faith way is the way, the only way for the Christian.

British teen Steven Holmes was initially thrilled when Kanye West chose him to be the first (and so far only) person Kanye would "follow" on Twitter. The student from Coventry, England -- who goes by the Twitter handle "ste_101" -- responded to Kanye's unexpected "follow" by excitedly Tweeting: "Holy *&$% bro thx for following!". Kanye replied: "You are the chosen one dun dun dun dun." But then the phone calls started.

In an exclusive interview with his hometown paper, the Coventry Telegraph, Holmes says he was immediately barraged through Twitter and his phone with requests from media organizations. He says he turned down interviews with the BBC, CNN, and New York Magazine, among others.

Since Saturday night, when the rap star chose to follow him on Twitter, Holmes began receiving messages from people desperate to get West's attention. People tried to send him film trailers and music demos, hoping to reach 33-year-old Kanye and his 400,000-plus followers. "I didn't want to talk to any of them," Holmes told the Telegraph. "Fame has never appealed to me. It's vacuous."

Now Holmes, who says he likes West's music but is "not his biggest fan" wants no part of the fame machine and has for now removed his Twitter application from his mobile phone (though he hasn't gone so far as to delete his account.) "Before this weekend I thought it would be cool to have a celebrity following me on Twitter but now I think it's really not worth it.".

[Flashback: Taylor Swift reacts to Kanye's award show outburst]

On Monday, Holmes announced his semi-retirement decision to his 4,000-plus followers (most of whom no doubt came by way of Kanye's implicit endorsement), Tweeting: "I won't be speaking to anybody else, surprisingly not everyone wants to be famous. That's all I'm saying - peace out x."

The incident calls to mind the brouhaha from earlier this year when Conan O'Brien chose to follow an otherwise-unfamous young woman from Michigan. Sarah Killen, who goes by the Twitter moniker "LovelyButton," now has more than 29,000 followers. The 19-year-old woman reacted to her newfound celebrity more positively than "ste_101" did: she used the spotlight to raise money for breast-cancer research.

Kanye has been showing a lot of love to Twitter lately: last week he visited the social-networking giant's headquarters to serenade its employees:

2Face builds hotel in Abuja

Multi talented superstar, Innocent Ujar Idibia, a.k.a 2face Idibia is reportedly building a hotel in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Sources have it that it is one of the biggest projects he is working on at the moment.

According to a close associate of Idibia who does not want his name mentioned, the hotel in question is currently gulping millions of naira. He said further that the whole idea of owning a hotel started when 2face held his 10th anniversary celebration in Abuja. He got a land gift from one of his numerous admirers and after making consultations with close friends, he decided to erect a hotel on the parcel of land. Our source couldn’t reveal further the state of the hotel now because he has not been there in a while./

One may have no cause to doubt this privileged information because Idibia himself loves properties to a fault. Aside the properties he has invested in including one he is currently staying in Festac Town, Lagos, it was alleged at a point that he got a house gift in Abuja from former Presidential aspirant, Rochas Okorocha.

Rhythms & Sounds put a word to 2face’s managers but they denied knowledge of the hotel. 2Face himself is yet to return to the country after his performance with Mario in London on July 30, 2010.

Obasanjo, grandfather of corruption – Reps
By Alexandra Mede, Rotimi Akinwumi and Sola Shittu, Abuja

Federal lawmakers reacted angrily to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday, calling him the grandfather of corruption, in a tit-for-tat over his allegation that members of the hallowed legislature brim with sleaze, greed, and graft, milking the country dry, and doing little to justify their fat allowances.

House of Representatives Minority Leader, Ali Ndume, insisted that Obasanjo lacks the moral right to pronounce them corrupt because he instituted corruption in Nigeria.

Ndume, in his address to mark the end of the 2009/2010 legislative year, said the minority parties in the House also knock President Goodluck Jonathan for failing to provide good leadership..

He asked Jonathan to concentrate on governance rather than scheming to circumvent zoning to run for office next year.

Ndume acknowledged that the allegation of corruption against the National Assembly (NASS) may not be entirely false, but said his grouse with Obasanjo is that he institutionalised corruption when he was in the Villa between 1999 and 2007.

His words: “I am not in total disagreement with Obasanjo, but I would have preferred he says either Nigerians are corrupt or Nigerian politicians are corrupt. But for him to single out the (NASS) is not fair.”

And even if that is the case, Ndume stressed, the NASS has 80 per cent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, and Obasanjo is “the father and grandfather of the PDP. If his children are corrupt, then we know what the father is.

“Is it not during Obasanjo's era that corruption moved from the lowest level to the highest level? It was during his tenure that he shared N50 million to each member of the House in order to extend his tenure.

“It was also during his tenure that NASCON, TANSCORP, NITEL and all others were sold to his girl friends, cronies, and others. That is the foundation of corruption in this country.”

Ndume said the NASS is not better when it comes to corruption, but taking the case of budget padding, which Obasanjo spoke of, “if the budget comes and there is nothing for my constituency, I will not support it without having something for my people. But that is because of the government failure.

“If the government is not building hospital in my constituency and I need hospital in my constituency, I will make sure that in the budget of N4 billion, at least N30 million is made available to build a primary health care centre in my local government.

“It is also true that if I have my way, I will determine who the contractor is. You cannot bring somebody from Lagos or Ogun State to do contract in my local government. The (NASS) position is that if the government is doing its work everywhere, there will not be the need for constituency projects.

“When Obasanjo was the President, we know what he did in eight years and his people are better off now. Go and check his account and assets now after eight years as President and you will get the answer to who is corrupt; whether it is the (NASS) or the whole country.”

Ndume affirmed that there is corruption, which should be tackled holistically.

“Look at the whole budget of N4.6 trillion, how much is coming to the (NASS)? How much is going to recurrent expenditure? Only 25 per cent is going to capital expenditure that affects more than 150 million Nigerians.”

He declared the administration of Jonathan a disaster, saying the President erred by refusing to sign the 2010 supplementary budget when the year has less than five months to wind up.

He equally took a swipe at Jonathan for failing to meet the expectation of Nigerians who reposed so much hope in his leadership when fate brought him on board as President.

“Most disturbing to us is the ongoing debate in the PDP on the zoning of political offices, particularly the office of the President. This ordinarily is supposed to be a PDP affair, but again, it has been given a different colouration by people whose aim is to create confusion.

“We are worried that (Jonathan) has allowed himself to be distracted by this unnecessary debate, thereby leaving issues of state to suffer.

“We are surprised that instead of striving to initiate efforts to solve some of the pertinent and pressing problems, particularly in the power sector where he doubles as the Minister, the President has failed to make any impact in the area.”

Ndume said Jonathan surrounds himself with “a hoard of sycophants” and “failed politicians” who hijack the smooth running of government business and fan the embers of disunity and set agenda for the next elections “with the intent of playing godfathers” whereas “there is nothing to show that this government can be trusted.”

He noted that Jonathan has abandoned the Presidential Advisory Committee (PAC) he set up to help bring reprieve to the nation.

“We call on Jonathan to concentrate and excel in his present job as a sitting President instead of seeking to be a Presidential candidate in the next election when he is yet to deliver on the subsisting mandate.”

In any case, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has begun probing the allegation made by Obasanjo against the lawmakers.

ICPC Chairman Emmanuel Ayoola disclosed at the sixth edition of the Chairman’s Guest Forum in Abuja on Thursday that “we will use the allegation made by Obasanjo that the (NASS) is corrupt to question the size of allowance of the lawmakers.

“We will commence investigation on the legal propriety on the size of the allowance, we want to know whether any criminal offence has been committed on the size of the allowance and if we find something we will tell the world what we have found.”

Ayoola said the ICPC is reviewing activities that will cleanse Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) corruption and is also investigating how lawmakers utilise funds for constituency projects.

“We have already collected data from most of the state Houses of Assembly in regard to the practice they adopt in the management of constituency projects to enable us assess which aspects of the execution of such projects run contrary to the ICPC Act.”

He expressed satisfaction with the increase in the number of petitions received by the ICPC, describing it as a measure of the growing revulsion of the citizens about corruption.

Once you go white you can't go broke or heart break !
Photo:Black & White couple, Oluchi, popular model, with her white husband. More Nigerian girls want to marry white men.
While some of these girls are undergraduates in various higher institutions of learning in the country, others are just trying to make ends meet.
.
Some of these white men are in Nigeria for greener pastures while others are called upon by companies operating in the country to take up jobs because of their technical know-how.

The girls often meet these men, a term used to describe Europeans, White Americans and Asians, in places like night clubs, bars, shopping malls and parties.

One of the girls, Osagie Ruth, confirmed that Nigerian girls prefer white men because they spend money without thinking twice. He also said they were more romantic.

Citing an instance, Ruth, who is excited about having white men as lovers, said she has vowed never to date any black man until when she is ready for marriage.

According to her, this vow became necessary after experiencing several heartbreaks with Nigerian men.

“Can you believe that the last one I dated was a married man with three kids? He never told me he was married until I almost got lynched by his wife who saw us while we were in the heat of passion in his supposed house.

“I would have been dead by now. The worst part of it was that he hardly gave me money for my upkeep and he monitored my daily activities as if I was in prison custody, yet I stayed in the relationship as I needed a man desperately,” she explained.

She said she was introduced into the “business” by a friend and since then she has “been living in the sweetest world.

“I now have a Honda car and a well furnished apartment.”

Another girl, who maintained anonymity said she prefers dating white men because “they are more understanding and they give us freedom to do a lot of things compared to their Nigerian counterparts.”

She said she could date other men and engage in other ventures that would fetch her money without the prying eyes of her white guys. But that is not the case with the Nigerian men, who she described as greedy and crooked in their love life.

“They prefer hiding you somewhere and doing it only in secret places with you for fear of being recognised by other people.

“But the white men are always proud to move around with you openly. They are proud of what they have even if we are only with them for money.”

Asked why she loves dating only white men, Philomena Okeke, an undergraduate, retorted: “Why I no go date them? Even if they look like albinos, it is a matter of closing my eyes when we are having fun. I begin to think of black people when it is happening.

“Though I hate them, I need their money. I have also had many heartbreaks from Nigerian men and I decided to give the whites a try. I have no regrets so far.”

P.M.NEWS also gathered from the girls that not all the white men are nice. The ones from Asian countries, India and Lebanon do not like to spend. According to some of the girls, men from these areas prefer paying peanuts after satisfying themselves.

“When dealing with people from these areas, we collect our money first. I am not an animashaun (meaning free giver in Yoruba)” one of the girls, who was seen hanging out with a white man in an eatery told P.M. NEWS.

However, some of the white men are said to be so happy with the ladies that they could go as far as buying houses and cars for them and sending them on vacation abroad.

Ijeoma, a 28-year old lady, who now has two kids for a white man residing in the country, agreed that the reasons for the preference varied.

According to her, “one thing that a black girl sees in a white guy is money in this part of the world because of poverty.

“For others, they want to be seen that they are powerful girls that can trap a white guy. Others want to have a white baby, get married and have security.

“Sometimes, a white guy in Africa might be having a hard time and the next thing on his mind is to go out and bang just any girl. You will find such guys mostly around bars, clubs, etc.

“Now, the girl in return wants a guy to sell her body too and get some few change and they talk, arrange to meet and he takes her to his place and they have sex. He pays her off and other times, there is a huge argument, the girl wants more money probably because she knows she will never see him again and instead of taking N5,000 she will demand for N50,000.

“These white guys also get better pay and remember, they are expatriates, and while their families are abroad, they need to have fun and they discovered that there are loads of loose girls here.

“The second type of girls that go for white guys want to be perceived as powerful, big girls. They travel with the white men, live high class life and have a good sex life. You see these girls driving powerful cars and living in high brow areas of the city.”

Open Letter To Dora Akunyili By Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne On Behalf Of Dora Akunyili's Late Eldest Sister's Family
Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne , Aug 04 2010 01:58pm (4 Comments)
OPEN LETTER TO DORA AKUNYILI by Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne On behalf of Dora Akunyili's Late Eldest Sister's Family

Dear Aunty Dora,

1. I write you this letter as your first nephew and first son of your late sister. I write you on behalf of our family―the family of your late eldest sister. I write with deep sorrow and pain in my heart. I have chosen this medium because it seems to be the only medium you enjoy and especially since you decided to politicize the death of my mother through the mass media. You are the Minister of Information and Communication and in control of Government owned media. You have really demonstrated to us and all Nigerians how much powers you have by mobilizing all Government media to fight your private family battles. You know I have always cared for and respected you and all my aunties and uncles. This letter is out of care and concern for you Aunty. You may not appreciate it now but I am sure that in a few years time, it will all make sense. The goal of this letter is to remind you of our mortality in this world, and to beg of you to please let my mother truly rest in peace!

2. You would recall Aunty that when you were lobbying for the NAFDAC position, you asked my late mother and all of us to go on fasting and prayers and that if God answered our prayers, the family would never be the same again. It is up to you, Aunty, to assess whether in the last 10 years you have been in public service the family has seen more pain or gain. I now agree that power corrupts. But Aunty take it easy because as the late Azikiwe once reminded everyone, ‘no condition is permanent’! Life is a stage, and all positions remain temporal and ephemeral. In the end, you will still need this family, and you may not know exactly when or how!

3. Your tribute to my late mother attests to the fact that she literally brought you up, and was the matriarch of your family since your parents died early. But over the last several years, you brought so much pain and sorrow that she regretted having you as a sister. Her unanswered question remained: "what did I do to Dorothy?" Only you can answer that question! It speaks volumes that your eldest sister who doubled as your mother was sick for about six months and even flown abroad for six weeks and you did not know. Of course, if you were in talking terms with her or if you ever called her on phone, you would have known. Whatever may be your reasons for your behaviour towards her, it baffles us that you have no compassion even to the dead. Your conduct before, during and after the burial/funeral ceremonies gave the impression that you were bent on disrupting the ceremonies for reasons best known to you. In the attempts, caution was thrown to the winds and perhaps you may not be aware that you committed several abominations in the process.

(a) First and without consultation with our family, you left your hometown (Nanka) and came to set up a parallel, rival funeral site next to our compound (contrary to custom and tradition). When I noticed this abominable arrangement two weeks to the burial, I politely begged and explained to Uncle Anayo (your younger brother who came to make the arrangement) that it was not proper. We thought it was settled. My family was shocked to notice in the early hours of the burial day, that you adamantly went ahead to set up a tent beside our family house as your own funeral site. It took the intervention of our kindred, the traditional ruler, and the police to convince your occupation force to relocate to your home town Nanka as the tradition demanded. Of course, the soldiers and police you brought to enforce your wish brutalized several members of my kindred who protested the abomination. Aunty, our hearts bled. Is this the use of power which you asked us to fast and pray for? You know best the reasons for your strained relationship with my mother, and even at her death, you brought truck loads of soldiers and police to harass and beat up innocent people who came to mourn her death. We did not find this act funny, Aunty. Now that my mother has died, are you now on a mission to also conquer her family?

(b) Why did you not allow your immediate elder brother, Uncle Joseph, who is the first son of your parents, to be part of your delegation to the burial/funeral? By tradition, he was expected to lead the delegation of our Uncles and aunties. We were shocked when you stood in the Alter of God and publicly announced that your more successful younger brother, Uncle Anayo, was the head of the Edemobi family. Is Uncle Joe dead? Some of us can only hazard a guess as to the reasons. But Aunty, to deny him the opportunity to see the corpse of his eldest sister and also publicly deny him his birthright as the head of the Edemobi family (on tape) is an abomination! It pained us that Uncle Joe was not allowed to see his sister’s corpse and pay his last respects. Dear Aunty, there will be life after Government!

(c) Again, Aunty, why would you bribe the Umuada Nanka (paid each N5000) so that they won’t perform their last rites to my mother? On the morning of Saturday, July 17, we sent a bus to bring the leadership of Umuada as we were directed but were told that you asked them not to come. Must you go this far Aunty? Well, we are happy that we fulfilled all the requirements as demanded by your people and the Umuada, as required by custom and tradition, including the cow, etc. By tradition, you and the Umuada are now the ones owing my mother! Money, they say, is the root of all evils. With money, Aunty, you have created a crisis among the Umuada. Many of them have called us to complain that you have goaded them into committing an abomination by not giving my mother her right, and are now demanding a date from us so that they can shed the burden. We leave you and the Umuada to your conscience, to God, and the spirit of my mother!

(d) We heard you were complaining that the corpse of my mother was not brought to you at Nanka before the burial. Very funny, isn’t it, Aunty? Remember this was the woman you had not spoken to in over a year. How many times in the last five years did my mother enter that compound? Why would she do so only as a corpse? By the way, when did it become the custom and tradition of Nanka that a married daughter of Nanka would never be buried unless and until the corpse has been taken to her father’s compound in Nanka? Aunty, I am sure you know enough that taking of corpses to the deceased’s father’s home is simply a gesture of goodwill (especially when the corpse has been put in a mortuary, where it is convenient to do so, and where existing relationship is cordial) and never a requirement by custom and tradition in Nanka or even the environs. What if she was married in Calabar and the survivors had no money to even put the corpse in the mortuary?

Finally, everyone of the over ten thousand people who attended the two day events attested that it was a funeral to be remembered for years for its huge success. While everyone was praising us and our inlaws for giving our mother a historic burial, you went ahead to call a press conference to give bad publicity to the events. Well, he who has decided to dance unclothed in the market place must not blame the children for taking a glance at his nudity. I will refrain from commenting on that press conference and your spurious allegations therein. We were all shocked that you could boldly fabricate such stories about thugs and tell the whole world. My mother must be perplexed anywhere she is about your conduct and how you are paying back her family for all she did for you. Think about this Aunty, you could not devote one minute of network news to announce the death of your eldest sister but devoted minutes of airtime in all TV stations including the NTA network news, radio, and the print media to run your obviously self-serving advertisements to ensure that the burial had a bad press. It is well!.

4. My last word, Aunty, is that you should take it easy. Please watch it Aunty because, aside from the choruses and trumpets that go with power, the ship may be getting empty by the day. Always remember, we all love you. We earnestly pray that you will still come to the reality that aside from God, your most important possession is family! We are still observing the 40 days of mourning, but I will not forget to send our belated happy birthday wishes. We will continue to pray for you, Aunty!

With all best wishes,

Your nephew,

Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne

Deposed Deji’s wife begs for his return

THE battered wife of the deposed Deji of Akure, Olori Bolanle Adepoju Adesina, Monday sought forgiveness for her banished husband, Oba Adepoju Adesina.

She particularly urged the Ondo State Government and the Akure community to rescind their decision to sack the former monarch.

Adesina was dethroned about two months ago by the government for allegedly assaulting Olori Bolanle in public.

He is presently banished from Akure.

Olori Bolanle addressed reporters after the end of a reconciliatory meeting held by heads of her family and those of the Adepoju Adesina royal family.

She said: "At the end of the crucial meeting, family of the Deji withdrew the controversial statement which disowned my children as potential members of Adesina royal family."

She urged traditional rulers to help her appeal to the government to rescind its decision on the deposed monarch..

Bolanle said: "I also impress it on my colleague oloris in the state to support my pleading to Akure kingmakers, eminent Akure indigenes, youths, indigenes of the state and Akure people in the Diaspora."

In a letter of apology to the Olori’s family in Owo, the Adepoju Adesina royal family appealed to the head of the family, Chief Akinola Fadeyi, for forgiveness.

It urged the family to disregard the statement on alleged infidelity and doubtful paternity of the two princes whom Olori Bolanle has for the deposed Akure monarch.

It said: "Our family, like yours, is rather disturbed by the undue publicity and political manipulations to which this ordinary matrimonial matter has been subjected."

The statement was jointly signed by Cheif Abisoye Adesina, Prince Ibukun Adepoju Adesina and Princess Bobola Adepoju Adesina.

It said the report credited to the former monarch was made in the heat of passion based on the prevailing circumstances at that time.

The family said the two children are their authentic children and not bastards.

"The first thing is go see a doctor, be checked to make sure you are medically alright."

After several years of spreading a virus throughout the male gender, a prostitute has been captured, but the damage has been done as there are fears that 100s of men have been infected.

With a schedule of two clients a day, four days a week for several years, Nigaila Gibbs, 20, whom knowingly is HIV+, has left many in question to whether or not they have contracted it and are now positive.

Under the belief that many men have had sexual contact with the woman, her photo has been released serving as a heads up for those residing in St. Louis County, Missouri that a medical examination might be smart right about now.

Gibbs has been charged with prostitution while knowingly infected with HIV, which is a felony.

Thousands ofCatholic faithfuls and onlookers yesterday thronged the St PaulCatholic Church, located along the busy Airport Road in Benin City toview the appearance of a strange image believed to be that of JesusChrist in a "Monstrance" at the church's sanctuary.

The massive crowd halted vehicular traffic on the road for several hours, causing discomfort for travellers and road users.

When the reporter found his way into the main auditorium of the church, a faint imagecould still be observed on a gold plated circular object on the alterplaced on a table, with two linings of coloured lighting on both sidesof the gold plated object.

It was a tough job trying to get information from members of the church as they describedthe "mysterious appearance" as a spiritual happening. They alsohelpfully added that it may be difficult for a layman and non-Catholicto decipher.

A worker in the church's sanctuary said the image was an "expression of the blessedsacrament, but when sacrament is exposed, we usually see the whitebackground in the gold plated object placed on the alter. But sinceyesterday afternoon (Wednesday), we have been seeing Jesus' form in thebackground which is supposed to be white and it has been there tillnow, but it is beginning to go faint now." The assistant priest of thechurch, Chima Okosisi refused to make any official pronouncement on thesighting. "This is a strange development here, unusual here, similarthings have happened before in other places, we revered it," he said.

Hour of mercy

A member of the church, Bernedette Idalo said the image appeared at about 3 pm onWednesday, which she said was the hour of divine mercy; the exact timeJesus was said to have died when he was crucified. She however, saidthat it was totally strange to the church as similar images haveappeared on the wall and other places before now.

"This apparition can stay for days and weeks, it is meant to strengthen our faith. Awoman was in a trance when the thing happened and she said our Lordsaid we should praise Him more," she said.

As at the time of filing this report, hundreds of persons were still waiting at the church while some were praying to see if a bolderimage of Jesus would appear later.

"Policeman impregnates woman in detention cell"

A policeman attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Borno State police headquarters in Maiduguri has allegedly impregnated a 24-year-old homicide suspect, Halima Abdu, while being detained in cell at the CID wing for investigations before her prosecution in court.

Daily Trust confirmed yesterday that the suspected policeman, whose name was only given as Abubakar from Biu Local Government Area, has since been arrested and detained by his colleagues after the Nigerian Prisons Service wrote to the state Commissioner of Police informing him that a suspect was confirmed to be pregnant while she was to be admitted into the maximum security prison in Maiduguri and on investigations, she said she was impregnated by a policeman.

The Fulani woman was brought to the CID where she identified the man and he was promptly detained by his colleagues with investigations still on, police sources said. The woman became pregnant sometime in January 2010. She was arrested and detained since 2009, shortly after she was accused of killing her three-day old baby boy whom she dumped in a public well at Balbaya village in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno State in June 2009.

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Isa Azare, didn’t answer phone calls yesterday for comments and wasn’t traced but a source at the command said investigations were going on which may require a DNA test after the woman delivers next month, September- expectedly, to ascertain the paternity of the child.

Now about eight months pregnant, Halima told Daily Trust that she was impregnated by the police officer after she was transferred from Bayo Police Division to the CID. She said he lured her into having sex with him.

“He said he was going to help set me free if I agreed to have sex with him and we had sex right there inside the cell where I was kept. But after that, he failed to keep his promise. I did what I did to regain my freedom,” she said.

Daily Trust found out from prison sources that the pregnancy was discovered based on the suspicion of a female prison warden at the Admissions Board (a department within the prisons that is saddled with the responsibility of ascertaining conditions of new inmates and disclosing to them their rights).

A pregnancy test was conducted in March, 2010 and the woman was confirmed to be 12 weeks pregnant as at then. Halima had told Daily Trust that she was married to one Haruna Buba and lived at Unguwan Mai Ruwa in Jalingo, Taraba State, but was sent packing by her husband without a divorce letter while she was already pregnant for him.

Despite court intervention, he refused to divorce her, forcing her to go back in search of her parents who were until then resident at Juniji village in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno State.

She said she couldn’t locate her parents and on June 15, 2009, she was accommodated by one Hafsat, a house wife. “In the afternoon of June 17, 2009, I gave birth to a baby boy and decided to move with the baby,” she said.

She said in the evening of June 19, 2009, she stopped over at Balbaya village in Bayo and out of frustration and annoyance with how her husband treated her, and having nowhere to go or whom to turn to, she confessed, “I decided to drop the baby boy into a well.”

Daily Trust gathered that one Malam Bello Ali (Agambe) Chairman of water vendors at Balbaya was said to have sighted the body of the baby boy and rushed to report his discovery to the village head, Lawan Ali Muhammadu, who in turn reported the matter to the Balbaya police outpost. The case is to continue on August 11, 2010.

Mrs. Iyabo Bakare had looked forward to August 2, 2010, the day her daughter, Fausat, was to write her Post-University Matriculation Examination with high hope. Her hope was hinged on her belief that Fausat would get admission into the university where she intended to read Accountancy.

Although the incident occurred on May 31, as sympathisers came to visit Iyabo on Monday, the visit triggered the emotion that was witnessed on the night Fausat died. Most of the sympathisers said the death of Iyabo, who would have been 19 by December, was avoidable.

Fausat, fondly called Mama, was electrocuted on the premises of 1, Adebiyi Close, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, shortly after returning from the church.

An eyewitness, who did not want her name mentioned, told PUNCH METRO that Fausat was electrocuted by illegally connected electricity under a TV antennae pole by one of the occupants of the building said to be illegal structure.

She said, “That day, rain fell heavily and everywhere was flooded. As Fausat was wading through the flood, the underground live cable shocked her. Unknown to her, she held on to the TV pole to support herself, and she was flung into the flood with such a terrific force.

“Before neighbours could rescue her, she had given up the ghost. When she was eventually rushed to a hospital (Noble Hospital, Olonode), a doctor confirmed she had died before getting to the hospital.”

The eyewitness said the incident angered the neighbours, who pounced on the apartment and vandalised it.

One of the occupants of the building, who was accused of the illegal electricity connection (name withheld), reportedly went to the police station to lodge a complaint that the property was vandalised.

”When the police came and found out true situation of things, they had to detain the suspect for illegal connection of electricity,” she said.

Speaking amid tears, Iyabo said Fausat‘s demise dealt a devastating blow to the family.

She corroborated the eyewitness‘ account and added that on the fateful day, the deceased with her other siblings, having returned from church, said they wanted to eat bread and tea.

She said Fausat went in company with other children in the neighbourhood to buy the items.

She recalled that as they were wading through the flood, she almost fell and had to ignorantly hold on to the antennae pole to support herself, not knowing that there was a live-wire running under the pole.

She said, ”As my daughter and those who accompanied her to buy the items were wading through the flood, she held to the pole for support and was immediately electrocuted. ”Ordinarily, people would think that the pole was just a TV antennae, but this was not so. There was an underground wire, which had been illegally connected. I think the man put the antennae probably to deceive the officials of the PHCN.”

Narrating the qualities of Fausat, Iyabo said she was beautiful, brilliant, intelligent, hard working and respectful, adding that the family had lost a jewel of an inestimable value.

She appealed to the Lagos State Government and the Yaba Local Council Development Area not to allow her daughter die in vain, saying that she wanted the illegal structure to be demolished and the underground cable removed so that other innocent people would not fall victims again.

When our correspondent visited the scene of electrocution, he observed that the entire building had been deserted. Also, the underground cable had been removed, while the alleged culprit was said to have bolted.

It was also observed that a sealing notice had been pasted on the building from a Customary Court in Yaba indicating that the building would be demolished soon.

Mariam Abacha Preaches Forgiveness. Will Nigerians Forgive Her?

Ever since she lost her husband, Gen. Sani Abacha in 1998, Hajia Mariam Abacha has led a quiet life, unfazed by the avalanche of public criticisms of the tenure of the former military head of state, who presided over one of the most turbulent times in Nigeria’s political history.
After performing one of the unenviable tasks of evacuating her family out of the seat of power on the death of their bread winner, and the spirited battle she waged to save her son, Mohammed, from Obasanjo’s vengeful mission, the matriarch of the Abacha family has simply returned to Kano and settled to a quiet life after power.

Nigerians caught a glance of Hajia Mariam Abacha in May when she joined the other first ladies to condole Turai Yar’ Adua who faced a similar fate of taking her husband home, after his fruitless struggle to stay alive. Sunday, July 4, 2010 was therefore a moment to remember as Hajia Abacha and her family received a gathering of Christians from southern Kaduna, who live in Kano and came to offer their support as well as campaign for the success of Mohammed Abacha in the forth coming governorship contest.
The former first lady, who spoke in Hausa language, told the crowd that she was not surprised by the close relationship her family had maintained with the Christian community, adding that the Abacha family had over the years savoured the relationship of other Nigerians irrespective of the “ethno religious divide.” She said the head of her domestic staff is a Christian who enjoys freedom of worship in a Muslim family. She said apart from learning from Christians on her staff the teachings and values of the Christian faith, they are regarded as relations and members of the extended family. “You are my relations, the head of my domestic staff is a Christian from Kaduna, we allow freedom of worship and from him we have come to learn a lot on Christians values”, Mrs. Abacha stressed.

Mariam Abacha stated that his late husband’s belief in the unity of the country was evident in his appointment of Christian military officers as governors in the Muslim dominated northern states, and the appointment of Muslim officers as governors in the Christian populated south.
She told the gathering how General Abacha influenced the stay of execution of death sentence passed by a tribunal on the former Rivers State governor, Major General Zamani Lekwot and his kinsmen over the Zango Kataf crisis in 1992.
Seven members of the Kataf ethnic group, including Lekwot, had been sentenced to death for murder in connection with religious riots in northern Nigeria, leaving them with no right of appeal against the convictions.

Mariam Abacha explained that the gesture by the late general was propelled by his ‘humane spirit of forgiveness’..
The former first lady stated that the late head of state supported the unity of Nigeria especially the cordial relationship between the Christian Kataf and their Muslim brothers who had for years lived peacefully together.

‘We voted for Nigerian unity, one people one nation, these what my late spouse lived and died for, and we are promoting the legacy for its attendant benefits in a multicultural society’, Mrs. Abacha stressed.
In a speech earlier, leader of the southern Kaduna people resident in Kano, Mr. Ayuba Dangana, described the late General Abacha ‘as a friend and a relation’ whose administration elevated the people to the forefront of Kaduna politics.

A gang of kidnappers received a huge shock as their target, who turned out to be an Army general shot and killed one of them near Aba in Abia State.

J.O.J Okoloagu, a retired general was ambushed by a gang of armed kidnappers at the Alaoji area of Aba on his way to Port Harcourt in the company of his orderly and the driver.

Mr Okoloagu narrated his ordeal at a hospital where he is receiving treatment for gunshot wounds he sustained during the attack. He said the kidnappers blocked his vehicle and started firing into the air while one of them demobilised his vehicle by blasting the four tyres. One of the kidnappers then tried to drag him out of his car not knowing that he was a soldier.

“He thought I was a civilian and immediately he let his hands off the trigger, I pumped the whole six rounds into his chest,” he said.

Mr Okoloagu said, in retaliation, the kidnappers shot and wounded him along with his orderly - the orderly was shot in the hand. But sensing that their mission had been jeopardised with one of them down, Mr Okoloagu said they fled, after commandeering a vehicle with which they took their slain colleague away..

He added that he managed to escape into the bush with his orderly in the confusion that followed but regretted that his driver was critically wounded and is now in coma at a hospital.

Mr Okoloagu also called on the federal government to get soldiers involved in efforts aimed at checking the insecurity by rehabilitating abandoned army barracks in the South-East zone. When contacted, Ali Okechukwu, the Abia State Police command Public Relations Officer said he can not immediately confirm the incident.

Ahmed Sanni Yerima may soon be arraigned in court for alleged child abuse and marriage to a minor. The former governor, who is now a senator, may be prosecuted over his marriage to an Egyptian minor, a 14-year old school girl, Eladly Maryam Maged Saleh. Investigation in Abuja showed that the federal government is currently studying a report which detailed the offences of Mr. Yerima. Sources at the Ministry of Justice headquarters in Abuja disclosed that the report recommending the prosecution of the senator, is ready for the approval of federal government. The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, told our correspondent in his office yesterday that the file has been returned to him to properly advice the government. Mr. Adoke had before directed our reporter to the office of the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the ministry, whom he said was handling the investigative report submitted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters (NAPTIP). Attorney General breaks silence Yesterday, the minister said, “I cannot answer your question right now. This is the file on my table (he raises the file for the journalist to see). I am reading it with a view to working on it and aligning it with the position of the Constitution..” Explaining his position, Mr. Adoke said: “The issue is that the man who contracted the marriage said he did so under the Islamic rites, which is at variance with the Constitution. The Constitution, on the other hand, recognises marriages under the Marriage Act and Customary Laws. So, as the chief law officer of the country, I have the duty to read the report and align it with the position of the Constitution, which supersedes any other law and which I swore to uphold. I am still in the process of doing that. As soon as I finish doing that I will let you know. But I will not act against the Constitution by playing to the gallery just because I want to become a hero in the eyes of the public.” According to NAPTIP, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mr. Yerima’s marriage breached Sections 21, 22 and 23 of the Child Rights Act, 2003. The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria has sued the NHRC and NAPTIP over the matter asking the court to stop his prosecution. However, sources at the Ministry of Justice say he will still be prosecuted irrespective of what comes out of the case by the Sharia council because he clearly breached some of the laws of the country. The case, which is presently being heard before Justice Adamu Bello, president of Court 5 of the Abuja High Court, has been adjourned for hearing. International investigation The case has already attracted the attention of some international organisations including the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), which General Counsel, Joel Sollier, last week contacted its national central bureau in Lagos for relevant information. According to legal experts, one of the issues that is central to INTERPOL’s interest is the possible link to terrorism of the family of the under-aged girl, whose father was found in possessing of two different international passports. A copy of the NAPTIP investigative report obtained by NEXT revealed that the girl’s father, Maged Saleh Mohammed Eladly, who is a driver to Mr. Yerima, had two Egyptian passports: A01086511, issued on 17/10/2009 in Egypt, valid till 16/10/2016 and A01403462, issued on 07/03/2010 in Egypt, valid till 06/03/2017. Recommendation for Yerima’s prosecution According to the report, “The first passport issued in 2009 has the father’s profession as workman while the second passport issued in 2010 referred to his profession as export and import office owner.” Miss Eladly, a 14-year-old student with passport number: A01385736 issued in Egypt on February 28, 2010, was born on January 9, 1996 in Kalyobiya, Egypt and was accompanied in her marriage to 49-year-old Mr. Yerima by her father, ten relations and many well-wishers - 58 in all- sponsored by the senator who paid $100, 000 dowry or Sadaqi on the girl. The marriage was conducted by the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Abuja with a general form of sworn affidavit deposited at the Sharia Court of Appeal, Abuja. The report before the justice minister notes that, “Senator Ahmed Rufai Sani Yerima’s action contravenes Sections 12 (a & b), 13 (1 & 2), 14 (1) and 17 (a & b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act 2003 as amended. His refusal to disclose the age of the minor (victim), the school she attends, and her class amounts to willful obstruction of lawful enquiry contrary to Section 58 (A & B) of TIP Act.. His refusal to disclose the exact amount of money paid as dowry is with intention to deceive the agency (NAPTIP) by using Islam as a cover up. The above section could be invoked as an offence under the Act which he is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years as the case may be. The Senator also breaches Sections 21, 22 and 23 of the Child Rights Act 2003, which is operational in FCT and liable on conviction to a fine of ₦500, 000.00 or imprisonment for a term of five years or both.” Considering that Mr. Yerima was also alleged to have encouraged foreigners to breach the laws of Nigeria, raising the need to share intelligence with the government of Egypt, the Nigeria Police was urged to join in the prosecution. Asked what the police was doing on its end, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Police Force, Abuja, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said the police do not have to duplicate the duties of NAPTIP, which is in charge of the case.

The plot of the nation's political drama thickens as President Goodluck Jonathan plans to reshuffle his cabinet next week, said sources privy to the decision.

Photo:L-R Head of Civil Service, Steve Oronsaye,Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed, Vice President Namadi Sambo and President Goodluck Jonathan at the Federal Executive Council Meeting in Abuja, yesterday

As politicians in the last few weeks focused on zoning and its attendant problems or benefits, Mr. Jonathan, who political watchers say never ceases to surprise, was doggedly entrenching his hold on the nation's polity.

A few days back, he forwarded the names of three nominees to the Senate for approval as new ministers. It was not immediately clear, however, who the new people will replace. The Senate has acknowledged the receipt of the nominees and decided to reconvene Tuesday next week to screen, and possibly confirm them.

Although the Senate would not reveal the identities of the nominees, it was confirmed that the candidates, two men, and a woman, are from Yobe, Delta, and Borno states. A source further confirmed that one of them is a member of an opposition party, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Curiously, Mr. Jonathan's action is coming nine months to the end of his administration and he still refuses to confirm if he will be contesting in next year's presidential election or not. Former president Olusegun Obasanjo also effected such a cabinet reshuffle towards the end of his second term in 2006 when he re-assigned Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from ministry of finance to foreign affairs.

The usual suspects

Sources confirmed that the proposed changes will most likely affect the finance minister, Olusegun Aganga and the minister of state for finance, Remi Babalola. It was unclear if Mr Babalola's statement last month that the state oil company, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was broke led to his been considered for possible removal. Mr. Babalola had told a group of journalists during a workshop on "Understanding the operations of the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria" organised by the NNPC for members of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), that the only reason the corporation has not paid the ₦450 billion debt owed to the federal government was "its cash flow problem." He reportedly lost favour with Mr. Jonathan after that statement.

At the federal executive council meeting that took place after Mr. Babalola's comment, the council denied, through Dora Akunyili, the Information minister, that NNPC was insolvent.

"NNPC, from the auditor's account, is a going concern, and does not have solvency issue as a corporation. Therefore, categorically, NNPC is not insolvent," Mrs. Akunyili said.

She added that there will always be an outstanding balance between the federal government and the oil giant because of the regular transactions between them.

One of the nominees is supposed to fill the vacancy in the power ministry which had no substantive minister, apart from the junior minister. The others are expected to fill the junior minister positions in the petroleum and foreign affairs ministries.

Although the cabinet reshuffle was not mentioned during the briefing that followed the federal executive council meeting yesterday, the Presidency is said to be awaiting the senate's endorsement of the nominees whose names are currently en route to the national assembly.
