Agenda-setting is the creation of public awareness and concern of salient issues by the news media. Two basic assumptions underlie most research on agenda-setting:

the press and the media do not reflect reality; they filter and shape it;
media concentration on a few issues and subjects leads the public to perceive those issues as more important than other issues.

One of the most critical aspects in the concept of an agenda-setting role of mass communication is the time frame for this phenomenon. In addition, different media have different agenda-setting potential.

Rogers and Dearing[15] identify three types of agenda setting:

public agenda setting, in which the public's agenda is the dependent variable (the traditional hypothesis)
media agenda setting, in which the media's agenda is treated as the dependent variable (aka agenda building)
policy agenda setting, in which elite policy makers' agendas are treated as the dependent variable (aka political agenda setting)

Mass communication research, Rogers and Dearing argue, has focused a great deal on public agenda setting - e.g., McCombs and Shaw, 1972 - and media agenda setting, but has largely ignored policy agenda setting, which is studied primarily by political scientists. As such, the authors suggest mass communication scholars pay more attention to how the media and public agendas might influence elite policy maker's agendas (i.e., scholars should ask where the President or members of the U.S. Congress get their news from and how this affects their policies). Writing in 2006, Walgrave and Van Aelst took up Rogers and Dearing's suggestions, creating a preliminary theory of political agenda setting, which examines factors that might influence elite policy makers' agendas

Good morning friends. Please remember to join me at 10.30 am today on Inspiration fm.

'Lifechoice novels: An intriguing world of christian fiction'. The prices are 1)Blooms among Thorns: N600 (2) The Stolen Years - N700 (3)Fit for a Crown: N700. Dats Nigerian price. For the ebooks and through Amazon

1)    THE STOLEN YEARS

A story about the ripple effects in a family torn apart by their parent’s greed.

Adenizen is the perfect school in every sense except for one thing. On the outskirts of its campus, there is a student villa where the female residents are fair game for any man who can pay the price. Madam Ofilia runs the villa and will go to any length to take the most promising girls under her wings, as long as they live up to their side of the bargain.

But when the ladies of A16 at Noble Hall become her next target, events take an unexpected turn. With each of these girls running her own agenda, it seems Madam Ofilia has bitten off more than she can chew. Things go awry and she is brought face to face with a buried past that might eventually cause her to meet her waterloo.

2)                BLOOMS AMONG THORNS

Like most ladies in the prime of their lives, Imade is determined to make a success of herself. She arms herself with everything that is necessary for this quest including a prestigious degree, a promising banking career and Dapo, her perfect man.

But she never anticipated that setbacks could occur along the way and is distraught when her perfect man walks out of her life and leaves her expecting his child. Then, just when she is learning to get along fine as a single mother, Dapo resurfaces; and it's not because he has missed her. Before long, Imade finds herself embroiled in one battle after the other as the ideal future she has mapped out, begins to fall apart. But though her dream of a perfect life is shattered, her faith in the perfect God is not. It is in her most dismal hours, that she discovers that God is able to turn her frustrations into triumphs if only she would yield to His transforming grace.

3. FIT FOR A CROWN

Three African women from three different eras are bonded together by a thin, fragile thread.

  • Iyogie is the soft spoken matriarch of the Idusefe family. A lone figurehead in a community of ancient traditions, she practices her faith quietly.  But like a lamp which burns in a dark room, her inner strength cannot be hidden and she offers hope to those close to her.

  • Ifueko: Living in the era of colonial transition, her destiny seems to have been decided by the men who rule the world in which she lives. But when these same men are subdued during the foreign invasion, Ifueko must take her destiny in her hands by deciding whether to go the way she has always known or to follow the road less travelled.

  • Stella is a modern day beauty queen, living life in the fast lane. When her life begins to spin out of control, she realizes that she may need to apply the brakes before she crashes. In a bid to reverse some of her hasty decisions, she takes a trip into the past to discover what exactly has been holding her back and what she must let go, if she is to lay hold of the true essence of life.

These women swim against the tides of their time, each one drawing inspiration from her forerunner as a legacy of true royalty is passed down from one generation to the next.

12166304474?profile=originalPop sensation Justin Bieber meets wax double

Teenage pop sensation Justin Bieber took time out from touring on Tuesday to visit the Madame Tussauds museum in London and pose next to a waxwork model of himself.

The model, dressed in a red and black checked shirt and black jeans, was one of three Bieber replicas being unveiled -- the others were in Amsterdam and New York. "It's pretty incredible to see," said the 17-year-old, before joking about how small the waxwork was. "As you can see, you know, I'm at least six feet taller than this guy." Liz Edwards, spokeswoman for the museum, said the real Bieber would naturally change quickly over the eight months it took to create the life-like model.

"So we really wanted to make sure we made a ‘moment in time' figure," she said.

"But it's the hair that everyone is paying the biggest attention to. So,

I'd say it's the hair that's been the biggest challenge." The singer, already one of the world's biggest pop stars with albums ‘My World' and ‘My World 2.0', was accompanied to the event by his mother, and he greeted a small crowd of fans.

He said that he would ideally like his waxwork figure to stand next to U.S. rapper Tupac Shakur.

TuFace, J.Martins & Fally Ipupa, to perform at ‘Choose Or Lose'

Nigeria musicians TuFace, J.Martins and Congolese act, Fally Ipupa, will be performing at the maiden edition MTV Live, the music channel's new live music night show, on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Tribeca in Lagos. Themed ‘Choose or Lose', MTV Live "is MTV's voter mobilization campaign, and is designed to inspire and empower young Nigerians to exercise their right to vote ahead of the upcoming April elections," a release from MTV reads. The event would feature some of Nigeria's finest DJs including the resident DJ at Lagos based Rhythm FM, DJ Humility; Beat FM's DJ Caise and the celebrity DJ, Jimmy Jatt.

MTV Live will also give room for the screening of the MTV sponsored music video collaboration, ‘Rep 4 Naija', between Nigerian musician's eLDee, Sound Sultan,

Black Twang, Naeto C, D'banj and M.I.

For the event, Fally Ipupa who led the winners at the third edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel (MAMA) will be performing his signature, hip-shaking song ‘Sexy Dance', with his full band and back-up dancers while TuFace, will be showcasing the trademark blend of reggae, R&B and traditional African musical influences. Later on, there will be an on-stage reunion between J. Martins and Fally Ipupa as they reprise their 2010 collaboration on the remix of Martins' hit ‘Jupa Remix'. MTV Live is produced in association with The Beat 99.9 FM.

Janet Jackson signs film deal with Lionsgate

Janet Jackson is becoming a movie producer. The singer/actress has signed a production deal with Lionsgate, the studio that released three Tyler Perry films in which she starred. "Many people forget I started out as an actor," Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter, referring to her TV stints on ‘Good Times' and ‘Diff'rent Strokes'. "I have been fortunate to work in the film industry, though not as much as I would like. I have a passion for storytelling, and have been doing it through my music for some time." Jackson was in theaters last November with Perry's ‘For Colored Girls', which grossed about $38 million. She also appeared in Perry's ‘Why Did I Get Married' and ‘Why Did I Get Married Too'. Her other credits include John Singleton's 1993 romantic drama ‘Poetic Justice'. Jackson said she is drawn to diverse material, and is particularly captivated by film noir. She just released her memoirs, ‘True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself', and is currently on a tour of North American arenas.

Jermaine Jackson to pen memoir on brother Michael

Singer Jermaine Jackson is detailing the life of his famous family and late brother Michael Jackson in a memoir that its publisher promises gives a close look at the complex life of the King of Pop.

The book, titled ‘You Are Not Alone: Through a Brother's Eyes' and set for release in fall 2011, will look at the Jackson family from growing up in working class Gary, Indiana to Michael Jackson's private life behind the gates of his Neverland ranch in southern California.

‘You Are Not Alone' also will examine his complex relationships with his mother Katherine and father, Joe. "It is a frank, but sophisticated examination of the human, not the legend, with revealing insights and no subject off limits," publisher Touchstone said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Jermaine Jackson noted the upcoming trial and said that his family does not want what is said in court to remain the final word on the life of his mega-star brother. "We want the world to remember his truth, his legacy, and some wonderful memories we shared as brothers, as a family. We don't want Michael's life to be an eternal mystery," Jermaine Jackson said.

Ambrose Alli University Sex-For-Grades Update: Dr. Otubu Fired; Judith Okosun Suspended For Six Semesters

judith_otubu_pose.jpg?1299082893&width=296
Dr. Peter Otubu and Judith Okosun

Judith Okosun, the 400-level Mechanical Engineering student at the centre of the July 2010 sex-for-grades scandal at the Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, has been suspended for six semesters.

In a report, THE NEWS said that Engr. Peter Otubu, the lecturer whose demand of sexual favours in exchange for good grades led to the crisis, was fired by the University, this was confirmed by the university authorities today.

In July 2010, Saharareporters broke the story of the scandal.  Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who is the Visitor of the institution, immediately demanded an investigation and report.

The university, which Ms. Okosun’s lawyer claimed to have been informed of the incident from the beginning, although its spokesman denied it, set up two committees.  The student was found guilty of “breaching her matriculation oath”.

Also, the university offers no guarantee that another randy lecturer will not be waiting with a new grading “system”, or to exact vengeance.

Dr. Otubu’s case was instructive according to the university vice chancellor who rendered an account of his past to the NEWS magazine, as stated here: “Professor Sam Uniamikogbo, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, explained why Judith was also sanctioned. “The student was aware of the university’s rules and regulations and once any student violates any of the rules, that student will be disciplined,’’ he told TheNEWS.  The rules, said the Vice-Chancellor, forbid students from taking laws into their own hands, as Judith seemed to have done. Uniamikogbo is, however, still shocked by the conduct of Otubu. Prior to the scandal, the V-C said, Otubu was considered chaste; having helped the university authorities bust a lecturer who habitually demanded sex from married undergraduates. ‘‘It was Otubu that we put on the case. The married woman was told to play along. Otubu helped us to arrest the lecturer at the hotel to which he had invited the woman. I could never have imagined that a man we thought was clean and a veritable role model would be involved in this kind of scandal,” Uniamikogbo said ruefully...

The university terminated Dr. Otubu’s appointment on October 26 2010.

A source at the university told SaharaReporters that Judith has gone to court to challenge her wrongful rustication from the university.

A pregnant woman in Okpanam, near Asaba, Delta State, has been killed by persons suspected to be cultists. Police sources said the pregnant woman, Mrs Alice Okpor, 42, was murdered in cold blood by suspected warring cultists who had clashed close to her farmland. She was said to have been hit by a stray bullet from one of the occult groups while she was working on her farm.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY reliably gathered that, in the last six weeks, cult-related activities have continued unabated in the area, with rival cult groups clashing almost on a daily basis.

Sources said that the Eiye and Black Axe confraternities have engaged each other in fierce battles to avenge the serial killings of their members in Ubulu-Uku and its environs.

According to sources, a series of killings that has claimed six lives has also triggered renewed apprehension among members of the public, especially in the area.

Deltans have accused the various organs of government, the police, traditional and religious institutions as well as the federal government of lack of commitment in addressing the underlying causes of cult-related violence.

Recently, the cult boys were said to have stormed the house of a journalist, Mr. Dominic Adewole of The Compass in Okpanam. After sporadic shootings, they made away with his belongings including two laptops..

Adewole, while narrating his ordeal, said the cultists stormed his house in the wee hours with battle axes and guns and ordered him out of his room after inflicting several machete cuts on his body.

An informed source said there has been a cult war in Okpanam with no fewer than four persons arrested by security operatives in Asaba.

Police spokesman in the state ASP Charles Muka confirmed that cult activities in Okpanam and other parts of the state have assumed a frightening dimension, adding that steps have been taken to put an end to it.

okeyndibe.jpgThis is to inform Nigerians and the international community that following the appearance of Prof Okey Ndibe at the State Security Service (SSS) office in Lagos as directed today, his Nigerian and international passports have been released to him and
the agency has given an undertaking that no further action is to be taken against him. Professor Ndibe arrived at the SSS offices at about 9:55 A.M. Nigerian time with his lawyer, Mr ‘Sanjo Fagbemi. They were ushered into a waiting area and were there until 11:20 A.M. when they were taken to an office where two men were waiting. Prof Ndibe introduced himself and informed them he was there with his lawyer who also introduced himself. One of the men, who introduced himself as Mr Bifani then explained that the lawyer’s presence would not be necessary as they do not intend to interrogate Professor Ndibe nor detain him for long. He asked the lawyer to excuse them and the lawyer left to wait outside with some members of Respect Nigerians Coalition and other well-wishers who had come to the SSS offices in solidarity with Prof Ndibe. ..

Once the lawyer left, Mr Bifani began by apologising to Professor Ndibe for the distress they’ve caused him saying he has to accept it as “one of those things in life”. He explained that they were going to give him his passport and let him go. Prof Ndibe wondered how that comment can help in explaining what has happened. He said people outside would want to know why he was arrested in the first place, whether for a substantive offence or for mere suspicion, why his passports were taken and why he was asked to report to that office today. He explained that people will ask him and he requires answers to give them. Mr Bifani explained that he has committed no offence. He said he has been reading the reports as well and that this is all based on an “old matter” which he’s happy to say has been resolved. He said Professor Ndibe’s passports would be given back to him and that he can assure him that he would not be stopped at the airport anymore or picked up. He went on to say that this whole problem was based on the action of a previous government that have put Professor Ndibe’s name on a list of persons they should be questioning, but that the present government is not interested in pursuing this.

Professor Ndibe enquired about what this “old matter” was and how it was resolved that he is no longer to be questioned about this and how such a purported resolution is evidently contradicted by the fact of his arrest and the seizure of his passports. He said while he is no longer interested in pursuing those aspect concerning him personally, he is more interested in the revelation that there is a list of people somewhere, which included his own name and which the SSS is still apparently working with. He asked if this list included activists, writers, human rights campaigners and people who generally have a different view from the government, but who have been expressing their opinion peacefully and freely in the public space. He said he wants to know whether after his ordeal, others like him, whether based in Nigeria or coming from abroad, would not be given the same or worse treatment based on a list in the agency’s possession.

Mr Bifani said, to be honest, he wasn’t competent to speak about the list, which persons’ names are in it, who is not in it or who is likely to be picked up. But that all he can do now was to hand over Prof Ndibe’s passports to him. He brought out the passports and a form and asked Professor Ndibe to sign. The form basically was an acknowledgement that he has received his passports back. Prof Ndibe read and signed and the other fellow in the room who had been there all along saying nothing and who introduced himself as Mr Charles then signed as a witness. Prof Ndibe thanked them, took his passports and left to meet up with his lawyer and members of Respect Nigerians Coalition and well-wishers who had come to the office in solidarity with him. He gave a brief interview to Mr Ahaoma Kanu, a journalist and member of Respect Nigerians Coalition and went back home. By the time he was speaking to us, he was already home with friends and visitors who were visiting in solidarity.

Prof Ndibe said he was satisfied with the outcome on a personal level because despite the little hiccup, he still has time to get on with his programme in Nigeria and return to the US as originally scheduled. But he said he was seriously worried about the fact that he could not get an answer to the query about whether there are plans for the State Security Service to arrest or detain other opposition voices based on this list they admitted is in their possession. He urges the government of Goodluck Jonathan to make a statement in this regard and give a firm undertaking that the era of repression of political opponents is gone. He thanks Nigerians, the national and international civil society groups and the international community that kept the pressure on the government over the weekend. He said their love, care and concern has made his resolve to continue on the path of truth firmer, as he believes the Nigeria of our dream shall ultimately be attained with each of us doing our bit. He said he appreciates the courtesies showed him by the SSS officers who dealt with him and further appreciates that they have a job to do in defence and protection of national security. He said he hopes such courtesies that were extended to him are standard and across the board and not just based on status.Signed:Kennedy Emetulu Tosin Awotesu Emeka Enechi (For and on behalf of Respect Nigerians Coalition)

12166228662?profile=originalWith the Lagos Guber Candidate Ticket of Fashola confirmed by the ACN .

Now, for the second time in a month, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday accused the Federal Government of plotting to arrest and silence its national leader and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Federal Government, the ACN alleged, plans to put Tinubu out of circulation to check his rising political profile and demobilise the ACN ahead of April’s general election.

The party had on December 5 last year alerted Nigerians to "the surreptitious and dangerous moves being made to silence Tinubu."

A few days later, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) chair, Sam Saba, said the CCB would dust up against Tinubu, a case of keeping a foreign account while in office. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier investigated the case without any evidence against the former governor...

Spokesman of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told reporters in Lagos yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan had finally succumbed to the "unceasing pressure by signing on to the evil plan."

Mohammed said: "Now, we have it on a good authority that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, (Mr. Mohammed Adoke), has been under tremendous pressure to look for any offence, no matter how flimsy, to get Tinubu arrested and prosecuted – just to put him away." He alleged that the President "may sign a warrant of Tinubu’s arrest anytime from now."

He warned: "We will not sit back and fold our arms while those who fought for the democracy we are enjoying today are demonised and decapitated. We reject the targeting of Tinubu, who they see as the architect of the change that is threatening the PDP.

"Nothing must happen to this icon of democracy and good governance, so as not to set in motion a chain of events the end of which no one can predict."

Mohammed said the ACN’s phenomenal leap is making the PDP envious, hence the focus on Tinubu who is seen as "the architect of PDP’s deconstruction, who has to be stopped at all costs."

Apart from winning back its mandate in Edo, Ekiti and Osun states in the South-West where its candidates are now occupying the government houses, the ACN has also been making an in-road into other parts of the country.

Mohammed said internal democracy in the ACN and its discipline have attracted into the party the likes of Senator John James Akpanodoedehe (Akwa Ibom); Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and ex-Governor Achike Udenwa (Imo State); Former Transport Minister Abiye Sekibo (Rivers State); Senator George Akume (Benue State), Senator Saminu Turaki (Jigawa State); Senator Joel Danlami (Taraba State); five members of the National Assembly in Anambra State and the entire Congress of Progressive Party (CPC) structure in Bauchi State.

"As our party’s fortune rises, the prospect of the ruling PDP becomes dimmer and dimmer by the day.

"As the general elections approach, it is becoming increasingly clear to the discerning that we are the toast of all Nigerians seeking better governance and the deepening of democracy".

During the week, former President Olusegun Obasanjo was believed to have visited the national secretariat of the PDP to press the leadership to "do something about the crises in the party in the South-West so as to check the ACN" or he would quit.

Mohammed said those behind the plot to arrest Tinubu, in one of their meetings, "said everything must be done to stop the putative alliance between our party and the CPC, which they see as capable of ending the years of misrule by the PDP."

He then raised some posers: "Why the arrest of Tinubu at the time of the registration of voters? Why when there is a merger talk between the ACN and the CPC? Why when people are leaving the PDP in droves?"

He said the PDP men pressuring the President to get Tinubu arrested "are firmly of the belief that his arrest will destabilise the ACN".

Mohammed said there is a growing desperation by the PDP, saying the sum of $1billion "was secretly and hurriedly shared out to states from the excess crude accounts, just to secure support for President Jonathan and give his backers the necessary war chest needed to fight ahead of the April election." The money, he alleged, was shared in foreign currency to the detriment of the naira.

"In recent times, bombs have been exploding across the country in an unprecedented degeneration of security in a country that is not at war. Hundreds have been killed or maimed. Do we know those behind it? Do we know their motives? Could it be part of the end game? We leave Nigerians to judge."

But Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation yesterday dismissed the allegations. The organisation also said it was not true that six Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors were made to donate N500 million each to the President's campaign.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Mr. Sully Abu, in a statement in Abuja frowned at what he called "the recent penchant of politicians for broadcasting total fabrications in the garb of 'revelations'."

The ploy, according to Abu, is to "pile up one lie over the other with the hope that something murky would stick."

Describing Alhaji Mohammed's allegations as similar to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's "tissue of lies", Abu wondered under what financial sub-heads the monies allegedly taken from states' coffers would have been released.

He called on the security agencies to investigate Mohammed's "outrageous claims" that "one billion dollars have been secretly and hurriedly shared out to the states from the excess crude oil accounts, just to secure support for President Jonathan and give his backers the necessary war chest needed to fight ahead of April's election."

Abu stressed that no amount of blackmail or wicked propaganda would distract President Jonathan from his focused march to keep a date with destiny in the 2011 elections

If you know me personally, or even digitally , then you know that I am a physical fitness and athletic enthusiast. I find that there is a certain level of determination that is built up by being physically fit and sticking to a regimen. Athletics and exercise are the purest physical expression of true mental discipline that one can find. As an entrepreneur, I don't think I would be able to do what I do without the mental preparedness a daily workout routine brings. michael jordan entrepreneur resized 600With so many parallels between athletics and entrepreneurship, I asked myself "Who is the Steve Jobs of athletics?" This question can certainly be debated, but at the end of the day I arrived with an answer of Michael Jordan. A recent ad campaign by Nike with Michael Jordan is focused on the phrase "Be Legendary." and the quotes that come from them are absolutely golden. In truth, some of the best entrepreneurial advice I have ever received has come from Michael Jordan and this campaign. Here are 23 insights that I've learned from Michael Jordan:..

It's About Knowing Where You're Going

You have to have a clear path as to where you want to go. As a startup, things change along the way. Your execution might make you pivot or implement a different solution. At the end of the day, you need to stick to a clear vision and problem that you're trying to solve. If you're lucky enough to succeed, the road to where you're going may look a lot different than it did when you first started. Take a look at Google- make the world's information freely available. That has been the goal from day one, and despite solutions consisting of email, maps, video, operating systems, and more, that is still their goal at the end of the day. Never forget where you are going as an entrepreneur with your company.

Don't Forget Where You Started/Came From

This holds true for you as a person as much as it holds true for the company itself. Though we do it for more than the money, money can often change people to forget their humble beginnings. Many great entrepreneurs came from absolutely nothing - just an idea that might change the world one day. Don't ever forget that child like desire you had the first day you started. If you harness that essence, no money or fame can ever change you. Never forget your family and your close friends that were there before you started upon this journey. The best thing a company can do is keep a list/wiki of company lore that will remind them of their adventures. The long flights, the growth in employees, the launches, the failures, and more from the early days. Andres and I have been traveling the country with PadPressed. We've encountered some victories and many failures along the way, but we're keeping a record of it through writing, tweets, and pictures.

Have the courage to fail

Failure is a part of anything in life, but having the courage to face it head on is what makes you stronger. We hear so much talk about "it's okay to fail", but I don't think there's enough clarification. You shouldn't let your startup as a whole fail, that's not something you should easily let happen. Startups are really a compilation of many small instances of victories and failures. It's embracing those small instances of failures that will let you learn and adapt better. Think of embracing failure as the entrepreneurial equivalent of an immune system. By embracing failure, you learn what went wrong, what's bad, and how to prevent it from happening again. You build up a resistance to that specific instance of failure.

Don't break when broken

What goes up, must come down. Starting a company is a roller-coaster ride like none other. YCombinator actually has a graph here about this exact subject . You will feel broken inside and figure it's time to give it all up. That might be quitting yourself, selling the company, taking a weak deal, or even calling it quits on a smaller scale. DON'T. Emotions are fleeting and cloud your judgment. For the most part, something that makes you feel broken, should not break you. The true also holds same for the opposite.

Take everything given to you and make something better

Society is all about evolution, especially in technology and software. The greatest technologies take the fundamentals of what already exists in some form, but improves them with the new pieces that have evolved. I wrote about this earlier in a piece called "Build What Was Previously Not Possible." As an entrepreneur you will continually find new tools and innovations brought forth by other entrepreneurs. Take every single relevant thing you can find and bake it in to your product to make something better. For some that might be mobile, social, local, etc. Always ask yourself: "Am I using all the resources that are available and making something better?" We literally get nowhere with complacency, but get everywhere with advancement. Don't change the game, evolve the game.

Work Before Glory

The best entrepreneurs are humble and don't really care about the glory. One of the things that Dharmesh has taught me over the past few months is to keep a level head and be humble. Don't worry about the next press article that comes out about your company. Eventually there will be too many of them that it won't matter. It should be about the work you produce instead of the side benefit of glory. Your work will live on forever, but the glory will fade away when the next acquisition or rumor pops up. Legends are products of their work, NOT their glory.

Do what they say you can't

The competitive nature of entrepreneurship is a fun one. Many people will tell you that it can't be done or that it is too crazy. They will tell you that a better X can't be built or you won't be able to accomplish a small goal like fundraising or hiring. The people telling you this might not even be strangers, but close friends and family members. The only way to prove them wrong is to do it.

It's not about the tech, it's about what you do with it.

The tools and technology that is available to entrepeneurs just keeps on growing. Whether it's social, HTML5, geolocation, node.js, cloud services, or whatever else, that's not what this is about. Those tools by themselves are cool, but not that useful. The technology tools are like an artist's paint brush or a baseball players bat. It's about what you decide to create with those tools.

Be Scared Of What you won't become.

As an entrepreneur, you probably have a very big long term vision that you want to accomplish. It can't happen right now, but over time it eventually will. I always point out that Facebook started at one college, with one photo, no wall, and a mediocre design. Look at decisions as if they might compromise what you could become. If you take the easy route and make the wrong decision, you will not become what you should be. That should absolutely scare you. What if Zuck sold to Yahoo! many years ago? That has to be a scary thought as Facebook would not have become what it is today.

Make Others Scared Of What You Could Become

Entrepreneurs are often asked "So what if Google enters your market?" That's a worthy question, but at the end of the day, your vision should be so mind numbingly amitious and huge, that it scares Google or someone else. Today you might be something small, but if you play your cards right, what you end up becoming is scary. The really smart entrepreneurs aren't scared of the bigger guys as much as they are of the smaller, more nimble startups that COULD BECOME who they are now. At some point, everyone was no one.

Don't finish where you began

Startups are all about momentum and forward moving progress. Every task, project, or new feature should be able to take you forward. It might even be okay if it took you backwards, as the journey backwards is still a journey. Spending a ton of time on something and just ending up where you began is something you should avoid as an entrepreneur.

Know what is within you, even if others can't see it

Sadly, too many people in our industry disregard others that aren't in the in crowd or very visible. They look at who an entrepreneur is now, but not at the true future potential of who that person will become. The same way a smart person knew that Facebook would be something big in 2004, is the same way a smart person knew that a 19 year old unknown kid from Harvard would change the world. Some people ask me why I put my phone number and other contact information out there publicly (fyi- it's 201-305-0552). It's simple- You never know who you might meet. They might not be somebody now, but over time they might become somebody legendary. If you can help them get there, it benefits everyone involved. By helping others, you eventually start to develop pattern recognition for finding great talent, which is a key component of being a leader.

Patience is more important than courage

We always want success now or even yesterday. It's hard for us to realize that things won't happen as fast as we want them to. Courage is certainly a very important trait, but more important is having the patience to see things through. When we look at the success of others, we only see the end result. Even if we see the journey along the way, it is still a small snapshot. Take in the whole picture and realize that there are no overnight successes.

Fulfill your destiny.

It takes a while to get to this point, but you eventually realize what your destiny is in life. You clearly know what you were meant to do with your life and what the end result will be. It takes a lot of trial by fire to get there, but once you do, you will become unstoppable. The real key to fulfilling your destiny is figuring out exactly what it is. Once you figure out what that specific destiny is, it's a long journey, but the fire it generates inside, will put you on auto-pilot.

The press leads us to believe it is easier than it is

The press' job is to write about stories that generate pageviews, since pageviews generate more advertising dollars. Failure and the grueling times don't really get too many pageviews. Success, money, glory, and the end result of hard work certainly does get pageviews. This skews us to think that raising money, selling your company, or launching is just so easy. I'd wager a fair amount of money that you will almost never hear a story titled:"Startup X Fails To Raise $2,500,000 Dollars" unless there is some juicy gossip backstory attached to it. Get back to work and close the RSS reader.

The real work starts at the keyboard and with customers.

If you're in a startup you're either making something or selling something. If you haven't made anything or sold anything, then I sincerely have no clue what you're doing at a startup. Sure there are operational tasks that need to be handled, but all founders can bear that burden. As a whole, founders + early employees need to make sure their actions have a direct impact on something be made and/or something be sold.

Not every product or feature launch is a winner

Remember Beacon? Remember Google Buzz? Remember Yahoo! Live? Remember AppleTV V1? Well, you might, but not for good reasons. Not every feature or product launch is going to be a slam dunk. Even the giants in our industry like Apple can have products launch that don't perform well. It's impossible to shoot 100%, but what matters is that you take 100% of the shots that you should be taking.

Fire over flash

Pretty interface and nifty features are not the path to success. They are certainly a great advantage to have, but the product also has to have fire behind it. If you have a pretty application that provides no real "fire" aka utility to the user, then it won't be used for long. Make sure you have fire before you have flash in your product.

Find Strength In Your Weaknesses

More and more, I'm finding out that my weaknesses are my strength. Weaknesses can be identified and attacked. If your company has a hole in its team, business model, or customer acquisition model, you can attack it head on. Find your weaknesses and figure out how to attack them in order to make your company stronger. It's simple: the less weaknesses you have, the stronger your startup becomes.

Be motivated by your pain

Some athletes hit their high points when they reach the area of most pain. The pureness of facing the most difficult parts of your journey should be the most rewarding as they allow you to level up. When Facebook first started in the college market, they didn't go after the schools where they could gain market share the easiest. Instead, Facebook actually went after universities where they would experience the most resistance and have the most pain ie- schools with existing social networks. If they could conquer this pain, they could easily conquer everything else.

Treat entrepreneurship like a privilege, not a right

I'm lucky to live in a country where entrepreneurship is something that anyone can get into. Many people often forget that other countries are not as lucky and have oppressive governments. We often talk about entrepreneurship as a way out of poverty, but this isn't even possible in some countries. Don't treat this as a lackadaisical experience. Many people would literally kill to be an entrepreneur, because it meant their survival. Be grateful for the opportunities you have and never take it for granted.

You must work for it every single of your day

Work/life balance is important, but there is no off switch for being an entrepreneur. You can't just turn it off and come back to it 3 weeks from now. If you really want to do this. If this is your destiny, which for many many people it just isn't, then it is something you have to keep at every single day of your life. Some are lucky enough that their first thing takes off. Your first, second, or even third thing might not take off. Stick with it and keep working at it every single day of your life.

Do not make excuses

Accomplishing something is a binary outcome. You either accomplished it or you did not. A lot of the times the end result will be the former, but don't sugercoat it. It happened for a reason and don't make excuses that act as scapegoats. Face success or failure head on. We often associate excuses with failure, but I think they can also be present in success as well. Though it's good to be humble, you shouldn't also make excuses for your success. Realize your what you did right and the hard work associated with it. Excuses are exactly just that- excuses. What other athletes and sports references have helped you become a better entrepreneurship? Instead of Michael Jordan, who might you pick and what has been their advice?

thousands of travellers have been stranded at Heathrow airport overnight, and hundreds more at Gatwick, as snow continues to disrupt much of the UK. _50487000_heathrow_sleeping304.jpg

There will be no flight arrivals at Heathrow on Sunday and only a handful of departures, while many Gatwick flights are affected.

Problems persist at airports UK-wide, while the Met Office is warning of icy roads across much of England and Wales.

More heavy snow is expected in eastern Scotland and north-east England.

Up to 10cm of snow are expected in these areas, and up to 20cm in hilly areas.

Forecasters said the UK was hit by extremely low temperatures overnight, with most parts of the country struggling to get above minus 5C, while fresh snow fell in eastern Scotland and north-east England.

Hundreds of thousands of Britons had been due to fly this weekend, according to travel association Abta, which estimated that four million people expected to go abroad..

Heathrow airport told the BBC that "a few thousand spent the night in the terminals" but said just four short-haul and three long-haul flights would leave on Sunday morning. It hoped to be operational on Monday.

Sue Kerslake spent the night on a terminal floor with her three young grandchildren after their Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong was cancelled.

Having arrived at the airport at 0800 GMT on Saturday, they sat on a plane for seven hours before being told it was not taking off.

"There were thousands of people in departures overnight and it got quite intense at times. The bars were open and some people were drinking and got quite nasty," she said.

Stuart Gash, from Swindon, who had been due to fly to New York for a Caribbean cruise with his wife and two children, said UK airports seemed unable to cope at the first sign of snow.

'Miserable'

He said: "There was no more than two inches of snow and yet the runway is totally covered. Why aren't they ploughing it, why aren't they gritting it, why aren't they salting it?"

Andrew Teacher, from Heathrow operator BAA, said it had invested more than £6m in the last year in technology to move snow and de-ice runways and that staff had been working through the night.

But he said: "There comes a point where you cannot do any more; when you're moving snow and it's freezing behind," adding that many planes had been frozen into parking spaces.

He apologised for the "miserable" situation but said problems had been caused by "an extreme amount of snow in a very short space of time" and safety had to be prioritised.

"Overnight we had hundreds of people drafted in to focus on helping passengers who have remained in terminals. We've given them blankets, water and food and are trying to make people as comfortable as possible."

The Independent's travel editor Simon Calder said very few of the 400,000 passengers due to fly out of Heathrow this weekend would get to their destinations. At Gatwick, the BBC's Helen Fawkes said 90,000 people should fly out on Sunday but that there had already been 50 cancellations.

A Gatwick spokeswoman said it was doing everything it could to "get passengers on their way".

"Passengers must check with their airline before setting out for the airport to reduce congestion and avoid disappointment," she said.

Airports in Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands are also suffering cancellations and delays.

Stansted, Luton, Exeter, London City, Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol and Southampton airports said flights would be subject to delays and cancellations throughout Sunday, while the runway at Jersey Airport was closed until at least 0915 GMT.

Infrastructure 'seized up'

Ryanair has cancelled 84 flights to or from UK airports, mainly in the London area.

In Northern Ireland freezing conditions continue to make travel difficult following some of the heaviest snowfall for 25 years - with more forecast.

Belfast International Airport has reopened, although knock-on effects have caused delays.

Monarch Airlines managing director Tim Jeans said reassessment of the UK's transport infrastructure was needed.

"We have not coped well. The infrastructure - not just at the airports but the road infrastructure - completely seized up. The M25 going towards Heathrow and Gatwick virtually impassable within an hour of the snow starting to fall."

On what is one of the busiest weekends of the year for travel and shopping, other problems caused by the weather include:

  • The AA said it dealt with 16,000 calls on Saturday, compared with 9,000 on an average pre-Christmas Saturday
  • There was some disruption to South West Trains and First Capital Connect services, although most other routes were now operating normally, according to National Rail Enquiries, which has provided a new passenger phone number - 08453 017 641
  • Sunday's sporting schedule was again badly affected, after wide postponements of football, rugby union and horse racing fixtures on Saturday
  • An urgent appeal is being made for blood donors, particularly those who are O negative, as stocks are running low
  • Companies have warned of a backlog of deliveries which may not reach customers before Christmas

On Saturday, Jon Caudwell, from the Highways Agency, said they were doing their best to keep major roads in England clear but needed help from motorists who should "really seriously consider" whether they needed to go out.

He said he was surprised at the level of traffic on the roads, given the advice not to travel. He said in some areas abandoned vehicles and jack-knifed lorries had blocked access for gritters.

A Department for Transport spokesman said: "The weather over the last 24 hours has been exceptionally severe. Government continues to monitor all aspects of the situation."

12166294678?profile=originalHon.Patrick Obahiagbon on Pa Enahoro
Certainly the fall of another titan.
Chief Anthony Enahoro's modus vivendi, whilst he peregrinated through this will-o-the-wisp of a three dimensional world, resonated with a divine halo of an iconic personage who was propelled by the PIRKEAVOTHIAN apothegm which urges man to realize "that the day is short and the work is great, " No wonder that from a very young age, he engaged in self abnegation and mortification of the flesh in a spartan, clinical and cerebral bid to salvage the Nigerian project even at the expense of his health infrastructure. He ceaselessly fulminated against vagabonds in power whose primus mobile had philistinic anchorage on a depreciably mindless crave for vacuous hedonism and ingratiating political megalomania. He must have been viscerally pained to note while he was at the departure lounge, that the ship of the Nigerian State was still nosediving and sliding into an eschewable oxbow lake and cataract and he must finally have wondered if the zoning debate currently going on is not another egregious insult by our elitist political class on the pauperized, sissfied and ossified sensibilities and sensitivities of our lumpen proletariat. The only way we can honour this great man who gave his all for Nigeria is for all progressive forces to extricate themselves from the arms of morpheus, with a view to continously dymistify, explode and pulverize the machivellian, mephistophelian, primitively accumulative and rabidly sybaritic propensities of our political class be it at the level of executive suzerainty or parliamentary olympian aloofness.
Adieu Pa Anthony Enahoro!!

Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon..

The “Teflon Don”, American rapper – Rick Ross is an exciting new addition to the MTV Africa Music Awards bill. The rapper along with Kenya’s P-Unit, South Africa’s Jozi and Nigeria’s Wande Coal will join previously announced performers DJ Arafat (Ivory Coast), 2Face (Nigeria), Daddy Owen (Kenya), Banky W (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa(DRC), Teargas (South Africa) and Cabo Snoop(Angola) on stage at the event.

This is Rick Ross’ first ever visit to Africa and we hear the rapper is very excited about the opportunity to perform here. Rick Ross is not just a performer but also a nominee as well. He is nominated in the Best International Category. Following the trend set by international nominees who performed at the MAMAs in prior years, it is safe to assume that Rick will be walking away with the award.

Rick Ross has been described by the New York Times as “one of rap’s most potent and creative forces”. The tattoo-loving, six-foot, larger-than-life rap figure first came to attention with “Hustlin”, his 2006 debut single. Influenced by artists like Luther Campbell and Notorious B.I.G, Ross, a.k.a. William Roberts, aimed to put Miami back in rap’s national spotlight and went on to do just that with his 2006 album “Port of Miami”, which went to number one on the Billboard album chart. Similar acclaim followed for “Trilla” (2007) and “Deeper Than Rap” (2009), while his 2010 album release “Teflon Don”, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, has garnered critical acclaim for its emotional depth, cinematic production, sleek, synth-heavy beats, and rich soundscapes. Ross is nominated in the Best International category at the MAMA awards.

Making their first appearance at the MAMAs, Best Group contenders P-Unit are going head to head against Uganda’s Radio & Weasle, South Africa’s Teargas and multiple MAMA winners and Nigerian music phenomenon, P-Square. As well as performing at the 2010 show, former MAMA winners Jozi are also nominated in the Artist of the Year category, where they are pitched against 2FACE, P-Square and Fally Ipupa. Wande Coal faces a tough race in the Best Anglophone category, where Ghana’s Sarkodie, Kenya’s Daddy Owen and South Africa’s Biz Nuz are also in the running...

The MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel takes place at the Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos on Saturday 11 December 2010 and will broadcast on MTV base (DStv Channel 322), MTV platforms around the world and partner TV stations from 18 December 2010.

The MTV Africa Music Awards 2010 is sponsored by Airtel in association with MasterCard. Arik Air is the official airline partner of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Airtel...

V. ABUBAKAR CASE STUDY: USING OFFSHORE COMPANIES

TO BRING SUSPECT FUNDS INTO THE UNITED STATES

Jennifer Douglas Abubakar, a U.S. citizen, is the fourth wife of Atiku Abubakar, the

former Vice President of Nigeria and a former candidate for the Presidency of Nigeria. This case

history examines how, from 2000 to 2008, Ms. Douglas helped her husband bring over $40

million in suspect funds into the United States, including at least $1.7 million in bribe payments

from Siemens AG, a German corporation, and over $38 million from little known offshore

corporations, primarily LetsGo Ltd. Inc., Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., and Sima

Holding Ltd.

Over half of the suspect funds, nearly $25 million, were wire transferred by the offshore

corporations into U.S. bank accounts opened by Ms. Douglas. For most of the time period

examined, the U.S. banks with those accounts were unaware of Ms. Douglas’ PEP status, and

allowed multiple large wire transfers into her accounts from the offshore corporations. As, over

time, each of the banks began to question the wire transfers into her accounts, Ms. Douglas

indicated that all of the funds came from her husband and professed little familiarity with the

offshore corporations actually sending her money.

Bank records indicate that Ms. Douglas used most of the funds placed into her accounts

to support a lavish lifestyle in the United States, paying credit card bills and household expenses

in the range of $10,000 to $90,000 per month, including substantial legal and accounting bills.

She also transferred funds to accounts she opened for the Gede Foundation, a nonprofit

corporation she established in 2002, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN), a university

that Mr. Abubakar founded in 2003, and whose name reflects its association with American

University in the United States.

An additional $14 million of the suspect funds were wire transferred by two of the

offshore corporations, LetsGo and the Guernsey Trust Company, to American University to pay

for consulting fees related to AUN. American University officials told the Subcommittee that

they understood the funds came from Mr. Abubakar and never inquired why the wire transfers

were sent by unfamiliar offshore corporations. At least another $2.1 million was wire transferred

by the Guernsey Trust Corporation to accounts controlled by Edward Weidenfeld, a U.S. lawyer

who provided legal services to Ms. Douglas, Mr. Abubakar, and AUN. Mr. Weidenfeld

explained that the funds paid for the Abubakars’ legal expenses and an account set up for AUN,

and that he had assumed the funds came from Mr. Abubakar.

Over the years, questions have been raised about the source of Mr. Abubakar’s wealth.

He spent twenty years in the Nigerian Customs Service, and then worked in the private sector for

ten years, before serving as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. While Vice President,

Mr. Abubakar was the subject of corruption allegations relating to the Nigerian Petroleum

Technology Development Fund. In December 2008, the U.S. Securities and Exchange

Commission alleged in a formal complaint against Siemens AG, a German company, that,

among other actions, in 2001 and 2002, Siemens wire transferred $2.8 million in bribe payments..

to a U.S. bank account belonging to Ms. Douglas as part of a scheme to bribe Nigerian officials.

In response to this and other legal actions, Siemens admitted to engaging in widespread bribery the committee that he surmised the Gede Foundation account was closed due to its

association with Ms. Douglas.1172

Chevy Chase told the Subcommittee that it tendered its resignation from the JDA Family

Trust in January 2006, and intended to close the account soon after, but Mr. Weidenfeld had

informed Chevy Chase that he was having a difficult time finding a replacement trustee.1173

Mr. Weidenfeld told the Subcommittee that he contacted the following institutions which

declined to take the trust: PNC Bank, Ashbridge Investments, J.P. Morgan Private Bank,

Samson Capital in New York, Neville Rody and Shaw, and Papamarkou Asset Management in

New York City, before finding a company that would take the trust.1174 An internal Chevy Chase

email noted: “At least five foreign financial institutions with no presence in the United States

have refused to take this business.”1175 Chevy Chase told the Subcommittee: “Under principles

of trust law, Chevy Chase Trust had a duty to continue as the corporate trustee until a

replacement trustee was found or Jennifer Douglas Abubakar and Francis Iwenjiora exercised

their powers under the trust to remove Chevy Chase Trust.”1176

$500,000 Wire Transfer to Faibros Investments. More than a year and a half after

Chevy Chase tendered its resignation from the JDA Family Trust and while the search for a new

trustee continued, a JDA Family Trust request for a $500,000 wire transfer raised new concerns

at the bank. In September 2007, the JDA Family Trust requested a wire transfer of $500,000 to

Faibros Investments FZ-LLC in Dubai, one of the United Arab Emirates.1177 In a September 17,

2007 letter to Ms. Douglas’ legal counsel, the Chevy Chase Trust Company declined to complete

the wire transfer. The Trust Company wrote:

“[O]ur primary business is the investment management of individual’s wealth. We do have

trust powers and serve as a fiduciary primarily for our clients for whom we manage their

investments. In a few limited circumstances we serve as directed trustee where another

entity, well known to us, is the investment manager.”1178

Mr. Weidenfeld’s legal counsel also told the Subcommittee: “With the Citibank account closing, a replacement

facility was urgently required. At approximately the same time, Chevy Chase Bank gave notice it would no longer

serve as trustee for the Jennifer Douglas Family Trust (‘the JDA trust’), and the money manager for the JDA trust

announced their intention to resign. The Abubakars requested that Mr. Weidenfeld find a new money manager, as

well as a new trustee to replace Chevy Chase.” 11/13/09 letter from Mr. Weidenfeld’s legal counsel, London &

Mead, to the Subcommittee, PSI-Abubakar_&_Weidenfeld-01-0023.

Meet the Top 7 of Glo Naija Sings – Find Out Who Is On TOP & Decide Who will EXIT this week

The new season of Glo Naija Sings is heating up!
Only 7 contestants are left in the competition and as the weeks go by, each contestant seems to be stepping up their game.
The theme of Sunday’s show was ‘Favourite Bands’, so all the contestants chose one song by their favourite duo or group and performed
for the Glo Naija Sings audience.

Before the performances began, the elimination took place – Shedrack was sent home as he had the lowest number of viewer votes last week.

The performances kicked off with Rasine. Rasine was rocking a pair of red leggings paired with a black and gold top with trimmings. She sang Westlife’s version of “You Raise Me Up”.

Up next were Da Brodas. The duo performed K-Ci & Jojo’s All My Life. Their performance was well received by the audience. Boma looked pretty in a knee-length draped blue dress and she sang “Stand Up For Love” by Destiny’s Child. Not sure if it was the song choice or
Boma, but this was one of our favourites that night.

Casey went for classic RnB and performed Shai’s “If I Ever Fall In Love”. Peace delivered a serene performance of Boyz II Men’s hit song “On Bended Knee” while Najite picked up the tempo when she sang En Vogue’s “Don’t Let Go” – her performance got the crowd quite excited as illustrated by one audience
member’s comment – “Najite, your energy performance was just intact“. The audience comments on Glo Naija Sings deserve their own show!

Ekeng closed the show with his rendition of Lighthouse Family’s “High”. Ekeng is one of our favourites on Glo Naija Sings and this is one of our favourite
songs, but the rearrangement of the track did not work well.

Huhuonline.com can authoritatively report that the management of Bank PHB has dragged M.R.S Holdings limited to court over non- payment of Fifty eight million dollars ($58M) loan it granted to the company to purchase Chevron Texaco in 2008. MRS is owned by Sayyu Dantata and his uncle, Aliko Dangote has 25 percent interest.

According to court documents, with reference number ID/1336/10, which was filed at the Ikeja High Court, BankPHB averred that in 2008 when Chevron Texaco a multinational petroleum exploration and marketing company decided to shed off its marketing operation business in Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Cameroun, Congo and Cote d’ Ivoire. However, after the verification of the value of the business, the price was fixed at USD 792M. ..

Due to the huge financial commitment involved in the acquisition of the business interests of Chevron Texaco in the aforementioned countries, Sayyu Dantata`s M.R.S Holdings approached the bank for credit facilities, in the sum of $50,000,000.00(fifty million dollars)

The bank avers that after it considered M.R.S`s proposals, it found it viable and was willing to support it, but made it clear to them that the financial outlay is not what it can provide alone, and impressed it on the company to ensure that a consortium of financial institutions be convinced to support them in the acquisition bid. ...

Consequently, a consortium of banks agreed to provide credit facilities to MRS. The banks include Fidelity Bank, First City Monument Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Oceanic Bank, Bank PHB, Union Bank and Zenith. Our checks reveal that at some point, Intercontinental, Oceanic and Zenith Bank opted out of the transactions, thus Ecobank was admitted to join the consortium of creditors.

Pursuant to the customer and bank relationships, the bank granted the facility of $50m as requested by Sayyu Dantata, after reaching an agreement with other creditors on the terms and conditions for making the credit facility available which were reduced into writing and codified in two documents namely; “the bridge facility agreement’ and ‘the supplement facility agreement’, availed to him in the sum of USD 50m for a period 360 days ,i.e. one year but Sayyu Dantata and his company took the benefit of the facility granted them by the bank and acquired the business interest of Chevron/Texaco but when the repayment plan expired Sayyu failed to live up to his obligations to pay back the money now running to USD58,242,411.64(fifty eight million, two hundred and forty two thousand, four hundred and eleven United States dollars, fifty four cent).

In addition, Bank PHB has obtained an order of Mareva injunction restraining all commercial banks in Nigeria from releasing or dealing in any manner whatsoever with any and all monies and/or whatsoever due to Sayyu Dantata and his companies from any account whatsoever, maintained by him, his agents, privies, subsidiaries, sister companies or the like with any commercial banks wherever situated up to the amount of the bank claim of the sum of US$58,242,411.64 or its naira equivalent at the prevailing Central Bank of Nigeria exchange rate being the close debit balance outstanding on his account with BankPHB as at 31st August,2010 in respect of the credit facility granted to his companies and guaranteed by him .

Aside from Bank PHB, Sayyu Dantata and Aliko Dangote and their companies owes Union Bank $300m,FCMB $90m,Ecobank $50m,Fidelity Bank $50m and another $100m from the consortiums of all these banks who are also set to move in to claim the huge amount of money loaned to them

However, in order not to pay back the loan, Sayyu was alleged to have contacted the new Managing Director of Bank PHB and other bank managing directors of the affected banks to allegedly grease their palms so they can do some “financial abracadabra” to write off the loan. This move, huhuonline.com gathered was rebuffed by the bank chiefs for fear of the Sanusi Lamido-led Central Bank of Nigeria which has been monitoring all the transactions of all the financial institutions with keen interest.

The question many people are asking is what they have done with the huge amount of money that if converted to naira is about N145b.Gathered that rather than use the money judiciously, it is alleged that they spent it on vanity buying posh cars, private jets, and expensive ponies and womanizing .Sayyu we learnt recently completed a massive mansion in Banana Island a new site for the upper class in Lagos State and also own a private jet.

Aside these, Sayyu who is also a polo freak spends fortune on his horses, which he uses to play the game and they are mostly of expensive Arabian and Argentine pedigree with each cost about US$10,000 and maintaining them is equally as expensive.

He is also alleged to spend mind-bugging fortune on his mistresses and one of them is allegedly to be Amina Maina, who doubles as a director in the company and to say that she is stupendously rich will be an understatement. She has houses both in Lagos, Abuja and London with assorted luxury vehicles and vintage cars. .

It is not only Sayyu’s M.R.S that is struggling to survive, another of his company Ovlas Trading based in Monaco, France which he owns with one of his friends Patrice Albertis is equally suffering the same fate.

It has been alleged that the company owes several banks across the globe and was recently liquidated. Like M.R.S, most of Ovla’s profits were used to acquire personal properties aside from lavishing it on women and throwing expensive parties in France.

Right now, Aliko Dangote is doing everything possible to distance himself from the trouble of Sayyu. Aliko Dangote claims ignorant of the huge loan collected by the company where he is a director and also guaranteed $100m loan though this is not the first time that Aliko would distance himself from his brothers at trying and difficult moments.

An example was when the Central Bank rolled out the names of influential and wealthy Nigerians who owed banks last year, Dangote quickly came out that CBN didn’t mention his own name but that of Ali Dangote who is his nephew and according to him then he claimed “it is important to note that Ali Dangote is different from Aliko Dangote, Ali Dangote is incidentally, the son of Sani Dangote.
