Huhuonline.com can disclose that the mastermind of the arsenal of weapon intercepted at the Apapa Warf, yesterday, has gone into hiding. The man identified
by huhuonline.com impeccable security sources, is an Iranian business
man, who has chains.

of business. However, our finding has revealed that the suspect is not
licensed to deal in arm in the federal republic of Nigeria.

For security reasons, huhuonline.com is not allowed to disclose his name,
but can reveal that the illegal arms dealer has sought temporary
residence at the Iranian Embassy in Nigeria.

When asked about their guest, an Iranian Embassy official confirmed he was
with them, but refused to say, if he would be handed over to Nigerian
security agency.

Huhuonline.com understands that the discovery of these arms has sent shockwaves across
Nigerian security agencies, as the weapons intercepted are considered
to be highly sophisticated, and are used mainly in operations of mass
destruction or war.
However,
the National Security Adviser, Gen. Aziza, who visited Apapa Wharf,
today, said, a thorough investigation must be carried out.

As huhuonline.com previously reported, the State Security Service (SSS)
intercepted containers loaded with rocket launchers, grenades and other
explosives in the main port of Lagos, weeks after deadly car bomb
attacks in the capital Abuja.

According to the SSS spokeswoman, Marilyn Ogar the 13 containers were intercepted
in Apapa Wharf, as part of tightened security measures introduced after
the Oct. 1st bomb blast.

Continuing, Ogar said,

“On opening the first container, the service operatives discovered rocket launchers, grenades and other explosives,”

“The weapons were concealed among crates of floor tiles and the paperwork
indicated that the shipment was made up of building materials”.

The other containers were still being searched, Mrs. Ogar added

WORKERS TO GO IN POWER Bonanza

Do the Math: 2.7million Per head !

N135 billion severance package ready For an epileptic Power Sector of Non Performing Staff ? They will still get jobs in the privatised companies being set up !

FOR the reform in the power sector to work, 50,000 workers in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) would be sacked. However, the Federal Government is planning to pay N135 billion compensation for the workers..

Presidential Adviser on Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, yesterday confirmed this to the House of Representatives.

He said the workers would be sacked before the Federal Government hands over the 18 companies carved out of PHCN to their new owners in the first quarter of next year.

He also informed the House that N135 billion ($900 million) severance package is being worked out by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for approbation in next year’s budget for the workers.

The Speaker of the House, Dimeji Bankole, was particularly worried since it has been established that lack of funds is no longer the bane of the power sector and since so much money has been pumped into the sector with no commensurate result.

In his presentation, the Speaker noted: “In the past two years, we have been doing all we can to ensure that the power sector is adequately funded yet, nothing has changed.”

Nnaji was in the Lower House with members of the Presidential Task Force to lobby the lawmakers on the need to come up with enabling legislations that would drive the reform.

Nnaji observed that the staff burden of the PHCN is worrisome. “There is a high operating cost in the company, gulping over N8 billion annually in which staff salaries and pension take 80 per cent of it”, he told the committee.

He said that 70 per cent of the cost of running the sector is incurred at the distribution business level. “The whole idea for the future of the sector is to cut a good deal for the workers for a more efficient power output for the country when the workers would have been been laid off. We would enter into an agreement with the new owners of the companies to absorb them.

There is no way the new owners would work without trained and experienced workers. So, most of the workers would be fully re-engaged after entering into a new contract with the new owners.

We are already working out a $900m (N135 billion) severance package for them with the CBN for appropriation in the next budget,” he declared.

He said that there were already strong interest from international investors in the country’s power sector.

Essar of India plans to put in up to $2 billion of investment if the sector is reformed to logical conclusion. There are also strong interests from financiers and operators all over the world for our proposed sale of PHCN,” he said.

According to him, the privatisation of the sector would not be possible if the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act 2005, which gives the time line for the sales of the entities carved out of the PHCN, is not adjusted to accommodate the proposed dates. They are made up of 11 Distribution Companies (Discos), six Generation Companies (Gencos) and one Transmission Company (Transco).

According to the Professor, the present PHCN is indebted to suppliers and other service providers to the tune of N90 billion and it is owed N100 billion by its customers.

He lamented that “there is a severe lack of business orientation in the PHCN, coupled with inadequate expertise, especially technical, but most prevalent at the distribution level of the company.”

The Chairman, House Committee on Power, Patrick Ikhariale, said there was no alternative to the privatisation of PHCN.

He, however, assured the presidential committee that lawmakers would give support to the Task Force. “We can assure you of our full support because the issue of power is of extreme importance to every Nigerian and we will work with you to see that the sector improves,” he said.

LIFE IS LIKE A GIFT

Today before you say an unkind word -

Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life -

Think of someone who went too early to heaven.

Before you complain about your children -

Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep -

Think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive

Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job -

Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another -

Remember that not one of us is without sin and we all answer to one MAKER.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down -

Put a smile on your face and thank GOD you're alive and still around.

Remain Bless!

LimeWire to shut down on court order

limewire_injunction.top.jpg
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A New York judge ordered LimeWire to stop distributing its file-sharing software, agreeing with the plaintiffs that LimeWire's service is used "overwhelmingly for infringement."
Judge Wood of U.S. District Court in Manhattan said that LimeWire "intentionally encouraged direct infringement" by users of its site, and also "marketed itself to Napster users, who were known copyright infringers "The LimeWire site shut down its service Wednesday, displaying only a legal notice announcing that that company "is under a court-ordered injunction to stop distributing and supporting its file-sharing software."
Nonetheless, the company insisted that it has not been permanently put out of business...
"While this is not our ideal path, we hope to work with the music industry in moving forward," LimeWire said in a prepared statement. "We look forward to embracing necessary changes and collaborating with the entire music industry in the future."
LimeWire CEO George Searle went further in a message posted on LimeWire's corporate site.
"The injunction applies only to the LimeWire product. Our company remains open for business," he wrote. "Our team of technologists and music enthusiasts is creating a completely new music service that puts you back at the center of your digital music experience. We'll be sharing more details about our new service and look forward to bringing it to you in the future."
LimeWire has been skirmishing for years with the music industry over its laissez faire approach to policing the copyright violations its peer-to-peer software enabled. More than a dozen plaintiffs pursued the case against LimeWire, which began four years ago. Sony (SNE) Music Entertainment, Virgin Records America, Inc., Arista Records, Capitol Records and Warner Brothers Records Inc. (Warner Brothers Records and CNNMoney.com are both part of Time Warner (TWX, Fortune 500).)

While the court order has halted further distribution of LimeWire's software, the networks that software tapped into -- Gnutella and BitTorrent -- remain active, and can be reached through other software applications.

At 7, this girl is in secondary school

She is, without a doubt, a genius. At seven, when many of her peers are still in primary three, little Atiyatullahi Arike Lawal has already gained admission into the Junior Secondary School (JSS).

Many people agree that the brilliant girl has performed a rare feat.

When schools in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital resumed for the 2010/2011 academic session recently, Atiyatullahi was the cynosure of all eyes as she joined other students at the Ikija High School, Abeokuta, where she had been admitted for her junior secondary education.

The first of her parents’ three children, Atiyatullahi isn’t just an academic whiz kid; she’s also a devoted Muslim. By the time she turned five, she had actually completed the reading of the Holy Quoran. Right now, she’s studying Arabic literature books.

When Daily Sun ran into the brilliant girl, she was so confident of what she wants to be in life. “With God on my side and with prayers, which I believe in, I hope to make a career in law. I want to be a lawyer so that I can be of great help to my immediate community in particular as well as serve mankind in general,” she said...

The girl’s dad, Mr. Lawal, said Atiyatullahi began manifesting uncommon brilliance when she took interest in reciting many books offhand. At the time, he recalled, she was just four.

“We discovered her at four because she used to recite so many things offhand, including many of the things she learnt in school. Initially, we were worried about her academic development, but later we discovered that she could read and understand English very well.

“Ordinarily, it is difficult to believe that at her age, she is already in JSS I, but that is the reality. During her primary education, particularly when she was between classes 2 and 4, she had double promotion. At that time she was at the Baptist Day School. That was between 2008 and 2009. That was where she also completed her education.”

Atiyatullahi’s parents are both teachers, and she started her education at a very young age. According to her dad, she started kindergarten when she was just two. She attended Ayodele Akode Memorial Nursery/Primary School as well as Almubarak Nursery and Primary School.

And when she was asked what her favourite subjects were, the girl retorted innocently: “My favourite subjects? I like English Language and Mathematics, but I prefer English Language.”

The girl never attended an Islamic school, but on March 15, 2008, she celebrated her Wolimat Al Quoran (completion of reading of the Holy Quoran). Her father actually took her through the study of the Islamic holy book himself. He had mastered the holy book at 25.

“I introduced her to the reading of the holy book precisely on January 6, 2007, and miraculously, she completed the introductory reading within two days. We are surprised that about a week to her fifth birthday, on November 25, 2007, she completed the recitation. She then started another aspect, which is Jurisprudence.

Lawal’s extraordinary intellectual abilities and mastery of the Quoran as well as her admission into the JSS I at such a tender age is already causing ripples, with many wondering whether such is actually possible.

An educationist, Mr. Olayiwola Oyenekan, while reacting to Atiyatullahi’s feat, noted: “It is a rare achievement, but the great challenge is for her to sustain it. A genius like that has the tendency to rubbish her records if she is not well guided, especially by her parents.

“An adage in Yoruba says it is not the beginning that matters, but the ability to sustain the rare feat. Her parents must ensure that she does not derail along the way. I recommend that they monitor her studies and ensure that she gets to the Promise Land, I mean the university, between the ages of 13 and 14.’’

An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Mohammed Tajudeen who commented on the ingenuity of the girl advised that her parents should guide her in the ways of God.

“She should be guided and shown the way of God,” he said. “She must be taught the principles of God and they should allow her move closer to God. She needs fervent prayers to actualize her dreams in life,” he said.

The Schwarzen Vogel, as the Mercedes-Benz T80 was nicknamed by the Fuhrer.
In the decade just before World War II broke out, two German car manufacturers were having their own private wars against each other. We're talking about Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union, which, in part thanks to a load of cash and a couple of direct orders coming from none other than Adolf Hitler himself, were set to become the most prodigious car manufacturers in the world.

At first, they battled in Grand Prix racing - the predecessor racing series of today's Formula One - with cars that were the most advanced and most powerful in the world for that era. From 1934 to 1939, no other car maker even came close to their compiled winning streak.

Cars like the Mercedes-Benz W25, W125 and W154 were either winning or losing against their arch enemies from Auto Union, in the form of the V12 and V16, Porsche-designed P-Wagens. Coincidentally, the teardrop shape of the mid-engine Auto Unions was somewhat based on the 1923 Benz Tropfenwagen, which was built whenFerdinand Porsche was working for Daimler a decade earlier.

The second battlefront for the 1930s war between Mercedes-Benz andAuto Union was something that spawned one of the greatest periods in automobile history from the point of view of land speed records.

Click to enlarge [Mercedes-Benz T80 – The Record Car That Never Was - pic 2]
This whole automotive lunacy started in 1933, when Adolf Hitlerbecame the chancellor of Germany and announced that his country would compete and win on the world’s racetracks in order to demonstrate their technological supremacy. For this to happen he also announced a hefty government subsidy for a racing program to be put in place by the best German manufacturer at the time.

At first, it was only Mercedes-Benz who had been selected to receive a government’s sponsorship of German marks. The then recently-formed Auto Union, along with Ferdinand Porsche and famed racing driver - and a friend of Hitler - Hans Stuck, managed to convince the future Fuhrer to divide the subsidy between Mercedes-Benz and themselves. This in turn spawned the era of the Silver Arrows, a period of racing wins and records that had never been duplicated since then.

Click to enlarge [Mercedes-Benz T80 – The Record Car That Never Was - pic 3]
Speaking of which, the subject of our story was the successor of a long line of record-breakingSilver Arrows, almost all of them being based on Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix cars. The first predecessor of the batmobile-like Mercedes-Benz T80 was the 1934 W25 streamliner, which was equipped with a supercharged inline-eight cylinder engine, capable of 430 horsepower and 318 km/h (197.6 mph).

The W25 rekordwagen's second iteration came in 1936, with the engine switching to a twin-supercharged V12, capable of 616 horsepower. This monster of an engine brought the car to a top speed of 372 km/h (231.2 mph), about the same as the Brabus E V12we tested a while back.

Click to enlarge [Mercedes-Benz T80 – The Record Car That Never Was - pic 4]
The third land speed record car was based on the W125 Grand Prix car but keeping the twin-supercharged engine. It was upgraded to offer no less than 736 horsepower, thus bringing the car's top speed to 433 km/h (269 mph), an attempt which it bested on a closed autobahn.

To further improve your trivia knowledge you should know that, as of 2010, Rudolf Caracciola's record of 432.7 km/h (269 mph) over the flying kilometer on 28 of January 1938, still remains the fastest ever officially timed speed on a public road. Not even the Veyron Super Sport has managed to beat it so far.

The forth and (almost) final record car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W154 Grand Prix car , which, because of newly-enforced racing regulations had to use a smaller twin-supercharged V12, capable of "just" 468 HP. Its top speed was a "modest" 400 km/h (248.5 mph).

Click to enlarge [Hans Stuck, former Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz driver.]
Hans Stuck, former Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz driver.
Following these rather small steps in creating the fastest car in history, Mercedes-Benz was left with few choices. So it happens that during their racing and record-breaking tenure, some little help came right from the enemy.

"For some years now, I have been planning the realization of my lifelong wish - the absolute land speed world record. I already spoke with Dr. Porsche quite some time ago in this matter, and he expressed his willingness to undertake the design of the vehicle, if it were to be built by you." These words were written by none other than Auto Union racing driver and Hitler protege,Hans Stuck, in a letter sent to none other than Wilhelm Kissel, who was chairman of the board at Daimler-Benz between 1930 to 1942.

The letter was dated August 1936, but it took another year or so until the two actually reached an agreement and the foundation of the absolute land speed record project began to be put into place. Unlike Mercedes-Benz's other record trials, this one was to completely obliterate any future attempts by others for decades to come. And it almost did.

Apart from having a close connection to the Fuhrer, Hans Stuck was counting on support for almost every part of the project. Ex-Daimler and Auto Union Ferdinand Porsche was going to be head engineer of the project, aircraft-builder Henkel was to build the exterior paneling for the car, while Ernst Udet - then head of Germany's Air Ministry Technical Office – was going to provide two Daimler DB 601 airplane engines. On top of that, two of Stuck's friends, SwissBaron de Blonay and Max Klinger were prepared to support much of the manufacturing costs, since this was technically a money-no-object project, and Mercedes-Benz was as cash-strapped as any other German company at the time.

During the record car's build-up, its specifications changed drastically and at one point even Hitler himself more or less became involved in the project. While the car was officially named the Mercedes-Benz T80, the Fuhrer nicknamed it the "Schwarzer Vogel" aka Black Bird, and was set to paint it in nationalistic colors, complete with German Adler (Eagle) and Hakenkreuz (Swastika) additions.

Click to enlarge [Mercedes-Benz T80 – The Record Car That Never Was - pic 6]
After a lot of international places were considered, Hitler dictated that the land speed record attempt would have to take place on German soil. He was of course envisioning theMercedes-Benz T80 as another propaganda triumph of German technological might and superiority over the rest of the world.

With the total project costing over 600,000 German marks, which was gigantic for those times, the "Schwarzer Vogel's" final technical specification was unholy, to say the least. The engine was derived straight from the DB 601 inverted V12 powering the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter plane.

With a massive displacement of 44.5 liters, the supercharged and direct-injection engine was now in its third development faze and was capable of a gargantuan 3,000 horsepower. The monstrous V12 ran on a mixture of methyl alcohol (63%), benzene (16%), ethanol (12%), acetone (4.4%), nitrobenzene (2.2%), avgas (2%), and ether (0.4%) with methanol-water injection for charge cooling and boost pressure. Completed in 1939, the car's targeted top speed was 750 km/h (466 mph).

The land speed record attempt with Hans Stuck at the wheel was set for January 1940, but the outbreak of World War II prevented its run. The preserved car can now be seen at the Mercedes-Benz World museum in Suttgart.

Fire razes new Benin market

Goods and properties worth millions of naira were yesterday destroyed in a fire which gutted parts of the popular New Benin Market, Benin City. The cause was unknown as at the time of this report...

More than 50 shops stocked with household and food items, which stretched from Eki-Edo Street were affected by the inferno, with about 10 shops burnt beyond recognition by the time the fire service got to the scene.

At the scene, men of the Supply and Transport Unit of Nigerian Army were seen putting out the flames, which still emanated from some of the goods.

Traders whose shops were affected by the inferno wailed uncontrollably as they moved to salvage what was left of their means of livelihood, and youth from the community joined the soldiers to put out the fire in some of the shops not badly affected.

One of the traders, Ignatus Nnabuefe, who deals in baking materials, told journalists that he was at his shop in the morning to drop some goods he just bought, after which he decided to go home after the compulsory morning's sanitation exercise in the market, only to be called back minutes later that his shop was on fire.

"And by the time I came here, everything I owned was gone; I was not able to retrieve anything from the fire, not even the goods I bought new this very morning to sell and which is very painful because I just dropped them there," lamented Mr. Nnabuefe.

Another trader who spoke amidst tears, Tochukwu Abieke, said her family lost everything they had laboured for, as they lost all the goods in their three shops which belonged to her, her mother, Lois, and her father, Patrick.

Omoregieva Gbajumo, the Oredo local government chairman, who was at the scene of the fire incident, praised the efforts of the community youth and traders who used their combined efforts in putting out the fire, thereby preventing it from spreading to other parts of the market.

Mr. Gbajumo promised that government will investigate the cause of the fire and also assured the traders who lost their goods of possible compensation.

LASU VC to face probe over embezzlement

The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State, Lateef Hussein is currently battling between the devil and the deep blue sea, and if information reaching Huhuonline.com are anything to go by, he might be eased of his position any moment from now. Aggrieved lecturers of the institution who could no longer bear the daily torture they face as a result of his alleged high handedness spilled the bean this evening at the Lagos State House of Assembly to the amazement of the legislators present at the day's sitting.

Among allegations leveled against him are that he misappropriated several billions of naira given by the State as subvention to the institution between 2005 and now.
He was also accused of appointing his cronies most of whom have long retired from acting service and imposing contract staff as heads of departments and faculties.
Despite the efforts of the State government. Regarding the school, the institution does not have any dedicated library or laboratory. It has also not had any physical structure since the VC assumed office..

As a result of his dictatorial tendencies, LASU, once regarded as one of the best institutions in the country in terms of Law and other courses in the institution now has 10 courses denied accreditation by the National Universities Commission.

The affected courses include Law, Economics, Marketing, Chemical and Polymer Engineering, Accounting, Banking and Finance, Political Science, Sociology, Business Administration and Management Technology.
The NUC, the lecturers claimed would be visiting the school in November this year for another round of denial of accreditation of another 26 courses.
They accused Hussein of hounding several lecturers in the school making them run for their dear lives.

Chairman of the institution's branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Dr. Kabir Akinyemi, also accused the Vice Chancellor of sitting on the promotion of the lecturers since 2005.

As at when he became the VC,the institution was said to have about six professors in the faculty of Law, but this is no longer the case as the only one currently remaining, Prof. Olusegun Yerokun, is a retired lecturer who is also on contract and now heads the faculty as the dean.

The institution's Director of Academic Planning is manned by one Mr. Olanrewaju John, who was appointed and made a level 14 staff with just a Bachelor of Art(BA) and barely six years experience for a job that should be handled by a Professor.
Though, they did not mention the courses that may face accreditation problems next month, it was learnt that the College of Medicine might be affected as the institution also makes use of contract staff.

When asked to defend himself, the VC who was shaking and stuttering, blamed the entire situation on the school's senate, which he has allegedly pocketed and has continued to influence.

While accusing the Vice Chancellor of not been able to handle the institution, the lawmakers reminded him that apart from the N17 billion granted the institution by the state government, the government had not reneged in its commitment to the school.
They therefore resolved to hire the services of a competent accounting firm to probe the administration's spending so far, while the House decides on what action to take.
The Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, also stated that they would not be influenced by anybody in the course of investigating the issue as the House had severally warned the Vice Chancellor to desist from ruining the school aground.
Investigations revealed that Prof. Hussein would have been sacked before now, but for the constant intervention of the former Governor of State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was said to have appointed him.

What do you want?

Hello 9ija**.;)

What DO you want?

It's one of the most powerful questions I know.

And it's a tough one to answer.

Pretty much just as soon as you get old enough to think... you have people telling you what THEY want.

Parents, partners, spouses, children, friends, bosses, colleagues, customers and clients... they've all got opinions about what's best foryou.

And sometimes their requests and demands can feel like a swarm of mosquitoes buzzing around you demanding attention.

And if you're not clear on what you want, you have little protection against the blighters - what others want becomes very hard to resist.

So what can you do about it?

Here's an exercise to help get clear on what you want.

1. Find some time and space for yourself.
It doesn't need to be much - five minutes in a room, ten minutes in a coffee shop, a 15 minute walk around the neighborhood.

2. Connect with your core values, those ways of being that are at the heart of you being at your best.
If you're not quite sure what they are - and you'd be like most peopleif that's the case - then start to imagine what they might be now. Ifyou think back to "peak moments" in your life, times you felt you wereon top of the world, then you'll see some clues as to what they mightbe.

3. Get clear on the situation at hand.
You need context before you can decide on what you want. Is this aboutwork? A relationship? Your own self-care? Something else? What's thechallenge or situation or struggle you might be facing?

4. Imagine outrageous success.
Go on, amp it up. Or to put it another way: If you could not fail, whatwould total and fabulous success look like? Don't get caught up in the"how would I get there". Just let your imagination go on what outrageoussuccess looks like.

5. Clarify your minimum level of success.
This is the bottom line, the "if nothing else, then this at least."Don't sell yourself short. And equally, make sure the "bottom line"really is just that. This is where you draw the line in the sand.

6. Tap into your heart and find the sweet spot of what you want between those two end points.
Sit with it for just a moment and get as clear as possible as to what itis you want, what it looks like, feels like, tastes like. The cleareryou can make it, the easier it will be to start planning on how to getthere.

So... What do you want?

Denrele denies being Charley Boy’s gay lover

Charley Boy and Derenle

Area Fada, Charley Boy, has been associated with a lot of negative – and positive – things, but never before has he been called a homosexual. That is up until now.

A romantic picture of Charley Boy kissing Denrele has been circulating on the Internet for a while, and it has made many believe that both of them are involved in a sexual relationship.

But Denrele told Life and Beat that he didn‘t owe anybody any explanation.

“If not that I know you, I would have told you I don’t owe you any explanation. I just think that some people are out to tarnish my image. Call it Photoshop, call it publicity stunt or whatever the picture is, people just want to tarnish my image.”

But to those who he feels are out to tarnish his image, Denrele said, “I’m not bothered in anyway. They are just making me popular. The story is not affecting me in anyway. I have been receiving calls from all over the world about this same picture. I’m not gay, but I don‘t think I owe anybody any explanation.”

In his latest exclusive interview with Eurosport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger discusses how important it was for Manchester United to keep hold of Wayne Rooney, and what would have been at stake for the club if he had left.

376,http%3A%2F%2Fa323.yahoofs.com%2Fymg%2Fwenger_uk%2Fwenger_uk-889768257-1288020346.jpg%3Fym6Vz.DDMYk._MnI?v=2Were you surprised that Wayne Rooney is staying at Manchester United after the media talk?

It is a bit surprising because when you say publicly that your player is likely to leave, it means you have accepted the idea that he will do so.

A message to say: 'Come around the table, we are ready to sell the player.' So it is a bit surprising that they changed their mind..

It seems that United became aware of the consequences for the fans and the atmosphere inside the club if he did leave - especially considering the rise of Manchester City. It would have given them the reputation of being a declining club in comparison to the upwardly-mobile Citizens.

Afterwards, they had to take into account the impact signing Rooney to a new contract would have upon them, because it is going to be a big financial change. It means they have let Rooney have what he wants - and they are also going to be in trouble when it comes to renewing the contracts of the other players.

So the club's reputation was at stake?

When you let everybody know that you allowed your best player to leave at 25 years of age, rather than 30, it means that somehow there are clubs stronger than yours.

When you sell a player, you must consider what you are losing; the player himself, of course, but in addition all the consequences for people who follow the club. By that I mean the media, fans, the club's reputation and the indirect effect upon the other top players at the club, who may think: 'If the best players are leaving, what we are going to do now?'. So everyone at the club could start worrying.

Could the deal have been done in order to sell him for more money next June?

That is a really good question. However, if they sign him to a new contract for five years then sell him in June, it will be worse than if they had let him go now.

Were you convinced he was going to leave?

Yes, because when the club said they would talk about a transfer, I assumed they were ready to sell him.

If he had left, do you think it would only have been for another English club?

No, I think he might have moved anywhere in the world. Surely they would have been more open to a foreign club coming in for him than an English one - because the only domestic rival who could afford to buy him was their neighbour.

Do you think that he had to leave, considering the public opinion about his problems outside of football?

No, because people are focused on what happens on the field. What happens in a player's private life only feeds the scandal pages of the newspapers.

If you are 12 years of age, you only look at his performances on the pitch. You like him because he is able to do things you cannot do - and you want to copy him. You don't care about how he is living off the pitch.

Can he change the opinion of United fans?

Trust me: in this job, the only thing which changes everything is your performance on the pitch.

You could be the nicest, most elegant and polite guy in the world off the pitch - but if you are bad on it, everybody is going to hate you.

You can be unpleasant off the pitch, but if you are an extraordinary player, people will forgive you anything. It may not be fair, but it is the reality. People pay to see special things, and if you manage to give it to them, they enjoy it.

Would you have liked to sign him for Arsenal?

We never thought about it because we have enough people able to play up front. Moreover, if Manchester United are not able to pay his contract, Arsenal cannot even think about it.

So it means that he will keep scoring against you as he did in the past?

No, it doesn't mean he will keep annoying us - it just means that he will keep trying to annoy us. We will try to prevent him.

He likes to score against Arsenal.

Yes. He is world class player.

CNN creator Ted Turner Visits Nigeria

220px-Ted_Turner_LF.JPGAs Nigeria celebrates its 50th anniversary, UN Foundation Founder and Chairman Ted Turner is in Nigeria from October 24-25, 2010 to deliver a message to local leaders that Nigeria must keep up the fight against disease by continuing to leverage the power of modern vaccines. "Working together, I know we can finish the job on polio," said Turner. The UN Foundation is pointing to recent progress in Nigeria as proof that vaccines are key to eradicating polio and reducing measles worldwide.

Ted Turner, UN Foundation President Timothy E. Wirth, and UN Foundation Board Member Andrew Young are visiting Nigeria to meet with government and community leaders to learn firsthand about the power of public-private partnerships aimed at improving children's health. Their visit comes at the end of a week-long Board meeting in Africa where the Foundation's Board members called for increased participation by the private sector and civil society to maximize what the UN and governments can achieve together in tackling global challenges.

"Nigeria has made tremendous progress toward eradicating polio through partnerships with community and government leaders that encourage parents to have their children immunized," said Ted Turner. "With support from leaders like the Sultan of Sokoto, we are on the verge of achieving the first great humanitarian victory of the 21st century - the complete elimination of a disease that once afflicted millions. By building on the success of partnerships like these, we can eliminate measles and protect children from other vaccine-preventable diseases to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)."

As a UN MDG advocate, Turner stressed that the country's recent progress in stopping polio is a testament to Nigeria's power to accelerate progress in achieving the MDGs. Set in 2000 by the United Nations, the MDGs
tackle the biggest problems facing the world today - these include global poverty, women's and children's health, hunger, and education.

Last year Nigeria reduced cases of polio by 98 percent with only eight cases confirmed in 2010, as compared to nearly 400 in the fall of 2009. This success is a result of the critical work of the Council of Amirs formed by the Sultan of Sokoto and the commitment of government leaders to assure that everyone eligible for a polio vaccination receives one.

While in Nigeria, Turner, Wirth, and Young will visit with the Sultan of Sokoto on Sunday, October 24. The meeting will include other religious, traditional, and civil society leaders who have played an active role in promoting immunization efforts.

Nigeria will hold a national measles immunization campaign in early 2011. The campaign will also include polio vaccinations and will build on the successful work of the polio eradication efforts to prevent measles deaths. Nigeria's government leads most African countries by financing over two-thirds of costs for measles campaigns.
Turner and Wirth will also hold meetings in Abuja on Monday, October 25 with Hajiya Amina Az-Zubair, who serves as Senior Special Assistant/Advisor on the MDGs to President Goodluck Jonathan. The UN Foundation leaders will also meet with the Nigerian Council of Governors, which represents the governors of the 36 states that make up the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Created in 1998 with Ted Turner's U.S. $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities, the UN Foundation connects people, ideas and resources to help the UN solve global problems. Since 2005, the UN Foundation, Nigerian Government and partners in the Measles Initiative have supported measles campaigns costing more than $100 million and developed public-private partnerships to support UN projects in Nigeria. These efforts are carried out by the Nigerian government, UN Agencies, and leading Nigerian business and nongovernmental organizations.

s-MUGABE-AFFAIR-large.jpgZimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's wife is rumored to have had a five year affair with one of the president's best friends, a South African newspaper reported on Sunday.

Mugabe was told of the alleged affair by his sister, Sabina, as she lay on her deathbed in the Zimbabwean city of Harare after a short illness. Reports stated that a trusted bodyguard, Cain Chademana, who was present at the time of death and is said to have admitted to also knowing about the affair, has been found poisoned.

Grace Mugabe, who is 41 years younger than the president, has been accused of extramarital affairs before. One purported paramour, Peter Pamire, died mysteriously in a car accident, while another, James Makamba, fled Zimbabwe.

Gideon Gono, the most recent man to be linked with Grace, was personally appointed as the head of the country's Reserve Bank by Mugabe in 2003. He is the first politician from Mugabe's inner circle to be romantically linked to the president's wife, which is said to be fueling Mugabe's anger.gono-bob-praying.jpg

President Mugabe was described as "devastated" at his sister's funeral, although whether this was due to her death or her shocking revelations was unknown. Grace has been embroiled in family feuding over her husband's wealth as Mugabe, 86, struggles with poor health. Some have said that the affair accusations are part of a campaign to discredit Grace. ..

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace has reportedly been having a secret affair with central bank governor, Gideon Gono.

South African Sunday Times newspaper reports that Grace Mugabe- who is 41 years younger than Zimbabwe’s 86-year-old president,
has allegedly spent the last five years cuckolding him with Gideon Gono, her husband’s financial adviser and key politically ally.

The report says that Mugabe’s sister Sabina warned her brother before she died that he was being betrayed by two of the most important people in his personal and political life: his wife and his personal banker, a pivotal member of his regime.Photo:Mugsy & Gono

The couple would meet as often as three times a month either at Grace’s dairy farm or in expensive hotels in South Africa as well as on foreign trips to Asia.

Mugabe is said to have learnt the shocking news as he sat by his dying sister’s bed in July. He is said to have left the meeting “devastated” although initially refusing to believe the allegations.

The president later consulted his most trusted bodyguard, Cain Chademana, who had sat in on the meeting with Sabina.

The bodyguard reportedly said, like other members of the secret service, he had also heard the rumours.

Particularly infuriating for Mugabe however, was the fact that he had encouraged the friendship thinking the pair was discussing mutual business interests.

Chademana – who is said to be the source of the story by intelligence officers quoted by the newspaper – has since lost his life amid suspicions that he was poisoned.

His body, according to The South African Sunday Times, was handed to his family for burial at the end of August. The Sunday Times alleges no autopsy was carried out.

The newspaper claims officials had hoped the secret affair would be buried with Chademana but renegade officers in the intelligence services, unhappy with conditions of service, have started talking.

Still, it is not the first time Grace has been linked to affairs behind her ageing husband’s back.

One former lover, Peter Pamire, died in a mysterious car accident. Another, James Makamba, fled the country.

But never before has Grace been romantically involved with a politician in Mugabe’s inner circle. And never before has a man so close to the president risked allowing it to happen, the South African Sunday Times says.

Gono has known Mrs Mugabe, who married the president in 1996, for at least 15 years and they are partners in a number of business enterprises.

He is a pillar of the Zanu PF party that has held on to power in Zimbabwe since its 1980 independence from Britain.

As one of Mugabe’s most trusted friends, he has served since 2003 as head of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe – a period that saw the country’s currency suffer hyperinflation of more than a billion per cent a year.

While many of Zimbabwe’s desperately poor people struggle to find enough food to eat, Gono lives in a 47-bedroom mansion with swimming pool, gym and its own mini theatre.

Yesterday a source close to the banker confirmed that he and the first lady were lovers and claimed they had planned a life together after Mugabe’s death.

The senior official in Gono’s office told South Africa’s Sunday Times newspaper: ‘Mugabe trusted Gono. He even thought our boss was taking care of the first lady, keeping a protective eye on her so that she could not again be adulterous.’

Mugabe’s relationship with Grace, his former secretary, is itself founded on infidelity.

Two of their three children were born when Mugabe was still married to his popular first wife, Sally, who was battling a kidney disease from which she died in 1992.

we can now tell you that Kunle Oluwaremi is the winner of this Year's GUS

Twenty-three year old Ekiti state born Oluremi Oyekunle, last night emerged season 7 winner of the Nigerian Breweries sponsored reality show, the Gulder Ultimate Search.

He emerged a winner after a tension soaked and pulsating challenge that left viewers gasping for breath. The journey towards the final showdown began when Chukwuma Anyanwu, 21, lost out in the day’s second challenge allowing Adeleke, Atiku and Oyekunle to make the final.

The final challenge would take a combination of mental and physical strengths to scale through, task master Bob had told the finalists as this was also a crucial factor in determining who the ultimate hero would be.
After the countdown, Atiku was the first to shoot forward. He was able to hook his bundled plates, climbed over the wooden wall, landed safely and ran straight into the bush to sort out his prototype box, and began to set the two boxes that were needed to complete the scale with which he will climb up to cut down the suspended bridge that leads straight to the champion zone.Whoever got to the champion’s spot would lift the hero’s flag that was kept on the floor there to signify his triumph.

On the trail of Atiku was Oyekunle, Adeleke on the other hand, was left behind at the start zone, struggling to hook his bundled plates. Adeleke eventually hooked the plates and caught up with the two. To the chagrin of all, Adeleke was the first to construct one of the two boxes while others were still fumbling with theirs.

However, after about thirty minutes on the box, the ever smiling Oyekunle shocked the anchorman Bob-Manuel when he suddenly announced that he had completed all his boxes. At this time Adeleke and Atiku couldn’t just figure out the way out. The first box that Adeleke earlier constructed collapsed in his face and he became aghast. The anxiety that had accompanied the final showdown melted away at exact 4.30pm, when the slimmest of the three warriors Oyekunle Oluremi ran wildly to the beam, took his machete, set his three boxes, climbed over the boxes, cut the rope that tied the bridge to the beam, ran across it like a wild cat, picked the pole.Jumped inside the champion spot and hoisted the pole with the champion’s flag. .

Kunle’s countenance changed, his face contoured he was shouting like a cry, running madly across the field, asking rhetorically, “Am I the Ultimate Hero, Am I dreaming?” “Ah! Ah! I am The Last Man Standing”.The highly elated Bob-Manuel, the four times Gulder Ultimate Search presenter, in the heat of the euphoria, held Kunle’s hands and declared, “by the power bestowed on me by the Council of Elders in Omo Forest, I declare you, Oyekunle Oluremi, as the Ultimate Hero we have been searching for this past 21 days, Therefore you are pronounced the winner of the 2010 Gulder Ultimate Search. Take the King’s goblet, go and celebrate.

The leader of the 33 men rescued from a collapsed Chilean mine spoke to reporters for the first time late Thursday about how he kept them going in the 17 days before they were
found.

Luis Urzua, 54, who was foreman at the San Jose mine quickly imposed his authority after the cave-in on Aug. 5 left the men trapped deep underground.

A topographer by training, Don Lucho -- as his men called him -- mapped out the area where they were trapped, sorted the men into three eight-hour shifts and organized the rationing
of food -- two spoonfuls of tuna and half glass of milk every 48 hours.

It was those actions that kept the men alive until a rescue probe managed to reach them on Aug. 22 and the story of the men’s survival first flashed around the world.

But Urzua, the last man rescued from the mine on Wednesday night, said all he did was be straight with the men and lay out the options before them.

“You just have to speak the truth and believe in democracy,” he said. “Everything was voted on. We were 33 men, so 16 plus one was a majority.”

Another survivor Richard Villarroel, 26, told the Washington Post that Don Lucho constantly encouraged the group.

He said: “Every day, he told us to have strength. If they find us, they find us, if not, that’s that.”
Villarroel feared in the days before the miners were found that he would never get to see his unborn child. “You just had to rough it. Every 24
hours eat a small piece of tuna. Nothing else. We got skinnier and
skinnier ... We were waiting for death.”

Villarroel was the 28th man winched up from the depths in Wednesday’s dramatic rescue, watched live on TV around the world. He said that on their meager rations and with only oil-tainted
water to drink they quickly lost weight and muscle mass as they waited
to be rescued.

But it was only after the rescue teams far above finally got through to them that they addressed the subject of cannibalism..

“At that moment, no one talked about it,” he said. “But once it was over, it became a topic of joking, but only once it was over, once they found us.”
