WHEN THEY DONT HAVE CHAIRS TO SIT OR NEPA TO POWER THEM !

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved N3.6 billion for the purchase of computers and Internet connectivity in 290 schools across the country.

The project will largely be handled by ZINOX technologies. Minister of information and communications, Dora Akunyili, who said this while briefing State House correspondents after the weekly FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the items were meant “to create a generation of Nigerians with broad base theoretical and practical knowledge of ICT, who can leverage on this when they step into the labour market.”

Mrs. Akunyili said the contract also provides for two laptops for teachers for teaching purposes; one Internet server and broadband Internet connections with two years of guaranteed bandwidth payment.

Others are the provision of solar power, refurbishment and securing of equipment storage room, provision of wireless mesh and charging platforms for each of the schools.

She further explained that each benefiting school would have a wireless mesh that would connect all the computers and make the school a wireless environment, such that the access devices could be used anywhere within the school environment..

Wiring rural areas

Mrs Akunyili said this would facilitate usage of the students’ devices in any classroom within the school, thereby enabling learning with the aid of ICT.

“The initiative was a project aimed at facilitating connectivity in government schools, libraries and institutions in under-served, un-served and rural areas to broadband Internet,” she said.

“Under the programme, each school will receive equipment and facilities that would link them to high speed Internet, and they would be encouraged to share these facilities with their surrounding communities on a commercial basis to support maintenance and ensure sustainability.”

The minister said the project, to be handled by the Ministry of Information and Communications through its Universal Service Provision Fund, would be completed in 36 weeks.

An Edo State House of Assembly 2011 aspirant, Eme Zuru Ayortor, 52, has been apprehended by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for attempting to smuggle 2.12kg cocaine in his stomach.

The suspect, who is a pharmacist, was nabbed at the screening area for passengers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, while trying to board a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt.

Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesperson for the anti-narcotics agency, disclosed that the politician is one of the high profile suspects nabbed by the NDLEA at the airport in recent times..

“After undergoing observation, the pharmacist-turned-politician excreted 100 pieces of powdery substance that tested positive to cocaine, weighing 2.12kg. The quantity also makes him the highest drug ingesting suspect since January 2010,” he said.

According to Mr. Ofoyeju, the suspect claimed to have relied on his physique and social status to evade arrest, stressing that the strategy was not successful for the suspect this time.

“A preliminary check on him revealed that he was preparing himself financially for the forthcoming election into the Edo State House of Assembly,” said Ofoyeju.

Ahmadu Giade, chief executive of the agency, assured that the police is determined to expose anybody dealing in narcotic drugs under any guise.

“We do not look at faces in conducting drug screening, and we are not moved by credentials. Whoever is dealing in narcotics shall be exposed and prosecuted in line with the agency’s act,” he said in a statement.

The suspect

According to the agency, the suspect, Mr. Ayortor, taught at the Baptist High School, Benin City, before going to the United States where he studied Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin, adding that he returned to Nigeria in 2006, and the following year contested for a seat at the Edo State House of Assembly but he lost.

Hamza Umar, airport commander for the agency, disclosed that the case is under investigation, adding that follow-up operations on the development have been positive.

“A follow-up operation into the case is yielding very positive results, and at the appropriate time, more facts shall be released to the public,” he said.

The suspect, in a statement from the agency, disclosed that he lost all he had as a pharmacist when he contested the 2007 elections in Edo State.

“I contested the 2007 House of Assembly election in Edo State and lost. I also lost all my savings as a practising pharmacist in that election. Now, the coast is clear, and I am being favoured to run in 2011 in my party. That was how I got involved in this mess. I needed to reposition myself for the 2011 election financially. I thought that with my position and appearance, there will be no problem at the screening. I do not know where to start from here,” he lamented.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ofoyeju disclosed that the agency had in times past arrested a doctorate degree holder, an ex-counsellor, and a family at the Lagos airport. He added that the politician and drug peddler will soon be charged to court.

basketball star dies in US as Car Crash claims another Naija Young Star.A few weeks ago the death was announced of HipHop star Dagrin.

Agency Reporter

Tobi Oyedeji, a Ni.ger.ian power forward slated to begin his collegiate career at Texas A&M next season, died in the US on Sunday due to injuries sustained in a car accident. Early reports suggest Oyedeji was driving a car involved in a two-vehicle accident in which one other person was killed.

Oyedeji played high school ball in Bellaire, Texas, and made the All-Greater Houston team last season as a senior. He was considered a top-100 recruit in his class. Rivals ranked him as the No. 18 power forward in the class of 2010.

"The world has lost a great kid today (Sunday)," said Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon in a statement on Oyedeji's tragic death.

"Tobi epitomised the term student-athlete. He was a very good student. He worked hard in the classrooms and on the basketball court and he was a terrific basketball player. This is difficult to understand and today is a very sad day. My heart aches for his mom and dad. Tobi was an only child and I would like everyone to pray for Tobi's parents."

Another account of his death says Oyedeji dropped his last friend off after prom night, called his father Kunle Oyedeji and told him he was on his way home early Sunday morning. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound, 18-year-old power forward, who was destined to be an impact player for Texas A&M in the fall and committed to studying engineering, never made it to his house.

He was in a head-on collision shortly after the phone call home and died after attempts at life-saving surgery weren't successful Sunday afternoon..

Hal Pastner, who runs Houston Hoops, an AAU program Oyedeji played for, was crushed as well when he was told the news on Sunday afternoon. Turgeon said Oyedeji was the first player he recruited when he took the job three years ago. "This has been a three-year relationship, we were really close," Turgeon said.

"From the first day he came to our camp, I knew he was coming to Texas A&M. He was going to be an engineer. This was the perfect place for him."

Turgeon last saw Oyedeji at a workout in April and said he told his assistant coaches that Oyedeji was going to help the Aggies quite a bit next season. Oyedeji had been on campus apparently five to seven times a season in the past three years.

"He was going to be a big part of our program," Turgeon said. "More than just basketball, his personality, his character, he would have helped us in so many ways."

* Police, APCs deployed on the streets VP nominee and Kaduna State governor, Namadi Sambo advertisement * How Sambo won Jonathan The choice of Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo of Kaduna State by President Goodluck Jonathan as his nominee for the vice presidential slot has sparked tension in Kaduna, prompting the police to deploy troops and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the streets yesterday. Sunday Vanguard can also report that the president’s choice of Alhaji Sambo, an architect, is a product of the president’s personal interaction with, and knowledge of, the governor from their time as members of the committee on power set up by the late President Umaru Yar’Adua. Some Islamic clerics and youths are said to be ones engineering the tension. Their grievance, it was gathered in Kaduna, was not much about Alhaji Sambo but the fact that the affairs of the state will now be run by a Christian and the current deputy governor, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa. Mr. Yakowa is from the predominantly Christian Southern Kaduna. Some imams were said to have openly complained about the development.. On Friday some text messages began to articulate in the state one of which said: ‘Suhanallah, this means that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has won. Their agenda of taking over Kaduna and Nigeria has succeeded. “Namadi is also not a prominent Muslim. Appointing him shows clearly that the Obasanjo agenda of shifting power to the Christians in both Kaduna and Nigeria is fast becoming a reality. “All Muslims need to rise in prayers and in tigfar so that Allah in His infinite mercies may change this arrangement and put these enemies of Muslims and Islam to shame.” The police reacted promptly be deploying men to the streets on Friday ahead of the Jumat prayers. Policemen drove around the flash point in their APCs. The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Tambari Yabo Mohammed, also held a meeting with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state yesterday and reportedly directed them to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order in their areas. Besides, Muslim and Christian leaders in the state were mandated to educate their followers on democratic principles. SOKAPU, NDPF, NANS welcome his choice But the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), the Northern Democratic Peoples Forum (NDPF) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) hailed Gov. Sambo’s choice. “The nomination of Sambo as vice president will certainly be of greater benefit to the generality of the Nigerian populace as he is a detribalized fellow, who believes in the corporate and peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious or ethnic affiliations”, the NDPF said, while SOKAPU “rejoiced with the new Vice Presidential designate, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo by President Goodluck Jonathan,” adding that Sambo was not only a “suitable replacement but a worthy honour to the union and Kaduna state”. SOKAPU National President, Professor Haruna Ishaya Nock who spoke for the union said, “We are rejoicing with Arc Namadi Sambo and it is a welcome development because our state have been recognized in the federation. This is a good omen and would bring about more other development to the Reacting to the development, the Kaduna state Police Spokesman, Deputy Superintendent, Aminu Lawal in an interview said, “the Commissioner of Police just finished security meeting with all Divisional Police Officers throughout the state, and he charged them to brace up and tighten up security vigilance in their respective areas. “We are on top of security and trouble makers have no place here I can tell you. Kaduna state is intact and peaceful and no threat to security exists. “Our men would go back and continue working with other stakeholders to strengthen security in their areas. We don’t want any record of breach and we are ready. People should go about their normal activities”. All is well — KDSG The state Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Alhaji Saidu Adamu said:, “There is no tension whatsoever in Kaduna state, everything is going fine and you can see. “It is just the handiwork of detractors who wish the state bad but there is nothing like that in the Kaduna. “The government of Kaduna state is actually happy that this is happening to us in Kaduna state, because we all know that the Governor never wanted this appointment, all he has been saying is that he wants God to grant him the ability to go back for a second term as the Governor of the state to make sure that he completes most of the projects he has started, so each time you even speak to him about being the Vice President he never liked it. “He wanted to stay in Kaduna and complete the good job he started, but you see when God is doing his own thing he does not consult anybody. “God had already prepared him for the Vice Presidency, so even when our governor was working tirelessly to see that Senator Makarfi becomes the Vice President, little did he know that in God’s mind he has already started with him. “And that was why President Goodluck Jonathan decided to pick him as the constitution has provided. “Whoever is saying that Sambo scuttled Makarfi’s bid to be Vice President actually does not believe in God. Namadi has been lobbying for Makarfi. It is the President that has the sole right to nominate anybody he feels that he is comfortable to work with him, so he feels comfortable to work with Namadi as Vice President”. On the expected takeover of leadership in the state by the Deputy Governor, Mr.Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, Adamu further said that, “the constitution is clear about this; the deputy governor will automatically become the governor, if the Governor is sworn in as the Vice President. “Development is coming to our state; creating more environments for our people. That is the thinking of God and nobody can change that. “It a normal issue without contest and if anybody thinks otherwise then he is ignorant of the constitution. “Unless if the constitution is changed today, it is very clear and we have no other reason than to comply with the constitution. As long as the constitution is there we have no choice than to act according to it. Why Jonathan settled for him Meanwhile, Sunday Vanguard gathered that President Jonathan settled for Governor Sambo on the strength of the existing relationship between them that began when they both met and served in the late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s committee on power. The relationship, according to a source familiar with them, is “one based on trust, confidence and mutual respect. Sunday Vanguard can also reveal that President Jonathan decided to consult as widely as possible so that whoever he settled for would be seen as the “product of wide consultations in the country”. However, it was also gathered that at no time did he ask for a group nominee as was done by the Senate, House of Representatives and the Governors’ Forum. A Presidency source told Sunday Vanguard “President Jonathan never requested any nominee from the Senate or the House of Representatives or the Governors’ Forum”. Nevertheless, he kept it open and consulted as widely as possible. On the involvement of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the nomination process, the source said; “in truth, President Jonathan deferred to the former President but there was never a time that guarantees were made or given on the matter. “However, what many could not understand was that Jonathan and Sambo had struck a relationship which was nurtured into something wonderful. “While both men were on the committee on power which the late President Umaru Yar’Adua instituted, they worked together and the trust was built. “During the work of the committee on power, Governor Sambo and then Vice President Jonathan forged a relationship that was based on trust and understanding. “The trust was built so much so that there were times when the Vice President would not approve anything except Governor Sambo had vetted the bills as appropriate. “I think Jonathan also saw in Sambo a man who did not put pecuniary and primordial interests ahead of national interests and national developmental goals and objectives.”, a source who has followed both men closely told Sunday Vanguard last Friday. Sunday Vanguard also gathered that when Jonathan visited Kaduna State during the KADA Games, the national sports festival hosted by the state, Jonathan was so impressed with the calisthenics that he requested from Sambo that “the people involved in the demonstrations should be brought to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, for the Under-16 World Cup. For the Vice President to have made such a request relates to the level of confidence he has in the man. And it is mutual. “Even while some hawks were pushing Jonathan to do certain things while Yar’Adua was not around, good counsel from some quarters prevailed and you can guess from where”, adding, “Governor Sambo had made up his mind that if God Almighty was going to do something, why should human beings be the one rushing for it as if they could make it possible and, therefore, did not bother himself or show keen interest”

Bauchi State administration headed by the very handsome Mallam Isa Yuguda appears to be one of the most corrupt states in Nigeria as the people of the state who are always complaining of his many financial misappropriations are not finding things easy with him.

While he’s yet to clear himself from his excesses and nontransparent contract he awarded to China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited valued at N7.8b of which knowledgeable sources point to China Zonghao as the governor’s conduit pipe for the looting of Bauchi State, the amiable governor is said to have been a drug addict. “Yes, he can’t do without taking it every night.

Why he’s so engrossed to smoking of Indian hemp these days cannot be explained, the reason is because, immediately he takes it, he begins to cry a baby for a while before he gains his strength back. A lot of us, who are witnesses of this strange ordeal, have come to conclusion that there is more to that act than meet the eyes.

” One of his aides informed us. Governor Isa Yuguda is the son-in law to the late former president of Nigeria, Musa Yardua and while he is said to have been going away with the looting of his state’s treasury is based on this fact.

Though, there is a strong warning from the presidency that the youthfully looking governor is ‘untouchable’ and both EFCC and ICPC seem to adhere to this instruction, close sources informed. .

This friendly and very playful governor who is said to have turned the good fortune of his state to misfortune, information at our disposal reveals, is not only hooked on drugs but is deeply involved in all kinds of immoral acts.

Obama used Facebook and Online media to promote His presidential campaign and it worked .Goodluck Jonathan has decided to go the same winning way and win the youths .

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, tacitly revealed his intention to contest the 2011 presidential election, saying he would set up a Facebook account for the poll.
The proposed account, he said, is “part of my contribution to the (election) debate” and that it would focus primarily on the exchange of ideas..

Facebook is a popular social network interactive site with millions of subscribers globally.

Jonathan, who spoke at the 26th Convocation of the University of Port Harcourt, on the second day of his visit to Rivers State, also harped on the urgent need for national transformation and harnessing of the unchallengeable power and good in the Nigerian youth. He urged Nigerians to register as soon as the voter registration exercise commences and be ready vote.

“Once we can successfully prevent a few people from determining the outcome of elections, all elected leaders immediately come into the service of the general good. There will neither be accountability nor development when political leaders owe their privilege of power to the narrow interests of the few. I believe every major challenge that we face as a country can be confronted by the power of the vote,” he said..

Stressing that “our political process is a work in progress,” Jonathan appealed to Nigerians, particularly the youths, to come back into the process, adding that the stakes were too high “for us to abandon our right to re-order the present and determine the future.”

The President, whose address dwelt mainly on the nation’s youths, paid glowing tribute to the undying spirit of the Nigerian as represented in the youths.

“There is an unchallengeable power of good in the Nigerian youth and we must recognize and harness it with a view to deploying its potential. With 70 per cent of our population below the age of 35, we are a strong and sturdy community, determined to defend our collective interest. Challenging times need to be challenged by the overwhelming strength of vision.

“It is in this regard that as I settle down to the duties of office, I will be depending on the ideas, energy and co-operation of all Nigerians to bring our dream to reality. There can never be a better time for national transformation than now,” Jonathan said. He commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof Don Baridam, whose tenure expires in July, for his uncommon achievements.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor said the Federal Government has approved the establishment of the Centre for Energy Studies in the university, adding that when functional, the centre would facilitate studies in nuclear energy and related disciplines..

Baridam, who recalled the assassination of two staff of the institution, including its Chief Security Officer, Mr Amadi Wali, observed that such violent killings and threats have become commonplace in the nation’s university system and urged the government to tackle insecurity in universities and the larger society.

Highpoint of the convocation was the award of certificates, first degrees and post-graduate degrees to 5,922 graduates and the award of honorary doctorate degrees to some eminent Nigerians, which included a former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Mohammed Uwais; Managing Director of the World Bank, Dr. Ngozi

Okonjo-Iweala, who was represented by her father; a former Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Sylvanus Cookey, Prof Aniezionwu Okoro, and Mr Donald Duke, former Cross River State Governor.

Also honoured was the Oba Akran of Badagry, Dr De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, who is the new Chancellor of the univeristy.

He was nominated for best director and best picture at the Eerie Horror Festival 2004, and he won the Honorable Mention Award at the Flint International Film Festival 2005. Thomas has been working as a screenwriter in London since 2005, writing and developing screenplays for producers.

VP: Sambo dragged before EFCC over N153.6bn John Alechenu and segun olatunji The governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, who has been nominated to fill the vacant post of Vice President, has been dragged before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over allegations of financial impropriety. A Kaduna-based lawyer, Sadau Garba, petitioned the anti-graft body asking that the governor be investigated for allegedly misappropriating N153.6bn with the support of the state legislature. A copy of the petition which was obtained by our correspondent on Saturday alleged among other things that the N1.2bn spent by the state government in hosting the U-17 World Cup championship was yet to be accounted for. Nigeria hosted the championship in 2009 and Kaduna State was one of the states where the tournament was held. The governor whose name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration and confirmation as the Vice-President was nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday night after he had a meeting with Peoples Democratic Party governors. But Sambo who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Umar Sani, has dismissed the petition just as he queried the credibility of the petitioner. He added that the petitioner needed to be examined to determine whether his claims had any substance. But in the petition, Garba averred that the state obtained a $17.32m loan guaranteed by the Minister of Finance from the Islamic Development Bank, but that the loan was not captured in the 2009 budget as required by law. He also accused security operatives of acting out the script of the state government by harassing him on account of the petition. Meanwhile, tension has gripped the state capital following alleged opposition by some groups and persons to the nomination of Sambo. Following this, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered that riot policemen and Armoured Personnel Carriers have been deployed to patrol the flash points in the state. Our correspondent gathered that unfavourable security reports about the situation led to the deployment of security men on Friday, shortly before the Muslim Jumat prayers. The security beef up, it was learnt, was informed by the circulation of some text messages from unknown sources asking the Muslims not to accept the nomination of Sambo as well as the expected change in leadership that will follow in the state. The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Tambari Yabo Mohammed, had earlier on Saturday held a meeting with Divisional Police Officers in the state during which, he instructed them to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order in their areas.

Muslim immigrant wins even after after gown stumble

LAS VEGAS -
A 24-year-old Arab American from Michigan beat out 50 other women to take
the 2010 Miss USA title Sunday night, despite stumbling in her evening
gown.

Rima Fakih of Dearborn, Mich., won the pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip after strutting confidently in an orange
and gold bikini, wearing a strapless white gown that resembled a wedding
dress and saying health insurance should cover birth control pills.

When asked how she felt about winning the crown, she said, "Ask me after I've had a pizza."

Fakih, a Lebanese immigrant, told pageant organizers her family celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths. She
moved to the United States as a baby and was raised in New York, where
she attended a Catholic school. Her family moved to Michigan in 2003.

Pageant officials said historical pageant records were not detailed enough to show whether Fakih was the first Arab American, Muslim or immigrant to win the Miss
USA title. The pageant started in 1952 as a local bathing suit
competition in Long Beach, Calif.

Fakih told reporters she sold her car after graduating college in Michigan to help pay for her run in the Miss Michigan USA pageant.

She said she believed she had the title on Sunday after glancing at pageant owner Donald Trump as she awaited the results with the first runner-up,
Miss Oklahoma USA Morgan Elizabeth Woolard.

"That's the same look that he gives them when he says, 'You're hired,'" on Trump's reality show "The Apprentice," she
said.

"She's a great girl," said Trump, who owns the pageant with NBC in a joint venture.

In a moment that was replayed during the broadcast, Fakih nearly fell while finishing her walk in her gown because of the length of its train. But
she made it without a spill and went on to win.

"I did it here, I better not do it at Miss Universe," she said. "Modeling does help, after all."

Fakih replaces Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton and won a spot representing the United States this summer in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant. She also gets a one-year lease
in a New York apartment with living expenses, an undisclosed salary,
and various health, professional and beauty services.

During the interview portion, Fakih was asked whether she thought birth control should be paid for by health insurance, and she said she believed it should
because it's costly.

"I believe that birth control is just like every other medication even though it's a controlled substance," Fakih said.

Woolard handled the night's toughest question, about Arizona's new immigration law. Woolard said she supports the law, which requires police enforcing another law
to verify a person's immigration status if there's "reasonable
suspicion" that the person is in the country illegally.

She said she's against illegal immigration but is also against racial profiling.

"I'm a huge believer in states' rights. I think that's what's so wonderful about America," Woolard said. "So I think it's perfectly fine for Arizona to create that
law."

"The Office" actor Oscar Nunez was booed as he asked the question and asked the audience to wait until he finished the
question before they reacted. The panel of judges came up with the
questions themselves.

Miss Virginia USA Samantha Evelyn Casey was the second runner-up, Miss Colorado USA Jessica Hartman was third runner-up, and Miss Maine USA
Katherine Ashley Whittier was the fourth runner-up.

The young women already glammed up for lingerie shots that became an online sensation and received online ratings from the public before the women face a panel of
seven celebrity judges in the live pageant.

The racy photo shoot posted on YouTube generated some debate about whether it went too far while drawing
thousands of viewers.

Most of the field of contestants from all 50 states and the District of Columbia were eliminated just after the pageant began and the entire
group danced onstage to "TiK ToK" by Ke$ha.

A panel of eight judges, including NBA star Carmelo Anthony, Treasure Island casino-hotel owner Phil Ruffin and Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, were judging the girls throughout the night.
It was hosted by celebrity chef Curtis Stone and TODAY's Natalie
Morales.

After 15 contestants strutted in swimsuits, five were eliminated. Another five were eliminated after the evening gown competition.

Miss Nebraska USA Belinda Renee Wright won the Miss Congeniality award, roughly one week after her father was killed in a farm accident. Miss Alabama USA Audrey Moore
won Miss Photogenic after an online fan vote.

The pageant aired live to East Coast viewers on NBC..

lesbians in Secondary Schools ?

Wild. Repulsive. Barbaric. Absolutely abominable. These are some adjectives that many would readily adopt to describe the act of lesbianism anyday. But are Nigerian girls and ladies found in this

act? Shhh! Oh no! Wait! don’t jump into any conclusion yet, just take your time now, as you embark on this ride with YEMISI ADENIRAN in her recent trips to some homes, Nigerian universities and other higher institutions alike and see how much of our female fellow Nigerians are attracted to themselves these days, in spite of the many men around.thumb2.aspx?img=Y29udGVudC9jb250ZW50L0xlc2JpYW5pc20uanBn&s=NS8xNC8yMDEw&w=600

To most students who are knowing them for the first time, Joy and Joke come across, as not just mere friends, but like some blood-related associates. Wherever you find one, the other, if not yet visible, is simply lurking around. Apart from studying the same course, Languages and Linguistics, at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, they live in the same hostel, cook together, eat from the same plate. Just think of any activity, they basically go about it like a siamese twin.

At first, no one really cared about their intimacy until a recent incident that almost sent them packing from their hostel. “Before now, we never read any meaning into their actions until Deola, a curious girl on our block drew our attention to it,” recalled Tanny, an undergraduate of this same university who offered to help this reporter in her curious assignment. According to her, Deola was a sister of one of their room mates and had come to spend some few days with her sister as she was preparing for the last Joint Admission Matriculation Examination (JAME). Within the first three days of her stay, she had become greatly worried about the intimacy of Joy and Joke that she could not but ask questions. However, as much as the many responses she was offered by her sister and her co-room mates, Deola’s curiousity remained unabated. Soon, at her leisure time, she began trailing her suspects. “Why would they always bath together and be hostile to anyone who come around at that particular time,” asked a worried Deola.

From her findings, Deola discovered that the duo preferred to take their bath in the evenings together and always proved hostile to anyone who intruded into their closet at that particular time. This was how she discovered this: “Around 9 p.m. on a Friday, I noticed that these two girls were ready to have their bath, but 30 minutes after they had left their room, they were still roaming about the area for God-knows what. I was very disturbed within me and made up my mind to watch them very closely. I did not tell anyone but informed my elder sister about my plan as I noticed their readiness to go to the bathroom. My fear was soon confirmed when I got to the two entrances of the bathroom and met it closed. Most times, the doors were always left ajar for anyone to enter since we are all girls. I quickly went back to inform my sisters who followed me with one other room mate of hers. Although, they wouldn’t see any reason for this, but I guess, they got curious too. We tactically broke into the bathroom and was shocked when we saw them leaning against each other on the wall of the bathroom having their disgusting fun. It was Joke who first saw us as she was under, she screamed and the other girl, haven been alerted, immediately disengaged from her. They both tried to attack us but when we begun to shout and threaten to report them to the head, Potter and the school authorities, they soft pedaled and begged that we should not expose their shameless act.”

This was strange and at the same time amazing. For about two semesters now, these girls have been around and no one cared to seek for why they are that intimate until a younger girl came around to give a clue to this. Within the space of a month, the news had gone round so much that the girls, without any prompting from the school authority, resulted to living off the campus. In spite of this however, the damage had been done, they had become labeled as lesbians and clues have been laid bare for ways of getting others in such practice.

If you think lesbianism is only prominent amidst the adults or those in higher institutions, then, you might just be making a big mistake. A lot of these lesbians around now have been exposed to it right from their childhood and if you will be careful enough to monitor what goes on around you, you will soon submit to the adage that says “Charity begins at home.”

The word lesbian according to Mrs, Bola Babs, a Consultant psychologist with the Orphan and Vulnerable Children, Abuja, can refer to desire, an act of sexual intimacy involving two women. It is a term most widely used in the English language to describe sexual and romantic desire between females. “The word may be used as a noun, to refer to women who identify themselves or who are characterised by others as having the primary attribute of female homosexuality, or as an adjective, to describe characteristics of an object or activity related to female same-sex desire,”she said.

Tracing its documementation to the late 19th century when sexologists published their observations on same-sex desire and behaviour, she opined that lesbians in Western culture, are designated as a distinct entity. “As a result, women who became aware of their new medical status formed underground subcultures in Europe and North America. Further broadening of the term occurred in the 1970s with the influence of second wave feminism. Historians since, have re-examined relationships between women in history, and have questioned what qualifies a woman or a relationship as lesbian. The result of such discussion has introduced three components to identifying lesbians: sexual behaviour, sexual desire, or sexual identity,”she added.

Speaking on some of the reasons why we have many ladies indulge in the act especially these days, Babs said some are into it either for adventure, which is a social reason; some, as a result of a disorder, anti-social or mental disorder, while generally, she attributed the desire to an act based on lack of the fear of God.

“In spite of the level of our civilisation, lesbianism, no matter what is abnormal and a shameful thing. That is why most of them in the habit cannot come out in the open to declare their habit. It is categorised under Sodomy and should be discouraged by all,” she said.

Supporting the opinion of the early sexologists, Babs based her characterisation of lesbians on their beliefs that women who challenged their strictly prescribed gender roles were mentally ill. She however blamed this on carelessness on the part of many parents.

“Most of these lesbians from my experience so far, were lured into this act when they were young and pushed out to the boarding school system. I am not saying it is bad or wrong to send children to boarding schools, all I’m saying is that it should not be made so early. Some children in the craziness or the lust for this same exposure, on the part of their parents got “thrown out” of the country to live without their parents and ended up with a lot of bad habits that have become part of them.”

Apart from these, most parents, she noted, are very far from their children, all in the name of some career they are pursuing. She therefore advised that parents should become more intimate to their wards right from the cradle till they have become mature. They should be role models to them, share love and their thoughts with them as much as possible. And should they discover any of their children in such an act, they should seek the help of a counsellor or have them rehabilitated until the urge gets quenched. Lesbianism has sometimes been in vogue throughout history, which affects how lesbians are viewed by others as well as how they view themselves. Some women who engage in homosexual behaviour may reject the lesbian identity entirely, refusing to identify themselves as lesbian or bisexual.

Women who adopt the lesbian identity, however, share experiences that form an outlook similar to ethnic identity: as homosexuals, they are unified by the discrimination and potential rejection they face from their families, friends, and others. As women, they face concerns separate from men. Lesbians may again encounter distinct health concerns. Political conditions and social attitudes also continue to affect the formation of lesbian relationships and families. Additional reports from Moyo Odebiyi

The Return of Innocent Idibia

It’s taken having five kids from three women for 2face Idibia to show us he’s not exactly as innocent as his name or looks might suggest. But it’s also taken surviving one of the most turbulent careers of this time, for Mr Idibia to show us he’s not just a gifted act who’s found favour with the gods of music; but also a cat with more than nine lives.Idibia who clocks 35 this September, has survived repeated armed robbery attacks (at least five major ones at the last count, including one, in 2007, when he was shot in his thigh), sustained media bashing following the celebrated multiple pregnancies by his baby-mamas Pero, Annie and Sunmbo, several damaging reports by a segment of the media, questioning the authenticity of his collabos with R.Kelly, and Mary J. Blige, dismal performance of his last album The Unstoppable, and a fall in rating, causing the likes of Psquare and D’Banj to briefly overtake him.But Idibia is not a quitter. While colleagues with lesser woes have fallen by the road side and given up completely, the singer is not just trudging on; he is fully back on his feet, dusting his pants, and grabbing his mic as he gallops ahead, ears blocked to what naysayers might be broadcasting. The former Kennis music act seems to be saying: ‘yes I slept with all them women; yes I didn’t use condoms and I seem to have let you all down. Yes you’re not feeling my last album and you’re not even happy I’m switching my music style without getting your permission… but, can we please move on? After all, I’m taking care of the kids; they’re in good schools… I’m not denying them or their mothers and none of my baby mamas is underage… Can you guys please give me another chance and let me feed you with some real good music?’Then he screamed, ‘In short Okoli, pass me the Poli’.And he entered the studio; and he brought forth music; real good music. He brought forth ‘Implication’ and ‘Only me’ and few other cuts you’ll soon begin to discover. He brought back the brilliance and beauty in his music. He brought 2face Idibia back to life… All of a sudden, Mr Idibia is making hits again; topping the charts again and getting unreserved love from everyone from Kaura na Moda to Imale’n F’Alafia and Victoria Garden City. Thanks to his team at Now Muzik and Hypertek, and to Idibia himself, one of our favourite pop stars is now rebuilding one of the most successful and one of the most troubled careers of the past two decades. As he unveils his first international album later this month, it’ll be a good time to see how far he has gone with the reconstruction; and if, truly, fans are now ready to face him and his music alone, without allowing all the private drama prevent them from giving the man a hug. It’ll be a good time to know whether the success his last single ‘Implication’ has enjoyed is just a fluke; or whether Idibia has fully found favour with fans again. It’s over 12 years since 2face debuted with the Plantashun Boiz; over six years since his own Solo debut. But on May 21, when he releases ‘The Unstoppable (int’l edition), it’ll look like ‘the bad sharp guy’ is debuting again…Idibia’s new 13-tracker ‘The Unstoppable (Int’l Edition) is available from May 21

Have you ever made a commitment and then wished you hadn't? I'm sure it happens to everyone at some point. Maybe you made a commitment to go somewhere with a friend or to someone's house for dinner, and at the last minute, you're too tired or something else comes up and you want to switch your plans.

Well the other day, that's exactly what happened to me. I had committed to go somewhere and when it came time to get ready, I was so exhausted. It had been a long day and I was thinking to myself, "Boy, I wish I hadn't committed to this! I wish there was some way I could get out of doing this." As I thought for a minute, it made me realize that sometimes we think God is like us—that He makes a commitment, but we aren't sure He's going to show up. We aren't sure He really wants to do it.

Well, let me reassure you today, God will never call and cancel! He will never "get out of the mood" and "something else" will never come up with God! He always shows up. He never withholds His provision. Just because we don't want to show up sometimes doesn't mean that God doesn't. He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother. He is the faithful One. He is always true to His promises.

Today, meditate on that fact. Let it sink down in your heart. The God of the universe is able and willing to meet your needs. It pleases Him to give you the kingdom. He is faithful from everlasting to everlasting, and His Word is forever settled. Have confidence today when you reach out to Him because you can trust that He will always show up anytime you call upon His name.

He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him (Psalm 91:15, NIV).

Brain Damaging Habits

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2 . Overeating

It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking

It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption

Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6 . Sleep Deprivation

Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells..

7. Head covered while sleeping

Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness

Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts

Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely

Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

The main causes of liver damage are:

cid:image002.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.

2. Not urinating in the morning.

3 . Too much eating.

4. Skipping breakfast.

5. Consuming too much medication.

6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.

7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil.

As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is20very fit.

8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.

Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to 'schedule.'

The top five cancer-causing foods are:

1.. Hot Dogs

cid:image003.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0

Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.

2. Processed meats and Bacon

cid:image004.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0 cid:image005.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0

Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts

cid:image006.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0

Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4. French fries

cid:image007.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0

Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies

cid:image008.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0 cid:image009.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0 cid:image010.jpg@01CAE534.A7C7A6E0

All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

PASS THIS TO ALL WHOM YOU LOVE & CARE FOR.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his company are suddenly facing a big new round of scrutiny and criticism about their cavalier attitude toward user privacy.

An early instant messenger exchange Mark had with a college friend won't help put these concerns to rest.

According to SAI sources, the following exchange is between a 19-year-old Mark Zuckerberg and a friend shortly after Mark launched The Facebook in his dorm room:.

Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard

Zuck: Just ask.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

[Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one?

Zuck: People just submitted it.

Zuck: I don't know why.

Zuck: They "trust me"

Zuck: Dumb fucks.

Brutal.

Could Mark have been completely joking? Sure. But the exchange does reveal that Facebook's aggressive attitude toward privacy may have begun early on.

Since Facebook launched, the company has faced one privacy flap after another, usually following changes to the privacy policy or new product releases. To its credit, the company has often modified its products based on such feedback. As the pioneer in a huge new market, Facebook will take heat for everything it does. It has also now grown into a $22 billion company run by adults who know that their future depends on Facebook users trusting the site's privacy policy.

But the company's attitude toward privacy, as reflected in Mark's early emails and IMs, features like Beacon and Instant Personalization, and the frequent changes to the privacy policy, has been consistently aggressive: Do something first, then see how people react.

And this does appear to reflect Mark's own views of privacy, which seem to be that people shouldn't care about it as much as they do -- an attitude that very much reflects the attitude of his generation.

After all, here's what early Facebook engineering boss, Harvard alum, and Zuckerberg confidant Charlie Cheever said in David Kirkpatrick's brilliantly-reported upcoming book The Facebook Effect.

"I feel Mark doesn't believe in privacy that much, or at least believes in privacy as a stepping stone. Maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong."

Again in Kirkpatrick's book, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg puts it this way:

"Mark really does believe very much in transparency and the vision of an open society and open world, and so he wants to push people that way. I think he also understands that the way to get there is to give people granular control and comfort. He hopes you'll get more open, and he's kind of happy to help you get there. So for him, it's more of a means to an end. For me, I'm not as sure."

Facebook declined to comment about Mark's attitude toward privacy.

Details are now confirmed from the United Arab Emirate revealing that the former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe
Ibori has been apprehended.

Mr. Ibori was recently declared wanted by the Economic and financial Crimes Commission over alleged diversion of N528m shares belonging to Delta State in Oceanic
Bank.

Mr. Ibori who has a lengthy rap sheet fled the country to avoid arrest, but his luck ran out, when Interpol acting on tip off, tracked him down to his hide out
in Dubai.

James Ibori’s Rap Sheet

According to the then British court records, Mr. Ibori, age 29 and standing at 5ft 11 at the time, was born on August 4, 1962, and lived at 9 Nower Hill Pinner Middlesex, England. He worked as a
cashier at Wickes Building Supplies, Victoria Road, Ruislip, Middlesex,
and earned 9,500 pounds per annum.

On Tuesday, August 28, 1990, three days after she had been in police trouble, Theresa Nakanda Ibori's girlfriend went into the Wickes
Building Supplies Store and, putting her Uxbridge Police Station
incident quickly behind her and stole goods with the connivance of her
boyfriend, Mr. Ibori, at about 8.30pm.

Mr. Ibori "Assisted his girlfriend (Theresa) to pass through his check-out without paying for goods whilst employed as
cashier," was the way British court records described the former
governor's act.

Mr. Ibori and his girlfriend (now wife) were then charged before the Crown court at Isleworth. Theresa Nakanda and James Ibori, on August 28, 1990, were charged for "stealing a quantity
of goods..."

On January 25 1991, Judge Thomas convicted both Mr. Ibori and his wife and fined them "300 pounds in default and 14 days imprisonment”. They were also made to pay
"costs of the prosecution in the sum of 450 pounds."

Mr. Ibori, who was represented by the law firm of Desmond Wright and Co., paid a total of 750 pounds for his
crime.

Graduating to credit card fraud

A year after his conviction before the Crown court at Isleworth, Mr. Ibori, who is an elder of the ruling Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) was back in court again, this time at the
Clerkenwell magistrates court, in London.

 Police officer McDonald
stated in his witness statement that:

"I have made further enquiries into the criminal convictions for Mr. James Ibori and can confirm that on the 7th
of February 1992 at Clerkenwell magistrate's court, London, Mr. Ibori
was convicted of one count of handling stolen goods contrary to Section

Mr. Ibori was convicted of one count of handling stolen goods contrary to Section 22 of the Theft Act, 1968."

The offense took place on Thursday, September 12, 1991. Putting on a blue suit and a pair of brown shoes at about 3:50pm, Mr. Ibori was challenged by British police officer Michelsen who found an American Express Gold card on him. When he was challenged, "he claimed to be Sean Burns, the card owner", the UK court records show. By the time the card was retrieved from Mr. Ibori, the "card was involved in 1000 pounds of misuse." Mr. Ibori was arrested but granted bail. The former Delta State governor was charged before Clerkenwell Magistrate Court in England on two offences, one of which stated that "on or before 12th September 1991 within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, you stole one American Express Gold Card of nominal value belonging to American Express, contrary to: S1 Theft Act 1968."
The court could not prove that he stole the card; however, Mr. Ibori was convicted of handling stolen goods. "You did handle one American Express Gold card in that knowing or believing it to be stolen goods; you did dishonestly arrange to receive the said goods. Contrary to S22 (1) Theft Act 1968," the court ruled.
