The police also confirmed that attacks were also reported in Fagawang where two persons were killed, and Nyarwai, both in the Barkin Ladi local government area, where three persons were killed.12166295654?profile=original

According to a police statement issued yesterday, 11 houses were burnt during the attack in Nyarwai, and three in Fagawang villages, while a church was burnt down in Ding village. A police source who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed that the attackers used weapons including guns, machetes, daggers, bows and arrows to attack their victims who were reportedly taken unawares.

Cold blood murder

According to the police source, the dead, who were slaughtered and left lying in their own blood, had several knife cuts on their bodies. The corpses still lay out in the open in the villages Tuesday morning as government officials were awaited. An official statement by Obinna Simon for the state police commissioner, Abdurrahman Akano, said no arrests had been made, but urged “all those concerned to refuse burial until we perform the autopsy.”

He said that the autopsies would help authorities ascertain the source and types of the weapons used. This, he said, would aid investigations and help ascertain whether the attackers were real military officers.

A city shuts down

Meanwhile, business activities were non-existent in the city as banks and other businesses remained closed throughout Tuesday. With freezing temperatures around 16°C, the streets have remained empty, with only a few vehicles venturing along specific routes. The city’s business nerve centre, popularly known as Terminus, has become a ghost of itself. Ahmadu Bello Way, Rwang Pam, Church, and Langtang Streets, and Old Bukuru Road, routes that experience heavy traffic daily, are deserted.

Powerless Special Task Force?

The Ndigbo, the umbrella body of the Igbo community in Jos, said that it has lost confidence in the Special Task Force headed by Hassan Umaru, a brigadier-general.

A statement by the group’s president-general, Richard Wayas, and its secretary, Serbinus Anyanwu, said that the Ndigbo condemned the cycle of crises, killings, and the Christmas Eve bombings and called on the federal and state governments to initiate urgent measures to end the violence.

“At the last count, we have well over 40 corpses of our people deposited both at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jankwano, and Jos University Teaching Hospital mortuaries, with several hospitalised,” the statement read.

“It is also regrettable that a luxury bus (EKWOS) carrying mostly Igbo passengers was attacked and burnt down by the same Hausa-Fulani youth along Bauchi Road, Jos.”

Simon Mwadkon, chairman of Riyom local government, described the incident as “very unfortunate,” saying that injured persons had been taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). He said that the attackers invaded the villages between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Tuesday, setting houses ablaze and killing the fleeing owners of the houses. Among the victims, he said, were children and nursing mothers.

The chairman alleged that security personnel were stationed “just 200 metres to where the attacks were carried out but they did nothing to stop it. In fact, a traditional ruler and the councillor, representing the area, Mr. Victor Davou, rushed to the STF soldiers just by but they bluntly refused to go to the scene after claiming that they were not given such an order,” Mr. Mwadkon said.

Mr. Mwadkon, however, promised that the council would do everything possible to assist victims of the raid, and called on the state and federal government to rise to the challenge and “do something drastic about the incessant crises on the Plateau.”

Averting another crisis

The Bauchi State Police Command said it has taken steps to prevent a spillover of the Jos crisis into the state. The command’s public relations officer, Mohammed Barau, an assistant superintendent of police, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi yesterday that security was being beefed up in all parts of the state, especially in towns close to the state’s border with Plateau.

“The police have taken proactive measures to prevent a spillover of the Jos crisis into the state. We are ready to take action to forestall any breach of law and order,” he said.

He added that there was now a better understanding between muslims and christians in the state.

The nation’s inspector-general of police, Hafiz Ringim, urged residents of Jos to resolve their issues without resorting to violence. Mr. Ringim made the plea in a statement issued in Abuja by the force’s public relations officer, Olusola Amore.

“The crisis in Jos should not be seen as a police/security problem but a community/political problem which all peace-loving people should strive to resolve without resorting to rancour,” he said.

“Nigerians should learn to live together in peace in spite of differences in tribe, language and religion,” he added.

The inspector general assured the people of the state and its environs of 24-hour patrols to forestall the breakdown of law and order in Jos. He said the police and other security agencies have been doing their best to contain the crisis and that 15,000 police officers and other security personnel had been deployed to Jos to restore peace since the crisis began.

Former National Security Adviser to the President, Aliyu Gusau has withdrawn from the presidential election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a bid to support the consensus candidate presented by the north. Mr. Gusau in a letter addressed to the party’s national chairman and members of the National Working Committee on Sunday stated that he is withdrawing his candidacy for the 2011 election “in line with his commitment to the consensus arrangement” which he acknowledged to be ‘‘fully part of’’. The retired general was amongst the candidates from the north that are vying for the PDP’s nomination ahead of the general polls in April. In September, he signed an agreement with 3 other PDP ..aspirants,Abubakar Atiku, Ibrahim Babangida and Bukola Saraki to present a single presidential candidate from the region, ahead of a screening by the Adamu Ciroma led committee that selected the consensus candidate.

Mr Gusau further affirms his decision on his withdrawal by claiming his support for the controversial issue of zoning that has since been rocking the party since the death of former President Umaru Yar’Adua . According to the letter, Mr Gusau stated that his decision is also based on “his conviction and compliance with the PDP amended constitution 2009 article 7(2)(c) which dictates that “the party shall adhere to the policy of rotation and zoning of the party and public elective offices......” Wishing the party success at the forthcoming elections, Mr Gusau pledged his utmost support for the consensus candidate-Atiku Abubakar.

Former military president, Ibrahim Babaginda had in December 2010 also written the party’s leadership to withdraw from the race, stating his support for the consensus candidate as well. However the sole female aspirant for the nomination who is also from the North has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting the nomination of Mr Abubakar as the PDP’s presidential aspirant for the April 2011 general election.

Mrs Jubril claimed that Mr Abubakar is not the consensus candidate of the North and that she, being an aspirant, was not consulted nor called to any meeting where the alleged adoption of Abubakar was decided upon. Mr. Gusau resigned his appointment as the special adviser to the president in September shortly after his appointment.

Rihanna has set a new record as the first female solo artist in UK chart history to achieve number one singles in five consecutive years.
The Official Charts Company announced her record after What's My Name? rose from number two to the top spot.
The last solo artist to achieve the feat was Elvis Presley, who had number ones in each year from 1957 to 1963.
Rihanna's album Loud also holds on to its number one slot, giving her the second UK chart double of her career.

Loud has now sold nearly 900,000 copies since its release in November last year.

As well as her number one, Rihanna, who is 22 and from Barbados, also appears on two other songs in the top 10 - Only Girl (In The World) and Who's That Chick.

Only Girl (In The World) was a number one last year and followed other number ones for Run This Town (2009), Take A Bow (2008) and Umbrella (2007).

Other albums which have re-entered the top 10 are Plan B's The Defamation of Strickland Banks, Rumer's Seasons Of My Soul and Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer which climbs to its highest chart position yet at number four.

Pastors chastise Christ Embassy for Gate Fee

Author's comment.

I am sure they (pastors)  wish they had thought of it first .

Christ Embassy Claim they Were trying to Raise funds not Crowd Control .

However we look at it .

What is IS . What will Be,WILL BE.Rumour even indicates that Pastor Chris was not aware of this development as many other issues that have plagued the reputation of the church . What is 25million to Christ Embassy compared to their efforts to portray the Church as custodians of the poor and Role models to the Pentecostal Congregation in Nigeria . No one Likes Bad Publicity. We can Condemn,Applaud & Judge All We Like but the Motives of the Heart are in God's Hand Alone.

Prominent pastors in the country and readers of P.M.NEWS have slammed Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his Christ Embassy Church for imposing a N1,000 toll fee on worshippers who attended New Year’s Eve service at the Christ Embassy Headquarters in Lagos, South-West Nigeria.

P.M.NEWS had reported in its 5 January 2011 edition how Christ Embassy pastors sold tickets valued at N1,000 each to worshippers who wanted to attend the crossover service in their church.
Indigent worshippers who could not afford the money were denied access and sent back by security men at the gate. The church explained that it collected gate fees from worshippers to control the huge crowd that always besieges Christ Embassy on New Year’s Eve service.

This development has outraged many Nigerians, including prominent pastors, at home and abroad.
The pastors who spoke with P.M.NEWS yesterday and readers, who reacted on , described the imposition of toll fee by Christ Embassy as a sacrilege.
The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Ola Makinde, described Oyakhilome’s action as anathema and abuse of Christianity.

“It is a sacrilege and commercialisation of religion. It is an abuse of Christianity,” he lamented.
Founder, Soul Winning Chapel, Rev. Moses Illoh, said that such an act “is sacrilegious,” adding that the gospel of Christ is supposed to be free and not to be paid for.
“There is no excuse for this. The church of God is for everybody, both for the poor and the rich. The church where they collect money before you can go in to worship is not a church.”
According to Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, such pastors who collect money from worshippers should be stoned to death or be crucified.

“Is this possible? Such church should be destroyed and such pastors should be stoned to death. Pay N1,000 to enter a church? Is the church in heaven? It is never done.
“If it is possible, let the government intervene. These pastors are for Satan and such pastors should be crucified. It is embarrassing,” he lamented.

lso reacting to the incident, General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide, Prophet Samuel Kayode Abiara, said collection of money as gate fee for church service is unbiblical.
“Collecting money as gate fee before a church service is unbiblical because there is nowhere in the Bible where it was recorded that Jesus collected money from the multitude who listened to His sermon and benefited from His miracles.

“Salvation is free. You receive it free and you give it free,” he said.
Abiara added that he cannot judge Pastor Oyakhilome because he doesn’t understand the circumstances under which money was collected.

“It’s not impossible that they must have used the event to raise money,” he said.
To Rev. Oladapo Daramola, Media and Public Relations Officer, Methodist Church Nigeria, it is not right to collect money from worshippers before allowing them inside the church.
“This is not right because despite the number of people that came to worship at the feet of Jesus Christ, there was no barrier for them to come closer. Anything that will bar people from receiving the good news should not be allowed. It is not Christ-like,” he stated.

Also, Rev. Akintoye Braimoh, Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Christian Religious Matters, frowned at Oyakhilome’s act, saying it was very wrong.
“A place of worship is a place for all, even for a Muslim. PFN has already rejected Oyakhilome and he is not recognised by the body; he is on his own,” she added.
Dr. Sam Ogedengbe, Special Assistant to the Governor on Christian Religious Matters also stated that it was not right for any pastor to act that way.

“Why should you collect money before one can be allowed to enter a church? Is the place really a church? It is wrong to do that,” he said.
Some readers who reacted on our website, condemned Oyakhilome’s act, saying that it unscriptural.
Mike said: “Church has become big business in Nigeria. Now, they have introduced gate fee to church, very soon, they will introduce gate fee to heaven before someone dies. May God have mercy on them.”
According to Kayode, “the church should have thought of a bigger venue for this service. The National Stadium for instance would have accommodated a lot of people. The church should know that a special service like this will attract a lot of people, sinners and the saved, the rich and the poor, the genuine and the fake, but give an opportunity for all to meet with Christ. It was a rash strategy to control the crowd.”

Gloria said: “This news should have been best tagged ‘Pastor Oyakhilome deprives the poor of the gospel’. He’s unbelievable. Jesus Christ welcomed the crowd even when the apostles wanted to stop them. He went as far as feeding them with five loaves of bread and two fishes. We should learn from the bible, this is not crowd control, but daylight robbery.”

According to Jedidiah, “when the church becomes over crowded and the senior pastors don’t have a seat for themselves on such occasions, it becomes a good problem and for this reason, the church should pray to God to provide a bigger church for them. Such services are not for the so-called ‘true members’ to be comfortable but for the unsaved to be shown love, thereby winning them over to the winning church.”

Olo said: “it still beats my imagination to hear that such a thing actually happened in Christ Embassy, and at the headquarters for that matter. What’s money turning man of God into?”
Temmy reacted this way: “slowpoke, idiots and silly people will always continue to follow a silly pastor. When Jesus referred to his people (including me) as sheep, He did not mean  sheep like most Nigerians who are following those money worshipping and 419 pastors of nowadays.”
Thousands of readers, who reacted in various websites and blogs, including social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, also expressed shock and disappointment..

ZURICH (Reuters) - Argentina's Lionel Messi won the World Player of the Year for the second time in a row on Monday and Jose Mourinho walked off with the coach's award, leaving Spain's World Cup winners disappointed.

Messi surprisingly held off Barcelona team mates Andres Iniesta and Xavi, second and third respectively, to win the newly-created FIFA Ballon D'Or, a fusion of the previously separate annual awards handed out by FIFA and France Football magazine.

Mourinho, now with Real Madrid, won the inaugural Coach of the Year award after leading Inter Milan to a Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup treble.

The honour went to the self-styled Special One, who described himself afterwards as "proudly Portuguese", at the expense of Spain's World Cup-winning coach Vicente del Bosque, second, and Barcelona's Pep Guardiola, third...

"The most important trophies for me are the collective ones, not the individual ones but this is a historic trophy for me and Portuguese football," Mourinho told reporters after edging Del Bosque with 35.92 percent of the votes against 33.08.

SPANISH EMPTY-HANDED

Iniesta and Xavi had been favourites after helping Spain win last year's World Cup while Messi had failed to score a goal or produce his best form at the tournament in South Afica.

"It was just good to be here with my team mates," said Messi, who looked as surprised as anyone by the result which was announced by Barcelona coach Guardiola.

Mourinho puts himself among Portuguese greatsimages?q=tbn:ANd9GcSp5jGQPi4KGmNv4x-Ne2-ScRepjMFUKtHQ_RURZVHST2nLQcwInw

ZURICH: Jose Mourinho put himself on the same pedestal as revered Portuguese compatriots Eusebio, Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo after becoming the first winner of the Coach of the Year award on Monday.

But Mourinho was not entirely satisfied with the evening, saying that the Inter Milan team he coached to a treble last season should have been represented among the three candidates for the Player of the Year award won by Lionel Messi.

"Obviously for me, the most important are the collective titles, not the individual ones... but it's an historic trophy, historic for me, historic for Portuguese football as well and obviously I feel great pride," he told reporters.

"I'm proudly Portuguese, the Portuguese don't have so many of these proud moments, and this is certainly good for Portuguese ego.

"After Eusebio, Figo, and Cristiano (Ronaldo), we are now four golden balls."

Mourinho's award was the result of a poll conducted jointly by FIFA and France Football magazine, who also joined forces to produce the first FIFA Ballon D'Or Player of the Year award.

Figo and Ronaldo each won both the old FIFA and France Football awards while Eusebio, who played long before the FIFA award existed, also won the latter.

Mourinho, now with Real Madrid, won a Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup treble with Inter last season.

That success only went on to enhance his reputation further as he was already one of the world's most sought after coaches having won the Serie A title with Inter in 2008/9, two Premier League and one FA Cup titles with Chelsea and Champions League, UEFA Cup and two league titles with Porto.

Barcelona trio Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi were contenders for the player's award but Mourinho said there should have been room for at least one member of his Inter team.

"Inter were a little hard done by in my opinion, European champions, world champions, champions of everything, to have not had anyone among the players sitting in these three chairs," he said.

"For me it was something of an injustice. It had special meaning that their trainer had won an historic trophy."

Mourinho was close to tears during the ceremony when Inter player Wesley Sneijder thanked him from the stage after being picked in the world XI.

"The most important is to hear words like the ones from Sneijder which affect you more than the trophies you can win," said Mourinho.

Thugs stripped a female commissioner in Zamfara State, (name withheld) naked during the just-concluded House of Assembly by-election in Anka, which took place at the weekend.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the commissioner, who is a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was seen by some thugs distributing wrappers and detergents to some women on the day of the election.

According to the source, “the situation didn’t go down well with these youths whose loyalty is with the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).”

When the thugs accosted her and asked her why she was campaigning for PDP while campaign had closed, she was said to be adamant.

Source confided in the Nigerian Tribune that this enraged the youth who pounced on her, tore her cloths and stripped her naked.

The pandemonium that followed this attracted by-passers who rushed to the scene of the incident and rescued the embattled commissioner from the hoodlums.

When contacted, the commissioner confirmed the incident but was quick to add that any politician worth his salt would not be bothered by such experience.

She maintained that she did not regret her action and would do the same if the opportunity came again.

It will be recalled that the by-election for the House of Assembly took place at Anka following the demise of a member of the House of Assembly, Saidu Bagega, in October, 2010....

A.  Smith.Uduaghan’s swearing in ceremony earmarked for 02:00pm could not take place until his arrival from Abuja at about 04:45pm at the Cenotaph in Asaba, the state capital.

The delay according to Government House sources said the flight conveying Uduaghan and his team of supporters to Abuja to pick his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was delayed in landing due to bad weather.

After much wait by eager Deltans and supporters of Uduaghan, he drove into the venue of the swearing in ceremony in a black, unmarked Lexus jeep amid cheer and tight security and bomb detecting team.

The oath office and allegiance was administered on the Deputy, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama at and Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan at 05:05pm and 05:10pm respectively by the Chief Judge.

okeyndibe.jpgThis is to inform Nigerians and the international community that following the appearance of Prof Okey Ndibe at the State Security Service (SSS) office in Lagos as directed today, his Nigerian and international passports have been released to him and
the agency has given an undertaking that no further action is to be taken against him. Professor Ndibe arrived at the SSS offices at about 9:55 A.M. Nigerian time with his lawyer, Mr ‘Sanjo Fagbemi. They were ushered into a waiting area and were there until 11:20 A.M. when they were taken to an office where two men were waiting. Prof Ndibe introduced himself and informed them he was there with his lawyer who also introduced himself. One of the men, who introduced himself as Mr Bifani then explained that the lawyer’s presence would not be necessary as they do not intend to interrogate Professor Ndibe nor detain him for long. He asked the lawyer to excuse them and the lawyer left to wait outside with some members of Respect Nigerians Coalition and other well-wishers who had come to the SSS offices in solidarity with Prof Ndibe. ..

Once the lawyer left, Mr Bifani began by apologising to Professor Ndibe for the distress they’ve caused him saying he has to accept it as “one of those things in life”. He explained that they were going to give him his passport and let him go. Prof Ndibe wondered how that comment can help in explaining what has happened. He said people outside would want to know why he was arrested in the first place, whether for a substantive offence or for mere suspicion, why his passports were taken and why he was asked to report to that office today. He explained that people will ask him and he requires answers to give them. Mr Bifani explained that he has committed no offence. He said he has been reading the reports as well and that this is all based on an “old matter” which he’s happy to say has been resolved. He said Professor Ndibe’s passports would be given back to him and that he can assure him that he would not be stopped at the airport anymore or picked up. He went on to say that this whole problem was based on the action of a previous government that have put Professor Ndibe’s name on a list of persons they should be questioning, but that the present government is not interested in pursuing this.

Professor Ndibe enquired about what this “old matter” was and how it was resolved that he is no longer to be questioned about this and how such a purported resolution is evidently contradicted by the fact of his arrest and the seizure of his passports. He said while he is no longer interested in pursuing those aspect concerning him personally, he is more interested in the revelation that there is a list of people somewhere, which included his own name and which the SSS is still apparently working with. He asked if this list included activists, writers, human rights campaigners and people who generally have a different view from the government, but who have been expressing their opinion peacefully and freely in the public space. He said he wants to know whether after his ordeal, others like him, whether based in Nigeria or coming from abroad, would not be given the same or worse treatment based on a list in the agency’s possession.

Mr Bifani said, to be honest, he wasn’t competent to speak about the list, which persons’ names are in it, who is not in it or who is likely to be picked up. But that all he can do now was to hand over Prof Ndibe’s passports to him. He brought out the passports and a form and asked Professor Ndibe to sign. The form basically was an acknowledgement that he has received his passports back. Prof Ndibe read and signed and the other fellow in the room who had been there all along saying nothing and who introduced himself as Mr Charles then signed as a witness. Prof Ndibe thanked them, took his passports and left to meet up with his lawyer and members of Respect Nigerians Coalition and well-wishers who had come to the office in solidarity with him. He gave a brief interview to Mr Ahaoma Kanu, a journalist and member of Respect Nigerians Coalition and went back home. By the time he was speaking to us, he was already home with friends and visitors who were visiting in solidarity.

Prof Ndibe said he was satisfied with the outcome on a personal level because despite the little hiccup, he still has time to get on with his programme in Nigeria and return to the US as originally scheduled. But he said he was seriously worried about the fact that he could not get an answer to the query about whether there are plans for the State Security Service to arrest or detain other opposition voices based on this list they admitted is in their possession. He urges the government of Goodluck Jonathan to make a statement in this regard and give a firm undertaking that the era of repression of political opponents is gone. He thanks Nigerians, the national and international civil society groups and the international community that kept the pressure on the government over the weekend. He said their love, care and concern has made his resolve to continue on the path of truth firmer, as he believes the Nigeria of our dream shall ultimately be attained with each of us doing our bit. He said he appreciates the courtesies showed him by the SSS officers who dealt with him and further appreciates that they have a job to do in defence and protection of national security. He said he hopes such courtesies that were extended to him are standard and across the board and not just based on status.Signed:Kennedy Emetulu Tosin Awotesu Emeka Enechi (For and on behalf of Respect Nigerians Coalition)

448x252.jpgBill first wrote about digital money 15 years ago in his book “The Road Ahead”. These days, he’s excited about financial services being offered in Africa over mobile phones. They provide an easy, safe and affordable way for millions of poor people to send, receive and store money.

When I visited Kenya last December I had a chance to observe M-PESA, which is a mobile money service that is being used by more than 13 million people for storing and transferring money. Services like M-PESA are exciting because financial services of any kind have been available to only 10 percent of the 2.5 billion people who live on less than $2 per day. M-PESA showed me a new world of possibility brought by that great piece of technology, the mobile phone. A recent study found, among other things, that M-PESA allows users to maintain steady levels of consumption, particularly of food, through shocks such as job loss, illness, harvest failure and livestock deaths.

This sense of promise and excitement came through loudly in a recent foundation-hosted Global Savings Forum, which explored a number of approaches to solving the micro-savings challenge.

I participated in a panel discussion about the types of partnerships that can take financial services to every household in developing countries. We discussed how technology-enabled models can allow service providers to focus on particular services or customer segments, and scale them up quickly.

The panel included representatives of different kinds of financial service providers, including a national commercial bank (Equity of Kenya), a global association of community-based banks (World Council of Credit Unions), a promoter of informal village-level savings and loan associations (CARE), and the mobile phone company behind the most successful deployment of mobile financial services to date (Safaricom of Kenya). The panel also included representatives of a global online payments provider (PayPal) and solution providers (MPower Labs and Obopay)...

The discussion began with the dynamic duo of Michael Joseph, outgoing CEO of Safaricom, and James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Bank, talking about their prominent M-KESHO partnership. They have developed a jointly-branded service that connects Equity Bank accounts with M-PESA’s powerful network.

I was interested to hear from both Mr. Joseph and Mr. Mwangi about the challenges involved in such a competitive yet cooperative joint product offering. Both are extremely protective of the powerful brands they have created, and putting them together without diluting either is a concern. I very much welcomed their challenge to other telcos and banks to be bold in their approach.

I was also struck by how Brian Branch, CEO of the World Council of Credit Unions, recognized that scale is a problem for the smaller community-based banks he represents, but also an opportunity. They are seeking ways to band together to find common technology solutions and partner with bigger players with national payment platforms such as Safaricom. This way they can remain true to the interests of the local communities they serve, offering more services at a lower cost.

Technology can be a major force to advance financial inclusion, which can help improve the lives of the poor in the developing world. This is an important focus of the foundation’s efforts. At the Global Savings Forum, we pledged $500 million over five years to help create access to savings accounts that will help increase the financial security of the world’s poorest.

I’m personally very excited about these efforts, which have the potential to replicate in other key markets. As I mentioned at the forum, I look forward to seeing similar partnerships replicate at scale in big countries such as India, Ethiopia and Nigeria.

The four weeks Nigerian hip-hop artist Naeto Chikwe, BS '04, spent at the 2010 World Cup, performing at MTV concerts, FIFA parties, and private clubs in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, was the culmination of a two-month whirlwind tour, which included an appearance at the 2010 Africa Fashion Awards.

But after the Spanish team won the World Cup, the singer—who goes by the stage name Naeto C.—became conscious of other responsibilities creeping into the back of his mind.

The most imminent looming deadline was his master's dissertation, which analyzed a business model that could decentralize Nigerian systems of power. It was due to his adviser at Dundee University in Scotland a few weeks later.

"For the past year and a half, I have been traveling across the world in between classes, trying to meet deadlines and write research papers," he says.

Mr. Chikwe, whose debut album "U Know My P" sold millions of copies and won best new act at the 2008 MTV Africa Music Awards, came to GW in 2001 after a year at SUNY Old Westbury.

A biology major who hoped to go to medical school, Mr. Chikwe chose GW for its location and diversity. He focused on doing well in his classes, which required keeping his extracurricular hobbies to a minimum.

"School was pretty hectic," he says. "It didn't really give me much time to pursue music. I never considered myself to actually be a musician or to have a future in music."

After graduation, it was a different story. Mr. Chikwe wrote and produced music tracks to pay his bills. Though still considering a public health career, he could not ignore the positive responses his music received. When the Nigeria-based record label Storm 360 offered him a contract, he decided to move to Abuja, the capital of the West African nation.

Hip hop was not the dream Mr. Chikwe's father, Herbert Chikwe, and mother, Kema Chikwe, the Nigerian ambassador to Ireland and Iceland, had in mind for their son.

"My parents weren't really too supportive of my decision because they spent all this money putting me through good schools around the world, and all of a sudden I was making music," he says. "There was pressure coming from them, and I put pressure on myself. I just wanted to do it right, and I knew I had to do it big."

As his international reputation grew, Mr. Chikwe made an unorthodox decision—to use part of his earnings from his first album to pursue a master's degree in energy economics.

"I'm 27. If I don't get this second degree now, I will put out another album, will hopefully become a bigger artist, and will become busier and busier. When will I find the time to go back to school?" he says. "There are other challenges out there. I had to make sure my education was a top priority."

Mr. Chikwe is also using his newfound fame to encourage young Africans to pursue an education through his campaign, School is Cool.

"Africans listen to their role models," he says. "It takes more than a government coming up with an education campaign. The kids are paying attention to music. They think, 'I want to be like that guy.'"

With his B.S. from GW and a master's degree on the way, Mr. Chikwe can discuss education in a way that "comes across as real, so it's more convincing," he says.

Although Mr. Chikwe's music is rooted in Africa, it has an international reach.

"I try to rap in an accent that is accessible not just for Nigerians but also for Westerners and for a global audience," he says. "I take different elements that I know will appeal to a global audience and then focus on what makes me unique as an artist and as an individual, and I articulate that in my music."

Sunday Sermon: Behind enemy lines

.Behind enemy lines

MV5BMTQ0MzMwMDI4M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTAxMDMyMQ@@._V1._SY314_CR1,0,214,314_.jpgThere comes a time in the Christian life when you realize that the verse “Who will deliver me from the

body of this death” becomes a REVELATION. Paul went through that phase and from his words , the

agony of bondage was best described .

This is when you know that you are at the CROSSROADS of your belief  in God .It might take a few

days to struggle through this or it might take many years to realize that ,there is a  a real WAR going

on ! .

If as Christians we do not realize that the weapons of OUR WARFARE are not carnal but are mighty

through God to the pulling down of STRONGHOLDS We will be beaten utterly.

If I make a false move I will be overrun and crippled by the enemy .IT IS REAL.

In Physical WARFARE the reality of DEATH is ALIVE , it is a very clear and present TRUTH. It was

recorded that in the Battle of the Somme one of the largest battles of the First World War: by the time

fighting had petered out in late autumn 1916 the forces involved had suffered more than 1.5 million

casualties , making it one of the bloodiest military operations ever recorded.

There are times when we forget who we are and where we are, sometimes, some of the worst

circumstances and situations in our lives are occurring,Relationships  e.g Marital, financial maybe even

Spiritual conflicts within us where we SEARCH frantically around us for the God that promised to bea

VERY PRESENT HELP in TROUBLE …….   and Gbosa ! a mighty offensive by the ENEMY is launched and

we come crashing  DOWN wounded, crippled sometimes “DEAD”.

The Bible talks about those that heard the word and received it with JOY ! but when trials and

tribulation arise they not having a root in themselves FALL.

In War the word FAILURE means DEATH.In Spiritual warfare the word FAILURE also means DEATH , but

of the ETERNAL sort.Christ is coming for overcomers ,OVERCOMERS ! not FAILURES.

Who loved not their life unto death. Who never gave up. But believed that God could actually raise

Isaac from the dead.

See Hebrews 11:33 for the HALL of FAME for FAITH.

In the movie behind enemy lines we learn of two American Fighter pilots shot down in Bosnia.

One was captured and immediately murdered while the other one had the run of his life behind enemy

lines. He went thorugh physical trials that had his resourcefulness not come in he would have perished.

Are you behind enemy lines ? Are you surrounded and escape has become a sightless proposition the

weapons of your warfare have become carnal and you “know” you are dogmeat

! Where is GOD ? where is he ? He is not coming my dear, he can't come especially when he has

already come. The bible calls him a clear andpresent help in times of trouble. This absolves him off your

pitiful cries forhelp.Because he is right there  with you, you either agree or disagree it is your choice.

He has blessed you with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies, how he treats you is different from

everyother person that has been alive , he said it himself , I will have mercy on whom I wilt and I

chasten those whom I love !

God’s chastening  is not a small thing at all.

If you are going through anything the mighty God has assured you that he will not allow anything that

you can't overcome. He knows this fact that YOU yes you reading this are an overcomer !

In this wilderness period be clear in your heart that God Loves you. It is a foundation of Victory and

the exact manifestation of your relationship with God and exactly whom you perceive the Lord to be .

In this my life Pain and suffering  have been very close friends, Betrayal and loneliness siblings elder

Brother and younger sister respectively,Apathy and despair first cousins and Nanny day care,

Still diligently searching for life to make sense were my nannies and the quintessential “Body of this

Death” became my shadow, In all this I knew the truth , I was sure of the existence of “the” God the

one that had the key .I remember telling a close friend in college this during one of our far flung

discussions into the wee hours whilst we were having bottles of beer I said ,”

There has got to be a God , there is no way else else we will all be dead for the evidence of EVIL

around the world needed no Prophet to prophesy “ My friend laughed but ever since then I had this

understanding etched within my medulla oblongata, I can even sense his presence now.

Just like that revelation in my  college days I am now FULLY aware that we are in a massive

SPIRITUAL BATTLE , Big one very big one, Victory means Overcoming ! even If this overcoming means

dying without seeing anything Abraham never saw himself become the father of all nations but that

old Papa , stuck to the “weird” voice talking to him.

Old man Noah must have honestly had some really horrible nightmares, I am not talking about the fact

that he must have also been the local fool, imagine building a Ship of those dimensions on dry land

without a trace of water around and here he is preaching his sermon “folk ,It is gonna be raining Cats

& Dogs  soon” and come to think of it the man was neither affiliated with the Norwegian ship builders

nor had any close pals at Julius Berger  !

All these guys were deep behind enemy lines but my o my they kept at their ministry in spite of the

bad chemistry , they HAD the ministry of FAITH and by this they PLEASED GOD.

So you see behind enemy lines is where we can make the worst damage not amongst friendly troops

and it is also the be easiest place to be SHOT DOWN !
Christ was the absolute underground resistance fighter , he went so deep behind enemy lines that he

is said to have made an open show of them and he even PREACHED to the souls in Hell ! Triumphing

over them in it ! AMEN.

Satan must have been dancing for Joy when he heard all these words from theauthor and finisher of

our faith

Luke22:42

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be

done.

KJV

Mark15:34

4 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lamasabachthani? which is,

being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me ?

KJV...

God never did. He was always with his Son Deep Behind Enemy Lines Which he Created !

And He is With you too EVEN NOW !

Motorola-Xoom-Body.jpgMotorola and Google must have been pleased at hearing the Xoom tablet computer was voted the best tablet at the CES 2011. The computer electronics show is an annual event where the best and the not so good display their models which are due for release next year.

In what is set to be a competitive year in the tablet computing industry, with numbers expected to triple over the coming years, Motorola’s new product has done exceptionally well to win the coveted ‘best in show’ award.

The Xoom runs Google’s Android operating system 3.0 which has been called Honeycomb. This operating system has been optimized for tablet computers.

Motorola and Google launched the marketing campaign for the Xoom last year with subtle and not so subtle strategies. It peaked the interest then and it is nice to see a product deliver on the back of the hype.

It will be interesting to see if it can take on the iPad once it is released...

Can Android Tablets Compete with the iPad?

notion-google-android-650x396.jpg

We’ve rounded up what we know about upcoming Google Android tablets to see if any devices will give the Apple iPad a true rival.

With the success of Apple’s iPad, virtually every manufacturer is brainstorming their own version attempting to ride the tablet wave. Sound familiar? The tablet market seems to be following the path of smartphones, but there is a key difference this time: Apple doesn’t have quite the head start they had back when the first iPhone was released. Android has made a big dent in the mobile industry and it’s looking to do the same for tablets. Apple sold 3 million iPads in the first 80 days and they’re expected to sell around 20 million more in 2011. If Android wants to get its foot in the door then the time is now, before they fall behind again and it takes years to catch up. More and more manufactures are unveiling plans for tablets and the vast majority are choosing Android (sans HP with their Web OS tablet). Below we’ve rounded up everything we know at this point about upcoming Android tablets and when they might hit the market. If there is a tablet we have missed, let us know and we will add it to the list!

archos-7.jpgArchos 7

The Archos 7 features a 7-inch (800×400) display, 8GB of internal storage along with a micro SDHC slot (for additional storage) and an ARM Cortex A8 processor. The Archos 7 has been available since March and it runs for $199.99.

cisco-cuis.jpgCisco Cius

Last month Cisco revealed its plans to join the tablet arms race with the Cius. The Cius will pack a 7-inch screen, a 720p webcam on the front and a 5 megapixel camera on the back. No firm launch date has been set, but Cisco has stated that they’re shooting for early next year.

altec-lancing-cruz-tablet.jpgVelocity Micro Cruz Tablet

Velocity Micro will step away from its luxury gaming throne to dabble in the emerging Android tablet market with the release of their Cruz Tablet this summer. It will feature a 7-inch touch-screen, 4GB of built-in storage, and will accept SD cards for additional storage. The Cruz Tablet will release this summer at a surprisingly low price of $300.

samsung-galaxy-tab.jpgSamsung Galaxy Tab P1000

Samsung unveiled a picture of its upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab last month and it looks like the iPad’s smaller twin. It will feature a 7-inch AMOLED display, Android 2.2, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD expansion slot, and will be powered by a 1.2GHz A8 processor. The Galaxy Tab is expected to launch sometime this summer and a larger 10-inch tablet from Samsung has been rumored to follow.

dell-streak.jpgDell Streak

Stewart Wolpin thought the Streak was closer to a large cell phone than a tablet in his hands-on impressions, but it’s being promoted as a tablet so we’ll play along. The streak will feature a 5-inch display, 5 megapixel camera, and integrated social media apps such as Twitter and Facebook. No solid release date has been set for the Streak, but its unlocked price is expected to be $500.

notion-ink-adam.jpgNotion Ink Adam

The Adam will be the first tablet on the market to feature the Pixel Qi display. The 10-inch transflective LCD display offers 3 different modes for viewing including a reflective e-paper mode for low power viewing even in bright sunlight. The Adam is expected to be released in Q3 of this year in selected countries.

icd-ultra-android-tablet.jpgICD Ultra

ICD’s follows up its 15-inch Vega tablet with the ICD Ultra, a smaller Android-based device. The ICD Ultra will feature a 7-inch touchscreen display, a NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset, and integrated 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Pricing and a final release date have not been set.

pandigital-novel.jpgPandigital Novel

The Pandigital Novel can be classified as an eReader but since it features a web browser and media player we think it crosses into tablet territory as well. The Novel will features a 7-inch color 800×600 touchscreen, an SD card slot for adding storage, and will integrate with the Barnes & Noble eBookstore. It will be priced at $199 and is slated to go on sale this month.

nec-lifetouch.jpgNEC Life Touch

The Life touch will feature a 7-inch TFT LCD screen, ARM Cortex A8 processor and 256MB of RAM. The Android 2.1 device is expected to be available in Japan in October with no official price as of this article.

google-tablet.jpgGoogle Tablet

Details are still scarce on the rumored Google Android Tablet. There have been reports that Verizon and Google are working together on a tablet, but at this point we don’t even know if Google’s Tablet will run on Chrome OS or Android.

acer-tablet.jpgAcer Tablet

The Acer tablet looks very similar to its LumiRead e-book reader that was announced at the same event back in may. Not many details have been released but we do know that it will feature a 7-inch color display, will run Android, and has a likely Q4 release date.

lg-tablet.jpgLG Tablet

LG announced on July 6th that they will be jumping into the Android tablet market. They didn’t however provide any details on the device, only stating that it plans to release it in the fourth quarter of this year.

12166228662?profile=originalWith the Lagos Guber Candidate Ticket of Fashola confirmed by the ACN .

Now, for the second time in a month, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday accused the Federal Government of plotting to arrest and silence its national leader and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Federal Government, the ACN alleged, plans to put Tinubu out of circulation to check his rising political profile and demobilise the ACN ahead of April’s general election.

The party had on December 5 last year alerted Nigerians to "the surreptitious and dangerous moves being made to silence Tinubu."

A few days later, the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) chair, Sam Saba, said the CCB would dust up against Tinubu, a case of keeping a foreign account while in office. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier investigated the case without any evidence against the former governor...

Spokesman of the ACN, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, told reporters in Lagos yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan had finally succumbed to the "unceasing pressure by signing on to the evil plan."

Mohammed said: "Now, we have it on a good authority that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, (Mr. Mohammed Adoke), has been under tremendous pressure to look for any offence, no matter how flimsy, to get Tinubu arrested and prosecuted – just to put him away." He alleged that the President "may sign a warrant of Tinubu’s arrest anytime from now."

He warned: "We will not sit back and fold our arms while those who fought for the democracy we are enjoying today are demonised and decapitated. We reject the targeting of Tinubu, who they see as the architect of the change that is threatening the PDP.

"Nothing must happen to this icon of democracy and good governance, so as not to set in motion a chain of events the end of which no one can predict."

Mohammed said the ACN’s phenomenal leap is making the PDP envious, hence the focus on Tinubu who is seen as "the architect of PDP’s deconstruction, who has to be stopped at all costs."

Apart from winning back its mandate in Edo, Ekiti and Osun states in the South-West where its candidates are now occupying the government houses, the ACN has also been making an in-road into other parts of the country.

Mohammed said internal democracy in the ACN and its discipline have attracted into the party the likes of Senator John James Akpanodoedehe (Akwa Ibom); Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and ex-Governor Achike Udenwa (Imo State); Former Transport Minister Abiye Sekibo (Rivers State); Senator George Akume (Benue State), Senator Saminu Turaki (Jigawa State); Senator Joel Danlami (Taraba State); five members of the National Assembly in Anambra State and the entire Congress of Progressive Party (CPC) structure in Bauchi State.

"As our party’s fortune rises, the prospect of the ruling PDP becomes dimmer and dimmer by the day.

"As the general elections approach, it is becoming increasingly clear to the discerning that we are the toast of all Nigerians seeking better governance and the deepening of democracy".

During the week, former President Olusegun Obasanjo was believed to have visited the national secretariat of the PDP to press the leadership to "do something about the crises in the party in the South-West so as to check the ACN" or he would quit.

Mohammed said those behind the plot to arrest Tinubu, in one of their meetings, "said everything must be done to stop the putative alliance between our party and the CPC, which they see as capable of ending the years of misrule by the PDP."

He then raised some posers: "Why the arrest of Tinubu at the time of the registration of voters? Why when there is a merger talk between the ACN and the CPC? Why when people are leaving the PDP in droves?"

He said the PDP men pressuring the President to get Tinubu arrested "are firmly of the belief that his arrest will destabilise the ACN".

Mohammed said there is a growing desperation by the PDP, saying the sum of $1billion "was secretly and hurriedly shared out to states from the excess crude accounts, just to secure support for President Jonathan and give his backers the necessary war chest needed to fight ahead of the April election." The money, he alleged, was shared in foreign currency to the detriment of the naira.

"In recent times, bombs have been exploding across the country in an unprecedented degeneration of security in a country that is not at war. Hundreds have been killed or maimed. Do we know those behind it? Do we know their motives? Could it be part of the end game? We leave Nigerians to judge."

But Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation yesterday dismissed the allegations. The organisation also said it was not true that six Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors were made to donate N500 million each to the President's campaign.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the organisation, Mr. Sully Abu, in a statement in Abuja frowned at what he called "the recent penchant of politicians for broadcasting total fabrications in the garb of 'revelations'."

The ploy, according to Abu, is to "pile up one lie over the other with the hope that something murky would stick."

Describing Alhaji Mohammed's allegations as similar to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's "tissue of lies", Abu wondered under what financial sub-heads the monies allegedly taken from states' coffers would have been released.

He called on the security agencies to investigate Mohammed's "outrageous claims" that "one billion dollars have been secretly and hurriedly shared out to the states from the excess crude oil accounts, just to secure support for President Jonathan and give his backers the necessary war chest needed to fight ahead of April's election."

Abu stressed that no amount of blackmail or wicked propaganda would distract President Jonathan from his focused march to keep a date with destiny in the 2011 elections

Jesus or Paul? It’s time to make a choice. I wonder what those who choose to follow Paul would call themselves. Since apparently, they aren’t ‘Christians’ by definition. Maybe Paulines. LOL. The following article was lifted from 234next.com. I just couldn’t resist re-posting it here to see what my readers have to say about it. Let’s go! Every Christian must decide whether s/he is a follower of Jesus or a follower of Paul. Don’t make the mistake of many in assuming the two are the same. For starters, take a look at the following discrepancies. Inconsistencies Jesus says children of God are born (Jn 3:3); but Paul says they are adopted (Rm 8:23). Jesus says God must be the only father of believers (Mt 23:9); but Paul says he (Paul) is the father of some believers (Phile 1:10; 1 Cor 4:15). Jesus says he is the only pastor and the only teacher (Jn 10:16; Mt 23:8); but Paul says there are many pastors and teachers (Eph 4:11; 1 Tim 2:7). Jesus says we should pray in private (Mt 6:5-6); but Paul says we should pray everywhere (1 Tim 2:8). Jesus says we should not eat food sacrificed to idols (Rev 2:14); but Paul says it does not matter if we do (Rm 14:14). Jesus himself was circumcised (Lk 2:21); but Paul says if we are circumcised we would be estranged from Christ (Gal 5:2-4). Jesus says we should not receive payment for preaching the gospel (Mt 10:8); but Paul says we should (1 Cor 9:11). Jesus asks us to baptise as we preach the gospel (Mt 28:19); but Paul dismisses the importance of baptism (1 Cor 1:17). Jesus says lying is of the devil (Jn 8:44); but Paul says God’s truth increased through the lies he told (Rm 3:7). Jesus says the word of God is truth (Jn 7:17); but Paul says the gospel can be preached with falsehood (Php 1:18). Jesus is against the use of deception (Jn 1:47); but Paul boasts of using deception (2 Cor 12:16). Jesus says we should love one another (Jn 13:34); but Paul wished some people would be castrated (Gal 5:12). Jesus says we should love our enemy in order to be like God (Mt 5:44-45); but Paul says we should love our enemy in order to pour coals of fire on his head (Rm 12:20). Jesus says we should not swear or curse (Mt 5:34-37; Lk 6:28); but Paul swears and curses (2 Cor 1:23; Gal 1:9). Jesus says God’s children don’t bear arms and don’t fight (Mt 26:52; Jn 18:36); but Paul says God’s ministers bear arms and use them (Rm 13:3-4). Jesus says we should disregard public opinion (Lk 6:26; Jn 15:18-19); but Paul actively courts public opinion (1 Cor 10:33; 1 Cor 9:20-22). Jesus says he who is acceptable to God will be hated by men (Jn 15:18-19; Lk 16:15); but Paul says he will be approved by men (Rm 14:18). Jesus says we should seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Mt 6:33); but Paul says we should seek glory, honour and immortality (Rm 2:7). Jesus says the kingdom of God has been taken away from Israel (Mt 21:43); but Paul says all Israel will be saved (Rm 11:26). Jesus says only a few of those called will be chosen (Mt 22:14); but Paul says all those called will be chosen (Rm 11:29). Jesus says salvation is by works (Mt 7:21; Mt 21:28-31); but Paul says it is by grace (Eph 2:8-9). Jesus says he completed his God-given assignment (Jn 17:4; Jn 19:30); but Paul says he completed what Jesus failed to complete (Col 1:24). Jesus says our trespasses will be forgiven if we forgive others (Mt 6:14-15); but Paul says they have already been forgiven (Eph 1:7). Jesus says we will be justified by our own words (Mt 12:37); but Paul says we are justified by faith (Rm 3:28). Jesus says eternal life is very costly (Mt 19:29; Lk 14:28-33); but Paul says it is a free gift (Rm 6:23). Jesus says God is not the God of the dead (Lk 20:38); but Paul says he is (Rm 14:9). Jesus says the commandments give life (Mt 19:17); but Paul says they bring death (Rm 7:10). Jesus says all the commandments are summed up in two commandments (Mt 22:37-40); but Paul says they are summed up in one commandment (Rm 13:9; Gal 5:14). Jesus says we should beware of anyone who says the day is at hand (Lk 21:8); but Paul says the day is at hand (Rm 13:12). Jesus says Abel, Adam’s direct son, was righteous (Mt 23:35); but Paul says all Adam’s descendants are unrighteous (Rm 5:12/19; Rm 3:10). Jesus says none of the Pharisees kept the law (Jn 7:19); but Paul says he kept all the laws of Moses as a Pharisee (Php 3:5-6). Jesus says we should be like God (Mt 5:48); but Paul says we should be like him (Gal 4:12; Php 3:17). Whose report do you believe? I only believe the report of Jesus Christ.

Panic in Lagos as bomb scare spreads

Over 1000 people were hurriedly evacuated from the Motorways Complex at Old Tollgate, Lagos State, South West Nigeria when rumour of a bomb scare spread through the complex.

There was pandemonium as Lagosians working in the complex hurriedly scampered to safety. The building houses over 45 companies, including two banks. Commercial activities in the complex were paralysed.

WORKERS OUTSIDE MOTOWAY COMPANY ALONG LAGOS IBADAN EXP WAY WHERE THIER IS AN INFROMATION THAT BOMB IS BEING PLANTED INSIDE THE BUILDING.

The bomb scare episode was ignited following an anonymous note found in a toilet of one of the companies’ resident in the complex warning that a bomb would explode in the building in the next six hours.

Anti-bomb policemen, members of the State Security Services, SSS raced to the scene and immediate evacuated the remaining occupants of the building and sealed it up while effort to find where the supposed bomb was located proved abortive.

The rumour about the bomb had spread across the complex around 2.00 p.m on Thursday.

People intending to go into the premises to transact businesses were turned back as the complex was condoned off by the police.

A staff of Office of the Public Defender, OPD told PM NEWS that they were asked to leave the complex when the news of the rumoured bomb scare spread.

Another source stated that the anonymous note found in one of the toilets was signed by an unknown group which described itself as Concerned Nigerians, while calling for evacuation of everyone in the building.

The note, it was gathered did not specify where the bomb was planted. It only said that the explosive due to explode was planted in one of the offices.

Some of the workers were seen gathered in groups discussing the incident. While some doubted the authenticity of the note, others did not ignore the warning.

This is the second time in four days that rumours of bomb scare would spread in the Lagos metropolis after the Jos and Abuja bombing episodes.

Efforts to get to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba to comment on the development proved abortive as calls to his handset were not picked.

More News from other Media:

There was panic among Lagos residents yesterday following reports that bombs might detonate at Alausa, Ikeja, the state capital...

The reports alleged that bombs were planted inside the premises of Motorways Plaza, near the old toll gate by noon and that they would go off in six hours.

Sources said a note was found in one of the male toilets in the complex, warning occupants to vacate the building in their own interest.

The note advised the occupants to stay away until next week.

It was gathered that when the news spread, the occupants began to move to areas considered safe.

The news also spread to the neighbourhood and the metropolis.

Representatives of Embassies and High Commissions in Lagos made calls to security agencies to confirm the veracity of the story.

A Police source told The Nation yesterday: “Most of them wanted to know if they should commence the evacuation of their nationalities from Lagos.”

Businesses were closed in Alausa as the residents called their family members, advising them against going to Ikeja.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Marvel Akpoyibo, described the reports as spurious.

He said the information was mischievous and circulated to destabilise the state.

Akpoyibo urged residents to beware of those peddling false information through text messages, phone calls or any other means. He said such people only caused unnecessary panic.

The Police chief warned those behind the false alerts to desist, saying it is against the law.

He assured residents that the Police would check the information, investigate it and know what to do about it.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Bomb Disposal Unit, Mr Chris Olakpe, said his men combed the scene with bomb detection equipment but did not find any explosive.

He said his unit would continue to “sweep” the area until further notice.

Residents of Alausa and its environs were jittery...

The news broke during the inauguration of the 250 modern cabs by the government.

It disrupted business activities at Motorways Plaza; other nearby buildings hurriedly shut.

_50705987_okafor.jpgThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed shock over the death of former international Uche Okafor on Thursday in the United States

The body of the ex-Super Eagles defender was found in his Texas apartment by his wife shortly after he returned home from dropping off his daughter in school.

"This is very, very sad. Mr. Uche Okafor served this country with distinction and we are taken aback by the nature of his demise." NFF secretary-general Musa Amadu said in a statement.

"All the same, at this time, we can only pray to God for repose of his gentle soul.

Okafor, 43, was in the Super Eagles for almost a decade, and was a key member of the squad when Nigeria won their second African Cup of Nations title, in Tunisia in 1994.

Okafor represented Nigeria at two World Cups.

He was in the Super Eagles squad at the 1994 World Cup in the United States - Nigeria's first appearance in the global tournament.

He also played at the 1998 World Cup in France when Nigeria reached the second round.

"It came as a rude shock because Uche (Okafor) had gradually become a player some youngsters want to emulate," Ben Iroha who played with the late Okafor told BBC Sport.

"He was an articulate, smart and gentle man on and off the field...

"We will all miss him greatly."

Uche played for his home club ACB Lagos before moving to Belgian where he played for Mechelen and Namur.

He also played for clubs in France, Portugal and Israel before ending his career with American outfit Kansas City Wizards.

Since retiring from the game, Okafor has remained part of the game off-field.

Okafor was a representative of sport kit manufactures NIKE before creating a niche for himself as a football analyst on the international scene.

Just last month, he signed a contract with American television station ESPN as an African football expert.

A few days to the national assembly primaries of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole is facing accusations of promoting the interests of politicians who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to his party, ACN....Photo Right :former PDP Domingo

Mr Oshiomole assumed office in November 2008 following the declaration by the court of appeal that he, and not the then sitting PDP governor, Oserheimen Osunbor, won the 2007 gubernatorial elections in Edo State. But a few months to the 2011 general elections, many stalwarts of the PDP including a senator, and members of the House of Representatives have decamped to the ACN in the state; a situation which is now causing ripples within the party..

“We don’t know why the comrade governor is doing this. People who rigged against him and the ACN in 2007, people who spent their money to ensure that he never got to office, are the same people he is now supporting against those of us who stood by him and have always been with the party,” a senior official of the ACN in Edo State, told NEXT.

One of the areas of tension is the candidacy of the party for Edo north senatorial district. At a meeting held Tuesday evening at the Benin GRA residence of the governor, elders and leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) from Akoko Edo local government area of Edo State were informed by Mr Oshiomhole, after about five hours of deliberation, that he was in support of one of the senatorial candidates from the local government, and he wanted the party leaders to follow suit. The trouble is that the man is a recent decampee from the PDP.

“The governor told us that he wanted us to support Deacon Domingo [Obeinde]. They are all our sons, but his support for Domingo really surprised and upset us,” a participant at the meeting told NEXT.

Prior to the meeting, there were three aspirants for posts under the platform of the ACN. The three aspirants, who all attended the meeting, are Peter Akpatason, former president of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG); Tunde Lakoju, the present commissioner for agriculture and natural resources and AC senatorial candidate in 2007; and Domingo Obeinde, a former senatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007.

Though there are six local governments in the senatorial zone (Etsako east, Etsako central, Etsako west, Owan west, Owan east, and Akoko Edo), NEXT learnt that the ACN zoned the ticket to Akoko Edo because the local government had not produced a senator since 1999.

Other cases of support

Mr Obeinde’s endorsement by the governor is causing a stir within the CAN, as party members feel the governor is unduly favouring PDP decampees. This sort of support for PDP decampees is however not peculiar only to Mr Obeinde, who alongside several other PDP stalwarts recently decamped to the ACN.

When Edobor Uzamere, a senator elected on the platform of the PDP in 2007, decamped to the ACN in September 2010, he told his colleagues on the floor of the senate that the PDP ticket is equivalent to Zimbabwean dollars. Mr Edobor, who represents Edo South in the senate, is another decampee who allegedly enjoys the support of the governor. Supporters of his main opponent for the ACN ticket, Matthew Urokhigbe (a pharmacist), accuse the governor of abandoning loyal party members for decampees.

“The governor is trying to destroy this party by supporting these decampees. There is no guarantee that when they win, they will not decamp back to where they came from,” an ACN leader and supporter of Mr. Urokhigbe told NEXT.

Yet another decampee who reportedly enjoys Mr. Oshiomole’s support is Patrick Obahiagbon, a member of the House of Representatives who left the PDP for the ACN. Mr Obahiagbon, who represents Oredo federal constituency in the House, is mainly challenged for the ACN ticket by Rasak Bello-Osagie, a businessman.

Efforts to reach Mr Oshiomhole were unsuccessful as his principal private secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde did not answer calls placed to his phone or respond to a text message sent to the number.

If you are a person that pays attention to your health you should know we are in the middle of a health war and it looks like the enemy is winning. Cancer is now the number one cause of death in the United States, obesity is at an all time high, and we are identifying diabetic teenagers on a regular basis.  Young adults with heart disease are the norm. We are taking medications that are supposed to help us (which they do) but they have side effects which are breaking down our bodies and preventing us from achieving optimal health.

The food we eat is a mess as well. You need to look into high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, MSG and you’ll see what I mean. There’s a reason you can’t eat just one French fry or one potato chip, these chemical laced foods are designed to keep you eating. Your body doesn’t recognize chemicals, it cannot properly digest them  so it stores it as fat, which may lead to the accumulation of free radicals which could be one of the reasons cancer is killing so many of us. I also feel these chemicals are the catalyst for our obesity issues. As I stated before, your body stores these chemicals as fat. Your body pulls these chemicals away from your major organs and surrounds it with fat and water.

These days so many people have trouble losing that last 10-12 lbs. When we are eating food that has more chemicals than nutrients there is no wonder we are obese and full of disease.

As bad as all this sounds there is good news. We can rid our bodies of toxins, we can fill our bodies with nutrients, we can lose those stubborn 10-12lbs. Nutritional cleansing is the key. Many of you may not be familiar with Nutritional Cleansing.

Many cleanses deal with cleansing specific organs. Nutritional cleansing works at a cellular level, so we’re talking about cleansing your entire body from head to toe. Many cleanses require you to fast.  Nutritional cleansing programs REQUIRE you to eat. Many cleanses help you to lose weight but in the process you may lose muscle. With nutritional cleansing you may lose the weight while you gain lean muscle. The most powerful component of nutritional cleansing is the replenishing aspect. ALL cleanses remove toxins from your bodies; however, when your body is still lacking the proper nutrients your body is not capable of truly taking care of itself. What nutritional cleansing does is not only cleanse the body but it also provides the body with vital nutrients which also enables the body to function at its highest level, which in turn helps the body to fight off disease and stay healthy and keep you feeling great.

I interviewed former World Series Champion Sean Wooten, listen as he discusses the powerful benefits of nutritional cleansing.
