Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney feels his side need two 'big name' signings this summer in order to compete at the highest level next season.

Rooney and United will take on Stoke City on Sunday in a bid to topple Chelsea at the top of the Premier League, but the England international is already looking ahead to the next campaign.

“If we can bring in two big name players it would give us a good chance of getting the league back if Chelsea do win it," he told The People.

"If you look at the team in 1999 that won the Treble we had four forwards, all capable of scoring goals.

“Now there is me, [Dimitar] Berbatov and Michael Owen. There is Federico Macheda too, but if we can get one more top forward in it would give us the right balance.”.

However, Rooney, who has scored 26 league goals this term, has not given up all hope of United lifting a fourth consecutive league title.

He fully expects Wigan Ahtletic to give rivals Chelsea a tough time at Stamford Bridge, which in turn would allow Sir Alex Ferguson's men the opportunity to capture their 19th League title.

“I am sure the Wigan [Athletic] players will be trying their best," he added.

"They will have eight weeks’ holiday after Sunday’s game so I am sure they will want to end the season with a win. It is a good stage for them.

“They have a good young manager who has done well in keeping them up in his first season in charge and I am sure they won’t roll over.”

Rooney also revealed how he has relished the chance to lead United's frontline after the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

The striker has thrived under the added responsibility and hopes to better his 34-goal tally next season.

“The manager [Sir Alex Ferguson] told me he would be playing me more up front and I knew that with [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Carlos] Tevez leaving I would have to score more goals," he added.

"To score so many this time was fantastic - but it’s still not my best season. I once scored 76 in a season when I was 11.

"But it’s my best as a professional and I know the expectation will be there for me to do it again next season.”

In the mean time Rooney will be aiming to finish the season in style, with the faint hope of a Premier League title celebration to follow the full-time whistle at Old Trafford.

He was said to have brought her from Egypt

Criticisms continued to trail the alleged marriage of former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Ahmed Sani to a 13-year old Egyptian girl.pix200707062243171.jpg

The former governor reportedly paid $100,000 as bride price to the parents of the minor.

But in a statement made available to our correspondent in Lokoja on Monday, the National Council of Women Societies condemned the action of the senator, describing it as shameful.

Speaking through its National President, Hajia Ramatu Usman, the umbrella women’s organisation said Sani’s action did not come to Nigerian women as a surprise because, according to them, many northern governors had been using religion as an excuse for not passing the Child Rights Act.

She further stated that the council had been mounting a campaign against young girls being given out for marriage at ridiculously early ages of 12 or 13 years, adding that the action was against all reasoning.

According to Usman, “Vesico vaginal fistula has been attributed to under age marriages due to the practice of early marriages in Nigeria, where young girls are given out for marriage at ridiculously early ages as 12 or 13 years. They get pregnant and when they are ready to deliver, their pelvises are so small for the babies to pass through.

“The baby gets stuck in the birth canal and in some cases dies. The baby‘s head wears a hole between the birth canal and the bladder (VVF) or rectum (RVF).

“So, when the dead baby is eventually delivered, the young mother is left with a dead child and she begins to drain urine and/or stool continuously. She develops sores on her skin and smells horribly from the constant drips of urine and stool on her clothes.”

The body therefore advised parents to avoid giving out their under age daughters in marriage in order to check cases of this health risk, which it said is particularly common in the northern part of Nigeria.

The statement further said, “It is a shame that while we are seeking ways to view closely what pushes parents into giving out their underage daughters into early marriages, a former governor of a state is celebrating this act of child trafficking and abuse.”

It also called on well-meaning Nigerians to mount pressure on northern governors to immediately commence work on the Child Rights Act.

Ibori's investigator attacked by gunmen

In a mafia Style take down reminiscent of the hollywood movie The Untouchables,

Solomon Yorr, an official of Nigeria's anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is in a battle for life as medical personnel struggle to patch up his bullet ridden chest.

Mr. Yorr, in the past few weeks, has been intensely involved in the investigation of the former Delta State governor, James Ibori . He is the second-in-command of the team in charge of Mr. Ibori's investigation.

Mr. Yorr, who is attached to the Economic Governance Unit, an elite group in the commission which handles mainly cases of Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), was attacked by gunmen on Sunday night in his home in Keffi, Nassarawa.

Femi Babafemi, the head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, in a press statement yesterday, said that the operative is now receiving medical attention and has been installed in an Intensive Care Unit(ICU) in Abuja.

EFCC operatives, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, expressed fears that the attempt on Mr. Yorr's life was not unconnected with the high profile investigations that he has been handling.

Increased tempo and increased attacks

Mr. Babafemi of the EFCC told NEXT in Abuja yesterday, that the recent attacks on operatives of the commission was a result of the increased pace of high profile investigations undertaken by the commission, while debunking the idea that the recent attacks was indicative of a revamp in the quality of investigations being carried out by the EFCC.

"The steam has always been there. We are also raising the tempo of our activities. Some of these attacks are rooted in the desperation of some corrupt politicians to succeed in the 2011 elections. We had already alerted the public on the threats that we have been receiving," he said.

Mr. Babafemi said that between December, 2009 and March, 2010, two active operatives and one former operative of the commission had been killed. But he restated the determination of the anti- corruption agency to go ahead with its duties.

"The EFCC chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri, has since directed that security should be beefed up around the officer, while she prays for his recovery. She has equally stressed that the various attacks against the agency and its officials will not in any way distract or deter us," Mr. Babafemi said.

Taking care of its own

A Lagos-based human rights attorney, Jiti Ogunye, however, had harsh words for the leadership of the anti-graft agency, who he says is not doing enough to safe guard the lives of its operatives.

"My observation is that the leadership of the EFCC may not be doing enough to protect its operatives," he said, adding that he feared that the continued attacks on operatives could demoralise their colleagues.

"For a law enforcement agency, it is important that perpetually, the capacity of that agency is bolstered such that it stays ahead of criminals or would-be-criminals. Part of the capacity should be its ability to protect its operatives. It is very important that a law enforcement agency must be able to do that," Mr. Ogunye stressed..

Mr. Ogunye dismissed the idea that the EFCC may be working harder than in the past, and insisted that the leadership of the EFCC must look inwards to solve its current challenge.

"There might be a self-inflicted disability on the part of the leadership of the EFCC, because once the leadership is compromised, then the operatives will no longer be safe. The commission must look inwards to find out what they have not been doing right to protect their operatives," he said.

He pretends to be a nice guy who would readily offer a free ride to a willing female. But he’s actually a criminal whose ploy is to rob his victims. Olalekan Kazeem is currently telling police detectives in Lagos why he’s been going about the city robbing women of their personal effects. He was arrested by the police after one of his victims sighted him in Lagos. He is currently cooling his heels in a police cell, awaiting his date with the law.

Kaz-17-150x150.gif

Khadijat Ope was one of his victims. Her ordeal happened on a hot, sunny Saturday in Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb.
That day, she had waited without success for a commercial bus to take her to Victoria Island. Just as the she was contemplating calling a cab, a private car, a Toyota Camry, stopped and the driver offered her a ride.
The young man driving the car, later identified as Olalekan Kazeem, said he too was going to the island but that he had already missed his way.
The 23-year old student, who had gone to collect her West African Examination Council (WAEC) result, promised to guide the man.

Few minutes into their journey, Kazeem pretended that the car had developed some fault and stopped.
After alighting and examining the car, Kazeem implored the girl to assist him in pushing the car. The unsuspecting girl dropped her bag inside the car and climbed out. In the bag were her handset, some money, her identity card, a WAEC certificate and two ATM cards. But as soon as she came out of the car, Kazeem started the engine and zoomed off with Ope’s belongings.
That was not all. Through the girl’s data on her birth certificate in her bag, Kazeem got the password for the girl’s ATM card and promptly cleared her account at the First Bank.

Khadijat wasn’t the only victim. Kazeem also employed the same method to rob another lady, Jennifer Chizoba, of the sum of N150, 000 and other personal effects.
Chizoba, who spoke with Daily Sun said: “When the man picked me, he stopped on the road, saying that his vehicle was bad. He begged me to assist him in pushing the car. While I was pushing the car, the man zoomed off with my bag containing N150,000 which my relatives contributed for me to set up a business.”
Many other girls have been similarly defrauded by Kazeem. But luck recently ran out on the man who has for long made life unbearable for his victims. He’s now cooling his heels in a police cell.
Kazeem, who is currently singing like a bird at the Alapere police station was arrested when one of the victims sighted him at a car wash at the Alapere area and called in the police. He was subsequently picked up.

Recovered from him were five female handbags, 28 ATM cards, 12 identity cards, four national ID cards, two voters registration card, a Joint Matriculation Examination result, and other items.
The suspect who claimed he only targeted women told Daily Sun that he decided to start robbing them because he had earlier been robbed by a woman.
He said his journey into crime began in November last year. According to him, somebody had given him the sum of N160,000 to keep on trust at the Eko Le Meridien Hotel, Lagos.
Said he: “That day, I decided to eat at the Ocean View Restaurant. As I was eating, two beautiful young girls appeared from the blues. I approached one of them and I even paid her bill of N2, 500. I also bought drinks for them.”

‘Why I rob only women’

In his words, trouble started for him when he was fondling the breasts of one of the girls. According to him, he was sucking the girl’s breast when he slept off. He regained consciousness the following day, he said, adding that the girl might have coated her breast with a sleep-inducing drug.
While he slept, he said, the girl searched his pockets and collected all the money. She was also alleged to have taken his car keys and stole the N160, 000 inside the car.

According to him, the man who gave him the money on trust did not believe the story even after he had explained what happened and ordered Kazeem detained for a week at a police station in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
“My real predicament started when my wife came to visit me at the police station and a policeman told her how I sucked a prostitute’s breast. My wife could not take the insult, so she abandoned me to my fate.”
After his release, Kazeem said he decided to avenge his humiliation on any woman he came across. “Any time I pick a woman, I derive immense pleasure in dealing with her. I regard all my victims as prostitutes because a responsible woman would not be looking for a free ride with a total stranger,” he informed.

Kazeem has a word of advice for ladies. “They should stop looking for free ride with strangers. They should try to patronize registered taxis.”
The 37-year old Abeokuta indigene begged those he had offended to forgive him but said they should thank God that he had no gun when he was perpetrating the act as he would have used it on them.
Another victim, a model, Cynthia Kodu said the man had also applied the same method to rob her of her handbag containing handsets, N18, 000, underwear and make-up.

Lagos state police spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba said preliminary investigations have shown that the man has robbed over 30 female victims.
Mba, who said the man would soon be charged to the court, warned members of the public to stop patronizing unregistered taxis. “They should go to the recognized taxi parks to board taxis,” he said.

Are You Feeding Your Soul? Are you happy with what you see when you look in the mirror? And I’m not talking about your physical body when I ask this question — I’m talking about your spiritual body. Has your soul been getting the nourishment it needs to grow in health and strength, or have you deprived it from the Word it so desperately needs? If what you see in the mirror doesn’t even begin to reflect what you know you can be, it’s time to make a change, time to dive into God’s Word and receive all the love and forgiveness He has been waiting to give you . . . a time to release your life into God’s hands. The Word tells us, But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image (2 Corinthians 3:16-18 NLT). You may not like what you see now, but just wait. Rely on God’s faithfulness and perfect timing and begin to make changes when God shows you it is necessary. And soon, you’ll be able to look back and say, “Look where God moved me from. Look what He saved me from. I stand blessed where I am all because of the transforming grace of God.” An Evangelistic Tool The following is an evangelistic tool. Feel free to use this tool to lead someone to the Savior. It can also be used in your church. Tony lead the members of our church through this process, and then commissioned them to offer the good news to those they come in contact with in the course of their day. This is one of our outreach programs for this year. OPENING QUESTION: Has anyone ever shown you from the Bible how you can be sure you are on your way to heaven? Would you allow me to show you? I. First the Bad News a. The Problem: Every person is a sinner before a Holy God and unable to save themselves (Romans 3:10, 23). b. The Penalty: Every person is under the sentence of death and will be forever separated from God because of their sin (Romans 5:12; 6:23). I. Now the Good News a. The Provision: Through the substitutionary sacrificial death of Christ, God has addressed the sin problem for us (Romans 5:8, 17-21). b. The Pardon: God offers a free pardon and eternal life to all who place faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation (Romans 10:9-10; 4:4-5). CLOSING QUESTION: Would you like to trust the Lord Jesus Christ right now as your personal Savior? PRAYER: Lord Jesus thank You for dying on the cross for my sins and rising from the dead to save me. By transferring my total trust to You alone as my Savior, I now receive the forgiveness for my sins and the free gift of eternal life that You offered me.

Seven tips for observing a Daniel Fast or Daniel's Diet 1. Be specific Daniel was very clear in his objection to the Babylonian diet. He defined his objection immediately. Daniel 1:8 The king’s food was likely not kosher, against Jewish dietary laws. Daniel and his friends had vowed against wine. The king’s food could have been offered up to idols or demons. Write out and sign a commitment that outlines Why you are fasting. How long you are fasting. From what you are fasting. 2. Fast as a spiritual commitment The Daniel Fast involves a spiritual commitment to God. "Daniel proposed in his heart that he would not defile himself." Daniel 1:8 Ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance! 3. Reflect inner desire by external discipline Most people desire better health, but don't discipline themselves to say no to junk food, and other unhealthy foods. Our physical health is more than answered prayer. Our physical health is normally linked to many of these factors: Your food choices. The level of your spiritual commitment, as reflected in constant prayer during the diet of Daniel and his friends. Your time commitment. If you determine to fast for a certain time, keep it. For example, if you determine to fast ten days, don't stop on day nine. Your testimony commitment. Your fast is a statement of faith in God. You want God to heal your body. Faith is foundational to the Daniel Fast. 4. Pray to see the role of sin in your relative health or sickness Read James 5:13-20 KJV You have freedom in this Daniel Fast to modify it according to your personal physical and spiritual needs. You can modify these guidelines as you feel led by the Lord. If you feel that it would be more productive for you spiritually or physically to avoid certain foods or spices, that would be great. If you feel led by the Lord to eat only vegetables and drink only water, then do so! The main thing is to decide ahead of time how you are going to apply the Daniel Fast. Then stick to your commitment for the length of time you have decided to fast. Some people feel that it is good to make a permanent lifestyle change to the Daniel Fast. Daniel didn't do his "fast" for a limited amount of time. It was his lifestyle. Daniel asked for permission to avoid the kings delicacies over a ten day period. Then, if he was still healthy looking, he could continue his "diet." Daniel's reason for his "diet" are given in Daniel 1:8 The Message Bible "But Daniel determined that he would not defile himself by eating the king's food or drinking his wine, so he asked the head of the palace staff to exempt him from the royal diet." Daniel seemed to eat only things planted for harvest and drank only water. You may want to keep it simple and eat only vegetables and drink only water. If in doubt about a certain kind of food, read the guidelines! Send us your ideas of additional foods to eat, recipes, and menus to add to this page. Whole Grains: brown rice, oats, rolled oats, oatmeal, barley, corn, popcorn, wheat Legumes: dried beans, pinto beans, split peas, lentils, black eyed peas, green beans, green peas, peanuts, etc. Grain legumes include beans, lentils, lupins, peas and peanuts (includes natural peanut butter). Fruits: apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, berries, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, breadfruit, cantaloupe, cherries, coconuts, cranberries, dates, figs, grapefruit, grapes, grenadine, guava, honeydew melons, kiwi, lemons, limes, mangoes, melons, mulberries, nectarines, oats, olives, oranges, papayas, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums, prunes, raisins, raspberries, strawberries, tangelos, tangerines, watermelon, etc. Vegetables: artichokes, asparagus, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chili peppers, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, ginger root, kale, leeks, lettuce, mushrooms, mustard greens, okra, onions, parsley, any peppers, any potatoes, radishes, rutabagas, scallions, spinach, sprouts, squashes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, turnips, watercress, yams, zucchini, etc. Seeds: all nuts, natural peanut butter, natural almond butter, sprouts, ground flax, all whole grain products, etc. Liquids: spring water, distilled water, filtered water, 100% all natural fruit or vegetable juices If you have questions about other foods, check out our Questions and Answers page! Foods to Avoid Basically, you want to avoid the King's food. By application, that means that we are avoiding all those things that the Jews couldn't eat. We're also avoiding foods that only royalty in ancient days could afford. It wasn't until recent history that most Americans could afford to eat meat or poultry. In most of the world today, very few people can afford to eat any kind of meat or processed foods, like the following items to avoid. Send us your ideas of foods to avoid. Meat, because Daniel didn't want to take the chance of eating non-kosher food and/or meat that was offered to idols. white flour and all products using it white rice, white bread, hominy and pasta fried foods foods or drinks with caffeine carbonated beverages, including diet sodas Wine, beer or any other alcoholic drinks foods containing preservatives or additives refined sugar (see some substitutes) high fructose corn syrup chemical sugar substitutes margarine, shortening, animal fat, high fat products Please do not post this copyrighted information in any form at another website. yashabh this Xmas

yashabh this Xmas Hi Guys, I have often wondered about my purpose in life , why some things did not work out well for me , why my decisions or lack of making decisions were stagnating then I read John 15 from verse 1 to the end. And WOW ! The word for today and everyday is ABIDE (a-bid'): Old English word signifying progressively to "await," "remain," "lodge," "sojourn," "dwell," "continue," "endure"; The Hebrew and Greek originals in most frequent use are yashabh, "to dwell"; meno, "to remain." " Before we read this text lets agree on some principles. God is good, his words are so powerful every letter in his book means a whole lot ! There was a time the bible to me was just a medley of words intertwined with spiritual and factual stuff, some made sense and some just did not .I even concluded at a time that the bible quite contradicted itself, mind you I was a Christian then. As time went on I realized this was far from the truth, Lord have mercy . At my firm where I work, when we prepare proposals we attach legal appendages that straitly set out the rules of engagement .how the relationship should work. Man ! those things are complex communities of language, a real BABEL to the unlearned. Only lawyers can decipher that stuff. Always read the fine print they say. Then comes along the bible, the word of God 2 Tim 3:16 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; NASU INSPIRED by GOD ! not your God, cos your understanding of him might be limiting but the GOD, the real mccoy, the real deal. Try to watch Discovery on DSTV and check out any series on deep sea exploration or astronomy and it will scare you to realize that if the God of Jesus really is and sweet cakes !lord have mercy! he is the God that made this whole existence then you better recognize. There are wonderful things down there in the oceans not to talk of out there beyond the Stars, but Jesus is quite clear on something else, eye hath not seen nor ear heard what God has prepared for those that love him.? ?In my father?s house are many mansions if it were not so I would not have told you? Period. statement of truth. This should explain the difficulty of trying to interpreting the Bible by unspiritual Christians seeking for truth , right ? Wrong. Dead wrong. Try this take any legal document with all the mumbo jumbo therein, funny how they mix up king James version language in those things. Herein , hitherto, etc Lets say like your Tenancy agreement of your place of domicile if you own a rented apartment. Get a good dictionary like websters .Translate every word therein into plain English and read over about ten times. Feel like a lawyer yet ? This is what I am discovering about God?s word . What kind of God would write a manual for his product and then make it difficult for them to read and understand it ? Definitely not the same God that says stuff like this (?John 3:16 For God so loved his world that he gave his only dearest Son that whosoever is interested in believing in him will not go to hell forever but will live forever in Heaven with him?). All through that wonderful book is also this continous message. ?abide in me, sojourn in me ,dwell in me, await in me , endure in me, cry in me,marry in me, have a business in me, resign in me , get a job in me ,fall down in me, die in me ,get reborn in me, hang out in me, get high in me, give in me ,exercise in me, pray in me, speak in tongues in me ,do miracles in me ,get confused in me etcetera etcetera . Whatever you do just yashabh! in me.? Pick up your bible by yourself and ask the Holy Spirit , the helper, the comforter the spirit of truth to lead you .Read the text for today John 15 1 to end. Some doubting Thomas may say I don?t think I have the Holy Spirit Luke 11:13 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? KJV Some other guy may say that I have the Holy Spirit but I find myself judging folk , I think I may be becoming hypocritical.I feel I am becoming ?SPIRI? (Nigerian word for Christian geek) and I don?t want to be ?SPIRI? My dear brother or sister.praise God the seeds of revelations are coming to fruition in your life! you are approaching critical mass .Getting ready to form the real VOLTRON. Chrsit Jesus defender of Humanity ! About to explode into JOY unspeakable ! 1 Cor 2:15-16 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. KJV Ask him, that is what he is there for John 16:13-14 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
