If you love real talent, you would love . She acts with extra grace. All you need do is watch her in The Rivals and Sweet Tomorrow, then you are hooked. She recently signed up with the Ope Banwo-led Stingomania to manage her affairs. This 31 year-old French graduate who has been married for 10 years spoke with SAMUEL OLATUNJI on what has kept her marriage and Nollywood. Why did you have to marry so early?I wonder! I just met the right person. You know what it is when you meet someone and you know that this is the man. It’s not that he was my first boyfriend; I just knew that he is the man. Again, I fell in love with the way he loved me. His love was overwhelming and when he proposed, I just said yes. He proposed to me after two weeks actually. I surprised myself by saying yes.Are you sure you did not rush into this? No, I did not rush into it. It’s been almost 10 years now and we have three beautiful children. I think the love is even getting stronger. You have three children and you look this stunning. How do you keep in shape? It’s hard work. I do a bit of dieting and fitness on the side. I know a lot about keeping fit. What kind of exercise do you do and what kind food do you eat?Six weeks after my last child in England, I used to leave my baby and go for one-hour power walk. I would be out there whether it was raining or snowing and in the evening I would go to the gym. And I would not touch cake even if my life depended on it. Even till now I don’t take sugary thing. Why all these hard work?My husband likes me like this.Your husband looks so gentle one would wonder if he is capable of handling you, or I’m I being deceived? No, you are not deceived, but he is also very strong. He knows when to accept something and when not to accept. Generally, he believes in what I do and he knows this is what makes me happy, so he would rather have a happy wife than an unhappy one. This is my life; I’m not going to do anything else.Weren’t you scared that marriage would slow you down?Talent has a lot to do with how you rise. I got into the industry when I was 17 or 18. I didn’t have to sleep with anybody to get there. I did three lead roles in one year. The films are Destined to die, Not my Will, and Campus Tail by Hilda Dokunbo. Since I wasn’t sleeping with them before, I don’t have to start now.How was it like on the set of Figurine by Kunle Afolayan? It was great. It is very different from what I’ve ever done. I’ve never seen the kind of equipment we used. The story is very different; it wasn’t your normal regular Nollywood story. We shot for a month and we all became like one family. We also had lots of cool locations. How was it like leaving your husband behind in Lagos for one month? My husband had to come once and spent about four days with me.When you spend a long time with people outside of your home, do you get to feel something emotional with them? There is no actor in Nollywood that is as tight as my husband. Why would I be tripping for a fellow actor? This is a job, you have to do what you have to do and go. I have friends among them. But that is as far as it goes. I don’t even think about it. Really, no one looks better than my husband. What’s been the most challenging role you’ve played?I think it is Sweet Tomorrow. I had to be in wheel chair. I fell so many times and I had bruises all over me. It wasn’t funny at all.Why is it taking you so long a time to breakthrough despite the fact that lots of people are saying you are so talented?I think everyone has his or her time. But a lot of my movies have not been released. So, you should watch out.How was life at UNIBEN and why didn’t you study Theatre Art?Funny enough, I’ve been acting since I was three. I’ve always loved entertainment and showbiz. I don’t think I have to study Theatre Art to be in the industry. There are so many people who did not study art in school, but they are great actors. I believe I have the talent, which was enough for me.Since global meltdown affected Nollywood, did it affect you?No, Nollywood is not the only thing I do. And for crying out loud, I have a husband that works. What does your husband do?He is an optometrist. That is different from optician. It is an optometrist who checks your eyes and determines whether you need to wear glasses or not.Is that why you are wearing contact lens?I have eye problem.Let’s talk about your deal with Stingomania. Don’t you think you are signing away your freedom?I think this would work because I’m not driven by money. If my management company is taking 20 per cent, I still have 80 per cent. I think that is a lot. The management company is getting me deals and things I couldn’t do on my own. If for instance I’m supposed to do two movies a year, I would probably be doing six with my management company. So, I’m making more money because of them. Stingomania will do a lot of things for me and will get me deals even outside of acting. And as per the freedom issue, the company doesn’t close a deal for you without discussing with you first. If I say I don’t want it, that’s it.So, the marketers will have to speak with your management company now, don’t you think that will get them pissed off? They won’t get pissed off because I’m a humble person. I think the way you present issue to people will determine how they react to it.What is your fan book all about? It is a place where my fans can interact with me directly. It is omoniobolifanbook.com. They can ask me any question on anything and I answer. What has kept your marriage going for 10 years? We just have to keep it fresh all the time and we keep the sex hot. I was ready for marriage and I told myself that once I get married I would stay married. How easy is it to break into Nollywood? It’s not easy, let me not lie about that. Some people are there and don’t want anybody to come up there, I don’t want to mention names. But if you have the talent and persistence, you will get there.Who is the most interesting actor you’ve worked with?I would say Ramsey Nouah because he is fun to work with. He is lively and always looking for what will make people happy. How old are you?I was 31 in April. Are you still going to make more kids? No. I’m done.At 31 you are done with kids, you seem to be doing everything early?I got married at 21 really. Honestly I didn’t think I would be married at 21. I just met the right person. Why wait again if I’ve met the right person? He would probably date me for a couple of years, get frustrated and move on to another person. And then I would have missed the right person. He wanted marriage and I wanted it too. Marriage has matured me. I’ve always been matured. I grew up before my time. His being with a good man has also helped me.Does he complain about your romantic roles? No. There was a scene in Figurine where I had to kiss someone. Everybody is talking about the picture on facebook. But what most people don’t know was that he was actually there when we were shooting the love scene in Osun. Why kiss somebody on set when you could fake it?It’s a job. There is nothing to it. There were about 20 people there, so you can’t really be moved emotionally. It is a job. What should your fans expect from you? They should expect the best. I’ll always give them the best, That is why I don’t do every movie that comes across my way, I chose my script. That is why I can confidently say that if you find me in a movie, it is really good.courtesy odili network

By Seyi Odubanwo and Ekene Okoro, LagosLack of conducive environment for the emergence of credible personalities has been identified as responsible for the seeming lack of quality leadership in the country.Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, said deterioration in the country's value system was to blame for antisocial tendencies among Nigerians in the present dispensation.Fashola, who made the declaration on Thursday, at the re-launch of uniformed voluntary organisations and clubs in Lagos State public schools, at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos, noted that the re-introduction of clubs such as the Boys Scout, Red Cross, Sheriff Guards, and the Girls Guide, was to begin the process of "building leaders from the scratch by using tried but abandoned methods".Fashola, while charging the students of the various associations to be prepared to take up leadership roles in the nearest future, also noted that the quest for a new generation of leaders and those to exercise uncommon leadership quality has become a matter of global concern, adding that the situation has not been helped with the fact that role models, and institutions created by leaders of yesteryears, such as the United Nations in 1945 and the World Bank in 1946, are the only references available for dealing with the global problems."Ironically, across the world, the models that are being studied are leaders before our generation like Winston Churchill, Eisenhower, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Ghandi, Napoleon, Cyrus to mention a few", he said.Fashola also told the students that great Nigerian leaders, both past and present, living and dead, did not become great leaders by taking political office or by attending leadership training institutes, noting that they were leaders in their various professions first."This is the defining element of leadership, responsibility for self, responsibility for others and responsibility to a cause. Mandela, Awolowo, Bola Tinubu were responsible for themselves, so they took responsibility for others and for causes like the fight against apartheid, the enforcement of free education and the enthronement of democracy."This is what we expect from these young faces, who will lead our Police and Army in the not too distant future, people who will be our professors, doctors, teachers and professionals to train others".

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday arrested a 27-year old man, Nweke Chibuzo, suspected to have ingested cocaine worth N13 millionChibuzo who was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos is a 9gerian trader based in Togo. The suspect was nabbed during the screening of KLM passengers to Amsterdam on Thursday last week.According to spokesman of NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the suspect was detained and placed under observation when he tested positive for drug ingestion at the screening point.“As at Monday morning May 18, 2009 he had so far excreted 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.4 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of about N13 million in Lagos . The price of cocaine has witnessed an astronomical rise in the past two months.A kilogramme of cocaine that usually cost 3.5 million now sells between N8 and N10 million. Market forces like demand and supply as well as drug control efforts are some factors that affect prices of illicit drugs’, Ofoyeju said. When interrogated by NDLEA offcials, the suspect was said to have owned up to the crime, saying that he ingested 83 wraps of cocaine in a hotel and that his sponsors promised to pay him 2,500 Euros.Nweke said that the initial amount agreed upon was 3,000 Euros but his inability to swallow the 100 wraps of cocaine given to him made his sponsors to reduce the said amount by 500 Euros.Nweke who hails from Orizor village in Izah North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State said, ìI lost my mother few months after my birth and my father died seven years ago. After completing my primary school, I was unable to further my education due to lack of money. In fact I have sufferedî.Explaining why he indulged in drug trafficking, Nweke disclosed he agreed to traffic in narcotics Nweke when he met a prophet in Togo that told him to perform a befitting burial right for his parents so as to experience peace and prosperity.ìI swallowed 83 wraps of cocaine and they promised to pay me 2,500 Euros. I used to sell cloths and 9gerian films in Togo . The painful aspect is that I sold everything I had to raise 3,000 Euros for the trip. My intention was to search for greener pastures in Europe and do as the prophet directed. It was in the process of looking for somebody to accommodate me in Europe that I met a man that introduced me into cocaine business. I feel very disappointed. I am as good as deadî he lamented.NDLEA said the suspect would soon be charged to court.

PROMINENT Ijaw elders and youth leaders in Warri went into hiding on Monday as soldiers embarked on the arrest of some known Ijaw youths that had links with known militants in the state. The fully armed soldiers were sighted at a five-star hotel in Effurun, in search of known militants in the town and suspected commanders of Government Ekpomukpolo, the leader of the recently destroyed Camp 5 in Oporoza in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state. Former militant leader, Alhaji Mujahideen Dokubo-Asari, narrowly escaped arrest on Sunday at the hotel, where he organised an event, when undercover security agents stormed the place to allegedly effect his arrest. Soldiers continued the bombardment of the riverside communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom in search of the remnants of Ekpomukpolo and his boys in the area in line with the directive by the Presidency to “fish him out, dead or alive.” Monday’s onslaught led to the destruction of Iroko militants’ camp, located close to the former camp 5 in Oporoza at about 6.00 a.m. after a heavy gun batlle between the soldiers and hoodlums. Co-ordinator of Joint Media Campaign Centre, Colonel Rabe Abubakar revealed that fierce resistance by the militants resulted in the gun-duel between the JTF’s troops and the miscreants, adding that this led “ to the killing of a majority of them, even as others fled with gunshot wounds. There was no casualty on JTF’s side.” He disclosed that large quantity of arms and ammunition and other military accessories were recovered from the thick forest areas dump of the camp. Security has been beefed around Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, following text messages being circulated and credited to Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, alleging that he was behind the ordeal of Ijaw. But Izon traditional rulers from the Ijaw communities in the state, in a communique read to journalists in Warri, did not only dissociate the governor from the crisis but also commended him for what they called his relentless effort and display of high sense of responsibility towards ensuring an amicable resolution of the crisis in Gbaramatu Kingdom. While expressing deep shock and dismay at the destruction of life and property, the traditional rulers appealed to President Umaru Yar’Adua to put an end to the continued use of military force in the search for a workable solution to the problems in the waterways. In a related development, there are indications that the ongoing assault on militants in Gbaramatu Kingdom by the troops of the Joint Task Force might be extended to the neighbouring Bayelsa State following security reports that some of the fleeing militants were converging on the state. Security sources told the Nigerian Tribune that intelligence reports indicated that the remnants of militants dislodged from the various camps in Delta State were regrouping in Bayelsa State with the intention of dragging the crisis to the state. “They realised that they have lost all their camps and suspected hideouts in Delta State because of our continued onslaught, so they have decided to regroup in Bayelsa State to further drag us to the area. We are ready for them, anywhere they are, we will get them,” the security source said. Colonel Abubakar, confirmed the development. He said the “ JTF, through its credible source, has confirmed that the remnants from destroyed militants camps, are regrouping in Bayelsa State with the intention of unleashing terror on the innocent citizens in that area.” In another development, the main militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has asked Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to quit his position over the continued bombardment of Ijaw communities by federal troops. This is just as Ijaw National Congress (INC) has condemned the use of force to resolve the crisis in the region, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities. “Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has an opportunity to quit a government that has no iota of respect for him. If the president can snub him after the genocide over his people, then the post of vice-president is not worth it,” MEND spokesman Jomo Gbomo said in a statement issued on Monday. The militants, Gbomo warned, had been ordered to block key waterway channels to oil industry vessels both for the export of crude and gas and importation of refined petroleum products. Meanwhile, Action Congress (AC) chieftain, Prince Tonye Princewill, on Monday tendered his resignation as the Chairman of the Niger Delta sub-committee on the Federal Government’s Vision 2020 Technical Group over the killing and displacement of civilians in the current crisis in the Niger Delta. Princewill said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt that the current fighting was an indictment of leadership of the President Umaru Yar’Adua and showed Presidency’s lack of interest and commitment to the Niger Delta issue. He stated in his letter that military onslaught was not the best option as the Niger Delta Technical Committee, of which he was a member, had made recommendations and suggestions on how to address the Niger Delta problem. Part of his resignation letter reads, “After reading and monitoring of the ongoing carnage perpetrated by the military of the Federal Government and with the obvious connivance of the Presidency against my people in the Niger Delta region and with pronounced lack of interest and commitment towards addressing the Niger Delta issue, I, Prince Tonye TJT Princewill, after due consultation with my family and political associates consider it wise to hereby tender my resignation letter as the Chairman of the Sub Committee on Niger Delta of FG Vision 2020.” Meanwhile, the military high command on Monday told what it called the criminal elements in the Niger Delta that enough was enough and that it would fish them all out and bring them to book. Defence spokesman, Colonel Chris Jemitola, who gave the warning at a media briefing on the current security situation in the Niger Delta, accused the militants of deliberate and repeated unprovoked attacks on Joint Task Force troops, and the sabotage of oil and gas facilities, kidnapping for ransom of people and killing of innocent citizens of the society, including children, clergy men and very old citizens. The Director of Defence Information denied that no communities were razed down as collateral damage was kept to the barest minimum during the operation. Tracing the genesis of the current onslaught against the militants, Jemitola said that last Wednesday members of the JTF “Operation Restore Hope” on routine escort duties around Chanomi creek were ambushed by a militant group leading to the unfortunate and painful loss of some military personnel. According to him, prior to this an NNPC-chartered tanker CM Spirit had been hijacked with its foreign crew and some Nigerians on board. He disclosed that the vessel was run aground by the militants who also stole some of the cargoes while the crew members were tortured leading to the death of some of them and the rest held hostage. The Defence spokesman said that the JTF’s search and rescue team sent to free the hostages was attacked again by the militants, while the search led to the discovery of a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition used for acts of criminality. He noted that at no time were members of the JTF the aggressors, adding, “in fact, the JTF is only allowed the use of force in self defence or where arrest of a criminal is being resisted; extra care is taken to reduce collateral damage to the barest.” Colonel Jemitola said that Nigerians had also seen the kidnapping and harassment of site workers and contractors carrying out socio-economic development of the area. “These are all acts of criminality that cannot be condoned by any government and no responsible military leadership will fold its arms and watch its personnel attacked and killed on official assignment by any criminal gangs hence the military was left with no choice than to go after these criminals in order to bring them to book.”

The police in Lagos have arrested a houseboy, Israel Adewale, for allegedly providing information and facilitating the entrance of criminals who robbed his master and battered his daughter. Adewale, who was rescued from remand home by his boss, Emuze Phillip, with the belief that he could be rehabilitated, was arrested with two other suspects, John Patrick and Dapo Sodiq. It was gathered that three robbery suspects raided Emmanuel Osakwe Street, Egbeda residence of Phillip at 12 midnight on Thursday without breaking any door. The suspects beat the man and his daughter who had just completed her youth service thoroughly and raided every room in the house before making away with valuables that they could find in their victim's Honda Accord marked HU 859 AB. Meanwhile, four young men are currently helping the Ogun State Police Command in uncovering the mystery surrounding two human skulls found in their possession in Ijebu Igbo by the police. The four men, including two herbalists, Tunde Ajenifuja, and Abiodun Adetayo, the police alleged, sponsored Shina Suleiman and Yomi Aregbe to source for the human heads for undisclosed reasons. In a statement in Abeokuta on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, the police claimed that the suspects were nabbed after an informant hinted the police that he had seen some men with human skulls in Oke-Agbo area of the town. He said, "Immediately, the police swung into action and arrested two suspects (Shina Suleiman and Yomi Aregbe). It was revealed that the suspects were sponsored by two herbalists - Tunde Ajenifuja and Abiodun Adetayo - who were subsequently arrested by the police with the human skulls."

Slave Trade Again an ode to Neegeria and the Exiles. Once they came from Afar .And Stole us Away but now they are back and the chains are new. By our Strength they built their cities, Powered their Technology and now they are in our world once more. Emerging Market they call it or emerging slave market .In a world where its babies are killed as soon as they are show cased.Their brains drained faster than a nightmare A world where the liars are the hirers and the good becomes the bad.A world where hope remained a word and babies are fed with the milk of dogs and He screamed 'Alien Nation' where art thine citizens? The Slave Trade has taken them The best once more,The smartest,The fastest,The strongest, Deport the rest Throw them over board .The Seas turn to blood a sight we are seeing once more. This time we goto meet our slave Masters all by ourselves .No hooks no chains Like Sheep led to slaughter. They create their heroes to rule them while they encourage us to hang ours. Can a black man save the earth from drowning Yes o yes but not if the masters started the storm. We bomb our own people so we can fuel theirs .O yes we are good obedient slaves .Yes master. They have amassed great thrones of power while their followers perfect the ways of hypocrisy.Atop their heavenly carriages they travel bequeathing a false truth where it once lived.Even in their hearts, they cry for deliverance for themselves .Perfect ? no one is perfect ! says the Preacher. Howbeit our Saviours never last ? How come Our Afreeca never shows a shining star ? Who is Dividing and Ruling us.Is it like the way it was when they enticed our leaders with gunpowder & schnaps to sell their kith & kin to Strangers ? My son this is no place for strangers, nor for the unwise. The dawn tarries. Wait not for its light .For it has slipped un noticed behind the curtains of self.I I I me me me mine mine mine .For i shall hear no talk of thine nor mine .For my house an auction has become. The fools sit behind and create a forum. My heart grows sad for what is a forum without a moderator ? What is a moderator without a purpose .What is a purspose without a meaning ? Shall we continue to speak great words of talking .Shall the talkness in our lips one day subside ? Will our collective realise our strength . In numbers the ants make a city .In numbers we start logs. CRY CRY CRY ! weep for the Nations now ! The tears of today are for the woes of tomorrow. They come strangley within our breasts they speak of a life that has ceased .Where the help shall rise from is out in the fields . Where the bread will fall from ? will it not be from heaven .Not from the Ovens nor the fields where the corn is ripened and the workers thresh it with their fists. I have seen a great nation stand together to do Evil. Behind one Man they gathered and the world witnessed a terror never seen before. Why does the Nation gladly stand behind the empires as it leads the whole of its Humanity into a deep cavern within .I ask with fear .I see nothing only my brand new shiny chains. Save Save ! Who will save our Nation ? My name is your name and your name is mine, will it l take an eternity to put us back together while the chains of slavery grow shiner still ?.Not again O my country Neegeria Not again O Afreeca we want to truly be free.

On its 8th anniversary, AFRUCA outlines its achievements promoting the rights and welfare of African children in the UK and in Africa AFRUCA – Africans Unite Against Child Abuse was established in May 2001 to campaign against the abuse and exploitation of African children. Since then we have gained recognition as the premier charity working to promote the rights and welfare of African children in the UK. “Many African children in the UK experience a multitude of challenges that affect their ability to flourish and grow. Our main focus has been to ensure we can work successfully with others to address those challenges for the benefit of our children” said Debbie Ariyo, AFRUCA Founder and Executive Director. AFRUCA has played a leadership role in addressing the trafficking of African children to the UK and is known to be very active in this regard. Over the years, our work on child trafficking has imbibed a holistic approach, working with others to highlight the issue, influencing government policy through knowledge gained from working in the community as well as through the provision of direct support to victims. Since 2004, over 50 young people have directly benefitted from our work in this area. With new funding from Comic Relief, we are now able to expand the menu of support and assistance to reach more victims of trafficking in the London area. AFRUCA is deeply concerned about the disproportionate number of African children who are experiencing abuse and harm and who are ending up in Local Authority care across the UK. Most children who are removed from their parents are due to allegations of culture-related child abuse and other practices harmful to children. In tackling this growing problem, AFRUCA has launched an England-wide prevention and early intervention project aiming to help improve the knowledge and understanding of African parents in Child Protection as well as the rules and regulations governing how children are brought up in the UK. With funding from the Big Lottery and the Government Department for Children and Families, this project operates in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool. So far, since June 2007, over 500 parents from a wide range of African backgrounds have benefited from our training programme across London alone. In addition to working with parents to improve their parenting skills, AFRUCA also provides intensive support to families in crisis who are experiencing a breakdown in relationships. This area of work has enabled us to intervene successfully in over 50 families across London and the South East since June 2007. This element of our work has been boosted by our recent success in winning a tender from Thurrock Council in Essex to establish a Service Office offering a menu of support services for Black African families at risk in that area. Aside working with families and within the community, AFRUCA is actively engaging with practitioners to help improve their knowledge and skills so they can intervene successfully when working with African families. In April 2007, we launched a National Training Programme for Practitioners working with African children across the UK by offering a menu of training courses to help broaden their knowledge and skills in intervening in and assessing families. So far over 400 practitioners have taken part in our training programme. Our knowledge and expertise in child protection work with African children is highly valued and respected by agencies and their workers across the country. This is evidenced by the level of demand for AFRUCA’s intervention and expert advice in case assessment. In 2008, AFRUCA was commissioned by Southwark Council to help review its child protection work with Black African families. Our work has helped to highlight key gaps in service provision which is now being addressed by the Council. In recent years, there has been a lot of attention paid to the plight of children and young people accused as witches or as possessed by evil spirits. Many children across the UK suffer untold physical and emotional harm as a result of accusations of witchcraft. In 2007, AFRUCA launched a community consultation to gather views on whether branding children as witches should be a criminal offence. Majority of respondents supported our proposal for the criminalisation of child branding. Through our Safeguarding African Children Network, we continue to work with the relevant community and faith groups and other agencies to address this very important issue. AFRUCA is very proud of our achievements in supporting African children and their families across the country, in helping to keep families together and in helping to support victims of trafficking. As we continue to expand our work across the UK, with a Regional Office in Manchester and a Service Office in Thurrock, Essex, it is our hope that we can continue to make a difference in the lives of African children in the UK and help to address the root causes of the problems they experience. However, it is important to note that our intervention in the past eight years has not been limited to the UK. In partnership with Youth Alive, a children’s charity based in the North of Ghana, AFRUCA is also working to help meet the needs of over 300 street children each year in that country through the provision of access to education, training and health care. In Nigeria, we are working with partners in the East of the country to address the horrific problem of “baby factories”, a fertile ground for child trafficking and exploitation. On the issue of child trafficking itself, we are actively engaging with local groups to conduct advocacy campaigns. In 2004, AFRUCA held a series of awareness raising campaigns as well as an international conference in Lagos, Nigeria to highlight the growing number of Nigerian children trafficked to the UK and the need for urgent intervention. Based on our growing activities across the continent, AFRUCA is now seeking to develop a physical presence in Africa. In celebrating our 8th year of supporting African children and promoting their safety and well-being, we wish to acknowledge the overwhelming goodwill and support we have received over the years from our various partners, including other African community organisations, government local authorities and other agencies, Safeguarding Boards, our funders and sponsors, other charities across the UK and in Africa and most importantly the children, young people and the families that make our work worthwhile. From 22 to 26 June 2009, AFRUCA will hold a series of events in London and Manchester to celebrate its 8th anniversary. Please visit our website at www.afruca.org for further information. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has obtained a court order to freeze the accounts of the companies used for the contracts for which the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Nicholas Ugbane, and nine others are being prosecuted. The order was obtained at the Federal High Court in Abuja through an ex parte application. The EFCC’s lawyer, Chief Godwin Obla, had argued the application while Justice Anwuli Chikere granted the freezing order. Also, an Abuja High Court had on Monday, remanded Ugbane, and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu and eight others at Kuje Prison, Abuja till June 4 when it would rule on their bail applications. The accused are standing trial for allegedly defrauding the Federal Government of N5.2bn.Also taken to Kuje were the Director-General of the Rural Electrification Agency, Samuel Gekpe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Abdulahi Aliyu, Simon Nanle, Lawrence Orekoya, Abdulsalmad Jahun, Kayode Oyedeji, Igwe Paulinus and Jibo Mohammed. All the suspects had filed separate applications for bail which were argued on Monday by their lawyers. The accused had claimed that they were entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence at the trial stage.Having listened to the argument of the parties Justice Adebukonla Banjoko said she had a tight case load and that the earliest date she could rule on the bail applications was June 4.She, however, said that if she was able to write her ruling earlier than June 4, she would communicate unto the parties. Her decision to adjourn the case till to June 4 left all the suspects dejected while their relatives who had come to court hoping that the suspects would be granted bail could not hide their disappointment. The wife of one of the suspects, Jibo Mohammed, who is also the deputy chairman of House Committee on Power, broke down in tears when her husband was being driven to Kuje prison. With her baby in her hand, she wept uncontrollably.Opposing the bail applications, the EFCC’s lawyer, Obla, said that the evidence against the suspects amounted to about 513 pages. He said, “The cheques used in effecting the withdrawals are serially displayed.“Statements of witnesses show the meetings between the accused persons.”He also argued that most of the offences for which the accused were charged were economic and financial crimes, and abuse of office which were species or derivatives of corruption.Obla told the court that there was a high tendency that the accused would tamper with investigations.According to him, the commission is still investigating other offences that have been committed by the suspects and that to release them on bail means that they will stifle further investigation.

War in Niger Delta: MEND threatens northerners in oil industry Careful Mr President MEND may just be what will MEND 9geria for good . This is sadness for a group that so far their activities have been laughable with respect to being called Terrorists or kidnappers. The escalation of this crises by threatning the northeners may spark another Controversial question as to who is pulling the shots .The FG,Shell or a 3rd party . 1.What does MEND Really want ? 2.Why would they sacrifice their lives for this ? (9gerians are not known to sacrifice their lives) 3.Why has this situation continued and exploded into a full scale war ? Their story is one of sadness while we enjoy the scraps that fall off the oil runners .Their Lands and livelihood have been scandalized by oil spillage , lack of jobs and general disregard for their environmental right to land and freedom. No one supports terrorism but no one supports injustice either .Bombing villages in 9geria ? Is that the way forward ? The FG has to come up with a solution that will stop the senseless killing of People who want their voices to be heard .People with rights to land to cultivate their farms and extract fish from their rivers. A people that is cast into despair that the only solution they can come up with is to put their very lives at stake .This shows an embittered people with a troubled psche that has failed to identify with the rest of a Nation.A Nation where democracy and the rule of Law has been replaced with an ambient Dictatorship. Who dares speak agains the Federal governtment. This is a strong Statement to Citizens that Resistance is Futile.Get with the program or die doing so. Yardua as Govenrnor belied a man of letters , a man of peace a man of absolute incorruptions to the tune of billions left in the coffers of the state when he assumed office as President of our nation. I am beginning to understand that this was a smokescreen .He kind of must have looked at it as a savings account .His peaceful mien has been re designed as NO president has carried out bombing attacks on its citizens since the Biafran War.Some one correct me if am wrong. Remember Osama bin Laden He was small FRY until his friends The USA turned him into what he is now . READ ON Umbrella body of the militants in the Niger Delta, Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has sent out a chilling signal, threatening an impending attack on the Federal Government, and particularly, Northerners who occupy prominent positions in the oil industry. "Our message to the Northern Sultans and Emirs is this: The period of exploiting the Niger Delta is coming to an end. It is not the birth right of your people to rule the Federal Republic of Nigeria. "The war is just beginning and by the time it ends, Nigeria will practice true federalism such as fiscal federalism which will benefit the entire populace. Let your people brace themselves to develop their resources and such a bold change will be remembered," Jomo Gbomo, MEND's spokesman said in an electronic mail on Sunday. The threat came a few hours after the Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Budget, Austin Ngor, was kidnapped and moved to an unknown destination. It was not clear what the demands of the kidnappers are, but the governor's Chief Press Secretary, Blessing Wikinaka, has warned them to free the man immediately as there was no just reason for his abduction. Meanwhile, MEND two of the hostages in their custody killed "in the course of the war". It said the remaining one has been relocated to an unnamed camp in Delta State. MEND dared the security outfit, Joint Task Force (JTF), to destroy all its (MEND's) camps, which it said, were spread in many places across Niger Delta region. The MEND's spokesman said, "The British hostage, Mr Matthew Maguire, has been relocated to Delta State and will be a guest of one of the camps there". He added: "Nigerians should now brace up for the worst from the decisions of an incompetent leadership. "The Niger Delta people who have endured injustice and genocide for over 50 years must be ready to fight for change as our destiny should not be in the hands of others but ourselves. The group said it was embarrassed at the "performance of the Nigerian Armed Forces who performed like poorly trained amateurs by bombing indiscriminately into civilian communities using helicopter gunships and fighter jet planes. "Civilians should have been allowed to leave the area before the attack. This simply has shown that the government is insensitive to the Niger Delta people. "If the Army's mission was to also rescue the hostages, then that again was a botched and ridiculous attempt because the hostages were not at any immediate risk except for their temporary freedom. "We regret to announce that two hostages have been killed by the indiscriminate shelling and two more are still in our custody. "We are happy that all of them were not killed by the Army. The bodies of the dead men will be handed over to the Red Cross. MEND deeply regrets the avoidable deaths". It denied claims that the Army captured a plane from one of its camps. "If my memory serves me right, the plane in question is a toy remote controlled plane which can be purchased from any toy shop. It is rather shameful that they cannot distinguish the difference between a toy plane and a drone. "As promised, we have begun nibbling again at the oil infrastructure. Already, two major trunk pipe and gas lines, which were recently repaired, have been blown up. This is just the tip of the series of attacks we plan to carry out. "For the Nigerian government to declare victory, troops must be able to secure every inch of pipelines and eliminate the over 500 camps stretching from Ondo to Akwa Ibom. "What the government has been successful in doing is committing genocide against the Ijaw communities whose offence, it seems, is discovering oil in their backyards," the group said.

sex strike among Kenyan women

Will a week-long, sex strike among Kenyan women forestall bloodshed in the East African country? Following Liberia's example, Kenya's Women's Development Organization has called for women to go on sex strike in protest of government unrest, hoping to forestall the bloodshed that wracked the country after last year's elections. Recently bickering has threatened the fragile coalition that formed only after 1,000 people were killed in power struggles. A statement, quoted by the AP, declares, "The women of this country will not ... allow its political leadership to lead it back onto a slippery journey to ... violence and absolute chaos." They hope the week-long strike will result in talks between warring factions. Says WDO's chairwoman, "We have looked at all issues which can bring people to talk and we have seen that sex is the answer...It does not know tribe, it does not have a (political) party and it happens in the lowest households." Adds Patricia Nyaundi, executive director of the Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida), to VOA, "Great decisions are made during pillow talk, so we are asking the two ladies at that intimate moment to ask their husbands: 'Darling can you do something for Kenya?'" Eleven women's groups are participating in the strike, which adds up to several thousand women. The group says they are paying prostitutes to strike, too. The movement got a boost when the Prime Minister's wife, Ida Odinga, joined the strike yesterday, saying, according to UPI, "If some women have decided, we have all decided." Not shockingly, in a country in which polygamy is still legal, the strike's meeting with resistance. According to the BBC, "Our correspondent says some would argue that Kenyan men cannot even abstain for two days. Kenyan legislator David Musila told VOA, It is a shame. It is a shame that these women can make such a statement. First of all, in my view, it is un-African, and these are some of the things in Africa we don't talk openly about, sex in front of children, and so on. And therefore, I think they are misguided and in any case, who is going to supervise and see that the boycott is implemented? It is just rubbish." The morality argument is not limited to men; says the vice chairwoman of Maendeleo ya Wanawake, Rahab Muiu "As the largest women's organization in the country, we strongly believe in family values and cannot be associated with such foul utterances which can only break families," We imagine plenty of feminists could find the strike problematic for very different reasons. What's one thing in Lysistrata is quite another in 2009 - but then, so is polygamy and disenfranchisement. As Anna put it to me, "If it works, well, that's good. But it makes me sad for mankind - with an emphasis on man."

The Meaning of a Nigerian Drivers License

This Question came about to be at a Truckfest seminar at Peterborough in the united kingdom . We were at the seminar when a question was asked on the comparison of state or federal accepted documents for driving ie permits , License from participating countries ie Uk , USA, Japan , Netherlands, Germany etc.It dawned me me when different school of thoughts were raising issues on driving techniques, hazard perception and so on , I paused and pondered asking myself what the criteria was for obtaining a Nigerian Drivers License.I read on some government initiatives on transport but the main question still remains what is the meaning of a Nigerian Drivers' license?

how to make money a simple indepth approach or should I say the mugus guide to for mugus book on how to make money ! This is a string of articles looking at the different ways to make money ! I have broken them into 5 different categories 1.Luck 2.Talent 3.Services 4.Goods 5.Criminal Money money must be funny in the rich mans world ! Money makes the world go round ! It drives business or should I say IT drives money ! or Fifty Cent Get rich or die trying ! LUCK Lets start with Luck or using some popular phrases like Favor (o boy na favor o ), chance (give me a chance) ,circumstances (beyond your control ),destiny (This was his destiny ),fate , fortune, hazard, portion ("that is not my portion" used by a lot of Pentecostal Christians) Basic Wikipedia definition Luck refers to that which happens to a person beyond that person's control. This view incorporates phenomena that are chance happenings, a person's place of birth for example, but where there is no uncertainty involved, or where the uncertainty is irrelevant. Within this framework one can differentiate between three different types of luck: Constitutional luck, that is, luck with factors that cannot be changed. Place of birth and genetic constitution are typical examples. Circumstantial luck - with factors that are haphazardly brought on. Accidents and epidemics are typical examples. Ignorance luck, that is, luck with factors one does not know about. Luck as a fallacy Another view holds that "luck is probability taken personally." A rationalist approach to luck includes the application of the rules of probability, and an avoidance of unscientific beliefs. The rationalist feels the belief in luck is a result of poor reasoning or wishful thinking. To a rationalist, a believer in luck commits the "post hoc, ergo propter hoc" logical fallacy, which argues that because two events are connected sequentially, they are connected causally as well: This is the most critical money making concept as all the others actually depend on it at one time or the other You can classify luck into one million things but fact is it is just still ends up as PLAIN LUCK ! just like the Christian Bible puts it unmerited Credit or Debit as the case may be ! Now the good news first or the Bad news ? BAD LUCK ! Now lets start with Bad Luck ! or Hex or Evil eye or cursed or Remote control or Dem swear for am ! This is the one we are mostly scared of . This one is the no go area and people actually make money from preventing it .It is big busines ! From pastors and imams in our churches(many Nigerian churches I no go name names ! ) (we pay tithes to avoid it ok for those that pay ) ,mosques to astrologers to Shamans (shams) to Olumba Olumbas, Scientology(mr tom cruise)Nation of islam (Malcom X,Micheal /JermaineJackson) , Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Even Oprah Winfrey and all the other so called talk show hosts ! The FBI,CIA ,Red Cross, Doctors,Lawyers, insurance people ! Plumbers too ! The government ! etc All of them are in business because they try to assure us that they can prevent Bad Luck from happening to us ! This article itself is also supposed to teach you how to avoid bad Luck . So in essence bad luck is not such a bad thing as it actually puts food on the table for most people . A lot of People have actually made millions from selling their bad luck stories ! So dont be scared of it as like the old Hymn says “Give me that old time Bad luck Give me that old time bad luck Because it is good enough for me !” ok I know it was old time religion but heh try to understand na. Ok how do I avoid this type of luck ? 1. First embrace bad luck make it your friend .look for loopholes in bad luck .A friend of mine said ok I know I am not lucky but I am going to be so good at not being lucky that I will make people to pay me on learning about bad luck ! imagine that ! 2. Bad luck in itself is not Bad it just gets bad press that is it .Ok imagine 50 thousand lawyers killed in tsunami , o yes ! Bad luck for them but Good luck for the remaining lawyers ! So Bad Luck gets bad press lets try to give it good press ! 3 .Every decision you make might bring bad luck so always look at your decisions and be ready to accept them as bad luck .Risk managers call it the risk factor .If it is high or low always realize that it can always turn out real sour . Relationships are about the riskiest things on earth and cost billions of dollars to repair but most people jump in and out of them at will ! 4.The fear of yahooze is the beginning of wisdom ! 419ers actually create bad luck .If it is too good to be true then it is too good to be true ! Nobody is perfect so that means no business deal can be perfect too ! 5.Learn to do a risk analysis at every chance you get .Even those that say they have the keys ot wisdom and can foresee bad luck a million miles away .If it is all about the benjamins and the other dead presidents or the nnamdi azikiwes and the very alive presidents .In short Bad luck always walks around with money It is the saying money is the root of all evil in reverse .Bad luck is the root of all evil . 6. It took all the kings men plus horses and maybe dogs to put humpty dumpty together again .Why ? Because the bloody fool knowing fully well he had a big head still went and sat on the WALL ! Ok you know your BLQ (Bad luck quotient) is not good yet you play the lottery every day ! And lose every day ! who to blame ? We go like to know ! O I fell in love ! Runggbish jo wich kain talk be dat ! Your history of girlfriends shows you date hotties ! and you want to get married ! hotties are hot bcos guys follow them ! so you are still unmarried at 50 and you dey complain.Like wise hotties ! hot girls like hot boys but hot boys like other hotties ! Robbers kill Christ Embassy pastor, newly married couple ...Pastor’s fiancée goes into coma, hospitalized Mr. Chris Ipigbhe, a sub-pastor at one of the Christ Embassy’s satellite parish, Baruwa, at Ipaja area of Lagos, had just attended an evening service that fateful Wednesday , where he personally mounted the pulpit to preach. He never had the premonition that it was going to be his last sermon, as he was later shot dead by some dare-devil robbers shortly after. The robbers also allegedly killed no fewer than four persons, including a newly wedded couple. Daily Sun gathered that the substantive pastor was said to be away and had asked the sub-pastor to take charge. The up-coming pastor did just that and was said to be seeing off one of the church members, an elderly woman, as it was already dark, when they ran into some armed robbers, who were operating in the same compound where the woman he was seeing off lives. “She begged the robbers, who were holding sway at the gate, not to harm the pastor. She told them he was his son and that they were coming back from the church” our source said. The pastor was said to have been ordered to lie face-down while the female member was asked to raise her two hands to the sky. Unfortunately for the pastor, some of the robbers who were operating upstairs were said to have come downstairs with their loot when they saw the pastor and the woman “serving their punishment” and appeared not to be satisfied. One of the bandits, allegedly shot the pastor ripping open his stomach and his intestines gushing out. After shooting their victims, the robbers allegedly operated from room to room, carting away money and other valuables belonging to the residents of the two-storey building. The rattled woman was said to have screamed for help until her co-tenants, who were also victims of the robbery incident rushed out to help her to take the pastor to a nearby hospital. Two residents, Francis Alumhe and James Igbape narrated how the victim was referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), adding that he later gave up the ghost. Alumhe, who claimed to be the deceased’s bosom friend said the pastor, visited him in his office earlier in the day, adding that they were together till 2 pm that fateful day. The pastor’s fiancée, who was said to have travelled to Abuja, came back the same day her husband to-be was brutally killed by the robbers. Daily Sun gathered that when she arrived at the Airport, she made several phone calls to the pastor, unknown to her that he was in a coma as result of the gunshot. The lady, who arrived in the house to be told that the pastor was shot right in her house, as he was seeing her mother off, also became unconscious and was taken to the hospital. She was at the hospital, receiving treatment when Daily Sun visited. Meanwhile, police operatives at Ipaja were said to be investigating the tragic incident and have vowed to fish out the bandits and to bring them to book. The bodies of the victims were said to have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy as investigations continue.

Noah's Story Noah is one of the millions of HIV-positive children worldwide, but his story is one of a kind. In June of 2008, Noah had no idea his life was about to change. Leigh Blake, who, with Alicia Keys, co-founded Keep A Child Alive (KCA), one of the most influential HIV/AIDS fundraising organizations, had traveled to Kigali,Rwanda to visit one of the many clinics KCA supports. After her work was done at the clinic, Leigh paid visits to a few patients' homes, one of which turned out to be Noah's. At the time Noah was surviving on one bowl of porridge a day. But despite his emaciated frame, Leigh saw something vibrant in his eyes so she asked him what his biggest dream in life was. "I want to record an album of my music," he told her. Leigh, a veteran of the music industry, was intrigued and asked if he would perform. Here he was in the slums of Kigali dreaming such an enormous dream," Leigh recalls. "He was someone with so little access to popular culture, really almost none at all. But as soon as he started rapping, I saw he had it- the talent and the intensity to be a star- and I knew I had to find a way make his dream come true." Noah first became interested in rap music when he was 8-years-old and heard a classmate rapping in French. He remembers asking himself why he couldn't do it too and decided to teach himself. While he didn't have a radio, CD player or any other way to access or record his music, he says he kept the music in his head, thinking about it constantly. At that first meeting, Leigh invited Noah to perform at Keep A Child Alive's Annual Fundraiser, The Black Ball in New York City, an a-list gala, and he accepted enthusiastically, though probably didn't believe her. Leigh kept her word and three months later he was on his way. When Noah arrived in the US, he went straight to producer Swizz Beatz's recording studio where he had his first taste of recording. Then, he met Alicia Keys, KCA's co-founder, and one of Noah's favorite artists. "Here I was in America, where anything is possible," he recalls. Finally, Noah performed his rap "Brothers" at the Black Ball. The audience, including Alicia Keys, Bono, Padma Lakshmi, Tyra Banks, Queen Latifah erupted. "The whole thing was like a dream," Noah remembers.Perhaps most importantly, American Idol's creator, Simon Fuller, was also at the Black Ball and was so impressed by Noah that he dedicated himself to making his dream come true. Noah returned to Rwanda, bringing back an iPod and other gifts that he shared with his friends. Most importantly, he brought back hope to a place where it is desperately needed. "My Grandmother wants me to live in America now but says never to forget about her, and to send money back," he says. Today through his music and his appearance on American Idol, Noah has the power to transform not only his life and the lives of his family, but the futures of millions of people with HIV. Thanks to the life-saving medication and care provided by KCA with the support of American Idol's audience, he can prove that HIV is not a death sentence for the millions of children infected by the disease, and that dreams really do come true.Watch this important video to see how you can help Keep A Child Alive. Denise is a 6 year old who does not in anyway look like a typical girl of her age. She seems to have lost almost 2 years in physical stature taking after her diminutive mum. Nature has generously compensated her with the power in her tongue. Her mouth is sharper than a two edged sword. She can talk and even over-talk to make one wonder if it is a blessing or otherwise. She is the second daughter of Michel, our Cameroonian friend and Nicole, his wife who is an Ivorian. We used to live in the same neighbourhood before we moved to our current location. After a long time of only telephone conversations between the two families and no see, we were able to arrange a dinner in our house on a Saturday evening. While the dinner was being served, I switched on the television in the dinning to watch the AIT international news. Michel is from the Bamileke tribe in the English speaking part of Cameroon so I was sure he would enjoy watching an Africa news channel in English. No sooner the TV was switched on that Denise quizzed in Italian language “chi è questo uomo?” Meaning who is this man? I pretended I didn’t hear her but she pressed further pointing to the TV asking “why does he look like this? He looks sick……..” I could see that her father was a little bit embarrassed about the utterances of his daughter but the mother seemed to be indifferent even though it was obvious that I wasn’t comfortable with her comments. How could a child talk like this? How could a child be so unkind in her remark towards another being? Do her parents help tame her razor-sharp tongue? A tongue, like a rudder in a ship is a small part controlling a big body, the power of life and death is in it. These are some of the questions running riot in my head. I began to wonder if they ever taught their daughter what our children call African education. Do they plan to send her to a finishing school later in life? We have taught our children never to make any nasty comments about anybody. They are to respect elders and call elderly Africans ‘uncles’ or ‘aunts’ in a country where everybody is called by his or her first name regardless of the age or status. We have taught them how to comport inside and outside home; and even to do some household work. Does it mean some African parents don’t bother about all the social and moral values in our African informal education? Our African education also includes what the scripture intends when it says “spare the rod and spoil the child”The little girl almost spoilt my evening until my wife helped me come back to my senses and then I realised that Denise was just saying the truth in her innocence. Absolute truth! Nothing but the truth! Truth can be truly bitter. She must have a discerning spirit. So how could a little girl spot a sick person within a few seconds? So a girl this young can quickly know what 140 million good people of our great Nation are being told is not real. No! No! No! Flesh and blood have not revealed this to her.How come madam doesn’t know that Oga is sick or is she pretending? How come she doesn’t know we see the same thing she sees, the same thing Oga sees in the mirror. We see the fading and skeletal figure. It is not inhuman to be sick rather it’s inhuman to deny this fact. We all know he is sick. Hardly can a day go by without my family praying that God will strengthen him to complete his term so that he can have enough time to attend to his health. Even though he is not desirable at Aso rock, we pray that he will live long enough to see our own Obama and a nation of our dreams. A nation the founding fathers had in mind when the fought for independence. A nation where the law will rule, not his hypocritical rule of law. An egalitarian society where the people in government will also know the difference between private and government funds. A nation we will all be proud to call ours.Just while we continued in our fervent prayer and occasional fasting for his survival, stories started to filter out of a second term. Second ‘wetin’? It can’t believe this. No it can’t be true. It’s surely a forbidden fruit that must not be eaten. So Shakespeare was right when he said that “there is no art to find the mind construction on the face”In an Obasanjo’s style of third-term leak, people started reading the scripts out loud and clear. Chief Tony Anenih and the FCT Minister, Alhaji Muhammadu Adamu Aliero were the first persons to disclose this. As I was still contending with the sanity of both men, then Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Kwara State governor also confirmed this while speaking on behalf of all PDP governors…… It can never be true. All the PDP governors can not lose their minds simultaneously. Was it another April fool? No. What could have motivated him and even them? I know cancer do spread, has it got to the faculty? Can the devils who deceived Obasanjo to go for a third shot be at work again? Or the sprites of the Abacha era? Or is it the innocently looking ‘uninnocent’ Madam? They cannot mean it. We cannot take it. “You can fool some people sometimes but you cannot fool all the people all the time” – apology to Bob Marley. After taking more than his fair share of the booty and contributing more than most of his corrupt old politicians in dragging Nigeria down, common sense would have expected Chief Anenih to fade off from the scene but his greed seems to be insatiable. Has he squandered the tens of billions of Naira he made during Obasanjo’s era as the Minister of Work, PDP’s BOT Chairman and as ‘Mr. Fix it’ or he just wanted a few more billions acting as a ‘fix it’ consultant. If not psychosis, how could someone who owns more than 100 houses in Abuja alone still be interested in filching public fund. God is watching and we will all have to account to Him someday. A wise man of his age should be factoring eternity in his thoughts.Nothing better could have been expected from Alhaji Adamu Aliero who in spite of his infamous past as a governor in Kebbi State was still made the FCT Minister only for arranging his successor in Kebbi State House, Governor Saidu Usman Nasamu Dakin Gari to take Zainab a first daughter as a third wife. If this is your own way of saying thank you, you have really taken it too far. How can you recommend a slumbering head to a nation that is fast awake? Foul!Governor Bukola Saraki is the son of the the Senate Majority leader in the second republic Olusola Saraki. This medical doctor turned banker and ultimately politician will for ever be remembered as the Damaging Director of Societe General bank in Nigeria for single-handedly running dry the bank while he was the CEO and his father was the Chairman. Our memory is not shallow. As a good people, we only have a big heart to forgive and give a second chance otherwise, you would have been lynched for the pains you caused depositors and investor of SGB. Now you want to replicate what you did to the bank to the entire nation. How can a knowledgeable human being claim that the Oga needs 2 years to study the problem of this country and 6 years to act. The statement confirms what is believed in some quarters that our political office aspirant should go for psychiatric evaluation. Any one who needs 2 years to study a problem, will certainly need eternity to solve it. How many years will be required to study the problems of China or India . Obama knew what he wanted to do and started doing it from the first day of his presidency.A First lady’s love of power is not peculiar to Turai but I think she is taking it to another level. Since her husband’s disability is gradually turning to inability, she is craftily trying to be in charge and turn Umaru to the nations ‘First gentleman’. Nigerians (rather Obasanjo and Iwu) did not vote Turai to Aso Rock but Umaru. Common sense would have suggested that a loving wife in your shoes would have advised the husband to stand down on the account of ill health. Your action has brought back the memory of ‘Mamangida’ who believed it was more glorious to be a late president than a former president. What difference does it make if someone dies as a former president or a sitting president? If you are motivated by your search for more gubernatorial suitors for your other daughters, you still have about 2 years to put your acts together. Nigerians are tired of reading about your illegal deals and financial escapades littering the pages of our online news sites. You can be more honourable!Mr. President, if truly you have thought about a second term, it must have been at best, a poor decision, bad judgment and gross insensitivity from your side. My advice is that it is good you seek help when you can, get yourself some attention while you can and get some treatments which you can as only the wise see danger around the corner and take appropriate action. A word is enough for the wise! Nigeria is no North Korea where an obviously dying Kim II-Sung was nominated for another term. We have many capable and able people to lead us to the promised land. We can not wait to see you leave Aso Rock Villa. It is our prayer that you would be the last old order politician to stay in the Villa. We desperately need a break and a change. We can make it! Yes we can!! Yes we will!!!The only Constance in life is change. People can change. Was the President not the seemingly meek Governor of Katsina? May be the fear of Obasanjo and Nuhu Ribadu was the beginning of his meekness and wisdom then. Was he not the reluctant presidential candidate? How come he doesn’t want to leave even in spite of all odds against him? Was he not the one who left about 6 billion Naira in the coffer of his state while his colleagues left billions in debt or did he just lack idea of what to do with government’s money? At least he could have built a world-class hospital in Katsina to take care of his ailment to save Nigeria the cost and foreign exchange to fly him to Germany and Saudi Arabia .What have you done in your almost two years free-for-all corruption plagued government? What have we gained from our patience? What dividend of democracy have you delivered? Nothing! You embrace the corrupt and run after the corruption fighters. You befriend Ibori, Odili, Turaki, Lucky, Kalu etc and chase Nuhu Ribadu. Is that your way of fighting corruption?Your allies say you need 2 years to study the problems. Which problems? National or personal problems? Nigeria has no other problems than to fight corruption, generate electricity, provide good roads and other infrastructures, provide quality education, heathcare………….. and most of all rebrand you politicians and other public office holders. You have 2 more years to prove sceptics wrong and let them know that slow and steady win the race. Please don’t renege on your promise of 6000 KW by the end of the year.God Bless Nigeria !Nigeria Go Better!

A first time visitor to Lagos cannot but be overwhelmed or lose sight of the new air of physical developmental initiatives pervading this megalopolis. Entering through northern tip of Ogun state, the weather begins to shine brighter as soon as you see the sign: "welcome to Lagos." From there, you begin to see signs of massive road expansion; from there you begin to notice the deliberate beautification exercise that has begun to give the city an alluring face-lift. From there you begin to see LAMATA men and women with broom, constantly sprucing up Lagos.

From there you begin to notice sweat-immersed faces of LASTMA men and women on duty - directing and controlling traffic. From there you begin to see that a deliberate attention has begun to be paid to the road median hitherto neglected. This, I guess is the beautification aspect of it. Road medians that had hitherto been overrun by dirt have now been cleared. In their former places have emerged a conscious and concerted tree and flower-planting program. The beauty of it all is that as it is on the island, so it is on every part of the mainland.

If you are a seasoned skeptic, you will say to yourself, "Let's wait and see." Yes, wait and see until you take your time to get into Isale-Eko or Shibiri area of Lagos - to notice that this wonder boy of Lagos developmental initiative - Babatunde Fashola - is serious. That he is not fluke and that he is dead serious in conducting an even-handed development initiative for the people of Lagos State.

Population wise, reports after reports have ranked Lagos as one of the world's fastest growing cities. Official Nigeria national census figure says that Lagos is around about 8 million people. The Lagos State government says it is not true - that the population of Lagos should be in the neighborhood of 17 million people.

Although the United Nations' figure says something different in between, there can, no doubt be, that Lagos' population is stratospherically increasing even as we write. With burgeoning population (8 per cent as against conventional 2 per cent annual growth), come natural attendant developmental needs to match the numbers in this unique population growth. Regrettably, over the years, however, what successive administrations have done to Lagos could at best be described as a mere scratch on the city's monumental infrastructural developmental problems. In the area of infrastructural development, Lagos did not get it. The result is that over an accumulated time, the city-state became one of the world's dirtiest industrial cities.

Under heavy infrastructural collapse or the lack of it, social service delivery in the state suffered untold neglect. Dirt overwhelmed everywhere; the environment was polluted, leading to environmental enhanced diseases amongst its inhabitants. Urban transportation became and is still a residents' nightmare as traffic congestion, mob rule by the ill trained private transport owners seized Lagos. Communication was a nightmare as housing and urban development retarded in the face of increasing population.

However, from available numbers in the books and empirical observable evidence, it looks like Lagos is changing. If you have lived in Lagos or has visited this past ten years or less, you must then be my soul mate as we stand up to acknowledge the tremendous changes that are taking place. We must stand up to applaud the man who has single handedly been instrumental to the monumental infrastructural changes that have occurred and continues to occur in Lagos even as we write.

The face behind this massive infrastructural rebirth of Lagos is no other than Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. His mission is encapsulated in the slogan: Eko oni baje - Lagos will not go under. Although, the self-effacing Governor - the architect behind this and his technicians seldom reminds people that there is a human face to the rapid changes taking place, in Lagos, it is important that he knows that some people are taking note, at least from the sidelines.

This brings me to the second segment of the caption of my essay - The New Face of Imo. Have you been to Imo State recently? Better still, have you been to Owerri, the Imo State capital recently? If you lived in Owerri or any part of Imo state this past nine years, (and I want you to be candid about this), have you not seen that Owerri, the Imo State capital has experienced and is still experiencing a robust make-over? Nevertheless, if you have not been to Imo of late and you want a sneak preview of what's been up in Imo, the eastern heartland, wait for this.

A huge infrastructural development and regeneration is going in Imo state. And, the man behind this larger than life developmental initiative is Governor Ikedi Ohakim. Infrastructural development and social mobilization of Imo state is akin to that commercial jingle made popular by the telecommunications giant named Glo: Imo is glowing, everywhere you go!

You are welcome to Lagos

Permit me to say that I am at a vantage position to look at what I have seen on the physical developmental grounds of Lagos and Imo dispassionately. I am from Imo. I was raised in Lagos. I now live in the United States, though I have been a frequent visitor these past years. I have seen the two states at the worst and have seen the two at their developmental nadir. I have seen Imo State under Mbakwe and I have seen Imo State under Udenwa. I have seen Lagos under Jakande and I have seen Lagos under Mudashiru. I have seen them all.

Now, if Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and his Imo State counterpart - Governor Ikedi Ohakim were to be Americans, by now either would have been getting ready to be the next president or vice president of the United States. If the two young men were of the same age or from the same ethnic background, one would have been tempted to say that they were a siemens twin, who from the word, go, were raised together and groomed for leadership or that they had a shared secret plan for Nigeria.

In truth, however, the two are separated by biological circumstances, ethnic origins and geographical location in the larger geopolitical land space named Nigeria. For sure, the two look like they are iconoclasts. The two are young and vibrant. Can't you see? The two are awesome. Leading me to reason that if what we are seeing is not a temporary success designed for the political gallery (and we hope not), then Nigeria is in for a good harvest of alternative leadership choices, come next presidential election season. The irony though, is that none of this two performing governors belongs to the ruling party - the Peoples Democratic Party - PDP.

One does not know and may never know what has shaped the individual lives of this all-conquering twosome and or of their relative personal experiences to prepare them for what they are now doing. One may never know what carved this trajectory of "can do spirit" from the twosome. Must confess. What I, as a person know about the twosome, are those I managed to glean from the pages of newspapers, the larger media and of course the internet where you can find their scanty resumes. That Babatunde Fashola is a lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and that Governor Ohakim, his Imo State counterpart, is a finished technocrat, a solid MBA and a PhD candidate could be the clue. But, they are not the first in the country to parade such fine credentials. So we must keep looking for the secret behind their can do spirits' disposition, where others before them faltered or failed.

Could it then be in their age? While Fashola just turned forty-five or is, approaching forty-six, his Imo state counter part just turned fifty and or is approaching fifty-one. It is of significance to note that this is the same age bracket that has produced some of the finest leaders, the developed world has known - Tony Blair, Bill Clinton, JF Kennedy, Barack Obama to name a few. While Fashola presides over a state that by conservative estimate is over 12 million in population and has existed for over forty years, Imo's population is under five million. The state has existed for about thirty years. While Lagos is a megalopolis, you can say with some degree of certainty that Imo is somewhat provincial. No, I meant to say that my state Imo is in the heartland of Eastern Nigeria.

When you look at the two young governors, therefore, what you see is, a promising and dynamic hopeful future, sprawling in front of them, pleading to humanity, that is, the Nigerian political humanity saying, "Please come use us." In certain democracies that I know, the arrangement would by now have gotten to advanced stage where the one that would be president between them would have been determined. The other would still be relevant and or automatically qualifies as the other's vice or at best, be assured, of a very important cabinet position - as Hillary Clinton would soon be.

Let me start with Governor Fashola. Some may argue that this young man inherited a development foundation solidly laid by his predecessor Governor Bola Tinubu whom he was his Chief of Staff. Yes, while it is possible that, that position gave him the privilege of understudying his former boss, it could arguably be inferred that he might in fact have been the brain behind some of the great achievements of his former boss. It is also possible that during the eight unbroken years of the Bola Tinubu administration, a lot of spadework was quietly put in motion, (it now appears), to turn the fortunes of Lagos around. No wonder, Fashola hit a well-prepared ground, running from day one after May 29, 2007.

On May 29 2008 - one year after the governors' assumed office, a national daily, using whatever indices, awarded eleven governors' performance scorecard, above average. In that category, it is significant to note that the same newspaper recognized Ohakim and Fashola as first and second amongst equals. Then recently, Governor Ohakim was in Ghana, to receive yet another award by the West African Students' body. We have seen from experience in Nigeria that awards are the cheapest commodity out there now for anybody. However, we the watching public also know merited and deserved honors when we see them bestowed on deserving Nigerians.

In Lagos, it is something, like a developmental hurricanes sweeping across the land. From Ebute-Ero to Ebute Meta, to Ikorodu. From Victoria Island to Isheri, from Badagry to Kosofe to Lekki, the physical developmental of Lagos is continuous, robust and palpable. The air is abuzz with transformational initiatives. This, I am told has been encapsulated in the Lagos Mega Plan initiative of the Babatunde Fashola administration.

Take the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) initiative of Babatunde R. Fashola (BRF). I do not know where he got the idea, which I pooh-poohed when his agents were "recklessly" marking and destroying parts of the unexpanded roads - of Lagos - from Ikorodu to Lagos Island. Nevertheless, when BRT was launched, it was an instant success. In fact, it worked so well that reports came in that the governments of Ghana and other countries have sent powerful delegation to come and understudy it. I ate my words, which had hitherto, been colored in skepticism.

Conscious of the fact that transportation has been the biggest headache for metropolitan Lagos, the young governor right there hit the bull's eye by targeting that sector as a matter of priority. Now, most parts of Lagos, who have not benefited or are not benefiting from the BRT initiative, are begging the governor and his team to please "come over to Macedonia." With this has brought a collateral developmental fervor. Road construction and reconstruction are going on at the same pace in every part of Lagos. "Recently, the papers reported that the government of Lagos has signed a $220 billion contract to turn the Lagos/Badagry expressway into a 10 lane freeway. Even, the Lagos metro rail project, which had been in the back burner for ages, is now about taking off.

What of Lagos State's health care delivery initiative? This, under Fashola has also received a huge boost. The other day, Governor Fashola himself, visited a government run hospital incognito to assess things for himself. There, according to reports, he had an eye full, which we need not recount here, for lack of space. In Lagos, there are mobile ambulances that serve as mobile/emergency health care centers. I have seen them at Mile 2 and Anthony Oke. I have also seen them somewhere on the Lagos Island. I have only seen this type of health care delivery methods on the streets of the United States and other developed economies of the world. I have also seen meat vendors now transport their wares in semi-refrigerated wagons - all deliberate efforts by the Fashola administration to make the people of the state enjoy dirt-free meat delivery services. This is innovative. Flash your mind way, way back when reckless meat vendors ferried their cargo using the most unsightly methods.

What he is doing in Lagos is similar to what the Franklin D Roosevelt administration did for America with his Public Work Administration initiative of the 1940s. I was so amazed and enthralled when a friend of mine told me that BRF studied at the University of Benin, Nigeria and may not have been directly or indirectly influenced by the policies of FDR and his New Deal policies of his time. With beautiful and appropriate acronyms, which the FDR administration adopted, the BRF administration of Lagos is blazing similar magnificent trail in innovation and programms with beautiful acronyms that will stand the test of time.

Through The Niger Bridge

Tree planting which is the hallmark of any environmentally friendly personality is taking deep roots everywhere you looked at, in Lagos. Road expansion is going on everywhere you looked. Rail transportation development - all part of the multi-modal transportation development of the sate that also include dredging of the Lagos canal for effective water transportation. If you have not been to Lagos, lately, go to Lagos now, to see it yourself. One is only hoping that this frenzied organized developmental initiative would endure. One is only hoping that the zeal is not sabotaged. Is Babatunde Raji Fashola from our corner of the planet? Only time will tell.

A piece of Advice to Fashola: can it be possible that some of the reconstruction and construction works presently being performed during the day be conveniently done at night?

Governor Ikedi Ohakim is even more enigmatic. Whereas, Governor Babatunde Fashola may have inherited a solid foundation on the development of Eko, from a previous administration in which he served as Chief of Staff to the Governor, Governor Ikedi Ohakim is building a new Imo from the scratch - thus - his "New Face of Imo" slogan. Not since De Sam Mbakwe has, Imo witnessed an orchestrated, genuine effort at a blissful rebirth.

According to information derived from the official website of Imo State, the New Face of Imo Agenda is summarized in this feisty philosophy: "aimed at transforming Imo State into a secured, modern model state with strong diversified manufacturing and tourism-based economy, anchored on the emerging skills, and mid-wifed by science and technology with guaranteed employment opportunities."

Visit Owerri, the Imo Stat capital and see work in progress and wonders in motion. This was the Owerri, which in more than twenty-five years, suffered under the putrid stench of neglect and deprivation. This was the Owerri - the capital city of Eastern heartland, which had hitherto, been turned into a refuse dumping city. This Owerri suffered under the weight of humiliating successive mal-administrations.

When Ohakim stepped in, he decided to begin first with, sweeping clean, the dirt-infested city. To this end, he ordered through his (Environmental Agency) the dismantling of all the shacks and illegal structures that dotted the city and state. Thereafter, he banned Okada (motorcycle) drivers from operating in certain parts of the Owerri metropolis. To smoothen the pain on the average Okada rider and user in Owerri, Ohakim introduced a functioning intra-city transport service. To actualize this, he flooded the city with luxury buses - its own version of a BRT. He then followed with affordable taxi-system, which now has spread, to other cities in the East - Port Harcourt and recently, Enugu. Governor Ikedi Ohakim began a road expansion network that has given Owerri, the much-needed breathing space under which other goodies would follow.

Opening up the hinterland - Imo State
Rural parts of Imo we learnt have not been left out under the Ohakim administration development programs. Imo Rural Roads Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) is busy opening up villages with new rural or old roads some of which have been hitherto clogged and or overgrown with weeds. Launching the venture the other day, the able governor said his aim was to bring back the old method where members of the Public Works Department - PWD worked diligently to beautify every nook and cranny of Imo.

Now remember, that unlike Lagos where Fashola was a chief of staff in a government that served two terms, Ohakim started the rebuilding of Owerri from the scratch. He destroyed shacks that dotted the streets of Owerri and thereby restored its diminishing topography. Ohakim sent the notorious timber shed packing and promised that a better edifice would rise from its former place. Not done, within a year of ascending office, Ohakim has opened up road networks in several parts of the state using his environmental sanitation agency as his springboard. Uncoordinated erection of billboards has been banned; old and unauthorized ones have been removed.

Roads into Owerri and roads out of it are being dualised. Education, I learnt has received a shot in the arm as redundant and dead wood teachers have been replaced by well-trained teachers. An Education Development committee has been set up to address and redress the education problems of Imo State.

Now, all this have happened within one year and half of Ohakim's stay in office. At this pace, the developmental initiative of the Ohakim administration would have definitely reached every nook and cranny of the state within the shortest possible period.

The industrialist in Ohakim is seen everywhere as he has within a short period resuscitated industries that had seemed until now moribund. The Standard Shoes Industries Limited is one of such and the, Adapalm, another. It is also on record that the young governor has entered into agreement with such countries as China and Malaysia, for industrial development of Imo State - only in less than eighteen months he got onto the saddle of Imo leadership. What then do we expect when and if Ohakim stayed for full term in office?

So let the battles begin. Let a new Nigeria rise from the vision of these two young and dynamic governors who were groomed, trained and produced by Nigeria. Let us eschew ethnicity, tribe, geo-political balancing and begin to look at them up close if they could be the elusive messiah that would come to rescue Nigeria - the next presidential election time.

(CNN) — Liz Cheney is picking up where her father left off when it comes to taking aim at the Obama administration, saying Tuesday the new commander-in-chief appears to be siding with terrorists. In an interview on Fox News, the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney sharply criticized the new administration for agreeing to release photographs depicting alleged abuses at U.S. prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan during the Bush administration. "I think it is really appalling that the administration is taking this step," she said in the interview. "Clearly what they are doing is releasing images that show American military men and woman in a very negative light." "I have heard from families of service members from families of 9/11 victims this question about when did it become so fashionable for us to side, really, with the terrorists," she continued. "You know, President Obama has a lot of rhetoric about support for American military families, support for our men and women who are fighting for us overseas. But if he really cares about them, then he wouldn't be making such an effort to release photos that show them in a negative light." Late last month, Pentagon officials said the hundreds of photographs released are from more than 60 criminal investigations from 2001 to 2006, and show military personnel allegedly abusing detainees. But the officials rejected allegations by the American Civil Liberties Union that the photos show a systemic pattern of abuse by the military. In her interview Monday, Cheney also echoed recent calls from her father for the Obama administration to release classified documents detailing information yielded from the aggressive interrogation techniques since denounced by the president. "They seem only to be interested in releasing things that really paint American in a negative light and don't give the American people a full picture of what went on," she said.
