Suicide Mission! The family of a Nigerian, who wanted to play James Bond and
perhaps, shock the world with his plan, is currently gnashing its teeth,
as the venture has ended in tragedy.
Saturday Sun reports that a young Nigerian, Mr. Emeka Okechukwu Okeke, recently wanted to do the
impossible by smuggling himself into the United States, but ended up
arriving not only in body bag but also as mangled body.

Impeachable sources at the Murtala Muhammed International, Lagos,
revealed that Okeke had beaten all security at the airport, traced his
way to the tarmac and sneaked into the tyre compartment of a Delta
Airline’s plane scheduled to depart for Atlanta, United States..

It was gathered that the plane had departed Lagos, without Okeke being
detected, and safely arrived Atlanta. Ground staff of the airline, in
the United States, were said to have discovered pieces of flesh and
blood smear on one of the tyres of the plane and raised an alarm.
A check on the plane revealed the mangled body of Okeke in one of the tyre
compartments of the aircraft. The check also revealed a bag and a
mobile phone on what remained of the body of the young man.
Saturday Sun gathered that shocked officials of Delta Airlines, in the
US, had put on the mobile phone and scrolled through the numbers. To
find out the identity of the man, they were said to have called the last
number dialed and made inquiries. The man, who received the call, was
said to have revealed that the owner of the phone had travelled to the
United States.

Delta Airlines officials in the United States had transferred the case to Nigeria, where it was discovered that Okeke, who
is married, had confided in some of his friends and relatives that he
was travelling to the United States on the night he sneaked into the
tyre compartment of the aircraft. His family has been contacted and its
members have identified the corpse of Okeke.

According to our source, Okeke is from Anambra and had tried unsuccessfully for years to
get a visa to America. Owing to desperation, he decided to embark on the
risky venture, which eventually claimed his life. Although, he told his
family that he was travelling to US, he never revealed that he was
going to sneak into the tyre compartment of the aircraft.

According to our source, Okeke colluded with airport officials to gain access to
the tarmac, before finding his way to the plane in the dark. He was said
to have wrapped himself in a blanket, not knowing that the aircraft
tyres would get to where he was and kill him.

Meanwhile, Delta Airline staffers, who guarded the plane at the airport on the day the
incident happened, have been arrested by the police, to explain how
Okeke sneaked into the tyre compartment of the plane.
Saturday Sun gathered that Delta Airline has a security policy, whereby
its plane at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, is guarded
from the time it arrives Nigeria, in the afternoon, till when it departs
with passengers in the night.

With such security arrangement, the airline is, therefore, shocked that somebody could have access to
the plane undetected and embarked on a suicide mission, which has caused
the airline a scandal.
The police at the airport command are currently battling to find out how security was breached at the airport
that day.

An airport official, who pleaded for anonymity, told Saturday Sun, that many people had been smuggled out of the country by
sneaking into aircraft.

The source said: “That route is for people who have guts and all efforts to leave Nigeria have failed. The
man has bad luck; it is not his destiny to leave Nigeria. Maybe he did
not follow the instructions given to him on how to survive under there.
This is not the first time people are sneaking out of Nigeria through
that means. Sometime last year a woman travelled through that means and
arrived safely.
“If this man arrived safely, we would not be talking about this. He was careless with his life. Now innocent staff of the
airline are going to suffer for his mistake. Those who guarded the plane
that night were arrested.”

The racket at the airport
The question being asked by people is, how possible is it that somebody would gain access to the tarmac
undetected, considering the tight security in the airport? Our source
explained that such illegal movement is being coordinated by a syndicate
at the airport, which also works with airlines’ workers.
It was gathered that people who need such services pay as much as N800,000.
They tutored on how to survive in the aircraft compartment. For one, it
was learnt that they are given blankets and winter clothes with which
they would keep warn while the plane is in flight across the Atlantic.
In the country of destination, the illegal immigrants are received by
agents in the syndicate, who smuggle them into the country.

Our source blamed the level of corruption at the airport on poor working
condition, alleging that some of staff are paid N30, 000 monthly.

“In this present day, how can one survive with such an amount of money? We
have to survive; that is why there can never be a cure for the level of
corruption at the airport. There is nothing like absolute security; the
people at the helm of affairs smuggle things into the plane also,
despite their fat allowance,” an airport worker said.
When contacted, officials of Delta airlines refused to comment. However, a
policeman at the airport command confirmed the incident and said
investigation was going on.

Passengers on Dana Air's 9am Abuja bound flight from Lagos on Monday escaped a crash after one of the engines of their aircraft witnessed bird strikes some minutes after takeoff..

The aircraft which took off from the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 (MMA2), Lagos with 97 passengers onboard, had to effect an emergency landing at the international wing of the airport when sparks resulting into smoke emanated from its affected engine.

"Some minutes after we took off from the airport, the captain announced that there was a bird strike and it has affected one of the engines," said Adeleke Babatunde, a passenger onboard the flight.

The situation, which made some residents of Mafoluku, a community close to the airport, run out of their houses in order to avoid casualties, was meticulously controlled by the aircraft pilot who landed the flight 9J 995 plane some minutes after the incident.

"We saw the plane shaking as large smoke came out of its engines and we had to run out for safety," said a resident who gave her name as Uchechi.

Commenting on the incident, Jacky Hathiramani, chief operating officer for Dana Air in a statement admitted that the aircraft suffered bird strike, adding that the captain had to make an emergency landing in line with the airline's safety and service policy.

"All 97 passengers and crew disembarked the aircraft safely, and the aircraft was taken to the hanger," he said. "Most of the passengers were booked on alternative Dana Air flights to Abuja while a few who preferred a refund were given." Mr. Hathiramani, however, thanked passengers onboard the aircraft for their cooperation, as well the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and all airport authorities for their responsiveness and support.

Bird strikes or Bird Aircraft Strike Hazards (BASH) are collisions between airborne animals and man-made vehicles or aircraft.

The Dim witted Speaker of the house OlaDIMeji Bankole has been pegged for impeachment. Finally the particular youth we are all sure IBB was referring to as not been able rule this country has been "marked for death"

The group seeking to oust Alhaji Dimeji Bankole as Speaker of the House of Representatives said it is now shopping for an acceptable successor for the Speaker.

A member of the Nigeria First Forum (NFF) opposed to the Speaker hinted that the group has decided to soft-pedal on a motion for Bankole’s ouster Tuesday, as they have not reached a consensus on his replacement.

However, the embattled Speaker is said to have been sending text messages to members of the House allegedly pleading with them to drop the moves against him..

The plot to impeach Bankole is said to be part of the strategies by the NFF, which is loyal to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to strengthen their hold on the government and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group which has accused the Speaker of not giving the House a purposeful leadership is also not happy with him for working against Jonathan’s confirmation as Acting President.

Sources close to the group hinted that though some members have not been happy with the Speaker, the present move is out of anger over the plans by the Speaker to reconstitute the leadership of the standing committees of the House apparently to deal with the anti-Jonathan group.

Bankole is being accused of mismanaging the capital budget of the House and allegedly inflating figures for purchases in the House to his personal advantage.

The Speaker is also being accused of influencing the activities of the 36 member ad hoc committee earlier set up to monitor the spending of the funds of the House when the allegation of mismanagement of funds first came to the House.

Another member of the NFF alleged that the Speaker has been interfering with the activities of the committee and had suppressed the presentation of an interim report of the panel which may have implicated him.

Insisting that the House desires a purposeful leadership, the NFF member said Bankole’s leadership have been found wanting and must be replaced.

Charly Boy Oputa, the maverick musician, should watch his involvement in double-dealing otherwise his rating would soon drop drastically. The other day Charly Boy wasVerdana; font-size: 10pt;"">

involved in the demonstration that involved Pastor Tunde Bakare for a good cause which sought an end to the hide-and-seek game that has to do with ailing President Yar’Adua. At other time he led demonstration to the National Assembly, nonetheless for about the same good cause though Bakare’s group said that he was not representing them at this later siege at the National Assembly.

And yet in another but ‘unworthy’ cause, Charly Boy was seen at the National Assembly complex again with some youth group seeking the reappointment of INEC Prof Maurice Iwu whose tenure ends soon.

Further on another unworthy cause, the New Star newspaper of April 5-6, 2010, page 16 under the story “Ibori confers with Uduaghan (his cousin) over recent political development” Charly boy with his power bike was sighted with James Ibori at the Asaba Government House, probably as in company of the former governor for the infamous confer.

Charles Oputa who will be 62 this year though still adopts the name Charly Boy; son of the respected retired judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Oputa, should be careful to avoid wasting his family’s good reputation as he hobnobs and fights for causes that are considered unworthy.

The leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is poised for a shake up as three candidates are currently being screened as possible replacement for the agency’s current chairman, Farida Waziri,

According to Presidency sources who spoke to NEXT over the weekend, of the three names, John Amodu and Tunde Ogunshakin are two of the candidates who have been screened by the SSS..

“Typically, what they try to look for include scandals, court charges and so on,” a source said, describing the clearance process.

The candidates

Mr. Ogunshakin worked as the director of operations of the EFCC under Mrs. Waziri until May, 2009 when he was redeployed by his boss. While some reports claim that he was removed from the commission because of an examinations malpractice scandal, other reports claim that Mr. Ogunshakin, who had worked under the former EFCC boss, Nuhu Ribadu, did not get along well with his new boss.

He is generally regarded as a seasoned investigator.

The second candidate, Mr. Amodu, works with the Nigerian Police as a Deputy Inspector-General (Operations). The details of the third candidate were yet to be revealed at press time.

It is believed that the assessment of the candidates’ records has been concluded and the reports forwarded to the presidency.

EFCC response

Meanwhile, the EFCC has dismissed all claims of an imminent change of leadership in the commission.

“I’m certain that nobody is doing that. Whoever is saying that is carrying out a campaign of calumny aimed at distracting the commission,” Femi Babafemi, spokesman of the commission, said.

The reports of the leadership change are coming amidst other reports that the EFCC might be dropping its case against the former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa. Those reports indicate that the commission has instructed its lawyers to withdraw the 47-count charge brought against the opposition politician.

Mr. Bafarawa was dramatically arrested by the commission in December last year during a meeting of opposition politicians in Abuja and has since been charged to court for financial misappropriation to the tune of N15billion naira.

“Plans are afoot to withdraw the case following the intervention of the NSA, Gusau,” a source said to NEXT.

Mr. Babafemi however denied the reports.

“It is 100 percent falsehood. There is no iota of truth in it. How can you say that such a celebrated case that involves stolen funds of about 15 billion will be squashed just like that?” he asked, adding that the EFCC legal team in charge of the case was in court over the case on Thursday, April 15.

New improved EFCC

The EFCC has, in the past few weeks, come under a lot of media criticism. And, in that period, there has been an increase in the number of high profile cases being pushed by the EFCC, which many claim is a reflection of its chairman’s bid to be seen as productive in the light of the changing structure in the Presidency.

A Lagos-based human rights attorney, Jiti Ogunye, who spoke with NEXT, said that the EFCC has not been pro-active in the corruption fight but has rather taken advantage of various happenings across the country to assert itself.

He cited the bank frauds of 2009 and the recent emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as examples.

“We see the unusual hyper activity of the EFCC in the last three weeks of the ascendancy of Goodluck Jonathan to power as a calculated ploy to give the impression that the EFCC leadership is competent, credible and that the anti-corruption war is safe in its hands,” he said. “The problem we have with this hyperactivity is that it can never be sustained. We would say that it is a grand ruse because if we want the anti-corruption war to be meaningfully waged, episodic grandstanding and playing to the gallery ought to be shunned.”

Other media reports have also showcased harsh words about the moral stance of the current leadership of the commission as well as the agency’s organisational structure.

Jonathan’s verdict

While it is unclear whether the reports have been investigated by the executive arm of government, the recent screening of candidates may be an indication that the reports have not gone unnoticed.

Whereas the EFCC insists that it is carrying on a vigorous fight against corruption, the Presidency does not appear to be in agreement. Last week, while in the US, the acting president, Mr. Jonathan, expressed his dissatisfaction with the current fight against corruption in the country and promised to look into the current structure of the EFCC.

“It appears that EFCC is not aggressive enough these days and people have asked me to look into that organisation and I shall look into that organisation,” Mr. Jonathan said during a breakfast meeting at the Centre for Global Development, CGD, Washington D.C., last Wednesday.

The Tayo Aderinokun led Guaranty Trust Bank, no doubt, is one of the leading banks in Nigeria that provides unalloyed services to their customers in all the nations they are sited but controversies seem not leaving its tail. If information at our disposal about one of their marketing executives is anything to go by then the bank does not have the ability or wherewithal to guarantee the safety of their customers’ money.

As the ugly tale goes, Titilope Owolabi is one of the beautiful but versatile ladies who are highly resourceful at the Lekki Branch, Lagos office of the bank, sometime ago, we gathered, some customers which include Uvie Edegbior and Benjamin Akporuarho were defrauded to the tuned of over N5million respectively with the claim that she was going to fix it for them having signed necessary ‘forged’ documents but the money was diverted into her ‘prepared’ account with the her bank. PHOTO: MD GTBANK Tayo Aderinokun
The cookies, however, crumbled when the two customers were hinted by another staff of the bank about how their names were conspicuously missing from the list of those who have fixed account with them and the cat was let out of the bag. When the management of the bank, GTB got wind of the fraudulent acts of one of their staffers, we were reliably informed that, they moved into action and were shocked to uncover other ugly deeds of the 29 year-old Titilope who has been arranged to face the wrath of law at the Ebutte Metta Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos

Titilope, we also gathered, at different points in time, defrauded her bank of ATM money which runs into several millions of naira without the knowledge of the self-acclaimed highly technologically inclined bank in Africa. We shall bring the detail of the ATM scam in our subsequent postings.

While further investigation is still on-going to determine the damage Titilope has cost them, the chairman of the bank, Owelle G.P.O. Chikelu, we were informed, has summoned other board members to get to the root of the matter and bring all the characters involved in the fraudulent saga to book.

The big question on the lips of everybody is how safe is customers’ money when a common marketer could swindled their customers that much without the bank having a first-hand knowledge of the fraud? Only Tayo Aderiokun, their MD/CEO can tell!

Alhaji Aliko Dangote has taken delivery of his new Bombadier Global Express XRS. The Aircraft would the third in his fleet. The aircraft landed the Nigerian airspace from Canada yesterday (The same say that the billionaire marked his 53rd Birthday in Lagos).
In this year's Forbes Richest Billionaires in the world, Dangote, a Nigerian from the northern city of Kano was also listed.

we gather that the 8 seater jet is worth about 7 billion Naira. The journey from Canada to Nigeria was said to have taken about 9 hours.

"The Global Express XRS is an improved version of the original aircraft, offering higher cruise speed, increased range, improved cabin layout and lighting. It is reported that the letters have no significance, but were chosen by focus groups simply to improve the brand image.

The range increase is achieved by addition of a 1,486 lb (674 kg) fuel tank at the wing root. The Global Express XRS entered service in early 2006. The unit price is estimated to be $45.5 million (US). Bombardier claims it takes 15 minutes less to fuel the XRS than the original model thanks to improved computer systems and mechanical refinements"

Dangote is a commodity merchant and financial back up of the ruling Peoples Democratc Party (PDP) in Nigeria. He is also the Chairman of Dangote Group of Companies and his investments are in cement, sugar, oil, banking, properties and other areas.

Some reports have been circulating about Dangote's top billionaire status as Business Mogul Mike Adenuga was claimed to have laughed on his Forbes listing as Naija's richest man and Dangote was once accused of plotting

EXILE OF ADENUGA BECAUSE OF ENVY
The problem that the billionaire Chairman of Globacom, Otunba Mike Adenuga had with former President Olusegun Obasanjo was masterminded by Alhaji Aliko Dangote. And the cause was mere envy of the ever rising status of the silent but meticulous multi- billionaire, Mike Adenuga.

It all started when Adenuga acquired the old National Oil which he transformed to Conoil.

Chemical Ali as he is known went to town claiming that Adenuga used funds from Bureau of Public Enterprise.

Same thing reared its ugly head when Adenuga acquired the second National Carrier Licence which enabled him to join the world mega business of telecommunication. He smeared the names of Adenuga and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar. He claimed that Atiku who oversaw the then Petroleum Trust Fund helped pay for the licence from the Fund's cover.

This was the final straw that brokes the camels back of camaraderie between Atiku and his former boss Obasanjo.

These incidents made the guru as Adenuga is fondly called to go on voluntary exile.

Adenuga's sins according to Dangote's gospel is due to his unapproachability. He claimed that the guru was too arrogant, taciturn and always elusive to the extent that 'Adenuga could not be asked for favours like using his private jet because his own jet, a rickety 14 year old NS 125 old cargo which he bought from the Federal Government always breakdown constantly without notice and also because Adenuga is richer than him.

The hatred for Adenuga got worse few years ago during one of the editions of Nduka Obaigbena's This Day Awards. In that year's edition of the award despite the fact that the Globacom boss was not present physically as against Aliko who was there live, Adenuga was the cynosure of all eyes as his representatives were busy collecting awards after another on his behalf whilst Dangote with all his pride and ego was just there looking at the glory of Adenuga without a single award .Since then the attempt to ruin Adenuga started because he didn't want anybody to surpass him. To further humiliate Adenuga after he had succeeded in setting EFCC after him, “Chemical Ali” was always dramatising how Adenuga was behaving when he was to be arrested by EFCC operatives and during this time

one will always see him holding white handkerchief and waving it at the EFCC operatives which
signals peace as Adenuga was said to be pleading THEN.

.

As for Mike Adenuga's group. He owns a series of oil exploration and marketing companies that include Conoil, which he bought from the government and lead on an incredible turnaround from a hopelessly sick company to the pearl of the oil marketing industry. The value of Conoil stock increased 15-fold in the first year of the takeover. He is also the owner of Mega-telecoms giant Globacom. He has signed deals to procure network infrastructure worth $10billion. That is almost as big as AT&T and clearly bigger than any other African network. He bought 2 Boeing 747 aircraft with the sole aim of moving infrastructure straight from the Siemens, Alcatel and SonyErickson plants in Europe to the cities in Nigeria where the infrastructure is needed (cutting shipping time, and all those delays). He delivered the first 2.5G network in Africa. As Second-National Operator, he took the competition to the other firms and led to the introduction of per-second billing that Nigerians had been yearning for. When Nitel, the First-National Operator tried to block Globacom from using the brand new ocean fibre optic cable that was intended to route most of Africa's telecoms traffic to the outside world, Globacom dared to dream big and built their own fibre-optic ring around West Africa to steal market from the first ring that was constructed by National carriers across the continent.

Mike Adenuga also owns two banks in the country. It's a pity we don't know exactly how much he's worth, but he's definitely a multi-billionaire in all world currencies. He's majority shareholder in many huge companies. He recently was said to have flown in Beyonce for his daughters Carnival Wedding .
What do you think

is It chemical Ali or The Guru ?
I vote the Guru Mike Adenuga

Lagos State House of Assembly today set up a 7-man committee to investigate allegations of financial misappropriations and scams leveled against Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) by a group operating under the aegis of The True Face of Lagos.

The new move has been perceived by a pro-Fashola group, Lovers of Raji Fashola (LORAF) as commencement of impeachment proceedings against Fashola, though Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. .Adeyemi Ikuforiji denied that the committee was set up to impeach the governor.

During deliberations, Ikuforiji said the resolution to probe the allegations "have been published in our Journal as procedurally required."

According to him, it is important for the Assembly to do what is constitutionally right for the benefit of taxpayers and to also absolve our government of any allegation.

Ikuforiji read the names of the members of the 7-man committee comprising Hon. Ajibayo Adeyeye (from Kosofe); Hon. Sanai Agunbiade (Ikorodu); Hon. Rotimi Olowo (Somolu); Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Edet (Oshodi-Isolo); Hon. Funmilayo Tejuosho (Mushin); Hon. Babatunde Adejare (Agege); and Hon. Saka Dayo Fafunmi (Ifako Ijaiye).

The House gave the committee a two-week timeframe, which commences from the day it was constituted to complete its investigation. However, the venue where committee would be sitting was not revealed.

But Ikuforiji strongly advised the committee to invite all individuals and corporate bodies connected with the allegations so there can be thoroughness.

The speaker said the committee should investigate with the fear of God in mind and the love of Lagosians in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

The House had constantly denied an impeachment move, but the pro-Fashola groups claimed that the motive was not only meant to probe Fashola, but to impeach the governor.

The House had formally constituted set up a 5-man committee to investigate Fashola, but a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikorodu restrained it due to the fact that there was no formal petition and that the resolution to investigate the allegations was not published in the official proceedings of the Assembly.

But the petition was formally brought to the Assembly March 30 and consequently deliberated upon, the outcome of which culminated in a resolution to investigate all allegations of financial misappropriations and scams preferred against Fashola and some of his allies.

In line with an order of Justice Hakeem Abiru of the Lagos High Court, the Assembly published the resolution in its official proceedings for Thursday, April15, 2010 in line with procedural provision.

Speaking on the new move to probe Fashola, coordinator of Lovers of Raji Fashola (LORAF), a foremost pro-Fashola group, Mr. Abiodun Olugbenro said a fortnight can never be enough to thoroughly investigate the allegations.

According to Olugbenro, the House is not a neutral party and therefore should not investigate allegations that also implicated its members. It is a kangaroo probe; they are only interested in impeaching Fashola.

The pro-Fashola group therefore sought the intervention of a neutral body, like the economic and financial crimes commission (EFCC), to be invited to handle the probe.

The House however depended on Section 128, paragraph 1 and 2 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, which empowers the House to investigate allegations of corruption brought against the executive arm.

Ibori Sues EFCC for N10bn

•No restraining order against former governor, says anti-graft agency
By Yemi Adebowale in Lagos and Victor Efeizomor in Asaba, 04.17.2010

The former governor of Delta State, James Ibori has filed a law suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State, asking for N10 billion in damages, for alleged “libel, unlawful harassment and twisted falsehood” by the anti-graft agency.

Ibori, in his suit, is also seeking an order restraining the EFCC from further publishing or causing to be published, any libellous publication against him.

This is just as the EFCC yesterday debunked reports that Justice I.N. Buba of the Asaba High Court had issued an order restraining the anti-graft agency from arresting Ibori.

Also yesterday, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Okonta, along with his principal officials condemned EFCC for declaring Ibori wanted.
The EFCC had on Tuesday declared Ibori wanted for failing to honour its invitation over allegations of fraud being investigated by the agency.

In response, Ibori said he was not on the run and that the Asaba High Court had restrained the commission and its officers from arresting him pending the determination of the substantive motion on notice.

However, the EFCC in its statement yesterday said the alleged court injunction restraining it from arresting Ibori was a fraud.
The EFCC said it had made enquiries from the judge and the court to know whether such order was given and that the response it got was that “no such order was issued by either the judge or the court.”

The statement signed by Femi Babafemi, the commission’s spokesman stated further: “The court only directed the applicants to put the commission on notice while it refused to grant any interim injunction as sought.
“Besides, up till now, no one has served the EFCC any court order; if it is true that one was granted.”

The anti-graft agency urged members of the public to disregard reports on the said restraining order, “as it does not exist.”
Based on this, the EFCC asked Ibori to “come out of hiding and honour the commission’s invitation.”
But the Delta State House of Assembly speaker said EFCC’s action against Ibori “is unacceptable, against the principles of fair hearing and a gross violation of the doctrine of the rule of law.”

Okonta, at a press briefing in Asaba said: “I must confess that an institution like EFCC must comply with the rule of law. This is an obvious violation of the rule of law.
“You are all aware that Ibori was invited to appear on April 17. Today is April 16 and he has already been declared wanted. Is that fair?

“We are condemning the action of EFCC for not following due process and the rule of law.
“We are not saying EFCC should not do its job. What we are saying is for them to comply with due process.
“If you invite an individual to appear before you for an interview, you must allow the time to expire before declaring him wanted.

This obvious violation of laid dawn rules is unacceptable to us.”
Okonta also lambasted Chief Edwin Clark, an Ijaw leader, for allegedly “creating acrimony within the state.”
He added: “The action of E.K. Clark is not only unbearable but unfortunate. That at his age, he is still busy destroying a house (state) he should be helping to build.”

Meanwhile, in his statement of claim in the N10 billion suit filed on April 15 against the EFCC, Ibori averred that the EFCC on April 13, 2010, distributed offensive publications to various electronic and print media houses with wide readership and viewing audience covering Nigeria and overseas.

He also averred that the EFCC posted the offensive publication on the Internet and distributed to websites, thereby libelling him.
He claimed that on the same morning of the 13th of April, various television stations, including but not limited to Channels Television, immediately commenced repeated broadcast of the defamatory words contained in the press release issued and distributed by the defendant declaring the plaintiff a wanted person.

He argued that the broadcast was viewed by members of the public including numerous prominent citizens of Delta State, members of the plaintiff’s family and community, his political associates and by persons within and outside Nigeria.
Ibori in the statement of claim stated that he was immediately inundated with telephone calls and visits from persons who viewed the broadcast of the press release and visited to find out why the plaintiff was on the run from the defendant’s officers who were allegedly looking for him.

He averred that he was not on the run and it was false that the alleged ‘letters of invitation’ referred to in the defendant’s offensive publication were sent to the plaintiff before he was declared a wanted person.

Ibori held that he had previously been investigated and arraigned for a 170-count charge, which was quashed via the ruling delivered by the Federal High Court, Asaba on 17th December 2009.
Continuing the former governor claimed that at 16.20 hours in the evening of the 13th of April, and about 8 hours after the defendant declared the plaintiff a wanted person, one Mike Anibogu, an official of the defendant delivered a letter dated 22nd March, 2010 at the plaintiff’s residence in Lagos requesting the plaintiff to come to its office in Abuja for an interview on 17th April, 2010, which is four clear days from the date on which the defendant declared that the plaintiff was a wanted person it was looking for.,

He stated that the next day being the 14th of April, the offensive words published and distributed to the media by the defendant was carried as headline news by several newspapers including but not limited to Vanguard, The Punch, THISDAY and The Guardian.

“The false, malicious and reckless words published by the defendant referred directly to the plaintiff and the words in their ordinary meaning are very clear and understood to mean that the plaintiff is a fugitive from the law.

“The defendant’s publication lowered the plaintiff in the public estimation,” claimed Ibori
Ibori claimed the EFCC exposed him to public odium, ridicule, disdain, hatred and lowered his integrity in the estimation of right-thinking members of the society.

He claimed his family and social life, business and political career have been adversely affected by EFCC’s publication.
He therefore asked the court for a declaration that the EFCC publication dated 13th April, 2010 headlined: “Why We Are Looking For Ibori – EFCC” was predicated on twisted falsehood, is libelous, and defamatory of the plaintiff.
He is also asking for N10 billion as damages for the libel published by the EFCC.

Sectarian tension is rising in Bauchi State following the murder of a pastor and his wife as Christians call for revenge, residents and officials said. The couple were allegedly abducted and killed by some Muslims in Boto village in Bauchi State, they said.

The burnt bodies of the pentecostal pastor, Ishaya Kadah, and his wife, Selina, were discovered on Thursday by the police in the village, located in the predominantly Christian Tafawa Balewa district, two days after they were kidnapped, they added.

"It is quite tense here since the burnt corpses of pastor Ishaya and his wife were discovered yesterday (Thursday), with his flock calling for revenge. We don't know what is going to happen," Boto resident Bitrus Kagama said.
"The pastor and his wife were found missing and their bodies later discovered in the bush," Kagama said.

"We received a report on Tuesday that a pastor and his wife were missing and a search team discovered the bodies two days later", Bauchi State police commissioner Danlami Yar'Adua told AFP on phone from the state capital, Bauchi.
"We have arrested two suspects and we are still looking for four other suspects in connection with the murder. We are on top of the situation," Yar'Adua said.

Tafawa Balewa, which has a history of Christian-Muslim violence, is on the border with Plateau State, which has been rocked by sectarian violence in the last six years that has left hundreds dead.
Boto is home to more than 100 Muslims displaced by the sectarian violence in Jos, capital of Plateau State, in January which the police said left 326 dead..

Everyone I know wants to change and grow. I believe that’s part of being made in the image of God. The Lord created within every one of us an intuitive knowledge that we were destined for more than we’re experiencing. Both believers and unbelievers desire to achieve more, including those who have experienced great “success” in the eyes of the world.

However, for those who are born again, the desire actually intensifies. The Holy Spirit will give us a holy dissatisfaction that drives us toward change. Once we realize that Almighty God lives in us and wants to express Himself through us, it’s hard, if not impossible, to be content with how we allow Him to do so.

Jesus was the only one who gave the world a perfect look at God living through a man. We will never be the expressed image of God in the way Jesus was, but we all have the potential to express Him in a much greater way than we have ever realized. But, in order to do that, we must change.

Growth always means change. So, if you’re not experiencing any growth in your life, it may be because you aren’t changing. Have you ever seen a plant that’s green and growing and not in a constant state of change? For the plant, it’s effortless; it just grows, and the change is evident to everyone. Our lives should be just like that—green, growing, changing, and evident to the world.

The question is, how do we do it? If you’re like a lot of Christians, you have probably tried to change many times but find yourself falling back into the same old patterns and experiencing the same old problems. That’s frustrating, and more importantly, it’s a breeding ground for many of Satan’s most devastating lies and traps.

If we aren’t careful, we as Christians can feel more like failures than the lost. After all, we have been told to be like Jesus, and that’s a big task.,

Change really began for me when I had a glorious encounter with the Lord. I had seen a glimpse of how awesome the Lord was and what He wanted me to be. I started changing rapidly, but was a million miles from the victorious life He had revealed. At times, the process seemed so long and the goal so far that I despaired of ever making any progress in this lifetime.

Kneeling beside my bed, one day , I began to pray, “Lord, what do I have to do? How can I ever be like you?” I opened my eyes, and as I saw my Bible lying on the bed in front of me, I heard the Lord say this in my heart: “Just put My Word in you, and it will do all the rest.” That Word from God has been my prime directive for the last thirty-seven years, and it has produced miraculous results. And the change this has produced has been nearly effortless. The only effort has been to stay focused on God’s Word.

Although the Lord spoke that to me in prayer, it was important to see it in the Word. He revealed and confirmed it to me through a parable in Mark 4:26-29. It says,

And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.”

In this parable, Jesus used an example of seed, time, and harvest, which everyone understood, to illustrate truths about how God’s Word works, which very few understood.

First, He taught that God’s Word has to be planted like a seed in our hearts. Just as a seed doesn’t release its life until it is planted in the ground, God’s Word will not set us free until we get it in our hearts. Having a Bible on our table, in our hand, or in our head is not sufficient; we have to commit God’s Word to our hearts.

Second, the man in Jesus’ parable, who sowed the seed, slept and rose day after day. It takes time for a seed to germinate. You can’t plant a seed one day and expect to see it growing the next day. Just because there’s nothing visible above ground doesn’t mean the seed is not growing. And if you dig it up every day to see if anything is happening, it will never grow. You have to have faith that the seed will do what it was designed by God to do, producing its fruit in its time.

The Word of God works the same way. When we meditate in God’s Word for one day, we can’t expect to see results the next day. And we can’t meditate in His Word one day and then live differently the other six days. That’s like digging up the seed.

John 15:7-8 says this,

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Next, Jesus shared one of the most important truths of this parable. He said, “The seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.” This is an amazing statement. No one knows how a seed works.

Man, with all his understanding, has not unlocked the miracle of a seed. We can make things that look like a seed, taste like a seed, and have the exact chemical elements as a seed. But if you plant it, it still won’t grow. For thousands of years, people have planted seeds and reaped the harvest without understanding how it all works.

I don’t understand how the seed of God’s Word planted in our hearts works either. And, I can’t explain how reading God’s Word differs from reading the words of some other book. I don’t comprehend it all, but I know it works. I’ve experienced the supernatural life that God’s Word imparts.

The Word is a seed that contains the very life of God. When it’s planted in our hearts and left there, it will release that life. The only effort on your part is to take the time and make the effort to plant the seed. Then, the godly change you’re looking for comes effortlessly as the seed of His Word takes root in your heart.

This is such a simple truth that most people have missed it. Many are looking for some spectacular encounter with the Lord that will transform their lives instantly. They want to microwave their miracle rather than allow the time for the seed to produce fruit.

Some are even willing to spend hours in prayer asking for a miracle instead of planting the Word of God in their hearts, which in time would produce the miracle. Prayer is what water and fertilizer are to a seed. They help the Word release its life. But if you haven’t planted the seed, it doesn’t matter how much water and fertilize you apply, the soil still won’t produce fruit. It’s the seed that has life!

Prayer is not a substitute for planting the seed of God’s Word in your heart. Prayer without the Word is religious at best and complaining at its worst.

Romans 12:2 gives us another key to effortless change.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

The English word “transformed” was translated from the Greek word “metamorphoo,” from which we derive the English word “metamorphosis.” It’s describing the miraculous change of a worm to a butterfly. If we want to be changed in nature and appearance as drastically as a worm becoming a butterfly, the way we do it is by the renewing of our minds. God’s Word is the primary way of accomplishing that.

In the natural, we recognize that we can’t have a harvest without planting seeds. But in the spiritual, Christians try it all the time. Instead of going to the Word and meditating in the Scriptures themselves, they run to someone who has spent time in the Word and ask them for help. It’s an attempt to shortcut the process of seed, time, and harvest.

Then, if they don’t see results, they get confused and offended. God can meet needs through the faith of others, but it’s temporary and His secondary way of touching us. God’s best is to take the seed of His Word and plant it in our hearts where it will naturally and effortlessly produce the changes that we desire.

Have you ever seen an apple tree groan and travail to produce apples? Never! It’s the nature of an apple tree to bring forth its fruit. It’s your nature to produce fruit as well, spiritual fruit, and it happens naturally.

We do have a part to play, however. God has never planted a seed or tended the field for anyone. That’s the natural part that we must do. It’s up to us to consistently plant His Word in our hearts, abide in that Word, and then water and nourish it with prayer. If we’ll make that small effort, the miracle of the life in the seed of God’s Word will do the rest. Our lives will naturally and effortlessly change.

The Christian life is really not hard; it is actually easy if we are abiding in God’s Word. The Word will transform us so that God’s perfect will for us comes to pass. That’s the promise of God’s Word. Roman 8:6 says,

“To be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

Being spiritually minded is being Word minded (John 6:63). God’s Word is the seed. Our hearts are the soil. And the godly change is the fruit that we all long for.

This teaching is absolutely fundamental to your entire Christian walk. The lack of knowledge in this area is the reason so many Christians remain frustrated in their walk with the Lord. They have been stuck in the same spiritual condition for years and can’t understand why.

Just as there isn’t growth in the natural realm without planting seeds, there isn’t spiritual growth without planting God’s Word in your heart.

Iceland Volcano END OF THE WORLD ?

Technically probably not the end of the world, but who knows? Thousands dead from earthquakes in China again, and now a volcano too? After extensive research on the topic of volcanoes, I have come to the conclusion that we need Tommy Lee Jones to come save us. Ok, maybe not us, as we aren’t in England anymore, and technically no one is in eminent danger, but it is mucking up travel all over Europe. I guess if we were still over there, we would be traveling by bus this weekend.

Thousands have been stranded at airports for several days now, and we thought we had it bad with our flight into Europe and the Swine Flu fun. Apparently there is no real end in sight to and the last time that Eyjafjallajökull (that’s a mouthful) erupted it lasted for two whole years.

Not really sure where I am going with this post, but I guess I should sign off with a personal note to our friends over in England facing the worst delays and our friends everywhere else (if this truly is the end):

Dear Guys,

If this is the end of the world, it was nice knowing you. Please enjoy your last few days on this earth in spite of the rain of hellfire and ash. I will see you in the afterlife. I plan on spending my final days with my wife and family, surviving off of rations of cheesecake and beer.

I am too lazy to really enjoy the inevitable looting, but to those of you who chose to partake, happy hunting! I have seen bumper stickers that tell me you can’t take it with you, but I am not sure I believe that, so stock up now. St. Peter may let you cut in line if he gets to watch your freshly stolen blu-rays on your freshly stolen big screen tv up there in heaven.

Meanwhile, a radar image of the volcanic crater appears to show a nightmarish face, which is reminscent
of Edvard Munch's painting 'The Scream.' Coincidentally, it is thought
that the masterpiece was inspired by the blood red skies caused by the
powerful volcanic eruption of Krakatoa in 1883.

In his diary Mr Munch wrote: 'I was walking along a path with two friends - the sun was setting -
suddenly the sky turned blood red - I paused, feeling exhausted, and
leaned on the fence - there was blood and tongues of fire above the
blue-black fjord and the city - my friends walked on, and I stood there
trembling with anxiety - and I sensed an infinite scream passing
through nature.'

The picture was taken by the ELTA radar from an Icelandic Coast Guard airplane.

If it isn’t the end of the world, well, whatever. I guess I will see ya when I see ya.

Inter Milan defender Maicon spectacularly broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 75th minute of Friday's Derby d'Italia against Juventus with a
superb display of juggling that he turned into a perfect volley out of .
the reach of Juve goalkeeper Gigi Buffon. A man up following Momo
Sissoko's red card in the 37th minute, Inter sealed the victory that put
them back atop Serie A with a second goal from Samuel Eto'o in stoppage
time, sending Juventus fans already demanding a refund on their season tickets into a
slightly deeper depression.

After the match, Eto'o was quick to echo the immediate praise for his teammate's display, saying, "I think
Maicon scored the best goal of the season so far." And it's easy to
agree.

Whether it wins that arbitrary superlative or not, it was certainly enough to conjure comparisons to Maicon's fellow Brazilian and
Milan rival Ronaldinho and remind us all ahead of the World Cup why the
Samba Kings are so dangerous. Even their defenders can do that.

Arsène Wenger warns Cesc Fábregas off 'unwatchable' Spanish league
• La Liga is in 'complete disarray', says Wenger
• Only Arsenal among top three are 'on the up', he says

Arsène Wenger has claimed that Arsenal are the only one of the big four on the rise and he showed his determination to retain his best players this summer by declaring that Cesc Fábregas would be misguided to move to Barcelona because the "unwatchable" Spanish league "is in complete disarray".

Arsenal's campaign seems set to conclude, for the fifth year in a row, without a trophy but Wenger maintained that his methods have been vindicated and that, given injuries to key players, the season has been successful, although he also said that Wednesday's defeat in the north London derby left his team with "only hope, not a realistic view" of overtaking the leaders, Chelsea.

"The other night [after defeat by Tottenham] I went home and thought I was stupid because I was hugely disappointed," said Wenger. "But I think overall you try to bring a team as high as they can and this year I have a done a good job [given] what happened to us. Playing in the top three, with all the competition around us, you cannot say the policy hasn't paid off. Yes, you cannot parade in the street with a trophy but you cannot say that what we have done and the way we have achieved it hasn't paid off."

Wenger suggested that, with Manchester United and Liverpool constrained by debt, only a further instance of what he calls "financial doping" can keep Chelsea ahead of Arsenal next season. "We are the most on the up," he said. "The only difference is that tomorrow Abramovich can go out and buy 10 players because he has the financial potential. If Chelsea were run like every other club, he couldn't do it. That's the difference. On the curve we are going up, that is for sure, and they are going down; that is sure as well because they have six or seven players over 30. But Abramovich can just say, 'Today I will buy seven 24-year-old players.'" Asked whether Manchester City were also "on the up", Wenger replied: "They are on a serious cheque book."

Wenger acknowledged that Arsenal are likely to open their own cheque book this summer, admitting the club needs to reinforce its defence. "I don't deny that," said Wenger, "and you could see that again on Wednesday night. It was a game we had to win but we couldn't win, so we're not there but on the other hand we're not far. It is difficult to see whether we need to buy because we were without Gallas, Fábregas, Van Persie and Arshavin. But we need to add something defensively because I believe in the big games we were too vulnerable."

Wenger is keen to persuade William Gallas to sign a new contract when his deal expires in the summer but he refused to countenance breaking the club's rigid wage structure. "We'll always keep our policy," he said. "We manage within our resources."

The player Wenger would be most loth to lose this summer would be the team's chief conductor, Fábregas. This week the 22-year-old has again been linked with a return to Spain, with Barcelona refusing to rule out a bid for a player they nurtured and reports that Real Madrid are preparing an offer. Wenger, however, said the Primera Liga is vastly inferior to thePremier League and any player who moves there would be taking a downward step.

"I watched Real Madrid against Almeria [on Thursday] and turned off after 30 minutes – it was unwatchable," he said. "I can't see anyone who has a competitive edge going to Spain. They have two good teams but the third team is 21 points behind and this week the players threatened to go on strike because they are not paid. It's a league that is in complete disarray. If you are competitive you stay in England, that's where the competition is and that's where the best players want to be."

Excerpt of a media advisory issued by the antigraft agency read: “The Commission wishes to state that following the reports in the media over the purported interim injunction, we have since made enquiries from the judge and the court to know whether such order was given. A 29- year old man, Ademola Arogboto is in police custody for allegedly defiling his landlady’s 11 years old daughter..

The victim, a primary six pupil, lives in the same compound with the suspect at a suburb at Iju road.

Mr. Arogboto, who had just moved into his one room apartment on Monday, allegedly asked his landlady’s daughter to help him run errands. The suspect allegedly took advantage of the victim, about 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Lured in

Mr. Arogboto, suspecting that no one was around, allegedly dragged the girl on his bed, locked the door and had sex with her.

The suspect was however arrested when the victim’s elder brother suspected foul play and swooped on him while he was having sex with the girl. The victim’s mother, Bose Ige, said he regrets renting the apartment to the suspect.

“This man who did this terrible thing to my daughter just moved into my house three days ago,” she said. “He told me that he does not know anywhere and that my daughter should help him run errands. On Wednesday, he told my daughter to help him buy rice to eat; I did not suspect any bad thing, so after waiting for sometime without seeing her, I asked her brother to go and look for her. When he got to his room, he knocked but no response, he kept banging the door, but no response, that was how he went round and peeked through the window and saw him have sex with my daughter.”

Mrs Ige said he rushed her daughter to the hospital for treatment and called the police to arrest the suspect. “We took her to the hospital, and it was confirmed that he had sex with her, the doctors are still treating her. I pray that nothing happens to my daughter,” she lamented.

‘She looked advanced’

Mr. Arogboto, a 200 level dropout from the University of Lagos, confessed to the crime. He however said that the victim lured him to have sex with her.

“I did not send her on errand, she come into my room by herself and she looked advanced, like somebody who is mature,” he said. “She was the one who put her hand around me, so when I see that, I carried her on my chest and pull my trouser so that was how I had sex with her. I did not release into her, I released into a tissue paper; but all the time I had sex with her, she did not cry, in short, she behaved like an advanced mature person.”

Police spokesperson Frank Mba said the girl is a minor, and therefore cannot give consent to sexual intercourse.

“According to Section 218 of the criminal code, the girl, cannot give consent and what this man is saying is her “consent” is not recognised in law,” he said. “Parents and wards should befriend their children so that they can feel free to tell them anything that is happening to them.

“They should constantly monitor their girls, and people around them, because such thing is done by people who are close to the family, neighbours, uncles, drivers, people who the parents of the girl repose trust in, will turn round and rape, or defile their daughters. If found guilty of the offence, the suspect is liable to life imprisonment.”
