Vows to 'open up on Ribadu soon'

FIERY Lagos State-based cleric and Vice- Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Pastor Babatunde “Sindiku” Bakare yesterday disclosed that he secured the approval of one of his spiritual fathers, the respected Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, before throwing his hat into the political ring.

Pastor Bakare also gave indications that he was not convinced of the anti-corruption credentials of one of his former allies, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who is the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN).

Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), told a group of journalists that he would “open up” on Ribadu sometime soon.

Recently, incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), visited Pastor Adeboye’s camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and received the blessings of the General Overseer of the fast-growing Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in a much-publicised photograph showing the president kneeling for prayers before the Man of God.

But Bakare, who at various times was a prominent cleric of Pastor William Kumuyi’s Deeper Christian Life Assembly and the RCCG, before founding the LRA, disclosed that Adeboye encouraged him to run with Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The fiery cleric, who said that he was reluctant to run for political office, explained that he was ambushed by prominent people, including Pastor Adeboye, after Gen. Buhari had made overtures to him to be running mate.

He spoke in Lagos yesterday while explaining his vision and mission for Nigerians to a group of journalists.

The CPC Vice Presidential candidate said that when he first told Pastor Adeboye of Buhari’s offer during a telephone call, the reaction he got was favourable.

His words “Pastor Adeboye surprised me. I thought he would say ‘no way!’ He asked who among the lot I thought could rescue Nigeria and I told him Gen.Muhammadu Buhari. I noted that Buhari he has no money and no network to come to the South, coupled with other things they had hung on his neck. Pastor Adeboye said, ‘if you are ever considering Gen. Buhari, then you need a strong Christian to be his running mate.’ But when I called Pastor Adeboye back, he said since you did not lobby for this thing, it is an opportunity for you to express the burden you carry for this nation, go forward. And I asked: ‘Sir, will you support me?’ And he said, ‘with everything I got in my own way. Just go for it, I will be praying.”

Bakare said that he had earlier suggested the names of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory , (FCT), Mallam Nazir el Rufai and former governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke, to run as president and vice- presidential candidates respectively. But he said Duke declined the offer immediately for some personal reasons.”

He continued: “We were now left with el Rufai who advised that we pick Nuhu Ribadu. I told him immediately that we rejected Nuhu Ribadu for reasons that were known to us at that point in time. You will be doing so many things and come to explain so many things. We decided to pair el-Rufai with Oby Ezekwesili. There are some things I know, that when the time permits, I will expose them.”

Bakare said that el-Rufai, however, declined to run because he would be seen as engaged in a contest with Ribadu.

The cleric said that he queried the presidential aspiration of Ribadu from the very beginning. Recalling a forum of the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) in the United Kingdom where Ribadu announced interest in the president’s seat, Bakare said his reaction was one of bewilderment.

His words: ‘You want to rule Nigeria? Who will be your subjects?’ I asked him. And he drove me to my hotel room that day and we spent two hours in his car. I began to lay the things before him that were wrong.”

Apparently questioning Ribadu’s anti-graft credential, Bakare said: “And all this anti-corruption ‘Czar’?
We have stories that we can tell, but we will keep quiet now until the appropriate time.”

He continued: “I had thought that my job was to raise the standard of God’s consciousness in our nation and to ensure that righteousness exalts this nation by way of preaching it, leaving the fear of God in the minds of people and much more modeling it. I have been harassed myself by military dictators and their civilian counterparts in mufti. But I never thought that I would do this. The last time I marched on the streets was in 1978, until January 2010 and that was in the days of ‘Ali Must Go’. And all that happened then was over the increase in meal ticket from N30 to N90. That was killing those days, not now that the naira can hardly buy anything. When I left school, I thought marching on the streets had ended until the crisis that almost took Nigeria to precipice.

Disclosing why he decided to join politics, Bakare said: “On 3rd of May, 2010 during one of our meetings, one of my friends raised a pertinent question, that; ‘are we raising responsible people to vote for irresponsible people?’ That word struck me like thunderbolt. That was the turning point for me”.

He continued: We engaged the political leaders on what should be the minimum requirement for our political office holders. I met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar twice and we also met with President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck Azikiwe who I call JEGA 2. We gave him some documents and some of these documents were passed on to some religious leaders like Pastor Adeboye. (The documents detail) why we would not support Jonathan. We listed three or four things; that the culture of impunity that we fought for had returned”.

Bakare contended that those who hold the view that he lacked political weight should note others did not build their political structures in one day either.

The fiery preacher noted that for much of his adult life, he had been shouting on the rooftop on the need for an improvement in the lot of Nigerians, adding that the failure to heed his call that led him into politics.

His words: “During the last one man, one vote rally at Onikan, I was there with all my children. One man said that I was taking a great risk, and I asked if those people they were mobilising to come out during protests were not born by someone. The zeal for good governance and egalitarian society has consumed me, I am ready to swim or sink with the Nigerian project.”

LAGOS — THE pathway to reconciliation between President Goodluck Jonathan and his foes in the Northern Political Leaders Forum, NPLF, has been articulated in a report of a joint committee constituted by both parties.

Both sides were evasive on the contents of the report which was to be submitted last night. It was, however, gathered that it contained provisions that would accommodate supporters of the NPLF and its presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, in an enlarged Presidential Campaign Committee of the President.

News of the report which was being kept under close wraps came as President Jonathan, weekend, charged his top campaign aides to pursue former President Ibrahim Babangida and erstwhile National Security Adviser, Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (rtd), for the purpose of bringing them on board.

President Jonathan had, weekend, crossed the bridge when he paid a visit to Mallam Adamu Ciroma at his Abuja residence.

Vanguard learnt that the outcome of the meeting was a report that could forge permanent peace between the President and the NPLF.

Before the President visited Ciroma, the erstwhile Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Anthony Anenih, had played the role of peacemaker between the President and the NPLF.

It was learnt that the option of peace with President Jonathan followed the decision of the NPLF to discard the two other options before it. The other options were to support the Presidential Candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari or to frustrate. President Jonathan’s election bid through the courts.

Sources in the Buhari camp confirmed last night that there had been no approaches from the Mallam Adamu Ciroma-led NPLF.

Buhari’s spokesman, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, said: “No approach has been made so far but Gen. Buhari has always maintained that he appreciates support from all sections of Nigeria and as far as we are concerned he is not a candidate of a section of the country.

His constituency is the Federal Republic of Nigeria and all the constituent units but he will not turn down support from any group of persons provided they are Nigerians.” Vanguard learnt last night, that the NPLF would in the next two days make a declaration on the development.

Marching order

The marching order from President Jonathan to his campaign aides is coming on the heels of the President’s plan to heal the wounds that the pre and post PDP Presidential primaries inflicted on the aspirants.

This was the outcome of the meeting President Jonathan held with members of the just constituted Presidential Campaign Council 2011. The meeting which was chaired by President Jonathan, took place at the Legacy House, Saturday, with the major agenda of stock taking, the journey so far and where to go from there on the Jonathan/Sambo presidential campaign.

The meeting started at 10.00pm on Saturday and stretched till 2.30am on Sunday morning with the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Haliru Muhammed Bello, Senator Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, Chief Tony Anenih, Senator Grace Folashade Bent, Senator Teslim Folarin, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, the Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, and others in attendance.

It was gathered that as soon as the meeting started, the President briefed members of efforts he made to reach out to Mallam Adamu Ciroma, Ibrahim Babangida, Atiku, Gusau, and others, just as he stressed the need to mend fences with his former contenders in the PDP presidential race including Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and General Aliyu Gusau.

He then told members of the Presidential Campaign Council 2011 to work out modalities for a meaningful relationship with them.

A source at the meeting said President Jonathan saddled members of the council with the responsibility of reaching out to the former Presidential aspirants as well as open up discussions with them with a view to bringing them on board early enough against the backdrop that he is ready to have his former opponents join him in forming the next government after the April Polls.

It was also gathered that at the meeting after a brief proposal by Ojo Maduekwe who served as Secretary, members spoke on how to finance the 10 committees recently set up by the PDP and the Presidency to see to the emergence of Jonathan as President in the April Presidential election.

Ojo Maduekwe at the meeting stressed the need for creating a sub-committee for the Campaign Council, an indication that more prominent members of PDP would still be enlisted in the committee which holds its next meeting early this week. The meeting, it was learnt, also stressed the importance of the media in the campaign process and the need to properly fund the media committees in order for them to function effectively.

It would be recalled that the PDP brought in former President Olusegun Obasanjo on board of Jonathan’s Presidential campaign as he was named as a key member of Presidential Campaign Council 2011 in his capacity as the Chairman Board of Trustees of PDP.

Other members of the Presidential Council are the Senate President, David Mark, House of Representatives Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, House of Representatives Leader, Tunde Akogun, Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, Babangida Muazu, Bukola Saraki, among others.

Campaign council
Besides the Campaign Council headed by President Jonathan, other Committees include Presidential Campaign Directors, zonal co-ordinators which include Liyel Imoke, SouthSsouth; Martin Elechi, South-East; Gbenga Daniel, South-West; Gabriel Suswam, Middle Belt; Isa Yuguda, North-East and Ibrahim Shema, North-West.

Other Committees include Entertainment/Protocol Committee, Publicity Secretary which include Tony Iredia, Ojeifo Sufuyan, Ima Niboro, Doyin Okupe, Oronto Douglas, Raymond Dokpesi with PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ahmed Rufai Alkali as Chairman.

There is also the Finance and Fund Raising Committee headed by Oba Otudeko, while the Security Committee is headed by Mike Okiro, just as there is the Inter_Party Relations Committee and headed by Chief Ebenezer Babatope.

Another strategic Committee for Jonathan Sambo campaign include Monitoring/Strategic Committee headed by President Jonathan with PDP National Chairman, Bello Muhammed, David Mark, Anyim Pius Anyim, Shuaibu Oyedokun, Ojo Maduekwe and others as members.

The Donor Committee is headed By Alhaji Aliko Dangote while Mr Tony Elumelu, Alhaji Kashim Bukar, Chief Emeka Offor, Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola, Jim Ovia, Sayyu Dantata, Kola Salako and late President Umoru Yar’Adua’s closest friend, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal as members.

Baby Enioluwa Now Found

Ten month-old Enioluwa Odegbaike who went missing two weeks ago from his parents' home in Magodo, Lagos has been found. According to a member of the Odegbaike family, he was found this morning in the border town of Badagry in Lagos. "Yes he has been found. He is fine and he is in good health," he said. A female member of the family, who identified herself as Ibukun, confirmed that the baby has been reunited with his family. "Our dearest baby and now yours, Enioluwanimi just came back home safely at 8.20am this morning," she said. Baby Enioluwa disappeared with her nanny, Victoria on February 13. It Is still uncertain if the family paid any ransom and the Police Public Relations Officer, Samuel Jinadu could not be reached to comment on the matter.

10 month old Enioluwa Odegbaike with babysitter's picture inset.

The family of 10-month-old Enioluwa Odegbaike who went missing 11 days ago has called on Nigerians to pray for the return of their baby because other efforts to find the child has proved abortive.

A member of the family who refused to give his name, said in a telephone interview with NEXT that the mother of the baby remains traumatised by the experience.

“She just wants to be left alone. All we need from Nigerians is their prayers that he is found and in good health,” he said.

The child was taken away from his parents’ home in Magodo, Lagos by his nanny on Sunday, February 13 and was never seen again. The nanny is believed to be working with some unknown persons.

Useful leads

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police command, Samuel Jinadu, said the police has arrested the man who acted as the nanny’s referee and introduced her to the Odegbaike’s home. He is reportedly being questioned by the police.

“The person who introduced the nanny to the family has been arrested and is being quizzed by the police. The case has been transferred to the State CID. All efforts are being made to find the missing boy. The case is still under investigation.” He said.

Underground kidnapping in Lagos

The spate of kidnapping in recent times has led many victims and their families to find various means of finding their loved ones who go missing.

The Internet, through websites, BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms have become tools that residents now use to spread news of kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

When five-year-old Sharon Omolayo was kidnapped from her school, Avicenna International School, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos by a trusted employee, on December 13, 2010, the Internet played a major role in spreading the news of her kidnap.

For the seven days she went missing, her pictures and that of her abductor was widely circulated online through several blogs, websites, Facebook and Twitter and within a few days, her name and pictures were imbedded in the minds of almost every Internet user within the country and abroad.

“It was hard not to see her,” said Efemena Mayo, a student. “Her pictures were everywhere. I first got it on my BlackBerry. Then I saw it on Facebook, Twitter, and different blogs. Before I knew it, I was looking closely at every young girl I passed on the street to see if she was Sharon because she had a birth mark on her face that was hard to miss.”

According to David Ogburn, Principal of Avicenna International School, the Internet was a very helpful tool in circulating information about Miss Omolayo, and once the information got on to Facebook, it spread quickly.

Also, when the duo of Ify Eneli and Michael Neri were kidnapped on Friday January 28 while leaving a night club in Victoria Island, Lagos, their pictures and the information about their kidnap spread quickly over the Internet with friends and family members asking for the support of the people in helping to find them.

They were released some days later after their families paid a ransom to their abductors and this information was again circulated over the Internet.

Recently, a picture of missing 10-month old Enioluwa Odegbaike has been circulated over the Internet, ensuring that more and more people get to know about the kidnap and lookout for him.

Still searching for Enioluwa

According to a release by the family, any information concerning the missing child should be reported to the nearest police station.

“If you have any information about Enioluwa or the nanny no matter how trivial, please call 07085534788, or the nearest police station. Enioluwa’s mother (Foluso) can be reached on this number, 08022228422,” said the family member who refused to comment further on the issue.

If you have any information concerning the disappearance of Enioluwa Odegbaike please call the numbers above or send a mail to metro@234next.com or  findenioluwa@systemini.net

After 16 years, couple is blessed with twins • I spent N10m to have a child – Man
From OKEY SAMPSON, Aba

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

When Chief Rems Uchendu (a.k.a Agunechemba 1 of Aba), set out to exit bachelorhood in 1992, he had in mind like any other man with strong Igbo blood in his veins to start having babies within the next nine months.
babi20-16[1].gif?width=278
Uchendu, wife and babies

He was convinced that the parcel he picked was well loaded and among the best and, therefore, had no need to worry about.

But wishes, they say, are not horses. For 16 tortuous years, Uchedu lived with her wife, Judith, but without a single child to show for the marriage. Chief Uchendu did his traditional marriage on June 6, 1992 and church wedding on November 28 of the same year.

As the problem lingers, Uchendu who hails from Ibeme Ugiri in Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State set out in search for a solution.

This took the husband and wife from one place to another; from one medical prescription to another, yet there was no headway.

In a chat with Daily Sun, Uchendu said: “I did everything humanly possible for 16 years to see if I could get a child, but there was no way. I spent more than N10 million in the search for just a child, in fact, all the money I made within that period was all spent, and still there was no solution.”

But one thing that the couple had going for them was their absolute faith in what God can do.

“After sometime, we took a decision that we would not go to any where again in search of a child; if God would not give us one, we will accept His wish after all we’ve tried as human beings. After that decision, we stopped all medications towards this direction and hoped wholly on God”, Uchendu said.

Uchendu, a Christian of the Catholic fold, decided to put his faith in God in practice as he went into knighthood and was conferred with the Knight of Saint John International (KSJ).

Two spectacular things happened during the period that preceded his initiation into knighthood in September 2007.

First, his wife who although may have disagreed with him on some issues, but definitely not on the issue of child bearing, vehemently opposed his idea of going into knighthood.

Her reason, according to Uchendu, was that, “when one is initiated into knighthood, he would not marry two wives. She was afraid my family would accuse her of luring me into knighthood in order to stop me from marrying another woman who would bear me children. I told her to relax because all the while, she never knew there was no pressure from my family to marry another woman because we are a Christian family”.

The second and more spectacular thing which happened within the period was that as Uchendu was attending programmes preparatory to his knighthood initiation, his wife became pregnant and they never knew.

His words: “As I was attending programmes preceding my initiation into the knighthood, I never knew my wife had taken in. When it became evident, I asked her to go for scanning tests and the results showed he had only one child in her womb and we prepared for her delivery based on the result of the scanning.

“But God in His infinite way of doing things, my wife in February 2008, delivered twins (a boy and a girl). One came out at exactly 5.00p.m. on that fateful day and the second followed 30 minutes later,” he said.

As the twins, Prince Udochukwu and Princeness Adaeze were delivered, Uchendu said that at first he was confused, but later felt relieved.

He said everything around him changed as his house on School Road, Aba became a tourist site of sorts. People from far and near came to see for themselves if actually his wife given birth. Even some American doctors who attended to them in Nigeria when they were in search of the fruit of the womb, joined in the ecstasy of that moment. They went further to send gift items from America for the upkeep of the kids.

In the 16 years of waiting, wherever the couple went for medical tests, they were always said to be okay. But this never stopped people from cajoling them until it got to the point where they were in turn praised..

“Although within the 16 years of waiting, people said all sorts of things against us, but we were not bothered because we knew that one day, God will answer our prayers. After sometime, those who were cajoling and calling us all sorts of names, then turned around to praise and call us the best couple around,” he said.

Recently, the twins clocked two years and their father who had at their delivery presented a cow in fulfillment of the vow he made to God, treated them to a lavish birthday ceremony.

But like Oliver Twist, Chief Uchendu who asked for just a child, but God gave him two at once, is asking for more children, even as he said “at the same time, I will be contented with the twins if that’s all God has for me.”

According to US diplomatic cables leaked to the whistleblower site Wikileaks, and which were made exclusively available to us, Mr. Jonathan helped himself gain the vice presidency four years ago by voting illegally four times. The astonishing accusation against Mr. Jonathan, now a president seeking validation at the polls next month, came from Edo governor Adams Oshiomhole, in a December 2008 briefing with US diplomats.

According to Mr. Oshiomhole, as reported in the US diplomatic cables, the court ruling voiding the supposed election of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Edo governor and declaring Mr. Oshiomhole the legitimate winner would not have been possible without documentary evidence that, Mr. Jonathan, among others, personally rigged the election.

“Oshiomhole told poloffs (‘political officers’ at the US embassy) that it proved impossible to use forensic evidence because of the poor quality of thumbprints and that claims of intimidation also proved difficult to prove in a court of law, but documentary evidence, such as proof that the ‘vice president’ had voted four times, for example, proved decisive in the courts,” the cables revealed.

Little birds

These particular cables from US diplomats stationed in Nigeria and reporting to the State Department in Washington are among a massive trove of documents made available to NEXT in a worldwide exclusive. The documents cover a whole range of people and events in our country from as early as 2003 to the last months of the poorly President Umaru Yar’Adua, whose death in office a year ago ended a constitutional crisis and resulted in the ascent of Mr. Jonathan to the highest office in the land. The cables provide an unusually unvarnished insight into the dysfunctional and ineffectual nature of our government at all levels, the various forces pushing and pulling at the country, and the vileness and rapacity of those we have allowed to govern us. Two unnamed political officers, or “poloffs,” in US diplomatic jargon, visited the governor on Dec. 17, 2008 shortly after his legal victory. It was during that meeting that Mr. Oshiomhole made his explosive claim, as dutifully recorded by his visitors. Their cable originated from the Lagos consulate. In the cable, dated Dec. 29, 2008, Mr. Jonathan, who was vice president at the time, is said to have violated the Electoral Act by voting more than once. The law stipulates a maximum fine of N1 million or 12 months’ imprisonment for violators. At a campaign rally on Thursday, President Jonathan repeated his recent declaration that neither he nor his party had any desire to rig the coming elections. He added that he would advocate transparent elections even at the cost of losing the election.

“I am assuring Nigerians that though I am contesting, nobody must manipulate votes in my favour. Our vote is very important,” he said.

Not so secret

The vote-rigging allegations against the president are known to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), according to a highly-placed source at the Commission. The source, who did not want to be named for fear of a reprisal, revealed that a petition had been filed at INEC since 2007 in which references were made to the fact that the former vice president and other public figures voted several times. The source said that the petition did not single out President Jonathan but used him as a high profile example of the rife multiple registrations that took place in Bayelsa, Mr. Jonathan’s home state, where he had served as governor, and other states in the broader Delta region.

“There was a petition which I was aware of dated November 2007 or so,” the source told NEXT. “It was filed by a pressure group in the South-South who named several people as being complicit in multiple voting. Jonathan was one of the people mentioned.

“We get hundreds of such petitions and most of them are without merit. Also, the truth is we just don’t have the time to look into all of them.”

Local and international observers condemned the 2007 election for being heavily rigged in favour of the PDP, with some classifying it as our worst ever. Even President Yar’Adua, in his inaugural address, acknowledged as much, promising to clean things up by 2011. Several cases are still pending in court over the four-year-old election, with successful upturns recorded in Ondo, Ekiti, Edo and Osun states. Mr. Oshiomhole, who is himself a beneficiary of a successful legal challenge in Edo state, is described in the diplomatic cable as a “refreshing reminder that Nigeria possesses competent and honest leaders”.

During the visit by the US officials, the Edo State governor said that approximately 2,000 volunteers in 120 different polling stations had gone through ballots, result sheets and voter registration records to identify documentary evidence of fraud.

Double registration

A day before President Jonathan announced that “nobody must manipulate votes in my favour”, Attahiru Jega, the electoral commission chairman, revealed that several high profile individuals registered more than once in the recently completed voter registration exercise. Mr. Jega refused to divulge the names of the “high profile double registrants” but said that they could all face prosecution.

Several parties have responded angrily to Mr. Jega’s stark admission that influential Nigerians were planning to rig the forthcoming elections. Ibrahim Modibbo, a spokesperson for the Nuhu Ribadu presidential campaign, said that although the INEC chairman did not mention any names, almost all of the offenders were in the PDP.

“I don’t believe you will find ACN members in this act because we are disciplined people,” he said.

The party’s secretary, Lai Mohammed, denounced Mr. Jega’s decision to withhold the name of the culprits and demanded he publish them.

“If he has the names as he claims, what is he waiting for? He should publish their names and prosecute them,” he said.

The spokesperson for the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), Emma Eneukwu, said the offenders should be taken to court,

“It is a criminal offence,” he said. “If the penalty attached to these offences are handed to the offenders, it will serve as deterrent. There is no sacred cow.

“The issue of multiple registration has been a problem in the country and until somebody is punished we cannot have transparent polls.”

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties(CNPP) spokesman, Osita Okechukwu, challenged the electoral commission boss to publish the names.

“We challenge Jega to publish forthwith the names of those involved and prosecute them in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act,” he said. “He should immediately ask all the RECs (Resident Electoral Commissioners) to audit the Authentic Finger Identification System (AFIS) so that they can separate the junk and the underaged.”

Jonathan camp disagrees with Buhari, Ribadu, Shekarau over debate
Barely six days to the presidential debate, there is disagreement between President Goodluck Jonathan and three other presidential candidates over the mode of the debate.

The others are Mallam Nuhu Ribadu (Action Congress of Nigeria); Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Congress for Progressive Change); and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau (All Nigeria Peoples Party).

Television station NN24 in conjunction with about 30 international stations, is organising the live debate for the four top runners. There are 17 other candidates running for President in the April 9 poll..

The order of the debate as arranged is as follows: First Presidential debate (March 8); Vice-Presidential debate (March 11); and Second Presidential debate (March 18).

In preparation for the debate, the management of the TV station and the collaborators met with representatives of the four candidates last Tuesday.

Those who attended the meeting were Dr. Doyin Okupe (PDP); Mr Yinka Odumakin (CPC); Mr Ibrahim Modibbo (ACN); and Mallam Sule Yau Sule (ANPP)

But the pre-debate session was stalemated following Jonathan camp’s two-point demands.

The PDP demanded that the advance copy of questions be made available to candidates. It also requested an outright stoppage of the studio audience from posing questions to the candidates.

It was learnt that representatives of Buhari, Ribadu and Shekarau, however, insisted on an open debate without inhibitions.

It was gathered that when the stalemate could not be resolved, the meeting was shifted till yesterday to find solutions to grey areas.

But when the session reconvened, the representative of the PDP candidate was absent.

A top source said: “All the four candidates are sticking to their positions and this irreconcilable challenge is a threat to the debate.

“I think there is that suspicion that the opposition is trying to use the debate to embarrass the President on key economic issues like the 60-40% ratio of recurrent and capital allocations; excess crude account; and foreign reserves.

“The way some of the candidates have been passionate about the state of the economy is a worry to the Jonathan camp.

“They are also suspecting that the audience might be skewed in favour of the opposition candidates.”

Another source at the session said: “We won’t allow any candidate to have prepared questions and later come to the session with a teleprompter.

“What we are demanding is that Nigerians and the world should assess the presidential candidates based on their natural endowments.

“We will rather cancel the debate than bend the rules for one of the candidates.”

But a source in the Jonathan camp said: “The manner in which some representatives of the other candidates were behaving at the pre-debate meeting showed clearly that they are up to mischief.

“Mr. President has nothing to hide and he is not afraid of debate but he won’t be a party to mischief.

An official of the Shekarau campaign organisation said last night that the ANPP candidate’s team will speak on the debate tomorrow.

12166300485?profile=originalChannel 4 News learns that the head of a London-based evangelical church with 3,000 congregation members has been charged with indecent assault on a child under 16.

The pastor of a global evangelical movement based in the UK has been charged with sex offences against former members of his congregation.

Dr Albert Odulele who runs Glory House International in London is to appear in court next week. One charge alleges indecent assault of a child under the age of 16.

Dr Odulele, who is 47 years old, is a major figure in the word of evangelism. His church, based in east London, says it has a congregation of 3,000, but he has many more followers around the world through appearances at international evangelic conferences, on religious TV programmes and videos on YouTube.

Registered charity

The church has been a registered charity for 18 years and turns over £2million a year. He was arrested last summer by the Metropolitan Police's Major Child Abuse Investigation Unit.

Channel Four News has learned that he has been charged with two offences - an indecent assault of an under 16 year old, and the sexual assault of another male teenager. This programme understands the alleged assaults took place in 2003 and 2004...

The Evangelical Alliance - the group that represents evangelical churches in the UK - gave this statement: "Our overriding concern here is for the care, protection and welfare of children and young people, so it is imperative that all churches adopt safe practice in order to protect children and young people from abuse - and staff members and volunteers from the possibility of false accusation."

Channel 4 News made several attempts to contact Doctor Odulele and get reaction from Glory House International. They have not responded, though we are told that he is on "annual leave" at the moment. He is due to appear at Bexley Magistrates Court on Monday.

12166300684?profile=originalThe glamorous lovers’ day celebration on Monday turned bloody at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) when gunmen killed two students. Daily Sun gathered that the clash was between two rival cult groups, namely, Black Axe and the Buccaneers,’ over a female student allegedly snatched by the Capone of the Black Axe for Valentine celebration.

The action of the Capone , the source said did not go down well with the other group leading to the clash.
A student who witnessed the shooting said besides the two cult members who were shot dead, about four others sustained injuries and were ferried out of the campus by their leaders to shield their identity.

The sources said the cult members who carried out the attack were not UNILAG students but members from another campus, adding that the attack was carried out in a commando style with sporadic shooting.
An undergraduate student of English Department told Daily Sun that the Buccaneers’ group attacked the Black Axe members while another student returning from the Mosque said those who carried out the killing were not from UNILAG because they did not cover their faces.

It was learnt that as soon the shooting started, students scampered for safety while others took cover behind the wall and under cars packed around, while others ran into the halls to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
A senior lecturer who confirmed the killings said the university management had met to curtail any reprisal attack while security personnel had taken over the investigation of the deadly cult clash.
When Daily Sun visited the troubled institution yesterday, there was uneasy calm, as most staff and students rebuffed efforts made by the reporters to get their comments.

However, one of the students who resides at Sodeinde Hall, said there was sporadic gunshots outside the premises which caused panic everywhere.
It was gathered that the crisis, which erupted when the students were at the peak of lovers’ day celebration, created stampede on the campus as people ran for safety.

One of the victims of the attack reportedly ran into Sodeinde Hall for help, from where he was taken to the hospital.
Although the Hall Master of Sodeinde Hall declined comments on the issue, one of the officials, who wouldn’t want his name published, said the attack could not be linked to any cult group. He said there was increasing speculation that the perpetrators of the attack could be fighting for love. Efforts made by Daily Sun our reporter to ascertain the identities of the victims were unsuccessful.
The news bulletin of the university, Information Flash (ISSN 08195540) also captured the incident, while assuring the staff and students of the university of adequate security.

“The attention of the universities authorities has been drawn to the incident which occurred in one of the Halls of Residence in the late hours of Monday, February 14, 2011 where two persons were reportedly injured in fracas. The university management has commenced investigation into the unusual incident, in particular at a time when preparation for the first semester examinations due to commence on February 21, 2011 are in top gear. Security has been intensified to ensure safety of life and property on campus. Law enforcement agents have been involved to assist the university in this respect,” it said.
Daily Sun learnt that students are leaving the campus because of the fear of reprisal attack while some parents called their wards on phone to return home until the situation is brought under control.

The Deputy Registrar Information of UNILAG, Mr. Dare Adebisi refused to pick his calls or replied to text message sent to his phone.
When the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Samuel Jinadu (DSP) was called thrice, he promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area and did not call back as at the press time....

General Ibrahim Babangida

There are very strong and reliable indications that the last may not have been heard of the presidential ambition of ex-military Presid

The adoption of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the consensus candidate of the Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF) may after all not have ended the desire of the retired General to run.

Sources have revealed that the retired General will any moment from now announce his defection to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) as pressures on him to toe this line have not ceased.

Babangida, from impeccable sources would not likely survive the pressure to decamp to another party to ensure the north actualises its plans to produce the president in May at all costs.

Saturday Sun can authoritatively report that Babangida’s supporters feel betrayed and angry that members of the NPLF committee saddled with the responsibility of picking one person, among the former head of state, Atiku, Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki and former National Security Adviser, General Aliyu Gusau, chose another presidential aspirant when Babangida not only ranked highest in the criteria listed but also has large following across the country.

But beyond that lost battle, the calculation now is that the north feels cheated and has the clear signs that the candidates of the opposition parties from the north vying for the presidency might not make any impact to unseat President Goodluck Jonathan. The way out of the possibility of losing is to beef up the fight in choosing another candidate of a more formidable war chest to slug it out with the PDP and eventually capture power.

Sources close to the Babangida camp said that his supporters have been putting pressure on him to take advantage of the opportunity the amendment of the ANNP constitution presents and defect to the party. “Leaders of the ANPP are disposed to a candidate that could win the presidential election”, the source revealed.

The forces behind this plot argue that since the NPLF was not fair in its choice, Babangida could, as well, renege on his promise to accept its choice of consensus candidate.

The ANPP had amended its constitution and added a provision that any former head of state that wishes to pursue his presidential ambition in the political party was free to do so. The party had delayed its national convention, so that PDP would conclude its own, to make room for aggrieved members of the party to come over the ANPP.

Saturday Sun was reliably told that the Babangida camp believes that since the retired army officer would not press his presidential ambition in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he would not have breached any agreement if he defects to the ANPP.

Sources revealed that after the NPLF forum announced Atiku as consensus candidate, some leaders of ANPP started lobbying Babangida’s supporters to prevail on him to come over to the party and pick its presidential ticket. Among ANPP leaders who want Babangida and in the forefront of the lobby is Borno State governor, Alhaji Modu Sheriff and former Kogi State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Audu. These two top shots of the ANPP, sources revealed, were instrumental to the emergence of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu as the national chairman of the party and wants a formidable presidential candidate in next year’s election.

It was gathered that the ANPP leaders want to reenact what happened in 2003 when former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari picked the presidential ticket, despite the fact that he joined the party not long before the primaries.

Babangida camp’s calculation

The Babangida camp is considering the option of joining the ANPP, as he reckons that he may eventually end up as northern preferred/consensus candidate in the 2011 presidential election. The calculation is that since President Goodluck Jonathan defeated Atiku at the primaries of the PDP, to pick the presidential ticket, it rendered the NPLF plot to have a president of northern extraction take over power from May 29 a nullity.

The belief is that in an election where Babangida squares up with Jonathan, northern political leaders would have no choice than to pitch their tent with him. Sources also revealed that such development would also see Atiku, Gusau and Saraki indirectly working with Babangida, believing that he would return to the PDP if he wins the election.

It was gathered that Babangida’s supporters are pressing it on him that if he refuses to join the ANPP and picks its presidential ticket, Buhari may be the beneficiary of the suspected defeat of Atiku at PDP primaries, since the North may switch its support to the Congress for Political Change (CPC), in a presidential election where Jonathan and Buhari are candidates of their political parties.

Anger against Ciroma committee

The Babangida camp revealed that the General’s supporters are insinuating a deliberate shortchange, betrayal and back stabbing by the nine members of the Malam Adamu Ciroma committee. They accused the group of making a decision against the run of play, insisting that the committee didn’t adhere to due process in its choice. These aggrieved Babangida diehards say that media reports on how members of the Ciroma committee voted were true. They contend that members of the committee chose to adopt secret ballot, in order to execute the plot of not picking Babangida.

Babangida started losing out in the consensus arrangement when the Ciroma committee decided to visit the states to get additional information about the preparedness of the aspirants, which was beyond its brief. It was learnt that rather than meet with major stakeholders in the North, especially the Northern Governors Forum, the committee selected a handful of Emirs and some other traditional rulers.

.

Saturday Sun gathered that the committee, in investigating the structures of the presidential aspirants in the consensus option, observed that Babangida had offices in 29 states, while Atiku had in 18 states. Saraki and Gusau were said to have offices in 12 and 14 states respectively. Also, the committee observed that Babangida had supporters spread across the country, especially those he empowered while in office. Based on these findings, Babangida was the favourite of members of the Ciroma committee before the Eid el Fitri holiday.

It was after the Sallah break, the committee started sounding discordant tunes. First, members of the group, it was gathered, were divided between conducting an open ballot and or secret balloting. Some of them reasoned that on account of their ages, they should not be afraid of conducting an open ballot, but Chief Audu Ogbeh, reportedly argued in favour of secret balloting to allow the members free choice.

ent, General Ibrahim Babangida, Saturday Sun can reveal.

A new Thai airline is hiring transsexuals as flight attendants, aiming at a unique identity to set itself apart from competitors as it sets out for the skies.

Known as 'katoeys' or 'ladyboys,' transgenders and transsexuals have greater visibility in Thailand than in many other nations, holding mainstream jobs in a variety of fields.

They are especially common in cosmetics shops or health stores, which almost always have a ladyboy shop assistant.

In demand: Four transsexual flight attendants were chosen by new airline PC Air after hundreds applied for the positions

PC Air, a charter airline set to start operations on Asian routes in April, originally planned only to hire male and female flight attendants.

But it changed its mind after receiving more than 100 job applications from transvestites and transsexuals.

Four were chosen, along with 19 female and 7 male flight attendants.

While the airline strives for equality, PC Air president Peter Chan, who chooses the transsexual cabin crew himself, said he needed to spend longer with interviews for such applicants.

'For male flight attendants, if I don't want to hire them, it's because of their attitude or their characters, like the way they walk and smile.

'When I knew that I got this job, I burst into tears because I'm very happy,' said 24-year-old Chayathisa Nakmai.

Training: Officials from PC Air said it had to be spend all day interview transsexual applications to make sure they had 'feminine character'

'I had sent many applications to different airlines.'

The airline said that the qualifications for the ladyboy flight attendants were the same as for female flight attendants, with the additional provisos that they be like women in how they walk and talk, and have a feminine voice and the right attitude.

Though there is very little discrimination against ladyboys in Thailand, they are not officially recognised as women and their identification cards will always say 'male'.

'For female flight attendants, if they have no patience and their character does not qualify, we won't hire them,' he added.

'For transsexuals, we can't just spend five or 10 minutes with them, we have to spend the whole day with them to make sure they have feminine characters.'

Taking off: The new airline will initially fly to South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and China

The airline said it may hire more flight attendants from the 'third gender' in the future since the Department of Civil Aviation has no objections.

Though excited by the opportunity, the transsexual flight attendants said they were aware they needed to prove themselves.

'People will keep their eyes on us... There will be more pressure,' said Dissanai Chitpraphachin, 23, who was crowned as Thailand's most beautiful transvestite in 2007.

'We have to prepare ourselves more than the women.'..

The airline is initially set to fly to South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and China.

Man with 86 wives to sue INEC

The celebrated polygamist, Pa Abubakar Masaba, is heading for a showdown with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police following allegations that members of his family, numbering over 5,000 were denied registration by suspected thugs in the just concluded voter registration exercise. Our correspondent gathered that suspected thugs allegedly thwarted efforts by members of the Masaba’s family to participate in the voter registration exercise at a registration unit in Bida Local Government Area of the state. Masaba is reported to have 86 wives. It was learnt that the thugs specifically prevented INEC officials from registering the Masaba family and that security operatives allegedly refused to come to his rescue. The lawyer to the family, Mr. Shehu Jubril, told our correspondent in Minna, Niger State, that over 10 hoodlums frustrated efforts of the Masabas to register. He alleged that the thugs, led by one Gimba, created pandemonium in a registration unit close to Masaba’s residence as they stormed the area beating and wounding members of the family who had queued up to register. He said the hoodlums overpowered officials of INEC and prevented them from registering Masaba’s family members. He claimed that about nine members of the family were wounded by the attackers, lamenting that despite complaints lodged by Masaba to the police area commander, nobody was arrested in connection with the incident. He accused the police of connivance and said Masaba had concluded plans to seek redress in court. He said the development amounted to a breach of fundamental human rights and assault. “The recent interview granted by the area commander in a local newspaper has however indicated that police have taken sides on the matter as he went on saying that the family has no business registering at their own Masaba ‘A’ polling unit”, he said. When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Richard Oguche, he said he was yet to receive the report.. He said the district police officers would brief the command on developments in their various areas on Monday (today). Also, INEC state Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdulmalik Wase, claimed ignorance of the development and said he knew nothing about Masaba and his family.

Cameroon and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o set a new landmark for individual success in African football on Monday after being named the continent's Footballer of the Year for a record fourth time.

12166296678?profile=originalThe 2010 award came five years after his last triumph and capped a year of unprecedented club success in which he also extended his scoring record at the African Nations Cup finals.

The Cameroon captain finished ahead of Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba and Asamoah Gyan of Ghana in the polling for Africa's top individual prize, awarded at the Confederation of African Football's awards gala in Cairo.

"It is a pleasure to be a winner again, to take it for the fourth time against such top opposition," Eto'o told a news conference after the ceremony.

"It is true now that Africa has so many good players and there is lots of talent coming up, so this might be a last chance for me."

Eto'o was African Footballer of the Year from 2003-05 and his fourth award surpasses the three titles won by Abedi Pele in the early 1990s.jpeg&STREAMOID=bBLld$04Pbkd$CLrzcdCQC6SYeqqxXXqBcOgKOfTXxT0dtkZQrvlKNstOzlIebRvnW_PgxgftuECOcfJwS6Jtlp$r8Fy$6AAZ9zyPuHJ25T7a9GKDSxsGxtpmxP0VAUyHL6IDcZHtmM2t7xO$FHdJG95dFi6y2Uma3vSsvPpVyo-

Eto'o's goal-scoring form helped Inter Milan to a triple of titles last season, including the UEFA Champions League in which the 29-year-old took a winner's medal for a second successive year.

He scored on Saturday as the Italians beat African champions TP Mazembe Englebert in the Club World Cup final in Abu Dhabi.

Dangote Cement Plc has emerged African‘s biggest cement manufacturer company with the presence of its plants in 14 different African countries. The countries include, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa, Congo, Ethiopia, Cameroun, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana and Senegal. The move, according to the company was to ensure that Africa remains self-sufficient in cement production and making the products easily available and at highly affordable costs to the end users. It would be recalled that the Boston Consulting Group, a United States-based rating agency, listed the Dangote Group among the top 40 African Challengers, which are companies of African origin with the potential to rival Fortune 500 Companies. Some of the criteria used in making the selection include size, growth and international expansion. Dangote Group has 13 subsidiaries spread all over Nigeria and it operates in over 14 African countries. All these enhanced its positive rating. While a whopping $400m was invested in Zambia for the construction of the plant, Dangote increased its stake in Sephaku Cement Limited, which is based in South Africa, from 19.76 per cent to 64 per cent, with an investment of R779m. The huge investment into Sephaku Cement by Dangote, is the largest ever foreign direct investment by an African company into South Africa. .President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, commenting on the global expansion of his business, especially his cement arm, recently said: ”By the middle of 2013, all our factories in Africa will be ready. We will be fully operational, manufacturing about 14 countries in Africa alone. The 14 factories are the ones on ground now. If there are opportunities in more countries, like in Zambia and Kenya, we will definitely go there. These 14 are purely in cement. But other countries are equally asking us to come and do some other things”He also said the group had also opened office ”in Dubai, Gibraltar, London and China and we will soon be opening an office in India”While commending the Federal Government‘s backward integration policy, Dangote said, ”Some people grumble about cement manufacturing versus cement imports. Fine. But let us look at it this way. The expectation is that Nigeria will be consuming about 20 million tonnes of cement next year. Twenty million tonnes next year will be, at least, even with the low prices abroad, about $2bn. Why should Nigeria spend $2bn importing cement. It doesn‘t make sense; it doesn‘t make any economic sense at all. We have all the raw materials to produce enough cement here and Nigeria should be exporting cement to Cameroun, to Chad, to Ghana. Ghana consumes four million tonnes per year and they don‘t produce one bag. We should be self-sufficient in cement production here, which is going to happen by next year.”

Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former presidential candidate, succumbs to cancer at 61

Elizabeth Edwards, who as the wife of former Sen. John Edwards gave America an intimate look at a candidate's marriage by sharing his quest for the 2008 presidential nomination as she struggled with incurable cancer and, secretly, with his infidelity, died Tuesday. She was 61.

Her family confirmed the death, saying Mrs. Edwards was surrounded by relatives when she died at her Chapel Hill, N.C., home. A family friend said John Edwards was present. Two family friends said Monday that Mrs. Edwards' cancer had spread to her liver and that doctors had advised against further medical treatment.

She posted a Facebook message to friends the same day, saying, "I have been sustained throughout my life by three saving graces — my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope."

"The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that," she added.

Mrs. Edwards spent much of her life as a little-known lawyer and mother. That changed when her husband became a U.S. senator, presidential candidate and Democratic nominee for vice president, propelling her into the spotlight as a smart, plain-spoken wife and key adviser to her husband.

She later became a figure of sympathy as she battled breast cancer and dealt with her husband's infidelity. Her public image shifted again in recent years: the scorned woman whose husband fathered a child with another woman.

She and John Edwards separated early this year but remained close.

On the wings of the 2010 Felabration that just ended in Lagos, one of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's wives, Kevwe, speaks with CHUX OHAI and ADA ONYEMA about her life with the late Afrobeat musician. How did you meet Fela? I used to take food to an uncle of mine known as Gabriel Okpaku. He had a studio. I would take the food to him there. One day, when I got to the studio, he locked me in the dark room and walked away, leaving me in company with Fela, who was visiting him at the time. I had sex with Fela that day. Later, Fela said he wouldn't like me to live in the same house as his boys in the Mosalasi area. He took me to his first wife, Remi, who was Femi's mother. The first day I saw her, I was shocked because she was very light and her hair was as long as that of a white woman. Fela left me in her care and asked her to take care of me. I told her everything about myself and she said that if I should take her word and be like a daughter to her, there would not be any problem....

Which year was this?

That was in 1972. He had just recorded the popular album, Shakara.

Did you eventually marry Fela officially?

Yes, I did. I was one of the 27 women Fela married in one day. His friend took us to his house first before we were taken to a high court for the wedding. The people at the court said we were underage and that Fela should be arrested for even thinking of luring us into marriage. Eventually, they threw us out and we went to his friend's office and from there to the late Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti's residence. By that time, Fela's house had been burned down. So he rented a hotel where 12 herbalists were invited to conduct the wedding ceremony.

Which one of Fela's house was burnt? Was it the one in Mosalasi?

Yes.

Were you living with Fela then?

Yes.

Can you describe what happened?

I was an eyewitness. What happened was this: Femi was learning to drive a car. On his way back, the police arrested him for one reason or the other. The policemen who made the arrest argued with Fela's boys, who appeared to be drunk at the time. A fight ensued and one of the policemen fell to the ground. The others ran to nearby Abalti Army Barracks and reported the matter to some soldiers. Before the soldiers arrived, the boys had already gone into hiding inside Fela's compound. The police came in and told Fela that they wanted to arrest his boys. But Fela said he was not going to allow that and they threatened to bring in the army. By this time, Fela had fortified his residence, which was walled, with a live electric wire and anybody that touched the wire would be electrocuted to death. When this was going on, he told his mother that he wanted to activate the wire; but she said he should let the police go into the compound as long as they had a search warrant. Also, she said if they didn't come with one, he should be ready to wage a total war with them. Of course, it turned out that the policemen did not come with a search warrant and they came in company with many soldiers. All of them surrounded Fela's compound at once. He had no choice other than to turn on the electricity, thereby activating the wire on the fence. In the process, some soldiers were electrocuted. That was why their colleagues came back forcefully and threw fire into the generator that supplied the electricity and the generator burned out. Having destroyed the power generator, the soldiers were able to gain entry into Fela's home. When they got in, they shot five girls to death instantly. I still remember their names. They were Patience, Kemi, Kehinde and Taiwo, alongside two white men, who were standing at the front gate of the compound. I didn't remember anything else until I woke up to see myself in Abalti barracks.

Was it on the same day that Fela's mother was killed?

Yes, the soldiers killed his mother on that day. They came in with arms and were prepared to kill everybody in sight. Immediately they started shooting, I went to hide in the toilet. But they found me and beat the hell out of me. I saw them go upstairs to Fela's mother and carry her. At that point, I was in pains and half-conscious. But I knew they threw her downstairs. They were really determined to kill.

After you got married to Fela, what happened?

After the marriage ceremony, we went to Ghana for the honeymoon.

All the 27 wives?

Yes, all the 27 wives with Alex Conde, the one that married the late Chief Okotie Eboh's daughter. He took us to Ghana for the honeymoon and from there Fela brought other girls. The other wives were always jealous because Fela paid a lot of attention to me. Fela used to tell us to smoke marijuana or he would not accept us as his own people..

Were you smoking marijuana before you married him?

No. He introduced me to smoking. Whenever I refused to smoke, he would get angry and disgrace me in public.

What made you think that the other women were jealous?

Who is Mama Mosun?

She is the one they call Najite or Damiregba Anikulapo-Kuti. She has made herself Fela's only surviving wife in the house, whereas she is not.

How old is your son?

He is 28 years old now.

Where is he now?

He is in Lagos. He used to attend Babcock University.

Who has been funding his education?

My godmother, Mrs. Aduke Bademosi.

Why did it take you so long to make this revelation?

Because I swore on oath to late the Remi Anikulapo-Kuti that I would not spoil anything for her, as long as she was alive. We had an agreement that I could go ahead and spill it after her death. She was a great woman and I respect her a lot.

Aren't you going against your promise to her now?

No. It was her dream to see the relative of Fela and I settle down as man and wife.

She wanted you to marry Fela's relative?

Yes, she wanted me to marry Fela's relative. She used to tell me that Fela's relative was very fond of me. She was even the one that took me to the hospital to save my pregnancy. She was always there for me.

You abandoned your son, didn't you?

I did not abandon him.

So what happened?

After Fela named my child, one of the wives poisoned my baby's food. Unknown to her, I had seen her do it and decided to drop the feeder. Unfortunately, another house mate mistakenly took the feeder and fed her own baby the poison and the baby died. That was how I left Fela's house.

When did you leave Fela's house?

Between 1982 and now, where have you been and what have you been doing?

Well, I have been in England.

Are you back to Nigeria?

I will say fully because I don't want to reveal more secret.

Did you come home when Fela died?

Yes, I was here for his burial. That day was very dark.

It's been more than a decade since Fela died, how do you keep body and soul together?

It's by God's grace.

Do have any plan to remarry?

I will remarry if I see somebody that will love me the way Fela did.

You haven't told us your age

I'm 50 years old.

At the time Fela died, there was this rumour that he died of complications arising from HIV/AIDS infection. What was your reaction when you heard it?

It was a lie.

When you heard it, were you not afraid?

I wasn't afraid because I had faith in what I believe in. If he died of AIDS, how come it did not affect me? Fela had slept with me more than anyone else in that house. I should be the first person to be infected with HIV/AIDS.

Really?

Yes.

Have you gone for HIV/AIDS test?

I did all the tests in England. There is nothing wrong with me. I'm healthy. I'm a nurse.

Round Up: Tonto Dikeh defends new movie

role, P-Square unveil Square-Villa, Annie Macaulay addresses baby mama drama & Ikechukwu talks about his ideal woman

A few things have happened this week on the Naij celeb front. Lets start with Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, except you’ve been living under a rock somewhere you’ve probably seen the trailer for her new movie Dirty Secret, which is creating a lot of controversy as it features explicit sex scenes & a gay kiss…I don’t know if Nigeria is ready for this, knowing how conservative the industry is the movie may likely get banned! Anyways Tonto has gotten a lot of criticism over her role, she took to twitter to address them;

Chick does have a mouth on her…If you wanna see the trailer; youtube “Dirty Secrets African Movie” I couldn’t finish watching it…the man in the silver thong killed it for me…I’m not a prude but I had to hit the stop button…#imeanwharrahell?

There has been a lot of speculation about the cost of P-Square‘s new pad in Lagos. I’ve heard N300 mill, N500 mill. From the pictures though you can tell they spent a whole lot . One half of the duo, Peter says;

Getting a land in Omole Estate (Ikeja, Lagos) alone is N100m. When you look at the house, especially the finishing, it is over $2million. When people speculated that the house was worth N300 million, we had not even finished the interior. What do you think is the cost of a mansion that has a swimming pool, six living rooms, ten master bedrooms, all fully furnished? It’s far more than the speculated N300million

Congrats to them, but did Peter have to say that? See pictures of the house below.

Moving on to Annie Macaulay who this week was interviewed by entertainment reporter and blogger Stella Dimoko Korkus. For those who don’t know Annie is an actress & Tuface Baby Mama #3. Stella asked her about the rumoured altercation with Baby Mama #1 Pero Adeniyi at Tuface’s recent concert in Lagos to which Annie said;

Let me state it here now that nothing of such happened (sic), I have not seen the write up but people have been calling me and those who know the truth know the truth of what happened on that day. I didn’t fight or quarrel with anyone on that day. Yes I was at the same place and at the same time with her but we didnt fight or anything.i didnt even exchange words with the mentioned person.

I love how she referred to Pero as “the mentioned person”, it’s clear she can’t stand the chick…LOL. The interview also touched on her career in Nollywood and why she decided to join the league of 2Baba baby mamas. Read the rest of the interview here.

there is an interesting interview with Rapper Ikechukwu, hetalked about his ideal woman, who he sums up in two words…Sarah Ofili. I guess it’s safe to assume he’ll be wifing her up pretty soon. I also found it compelling that he admitted his dislike for recording commercial music. I mean let’s be honest most artistes loathe “selling out” but I guess it puts food on the table…I don’t think anyone, at least not in Naija music has admitted to it before. Maybe this is the the real reason he left Mo’Hits. A bit of the interview:

TARI: Do you get any job satisfaction when you have to make commercial tracks…

IKECHUKWU: NO!!

TARI: (laughing) Really? Not even the paper?

IKECHUKWU: Zero; but I have formulated a way to get satisfaction, which is in interacting with the crowd and me being this… but even now because of P, where we’re posing for the crowd …I hate that stuff I swear…

TARI: Then why do you it?

IKECHUKWU: Because the Nigerian society dictates that it’s the necessity..
